In relevance to the media, the satanic panic movement consisted of fear-mongerjng against satanic ritual, or supposed cases of satanic rituals that were never truly followed up on. It was more prominent in the 80s/90s, and of course, whatever media you were to consume could sometime establish your image as a “satanist” or someone as dark and evil. Case and point: The West Memphis 3 case.
Of course the satanic panic craze died down a bit, and honestly, has really never became a great public fear again, which is a bit surprising, as it seems even artists nowadays, like Doja, seemingly “plaster” satanic messages & symbolism within their music. This has been circulating for the past three months, but with the release of her new music video for her single “Paint the town red”, it has really set rumors ablaze. And honestly, I don’t care.
Well, that may be a tiny white lie seeing as I am writing about it, but in a way I do care. As in I really enjoyed the visuals and artwork she incorporated within the video. I mean, I know she is trying to rebrand herself, but the video still seems pretty “on brand”. And I really enjoy it.
I don’t exactly agree with the recent decisions Doja has made in her life, or a lot of what she says. At the end of the day though, she’s a celebrity. Not my personal friend, not a family member, or even some crazy hopeless person in need of help on the street. She is not my responsibly. I don’t think of her 24/7. I enjoy the art she creates, and artists trashing their old work is nothing new. I don’t necessarily agree with her opinion though.
And that’s the thing,
You don’t have to agree with her. She is her own person.
And the satanic imagery and lifestyle she has chosen is a part of that. I believe the reactions to her new look are reminiscent OF the satanic panic era! It’s honestly insane, especially with all the old school celebrity Illuminati videos constantly circling little pieces of evidence in correlation to satanism or satanic imagery. In a way, I figured people would be de sensitized to this stuff by now, but I guess not.
