The moonman or moon god who was gradually evolved from the earlier ideas of the moon as fertilizing influence, retained the functions and powers which had formerly been ascribed to the moon. Indeed he came into being, as it were, by a concentration of the rather diffuse power which the moon had before dispensed. This moonman or moon god became the one giver of growth and fertility. For instance, the king, who was the earthly representative of the moon, was usually the rainmaker, and if the harvests failed he would bear the blame, perhaps even pay for his failure with his life. The moon god also inherited the moon's powers of fertility in regard to animals and human beings, so that he was approached by childless women with gifts and prayers that he would remove their curse of sterility.
It will be recalled that among the most primitive tribes it was felt that women and animals could only bear young by the power of the moon, a feeling which was crystallized among certain tribes into the belief that the moon was the real husband of all women, who conceived not by human seed but by the impregnation of a moon ray. It is not surprising therefore that in religions where the moon god is worshipped we should find that a marriage ceremonial is celebrated between the women worshippers and the god or his human representative. At first this custom was carried out in the case of every ordinary marriage as a purely secular measure, a necessary proceeding to ensure that the marriage should be fruitful. The king or headman, as the impersonation of the moon, slept with the bride on the first night of the marriage. This custom survived in France into the middle ages in the Seigneur's right. A similar marriage ceremonial came to form the central rite of the woman's mysteries in many ancient religions. This is a hieros gamos, a sacred marriage or holy matrimony which was thought to be absolutely necessary, not only for the fertility of the women who took part in it, but also for the crops and herds of the community.
In many religions these "mysteries" were performed annually and constituted one of the chief religious festivals. They are the basis for many of the fertility rites which have been so often described in connection with antique religions, and they have survived in the Spring carnival which still takes place preceding Lent, for Lent and Easter are festivals associated with the moon. These rites are connected with the dying and resurrecting gods, who are moon gods, or are sons of the Moon Mother.
During these festivals it is reported that the women displayed an abandon and gross sensuality which did not represent their normal characters at all. The participators might be respectable members of the society in everyday life. But at the time of these rites it was their duty to indulge in the grossest sensuality in order to stimulate the fertilizing powers of the god. Obscene jests and actions were a part of this deliberate attempt to arouse the god, and the lasciviousness which was displayed was intended to excite the Heavenly Bridegroom to bestow his fertilizing powers abundantly on the tribe.
Briffault gives the reason for these customs in the following passage: "The explanation of the sensual and sexual character of [these] religious rites lies in the notion that every function of woman, whether as mother, as wife, as supplier of food, as cultivator of the soil, as sorceress, witch, prophetess, or priestess, postulates her union with the god who is the bestower of these powers. The indecency so conspicuous as a feature of all heathen religions has everywhere reference to that union, in some form or other, of women with divine beings. The union of men with goddesses plays virtually no part in those conceptions and practices. It is to women that the sacred marriage with the Divine Bridegroom is a functional necessity; men do not require to be united with a divine bride to fulfill their functions. But every religion, from the most primitive to the highest, is pervaded with the idea that union with a god, a hieros gamos, or "Holy Matrimony," is a necessity to every woman."

My brother got married this weekend and I just can't get over how the Byzantine Rite does their weddings. Their ceremony puts such an emphasis on devotion to Christ through matrimony. It really is a parallel to holy orders in that sense. I just - AHHHH!!!

“Well...look who’s finally joined us, dearest! Aren’t we the fools for keeping a schedule?” Tori’s stepmother sat at the breakfast table with James, but as far from his sniffling as possible. She scowled and stirred her tea in a way that felt sinister to Tori.
“Tori, my darling,” came her father’s bored drawl over the newsprint wall, “Please remind your be-loved mother the eye-tinerary of your little upcoming expedition? And remember, there’ll be much to do here when you return.”
“Two weeks from tomorrow, I’ll b-” Before Tori could fully answer her father, there was a clatter of silverware and the sound of a chair scraping the tile. James was on his feet.
“She’s gonna leave us!” he shouted. “And it’s both your fault!” Swiping at fresh tears, James ran from the atrium. His footsteps carried off down the hall.
Tori looked between the adults to see what they would do.
Her stepmother sipped her drink through pursed lips. “That boy must learn to run properly.”
With a shake of his head, her father flipped his newspaper back open. “We’ll see you in two weeks then, sweetest.” His fatherly affection came strained, as always these days, through the wet blanket that was her stepmother. “Do take care. ”

