Blameless Phos?

I had a conversation with my only friend that actually reads HnK and he hates Phos a lot and blames him for causing a lot of the things that went down during the post-Ghost arc. Especially the latest chapter where he cursed Phos for causing Rutile to end up the way she is now.

As a Phos stan, my immediate reaction was to be of anger and go on the defensive but over time, I feel like I know where he was coming from. And he’s not alone. I’ve heard amidst a lot of the love for Phos, there’s been a few haters that despised Phos for being ‘dumb’ and making bad decisions.

And for the most part, I get it. Phos made a lot of mistakes along the way to getting where he is now. Losing Ghost was definitely his fault. And the fact he single-handedly tore up the Earth gem community wasn’t smart and he definitely didn’t think it through at all. 

But here is where I defend Phos for all his shortcomings. He meant well. He really really really did. Losing Antarc changed Phos to become someone who would always protect others like how Antarc did. Not a lot of people give Phos credit for sacrificing himself for Cairngorm’s arm, a fact that even Cairngorm has forgotten. The fact that Phos became the ONLY person to actively seek out all the gems that were lost to the Lunarians. Phos was the ONLY one who really cared about Cinnabar at first when no one did. 

And finally, give Phos a damn break already. Half his mind is intoxicated with Lapis’ devious mind. Re-reading the old chapters made me realized that the Phos we know was really lost on the very day Lapis’ head was attached on Phos.

So in conclusion, Phos isn’t blameless, as much as it hurts to say. But I rather stand by the side of someone who means well and actively wants to help than those who rather stand and do nothing at all.

So,,,chapter 82 huh

At this point though I almost kind of think Phos having to be repaired again and losing more memories could either be really good or really fucking bad. Because if they lose memories of the past 200 years, there’s a chance that they’ll change their mind abt everything (literally killing all the earth gems ect.) but if they lose the memories they had with those earth gems (like if they start to forget about Cinnabar or Antarc or any of the Earth gems who they cared about) things could go uhh...really bad.

Also I’m curious to see if Lapis is still giving them any guidance at all, or if they got lost too in the pieces that fell off. Speaking of, all that phosphophylite that’s still buried on Earth? Yeah uhm phos is the only one who knows it’s there, I could see goshen maybe wanting to get it but who knows.

Oh and Padparadscha let’s talk about them for a second. They straight up ditched them which I was like huh okay cool. And then I cried because pads deserves so much better then this. There’s hope too if rutile fixes them and gets them to tell the truth about Phos’s plan, but it won’t be helpful if Phos zooms back to earth and starts killing gems with no explanation cause if they lose memories in the bad way, that is 100% their next move.

Also when can I fucking see Cinnabar I miss my baby and I am offended at the lack of Shinsha content please ichikawa.
