post season 2 jesse and petra from my "season 3" called hit the road! this is technically a wip i abandoned, but since i found it fully colored i decided to post it cuz i usually post unshaded pics anyways. it was supposed to be fully rendered with a background, but i took a break from it and since then i had changed their designs, have plans to change the designs of their weapons, and even altered petra's hair color a bit (you might notice in this pic her hair is brighter orange than in my most recent ones). there was just too many changes so i thought it'd be easier to just give it up and draw a new picture one day. but here it is as a treat cuz who knows when y'all will get another drawing from me 💀

CHAPTER 6: Just Do
Back on the tarmac Bradley and Maverick were quickly surrounded by everyone cheering for their miraculous return. The mustached pilot couldn't climb out of the crumbling fighter jet fast enough. He could hear someone asking if he needed a medic, Phoenix was already yelling for one. Bradley had never been so happy to be on a carrier.
“Rooster, do you realize how unbelievably reckless and stupid that was right?” Phoenix scolds him but then she pulls him into a hug, her frown line eases into a relieved smile “Glad you're okay.”
“Thanks, Phe.” Bradley spots Warlock and Cyclone watching everything from the tower. He doesn't think he's ever seen Cyclone crack a smile before.
"Well shit," the familiar drawl shouted over all the commotion. "You're alive."
"I guess I should thank you for that. You got yourself another kill."
"That makes two." Jake's grin shines proudly
"Mav has five, that makes him an ace." Phoenix chimes in "You did good, Bagman."
At the mention of his godfather's name, Bradley searched for him among the sea of khaki and green.
"Captain Mitchell!" He pushes his way over to where Mav was "Captain Mitchell, Sir I-"
Maverick pulled the taller pilot into a tight hug before he could say another word.
"Thanks for saving my life."
"Is what my dad would've done." Bradley returned the hug "Thanks for saving mine."
Mav chuckles "I had a promise to keep." he gives his nephew another
✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️
Baby B must've known Bradley was coming back today, she wouldn't stop moving. She had been very active the last few days. You stood on the pier with your Aunt and other families waiting for their loved ones to disembark from the ship. Diane was glaring at anyone who came within five feet of you.
"Are you sure Jake didn't get his overprotective genes from you?"
"I'll be damned if we make it to the end of the most stressful week of my life, only for you to get sick because someone-“ Diane glared at the woman to your right “doesn’t know the meaning of personal space.”
"We're fine, I promise."
"I know Honey, I'm just being cautious. I don't wanna get back home tomorrow and get another call like that. I want you to be okay." She pulls you into a side hug "And worrying comes with the job when you're a mom- even a Godmom. So let me do my job damn it."
"Ma'am, yes ma'am." You playfully salute
The first group started to disembark, and you and your Aunt waited patiently to spot a familiar face. Hearing small choruses of young children greeting their parents after being separated made you smile. Baby B pushes against the hand you had resting on your stomach.
"There they are, I see them!" Diane points
Your eyes land on Bradley first, he’s already scanning over the collection of people to find you. Once he does, whatever conversation he's having with Jake and Phoenix escapes him and he keeps his eyes on you as he moves his way through the crowd.
“Welcome ba-” Bradley dropped his bag to the ground so he could hold you in both arms as he kissed you. The two of you easily let the world around you disappear and get lost in each other.
Payback speaks up first "Jesus Christ, don't you two need to breathe?"
"Yeah, you saw each like two days ago." Jake snapped his fingers in your face, Bradley turned away so his back faced Jake.
"Whoa, check out the rock!" Coyote announces
Someone grabs your left hand. You break away from Bradley to watch Phoenix examine your engagement ring with an approving nod.
"You got good taste, Rooster.” She jerks her head in Jake's direction “Guess this means you and Hangman are gonna be part of the same big, happy family."
Bradley shrugs "He's not my first choice, but he's alright."
"Just alright?" Jake scoffs "Fine, last time I'll save your life."
Bradley tensed slightly when you turned in his arms to gawk at Jake. "You did what?"
You don't see Bradley shaking his head while your back is turned.
“She was gonna find out eventually. Y/N-" Jake notices the way you nervously mess with the ring on your finger, and Bradley’s hand resting gently on your belly.
