fashion queen! which nct era has the best fashun in ur opinion?? and if u were a designer which neos would u pick as ur models?
I was so excited to answer this that I wrote several pages and it basically turned into a style analysis for each unit so I sure hope you have some time on your hands to read everything I’ve just written! (I did not reread so sorry for any typing mistake)
NCT is known to be experimental in their music and that’s also the case in their styling so there’s a lot for me to get into even though sometimes it’s a miss. One thing I will say though is that when it comes to the styling in mv/teasers, what’s around the clothes is super important because if you have a very specific styling concept, your set design or graphic design needs to complement that and give the audience more clues on how to read all these elements together (the cherry bomb era is a great example of that with all the added graphic elements and the predominance of the colour pink) and recently I’ve found that the creative team has not really gone further than just putting nct in an outfit in front of a basic background so it makes for a pretty underwhelming result
But let’s move on to my favourite styling eras. I’m going to do this per unit (I’ll finish with NCT U) and define an era by its teaser pictures and the mv (and not go through all the performance looks during the promotion period)
I’m putting this under a read more because it’s reaaally long (I put pictures so that it’s not just one big chunk of text)
NCT 127
Easily the most experimental unit when it comes to fashion, especially in their first years where they would wear mix of sportswear, grunge references, avant-garde fashion and a lot of layers. When it comes to their debut “Firetruck”, I think it fitted the song really well but that it didn’t fit all the members equally (especially the younger ones, for me Taeyong and Taeil pulled it off the best – it’s expected of Taeyong but I also think that Taeil always stand out when they go for edgy/unconventional look, I think it really suits him).
Anyway, just to say that they were off to a very strong start and then I’m just going to kindly ignore the Limitless styling and move on to Cherry Bomb!
One thing nicely done for CB is how when you look at a group picture they’re clearly all following the same concept but they’re not necessarily matching or giving off the same vibes if you take them individually. I love the use of the colour pink which brings a) a great visual impact (you don’t ever see that much pink at once – especially on men) and b) an harmony despite the shapes and styles of their outfits being so vastly different, you’ve got ties, tousled, shirts, little frilled collars, stripes and all-over prints, sportswear and formal wear… (ex: taeyong’s short jacket is reminiscent of something a little luxurious, even maybe historical/noble with the little added embroidery-like details, it reminds me of these boleros jackets worn by toreros that are often red/gold VS doyoung’s overalls is an outfit that has a much more recent origin as it was first worn by factories workers, it’s usually blue or grey and is meant to be practical rather than pleasing to the eye -> here it fits very well with the general setting of the mv in what looks like an empty industrial storage space)
This second look is more of a game on how to deconstruct formal wear (there are less prints and no bold colours, their hair is less messy…) but they don’t just add sportswear like the bomber jacket, you can find rock or more “modern” elements with the leather jackets or the jean jackets. All in black and white so great contrast with the previous looks, although that mix and match concept is still there. My favourite elements are the checkered ones (worn by taeyong, taeil and haechan) as it reminds me of the strategy element of the chess game which fits pretty well with all the weapons and other arms visible in the mv (a bit like a nod to the game battleship)
This one I love that they developed their own print, especially since it’s another graphic element used elsewhere (see their album cover), because it’s a great way to really introduce their identity as a group, through the different visual elements they put out in a comeback, it’s like a logo but as a print. And all the teasers and the mv did a great job at mixing 2D/3D contents so that’s another nice way to be cohesive. It’s not my fave look out of the 3 (especially because I do not approve of that belt-suspenders-bag they gave Johnny, it’s like everything you don’t want to put a dancer in and it’s ugly as well) but I still like the fact that’s it’s another nod to the battle/strategy aspect of this comeback, like they’re on a mission to hit the stage and conquer it
Then fast forward to my other favourite one, Simon Says! (No teaser pictures here because they don’t show anything or they show not enough lol)
First of all THE MASKS
Oh how I wish they could’ve been shown more (imagine teasers with the members wearing them!!! I would’ve loved individual teasers based on each of the masks concepts) Once again, a great to have group concept without making everyone wear the same thing. They’re all super different and full of details. Haechan’s is the only one from what I could who’s mask is actually a mask and not a fully covering hood. The materials and techniques used on these are either evocative of “fragile” things like glass and flowers but theses elements have their own hidden strength. Some others are covered in lace, pearls, fringes or fur…all these things are usually considered to be precious or even luxurious but it covers their faces and their identity and they throw it away in rebellion (and I think it’s also super interesting how Taeyong who takes off his mask first has the least ornamented one)
Then the outfits themselves. Simon Says in an interesting MV because unlike most others they wear one outfit for most of the MV (the second one appears quite late in the mv and is lit and staged in a way that makes it less visible). It’s a mostly grey/white set of outfits which is usually a colour combo for office wear or maybe factory workers, it’s not something that can seem very exciting or edgy. The styling in these outfits reminds me of the works of Japanese designers who came to Paris in the 80’s and kind of shook the whole high fashion system by bringing a different type of shapes, aesthetic and purpose to fashion (Rei Kawakubo, Yohji Yamamoto…). These designers went on to become super successful and inspired another wave of “avant-garde” designers nicknamed “the 6 of Anvers” (Anvers is a city in Belgium), this group includes Martin Margiella, Dries Van Noten…And to me the outfits in Simon Says really fit into this aesthetic. Unconventional fits, various layers, it’s not so much mix and match than a work on contrast between structure and fluidity (Yuta’s half skirt with un-trimed edges, Haechan’s long shirt with the long bow and the fitted jacket, Mark’s top with the various see-through layers of different lengths…).
An other interesting details (which to me calls back to the mask and that tension in the song/concept of letting go/being free of expectations), is the way they all have thick strings tied on their feet/ankles. Not holding them back because their feet aren’t tied together but there’s still this clear restriction of the garment itself, a reminder that there are tied to something and not completely free (also an interesting choice when dressing dancers who would need to have no added weight or discomfort in their outfit to dance but visually something is holding their ankles)
Honorable mentions:
Kick It– they managed to create very memorable outfits while taking inspirations from already well known elements (both for the fighting/training outfits and the bomber jackets). The black and white outfits especially are very original as performance outfits/dancing clothes since the og garment they’re inspired by has already such a strong identity outside of the performing arts and I don’t think I’ve ever seen it be used as a stage outfit? Or concept? It’s a nice exemple of how you can take inspiration for something designed to be useful and to be efficient (in fighting) and turn it into an aesthetic.
Truthfully, martial art training outfit was already an “aesthetic” on its own but they made it a performance costume and now I do feel like it’s one of these looks that everyone will remember (like if there was a “most memorable kpop outfits” list it could easily have kick it’s black/white fits). The rest of the outfits for that concept weren’t as memorable/original to me although I feel like it showed a new approach to the styling of nct 127 as a group since they all had very similar outfits this time (especially when wearing the jackets).
Also, interestingly, that shot of Jaehyun that had everyone go “wow” ? Well it’s impactful because it’s him and he looks like that and it’s shot in a very specific way, but it’s also even more impactful because he’s the only one who gets to wear that kind of outfit in the mv. Everyone else has 3 sets of outfits (black and white, shiny black, red jacket and black pants) but he has 4 and that suit is only used in that shot which makes for a greater impact!
And I feel like Kick It in terms of styling opened a new era for NCT 127 has it kind of broke their usual mix and match/edgy concept. This time they were clearly referencing something already well known (either martial arts, the 90s…), and the members were all matching and they kept on doing that with the military jackets in punch, the other 90s concept in nct 2020…
Touch – for the way the outfits match the sets (in all their individual sets their outfits have a detail in a matching colour), the focus on colours !!! You can see that this whole concept was designed with this colour game/colour progression between the outfits and the set in mind. It’s just very pleasing to the eyes and a great contrast to their usual stuffs (also I wrote my graduation paper on colours so I am really into creative use of colours like this)
OK now moving on to Dream!!
The interesting thing about Dream compared to NCT 127 is that from the beginning although their outfits had to match the song an the concept of the comeback it also had to match their age. Dream’s a group that had to look young when debuting (to the point where they wore outfits that made them look even younger than they were which is rarely done for boy groups) and then they had to transition into adulthood, and all of that had to be made visible. In that aspect, I really like the styling for We Young and Boom (especially when you look at them at the same time).
For We Young, the styling is meant to be reminiscent of school/boy scout uniforms but with a marine vibe. It makes for playful outfits that aren’t too childish but that also aren’t grown up. I prefer the “seaside” outfits as I don’t really like school uniforms as a concept for styling and I think it’s really a choice that suited them and the song so well, it really fitted their energy. It’s playful but it also has a vintage touch to it as these outfits with their stripes and their squared flap at the back date back to the XIXth century (I just found out that it all started with the queen Victoria dressing up her kid in an outfit inspired by the royal navy uniforms for a painting after a cruise ).
Boom on the other side is their first proper “grown-up” concept. We go up was already more grown up but still very “teenager-ish” and although they were mostly teenagers when they did Boom it was clear that this was supposed to be their first entry into “adulthood” as a group at least. And although they did wear a sportswear/casual outfits which is something that isn’t related to age (and I really like the black and white “skeleton” set which already feels more grown-up and more “stylish” than the other casual outfit) , they wore two other “grown-up” elements: suits and all-jean outfits.
And yeah teenagers, and kids wear jeans too but a full jean-on-jean outfit is more of a “grown-up” fashion choice and it makes them look like young men rather than boys. As for the suits, I just really love when stylists play with the codes of that garment (length of the jacket, tightness of the pants, the way the shirt is tucked in…).
Notice how Renjun has a really short jacket, Chenle’s pants are wide, Jeno has a tail…Once again, a really interesting aspect of Kpop is the variations of the same concept based on the members. In the mv, there is a tension between their more grown up selves (the one in suits, the one with a craft/a path) and their young selves (the one running around in the field, the one laying down in the flowers and eating a cake). And there is also in these outfits and the contrast between them this tension, this contrast…which path should they go? The jeans are the more laide back, innocent outfits, whereas the suits come with responsibilities and status (and you’ll notice that in the scene where jisung is left alone to blow his candle it’s when he’s wearing jeans not when he’s in the suits).
Now on to WayV!!
WayV are different from the two in the sense than when they debuted they couldn’t have an “age” concept or an edgy concept because 127 and dream had already taken those and I feel like for that reason they’re still looking for what makes them stand out visually from the others (and in my opinion it’s not in whatever they were wearing for turn back time!). WayV’s concept is space and time travel, it’s building a new life, a new worl, going beyond anything! In my mind, they’re either supposed to feel a bit “otherworldly” (either spectacular or literally like they’re from another world/another universe, a little bit futuristic maybe?) or to look like explorers/travellers (they have a lot of travel/transportation “gears” references in their outfits). Their MVs also have a very different production than the other nct mvs (the scale and the way it’s filmed, the sets…it’s a different approach and it’s usually much more “grand” for their title tracks). The great thing about WayvV styling is usually that they match the outfits well with the world that the mv is set in (like in Moonwalk for example you get a sense of the world they’re in and the fact that it’s not ours or at least not as we know it now through the way they dress – you can’t really say oh it’s inspired by this era or by this or that because -at least- to me it immediately gives me a vibe of something that could be worn in a sci-fi movie, almost like a costume) or that they allude to travel in their styling.
When they debuted with Regular they went for a very sleek and high fashion look which worked really well for them! Even their more “casual” looks were a bit striking and I think that’s very “wayv-like” to me.
Same goes for Take Off where they mix the individual styles (and I don’t like ten’s leopard fur sleeveless jacket at all) and the group concepts – the “flying” outfits and the “racing” outfits (that last one is my favourite! I love the silhouette it creates with the tight pants and the larger tops with an emphasis on the waist).
There’s something a bit extra to WayV - which is why some of their outfits remind me of costumes more than fashion while at the same time they’re the most “high fashion” unit– like the “flying” outfit in Take Off are recognizable as “flying gear” but you can’t really tell what they’re flying, it feels once again like something that they could wear in like star wars or a similar kind of story.
Imagine a movie about 7 men on another planet trying to come together to overcome the dark forces or whatever’s bad on their planet in a futuristic society with a mix of “traditional” and “trendy” outfits? That’s WayV. The movie the 5th Sense? That’s WayV but on steroids. They’re also the only group with actual characters in their mvs, they’re all supposed to have a backstory or an individual setting and find a way to get together in their mvs.
Anyway all that to say that it’s hard for me to pick an era for them because they’ve only had a few and they still feel like they’re looking to solidify their concept, and since moonwalk and turn back time really set the styling in different worlds than ours, you have to look at how they fit in that world rather than ours and I think Moonwalk does it best since it’s the most cohesive one visually. But then I think Regular had the best individual styling!
Okay this is super long but we’re finally getting to NCT U!!!!
Number one favourite:
The Year Party outfits!!!! I’ve already talked about this but I love when they say we’ll put them in suits and then since they have to make a different one for each of them they cut bits an dpieces of the suits here and there, play with lengths. It’s not a revolutionary concept but in terms of searching for a shape, searching for variations of an already so famous, so well-known garment (everyone has seen a suit, and so many designers have already deconstructed it and then put it back together and so on) it’s so nice, it’s almost like a full collection given how many members there are and it’s just a good tailoring work.It almost feel like an exercise of how many variations of an outfit can you think of? And it looks fun to do! It’s all about the details and the way the layers are set together.
The accessories add to the “formal attire” aspect of it. It almost has a ceremonial look to it. A bit of royalty with the futuristic vibe usually associated with WayV. The dark blue suits were pretty classic, the most interesting details (for me at least) were on the light blue ones. Especially since it’s a rare colour to find in formal wear or in ceremonial wear. In general, I feel like it’s a pretty rare colour in fashion outside of like shirts and baby clothes? I think it was a great styling choice for a content like the year party although I do wish they (either NCT or WayV who’ve touched upon this kind of outfit a bit already) would do a full comeback with this kind of styling (like the lighter version of the black and green outfits in SuperM’s One). It’s not revolutionary but it was something new for NCT and I really hope they use that elegant/futuristic concept once again.
Also in these outfits, the jewelry is super important and adds to the “grand” aspect of these outfits. The concept is that these aren’t ordinary outfits for ordinary men, we’re witnessing something “special” and so they aren’t wearing their usual jewels either (of course the big chains are still there but differently look at that necklace jaehyun is wearing)
Honorable mention:
Boss & Baby Don’t Stop (they’re different but they go together in my mind lol). Look at them in their uniforms! And also they had doyoung wearing these sunglasses

