To be honest, the scene in s3e2 Mass in Time of War where Marcia is brought back in and is able to demand whatever she wants for herself and her children if she's to play a quiet and obedient wife is killer, and
this is the reason I feel Shiv is nowhere near "trapped" with Tom if she doesn't want to be.
Yes, in their relationship she has done many horrible things and honestly has been worse to him than vice versa. She lied to his face countless times, ranging from her cheating, her goals, how much she was willing to do to make sure he would be in a good position, keeping him safe, etc. She only ever budged on things when Tom was really over emotional to the point she felt their relationship itself was threatened.
despite this, if she were to leave his ass quickly after the show's finale, while she was still pregnant and grieving, I cannot imagine a way that wouldn't look HORRIBLE on Tom. We are told, you know, Logan being found out cheating with Sally Anne was a scandal, and Marcia being estranged was also a big threat to his image especially in a tumultuous+ time. Shiv has the power to make Tom look pretty bad, to the public.
Like, he just took over her father's company out from underneath her and her bothers, so if they're going to announce a separation or divorce from either side... from Tom it looks cold and cruel, and from Shiv it looks like she's trying to get away from him, god what monster he must be if she's leaving him now of all times. not to mention the prenup apparently was not very good on his side of things, and while he is rich at this point, he has not been the CEO for more than a day and has nowhere near the wealth the Roys do.
Anyway, though, it just paints a very ugly picture in the press, i think, especially after That election. It would probably negatively effect Waystar itself, with him as CEO, so she may or may not want that depending on how attached she feels knowing it was her father's legacy. and, again, it would be a very victimizing position to put herself into which she might not be willing to do. but. She could.
