It all starts probably a year into Lando's... extracurricular activities... and Lando had been with Lewis the night before. He's outside the Merc garage, playing with Roscoe when George spots him, looks around to check there's no one really paying them attention and as Lando's bent over to reach Roscoe he slaps him on the arse

Lando jumps and turns around, ready to snap at whoever it was and George just smirks at him. He throws his arm around his in a friendly way as more people start to appear, but pulls him close and murmurs that he and Alex are looking forward to later and he's missed Lando on his knees

Neither of them see Toto coming and Lando jokes a little too loud (but luckily only George and Toto actually hear) "To be fair I do look good down there"

George laughs and kisses his cheek, says "Yeah? Have you been on your knees enough to know that?"

"You know I have" and it's cheeky, even cheekier when he add on, "To be honest I'd get down for Toto if he asked nicely"

Toto having overheard all of this backs away before either of them see him, but he's stuck thinking about how pretty Lando would look on his knees

The race happens and Lando had a really good drive, he even almost beat George, and Alex does well too, so the three of them are in for a lovely night when they finish at the track. It's late and Alex has gone back to the hotel first because he 'has a surprise', and Lando goes to collect George under the guise of a late dinner. That's when Toto crooks a finger at him and asks if he can have a little chat

Lando goes willingly, not sure what it could be about, but then it's Toto asking him - "That's what you said isn't it? If I asked nicely?"

Daniel is consistently the main character because unlike 98% of everyone else on the grid he actually has a likeable personality, also we know he has a higher ceiling of talent than a lot of these other hoes involved in silly season, sure mclaren hasn’t really shown that but deep down we know he’s capable of drives like China 2018 etc, the frenchies had a lot of luck in their (only) wins, nyck spent like 10,000 years in feeder series, I don’t watch f2 but surely sargeant would be better off with another year there, hulk and gio have had their chances. piastri is the only one imo that *potentially* has a higher ceiling but even then he’s fucked his chances at getting an alpine seat later, and he’d have to compete against max/charles/george/lando in their own teams if he wants a wdc with rb/Ferrari/merc/mclaren

Say Mercedes wasn't an option and George didn't want another season with Williams, what options do you think there could be?

I think the issue with that: Would any other team have space for George?

Because if we look at the situation for 2022 there were the following seats up for (real discussion)

Valtteri's, Checo's, Yuki's, Antonio's, Alonso's (?) and Nicky and his own. I know people made silly season out to be so much bigger, but essentially it was these seats ( I know there was a rumour about Seb but that was just him not wanting to talk to Sky sports Germany blown out of proportion)

I know there was a short moment where Horner pretended they were interested in George (and if George wasn't such a huge hoe for Merc and Lewis maybe it would be), but I think that was more to force Toto's hand. I don't think George would have fit with Alpha Tauri for similar reasons. Alfa is sticking in the same back of midfield towards back markers kind of area the Williams was in and George knew the team and his teammate, so I don't think that either. Alonso maybe if he didn't go for 2022 which was also his plan (I'm suspecting they were planning this with Oscar staying in F2 a year longer just like Toto had been planning with George back in the day).

Would he have fit well with another team? Yeah sure, but I don't think there would have been a real vacancy for him anywhere. George is a pretty adaptable driver, interested in engineering enough to be an asset to any team. Just all teams that would have been worth it (i.e. Merc, Red Bull, Ferrari and maybe McLaren) had their driver lineups either already save, or (@ Ferrari) already have too many drivers for the seat anyway.

Unfortunately, if Mercedes wasn't an option, as much as it hurts, he'd have had to look for solutions outside, just like when he almost didn't have a seat for the 2019 season and almost went to go do DTM.

You waited on the couch in George's driver's room, and excitedly squealed as you swiped past so many encouraging words, posts and just the total outpouring of love your man was receiving online.

When you looked up at the tv that was on, he was still smiling ear to ear as he finished up the last of his media duties after the last race of the year. This was it. It was on to bigger and better.

He'd finally done it.

He'd finally made it to Mercedes.

You honestly teared up every time you thought of it. From your first conversation, which had been surprisingly deep and trapped you straight from the expression of his passion, to now... It was just amazing to see someone so talented and so devoted achieve his dreams.

You sighed and dabbed at your eyes just as the door knob started to turn. When George got a foot in the door, you sprung to your feet and launched yourself at him, excitedly laughing into his ear as he lifted you off your feet and laughed with you.

"Did you watch me?"

"You did so great!" You praised as you squeezed him close, "So, so good. What a way to finish."

You smiled at him as he put you down so he could sit on the couch. You plopped down next to him and took his hand in yours as he crossed his leg over his knee.

"Yeah, yeah, I'm happy with the result today."

"Babe, M'not a reporter," you leaned in with a sly look on your face, "you can be excited to be done here."

George leaned his head back and softly smiled as he stared off into space for a moment. With that far away look in his eye, he spoke, "M'not- well, I-I am," he looked at you and rubbed your hand with his thumb, "I'm happy to have done it, although I will miss this team, and everything I've done with them and everything they've done for m-me."

He cleared his throat and tilted his head back so he could look up. You encouragingly squeezed his hand. He squeezed back.

"It's just, fuck-" his voice trembled and he took a deep breath before he let out a wet laugh, "it's surreal, you know? I've done it." He wiped his eyes with his free hand, "I've done it."

"You did it." you repeated to him as you let go of his hand to hug him. "You've done just like we all knew you would."