"A few of us were celebrating the mission, and had some drinks." Jake squeezed Bradley’s shoulder. "Someone got a little buzzed and almost fell down a flight of stairs. I caught him before he could, no need to thank me."
"Roo! Baby, what were you thinking? You need to be more careful." You held his arm tightly
Bradley nodded, relieved. "You're right, it won't happen again, Angel. Thanks, Hangman."
"Don't mention it, we're family now. Right?" The blonde pilot shoots Bradley a smile that hinted they would revisit the topic later. Diane, who had been speaking with Coyote and Fanboy, picked up on the silent conversation Jake and Bradley were having.
"Are you two coming to The Hard Deck later?" Bob asks you and Bradley
"Actually," you smiled at your fiancé "Bradley and I have other plans."
"We do?" The confused wrinkle between his eyebrows became more prominent when you nod
"Jesus fucking Christ, do you two take a break?" Jake winced when his mother smacked his shoulder
"Not that, Stupid." You rolled your eyes.
"What's going on, Angel?"
“Well, Aunt Di got in touch with an old friend of hers who’s an officiant. He agreed to marry us today- if you still want.”
Bradley chuckled in disbelief "You're serious, Angel? You sure you don’t want a big wedding, we have time to plan it now.”
You shook your head "I don't want a big wedding. Just you, me, a little backyard ceremony, and a few close friends. I know a few naval aviators who love a good party."
"Could I invite my girlfriend? She loves weddings." Bob asks nonchalantly. Seven pairs of surprised eyes land on him, but Bob just thinks he said something wrong "Unless you just want close friends."
"You have a girlfriend?" Jake questions
Bob nods "Yeah, she's still at work right now, I was gonna surprise-"
Phoenix puts a hand up to keep Bob from saying anything else "Before we get distracted. Bradshaw, are you getting married today or not?"
All eyes return to Bradley.
He nods with a gentle smile. "Let's go get married."
"Hell yeah!" Coyote cheers and claps Bradley on the back.
“Do you want us to change first?” Fanboy asks you gesturing to his service khakis
“Y’all don’t have to get dressed up for us.”
Diane interjects “But yes, y’all can change before comin’ to the house. I expect everyone to be there within the next hour. Let’s get movin’ people!”
"You ready, Roo?" You looked at Bradley, he was searching the crowd.
"Yeah, Angel I just-" he paused, locking his eyes on someone you couldn't see around the people "I gotta-"
Phoenix pats Bradley's shoulder "I got him, you go ahead."
Diane is ushering you and Bradley toward the parking lot before you can ask who they are talking about.
****
You were getting ready in your room while Bradley got dressed in the guest room. On the other side of the door, you could hear Diane giving orders to Jake and Javy to make sure everything was tidy before people started to show up and to keep their greedy fingers away from the cake.
There's a small knock on the door and your Aunt pokes her head in.
"You almost ready Sweetheart?"
"Almost, I just finished with my hair." You watched her sidestep into the room, nudging the door close with her hip, a pale green box in her hands. "What's that?"
"I had something a little special made for you Honey." She carefully placed the box in your lap, opened the lid, and pulled out what was inside.
You gasp softly, seeing the bundle of white roses and pink lilies tied together with white satin ribbon.
"This-" You choked back tears "Is this my mom's bouquet?"
"I showed a florist a photo, he recreated it perfectly. I figured it could be your 'something old and new' at the same time." Diane sighed thoughtfully, "I know how much they would've wanted to be here – Oh Sweetheart, your makeup."
You sniffle, gently wiping at your eyes "Sorry."
"It's alright, we can fix it." Diane jumped up to grab tissues from the vanity, dabbing away at your eyes.
"Auntie this means so much to me." You cried harder
"Stop crying, you're gonna make me- oh dammit." She grabbed more tissues
"Hey Mom," Jake knocks before he pushes the door open slightly. "Oh you're both crying.. I'll come back later."
"J.J. get in here, close the door." Diane reaches for his hand, squeezing it when he walks over “What is it?”
“The officiant is here.”
“Oh, that’s great! I’ll be right back.” Your aunt kisses the top of your head before she sprints for the door “Help your sister with her makeup.”
Jake stood next to you, “Your mascara is running.”
“No shit.” you half laugh “Hold this.” You hand him the bouquet and the box while you turn back to your mirror. “How’s Roo doin’?”
Jake shrugs “Was I supposed to check on him?”