You once said “there is no wrong way to do girlhood” but what do you actually mean? The Bible and Christianity do present certain standards for men’s behavior and for women’s behavior, it doesn’t treat men and women as identical (ie women can’t be priests/pastors for example, cross dressing is generally sinful, etc). This is coming from someone who doesn’t quite fit the expectations of the stereotype of gender in modern culture by the way not from a place of some radical, I know Christianity is not so shallow as to say something like “men can’t be emotional/women can’t be brave” or something stupid like “men can’t like flowers/women can’t like sports” but Christianity also favors “traditional gender roles” and I have been simply confused for a long time..
Womanhood and Biblical womanhood are two different things. I also, for the record, generally see a difference between political statements and religious ones, because I do not like the idea of giving the government spiritual authority or allowing it to legislate morality. Making rules for a wide swath of people that don't necessarily conform to a single religion is tricky, and it's not the government's business.
Now, to answer you question: Biblically, yes, there are specific roles that men and women play, especially in marriage. But I don't believe that not perfectly fulfilling Biblical womanhood makes someone not a woman. At best 'woman' means someone who was created/designed to fulfil Biblical womanhood; the fact that many women are not does not make them less of women, and that's what my original comment was about: being a woman is not dependent on a person's behavior, inclinations, likes and dislikes, etc.
You mention the Bible having specific standards for men and women, and a lot of people, we both know, don't conform to those standards. But the Bible also has standards for human beings in general, and not conforming to those standards doesn't make us not human.
I could talk more about how I don't think the government should have as much authority as it does over marriage, but I'll leave my thoughts under a readmore since you didn't exactly ask those questions ;)
Thanks for the ask, I loved responding! If you have any more questions feel free to reach out, these are topics I love discussing :)
Marriage is a Judeo-Christian religious construct, with the specific role of foreshadowing/being a type of the relationship between Christ and the Church, and if it doesn't fulfil that purpose in all the ways outlined in the Bible, it should not be called marriage. Alas, the world has taken the word 'marriage' and I don't see the church gaining exclusive rights to it anytime soon, so I'm advocating for the idea of the church using the word 'holy matrimony' (as, with the word 'holy' in it, I don't see the government/politics picking it up anytime soon). So in that sense, you could be married (legally married, living together, having sex, raising children) without being bonded in holy matrimony (married by/in a church, being Christian, being an opposite-sex relationship, following Biblical gender roles, being faithful to each other, raising children the way the Bible instructs, not getting divorce except in the case of fornication, etc).
The government should have no say in who can and cannot get married (even when 'marriage' is a purely secular social construct). Any two people, regardless of gender, political or religious ideology, etc. should be able to sign a document for all the legal trappings of marriage, the only exceptions being in areas that the government has legitimate authority over, in this case, for example, minors and legal consent, etc.
I don't believe the government should ban gay marriage, because it's not the government's business. I don't believe there should be any legislation for or against marriage. Marriage is just a pre-written contract the government lets you sign to give both spouses some legal benefits (such as hospital visiting rights).
Holy matrimony, on the other hand, is wholly the church's business, and the church should (and should be legally able to) refuse to bond in holy matrimony any two individuals who do not plan to live up to God's design for it, being the expression of the union of Christ and the Church, and it should be acknowledged that, as holy matrimony is the expression of the union of Christ and the Church, God has final say over what is and is not holy matrimony.

He laid on the bed with his arm over his eyes. This was his sleeping position when his mind was alert and his body was tired. I knew him for no more than a day or two but I knew enough to know that he didn't know everything about me either. I was talking to his best friend. You know how best friends are they block you from seeing what they don't want you to see in the man that you could be dating. Then another female came over and I asked more like I told her who I was and told her what to do with him. Would he do it? Did he? No, he didn't he declined the offer and her that he was tired. She simply responded that she was instructed by his wife to ease his tension. When he found out that she had sent her in, he was done.
