So I'm working on a presentation for my history class and I had to pick a event or something that happened during WW2 in American. Me being the cottage core loving being am i, I picked victory gardens and rationing.
See, that would be a normal topic to go over. However, I am not normal. I know that there are comics and cartoon panels of Disney characters -mostly Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck, however I learned of a new comic character.
Fucking. Batman.
It was the cover of comic from the world's finest comics, which were war time comics of Batman, Robin, and Superman. This one, number 11 in the comic line, depicts the three in a war time Victory Garden.
I expected this from Superman, him being a farm boy and all, and possibly Robin cause he's a child. However Batman was not who I was expecting to be harvesting fucking cabbage.
The things you discovered in a search for posters.

My history professor just said "19 century research" while taking a deep sigh of pure despair. What a mood.

i think I owe every good grade I've got in government and US history classes to Hamilton, School House Rock, and that one book I read in the 5th grade

Lowkey annoyed right now. I convinced my parents to let me stay home today, which was great because I slept all day but when I woke up I got a text from my best friend saying that I missed newsies and that they were watching it in history. I’m a hard core theater kid and newsies is literally my will to live and when my history teacher told me that she also enjoys newsies and that later in the year we’re going to watch the movie and learn about it, I was ecstatic. I literally couldn’t wait because I already know a bunch about the news boy strike but of course a random Friday I decide I don’t want to go to school is when we learn about it?! Are you kidding me?!?

Shoutout to my middle school US history teacher. One time the class was going to play a game of Capture the Flag: Revolutionary War Edition with one side being the Americans and one side being the British. Now, I have some disabilities and mobility issues, and I always slowed down my team in games like that, so I was dreading the game. When I told him why I was worried, he didn’t force me to play anyways like any other teacher would have. Instead, he told me I could be in charge of France (the American side’s time-out corner) and send my soldiers (anyone who got out) back into battle when America requested our aid. It ended up being stupid fun. The other kids got into it too and we all started shouting at our teammates from the sidelines in terrible French accents. Best game of capture the flag I’ve ever played.

My history teacher: Have y'all ever heard of the phrase easier than shooting a fish in a barrel? Well this is kind of like that, except it’s shooting Archduke Franz Ferdinand, in a car, in an alleyway.
Classmate: And there’s no reverse.
My history teacher: And there’s no reverse!

Diving into the history side of tumblr tonight. I’m writing an essay on the battle of Culloden for my War and the World class and fucking hell I don’t know how people can do this kind of shit to other people.
Slight gore warning ahead
Post Battle of Culloden, the English soldiers went through and killed the wounded jacobites laying amidst the dead and then splashed each other with the blood for amusement.
How do you even do that to another person? I just— I’m kinda at a loss for words. Lost all faith in humanity in the span of two sentences yippee

How the musical "Come From Away" saved my first day in a new History class in grade 10
No one has asked for this but im sharing it anyway but it's kinda long so im putting it under the cut
i started in one class for the first 2-3 days, but because I was switching around some other classes, i ended up getting switched into a different History class
I walked into the class on my first day, and since he had already kind of gotten into their first unit, which was 9/11, he decided to quiz me a bit to see what I knew
Him: I'm guessing, since you came from that other class, you when 9/11 happened?
Me: September 11th, 2001. (obviously.)
Him: Very good! And I'm guessing that since you were in that other class, you know what day of the week that was? (he probably wasn't really expecting me to answer this)
Me: *has a vivid memory of listening to the Come From Away soundtrack and hearing them all shout "September 11th, 2001. TUESDAY."*
Me: It was a Tuesday.
Him: *visibly semi-impressed* Yes, it was. And, I bet, since you were in that other class, you know what time of day it happened?
Me: *Thinks of the song Me And The Sky with the lyric "suddenly someone on air-to-air traffic says at 8:46 there was a terrorist action"*
Me: It was 8:46am.
Him: *visibly stunned* Y-yes. It was. Good job.
Other students in my class: what the FUCK?
(he ended up being one of my favorite teachers ever and is the reason i am studying History now)

Based on what we've learned about the history of Halloween, is today's Halloween a day of charity? Why or why not?
this is a really interesting topic to think about in my opinion. I mean a lot of our modern Halloween traditions come from older days of charity. The giving of alms to those carrying candles when they came to your door, gifting members of a community in need with food from the harvest right before the cold winter sets in. Certainly these were charitable actions. But today when I think about Halloween, charity isn't the first thought that comes to mind. Personally I love Halloween for it's vibes, like a lot of other queer and non-christian people. For me personally, it's a day of celebration and expression that normally is seen as excessive. If I were to dress in an elegant black and white dress with heavy makeup and accessories another day, I would likely draw attention to myself by judgemental eyes. But on Halloween? I get celebrated. I am also a big horror fan, and that is another reason the Halloween season draws me in. I don't get called weird for listening to a horror podcast in September/October, but in December, or even July? I get questioned for listening to something scary. Though I suppose the real reason you'd consider Halloween a day of charity would be trick-or-treating. In the loosest definition, it is a charitable act. Giving a candy to people who come to your door. And certainly I enjoy passing out candy and participating in trick-or-treating myself. Though I feel hesitant to call it charity, and I'm not really sure why. I suppose it's cause it's something so simple, something so routine, and charity is often hyped up as a big thing. So calling the simplicity of trick-or-treating charity seems antithetical to charity. But if i think about it, it is a kind of charity. It's something people don't have to do at all, they have no obligation to hand out candy at their doors, except for the good feelings it brings to do so. So yeah, in it's own small, spooky, unique way, I would consider Halloween a day of charity.