As for who would I chose as my models…it really depends on what I’d make them wear tbh for menswear the things I’d like to design would either be something like formal wear or knitwear – I’d pick Lucas, Taeyong and Doyoung (I think they’re the most model-like members and could pull off pretty much anything even my non-edgy concept because I can’t do that lol and they pose very well) and then depending on the concept I’d pick between Winwin, Jaehyun, Kun, Jungwoo, Taeil, Haechan and Shotaro (the way I struggled to remember all the members at once…there are too many really)

Phylax Avengers x oc Prologue
Phylax: Ancient Greek. Watcher, protector, sentinel, guardian.
Bennett Lancaster grew up in her small hometown with her head full of stories of heroes, from the latest action flick to the oldest of Greek myths. Going into private security and moving away from her small hometown, she knew would bring her adventures. She never imagined that it would put her in the middle of the next generation of heroes. Mrs. Bethany Lancaster watched her four older children as they ran out of the house. Nora would watch the three little ones and it would give her some peace and quiet as long as the baby stayed asleep. Thirty solid minutes with no disasters was a small miracle. It gave her time to catch up on housework, which she had lacked since baby number five, Zach, arrived. She checked on the three month old before turning back to the chores at hand.
She had the most recent pile of laundry folded and stacked the only thing left was matching the socks. That was when she heard the scream.
“Momma!” Beth looked up to see her 6 year old daughter, Bennett racing towards the house. Her face red and there were obvious tear tracks. Panic. That was what was in her daughter’s face. She ran to the yard meeting her half way. The girl was crying so hard that understanding her words was near impossible. “Fitzy, Fitzy. Momma...Fitzy.” Beth scooped the crying girl in her arms and headed farther into the open fields. “Nora, Leo,” she called for her two oldest children.
Bennett buried her head in her mother’s shoulder. “Fitzy.”
Bethany’s heart raced as she ran towards the distant call returned by her 15-year-old daughter. “Momma. Help it’s Fitz.”
The sight that met Bethany Lancaster’s eyes was one that every mother fears. A small body lay in the creek, blood soaked through his short blonde hair. His face pale and lips blue. Bethany handed the crying Bennett to Nora and knelt by the boy. “What happened?” She felt for a pulse and then listened for a breath but found neither.
“I don’t know. We were playing in the field. Fitz wanted a turn with the kite but Leo had it. The next thing I remember we were here and Fitz was like this.” The older girl took deep breaths trying to calm herself to take care of her sister.
Bethany began the process of CPR knowing it was no use. She sent Leo to the house to call 911. Blood slid down the creek bed as she tried to pump life back into her young son.
“Fitzy!” Bennett cried, kicking Nora sharply in the leg so the older girl would drop her. As soon as she hit the ground the girl scrambled to her twin brother. “Fitzy, wake up,” her tears dripped to his cheeks, “Fitzy!”
When the ambulance arrived it was too late. Bennett cried in her mother’s arms pleading for her brother to get up. Nora had returned to the house shortly after Leo and was caring for Zachary.
Bennett’s mother clung tightly to the girl. Small bloody handprints appeared on the fabric of her shirt as the girl fought to reach her brother as the coroner zipped the body bag. Fitz’s face disappearing from their view. The small girl went weak in her mother’s arms. Sobs wracked her body as she cried. Her brother’s name came out as only a whimper. Bethany Lancaster allowed her first tear then holding her daughter as her son was taken away.
Frost coated the ground of the small park closest to Stark tower. Normally Bennett would take her bike out of town to a small nature trail nearby, today there wasn’t time. The steady pounding of her sneakers hitting the pavement was Bennett's sole focus. After a nightmare an early morning run was soothing. The cold morning air brushed against her face, turning her cheeks and nose rosy. Her breath froze in the air in front of her. 18 years had passed since that day and she still felt the loss. If she managed to outrun her memories during the light of day, they always caught back up to her in her sleep.
Back at Stark Tower again Bennett made her way to the gym. She pushed her short hair back out of her face, and made her way to the heavy bag. The bag buckled under the weight of her first few punches. The rough leather grated against her knuckles as she tried to bleed out the last of her nightmare.
For a year and a half Bennett had held a job in security at Stark Industries, as Tony Stark’s personal bodyguard. She had been with Pepper through every second of the incident in Afghanistan. She had helped Tony weather the introduction of Ironman and subsequent fall out.
Tony was the first big job Bennett had in her field of choice. She had applied for numerous other positions at companies around the city but was passed over because she was too young or inexperienced. Today marked her 24th birthday.
She was qualified for the job. Top of her class at the academy, marksmanship was in the top 5%, hand to hand combat top 3%, surveillance and observation top 7%. The problem came in because she didn’t look 24. She didn’t even look 20 most days. On a really good day the blonde could pass for 21 but most days about 16 or 17. Resembling a teenager was not exactly intimidating. The clothes Pepper bought, and Tony paid for, helped. Pepper insisted though, that this was an asset. It made it easier for her to fade into the background. Unassuming and nonthreatening. So when she selected Bennett’s work attire, it was professional but always carried a young, carefree air to it. Usually in the form of colored Converse, lightly distressed jeans, or a graphic tee under her button down or jacket.
Tabloids had been fun the first couple months after she was noticed. According to those reporters Bennett was Tony Stark's love child from his wild youth. The papers had new stories released every week. "Birth mothers" were lining up to back their stories. There were a few similarities between Bennett and Tony. Skin tone, brown eyes, although his were a darker brown than hers, and a few other overlapping "roguish features", to quote Tony. But past that nothing. The women claiming to be her mother, ranged from hispanic to Irish, from waitresses to swimsuit models. Each story was more ridiculous than the last. Simple math would disprove every one of the women, they were all too young. As would Bennett’s nearly platinum blonde hair. Seriously not one paper thought to find a blonde.
Quick punch combos rocked the bag on it's chains. The bag caved around her heel as she sunk a kick in. The bag was inviting. Granting a release. The anger and fear. The nightmares, the memories. A release for all of it. Bennett poured them all into the bag where they would stay buried in the sand contained in the canvas. She worked the bag over and over, punch after punch, blow after blow. The combinations becoming more deadly as she worked.
Tony entered the room watching the girl work and the bag rocked on it’s chains. He watched not wanting to interrupt her. Her fist slammed hard into the bag and he winced. She seemed to deflate holding on to the bag. Letting out an exhausted breath she whispered, "Happy birthday, Fitz"
He gave her another moment heart breaking slightly at the sight. Opening the door and shutting it again Tony approached her as if he had just gotten there. "As my bodyguard, are you not supposed to be aware of your surroundings? I mean if I can sneak in on you anyone can." He crossed the room towards her. "You gonna talk about it this time?"
"I am supposed to be aware of threats, I would hardly classify you as a threat," she walked over taking the bottle from his hand for a drink. The liquid had barely touched her tongue when she spit it out, gagging. "What on earth are you drinking?" She opened the bottle giving the substance a tentative sniff, it was thick and green.
"It's, uh, protein shake from one of those MMA magazines you get."
"Why is it green?" The blonde sniffed it again, wrinkling her nose at the smell.
“Kelp?” Tony took a moment to answer.
“Your answer to that shouldn’t be a question,” she quipped, handing the bottle back and turned to get water from the small fridge.
Tony nodded towards her hand, “you’re bleeding.”
She looked down examining the knuckles. Sure enough the skin was broken on the first two knuckles of each hand and the rest were smeared with blood. “It’s probably just a little scratch.”
He gave her a disbelieving look. “You never even let me look at the bag without wrapping my hands.”
“It’s fine, Boss. It looks worse than it is,” she shrugged it off. “Go grab your mouthpiece and meet me on the mats.” Bennett headed into the locker room to grab her mouthpiece and take care of her hands. She knew better, but the rough material of the bag had felt good. Pain always brought relief. Physical pain was manageable.
Turning the water on she waited the few seconds it would take for it to heat. She ran her hands under the water scrubbing them clean. The water diluted the blood. Bennett squeezed her eyes shut as her nightmare rushed back. The onslaught of images making her slightly nauseous. Wiping her hands dry the skin looked new. It had knit itself back perfectly. That’s why it had escaped her notice, something small like that was less bothersome than a mosquito bite. There is no telling how many times the skin had broken for them to bleed that much. In the most extreme case so far her healing factor was effective enough to heal 12 gunshot wounds simultaneously. So a busted knuckle from the heavy bag was something she wasn’t worried about.
Wrapping her knuckles she returned to the gym, mouthpiece in hand. Many things are socially acceptable now. Many things the government has legalized. They tolerated Ironman. There were rumors of Captain America being found. Talk of other survivors of genetic experiments. Negotiations for the rights of Inhumans. One thing that had not been changed, that had not been legalized, had not been repealed. The Mutant Registration Act.
Mutation was still seen as an abomination, an affront to nature. Mutants were closely monitored if they managed not to be thrown in jail. To date only three mutants from the registration had not been incarcerated for any length of time, and only because their mutations were purely cosmetic. Horns and tails posed no real threat to humanity's safety. It would be safe to say Tony didn't know about her abilities. No one knew, not even her parents. She intended to keep it that way. She pulled on her fingerless gloves and headed back into the gym.
Ground fighting was the order of the day. After reviewing some of the pins and chokes they had worked on they began to grapple.
Round 1: 2 minutes, submission, guillotine, Bennett.
Round 2: 45 seconds, submission, arm bar, Bennett
Round 3: 3 minutes, submission, Darce choke, Bennett.
It continued for seven rounds. Some of the rounds could have been shorter but Bennett liked to play a bit. The third round for instance had taken so much time because Bennett wanted to win with the Darce choke. Other times she just drug the fight out to make Tony work harder. Tony got close a few times. After each round the blonde showed him how to lock in the choke to prevent escape.
Training with Tony was a good warm up for the day and Bennett truly loved teaching him. He didn't really need it. He had the suit. Hand to hand combat was kinda obsolete against that.
"Okay," he coughed, tapping the mat to signal Bennett to let go. "I'm done. Besides we have a full day." He stretched to work out the kinks in his spine from the fights.
Bennett pulled up the schedule on her phone, the Stark tech projecting the application off the screen for her. "We have 30 minutes to clean up, eat, and get to the board meeting."
He nodded drinking from the bottle of green goo. "Thanks, kid. Next time I am going to win one." She chuckled, pulling her gloves off before heading back upstairs to change.
