Parasocial Butterflies

Hey there, LAPD Toon Division. Here's the "I don't have a preamble for pony" spiel again. I used it last time, I'm using it this time, I'll probably use it next time! It's a convenient formular, and we both know the preamble is just for me to stall for time anyway. It's just for the formatting! Blog wouldn't look good if I just smacked down the cover and began without so much as a "how do you do?"

Speaking of, here's the cover:

Ah, it's Pipp! Covers like this are in short supply. There's little to dislike here. No small complaints, that's for sure. Anyways, the cover looks sparklier than it is. Like, it really looks like it'd have a glittery texture. It's convincing, that's all I'm saying. Well, that's as little as I have to say on this one. Sorry this section's so short~

So we open with Pipp doing a livestream. Hey, can I rant about the technology for a minute? Like, I get the technology jump. Last Airbender had a big technology jump between series. Heck, in real life, we went from first airplane to landing on the moon in 60 years! Smartphones and such are weird and incongruous for me, but that's not the issue.

My problem is, why would ponies develop technology that relies on touch when they have hooves? Why would technology develop into touchscreens and keyboards for hooved creatures? Call me spoiled by other people's world-building--or even FiM's own--but I feel like they shoulda thought that one through a bit more instead of just defaulting to what the audience would recognise.

Anyways, Pipp's signing off a livestream, and mentions that she wants to do her next update as a text post, since it might be easier to relay her thoughts in that form. Well, that much I can relate to! She spends a long time writing up the whole situation regarding Discord and posts it. It gets some large responses, as you might expect. Doing the numbers, as they say. Golly, if I got even a quarter of her views... But I digress. Pipp gets to thinking: if this true piece of news relayed in a text post did so well, maybe she should continue?

She calls up her mother, the queen whose name I still haven't caught, and asks for her opinion. See, she was thinking about writing about the day she found out she couldn't fly. Her mom is a bit taken aback, because that day was really hard for Pipp, and it's very personal. Pipp agrees it's a bit different from her usual content, but she thinks it's important. Her mom replies that she can do as she likes, she's a grown mare, but she'll always have a place at home to return to if this doesn't go a way she likes. It's all very sweet and supportive. Some good mom-ing!

So Pipp writes up her next post. We don't get to see any of it, of course. But as she hovers over the "post" button... she hesitates. Maybe she needs a few other opinions. Good thing she has a few other friends she can ask. First she swings by Sunny, who is geared up to pull her smoothie cart around. Sunny, however, confesses that she's a bit too distracted by the whole Discord situation to think about anything else, like pull her smoothie cart around. She suggests asking Hitch, since he always has a grounded view of reality. Pipp thanks her anyway and flies off.

Hitch, however, is a bit distracted by trying to guide a couple other ponies to hang a banner in the town square. So with his attention divided, his opinion is that it sounds a bit off-brand from her usual posts. She sadly flies away, murmuring that sometimes a brand can change. Pipp then drops in on Izzy, who's doing some crafting. Pipp mentions she's thinking of crafting a post, and Izzy thinks it's a "brave" idea to speak out about her horrible, embarassing day. It's technically a positive answer, but it's not quite what Pipp wanted to hear.

Pipp returns home and goes to her last resort: her sister, Zipp. She explains the whole deal, and Zip considers it. She understands the heavy implications and what Pipp is trying to do: show folks that it's okay to scared and vulnerable. But even Zipp has some reservations. See, Zipp's not worried about it being "off-brand" necessarily, but whether it's a good idea to open up that much at all. Her online self's supposed to be a persona, yeah? You don't want to open up too much about your private life, or you get the parasocial folks. She just doesn't want Pipp to get hurt. But Pipp's feeling a bit hurt by this response anyway.

But if she's hurt anyway... what's the harm now? So with a steely determination, she posts her draft about her worst day. And... time goes by. Pipp is kind of perplexed. Her post regarding Discord made a hundred-thousand views in about 5 minutes. This one's been up a week now and hasn't even cracked four digits. It's not doing the numbers. Frustrated with the lack of response, she decides maybe just deleting the post would be best. But just as she moves the cursor to the delete button (another invention I don't think would benefit hooves: the computer mouse), she gets a new item in her inbox. What timing!

