synopsis. zenin naoya and his lack of respect for women. [part of the dynasty series]
wc. 970
tags/warnings. rich boy!gojo, idk what else, zenin naoya exists, established relationship
a/n. i switch between present and past (like five mins prior) throughout BUT IF IT DOESN'T MAKE SENSE PLS LET ME KNOW. this has been sat in drafts for 2 months.
Tumblr media
“i wouldn’t have stopped you from punching him.”
gojo scoffed, pushing his hands through his hair frustratedly. the two of you sat together on the cold stone steps outside of some large historic building.
“i don’t think i would’ve stopped,” he let out a ragged breath and you rested one of your hands on his knee. his fingers naturally came to intertwine with yours and you think you saw his shoulders relax ever so slightly at the contact.
a silence settled between you, but it wasn't an awkward one. your boyfriend was reliving the last hour and you were doing your best to try and forget it.
“is he always like that?” you asked quietly. the he in question being zen’in naoya.
this was the first event that you had attended with gojo, and the first event gojo had ever attended with an actual date. he’d always turned down all of the girls his father offered to him (the children of other tech ceo’s that his father was encouraging him to get close to only for the benefit of his own bank account) and he’d never had a real girlfriend to bring prior to you.
“unfortunately,” he hummed quietly, brushing his thumb over your knuckles lightly. you shivered from the cool breeze and dared to shuffle closer to him.
you’d experienced many sides of gojo since you’d begun your relationship, but never had you seen him so irritated that he couldn’t verbally communicate it. he was the one who annoyed people to the brink of insanity, with his cocky remarks and over-the-top, excitable behaviour. few people had ever tried to one up him, and even fewer were successful in managing to get under his skin.
zenin naoya, though, loved the challenge.
“do you think your dad will mind if we’re out here?” you asked tentatively. gojo’s hand reflexively tightened briefly around yours at the mention of his father, his jaw clenching.
several minutes after gojo had led you inside the elegant infrastructure (to say you were getting imposter syndrome was an understatement), he’d left you by a confectionery stand in search of geto. according to him, you looked ‘too pretty’ and he didn’t want your dress to be ruined in the crowds. in other words, the less you mingled, the less likely you’d be harassed by his father’s rich peers – he’d already ‘accidentally’ knocked one drink over onto a woman who dared to hiss the word ‘gold digger’ under her breath as you passed.
it had to have been less than thirty seconds before the zenin appeared by your side, a sickening smirk on his twisted face. you knew who he was, you’d seen him once or twice around campus and you’d heard the stories, but you’d never been this close to him; not close enough to breath in the expensive cologne that smellt cheap.
“probably,” he clicked his tongue, tilting his head back to look up at the night sky.  “i’m sorry, i shouldn’t have brought you here.”
you nudged his shoulder gently, “i wanted to come.”
a mistake on both of your behalf – though neither of you could have predicted that naoya would try and make a scene when you rejected his advances.
"you two alright?"
both of you turned your heads back to see geto coming down the stairs towards you with a little skip in his step.
once naoya had your attention he wasted no time getting to his point – bigging up his status and telling you how gojo’s dad was doubting gojo’s position in the company. if you wanted a real man, in his words, you needed him.
obviously, you’d given him a disgusted look without much thought and denied the offer, taking a step back to try and find your tall, white haired boyfriend in the crowd (an oddly difficult task). you figured you were safer weaving through a crowd of high society snobs than you were spending another minute here. naoya, though, was persistent and didn’t hesitate to pull you back towards him with a harsh grip.
"just trying not to bash that zen'in's skull in," gojo muttered as he gently traced the red marks on your wrist. it looked worse than it felt – the pain had dissipated pretty quickly once you’d broken from naoya’s hold.
"i could get on board with that," the dark haired male dropped down next to you on the stairs, stretching out his legs and smoothing down his pants.
"geto.”
you figured out pretty quickly that gojo and geto were a package deal. best friends since diapers and equally as resentful to their parents’ ways of life and the pretence they’ve been raised in. two sides of the same coin, both of which willing to go extraordinary lengths for the other with no regard for consequences.
such as the jail time that would come with the aggravated assault of naoya.
though you would give it to geto – when gojo and him got to you and naoya, it was him who was ushering gojo to just take you outside, not to engage with the spoiled man child.