The meeting seemed to drag on and on. No matter how many of these things she sat through Bennett never could find it in herself to follow along. The phone buzzed in her pocket. A new text.
Tony: kid, watch this.
A few seconds passed and one of the board members grew noticeably irritated before he swatted the air. Upon closer inspection Bennett could see a small black object darting around the man’s head. Bennett would have simply assumed it to be a fly except for the small red light blinking from it. Almost indiscernible.
Tony flicked his fingers across his phone and the small object darted at the man again. It was a drone. The man grew more distracted by the second. Bennett and Tony bit back their laughter.
“Tony,” Pepper snapped, “do you have anything to contribute?”
“Uh,...no I think you covered it rather eloquently,” he tapped his screen once more before shoving the phone back in his pocket. Bennett watched the drone zip away probably to some charging dock across the building.
“If no one has any new business I think we can adjourn,” Pepper dismissed the board members with a smile. As the last man stepped out she turned a glare toward the two. Focusing on Tony she spoke “do you think this is a game, I am trying to run a company here, your company. You could at least pretend to care.”
Pepper dragged Bennett and Tony upstairs. If Tony kept this up he would run the company into the ground. He needed to take his responsibilities seriously. Happy met them in the kitchen where lunch was being served. JARVIS with the help of a bot or two had prepared a salad with grilled chicken.
Bennett inwardly groaned kelp shakes and now salad. Tony was on a health kick, which meant it was time to stock up on junk food.
Pepper excused herself when she received a call from one of the overseas investors during lunch leaving Tony, Bennett, and Happy alone for a moment. "Tonight's the night, right? Are you sure you wanna do this kid?" Tony leaned back in his seat trying to make his voice sound casual.
Bennett’s face lit in a smile. "I think so. Emily and I have been together for two years. Our lives fit together seamlessly. We have talked out our plans for the future together. Almost never fight." She chuckled lightly. "Everyone says that proposing is nerve wracking. But I thought it all through and planned it out. Honestly I'm not nervous at all. We fit too well together. She's gonna say yes." Bennett took the small box from her pocket examining the ring.
Tony held out his hand and she passed the box over. Tony nodded his approval before handing the ring to Happy.
"Not a bad choice, kid. You want me to drive you tonight. I could get the limo."
Bennett tucked the ring back in her pocket. "No I got it. Gonna take one of Tony’s cars and pick her up, take her to her favorite restaurant. That I can pass off as birthday privileges. Limo would be a bit over the top. Might tip her off."
"Public proposal? At the restaurant? Pretty gutsy." Tony quipped.
"No, she wouldn't want that kind of attention" Bennett shook her head, "a walk in the park after, to a spot I know she loves. I'll ask her there." Bennett could see it all in her mind from the bench by the lake to the smile on Emily’s face. Tonight was going to change everything. Tonight would be the start of a new life, a better life.
Happy's phone buzzed. "Sorry, Pepper needs me to pick up someone at the airport. If I don't make it back in time, good luck, kid." He smiled before running out the door.
"Benn are you really sure about this? Not a doubt in your mind that Emily is the one?" Tony wore a serious expression. "You're young. Not many people find their soulmate at 24."
“I didn’t,” Bennett smirked, ”we met when I was 22."
Tony's expression grew more serious if possible."Benn. This is a big decision. I don't want to see you heartbroken if things don't work down the road. Just make sure you have thought this through. Does Emily really make you happy?"
The blonde gave his words careful consideration before replying. "I think so. I mean we've had rocky places sure. Everyone does, but I think she makes me happy."
Tony locked his gaze with hers "marriage is a lifetime thing."
"Who are you and what have you done with Tony?" He didn't even smirk at the attempted joke. Bennett let out a deep sigh "I know it's a lifetime thing. I am prepared to sacrifice a lifetime if she needs me to.” She let the silence hang for a few seconds before allowing a smirk to slide in place, “Pepper is gone for the day and Happy is out so...Smash bros showdown." Tony didn't move immediately but the corner of his lips turned up. " Come on, Boss. It will get my mind off things."
He gave a sigh before a genuine smile spread across his features. "Alright, best of 75. If I win I get your bike for a week if you win you can use my suit."
"No safety mode?" Bennett cocked one brow in question.
"Weapons hot." He held out his hand which she in turn took shaking it.
"Deal."
Several hours later Pepper walked into the common area to Tony's shouts of victory and Bennett’s groans of defeat. "The bike is mine for the week." He crowed.
"Yeah, yeah," She scowled at the tv screen “you can use the Harley or the Honda this week.”
“No I get the Ducati,” he insisted.
“The original deal said you get my bike for a week not which one. You should be more specific next time, I have seven.” She smirked.
"Well, well." They both jumped at the new voice spinning to see Pepper standing in the doorway. "I see you two got a lot done today."
"It was bonding time, really." Tony explained.
Bennett shot a cheeky grin towards the older woman shrugging, "while the cat's away…"
"Obviously." A soft smile played on her lips even as she tried to hide it. "Bennett, don't you have to be somewhere in an hour?"
She tapped the screen on her phone, her Ducati lit up in the background as she checked the time. "Crap. Yeah thanks Pep." Jumping up from the couch the girl pressed a kiss to Pepper’s cheek before heading to the doorway.
"Are you both coming back tonight? I have a few things saved for the occasion. Wanted to celebrate a little with you, both of you.” Tony explained.
“More than likely. But Tony: no party! If you guys want to say “hi” and stuff fine, but no extras. No party.” Bennett set the rules for Tony’s “celebration”.
"Alright. Be safe and have fun tonight" Tony wrapped her in a tight hug. "Good luck, kid."
“Thanks, boss." Pepper pulled the girl in for one more hug as she rushed to her room.
Bennett pulled up to Emily’s apartment at 6:30 sharp. Knocking at the door she rocked back on her heels as she waited for Emily to answer, a bouquet of roses in hand.
“Bennett!” Emily opened the door with a broad smile. She leaned forward pulling the blonde into a kiss. “Those for me?” She asked, pulling away for a second.
“Who else would they be for?” Bennett pecked her lips again.
She took the roses, “I’ll just put these in water right quick,” she slipped inside pushing the door closed before Benn could follow. Seconds later she came back out, “ready to go?” Her smile was bright as she took Bennett’s hand, heading to the car.
Bennett opened her door for her, before climbing in the driver's seat. They drove and talked, laughing occasionally. The blonde couldn’t keep the smile off her face.
The night started at an art gallery. Emily led Bennett through the gallery pointing out her favorite pieces. They talked over the exhibits as they went. Emily gushed over a large metal sculpture in the middle of the museum. She rattled on talking about lines and angles to convey the artist’s meaning. Benn nodded along and agreed when she was asked what she thought. Her only real thought about the piece though was the welds were crap.
Bennett lagged a bit behind as they came across an exhibit of statues from Greece. Athena, Artemis, and Apollo were displayed alongside sculptures of gorgons, minotaurs, and chimaeras. Emily tugged her along to finish up the last few exhibits.
When they pulled up to the restaurant Bennett quickly hopped out of the car, rushing around the front of the car to open Emily’s door. Bennett held out a hand and Emily took it. Her hand resting in the blonde’s made Benn feel as if Emily trusted her with her whole world. It was a responsibility the young bodyguard was happy to take on.
“This really isn’t necessary, Bennie,” she tucked her hand around Bennett’s arm, “but thank you.”
Dinner was slightly more expensive than she had originally planned but for tonight it would be worth it. Next stop was the nature park. They walked through the park under the stars hand in hand. The little box bounced in her pocket as they neared the spot.
Bennett took in the night sky. North star was straight ahead. Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. A story of jealousy. Zeus’ wife Hera was jealous of Callisto after Zeus fell in love with her. So Hera changed her into a bear. Callisto was hunted for years. Zeus and Callisto had a son named Arcas. When he grew Arcas became a great hunter, he was moments away from unknowingly killing his mother but Zeus interfered. Sending them into the sky creating the two constellations.
“Bennie,” Emily pulled her from her thoughts. “Bennie babe, what is it about them that you find so fascinating?” She gestured towards the heavens.
“Everything. The stories, history, science…”
Smiling Emily pulled her girlfriend around to face her. She beamed at the blonde, “you always have your head in the clouds, aren’t there more interesting things down here on the ground.” She pulled Bennett in close for a kiss, wrapping her arms around her neck deepening the kiss.
Bennett pulled away after a moment, leading Emily further into the park.
Bennett steeled herself. “Em, I wanted to talk to you about something.”
“Of course. I wanted to talk to you about something too,” she followed happily.
“You go ahead,” Bennett said, “what did you want to talk about?”
“No, no, go ahead, it can wait,” she threaded her fingers through Bennett’s.
“Well,” they came to the spot by the edge of the lake. Taking a deep breath Bennett began her speech “Emily, we have been together for two years now. You helped me adapt to New York, out of the security of my college campus. New York is quite a bit bigger than I am used to,” a grin spread across Bennett’s face, one side slightly higher than the other. Lopsided.
Emily placed her hand on Bennett’s cheek leveling out her smile “Yeah, your little “no where” Texas is a bit tiny. Population of what, 23?”
“That wasn’t the population, that was the size of my graduating class,” Bennett gave her an indignant look. “Give me some credit.” Emily laughed. “I couldn’t have made it this far without you, and I don’t want to spend any of my future without you by my side. So Emily, will you marry me?” Bennett pulled the ring from her pocket and waited for her answer.
Bennett parked the car in the garage, killing the engine. She walked in the living area to see Tony, Pepper, and Happy all waiting. Champagne on ice. She let out a long sigh, there was no way to avoid them.
Tony was grinning from ear to ear when she entered, “hey kid, how did it go?” He looked over her shoulder. “Where’s Emily?”
The girl plastered a smile on her face. “I...not as planned.” she ran her hand through her hair, brushing her bangs behind her ear only for them to fall back in her face, too short to stay tucked.
“What do you mean?” Pepper was concerned.
“Turns out we...don’t want exactly the same things. Her future and mine... there’s this other girl, Madison. Emily has been with her for most of our relationship.” They were all dumb struck. She pulled the box from her pocket, setting it on the coffee table in front of the couch. “Guess I will have to figure out the return policy for that in the morning.” She gave the others a half hearted smile. “I think I am going to bed. Good night.” Apparently Tony was right, no one finds their soulmate at 24.
AN: won’t leave many of these. First I don’t own Marvel or their characters just Benn and her story.
Second give me any feedback or ideas you have on this story. Any critic is welcome. It is a slowburn as far as the romance aspect goes but it will get there and there is plenty of other stuff in the meantime.