“It would’ve been nice if you did. It also would’ve been a good time to apologize to him.”
"I did."
You paused, staring him down in the mirror "You said 'I'm sorry'? Those words exactly?"
"Close enough, he didn't toss me off the carrier. What, does he want me to apologize?"
"No, I want you to stop being a child and say you're sorry for being such a dick.”
“Fine, I’ll apologize after the wedding, but that counts as my gift to both of you. Anything else you want from me? My inheritance, a kidney maybe?”
“Well I was gonna ask you to walk me down the aisle, but since the apology is my gift-” you reply smugly, retwisting your mascara close.
“Whoa whoa- what?” He blinked, dumbfounded. "Y-you want me to walk you down the aisle?" You nod and Jake stares at you in disbelief for a moment then gives you a warm smile. “I’d be honored.”
There’s a rapid knock at the door "If the bride is ready, your groom is about to shake out of his socks!" Javy shouted from the other side
“Is everyone here already?” you checked the time on your phone.
“Bob and his girlfriend just got here, the only one missing is- Oh shit never mind, Phoenix and Mav are here now!”
“Okay, I’m coming!”
Coyote repeats that you are ready to start with the others, and you hear shuffling and footsteps rushing through the house. You toed off your fuzzy socks and used your brother’s shoulder to balance yourself while you slipped your flats on.
“Did Javy say that Mav is here?”
“Yeah, we’ll fill you in later. You’re wearing flats?”
“You try standing around in heels when you’re five months pregnant.” you took the bouquet from his hands "How do I look?" You spin around, your dress swishing softly around your legs
Jake gives you a single nod "You look great."
"Pit check." You lift both your arms
"No stains."
"Teeth?"
"Lipstick and food free."
"Any cliffhangers?" You tilt your head back and point to your nose
"All clear, but you look like you inhaled a few of Rooster’s mustache hairs. My god, it's like a forest up there."
"No, it doesn't, Jerk." You swat him away
He laughed, “That's the last one.”
"Thank you. Alright, let’s go."
Jake led you out to your living room, the couch had been moved and a few chairs added to the space.
There’s a trail of flower petals that starts in the kitchen and goes toward the backyard.  Jake signals for them to start then extends his arm for you to take. Coyote starts playing Andate, Andate by ABBA on your bluetooth speaker. You stood at the end of the aisle, the doorway of your kitchen, eyes focusing on Bradley, dressed in white linen pants and a white Hawaiian shirt with red hibiscus on it,  waiting for you at the other end.
“Let’s get you over there before he chickens out.” You don't let your smile drop, but you pinched the inside of Jake's arm. He winces slightly. "That was my last one."
Your eyes never left each other as you made your way to him, just the two of you in your own little bubble. As quickly as everything was put together, it didn't feel rushed. You meant it when you told him that you didn't need a huge wedding, just Bradley.
Once you're within reach, Bradley’s hand is waiting to take yours. Jake goes to stand next to your aunt.
"Hey, handsome." You whisper
"Hi," He smiles softly, "You look beautiful."
"This old thing? I just threw it on."
The officiant in front of you cleared his throat, gaining your attention.
He gives a short speech about, one: how quickly and efficiently you all were able to get here and two: how he'd never seen two people, so in love that they'd get married just a few days after they got engaged.
"Bradley mentioned that he has a few words he'd like to say." He gestured to your fiancé,  who nodded and took a breath.
"Angel, I know I joke about how we do everything out of order, and that we never stick to a plan no matter how hard we try. But sometimes the best things happen when you don't plan for it. I didn't plan on meeting you, saying 'I love you' for the first time over a crappy video call while I was stuck in the middle of the ocean, or even getting married right after getting off a carrier. But I get being with you made me realize- every moment I share with you is the right one." He continues, "I promise to love and respect you. I promise to come back home to you, and I promise that every time our plans go off course, I'll be right there with you, embracing the chaos."
“Oh, Roo-” You look at the officiant “Can I say something too?”
“By all means.”