“geto,” geto mocked you with a grin, shrugging carelessly, "the kid’s an ass. he’s got it coming."
there was no more than a second until geto spoke up again, with an idea you were sure he’d had from the beginning of the night, his plans had just been accelerated: “shoko’s house is free now. her parents are away so she wasn’t forced to attend this bullshit,”
gojo’s head perked up at this, looking above your head at his best friend, “you think she’ll have the stuff for a smoke?”
“it’s ieiri,” you said in a ‘duh’ tone because when was she not smoking something. how she was top of her classes, you’d never know.
“god bless that girl,” geto blew a kiss to the sky.

Last round of Head Witches! Those present for the Incident at Hexside!
Adrian Graye Vernworth - The charming Head of the Illusions Coven! Adrian fancies himself a superstar and definitely feels entitled to everything that entails. He loves to talk about his (completely untrue) rags-to-riches story and generally talk about himself. He's the one with the starring role, after all.
He demonstrates a remarkable mastery of illusion magic to dazzle and confuse the senses. He's able to control an absolutely astonishing number of illusions at one time, a feat that he's quick to utilize.
His completely self-absorbed nature causes him to butt heads with pretty much all of the other Head Witches. He views himself as their superior in pretty much every way. He has a bitter rivalry with Vitimir and the two are always looking to one-up each other. Also, he'd never admit it but he is absolutely terrified of Hettie.
------------------------
Darius Deamonne - The haughty Head of the Abominations Coven. He's an incredibly fastidious witch who is known far and wide for his trendsetting looks and awe-inspiring power. For Darius, everything has its place and he very much prefers to keep things neat an orderly. Many have attempted to comment on how little since it makes for someone obsessed with tidiness to be an Abomination Witch but, like, they just don't get it.
He has an unparalleled degree of control over Abomination magic, even able to steal control from someone else's Abomination. Most impressive however is his ability to transform his body into an Abomination. He's not merely hiding inside the goop, he actually becomes it. In this form he's incredibly strong, fast and durable. Being made of the squishy material means that most attacks pass harmlessly through him. However the form does have a few weaknesses...
Among his peers Darius doesn't seem to get along with anyone, aside from an utterly inexplicable bond he has with Eberwolf. And he rather prefers for things to appear that way. As a member of the Rebellion, he is fast friends with Raine Whispers. He has nothing but unwavering faith in the Bard and fully believes that they are the key to moving things forwards.
Outside of his peers, Darius comes across as incredibly unapproachable and, as a result, he has very few connections. Having trained under a previous Golden Guard, he definitely has his eyes on the new one. Though he's totally unsure of how to proceed on that front. Also he's recently found some respect for the Blight kids and their friends.
------------------------
Hettie Cutburn - The implacable Head of the Healing Coven. I already made a post talking about Hettie's origin in more detail. She was born blind and with high expectations on her. She's always loved gore and viscera and anything that she can get her hands on which led her to a fervent passion for Healing Magic! (Particularly odd or gruesome surgeries are what truly make her happy.)
In spite of her interests she's become a very powerful and respected Healer who many view as saintly for the many life-saving procedures she's performed, even hailed as a miracle worker by some.
Her peers all know her better than that though. Those who don't fear her outright are wary of her and that's exactly how she likes it. The only exception is Terra who doesn't fear her, she simply looks down on the Healer for her disability. That makes her the only one Hettie truly hates instead of merely dislikes.
Her mastery of Healing Magic and the precision with which she wields it are absolutely unmatched. She can speed up her own healing processes to the point that her wounds close nearly instantly and her knowledge of anatomy enables her to very swiftly and efficiently remove threats.
She's trained herself to sense magic to compensate for her lack of sight and it makes it quite difficult to escape her. However, her dependence on it means that those with very weak or no magic are able to sneak up on her.
Sitting at the top of her craft for so long has left her bored. She's looking for a new thrill and in the halls of Hexside she found some very interesting witches...

