Usually, I am super quick to make this kind of announcement. I guess I have learned to not be boastful. So the announcement is that I have been given a second chance by God to fulfill one of my biggest dreams. In less than a month, I will be starting my second journey in grad school. This month I will be starting my PhD program in History at Claremont Graduate University. And while due to COVID-19 my classes this first semester will be online, in January 2021 I will be moving cross-country to Claremont, California (30 minutes east of LA). I never in my life thought that one day I would be moving to California, but God’s plans are infinitely better than mine. So, soon I will start an adventure of a lifetime, and I could not be happier. Had a pretty intense day today. Met with one of my dissertation committee members to discuss a book on the application of a trans-Atlantic African narrative into the small Delta community that I am studying. I was nervous because I didn’t have a seminar room to discuss this book and flush out questions with my classmates. I had a lot of emotional turmoil about moving back in with my parents (at age 27, when I’ve lived independently since I was 22) to finish my dissertation, but let me just say... I didn’t realize how much I’d been hamstrung by financial insecurity until I just plain don’t have to worry? Like I just printed off 10 pages of something from the home computer because I need to annotate it... and I didn’t have to count my change to make sure i could afford the copies, I just... hit print????

Nothing to see here, just a PhD candidate trying to read books and having a breakdown instead. Oh, and waiting for a phone call to schedule an ADHD evaluation because apparently “being Gifted” can cover a whole lot of crap up until you’re in your mid-20s.
