uh maybe an odd one but there's this anime called Holmes of Kyoto and the character is called Holmes by people bc he's a lot like him but... with antiques instead of murders. actually there's a lot of crime. and a Moriarty guy. it's really fascinating (albeit with a romantic interest in Watson's place but yknow it's not an exact adaptation). anyway yeah I'd like to submit him. fascinating guy, I want to study him like a bug

Anime of the day: Kyoto Teramachi Sanjou no Holmes

Alt Title: Holmes of Kyoto

Released: 2018

Tucked away in Kyoto’s Teramachi Sanjou shopping district is an antiques shop. The owner is Kiyotaka. He is regarded as the Holmes of Teramachi Sanjou, and much like Sherlock Holmes, Kiyotaka often solves people's problems, but he doesn’t do it alone anymore. Aoi, a high schooler, ends up, after a strange turn of events, working part-time at Kiyotaka’s shop. Over time these two will solve problems, have tea, and grow closer.

My rankings of Sherlock Holmes inspired media by how Sherlockian they are. As in not shows about Holmes but shows but shows with leads inspired by Holmes.

Law and Order: Criminal Intent - Criminal Intent is probably the greatest American detective show ever made and lead Bobby Goran is truly on Holmes' level of weirdness and empathy. He also has the best Irene Adler inspired nemesis out of the bunch.

Holmes of Kyoto - Holmes of Kyoto reimagines the Sherlock Holmes premise to the Japanese art world but retains a lot of what makes the original interesting.

Lord El Melloi’s Case Files - While an interesting take on a fantasy world Sherlock Holmes, Waver and his assistant are too tied to greater Fate franchise to really be too much like Holmes and Watson.

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation - CSI season one was apparently supposed to be modeled on Holmes lore but despite it's focus on empirical evidence Grisham is much too unique to really qualify as a Sherlock based character

Case Closed - While Case Closed really enjoys trying to call itself a Sherlock Holmes inspired story, It takes most of it's inspiration from the Agatha Christie style of detective fiction.

This one is difficult because I do appreciate each and every single one of them. But here:

1. Desperate revival (NO QUESTION. HANDS DOWN THE BEST ARC IN THE WHOLE MANGA. NOTHING COMES EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE)

2. Murderer: Shinichi kudo (I'm talking manga. The anime adaptation was a lil lacking BUT GOSH. I remember being SHOCKED when I first read this. It was intense. I loved every second of it. And Shinichi's appearance was stellar. He was very chaotic and feral acting as the shiragami. And when he took off the wig and kicked the gun out of fake shinichi's hands I was on the floor)

3. The Great detective of the West (a classic! We need this one up there! It's the first time we get to see him after tropical land and he also meets the one to later become his best buddy forever)

4. Kyoto Arc (Love it! Don't get me wrong! But I was mostly just invested in his dynamic with everyone rather than the whole picture, you know? I was watching for Shinichi reasons only, the case was a little eeehhh.... 🤷)

5. Holmes' Revelation (Again! Love it. Buuuut. I mostly only cared about his confession and nothing else tbh hahahaha)

Throughout the whole walk to the train-station, Shinichi has talked you ear off. Not that you minded at all, you always liked it when your brother would gush to you about his favorite topics or retelling the cases he recently had solved.

The only expectation would be the topic of Sherlock Holmes, which could be a bit tedious to listen to, since it’s mostly a sort of repeat.

Whenever Shinichi, at some point, would stop midsentence to check if you indeed are listening to him, all you would give him was a smile which he mirrors in return and then he simply continues with his talking.

It wasn’t like Shinichi wouldn’t let you talk about the many things you had to tell or what was on your mind, at all. But sometimes there were days where you would just stay quiet and listen. A mutual understanding.

You couldn’t really help it, around your brother you felt the most happiest—at ease and safe. He was your anchor, one of the few people you trusted the most. So really, you couldn’t help it, but to have a recurring smile present on your lips.

“So, will I ever be meeting that boyfriend of yours?” asked Shinichi teasingly, still curious about the person, who seemed to have captured your heart and was making you even more cheerful than you already were.

“Eventually, but not today. I don’t need you two to get into a heated argument,” you said while making one of your many hand gestures and gave Shinichi your bag, so he could carry the last bit of the way.

Shinichi hummed, right, besides the basic information, you’ve also told him that he shares a few common traits with your boyfriend; those would be, stubborn, headstrong, arrogant and smug—you didn’t elaborate about it at all, and apparently they had the same interest of hobbies.

Once you had reached the parking lot, you had taken your bag from your brother again. You searched in the crowd of people for your boyfriend and once you saw his Cap and waving hand, you waved back.

Shinichi had tried his best to take a look at your boyfriend. Effortlessly, all he could see was an baseball-cap and that he was tanned. So much for finally solving that mystery, hah.

You turned to your brother, taking his hand in yours and gave it a small squeeze. Once your brother has returned that squeeze, you only grabbed his pinky afterwards. It was your personal way of telling each other goodbye, whenever one of you would be gone for the whole night or more than just a few days.

“You call me when you’re home, right? Shin-chan?”

“Shouldn’t I be saying that you baby-boo?”

You both had your mother to blame for these, almost terrible, nicknames she loved to use for you both. At some point during your middle school years, you began to use them, in a lovely manner, against each other.