"Bradley, when I met you- the second time, I was a wreck hiding behind a smile, and you were patient with me. You never got upset when I shut down, and you never held anything against me. You gave me the time I needed to trust you completely, and genuinely and you showed me how I deserved to be loved. I'm so happy I tapped you out that day because, looking back, I realized that was the day I stopped feeling so- alone." You took a deep breath, keeping your tears at bay for as long as you could. "You call me 'Angel' because you said I swooped in and saved you, but you're the one always protecting me. I love you so much Roo, and I promise to always trust you and love you and to be here for you the same way you're always here for me. And I can't wait to be your wife and have this family with you- and I'm gonna stop before I cry and ruin my makeup again." You sniffle. Bradley reaches and carefully wipes away a rogue tear rolling down your cheek.
“If there any objections, as to why these two should not be married, speak now or forever hold your peace.” there’s a short silence. You were practically bouncing on the balls of your feet, ready for the next words out of his mouth "I now pronounce you man and wife, you may kiss the bride."
Bradley’s hands gently cradled your face, you stood on your toes to crash your lips to his.

I’ve been working on this off and on since September 2021! I see a lot of cross-stitch versions of video game sprites and I thought “I wonder how it would look to stitch a walk-cycle together” and the answer is: IT WORKS!
I picked Sam & Max’s walk cycle from Hit the Road because I figured if I was going to be staring at a cross stitch for a million years it might as well be characters I wanna look at over and over and over again.

If I had a nickel for every time Bill Farmer voiced a character with incredible ingenuity and a frequent usage of slapstick and gags, who traipses the U.S. at some point in his career, encounters a Bigfoot, and also has a complicated relationship with someone named Max, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird that it’s happened twice.

Hit The Road
Chapter Eleven
previous chapter next chapter
Summary: You are a hunter of supernatural beings who is forced to experience a new reality: being a vampire. The only thing stronger than your thirst for blood is your thirst for revenge.
Author's note: the characters mentioned here were created by Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec, based on the book series of the same name by author L. J. Smith. They don't belong to me. That said, this fanfic will be short. This fanfic may address scenes of violence, inappropriate language and adult content. Minors should not interact with this story. Also some information here is not in the order of the series or the same way it happened in the tv series. I'm changing some things to fit the fanfic story. Hope you like it!

So much time without remembering anything made your perception of what is real or not become strange. You slept with the man who killed you, almost died for the man you almost killed, and are being hunted by the clan you called family. You spend the whole way back to the Salvatore mansion thinking about it. You knock on the door waiting for someone to open it for you. You're ready to reveal that you finally know everything. Or almost so.
"Y/N, Stefan and Damon left to look for you an hour or so ago. Are you okay?" Elena is in front of me, relieved to see me. To think that she is almost a stranger. Even so she is happy to see you.
"Thanks for your concern, I just needed some time. The fresh air is good, right?" You speak softly trying to be gentle with her.
"Want to keep me company? I'm putting some of my stuff in Damon's room." This sentence pierces you like a sharp needle.
“Are you two…” You can’t get the word out that you want to say, maybe you’re in denial.
"We're giving each other a chance. I know it can't be easy knowing that knowing you and him had a past." Does she notice that talking about it casually doesn't it make it easier?
"The past is the past. I actually came to get my things. I'm going back to where I never should have left." You speak directly and then head towards the guest room where your things are. Some memories start to come back to you about how your history with the Salvatores was repeating itself. You came to kill one of them and ended up falling in love even without your memories. Before you get sentimental, you put everything you own back into the backpack you brought. Then you go towards the front door of the house, coming face to face with Stefan.
"Going somewhere?" Stefan asks curiously as he notices that you have all your things with you.
"My time as a guest here is up. It was good while it lasted but I think it's best to leave." You say, avoiding looking at him. You don't want to talk about your memories coming back so you think it's better not to mention anything about it.
"What's going on? Why this change all of a sudden?" He looks at you with that same sweet look you once fell in love with. But now when he approaches, you fear relive the pain of death. So when Stefan tried to touch you, you jumped back.
"It turns out I don't belong here, I don't want to be a nuisance. So I'm leaving." You say, passing with your things next to Stefan, towards the exit of the mansion.
"You remembered, didn't you?" Stefan asks holding the door as you are leaving.
"Stefan, I need to go. It's what's best for all of us." You say facing him, from a safe distance. As much as you want to get closer, you can't.
"It won't be the best for me. Being away from you would never be pleasant for me." Stefan says honestly, you feel a little nervous. As much as your heart wants to go to him, your mind doesn't allows.
