Alley With A View, Chapter 1
Getting in the spooky season mood with a murder mystery fic this year.
Title: Alley With a View, Chapter 1
Fandom: 911
Pairing: eventual Buddie.
Fic summary:
Laid up, Buck picks up people watching from his balcony out of boredom because his leg is encased in a cast for another week. His neighbors are varied, from the composer to the dancer to the newlyweds and the not-so-newlyweds.
One night, he witnesses something he isn’t supposed to. With Eddie’s help and a slight assist from Carla and Athena, they take on a murder mystery and connect the clues to solve a crime. (Or a 911 Spooky season version of Rear Window in which Buck isn’t a Hitchcock blonde and Eddie’s no femme fatale)
Tags/warnings: murder mystery. Based upon Rear Window, the classic Hitchcock movie. Suspense. Set post truck bombing. Pining. Angst.
Tumblr media
It starts innocently enough out of sheer boredom.
Stuck in his apartment with strict instructions to keep his leg elevated for hours, there is only so much a previously healthy and active male can do to keep himself busy, and Buck isn't much of a TV watcher at the best of times and… well other activities were considered too 'vigorous.'
Usually, he'd be out and about.
Instead, he is stuck at home in his new ultra-modern apartment, bum leg propped up and bored out of his mind. He and Wikipedia are on a break at the moment as he'd overdid it just a bit too much reading about crush injuries and types of bone fractures.
So, while he is staring in boredom out the windows of his apartment, he notices a few things that generally would have been completely off his radar…

baffled at how 1990s keeps winning "best decade for fashion" polls like is it just bc more people on here are old enough to remember it? bc if you ask me it's very obvious that the best decades of the 20th century for fashion were the 1900s, the 1950s and the 1970s

Hitchcock's Blondes: The Unforgettable Women Behind the Legendary Director's Dark Obsession by Laurence Leamer #ARCReview #NetGalley #BookReview #HollywoodHistory
A new book travels familiar territory: #AlfredHitchcock obsession with blonde actresses. A closer look at #HitchcocksBlondes by #LaurenceLeamer #netgalley #arcreview #bookreview #gpputnam #moviehistory #gracekelly #ingridbergman #bargainsleuth
Alfred Hitchcock was fixated—not just on the dark, twisty stories that became his hallmark, but also by the blond actresses who starred in many of his iconic movies. The director of North by Northwest , Rear Window , and other classic films didn’t much care if they wore wigs, got their hair coloring out of a bottle, or were the rarest human specimen—a natural blonde—as long as they shone with a…

Propaganda
Shima Iwashita (Goben no Tsubaki)—Shima Iwashita was THE leading lady of Shochiku (one of the 3 major movie studios in Japan) for over 16 years, including the entirety of 1960s. She's been two-time winner of the Blue Ribbon Awards for Best Actress and the winner of the Japanese Academy Award of actress in a leading role in 1977. Famously known in Japan as the actress best suited to wearing kimono, Iwashita often played elegant, strong-willed, and sometimes vengeful female characters. She is particularly adept at portraying women's independence and self-reliance, as well as their delicate inner feelings, and has portrayed a number of sentimental and individualistic women in her many period and contemporary dramas. Her talent was discovered by Yasujirō Ozu, one of the world's greatest filmmakers, who told Shochiku executives at the time, "She is an exceptional talent who comes along only once in a decade." Ozu cast her as the female lead in his final film An Autumn Afternoon before he died of cancer in 1963. Now at the age of 83, she is as beautiful as ever.
Grace Kelly (Rear Window, High Society, Dial M for Murder)—The literal princess of Hollywood (she retired at 26 to become princess of Monaco), her name said everything about why she was so hot. She carried herself with a grace and elegance you just don't see anymore. Her voice was sultry without being overbearing, and she had the ability to be sweet but suggest a deep sensuality at all times.
This is round 4 of the tournament. All other polls in this bracket can be found here. Please reblog with further support of your beloved hot sexy vintage woman.
[additional propaganda submitted under the cut.]