It's an email from a little unicorn filly named Felicity. She just moved to Maretime Bay, and was scared she wouldn't be able to make friends. So she decides to make things up. She tells her new friends about her life in Bridlewood, but none of it is true. Not her status as a princess, not her skydiving hobby, not her friends of sphinx and dragon, not the trees being made of cotton candy. And inevitably, her new friends found out. Some other pony went visiting Bridlewood on a family vacation, and comes back and spills the beans on poor Felicity.

So Felicity loses her friends. They weren't just angry, they were hurt she hadn't been truthful. Making friends is hard, but making friends and then losing them is harder. But it's then, while alone, that she found Pipp's post online. And here we do get to see a bit of Pipp's post, describing how she felt when everypony found out she'd been faking being able to fly all that time. So Felicity realises she's not the only pony who's ever lied because they were scared they wouldn't be accepted. But she also learned that you can work past that, just as Pipp did by making that post.

The note ends with a thank you, as well as Felicity apologising to her friend group and being welcomed back. So Pipp decides not to delete the post after all, regardless of its small view count. Instead, she makes a video post about her text post. A bit recursive, but okay. Essentially, she relays the message she learned: that she's a multifaceted individual, and she shouldn't be afraid to show all sides of herself. The sad, lonely Pipp and the bubbly, dancing Pipp are all still Pipp. And being authentically Pipp is enough~

Well, this issue’s pretty all right. Pipp’s problem is a relatable one, especially in this modern age. Felicity’s story in particular is very sweet. It’s an all right lesson, though I think Zipp’s fear of parasocialism and maintaining a distance between folks online also has merit. Ultimately, you gotta decided where you draw the line for yourself, and that can be hard to convey in a 20-page comic about talking horses for kids.

Other than that, though, the main problem with the issue is this: like, aren’t they on a time crunch? Literally a week goes by in the span of this issue. Sure hope Discord didn’t decide to permanently destroy magic while Pipp was fretting about her online presence! It’s ultimately fine, and I like the decision to show other things are going on while the main story percolates. I appreciate the attempt at not front-loading the series with a huge story arc. But, like, if you’re not advancing the story, it feels a bit like you’re faffing about. At least Zipp’s sidestory last issue took place only over a single day and had her proactively looking for Discord in the meanwhile. Once again proving she’s the better sister~

Hiya! Big fan, and I stumbled onto your MLP OC once again. Out of curiosity, what did you think of the season finale? O: Did you think Discord was well fleshed out after all or? Very curious of your thoughts :3

Oh god Discord... I don't think any other show than MLP was able to make me go from loving to absolutely hating my favorite character.

I did watch the entirety of G4 and I do think the series finale did the show justice, but I gotta say that Discord was probably at his best in the season 4 finale. After that he just became a nuisance, turned into a pop-culture-reference-machine for the writers to enjoy and annoying Twilight at every chance he could get DESPITE of the emotional climax we had at the end of Season 4.

It felt like he just kept learning the same lessons over and over again??? I was really hoping for a more serious approach in his character development. To be honest the COMICS did him more justice than the show, exploring his personal struggles with his own existence, believing he's only bound to hurt his friends because he's a "force of nature" that can't change. His biggest nightmare was his friends CARING about him for crying out loud, that was freaking heart-wreaking.

In said Issue, Luna tells him he's more than just "chaos", more than a force of nature. That he can allow himself to care about others and even be able to change.

And then the show kind of retconned that by making Discord start to FADE AWAY the moment he wasn't causing chaos anymore, which I just hATED because it implied to me that Discord isn't allowed to change and is actually bound to his existence as a chaos entity. THAT'S DEPRESSING AS HECK, let him CHANGE, let him find new ways for his chaotic magic, if he isn't chaotic in his personality then you can make his magic be weaker or make his home realm start to crumble, but don't just erase his entire EXISTENCE!

