I sincerely hope every artist gets to have the experience of falling in love with their art someday. even if you have to fight for it. i think we all deserve to look at the result of our creativity all giddy and go holy shit, I loved making this! I love the lines I put down and the colors I used and the indulgences I’ve taken. I love seeing things I liked and taking it for my own, pushing and molding and playing. I can’t wait to do it again

whenever i think i'm normal about the mario bros i have to remind myself that i frequently think about how luigi told mario to leave him behind to distract dimentio after they had just lost bowser and peach to similar duels with other members of the bleck crew, and mario hesitated for a good eight seconds, requiring further encouragement from luigi before finally agreeing and running ahead, and stopping for a moment to look back at luigi, and the fact that this is when the worlds are at the brink of complete and utter erasure from existence, and he has not stopped for anything up until this point, and yet here he is now, as though wondering even if for a moment if the worlds are truly worth his brother's potential demise but ultimately deciding to trust luigi and ensure the worlds don't lose both of their final saviours, yet still waits outside the doors of the room until either luigi emerges victorious, or he's forced to confirm that he will be unable to continue alongside them and has to continue without him and i realise yeah fuck i'm still insane about them.

#i was thinking about that moment in dream team where mario hesitates before using the ball hammer because he's worried about hurting luigi #(despite dreamy luigi being immune to damage) and it brought me back to this moment #like holy shit. okay. ok. #this man had to think 'okay yeah but is the world worth you?' for several seconds there #i do still wonder if mario saying the heroes were still alive was him genuinely knowing this in his heart or if he had to tell himself that #to keep himself moving forward #he cares and cares and cares what is the deal with this man #super paper mario

I've returned from the art hyperfixation trenches and I've brought with me an approximation of an excerpt of a crossover fic I've been formulating and obsessing over for what must be weeks now 😂😅

The idea of Chazz, Atticus, and Alexis getting somehow sucked into the Mushroom Kingdom the Paper Mario 64 layout specifically hence Lava Lava Island lol started out as a joke, but the thought of Chazz and Peach hanging out in Bowser's dungeon together becoming unlikely besties while they wait for their silly boyfriends to come rescue them made it not a joke anymore and now, here we are 🤭🤭

Of course the dialog is subject to change when I get around to actually writing the actual fic and this sequence happens in context, but I approximated the gist of what's going on at this point in the story 😅

working in research definitely gives people this sense of mystique about what you do, until they overhear you whingeing about how your new field (psychology) has way more salami slicing than your old field (neuroscience) and you have to give them a horror deep-dive into how academia works.

#to massively cut down my rant #'salami slicing' is where you deliberately cut what should be one single paper into several #and essentially publish the smallest fucking fragments you possibly can #this is so that you can artificially inflate your publication count when executives decide whether you're actually a worthwhile scientist #or if you should be tossed out for not publishing enough #this is because we are ranked almost exclusively on number of publications #so your job depends on pumping out as many as possible #even if they're dogshit or miniscule in scale #writing my first paper for my new job post-phd quit #and holy fucking shit #one author managed to cut what should have been a single paper down to 8 different ones #it's driving me mad #psychology #research #academia #science #i miss neuro so much :(