"Live with it. You had a life before me and you'll have one after I'm not here." Being rude might help him get away from you. Right now you feel a little like Damon.
"I can't force you to stay but I need you to know that I want you here. With us." He speaks as if he silently accepts the fact that you also have a relationship with Damon.
"It wasn't our destiny to be together. Neither of us." You see Stefan get a little teary. So you drop your backpack on the floor and walk towards him. Your fingers wipe away his tears and you kiss him. A goodbye kiss. You know you won't see him again. So you kiss him with all your willpower. His arms hold your waist tightly, and you allow yourself to lose yourself in his arms. But the memory of him killing you came to your mind which made you push Stefan away.
"I'll miss you." Stefan says as soon as you walk away. You don't turn back, you move forward without even thinking twice. The path to the cabin is quick given the fact that you are a vampire now. But you didn't expect to get there and see Damon at the entrance.
"So you remembered everything?" Damon says as you approach, trying to enter the cabin without success.
"Get out of here, Damon. You should be with your girlfriend and not here." You speak aggressively, maybe it's jealousy or just a normal reaction to Damon's presence.
"I didn't think you'd come back. I thought it was better if you didn't remember things." He's trying to justify not telling me about my own history sooner.
"Fuck you. Fuck your lame excuse for hiding things from me. If you think me remembering something will make me like you again. You're confusing me with some doppelganger." He seems to have confirmed that you are back to being the same as before. His scoundrel smile is so familiar to you.
"I wish I could kiss you right now." He doesn't seem to take you seriously as he smiles.
"And ruin your chances with Elena? Never. You think you're a man above all else but you're nothing more than a boy who likes to have his whims fulfilled." You point your finger in the middle of Damon's chest. As if accusing him of something.
"If you think that about me, why did you fall in love with me? Why, even with no memory, did you come after me?" He approaches you, looking at you as if he was about to kiss you.
To be continued...

When Rooster Met Angel
The ceremony was long. Longer than your graduation from college, longer than waiting for your hair to dry at the salon, and longer than any Harry Potter marathon you could imagine. And that's including the Fantastic Beasts movies. But you loved your brother and wouldn't be here for any other reason. You were happy that he graduated top of his class at Top Gun, and was considered one of the best. However, they could at least provide snacks if they're gonna make you sit for this long.
"Do you see J.J.?" Your Godmother asks you then points to the group of naval pilots, all dressed in the same white uniform "Oh, there he is!"
You squint behind your shades "Aunt Di, that's a woman."
"Is it?"
After another hour or so they started the tap-out process. You just about skipped when you approached Jake, standing stiff as a statue and waiting to be tapped out by you or your aunt.
"Well well well, I almost didn't recognize you J.J. I've never seen you this quiet before." You wiggled your fingers in your brother's face. "I'm not touchin' you."
Jake fought back the smart remark he had and kept his eyes forward. "There's so much you missed J- where to start, I met this guy- his name is Sean. He's so cute, but not like movie star cute, he's more like a boy band cute. Y'know what I mean."
"Oh, you know that new Superman versus Batman movie, they kill Superman. Can you believe that! The best one they’ve had since Smallville and they kill him off!"
You catch the flash of annoyance in his eye and laugh. "What's the matter J.J., cat got ya tongue?"
"Y/N, stop messin' with your brother." Diane  tapped her son's shoulder "Congratulations J.J., your father would be so proud, just like me."
"Thanks, Ma." Jake smiled and pulled the two of you in for a hug before putting you in a headlock."Y/N, been a while. Is that a new shade of ugly you're wearing?"
“Let me go or I’ll key your truck!" You attempted to kick his leg from under him, we're that didn't work, you reached up and pinched him under his arm.
"Ow! Put those fuckin' claws away!"
“Can the two of you act like adults for ten minutes?” Diane pulled Jake’s arm from around your neck and stood between the two of you.
“She started it.”
You stuck your tongue out.
"Stop it, both of you or you're paying for your own dinner tonight."
"Whoa, Mom- let's not be irrational."
"Yeah, what he said. I'm a struggling artist." You pout, Jake scoffs
"Strugglin' artist my ass, you work for the largest advertising company in Texas?"
"And staying at the top of my game is a struggle. They don't show just anyone's advertisements during the Superbowl y'know."