I don't know, I feel like we never got to see Discord the way he was portrayed in his Season 2 debut ever again. There was something cunning, all-knowing about him, a real trickster with blind spots of course in terms of relationships, underestimating how powerful connections between friends can actually be, since he's always been alone. At the start of season 4 we had a glimpse of that cunning personality again when he sowed his "plunderseeds" as a back-up plan, knowing that Celestia and Luna were about to defeat him. That's smart as heck!! Discord is a mischievous smart boi!! But as the seasons progressed I just watched him become more of a joke, and his jealously and downright panic the moment he isn't the center of attention anymore just turned him into an attention-seeking crybaby. There were just so many bETTER ways to handle his character, he is allowed to lose control, he's allowed to be jealous or be unable to handle social situations well, that's all okay if you ever got the feeling through the writing that he made an EFFORT to actually improve and learn from his mistakes! But he didn't. If, then he'd only try to change for Fluttershy, which ended up making him nearly fade away, which just, gREAT MESSAGING THERE GUYS. (I know that the point of this episode was to stop trying to be someone you're not, which is a good message, but in Discord's case was poorly executed with the implications it brought about his very being.) Otherwise he took every chance he could to make a fool of himself, get on Twilight's nerves, make her feel left out, never actually caring about growing closer to any of the mane 6 besides Fluttershy.

Which, by the way, biggest loss from never adapting anything from the comics? Discord befriends the CMCs in them, who seem to be the first ponies he can relate to, sharing the struggle of feeling like they don't really belong anywhere.

G O D I wish he had been given just a GLIMPSE of characterization some of the earlier comics gave him...

And his plan in the series finale to create a dangerous situation that would boost Twilights confidence was just SO UTTERLY IDIOTIC it felt out of character for him. Like he honestly thought bringing all previous villains together as a team was a good idea that couldn't go wrong??? You could argue that he once again underestimated the power of "fiendship" in this case, but still, it was an incredibly bad idea from the get-go.

I liked that the show tried to portray him as someone who wants to see Twilight grow, testing her and manipulating the situation still with the best intention in mind. But nOT LIKE THIS. His plans never felt smart but more like a sad excuse for his behavior of being a HUGE annoyance and inconvenience 24/7 before revealing his "true" intentions.

As you can tell, I still care about his characterization, because it's another case of seeing the potential the show could have taken with his character, the development and growth he could have gotten while still keeping his intelligence to the same level as when he was his old mischievous self, we could have been able to keep those parts intact. It all could have been possible.

Discord was a fan-favorite character and when he first debuted, NO ONE expected him to come back. Redeeming a villain was revolutionary back then. As far as I remember, no other cartoon besides ATLA with Zuko had taken this approach so far, so when it was announced he'd make a return in Season 3 to "get redeemed", the community went WILD. It's truly a shame how over the years I went from getting excited to instantly groaning the moment he came onscreen again. Because he had all the ingredients for a layered, fun, mischievous ally instead of becoming a comedic-relief who constantly screws up.

(Also, I'm not including move sets because in my headcannon Pokemon do remember all their old moves. But humans choose to only use four)

For this AU I'm having the Wayne's own the Gotham City Gym, which specializes in Dark types. Most of the cannon events still happened. Just with a few tweaks here and there. (Dick's 20, Jason's 16, Cass is 15 Tim's 15 but younger than Cass and Damian's 13 because I love AUs where there closer in age).

Anyway here we go!

First things first in the Pokemon Universe his alias wouldn't be Robin since they don't exist. Instead I think it would be Rookidee, since thats the closest Pokemon to a Robin.

His Partner Pokemon and ace would be a Gligar

Name: Goliath

Gender: Male

Why: Gligar screams Goliath (his Batdragon) plus the coloring of his evolutions matches with Dami's Robin and Batman outfits

Story: He found Goliath while climbing a mountain for his training. At the time he was four and Goliath was a hatching. Damian ended up giving him some food, seeing that the hatching was hungry.

Grateful, the Gligar followed him hoping to return the favor.

When Damian's hand got broken on that same trip, Goliath was the one to help him finish his mission and get home safely.

Talia was impressed that Damian could tame a wild Pokemon without catching it, so she allowed him to keep him as his first Pokemon.

Next he would have a Meowth

Name: Alfred

Gender: Female

Why: This one has to do with its evolution. Persian are said to only be loyal to trainers it likes and that it takes a lot to get them to like you. Their also said to be prissy and uptight. This reminded me of Damian. How it took forever for him to trust his brothers and his own snobby attitude. Thus I think it fits.

Story: After coming to live with his father Damian didn't know how to act. He saw his "brothers" and father treating their Pokemon so different than how the League did. They all trained hard. But, there was something eles: warm praise for a job well done, asking for insight on a case (they had taught their bipedal pokemon sighn language) and comfort on a bad day. His father and brothers treated their Pokemon like... people

In the League Pokemon where the lowest soldier, lower than the slaves or concubines. They trained, ate then they had to and got in their ball.