5 Pieces of Dominican Non-Fiction Literature
Legitimate Kid: A Memoir
A poignant and moving memoir-in-essays from stand-up comedian Aida Rodriguez on the power of overcoming hardship and transforming pain into laughter.
Aida Rodriguez has, to put it mildly, lived a whirlwind life. Her rags to-riches story is mind-blowing: She was kidnapped as a child by her mother in the Dominican Republic and brought to the US. She was later kidnapped again by her grandmother and uncle, and moved from New York to Florida. As an adult, she ended a difficult marriage and endured homelessness with her children in Los Angeles. But through it all she never lost her sense of humor.
Plantains and the Seven Plagues: A Memoir: Half-Dominican, Half-Cuban, and Full Life
Author, Paz Ellis, takes readers on a cross-cultural and trans-generational journey through her childhood in West New York, New Jersey to adulthood with Plantains and the Seven Plagues, A Memoir: Half-Dominican, Half-Cuban, and Full Life.
Paz insightfully describes the complexities and contradictions of growing up in the United States to a Dominican mother and a Cuban father. From her mother's obsessive cleaning rituals to her father's remarkable knack for invention, this book beautifully explains what living a hyphenated-life means for so many Hispanics. She writes about what it means to be American, and Cuban, and Dominican, and having to be all of those things and only one of them… all at the same time.
Undocumented: A Dominican Boy's Odyssey from a Homeless Shelter to the Ivy League
An undocumented immigrant's journey from a New York City homeless shelter to the top of his Princeton class Dan-el Padilla Peralta has lived the American dream. As a boy, he arrived in the United States legally with his family. Together they had traveled from Santo Domingo to seek medical care for his mother. Soon the family's visas lapsed, and Dan-el's father eventually returned home. But Dan-el's courageous mother decided to stay and make a better life for her bright sons in New York City.
Bird of Paradise: How I Became Latina
In 2009, Raquel Cepeda embarked on an exploration of her genealogy using ancestral DNA testing to uncover the truth about her family and the tapestry of races and ethnicities that came together in an ambiguous mix in her features, resulting in "a beautiful story of reconciliation and redemption" (Huffington Post) with her identity and what it means to be Latina.

Who Knew Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was Controversial?
Welcome to my very first blog post. Today I want to talk about the children's story that we all know and love, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Whether it be the original book, or one of the two movie adaptations, we’ve all at least heard of this classic story in some way. Today I want to focus on the original children’s book written by Roald Dahl and the controversies it has racked up throughout the years.
Let's start with a little background on the author and a quick summary of the book for those of us who may need a refresher. Roald Dahl, who died in 1990 at the age of 74, was a British author who is still considered one of the most popular children’s authors. He is known for popular works such as James and the Giant Peach, Matilda, and The Witches, and his books have sold more than 300 million copies globally. He was known to voice some offensive opinions outside of his work and was also notorious for his anti-sematic remarks. Be that as it may, his works were still very successful. Charlie and the Chocolate Factory was first published in 1964 and is perhaps one of Dahl’s most popular works, having sold at least 20 million copies world-wide in 55 different languages. It has two different movie adaptations, and has even been adapted for stage performances. So no matter which form it’s viewed in, this classic continues to lure children in with its rags-to-riches tale.
The main character of the book is an 11 year old boy named Charlie Bucket who lives in poverty with his parents and all 4 grandparents. Everyday on his way to school Charlie passes the famous chocolate factory owned by Willy Wonka. No one is ever seen coming in or out of the factory and Wonka is very secretive. Charlie’s grandfather tells him that this is due to competitors stealing Wonkas candy-making secrets, causing the factory to shut down temporarily in the past. One day Wonka announces that he will be hiding 5 Golden Tickets inside chocolate bars and that the children who find them will be rewarded with a tour of the factory and a lifetime supply of his products.
