I just discovered that there was a person who was afab and ended up joining the russian army by the name of Alexander Durov in 1806.
Born a woman, Nadezhda Durova (birth name) ran away from home and joined a light cavallery regiment dressed as a man.
After his identity was uncovered, the russian tsar summoned him to the palace at St. Petersburg, where he impressed the tsar so much that he awarded Durov the Cross of St. George and promoted him to lieutenant in a hussar unit.
Tumblr media
He always referred to himself as a man and was upset when people called him a woman.
He signed letters with his male last name.
He expressed feelings of disgust towards his sex and how that worried him a lot.
He never married willingly and adopted many dogs and cats.
He only danced with women when attending a ball.
He asked to be buried under his male name Alexander Andreevich Alexandrov but the church did not agree to that.
I never saw him in "historical transmasculine people" compilations and only discovered his story coincidentally.
Unfortunately, historians still adress him with female pronouns, although he did not want that.
Let's remember him together. We won't allow him to be forgotten.
I'll probably add onto this post later or make a better one but you can read a lot on this wikipedia article:

You know what fuck you *travels back in time to join a revolution and we fight and drink and share homoerotic tension. We have one last drink and song with our buddies and try our best to defend ourselves and tend to the wounded with our cravats but we end up dying together in each others’ arms all bloodied but looking into each others’ eyes.*

IT WAS HAVERS SWAGGER STICK AND I MISSED THAT. so you mean to tell me he clutched it close to himself in death because it belonged to Havers. that everytime he holds and uses that stick he is holding a piece of Havers with him. and he never once let go.

The Song of Achilles
I seek comfort from all of you atp. I'm a fragile soul and a very dedicated fangirl. I finished TSOA more than 3 months ago. As a lot of you can relate I assume, the pain keeps coming back. The first time I finished reading it, I struggled functioning for a whole week. I could barely stop crying. Then I re read it almost immediately because it IS the most beautiful thing on earth. Everytime I think of Patroclus and Achilles, my heart breaks. It literally breaks, I can feel the pain almost physically. My only comfort is the ending. I can't describe in words, how the last few lines of the book is holding me together. In my opinion this is the best possible ending for the lovers. They had to give up mortality to reunite in eternity. They're together now, in peace. They'll be together till the end of time.
Recently I read Circe, and the mentione of Achilles and Patroclus gave me another TSOA phase. I'M SO FUCKING SAD TONIGHT.

I'm curious about Historical Gays
Ah the Morgana/Gwen fic stuck in a very weird state right now. You know sometimes your brain just goes "nope" about something for no apparent reason? It's been doing that to me a lot in regards to reading these past couple of years which is what set off the fanfic backlog I'm still trying to dent. Physical books have been much the same so despite owning Le Morte D'Arthur nothing processes. I'm having good and bad days but it's a lot better than the complete stonewall it was for months. Given I bought it for reference material things stalled.
ANYWAY brain issues aside. I really wanted to delve into the relationship where Gwen is a person rather than an excuse for one man's hatred of the "other". The two were clearly close from what little we're allowed to see in Wizards and the trio even childhood friends with a future arranged marriage over their heads. I already dabbled with it in Heart of Glass where Nari was unintentionally the instigator for children being banned from the woods by the virtue of being spotted and presumed a threat showing Arthur's hatred already existed even then. Given Morgana's own comment "Ending a century of injustice", it stands to reason Uther minimum, more likely his own father going into grand he'd been exposed from a young age. Politics and heritage kept the status quo going of likely tit for tat that turned into a purge because of an accident.
Gwen never seemed to have that given her love of magic and Morgana discovered her own gift and in turn learned under Merlin how to control it despite the differences in opinion on shadowmancy. They had their night wanders where they could just be themselves not their status. You can fall for your husband's sister while learning to love the other and trying to carve out a piece of happiness there.
Maybe things could have been better than what they'd become.

10+ years and me and my husband have finally made it into the friend zone!
Tumblr media
Can’t wait for historians to dig up our fossilized remains in one thousand years and use this as evidence we were just VERY GOOD FRIENDS.