He had been a little more lenient in his training with Goliath. When asked he said that he was still a baby and he had to take things slow in this stage or he might develop too much muscle mass and be unable to fly.

He had kept him out of his ball with the excuse of developing muscle mass at a proper pace.

He liked Goliath's company. The Gligar was a good companion. But on the same level as another person?

He had expressed these thoughts to Pennyworth, the only person in the house to give him a straight answer when he needed it.

Pennyworth had explained to him that some people love to hold power over others and that Pokemon where an easy target, since they couldn't communicate their emotions as clearly as people could.

"Think of Mistress Cain. She sometimes cannot communicate with words, but we know that she's intelligent. But some people see her as less than intelligent and treat her as such because of the power it gives them."

Two weeks later Damian would come across a group of teenagers attempting to shave a Meowth. The Pokemon was little more than skin and bone and crying out on pain. So, Damian broke their fingers and shaved part of their heads for good measure.

He kept the Meowth and named her after the man who taught him about the abuse of power.

Next, a Poochyena

Name: Titus

Gender: Male

Why: These Pokemon and their evolution are ruthless with their pray, and only obey trainers with external skill.

Story: Raven gave Damian Titus as a gift. She said that she rescued him from an underground fighting ring (where the battles are to the death). He was still to young to battle so he didn't need much rehabilitation. The other Pokemon there though...

Now we have a Type Null

Name: Heretic

Gender: ???

Why: This Pokemon was created in lab, and artificial designed for the purpose of fighting, just like Damian. True I could have given him Mewtwo, but that cat seems to fit Kon more.

Story: Damian's mother had spent years creating Type: Null with the purpose of being able to kill any target. As a last test she wanted to see which of her creations was suppirrior. So she sent the Type Null out to (try and) kill her son.

Damian, with the rest of his team, beat the Pokemon but couldn't kill it. He had long since vowed to wash the blood from his hands. Instead he offered his hand to it and asked it to join him.

Here we have the hardest to explain... Mimikyu

Name: Habibi (I hope I spelled that right)

Gender: Female

Why: Damian is complex, he wants to be accepted and loved just like Mimikyu but dosent know how. Both try to mimic others in order to get that love, Damian his father and Mimikyu Pikachu. So I see this as Damian's spirit Pokemon in a way.

Story: He didn't know why it was so hard to fit in. Gods know he tried. But... little things confused him. Like how eveyone could understand each other without words or singhing. He had no problems with that on a battlefield, but in day to day life; it felt like he was on a separate server.

Like how Todd knew at breakfast with just a look that Drake was in a bad mood and how to help. Or how Grayson could audomadicly tell what kind of day at school the rest of them had withen a few minutes. Hell even Drake could tell what grunts ment what from father! Which ment good job, Which ment I'm glade your okay, or frustration either at them or at a case (Cass didn't surprise him, she had to learn how to communicate without words and watch body language and micro expressions).

School was no better; sometimes it was to load or bright othertimes, when everyone was doing a test, it felt to quiet. But, to much or to little, Damian was always aware of every movement, every sound. It was like the very instincts that saved his life every night where turned against him.

He turned to his nearly forgotten childhood habits to distract himself from everything around him. That only led to more whisper shouting and what even he could tell where displeased glares with a grunt of "fucking tapping" or a snap of "stop!" He knew it was disrupting but it was all be could do to drown out the noise or silence.

On one particularly bad day at school; apparently during one of their tests one of his classmates had had enough of Damian's tapping and decided to make a scene.

There was some yelling from the kid. A few cries in agreement. Before the teacher had gotten hem to settle down. He had demanded that Damian look him in the eye and when he finally did told him to stop with the tapping or else he would be sent to the office, Gym Leaders son or not.

He was the last to finish that test where he normally finished first. The silence had been to load!!

After that clusterfuck Damian finally headed home. He had texted Grayson saying that he was meeting a friend somewhere to work on a project and to not pick him up. In truth he didn't want his brother reading what kind of day he had had. He needed some time to himself.

That was how he found himself in a nearby park. It was filled with plenty of sounds that didn't suffocate him and the fall leaves where soothing to his eyes. Damian had Titus out of his ball as company, knowing that the pup loved park walks.

They had been walking for an hour when they came across a box set off just on the edge of the trail. "Free to Good Homes" was written on the side in black sharpie.