flawlessly beautiful and a literal princess
Her facial structure? Flawless. Her eyes? Stunning. Her hair? Gorgeous. Her style? Immaculate. Every second she’s on screen, she just exudes this elegance and sophistication. It’s no wonder she ended up marrying a prince. But she’s got this mischief in her eyes that is compelling.
Tumblr media
She was so elegant, so beautiful and perfect I could cry for real. A fairy disguised as a woman.
the most beautiful of Hitchcock's "icy blondes". elegant, glamorous, she left hollywood to became an actual princess, I mean, COME ON
Tumblr media
she's so pretty and refined and elegant! I'm pretty sure taylor swift's blonde hair red lip look is modeled partly after her
She's just so elegant, look at her all dressed up like a Barbie doll in the latest fashions. There's a quiet dignity about her.
Tumblr media
Not only was she princess of Monaco she also is Stéphanie de Monaco's mother and yeah, vote for her she's soooo pretty That red dress in Dial M.... hot damn
To me, she is the first and only blonde. She earned it. Paired with Edith Head's costume design she is unstoppable. I dare anyone to watch her as Lisa Carol Fremont in Rear Window and not be completely blown away by her hotness.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
SHE IS SO PRETTY AND FASHIONABLE!! Not only that but she has an alluring aura to her in whatever film I've seen her in! Rear Window is just one of my personal favorite films she was in, especially for her costumes in that. And how many actresses can you say was a princess consort in addition to being a famous leading lady?

It's been a week since the discovery of Jason Blossom's body. But his death is not the first, nor would it be the last casualty that the town of Riverdale would suffer. The Twilight Drive-In where I work, my home away from home, a piece of town history, is closing for good, just when we needed a place to escape to the most. With Sheriff Keller knocking on every door and neighbor suspecting neighbor, Riverdale, every day that passes, is becoming more like Salem during the witch trials. And meanwhile, the girl next door, our friendly neighborhood Hitchcock blonde, Betty Cooper, was wrestling with the knowledge that her best friend, Archie Andrews, was caught up in a forbidden romance. [...] "Dear Diary, Sheriff Keller doesn't know what I know, that Riverdale High's music teacher, Geraldine Grundy, was at Sweetwater River the morning Jason Blossom went missing, and that since Archie was also there, they could have been there together." [...] "Dear Diary, love makes you do crazy things, and maybe some of what I did was wrong, but maybe… Maybe I was right about some things, too. Maybe Ms. Grundy was dangerous in some way. Tomorrow morning, when we wake up, the world will, yet again, be changed."

William Hootkins in the 2000s
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 2001 William Hootkins worked with Director Peter Chelsom for the third time in the comedy Town & Country starring Warren Beatty and Diane Keaton.
Tumblr media
He also appeared in vampire movie The Breed in 2001.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In January 2002, he appeared in TV Movie The Magnificent Ambersons.

These photos are from the Screening of The Magnificent Ambersons. Notice the difference in height between William Hootkins and James Cromwell. Hootkins was a foot shorter. 5'7" vs 6'7".
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 2004 Hootkins was in Blessed, a supernatural Horror Thriller starring Heather Graham. Filmed in Romania, November 2003.
Tumblr media
William Hootkins was in an episode of The West Wing as a translator. Hootkins learned Mandarin at Princeton University and that is what most likely got him this job but he was never shown speaking Mandarin or even got a close-up. This episode was shown in December 2004, one month before he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I don't know when it was filmed but he must've been dealing with symptoms (pain, jaundice, worsening diabetes) at the time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
William Hootkins made 3 appearances on film in 2005. He was diagnosed with Pancreatic Cancer in January and passed away in October. There was the comedy film Dear Wendy that was shown at the Sundance Film Festival in January 2005 but it was filmed in late 2003. There was an episode of Absolute Power starring Stephen Fry that aired in August 2005. I don't have photos of these two. The last credit is from Colour Me Kubrick (photos above) which was shown in France at the Dinard Festival of British Cinema in October 2005, however this was filmed in early 2004. So his last appearance on film was either on the TV shows The West Wing or Absolute Power.

In 2003, William Hootkins played Alfred Hitchcock in Hitchcock Blonde in the London Theatre to great acclaim. Hootkins worked hard for this role learning Hitchcock's mannerisms and accent. There were plans to bring the production to Broadway in 2005 where he would've been eligible to win a Tony Award. This never happened once he was diagnosed with Cancer.