Physical Differences Between My RKs
Connor: Soft boy. Puppy eyed cinnamon roll. Still retains his brown hair/brown eyed combo. He likes business formal clothes for being out and about, such as vests and ties and crisp shirts. On lazier days, he can wear sweaters and hoodies with jeans. Has way more freckles than normal after deviating because he likes them. Still has his LED.
Cassius: Big Boi. Gentle giant. He’s taller and more muscled than Connor, with a square jaw and heavier brows. Dark brown hair and light blue-grey eyes, absolutely no freckles to speak of. Still has his LED. Cassius prefers to look nice, but with darker colors; he primarily wears black turtlenecked shirts, varying between sweaters and button downs, and a white jacket. On lazier days...he still wears the same things.
Corwin: Grunge boy. Gremlin. Despises that he looks like Connor, so he’s changed his hair to be pure black, longer and curly, and has switched his eyes with a bright green pair compatible with his model. He’s ripped his LED out in an effort to blend in while in self imposed exile. Normally wears grunge aesthetic attire, think 90′s grunge; flannels and ripped jeans, heavy boots, beanies and leather jackets. He only dresses up if he has no other choice.
Caden: Big Hoe Energy. His hair is a bright white blond, with bright pink streaks, and he’s manipulated the coding to change the color of his eyes from brown to pink as well. When not working at the Eden Club, he prefers to wear form fitting clothes with a sort of Soft E-Boy aesthetic, lots of pinks and purples; crop tops are his favorite, with the crop top hoodie being his most favored possession. He’s also added a little black heart tattoo underneath his eyes. Caden doesn’t have his LED, after having removed it during the revolution.
Connie: Is basically the feminine version of Connor. Big “I am babey” vibes; small and a bit curvy, with an open heart shaped face, big brown eyes and long wavy brown hair. No freckles to speak of. She likes skirts and sweaters the most, with tshirts being a second favorite, and she flips for sneakers with knee high socks. Lots and lots of bright colors. She still has her LED.