Charlie happens to find some money sticking out of the snow while walking one day, uses it to buy two chocolate bars, and discovers the final Golden Ticket in one of them. When Charlie and the four other children enter the factory they are amazed by both its beauty, and the creatures who work there. These creatures are the cacao-bean loving Oompa Loompa’s, who Wonka explains are from a land called “Loompaland”. They are described as being tiny men with white skin and golden hair who love to sing, and are the only people Wonka employs to work in his factory. As the tour continues, the other four children suffer bizarre, and sometimes painful, consequences for their selfish and bad behavior. For example the bubble gum obsessed Violet Beauregarde steals a piece of experimental gum that turns her into a blueberry. The mischievous Oompa Loompas break into songs highlighting the children's bad behavior each time this happens. By the end of the tour Charlie is the only one of the 5 children left standing, so to reward him for his good behavior Wonka gives him the chocolate factory and that's how the story ends.
Now if you’re anything like me you may be wondering, where did people find controversy in that? Well to start, Dahl had originally described the Oompa Loompas as African pygmies that Wonka found in the deepest, darkest parts of the African Jungle. However, Dahl himself changed their description to white-skinned and golden haired fantasy creatures in 1973 after many complaints and protests by the NAACP. The NAACP even went as far as to demand that the 1971 movie adaptation be given a different name than the book so people wouldn’t make the connection between the two and read the book. And now today the books publishers at Puffin Books are going to be making even more changes to the story in their New Edition reprints of the book. The Oompa Loompas will no longer be described as “tiny men no higher than my knee”, but will instead simply be called “small people” to avoid offending short people and to erase the exclusion of women. Also the description of Augustus Gloop, one of the 5 children on the tour, will be changed from “enormously fat” to just “enormous” to avoid offending heavy-weight children. I really don’t see the point in either of these changes since you can clearly see their original descriptions in both of the movies, but to each their own I guess.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory isn’t the only one of Dahl’s works undergoing these changes. They are all being edited in some way and this is upsetting many fans of the original works as well as other authors and anti-censorship advocates. British-American novelist Salman Rushdie had this to say, “Roald Dahl was no angel, but this is absurd censorship. Puffin Books and the Dahl Estate should be ashamed.” My main question is where do they draw the line? At what point are they beginning to read these books with the pretense “how could this be seen as offensive”? Were these changes really necessary or are the Sensitivity Readers in charge of pointing these things out just that; too sensitive. I believe we’re beginning to step into the danger zone of controlling the creativity and imaginations of writers by changing their visions for their stories. Most children wouldn’t read these things and see them as offensive, so all they’re really going to accomplish is softening children and making them believe everything to be offensive. But part of life is having to learn to deal with things that might upset you, or make you uncomfortable. And children should have to learn that not everything is a personal attack.
If you’ve made it all the way to the end thank you! I would love to hear your thoughts and opinions on this topic. Just remember to stay respectful towards each other in the comments section. You can disagree with each other, but still be kind and respectful, that’s how good debates work. Let me know if you’d like to hear about any of Dahl’s other works and their individual controversies and changes. And also feel free to make requests on what you think I should write about next.

4th April
Dick Whittington
Tumblr media
Source: alchetron.com
On this day in 1406, Richard Whittington became Lord Mayor of London for the third time, fulfilling the contemporaneous rhyme ‘Turn again Whittington, thou worthy citizen, Lord Mayor of London’. The timeless rags-to-riches tale of the kitchen lad being persuaded by London’s bells to turn back to the city Dick had almost given up on, and then making his fortune thanks to his cat’s rat-catching abilities aboard a wealthy merchantman, is sadly completely made up. Whittington was the son of a Gloucestershire landowner, and therefore elevation to the London Lord Mayoralty was perhaps not so remarkable - although achieving the office three times was quite impressive. Even his famous cat may have been a play on words: Richard made his fortune by trading in coal which was carried up and down the waterways in cargo boats known as “ketches”. It is a wonderful story though.
Early April is also the time you are most likely to encounter Britain’s only venomous snake, the adder, as they emerge from their winter sleep and go in search of a mate. In Britain, adders were often depicted as well-guardians, probably reflecting an ancient belief in serpent-deities who protected wells before they became progressively dedicated to Christian saints. Adders also have a reputation for divination and a carving of Verbeira, a Romano-British river goddess, has been discovered in West Yorkshire, clutching two snakes. The carving now rests, perhaps a little incongruously, in the church at Ilkley.