Jake rolls his eyes this time as if he wasn't the main one bragging about his little sister's commercial being on national television.
"Before we go through your list of accomplishments, can we eat? I'm starving." Jake began to steer you toward the parking lot then someone started calling out.
"Hangman!"
Jake paused and looked around for the voice, spotting the person waving him down.
"Who's that?" You ask
"That's Coyote."
"Is that his real name?" Diane's nose scrunched disapprovingly "And who's Hangman?"
Jake and Diane kept walking towards the small group of pilots waving him over, you lingered back looking at the tall, handsome aviator standing by himself. He looked straight ahead, jaw and fists clenched tight. You looked around the tarmac, most of the aviators had already been dismissed and were walking off with their families. Except for him.
There was a clenching feeling in your chest watching him stand there alone. Would it have been against protocol if you tapped him out, but if no one else did who would? Your feet were already moving in his direction before you could finish your thought.
He didn't seem that tall from a distance but when you got closer you realized how much taller he was. Even in the heels you regret wearing, he was still about five or six inches taller than you.
"Hi," you whispered, as if he couldn't see you standing in front of him "I'm not sure if I'm allowed to do this but-" You tapped him on his shoulder "At ease, soldier."
He didn't move but he cracked a smile "I'm technically not a soldier."
"I know that, but that's what they say in all the movies. Can you move if I tap you out?"
He shrugged, keeping his eyes forward "Not sure, this is the first time I've ever been tapped out by an angel before."
"Well, consider yourself lucky-" Your eye catches his name tag pinned to his chest "Lieutenant Bradshaw."
His eyes dropped down to you. "Do all the angels look like you?"
"Nope, I'm one of a kind." You flashed a smile
"Then I am very lucky- for once."
There goes that clenching feeling in your chest again.
"Thank you. You didn't have to tap me out."
"Don't mention it." You smiled and extended your hand. When his hand met with yours, you swore you felt a tingle run up the length of your arm until that clenching feeling in your chest disappeared.
"So do you go around tapping random people on their shoulders?"
"It's fun, you should try it."
You hear your name, followed by a familiar sharp whistle. 'The Dinner Whistle' you and Jake called it. Diane would use it to let you know dinner was ready. Only this time your brother was the one using it.
"I gotta go. Dinner plans." It was only when you heard your name again that you realized neither of you had moved. You reluctantly pull your hand away. "See you around- Lieutenant."
He nods, turning slightly to watch you walk over to your family. He grimaced when he saw Jake throw his arm around your shoulders.
Three Years Ago…
Fun Times at The Hard Deck
"When did you forget the definition of personal space?" You push Jake away from your side, where he had ultimately decided he would be since entering The Hard Deck.
It was your first time going out since- well everything. Since the horrible 'break-up' with your now ex-boyfriend, Sean.
Reflecting back on the whole thing, you could see the red flags waving in your face. The lack of interest in doing anything together, the backhanded compliments “I like it when you straighten your hair, it looks more manageable.”, and the constant accusations that you and Jake were “way too close” to only be considered siblings.
And after your miscarriage, you were in desperate need of a change. So when your job decided to expand, and they announced that they were looking for executives to transfer to California, you practically swan-dived for the opportunity to leave.
So, after a few pre-game shots and a pep talk in your bathroom mirror, you finally took your brother up on his offer to join him and Coyote at The Hard Deck.
"Listen these guys are only here for one thing and I'll be damned if my little sister gets taken advantage of by some-"
"Sea men?"
Jake cringes "Please don't."
"Coyote, can you please keep him away from me?" You poke out your bottom lip, hopeful that the other aviator would come to your aid
"Nope, I have three younger sisters, I wouldn't let them out of my sight if they were here. Plus Hangman is like my brother, so therefore you are now my sister too."
"I didn't ask for the first one, why would I want another?"
Coyote threw his head back and laughed. He did become like a second brother to you over these last few years. And would often be a mediator for you and Jake, you were sure he was becoming Diane's favorite at this point.
As the night progressed Jake eventually eased up on being your guard dog, especially when he caught the attention of this girl at the bar. After that, a few guys came to talk to you but none of them truly knew how to hold a conversation beyond themselves.
The current guy, doused in cheap cologne and way too much hair gel, and kept looking down at your chest. You could barely get a word in with him. If you could you would tell him that you weren’t interested and that he had mustard on the corner of his mouth.