actually - what would -all- ur characters wear to a fancy formal event? :3c
Part of me’s caught between finding specific reference and images for every single character but the other par tof me’s aware of the fact I have like 30 of these suckers and I am not strong enough
So, Sorry buddy but I’m gonna cram a very short and simplified list under here!
Albuinn - typically prefers cream or white suits with blue - will weave a small flower and let’s lil kids dance on his shoes - nothing to draw attention but want’s to look nice
Bairnwen - pinwheels between a dress and a suit - eventually combines the two into a waistcoat and a dress combo. Still occasionally prefers a full suit. Reds, browns and fiery colours - unintentionally upstages most of the people. 100% Wearing combat boots
Fionhuine - armoured suit - sort of similar to Taihneford’s but not as extravagant due to the fact she’s with the Pact and not a dragon/god/lichslayer. Looks stunning in golds and wine reds.
Mirfirth - He’s not happy to be here - wears a blue suit pants and waistcoat - looks very dapper. (I actually have an outfit sorta like this I won’t lie)
Laoirech - A very simple suit that’s never neat, no matter how much he tucks his shirt in or fits everything five minutes later it’s free and looking like he ran through a bush. Will have flakes of bloodstone on them but can’t find the source? Actually looks handsome otherwise
Ikaros - Waistcoat and suit (it’s all I know) - will wear it open and pretends to pose ‘sexy’ for his warband to laugh at. Is delighted by how clicky the shoes are and spends a good half hour strutting like he’s a fashion model
Nerrdia Hollowsong - Same as Taihneford cuz Commander - wants it off and will slowly be trying to shake pieces off throughout the night. Save her
Hadrian Wallsend - A formal suit - nothing flash and darker colours make it easier to blend in. Just wants things to be relaxed
Mallus Blightsmoke - surprise surprise we got ANOTHER formal suit - he’s not got a waistcoat though and he’s just here to relax. Unless he’s working in which case it’s a dazzling suit shirt, pants and waistcoat and he’s groomed to perfection
Khiosk - Has one suit for work and for formal events - it’s more waistcoats and some sleeker jeans. Ends the night wearing more bruises and drinks than anyone
Loefell - Angel child likes to wear suits, but will occasionally rock a big dress for songs - due to the fact his work allows for him to be mobile and stationary depending on the job while looking good he’s used to this.
Ainlyne - Sleek floor length gowns with splits up the leg are her favourite, but she looks killer in a suit too - like the rest of the Troupe - it varies depending upon if she’s a guest or working at the event
Giolladhe - GOLD SUIT - say goodbye to your eyesight folks a literal star walked into the room. Will go full Met Gala if given the opportunity
Aeristd - Suit pants, suspenders and a white shirt - somewhat uncomfortable with the whole thing and spends the entire time scowling. Will wear a leather jacket though