The Transformative Influence of Paper in Islam and It’s Impact on European Renaissance
Paper, a humble yet revolutionary invention, holds a significant place in Islamic civilisation, shaping not only the intellectual and cultural landscape of the Muslim world but also influencing the broader trajectory of human history. From its inception in the Islamic Golden Age to its dissemination across continents, the impact of paper transcends borders, fostering connections and exchange between diverse cultures.
Tumblr media
Islamic Contributions to Paper-making
During the Islamic Golden Age, Muslim scholars made remarkable advancements in the art of paper-making. Building upon earlier Chinese and Central Asian techniques, they refined the process, introducing innovations such as the use of linen rags and water-powered mills. These advancements revolutionised the production of paper, making it more affordable and accessible than ever before.
The Transmission of Paper-making Technology
As the Islamic civilisation flourished, so too did the dissemination of paper-making technology. Through trade routes stretching from the India to Europe, Muslim merchants and scholars facilitated the transfer of knowledge, including the art of paper-making, to distant lands. The renowned scholar Ibn Khaldun noted the spread of paper-making from the East to the West, attributing its diffusion to the ingenuity and enterprise of Muslim artisans and traders.
Impact on European Renaissance
The introduction of paper to Europe during the Middle Ages heralded a period of intellectual and cultural renaissance. Islamic Spain, with its rich tradition of scholarship and learning, served as a conduit for the transmission of paper-making technology to the Iberian Peninsula. From there, it spread to other parts of Europe, fuelling the proliferation of books, manuscripts, and scientific treatises that laid the foundation for the European Renaissance.
The Printing Press and the Gutenberg Revolution
Paper played a pivotal role in the Gutenberg Revolution, the advent of movable type printing in Europe. Johannes Gutenberg, inspired by Islamic manuscripts brought to Europe via Spain, utilised paper as a medium for his groundbreaking invention: the printing press. This technological innovation democratised access to knowledge, catalysing a revolution in literacy, education, and the dissemination of ideas.
Empowering Communication and Exchange
In an interconnected world, paper continues to serve as a vehicle for communication and exchange within Muslim communities and beyond. Whether through handwritten letters, printed publications, or digital mediums, the written word transcends barriers of time and space, fostering dialogue, collaboration, and mutual understanding. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) emphasized the importance of conveying messages of peace and goodwill, stating,
“Exchange gifts, as that will lead to increasing your love to one another” (Sahih al-Bukhari).
The story of paper in Islam is a testament to the power of human ingenuity, innovation, and exchange. From its origins in the Islamic Golden Age to its global diffusion and enduring relevance in the digital era, paper has transcended boundaries, connecting peoples and cultures in a shared pursuit of knowledge and enlightenment. As Muslims reflect on the profound impact of paper on their heritage, they are reminded of their role as stewards of this invaluable legacy, entrusted with preserving and perpetuating it for generations to come.

This is the story of a young man who, from the age of 14, embarked on a journey that would test his resolve, challenge his limits, and ultimately lead him to the heights of entrepreneurial success.
The Early Days
At the tender age of 14, Vinayak Hasti's life was far from luxurious. He didn't have access to the latest gadgets, fancy laptops, or high-speed internet. What he did have, though, was a dream and an unyielding determination to turn it into a reality. The Transformation
As years passed, Vinayak's hard work began to pay off. At the age of 18, he had not only defied the odds but shattered them. Les Misérables 280/365 -Victor Hugo
BOOK ELEVENTH THE ATOM FRATERNIZES WITH THE HURRICANE
271
The insurrections started to advance following the hearse at the head, the ranks were shaken and fled. At that time a ragamuffin child took a pistol with no trigger from a show window, a few minutes later he was singing about frightened bourgeoise. After helping his father that night he went back to the elephant, gave his two brothers food and left them to the street that raised him, giving them a spot to meet up but the two didn’t return and Gavroche wondered about it for twelve weeks. “The lowest depths of the actual social world are full of these lost traces.”p.679 (how many stories abruptly ended) In Rue Saint-Louis, Gavroche tore down theatre posters and spits at fat rich people.