"So do you maybe wanna get out of here?"
"Yeah sure, I live on the corner of 'Not Even' and 'In Your Dreams'."
Coyote chuckled, watching the guy at his sights on someone else "You are brutal. I've never heard that one before."
"You know you don't have to babysit me the whole night. I can take care of myself." You told him
"I know, but I was serious before, you remind me of my sisters, and I don't play around when it comes to them."
"Aw thanks, Coyote. I'm gonna get a refill, you want another?"
"Nah, I'm good." He assures you
Weaving through the small crowd of people you stop just a few feet from the bar when you spot a bright floral shirt in the corner of your eye. The mustached pilot sat at the bar, tapping his fingers to the music and occasionally taking a drink from his beer.
There's the same familiar tightening in your chest when you notice the wrinkle between his brow and the far-off gaze in those sad brown eyes.
You snuck up behind him and tapped him on his shoulder.
"At ease- pilot."
Bradley turned in his seat, his eyes lighting up when he realized it was you. "You're here?"
"Last time I checked." You giggled "What's with the frown? I thought all naval pilots were cocky and full of themselves."
"You're hanging around the wrong pilots." He stood, blocking your view of the other side of the bar "What are you doing here?"
"Well, it's a bar on a Friday night, Lieutenant. People come here to drink, listen to some music, win a game of pool or two."
"Does Hangman know you're here?"
Your nod "It'd be odd if he didn't, he invited me. He's been trying to get me out the house for the longest. You didn't answer my question though."
"Hm?"
"What's got you upset?" you gestured to his face “I thought I’d be the saddest person here tonight.”
Bradley’s eyes examine your face more “You don’t look sad.”
“Looks can be deceiving, Lieutenant.” you laugh nervously as you realize what you said. “Sorry, that was… I'm gonna-”
“Do you wanna get out here? With me.”
The question catches you by surprise but you end up smiling “Just let me tell my friend."
Bradley nods and you hurry back to where you left Coyote. He was talking with two other pilots when you pulled him away.
“What’s up?”
“I’m gonna head out.”
He nods “You okay?”
“Yeah, my social battery is drained. I’ll text you two when I’m home.”
Javy gives you a thumbs-up before returning to his conversation. You met up with Bradley at the entrance, he held the door open for you.
"Such a gentleman. Thank you-" you smile, a little embarrassed "I don't know your first name."
"It's Bradley." He tells you
"Bradley Bradshaw?" You cover your mouth with your hand to hide your smile "Sorry, I'm not making fun of you."
"Just my name."
"No, no it's cute. So where to, Bradley?"
"Do you have any place in mind?” he asks walking alongside you toward the parking lot
You shrug “I don’t know, this is my first night out since I moved here.”
Bradley hummed, and then one of his eyebrows twitched "Do you like movies?"
✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️✈️
You were expecting an old black-and-white movie from the thirties, not Mamma Mia. Bradley brought you to a movie in the park, but instead of going down to the actual park, the two of you were sitting on a bench that overlooked the park. The people, lounging on their blankets and chairs, all had on headphones while the movie continued to play silently for them.
"I didn't know they were doing headphones." He confesses, "We can go down and see if they have tickets left."
You giggle "It's fine, I probably know all the words anyway. My mom played ABBA a lot when I was a kid. She probably would've loved this movie as much as I do."
Bradley picks up on the change in your voice and how you talk about your mom in the past tense.
"What happened, if you don't mind me asking."
"My parents died in a car accident when I was eight. Drunk driver." You explained casually
"I'm sorry." Bradley stretched his arm along the back of the bench
You shook your head "I don't wanna bring down the mood. What about you? What's your family like?"
Bradley chuckled "Well my dad was a Top Gun pilot, like me. He died when I was- two? Three? Training accident. And my mom passed away from cancer after I graduated high school."
"Oh! Shit, I didn't- I shouldn't have said anything." You groaned and buried your face in your hands "I'm gonna shut up now."
He shook his head "How about we change topics altogether?" He smiles when you nod, keeping your hand glued to your face.
The two of you go back and forth between talking and singing along with the movie. You were pleasantly surprised by Bradley’s singing voice and by Bradley overall. He was so sweet and funny and, familial trauma aside, the two of you had a lot in common.