“Honestly [Name], you’re the one who goes on a trip to Kyoto, with a Boyfriend I haven’t met, where I’m just going to an amusement park. So I should be the worried one” Shinichi chuckled a bit, the younger one worries about the older one. Unbelievable.

Shinichi ruffles your hair, giving you an smile and nudged you a bit forward,

“Off you go and I promise, like I always do, to give you either a call or a SMS.” and once Shinichi had said that, with a dramatic pose of holding both his hands up, to give you that promise, you walked away.

Ignoring the nauseating cramps which pulled through your stomach. You should have hold his hand longer, gotten a lingering fear that this was the last time you would see your brother at all.

The sun had already set, painting the sky into a dark orange and reddish hue. Heiji and you had almost reached Kyoto, you already could see the many City lights—which reminded of the stars above. Heiji drove past the city and into its outskirts, stopping at a forest.

“Didn’t you tell me about a nice dinner in Kyoto and some sightseeing?” asked you, shouldering the bags more evenly as you walked deeper into the forest. Heiji grinned at you, one of those mischief grins of his.

“I did, but thats gonna be tomorrow, for tonight I have an surprise for ya, even far better than sightseeing,”

You sucked in a breath, putting your glasses onto your head and shut your eyes as tightly as you could. You rubbed over your face, massaging your temples. Trying anything to get that headache away. To make it subsiding.

The throbbing pain just got worse with any minute and by now, as you saw white dots and your vision blurry, you knew it was one of those stronger migraines.

You swayed a bit from left to right, the bags falling from your shoulder. Nothing seemed to be real, only surreal. Heiji was getting blurrier, till he looked like a smudge of paint in your, hazy be like, vision.

You closed your eyes again, feeling weightless all of sudden.

Heiji had managed to catch you. Having you in his arms, Heiji sat down, holding you close. Your face scrunched up in pain, even while unconscious and Heiji tried to ease the pain, somehow.

Slowly and gentle he drove his fingers through your hair, soothing you. This was one of the, rarer, stronger migraines you had, Heiji could tell. It had given him quite the scare a bit, as he saw you stumbling backwards and how ghostly pale you’ve gotten.

It wasn’t long till you stirred awake. Opening your eyes you blinked a few times and rubbed them, trying to get your vision to be clear again. You looked at Heiji, who smiled softly at you and seemed relieved.

“Hey, my prince, how yer feeling? Got me worried there for a bit,”

“mm s’ ‘orry……it’sh all good…” you mumbled out, speech a bit slurred. Besides the slight throbbing, which would still linger around for some mere hours, you were feeling alright.

“Yer crying.” it wasn’t a question, it was a statement and Heiji was just as confused about it as you. You didn’t know why you were crying in the first place. Besides the migraine, there wasn’t a reason to. You swatted Heiji's hand away from your face, wanting to wipe those tears off yourself.

“Not sure about that, I do feel a bit chilly tho, but that's it. Anyways let us get going, wanna see that surprise,”

And a surprise it was. You have seen about, approximal, three forest lakes before and they all had their own kind of beauty to share. Though this lake, somehow, seemed by far the most beautiful one. You couldn’t tell why, it was one of those feelings—of something aesthetically, which wasn’t to explain at all.

The clear night sky with its full moon would be enough of a natural light source. Yet you both had set up the flashlight you’ve brought. Giving the lake a sort of new dimension of illuminating. Perhaps for a bit of safety reason too,

You had to take a double take at your boyfriend. Not believing what he was doing. While you had laid the blanket out, Heiji had stripped all of his clothes off and jumped into the lake. The weather might have been pleasant, even with the beginning of autumn weeks ago—but the nights are gonna be fresh and chilly from now on, so taking a swim at night isn’t perhaps such a great idea. You suppose.

Sometimes, but only sometimes, could your boyfriend be such the dumbest shit when it comes to human sense. This was one of those moments and isn’t at the same time.

Heiji swam towards the edges, crossing his arms onto them and laying his head down. He grinned big, looking expectantly at you.

“C’mon [name]! The waters really nice,”

You turned your head away, fearing that if you would look any longer at him, you did succumb to his wishes. In the end, you too were a dumbass.

You took off your clothes, feeling shy about being naked—even when it wasn’t a first for you two, it surely was a whole different experience of being naked in a forest and maybe having sex in it too.

You wanted to step into the lake at your own pace, wanting to get acquainted with the waters temperature. Heiji thought otherwise, pulling you into the lake and the cold crashed over you and through your body. Once back at the surface, you were ready to tackle Heiji, because if he wanted to have a water fight, you ain’t backing down so easily.

You jerked awake, sitting up straight. Staring into the endless void of darkness which laid ahead of you. For a moment you felt lost in your surroundings.

Heijis jacket, which you had put on—after the many hours of love making, didn’t seem to bring much warmth anymore, once a cold breeze had grazed your naked skin. The forest itself seemed much more sublime than in the afternoon, and scarier than it should be.

Laying down again, when your body began to tremble on its own, you grabbed your phone. Flipping it open, squinting at its brightness, you checked for any new messages. None. Heiji moved, sneaking his arms around you again and pulling you towards him. Holding you close and grumbling something about going back to sleep.

Shinichi will surely send you messages soon. He had promised it after all. But little did you know, that there wouldn’t be any new messages from your brother to come.

Because he was gone, perhaps forever.