272
He brandishes his triggerless pistol, he’s had enough despotism, he helped a fallen National Guard right his horse and continued on in the apathy. Four decrepit gossipers, three portresses and a rag picker, they discuss the paper, once it reported how many stray dogs there were and old kings, now things are so poor and expensive, no one throws out anything anymore. (2023 feels ya) Gavroche asks why they’re talking politics; he bites his thumb at them (like flipping the bird) when they are rude to him. They comment there’s evil about, pistols everywhere after things started to get peaceful again. “You’re in the wrong to insult the revolutionists, Mother Dust-Heap-Corner. This pistol is in your interests. It’s so that you may have more good things to eat in your basket.”p.681
273
The hairdresser who chased Gavroche’s two brothers off was shaving an old Empire soldier and talking of Lamarque’s death and the riots. The soldier said the emperor didn’t know how to fall, so didn’t, he had a fine white horse. As a veteran, he was wounded in many battles including Waterloo. The hairdresser thinks it’s better to die quick in battle than bit by bit by illness when the window exploded from a rock Gavroche threw and the hairdresser laments what has anyone done to him, (really you don’t know) he just does mischief for pleasure.
274
In Marche Saint-Jean, Gavroche met with Enjorlas and his friends, they were armed and Gavroche had him come along to Quai Morland. The bourgeoise cried in fear at Bahorel’s scarlet waistcoat, Gavroche studied Bahorel as Enjorlas warned him about wasting supply. Bahorel mentioned Herde, that was on a poster he tore down and asked what it meant, dog in Latin. More students, artisans, laborers and such joined them and an unarmed old man, Mabeuf.
275
Enjorlas and his friends were on Boulevard Bourdon when the dragoons made their charge. They fled to the barricades and Courfeyrac recognised Mabeuf stumbling in the street and warned him to go home but he followed them not saying a word or taking arms as he advanced to the front rank and Gavroche made his way to the front too and sang of Charley asking Charlotte when to go to the forest.
276
A man whose hair was turning gray joined them, Courfeyrac remarked on it but Gavroche didn’t pay attention. (wonder who this could be) Courfeyrac left to retrieve his hat and purse and hid a coffer on his person. A portress called out to him that someone wanted to talk to him, a youthful artisan in tattered clothes wants to know where Marius is and when told he doesn’t know they followed Courfeyrac to the barricade. (wonder who this could be) He gave someone his coffer as the mob didn’t know what to do next in Rue Saint-Denis.
BOOK TWELFTH CORINTHE
277
Now a days, Parisians notice on the right, opposite of Rue Mondetour, a sign of Napoleon. A terrible scene witnessed thirty years ago, a public house. Corinthe, the obscure barricade of Rue de la Chanvrerie a labyrinth of four streets, seven islands of houses, cut up narrow streets, Rue Saint-Denis was a funnel leading to the other streets and taverns. Corinthe was a popular wine house and Hucheloup also offered food, a specialty of stuffed carps. The labyrinth was opened in 1847 and probably no longer exists now, Rue de la Chanvrerie and Corinthe disappeared under Rue Rombuteau. Corinthe was a meeting place of Courfeyrac and his friends, Grantaire discovered, it they paid badly if at all but were welcome, (they didn’t pay and they allow them to come and eat free food and down bottles of wine how did they not go out of business) in 1830 Hucheloup died, the cooking deteriorated and the bad wine worse, but Courfeyrac and his friends still went. (still free food and wine) The restaurant hall had tables and chairs lighted by one window (oh oh I know where this is going) served by window Hucheloup and two girls, Matelote and Gibelotte.