No sound was coming from inside, so he assumed that the had all been taken. Until Titus went closer sniffing at the seemingly empty box.

"Pooch Pooch"

"Hmmm... what is is it boy?" He asked as he walked closer to his Pokemon and the Box. Damian hoped he was wrong. It was cruel to leave a baby Pokemon all alone, especially since the weather was getting colder by the day.

Inside the box was in fact a lone Pokemon. At first glance it looked like a Pikachu. But something was off. It looked more like a doll than a living creature. If it wasn't for the small chirps it let out and slight way that it was shivering from the cold Damian would have written it off as a toy. No wonder it got left behind...

Damian reached down and picked up the mystery Pokemon as gently as he could.

"Come on beloved, lets go home."

He tucked the Pokemon in his jacket to warm it up before reaching for his phone to call Grayson for a ride home.

That night Damian locked himself away, even skipped patrol, and spent a sleepless night learning everything he could about his newest Pokemon.

Finaly, for his last spot Eevee!!

Name: Omni

Gender: Female

Why: I'm going to have all the Batfam members have an Eeveelution. This branch and the Batfam are both growing consistently. We all have our favorites but we love them all the same. So I think it fits.

Story: Everyone in the family had an Eevee or one of its evolutions. Damian's Father said that Eevee was the Wayne family symbol, it was potential, the ability to become whatever you wanted.

Though it surprised Damian that the Wayne symbol wasn't a Noibat or Noivern (Batman's ace) at first he eventually understood the logic in choosing such a Pokemon to represent the family name. That only made things harder for him being the only one not having one. Did they not truly see him as family?

On the one year anniversary of Damian arriving at The Mannor, his family through a small party. Pennyworth made his favorite foods, The Mannor was decorated in tacky streamers (Graysons' idea) and they watched some of Damian's favorite fims, their Pokemon curled up with them. His father had offered to take the day off from the gym. Until Todd suggested that Damian take on the challengers.

The Gotham gym was part of his heritage. Damian had been training for the day that he could finally help weed out the weak challengers just like his siblings sometimes did (think the battles you do before challenging a gym leader in the games).

On that day, if the challengers agreed to it, their final battle wasn't with Bruce Wayne the Dark Knight but instead his son. Most accepted thinking that it would be an easy win, that they had lucked out in not having to battle one of the stongest Gym Leaders in the League and could still get the Shadow Badge.

Those poor fools.

Damian was only allowed to use Alfred, Titus and Habibi since he used Goliath and Heretic primarily as Rookidee.

Damian fought seven trainers that day in 3v3 fights. Only two of them got the badge.

With the day overwith and the night rising, so did Gothams' protecters.

The night ended with exhausted body's and adrenaline crashes. Damian was ready to slip into a mini coma from the day he had but before he could head upstairs to The Mannor...

"Not so fast baby bat." Graysons' voice called out to him. "We got one more surprise for you."

Damian raised his eyebrow at that. What else could they do? His father came back from the locker rooms where he had been desuiting, it always took him the longest because of his "old man bones" as Todd said.

"Son," his father said "its Wayne tradition to get your first Pokemon when you turn ten years old. I missed that with you." He paused, eyes briefly shifting to the floor before they snapped back on Damian's face. "Luckily there's one tradition we didn't miss. When you've lived at The Mannor for a year or the adoption papers get finalized, I give my children this..."

He pulled a Poke'ball out of his poket and handed to Damian. "Go on son, let them out."

He did

Staring at him was his own Eevee.

It's been a hot sec since I've shot any film, but what better way to get back into it than with sprocket shots!

This time I wanted to try a new development process- stand developing, which involved using Rodinal for the first time.

This is a 1+100 dilution for one hour.

Am I upset at how grainy it is? Not really. This is still the expired Arista EDU 400, so it'll be grainy from being 400 speed, then grainy again from being expired. This isn't grainier than I feel like I get with D76.

Overall, this was a really good time! It was very convenient too. It might inspire me to get back into a little more film!

hey mari have you ever seen Do Começo ao Fim? I'm not sure if it's 100% your style but i saw it years ago and, well, it sure was a gay incest movie. thoughts if you have seen it?

I HAVE and I actually have so much to say about this movie. You asked for this...

[This is long. Spoiler: I didn’t like it.]