"Rooster? How did you end up with Rooster as your callsign? You're not a morning person are you because if you are then this isn't gonna work out."
He grins at you, moving in closer "And what is this exactly?"
You saw his eyes flicker down to your lips, and your heartbeat jumped to your throat. You feel yourself leaning in, only to stop when your brain begins listing off warning signs.
The last time you felt like this you ended up stuck in a dead-end relationship.
Sean was sweet in the beginning- we saw how that turned out.
Didn't Jake say- you forgot to text him and tell him you were okay.
The intrusive thoughts pulled you back to reality. The movie was over, everyone had left the park, you had no idea what time it was and the constant buzzing your phone was making in your back pocket finally got your attention.
You backed away from Bradley, scooting to the other end of the bench, taking out your phone. It was after one in the morning, and you had a handful of missed calls, and twice as many texts, from your brother and Coyote
"Shit, I didn't realize how late it was." Your phone started ringing again, Jake's name and contact picture popping up on the screen "I gotta take this."
Bradley nods, his eyes following you as you stand and answer your phone.
"Don't freak out."
'Don't freak out? Coyote said you left hours ago.' Jake shouts 'Where the hell are you? Are you okay?'
"Everything's fine, Jake." You glance over to Bradley, the wrinkle between his eyes is back and his jaw clenched "I came home and fell asleep, I'm fine."
There's a pause on his end 'You sure you're alright? You sound-'
"Tired J.J., that's all."
'Alright, I'll talk to you later. And don't scare Javy like that again, I need my wingman.'
"Love you too, g'night." Your shoulders relax when you hang up "Sorry, that was-"
"Hangman." Bradley finishes for you, standing to his feet
"Yeah, you know Jake?"
"He's an asshole."
You huffed out a laugh, you'd often hear several people refer to your brother as an asshole, you were one of them. But you always meant it jokingly. Bradley wasn't joking.
"He can be a jerk sometimes but-"
Bradley shook his head "He brought you to the bar and started hitting on other girls. He didn't even notice you were gone for hours. You shouldn't be with someone who's gonna treat you like a second thought!"
You blink "Bradley, do you think Jake and I are dating?"
"You're- you’re not?"
There was a short moment of silence before you started laughing. Not a small, cutesy one you would use with Sean, this was loud and genuine. Bradley stared- confused and mesmerized by your laugh.
"Jake’s my brother." You said between giggles
Bradley’s mouth opened and closed repeatedly before his brain caught up."He's your brother?"
“His parents are my godparents, they adopted me after my mom and dad died. We're best friends even if he won't admit it."
You watched the redness spread across Bradley’s face. “I’m an idiot.”
“At least you’re a cute idiot. Wait, you thought I had a boyfriend and still asked me to leave with you?”
Bradley scratches the back of his neck “You said you were sad. I thought I was helping.”
“You did, that’s the hardest I’ve laughed in months.” you sighed happily "Thank you, I really needed this."
"It's my absolute pleasure. Can I see you again? Maybe watch a movie we can actually hear."
"Bradley, I-"
"You can call me, Rooster." He gently corrects you, Sean was never nice about 'correcting' you.
"Rooster, I'm gonna be honest with you. I just got out of a really bad relationship. And I don't think dating is gonna be a priority for me for a while."
Bradley nods understandingly "I waited this long before I got to see you again Angel, I can wait a little longer for you."
Another hard thump hits you in your chest "You waited all this time to see me again?"
"Not in a creepy way, I-" Bradley combed his hand through his hair "You kinda swooped in and saved me that day. I should've asked you out then, but I have this bad habit of waiting for the right moment."
"Like a rooster waiting for the sunrise?"
"Something like that.” The shy smile that spreads on his face makes him look younger and you swear you could hear your heart beating in your ears.
“It wouldn’t be a date date. And I can’t promise that it’ll lead to anything more.”
He nods again “As long as I can get you to smile like that again, it’s a win for me, Angel.”

iran filmleri sinemanın başına gelmiş en iyi şeylerden biri <3
müziklerle iç içe geçen duygular, bozkır yolları, koyunlu gölet, arka planda kuşlarla birlikte nehirde konuşan baba, canım çocuk ve çiçekli pijamaları, canım deyar, dağlar, yemyeşil çayırlar…
o kadar güzeldi ki :’)