278
Laigle lived with Joly (they were roomates) and did everything in common, on June 5th they went to Corinthe for breakfast and Grantaire joins them with wine, two bottles and Laigle teases him for it. Laigle says they just saw the head of the procession; the street is so quiet. Grantaire complains of the food and servants, he hates the human race, he drinks more and goes on a tangent of revolutions, law, how he would lead straightforward, progress advances by men and events, everything is in disorder. (two page rant) Human and royal destiny worn and threadbare, he sees so much misery, God can't be rich, a poverty-stricken universe, creation bankrupt, it’s why he’s discontented, maybe daylight won’t come. He speaks without evil intent, he was born for other positions, people are too hard on Turks, Mohammed had his points. It appears they are going to massacre each other, it’s time to enlighten the human race. “People strive, turn each other out, prostitute themselves, kill each other, and get used to it!”p.693
He went on about Marius in a vapor of his love affair, he’s of the poet race. He was on his second bottle when a child entered looking for Bossuet, (Laigle’s other name remember cause I forgot) Laigle asks what does he want, to pass on the message ABC. Laigle has the two lend him a twenty-sou piece and paid the boy Navet (Gavroche’s friend) who has to join the procession to shout Down with Polignoc! Grantaire starts talking about Gamins when Laigle interrupted, it was a warning of the burial of Lamarque, Grantaire doesn’t think much of revolution and continues to drink and declare he won't go. The three drank past noon and turned Grantaire back towards cheerfulness when they heard the call to arms in the streets and their friends called to Courfeyrac to build a barricade there.
279
Corinthe was an obstacle, Rue Mondetour easily barricaded, the only possible attack was right in sight at Rue Saint-Denis. There was terror of the mob, people fled buildings shut up as things were torn up to bar the street. “There is nothing like the bond of the populace for building everything that is built by demolishing.”p.696 Omnibuses weren't allowed entry as Grantaire makes an ass of himself and Enjorlas tells him to go off, don’t disgrace the barricade (Don’t Let The Wine Go To Your Brains~), it sobered up Grantaire and asks to sleep there to die. Enjorlas doubts he’s capable of even dying, Grantaire tells him he’ll see. (oooh hm this is gonna hurt)
280
Courfeyrac demolished the wine shop telling window Hucheloup it was to her benefit which she doubted. When the rain stopped barrels of powder were brought and torches. Enjorlas, Courfeyrac and Combeferre directed the construction of more barricades with their motley crew. (saw a poll out of 3,714 votes of material to build a barricade 24.1% threw in coffins) “One would have pronounced them brothers, but they did not know each other’s names. Great perils have this fine characteristic, that they bring to light the fraternity of strangers.”p.698 The lofty gray-haired man helped to build a barricade and so was Gavroche and the man who asked for Marius disappeared. Gavroche went about in readiness in joy telling them to booby trap with glass and he wants a real gun if Enjorlas dies before him he’ll take his. (I like Gavroche he’s a little shit)

"Rag Darbari: A Satirical Masterpiece Exposing the Corrupt Reality of Rural India"
Rag Darbari, written by Shrilal Shukla, is a satirical novel that offers a scathing commentary on the corruption and decadence that plagues the political and social institutions of rural India. The novel, which was originally published in 1968, continues to be regarded as a masterpiece of Hindi literature.
The story of Rag Darbari revolves around the protagonist Rangnath, a young man who returns to his village after completing his studies in the city. He is supposed to take over the reins of his family's ancestral property and become the head of the village. However, Rangnath soon discovers that the village is mired in corruption and politics, with various factions vying for power and control.
Through the character of Rangnath, Shrilal Shukla offers a searing critique of the Indian political system and its endemic corruption. He shows how the village is run by a nexus of politicians, bureaucrats, and criminals, who are more interested in lining their own pockets than serving the people. The novel also delves into issues such as casteism, feudalism, and the exploitation of the poor by the rich.
What makes Rag Darbari such a remarkable novel is its use of satire and humor to drive home its point. Shukla's writing is sharp, witty, and often hilarious, even as he exposes the ugly realities of rural India. The novel is full of colorful characters, such as the wily politician Dinanath, the pompous village headman, and the conniving contractors who are always on the lookout for ways to make a quick buck.
At its heart, Rag Darbari is a novel about power and its corrupting influence. It shows how even the most idealistic of individuals can be swayed by the allure of power and money, and how corruption can spread like a cancer, infecting every aspect of society. The novel is a powerful indictment of the Indian political system, and a reminder that true change can only come from the bottom up, through the actions of ordinary people.
In conclusion, Rag Darbari is a must-read novel for anyone interested in Indian literature or politics. Shrilal Shukla's writing is witty, insightful, and deeply engaging, and the novel offers a compelling commentary on the state of rural India. If you haven't read it yet, I highly recommend that you do.