Mostly I did not enjoy it at all, and it felt really off to me the way it just... glosses over the incest? For a movie that is supposedly about an incestuous relationship there was very little conflict about it, which is a choice I do not understand. I’m about to be a little harsh, so I’ll say what I did like about it first. So, the good: Júlia Lemmertz did a fine job as their mother, and their relationship with her is quite beautiful. The actors who play Francisco and Tomaz aren’t very good, but they do have chemistry together, and the love between them was evident in the way they talked, touched and looked at one another - although to be honest, that got very weird and cheesy too (I cringed every time Francisco said “irmãozinho”). Other than that, it was just bland, and I didn't think about it for years.

But then, years later, I read The Carnivorous Lamb by Agustín Gómez-Arcos, which is also about a gay incestuous relationship between two brothers, only it's set in Spain, and the whole thing is an extremely obvious metaphor for the civil war. There are a lot of similarities that made me think Do Começo Ao Fim was inspired by this book, but what really sealed it for me is that in The Carnivorous Lamb, Ignacio, the younger brother, is born with his eyes closed and remains that way for sixteen days:

“Sixteen days!” she exclaimed. “Can you believe it? He waited sixteen days to open his eyes! We were all standing around his cradle, and do you know what he did? Without hesitating, he looked straight at his brother, staring at him as if he were trying to hypnotize him. My dear, you can’t imagine how upset I was. Never, but never, will I forget those eyes, opening to the light for the first time, already full of shadows picked up God knows where. What infernal whirlwind was he riding during those sixteen days of my torment? What brought him to such a state? I never knew. He never looked at me. Or at his father either. His unblinking eyes were still locked on his brother’s.

So on the sixteenth day after my birth, I opened my eyes and unhesitatingly looked straight at my brother Antonio.

The exact same thing happens to Tomaz in Do Começo Ao Fim - he's born with his eyes closed and remains that way for weeks until he opens them and looks straight at his brother. There's a major difference, though, in how their mothers react. In The Carnivorous Lamb, the mother is selfish and oppressive. She makes a spectacle of her son's blindness, and is extremely disappointed when he opens his eyes because it ruins her plans of turning herself into some kind of martyr. In fact, she resents Ignacio for everything from the moment he is born, perhaps because she already senses they're the same.

In Do Começo Ao Fim, Tomaz's mother is not at all worried about his closed eyes because she knows he'll open them when he's ready. Tomaz says that's how he learned free will, which also puts him in direct opposition to Ignacio, who spends his childhood locked inside his own home and who never develops a sense of self outside of his relationship with his brother. Whereas in The Carnivorous Lamb incest is the product of a dysfunctional, abusive and unhappy family life, it’s framed as something natural and even healthy in Do Começo Ao Fim.

Of course, the movie is not an adaptation of Gómez-Arcos’s book, it’s just somewhat inspired by it. But it invited the comparison, and I think it’s curious how absolutely different they are, and how much the contrast sheds light in the blandness of the film.

The Carnivorous Lamb is theatrical to point of being ridiculous - entirely on purpose, because the characters know they’re playing their parts in a spectacle. Do Começo Ao Fim is also ridiculous, but I don’t think it’s on purpose, and it has nothing to say - and yet it manages to be preachy, what with the terrible, pointless voice-over of Tomaz telling us the themes of the movie, like “This is how I learned free will” and “I’ll never let them lock us in a cage”. Geez.

But for all that, it almost entirely skirts around the issue of incest. In fact, it doesn’t feel a narrative of incest at all, because that’s never a source of conflict. Not only Tomaz and Francisco happy together, they seem to be in a very healthy relationship, and everyone in their life loves and supports them. They even get their mother’s blessing (who is like a divine figure for them, so it’s like God is saying it’s all fine).

I suppose that’s because incest in this movie is a romantic fantasy and not reflective of how sibling incest actually happens in real life. But even then, it doesn’t actually explore, like, the consequences of violating this taboo out of love. It doesn’t explore anything, because there’s never any real conflict. Everything is bland, uninteresting, out of touch and sanitized to death, which is actually what I find most offensive about it.