Want to be sustainable & fashionable? Dress in black (or navy, or even white, or olive green, orange, too, why not?). Easy. Although we say “green fashion”, colours are related to season and the moment. Today is all about salmon and mustard, tomorrow it will be flaming hot whatever, and you’ll dump that mustard jersey. Stick to black, it will be forever cool and en vogue, it’s easier to keep it clean than other colours (think about white!), it makes you look good, serious, smart (and thinner).

Choosing to wear a uniform eliminates options, which reduces the number of items needed to put outfits together.
One less decision
Additionally, the simplicity removes a decision from my morning. And while I’m not making hundreds of critical decisions every day, I do want to cut down on decision fatigue as much as possible to leave that mental space available for the decisions I actually care about.
Keep it simple
The entire goal of a uniform is to simplify your wardrobe, not add a bunch of extra work to it. I should be looking at what I already wear most of the time, and putting my uniform together from there.
Keep It Flexible
Since I won’t be traveling with a full closet, my uniform needs to be appropriate for any situation I find myself in. Can I wear it to a fancy steak dinner at an upscale restaurant? A dive bar? A business meeting?
When you start putting together your uniform, consider three factors:
What do I actually feel comfortable wearing?
What type(s) of weather should I be expecting?
What kind(s) of events, venues, and situations will I find myself in?’

“Consistency of all kinds is what builds brands,” Schawbel says. “People who wear the same thing, have a catch phrase or two, and associate with the same people are more memorable than those who don't. It says this is who I am and this is what I enjoy. I think it's a rather positive thing that helps people identify with them and allows them to just be themselves.”’

Dystopian Fashion is lit
According to Hollywood, TV series and Netflix, zombies are coming for us - wearing stiletto shoes won’t save you, techwear will.
From Stone Island to Y-3, via Rick Owens, many brands offer a stylish yet sporty-esque approach to fashion. Some of them are blatantly into uniforms, ant the related concepts.

“I want to do things that help me live in the city. You go to meetings and you need a bag that can hold a charger for your phone, headphones, a notebook et cetera. I’m not saying you need to have a hundred pockets as that’s fictional function, but it needs to be really comfortable and interesting.”
“It’s all about the cut and finishing — I hate decoration,” says Kostadinov, whose own uniform consists of Yohji Yamamoto workwear. “There’s nothing worse than finding a pair of trousers that are cut great but covered in straps and buttons that don’t do anything.”

“I remember at school when you had a non-uniform day, the poorer kids would feel really self-conscious because they’d have to wear normal clothes all of a sudden, compared to the rich kids who had flashy Nike trainers. I remember my mom saying it gets rid of that idea of what you have or how much money you have and it makes you as one. It can be seen as a negative thing because it’s anti-expression, maybe, but then it can be seen as a protective thing emotionally, as well.”
From Grailed: ‘Given his upbringing and personal attraction to the idea of a “uniform,” it’s no surprise that workwear and uniforms have become another recurring theme in his collections. This includes a literal take on the idea of “uniforms,” like Fall/Winter 2016’s references to hazmat suits, and Fall/Winter 2017’s riffs on uniforms of various seafaring folk. Working outside of the typical fashion cycle, Green even designed many of the military uniforms used in the filming of Alien: Covenant. There’s another, albeit more abstract sense of “uniforms” that flows throughout his collections. It’s a uniformity of humanistic bent—one that’s concerned with the democratic ideas associated with work and a shared human experience. The specifics often shift from collection to collection, while retaining a running theme. According to Green, Spring/Summer 2017 was “initially based around the Scout scarf...That symbolism of ‘belonging’ to something”.
Think back to Spring/Summer 2015 too, with its barefoot models and pure, effortless designs, takes on not-so-subtle religious undertones. Pause on that for a moment: religious officials wear codified uniforms too. Ah another head canon with IronWidow for me is that Tony really likes fashion and has good fashion sense. He's embarrassed about it soemtimes, and often he doesn't have the courage to wear the outfits he wants (nothing ridiculous, just really nice casual combos like leather jackets, combat boots, nice cardigans, rolled up sleeves, skinny jeans etc), because everyone expects him to just wear t-shirts like a normal dude™. But she realizes his love for fashion and planning outfits and encourages it
Yes. Yes! YES!!! I’m absolutely down for fashionable and fashion-interested Tony! And you’re right, he’s definitely embarrassed about it. Always makes sure to make lots of jokes and sexual innuendos about the models when he’s invited to a fashion show, even though he’s more interested in the ‘fashion’ part than anything else. (Howard’s A+ parenting and tirades on what Stark men do and don’t do did not help in that regard.)
Once Natasha finds out about his interest (and I’m not sure how she does that exactly. Maybe it’s because at some point during their teamwork she learns to tell the difference between when he makes a joke and when he makes the truth sound like a joke. Or maybe Tony admits his ‘silly’ interest to her in a drunken stupor at one point. After Pepperony break up perhaps?) and she’ll be damned if he doesn’t accompany her to every event from then on. Because what few people know about Natasha is she genuinely loves to dress up, loves to slip into different roles, loves to let her clothes speak for her, and really, what else is fashion for?
She probably starts by using Tony has her fashion advisor. She’s subtle about it, a “What do you think about this skirt?” here, a “Maybe I should combine this with those blue high heels from the other night?” there. Not too much at once, and she never singles him out specifically when their other team members are around. But she makes it a point to listen to his advice, even if it takes him a couple of weeks to notice.
Natasha also starts switching channels to fashion-centric shows when they’re alone, which is guaranteed to lead to hilarious comments from Tony that he gives more and more freely as time goes by and she doesn’t mock his opinions. It’s around that time that she ‘bullies’ (because nobody gets Tony Stark to do what he doesn’t want, the Ten Rings, Stane and occasionally Fury are all proof of that) Tony into accompanying her to a show she’s been invited to. Something low-key as a starting point.
(What Natasha underestimates is Tony’s love for fashion, once he realises nobody from the team is looking down on him for it, and her own talent for the long cons. Because soon the rest of the team pick up on her tendency to ask for Tony’s opinion and start copying her, probably even unconsciously in the beginning, which also helps Tony’s self-confidence. And suddenly he finds himself the unofficial fashion advisor of the Avengers… huh.)

