Delicious hunky nuggets of seaglass suspended from recycled sterling silver wire and decorated with my own hand made ceramic beads fired in ocean colour glazes. I found these good sized smooth sea glass pebbles at Seaham in the North of England where Victorian and Edwardian glass factories once stood and where now the beach is visited by ghosts of the past. . . . #seahamseaglass #englishseaglass #seaglassnecklace #beachnecklace #historicaljewelry #sustainablejewelry #recycledsterlingsilver #sustainablefashion #ecosilver #potterybeads #ceramicbeads https://www.instagram.com/p/CiiDyrZIJW6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Jewelry History - Africa
Jewelry History – Africa
After our jaunt through the Regency Period, I thought we would take a moment and reflect on the newest Federal holiday in the best way this blog can: the history of jewelry through Africa. My new year resolution is to stop hoarding (so much) and to release pieces I'm not wearing much. This pendant is the first from my personal collection to be released. It is a wonderful Renaissance devotional pendant, crafted in silver and dating to the 16th - 17th century. It depicts a radiant "Christ Treading On The Beasts", a subject found in Late Antique and Early Medieval art, held within a heart-shaped frame. The earliest appearance of the subject in a major work is a 6th-century mosaic of Christ, dressed as a general or emperor in military uniform, clean-shaven and with a cross-halo, in the Archbishop's Chapel, Ravenna. A lion and snake are shown. Available in the shop. * A reminder that I will not be shipping new orders until January 12. . . . . . . . #renaissance #renaissanceart #renaissancependant #renaissancejewelry #pendantsofig #antiquejewelry #statementjewelry #antiquescollector #antiqueobsessed #antiquejewellery #torontoantiques #rarejewelry #devotionalpendant #religiousjewelry #talisman #amulet #heirloomjewelry #antiquesofinstagram #historicaljewelry #17centuryjewelry #devotionaljewelry #christtreadingonthebeasts #16thcenturyjewelry #antiquejewelryaddiction #religiouspendant #talismanjewelry #protectionjewelry #statementpendant #blackumbrellaantiques #blackumbrellajewelry https://www.instagram.com/p/CmrLUxyOVR5/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Viking ring
Metal: sterling silver (925) Weight: approx. 9 g (0,31 oz)
Viking art, also known commonly as Norse art, is a term widely accepted for the art of Scandinavia and Viking settlements further afield—particularly in the British Isles and Iceland—during the Viking Age of the 8th-11th centuries CE. Viking art has many design elements in common with Celtic, Germanic, the later Romanesque and Eastern European art, sharing many influences with each of these traditions.

• The brooches • Part 1/6 of "The woman at Spurkeland", early 900s CE ✨

The bronze tortoise brooches found in the grave were double shelled. The open-work top shells were gold-plated and richly ornamented, with a smooth inner shell beneath. They are within type R652/654 (Rygh), categorized as P51 in Petersen's classification of tortoise brooches. This is actually the most common brooch design from the Viking Age, with findings spread from Norway (with about 50 findings in my county alone) to Denmark, Sweden, Iceland, the British Isles, Russia... That makes you think, doesn't it? I find it so interesting how these fashion designs managed to find their way to local farmsteads up hill and down dale, in a time where travel was done by foot, horse and ship. #viking #vikings #norse #vikingage #vikingtid #reenactment #vikingreenactment #livinghistory #levendehistorie #archaeology #spurkeland #vikinglife #vikingbling #tortoisebrooches #historicalclothing #historicaljewelry #historicaljewellery #vikingblog #valkyrie #valkyrja https://www.instagram.com/p/CS-CpG7Lmsa/?utm_medium=tumblr

New 💙 Medieval Jewelry Set Each time i create a piece, i pass a little of what i have learn from jewelry history and ancient crafts techniques. Im a self learner, and im very proud of my creations. I could simply shared the finish piece, and that's it...but, i like to take the time to create unique texts to ilustrate from were my inspiration comes...guess that's what makes them unique...at least for me 🥰 So, this new jewelry set was inspired by the history of chain mail. Hope you like it! 🧡 When thinking of chain mail, one cannot help but wonder where it was used for the first time.  Accordingly to some historians, chain mail or mail, was firstly used by the Celts or the Romans, still there are others who believe it can be traced back to Asian Countries.   Despite this fact, it can be confirmed, that chain mail was used throughout the Middle Ages and at least until the 16th Century.  At first, mail armors where consisted by sewing iron rings to fabric or leather in forms that could be adapted to the body.  These handcrafted armors, served to protect knights from being cut by their opponents blade.  Around the 12th Century, medieval armoures improved significantly.  Instead of being sewn on garments, chain mail was independently fabricated, using steel links that where riveted or soldered.  Being flexible and allowing movement, and easy to repair if pierced, there were several advantages of using it.  Link in bio! You can also choose to buy from my etsy shop. Just search: NVCreationsPT 🧡🧡🧡 . . . . . . . . . . #nvcreationspt #medievalchainmail #chainmaillejewelry #chainmailjewellery #chainmailnecklace #chainmailearrings #chainmaillejewelry #chainmaillenecklace #chainmailleearrings #chainmailleartisan #maillelovers #renfairecostume #medievaljewelry #medievalwomen #medievalinspired #medievalstyle #historicaljewellery #historicallyinspired #antiquestylejewelry #historicaljewelry #handcraftedartisan #handmadeshop #medievalfair #medievalcostume #portuguesebrand #etsyportugal #etsysmallshopowner #etsyhandmadejewelry #etsyhandmadeseller (at Lisbon, Portugal) https://www.instagram.com/p/CXEx5H9sr7B/?utm_medium=tumblr