It’s not just the fact of the incest, the film just refuses to deal with anything, which means there’s barely a story. The major conflict in the movie is that Tomaz and Francisco are going to need to spend some time apart in different countries because of their respective careers. This is understandably difficult for them because they haven’t spent any time apart since Tomaz was born. However, they quickly and efficiently solve this issue by communicating with each other with love and respect, making the choice together, parting ways and eventually reuniting. So even though everything points to a codependent relationship, they’re actually able to solve their problem like any normal, healthy couple would, because the writer hates me personally and doesn’t want to make anything even remotely interesting.

It’s a very curious movie in that way, because it’s like the writer was trying very hard to not tell a story. And he succeeded.

(Also, it’s interesting that you’ve seen this movie, I actually don’t know anyone else who has, except my mom. She also didn’t like it, she said it was boring.)

Basic Backstory:

Mabel is a soft spoken mudokon once held in captivity in a Feather Plantation in Nolybab. While the plantation homes have better conditions than factories and other manual labor facilities, the plantation houses are their own special type of torment. Being taken from their mothers upon hatching, mudokons raised in feather plantations serve one of two uses; to produce eggs as a queen, or for feather harvesting. The latter of which involves painful routine feather plucking and regrowth with the help of a Vykker developed formula called 'Plumage Serum' which causes the feathers to grow back at an unnaturally fast rate.

The feathers are then sold off to fashion industries, makeup companies, and furniture manufacturers at a high price. After hearing the rumors about Rupture Farms, Mabel escaped Nolybab with the help of her pet Sleg; Beetle. However the other mudokons in her section, including Mabel's sister Ava, decided to stay behind. Fearing the possible punishments should they get caught.

Movie Monday - Nov 16th, 2020

"My Favorite Foreign International Films"

So something I learned earlier this year is the Academy Awards category, "Best International Fim" - previously "Best Foreign Language Film" is somewhat flawed.

I read up on the category/topic more during the 2020 Academy Awards when Parasite had a breakthrough year.

First off - Why the name change?

Well, in the broadest aspects the word "Foreign" can be considered Politically Incorrect - by labeling an entire film - a piece work, or an entire film crew as foreign you are basically saying they are "Other" which could be construed as lesser. Renaming the category to "Best International Film" is a step to seem more inclusive as films should be a universal experience - the category is after all a celebration of World Cinema.

The name change however did not change any of the qualifications in regards to reaching the award ceremony - such qualifications as:

The featured language in the movie needs to predominantly Non-English - so this majorly affects countries like Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United Kingdom - you know, because if you speak English you must be American - you have no added culture.

This rule/mindset screwed over Nigeria, a country whose official language is English due to its past British rule. Nigeria submitted the film Lionheart, THE COUNTRY'S FIRST EVER SUBMISSION, to the 2020 Academy Awards and was disqualified as the English language was widely used in the film.

So to recap - An African country was disqualified from even being considered a nominee at the Oscars because their Official Language was not "Foreign" enough.

Now, just because English is your official language does not automatically exclude you - Australian, Canadian, and the UK film makers have made Non-English films just so they could be considered for the category.

Another aspect of a International Film category is that Each Country Chooses just ONE movie to represent their country - Only ONE. When it comes time all the International Films are finally whittled down to just 5 nominees for the Oscar ballot.

For most countries, like Italy (14 Oscar Wins - 28 nominations) and France (37 Oscar nominations - the most of any country, and 12 Oscar wins), this does not pose any issues as they are very open in regards to their selection process.

But when you consider countries like Russia, China, or Iran where creativity is censored or suppressed you are mostly likely not getting the best of the best.

Due to the censorship some people suggest creating an International panel to assist with each country's film selection, but how much power do we provide this panel and how will this affect countries like France and Italy that do not seem to have censorship issues?

These are some of the main issues the International Film category faces currently.

So now that we talked shop - it is time for me to talk about my personal favorites - I will note all these films are must sees in my book, but do not necessarily garnish repeat viewings.

Also, I am leaving out Amélie (2001), a true personal favorite, off the list because everyone and their hypoallergenic service dogs loves the film as well.

No segundo semestre, o iFood planeja lançar comercialmente robôs de entrega. Carrinhos elétricos, capazes de carregar até 30 quilos, vão transportar comida dentro de shopping centers e condomínios fechados – a “última milha”, fonte de prejuízo para empresas de logística. No exterior, Amazon, Uber e Wing (da Alphabet, holding do Google) vão decolar seus drones para entregar pacotes em até 30 minutos. Diante da complexa regulação dos Estados Unidos, os entregadores robóticos devem decolar primeiro em Israel, no Reino Unido e na China.