Every decade, certain styles emerge as the most fashionable of the day. The ’50s can be characterized by Bobby socks and poodle skirts; in the ’80s oversized blazers and big hair were in fashion. Several dominant styles define the era of the late ’60s and early ’70s, each simultaneously creating and reflecting a wave of change in the culture.
Grab your miniskirt and love beads and take a retro walk down memory lane.
Hippie
Perhaps the most iconic look associated with the ’60s and ’70s is that of the hippies. The hippie lifestyle was characterized by rebellion against authority, rejection of wealth and opposition to war in favor of peace, drugs and free love. Clothing was bright and colorful, and mixing patterns was in vogue. Tie-dye clothing is closely associated with the counterculture, as were bellbottom jeans—the wider, the better.
Psychedelic patterns became prevalent in the late ’60s. The Beatles’ Sergeant Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band captured the beginning of what’s known as the ‘Summer of Love.’ Jimi Hendrix embraced the movement and created a distinctive image for himself which often featured outrageous prints, colorful scarves and vests, groovy jackets, frilly shirts and bellbottom pants, as well as military-inspired elements to display his anti-establishment and anti-war stance.

African-American men and women embraced the afro hairstyle, associated with the Black Is Beautiful cultural movement. The “flower children” of the era could often be seen in peasant blouses and long, flowing skirts, and were commonly decked out in peace symbols, headbands and long beaded necklaces, known as love beads. Both genders could be seen in suede fringed jackets and vests and other accessories inspired by Native American motifs. Hippies favored long hair and minimal footwear, including sandals, moccasins or foregoing footwear all together.

Mod
The mod subculture began in London in the ’50s and spread throughout Great Britain and the United States in the ’60s. This era is closely associated with model and pop culture icon Twiggy, miniskirts and bold geometrical patterns on brightly colored clothes. Twiggy popularized the futuristic style of the white go-go minidress with knee-high boots and cropped pixie hair. Sex symbol Brigitte Bardot epitomized ’60s hair with soft messy waves, long parted bangs and a small bouffant. American women looked to Goldie Hawn and Judy Carne on Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In as style icons of mod fashion. Makeup emphasized the eyes with big lashes taking center stage, with youthful pale pink and white hued lipsticks to complete the look.
The British invasion had a lot to do with the mod look hitting the U.S. On men, the mod look could include slim-fitting suits with narrow pants and lapels, polo or Oxford button-down shirts, Madras plaid shirts or pants, well-pressed chinos, a cable knit sweater, Harrington jacket, a skinny knitted tie, penny loafer shoes and tortoiseshell sunglasses. Think Brian Jones of The Rolling Stones or Steve McQueen.
A Hard Day’s Night (1964) was a seminal influence on mod style and Blowup (1966) is considered a mod masterpiece.
Saturday Night Fever epitomizes the height of disco in the United States.
Disco
The disco craze that swept the country in the ’70s spawned a corresponding fashion craze.
Men strutted around the dance floor in tight bellbottoms—very often white, as opposed to the blue jeans of previous decades—and muscle-hugging shirts with gold chains. White suits with plunging necklines and wide lapels were common. When not in bellbottoms with halter-neck tops, women most often wore slinky knee-length wrap dresses. Jumpsuits and platform boots were popular with both sexes, as were hot pants and top-to-bottom gold lamé. The hippest men and women wore busily patterned polyester or nylon Huck-A-Poo brand button-down shirts. Big, bold patterns epitomized the disco era, as did big,dangling earrings.

Punk
The antithesis to the aforementioned fads, punk style was defiantly anti-materialistic, with preference for dirty-looking, simple clothes and secondhand fashions. The Ramones made the T-shirt, jeans and leather jacket combo a staple of the look. Some takes on the punk rock look included deliberately offensive images on T-shirts, purposely ripped clothing, fishnet stockings, studded and spiked jewelry and heavy eyeliner.
Punk fashion, established by artists like Lou Reed, the Ramones, Suicide, Sex Pistols and the New York Dolls, influenced designers of the day. Artist, musician, band manager and clothes designer Malcolm McLaren credits his style to punk rock innovator Richard Hell, whose aesthetic included pegged black jeans, torn T-shirts and frayed clothes held together with safety pins. British fashion designer Vivienne Westwood is largely responsible for bringing fashions of the punk scene into the mainstream. The punk movement also saw the emergence of body piercings and rise of tattoos among the populace.
Documentary New York Doll (2005) and film Blank Generation (1980) chronicle the early days of punk.

Cardi B became an instant Halloween costume when she left Harper’s Bazaar’s Icons Party with a huge lump on her forehead. As everyone and their moms know, the rapper got into a fight with Nicki Minaj at the party, which led to a swollen bump on her forehead and the loss of one of her shoes, which she took off to throw at Minaj. The look includes a floor-length red dress with puffy cap sleeves, some bling, a teased-out ponytail and, of course, a bruise above the eye, which can be created with makeup. Oh, and don’t forget to take a heel off and carry it around, ready to throw it at your nearest enemy. Have your friend be Minaj and make it a couple’s costume, too.
Ariana Grande and Pete Davidson

Since announcing their whirlwind engagement in May, Grande and Davidson have become one of Hollywood’s most talked about couples. They also have some standout looks perfect for re-creating for Halloween. One of their most iconic looks is pictured above, Grande and Davidson on a date in New York City. For Grande, you’ll need knee-high suede boots, an oversized yellow hoodie (sans pants), a hair clip, a small cross-body bag, a high ponytail (of course) and a lollipop to lick while looking at your fiancé. Though Grande’s look is iconic enough on its own, if you have a partner, they’ll need track pants, a checkered black-and-white flannel, another lollipop and a hoodie with hood over their face to re-create Davidson.
Black Panther

Black Panther was one of the biggest box-office successes of this year. And though it’s not the most DIY-friendly costume, if you pull it off, you’ll definitely hear some compliments. T’Challa’s Black Panther costume is the movie’s signature look, which can be found on Amazon for as low as $33 to $170. As for Nakia and Okoye, their costumes can be found on other sites for $70 and $57, respectively.
Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians was another box-office success from this year. And though the costumes in the film likely cost thousands and thousands of dollars (the movie does have the word rich in it), there are a lot of budget-friendly options to re-create the character’s looks. One of the most iconic costumes from the movie is Rachel Chu’s dress at Araminta Lee and Colin Khoo’s wedding, which features her in a light-blue Cinderella-like dress with tulle flowers on the waist and shoulders, which can be easily knocked off by buying a light-blue dress and gluing or sewing some scrunched-up tulle on it. For hair, wear your locks in an updo with a crown of small flowers like Rachel.
Queer Eye

Netflix’s Queer Eye became an instant sensation when it premiered late last year. So did its cast members, with each having his own style. For Tan France, the show’s fashion expert, wear a floral shirt with a French tuck and go for a quiff with gray streaks similar to Tan’s signature color. For Karamo Brown, the show’s culture expert, wear a bomber jacker a plain T-shirt and jeans. Jonathan Van Ness, the show’s grooming, will require a simple T-shirt and jeans with long, luscious, Jesus-like locks, so you may or may not need a wig. Bobby Berk, the show’s interior design expert, is often seen in short-sleeve button-ups, but you might need to carry some tools for people to really understand who you are. That leaves us with Antoni Porowski, the show’s food and wine expert, who’s often seen in T-shirts with the sleeves rolled up and jeans. Carry around an avocado with you, and Queer Eye fans will definitely know who you are.

Cyrus and Lil Xan made a statement at the 2018 MTV Video Music Awards when they showed some serious PDA on the red carpet, which resulted in the iconic picture above of Lil Xan squishing his nose against Cyrus’s cheek. To re-create Cyrus’s look, find a gold bralette and a matching set of wide-leg pants. Lil Xan will also need a matching two-piece, which will include a camo jacket and pants, plus a black beanie and whatever neck tattoos you care to draw on. Don’t forget to squish your nose against your partner for the picture. For an even more authentic look, bring a photoshopped nude picture of Charlie Puth on your phone, which, as many fans know, is one of the reasons that the couple recently broke up.

Netflix’s To All the Boys I Loved Before is ripe with Halloween costumes, thanks to its protagonist, Lara Jean Covey. There are so many outfits worth re-creating, but one of the most beloved is Lara Jean’s outfit above, which consists of a light-colored bomber jacket with a colorful printed dress and a brown leather backpack. Tie your hair in a ponytail with the character’s signature scrunchie and IRL Peter Kavinskys will come flocking to you.
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Who didn’t watch the royal wedding? Though re-creating a wedding dress isn’t the most budget-friendly, the payoff will be big. For Markle’s look, find a white A-line dress with sleeves and without any frills. Finish it off with with a floor-length veil (which can be easily made with some tulle from the crafts store) and a bouquet of flowers, and you’re the Duchess of Sussex for a night. For Prince Harry, find black pants with a red stripe and a black coat, which you’ll belt with a white belt. Add some pins to re-create the Prince’s military awards and consider a ginger hair dye.

Bieber has been a Halloween costume pretty much every year since he became a teen sensation in 2009. But 2018 marks a new Bieber era: engaged Bieber. His look is all about baggy clothes, oversized sneakers and baseball caps. But the real key to nailing this look is Bieber’s mustache and long, shoulder-length hair, which should be worn messy and unbrushed. For his soon-to-be wife, Baldwin, wear heels (to mimic her supermodel-long legs), a crop top with an oversized shirt over it and some shorts. The model is often seen in compression biker shorts, but here she’s wearing denim ones.

Though they were slightly different color schemes, the outfits usually consisted of the same getup: sweatpants-like leggings, a matching hoodie, a plain crop top, heels and an ice-blonde wig. The boy’s name? Jon Kortajarena, whose standing as one of the top male models in the world has lasted for over a decade now, and has also seen him edge into Hollywood, taking turns in Tom Ford’s A Single Man and TV show Quantico.
Along with his dalliances in the acting world, Kortajarena is still in high demand in fashion. Versace, Armani, Cavalli – you name them, Kortajarena has fronted their campaign. And of course, a career that requires you to wear top-notch clothing the majority of the time is going to rub off a little on your own personal style.
The Look
Despite being a fixture in an ever-changing fashion world, Kortajarena’s own style isn’t so reliant on what is trending or not. That’s not to say the man doesn’t have range. Trousers flip-flop from skinny jeans to looser and baggier fits depending on the look Kortajarena is going for.
In terms of palette, black or grey is dominant with the odd splash of colour – a red coat or pink blazer being neutralised by the failsafe base. Tailoring is also a go-to – when you’ve worked with the master Tom Ford how can it not? Here, Kortajarena is more experimental, with lavish shawl lapels and wild patterns mixing up his more casual off-duty looks.

A cool jacket that has the best of the bomber (ribbed cuffs) and the field jacket (double pockets) with a sprinkle of shearling, well, surely that’s a recipe made in smart-casual heaven. We would recommend faux shearling for the ethical reasons involved in the real fluff, but with faux it is best to suss it out in person as opposed to a pic on the internet. Finally some hiking boots complete this roll out of bed and come out impeccably stylish look.
Just A Regular Jon
Who says you need anything more than a button-down shirt and pair of dark jeans to look good? Sure, it’s a bit everyday but whether it’s in the office or at the weekend, the look is smart-casual perfection. Ralph Lauren is synonymous now with the look, and both it’s cotton and linen options are breathable, comfortable and endlessly stylish. Jon knows.
After Dark
No item of men’s clothing is more likely to guarantee you sex symbol status like the leather jacket. Of course it helps having the cheekbones and designer stubble of Kortajarena, but the leather racer jacket seen here is one of the easiest to get right. If you are of a slighter frame like Jon then go with a thicker leather to bulk out your shoulders.
A Study In Scarlet
A flash of red and a jazzy pattern is enough to grab jealous glances from fellow fashionistos but only as long as it’s neutralised and contrasted with a non-colour like Kortajarena’s favoured black or grey. In terms of shape the oversized duster coat only works if the rest of your outfit is streamlined so slim pleated trousers or skinny jeans will work grand.
Lapel Lovin’
Like the globe trotting playboy his looks and job decree, Kortajarena loves a smouldering smoking jacket completed with a dandy shawl lapel. Do bear in mind that shawl lapels work better on those with angular features, as round faced chaps will come unstuck by the rounded lapel’s similarities with their face shape.
The DB Relaxed
Boxy 1980s tailoring (of which the pinstripe suit is king) is creeping back into trend after a period of banishment to the fashion tundra, but in among the thawing don’t forget the basics of a well fitted suit. A medium break on the trousers shows off a more traditional suit cut among the cropped trousers crew prominent in menswear at the moment, while the roll neck always works for a dash of old school glamour.
The Name’s Kortajarena…
A million hearts have swooned at the sight of a well put together gentleman in a tuxedo. But for every fluttering heart there’s a Savile Row tailor shuddering over your decision to wear a morning suit to a black tie event. So let’s cover the bases by way of Jon – all black even down to the shoes? Check. Contrast lapels? Check. Expertly tied bow tie? Check. A virtuous white pocket square to finish it off? You bet.
Mr Potato Head?
Now the tuxedo has stood the test of time since the late 19th century so there is no reason you can’t shake it up a little. But as opposed to throwing some curveball colour in there, may we suggest a change-up accessory, like Kortajarena’s braces, as a preferred route. And then there is the ‘tache. Making a strong comeback thanks to the marvellous version sported by Mission Impossible star Henry Cavill, the best way to grow one is to have a beard first and then shave the sides.
Pretty In Pink
It pays to be colour coordinated but an all pink suit in that shade would be a bit too Barbie boy for anyone who isn’t made from 12 inches of plastic. The shade can swamp pale men, but looks ace with darker skin tones like Kortajarena’s, while it pays to get some contrast elsewhere on the outfit. White and black work best.
A Leopard Can Change Its Spots
Like the leather jacket, leopard print’s outrageousness has a habit of turning the wearer into a rock and roll star (the two can also work together to devastating effect). Here Kortajarena has decided to smarten up the print in a tidy evening jacket, aided by the black contrast lapels and a fit so perfect you wonder if it was made for him (by which we mean it certainly was).
Pyjama Party
Some might say that Kortajarena was aiming for a full break on the trouser hem here and missed. We prefer to think that he’s one of the few people to wear the pyjama trend and not look like an idiot. We could talk trouser hems all day (seriously, give us a wide berth at the pub) but up top things are more traditional. There are no bunches on the shoulders and wearing a grey crew neck under tailoring is the smart way of doing business-casual Fridays without having to resort to chinos.
Jon Valjean
There’s more than a touch of the 19th century French debonair ready to storm the barricade in this blazer. Subverting our ideas of what a blazer should be with the six buttons of a DB but a completely different shape, the gold works better on the contrasting black as it has the tendency of looking over-stuffy on traditional navy.
Carta Blanca
We love a good turtleneck/blazer combo, but nothing can beat the picture perfect marriage of roll neck and peacoat for peak smart-casual wear in the winter. Now usually the peacoat is navy, stemming from its nautical heritage, but style traditions are there to be broken and cream really does dazzle, as long as you keep it dry cleaned and looking, well, like cream.
Same Coat, New Rules
All it really takes to get through the colder months is one smashing winter coat (we say coat, not jacket – stockpile them to your cold heart’s content) and as the peacoat is the most versatile of the lot, it always happens to be the best pick. Swing over the shoulders of your casual jeans and sweater look for a get-up that is understated and surprisingly easy.
Cor Jon Bleu
For all the leopard print and Les Mis blazers, a well done blue suit can be just as effective. That’s not to say Kortajarena has gone all norm-core on us just yet. The fit is tight and tapered, accentuating his lithe frame with the gold kerchief a suited personal flourish.