A CI&T, multinacional brasileira parceira na transformação digital de Coca-Cola, Itaú, Embraco e Vivo, ouviu mais de 500 executivos de grandes empresas sobre a tendências para 2020. De acordo com a pesquisa, 57% afirmam que a computação em nuvem será essencial ao crescimento, seguida por internet das coisas (49%) e inteligência artificial (48%).A computação em nuvem ganha apelo conforme tecnologias como IA se tornam estratégicas para qualquer tipo de negócio. "Empresas tradicionais, como fazendas, estão levantando e analisando dados em tempo real para ter mais inteligência, para sobrevier e crescer", diz Roberto Prado, CTO da Microsoft Brasil. "Mas não adianta tentar fazer isso comprando computadores, você vai levar um ano e meio para processar uma informação de mercado que é importante para o mesmo dia”.

5. Blockchain

As correntes de informação eram tecnologia de ponta em 2018, quando publicamos um especial sobre o tema. Em 2019, entrou no cotidiano de bancos e empresas intensivas em documentação e logística. Em 2020, aposta a consultoria Gartner, deve ganhar aplicações mais mundanas – até se tornar completamente escalável por volta de 2023. “Códigos de uso privado (em vez de bases públicas, como Bitcoin e Ethereum) estão ganhando uma abordagem descomplicada, ao implementar apenas alguns elementos de uma cadeia completa”, diz o relatório. “Blockchain é uma tendência que será ainda mais explorada”, diz Adriano Filadoro, diretor-presidente da Online Data Cloud, empresa de computação em nuvem. “É uma solução que pode ser implantada por uma equipe de TI ou contratada como serviço”.

How Little Ponies Discovered that Friendship is Magic (My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Apprecation Post)

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic came out in early 2010, the same year as Adventure Time and Regular Show and the fourth generation of My Little Pony. This show was originally for little kids but most viewers were adults, mostly men who watched it and it became one of the most popular and long-running cartoons shows that came out.

1) Unlike most shows that use similar animation such as Steven Universe and Craig of the Creek, it uses 2-D animation flash, similar to Fosters Home of Imaginary Friends.

2) Most characters develop pretty well from season 1 - 9 such as...

Twilight becomes a princess, started her friendship quest, have an apprentice, Starlight Glimmer and started her own friendship school

Fluttershy becomes more assertive, is best friends with the lord of chaos and has built an Animal Sanctuary

Rainbow Dash finally becomes what she always, to be a Wonderbolt

3) Although it’s for little girls, it does go into deep topics

Princess Luna gives her nightmares to punish herself for letting Equestria suffer which it means that she was doing this since season 1

Twilight’s old friend, Moondancer feels abandon when she left her on her birthday and didn’t even say goodbye

Big Mac wants to be Applebloom’s role model but Applejack always has and feels unworthy

4) I can’t simply say the songs are good. They are a godsend. It feels like I’m listening to Disney songs and the music of MLP FiM overshadows most cartoons shows songs, not even Steven Universe nor Adventure Time can’t compare.

This Day Aria is an instant classic to the show's songs. The voice actress of Cadance did amazing job doing both prospective of Queen Chrysalis and Princess Cadance

You’ll Play Your Part is simply majestic. Four different styles of vocal and yet they work very well. Twilight as friendly, Celestia as motherly, Luna as powerful, and Cadance as charismatic.

5) The world-building is very interesting. Each different type of ponies contributes to their society. Earth ponies incline to the environment and gardening, Pegasus control the clouds and change the weather, unicorns study magic, and then alicorns are the rulers of Equestria. Then in season 5, it got expanded that there are dragons, gryphons, yaks, kirin and sea ponies.

Conclusion

My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic has been aired for nine years with nine seasons, spinoff movies and shorts, Equestria Girls, a holiday special, a theatrical movie and a TV movie, making it a successful franchise and it’s pretty upsetting that this is the end. This show changed my life, it taught me to be more comfortable about myself and it helped me to more extraverted than introverted. Thank you, Lauren Faust, thank you MLP team and thank you MLP Fandom/ Brony community, you’ve made the show into one of the greatest cartoons and a pop culture icon and I couldn’t be more happy to part of it. No matter what happens, the friendship will always remain. Now rest with other great cartoons that has ended and rest with the other pop culture icons that have ended as well
