Welcome!

I go by Nope in online circles. I'm just someone who's into the more mechanical side of D&D, and as such I like making homebrew creations, both for my own game and just for the fun of it.

As such, you can expect this blog to mostly include D&D 5e homebrew, as well as some of my thoughts on the homebrew design process and D&D in general. Occasionally I might share some thoughts or tidbits for my other hobbies as well.

Along with some tags that I feel will be self-explanatory, here are the explanations for other tags I'll use on this blog:

#completed: Completed and polished homebrew, flush with art and formatting. I'll put homebrew here only if I think it would fit as is in an official product.

#draft: Homebrew that is mechanically complete and in theory can be used, but may not be as finely balanced and will be missing things like flavour text and art.

Well As That Just Happened

this seems like a good time to mention that if you are at all interested in listening to the Taffy Train Saga the playlist is here on youtube!

it's just a bunch of us goobers playing DnD with various bootleg toon/viddy game characters and having a very good time that doesn't get at all dramatic or sad (it does. don't worry about it.) it is VERY unpro, we are just homebrew humble folk here for the shenanigans anyway I did put a lot of effort into writing the thing and my players did a marvellous job of disembowelling it completely and I think it might be the best thing I ever did for DnD soooo??? yeah!

Announcement from CritRoleStats

CritRoleStats has announced on their website that they will be stopping all updates after the end of the year.

"After 8 years of pouring our hearts into our work and being one of the premier sources of third-party Critical Role information from live play-by-plays to collected data sets to digestible lore to encounter strategies to any other random fancies that crossed us, this will be the final quarter of CritRoleStats. As of January 2024, our team will say goodbye to the site and all the responsibilities we’ve taken on. We’re all completionists at heart, but despite our stubbornness, there was always a point where we had to recognize when we were ready to move on.

2023 isn’t over yet, though, and we’re still going to be hard at work throughout the rest of the year. Here’s what we’re doing, and what our future plans entail.

The Rest of 2023

We will continue our regular duties following Campaign 3 until January 1. These include:

Episode Livecasts, both live on Thursdays and edited article form on Fridays

Media References and Puns the following Tuesday

All Running Stats (times, charts, calendar, crits, galleries, …the list is far too long, but you get it)

What we have stopped doing:

Any updates for articles more than a year old (e.g., Media References)

Monster Analyses (concluded as C3E050)

Homebrew Updates, Quick Answers, One-Shot Masterposts, other various stats

We’ll continue to accept emails, but our Ask Box is now closed. We will do our best to update any charts, character sheets, and various stats to our satisfaction and accepted accuracy as of December 31, 2023.

2024 and Onward

On January 1, 2024, CritRoleStats.com will officially be frozen as a publicly-available archive, time-capsuled and as accurate as we can hope for for all information acquired prior to that date. We will no longer publish articles, update our archives, upload new character sheets, or provide episode livecasts. We will maintain our hold of our social media accounts as long as is reasonable on each site, but we will no longer use them for business as usual.

Thanks to your support, we expect to be able to continue to host the domain and all our data indefinitely, for as long as the Critical Role community still finds relevance in the CritRoleStats archives. We will periodically check the site and continue to apply any updates needed to keep it online, but the content available will remain unchanged. We’ll keep our Patreon and KoFi open, as any additional support for our years of service is of course appreciated. As for the continuation of any projects, while CritRoleStats as you all know it will close with the absence of our members, the TTRPG and CR communities are welcome to try to continue from the foundations we’ve established.

We welcome and are incredibly grateful for all of your support, both intrinsic and monetary, over our past eight years. We appreciate your patience and continued support in this final chapter!"

Screw it- Ask #2 because I'm bored. Can you tell me about your OCs? I like hearing about random people's OCs because alot of people like to rant about them and the excitement and pure effort put into making them makes me feel profuctive too!

There's so much. There's so so so so much. Nobody that I didn't already know has ever asked me about my ocs. They're all mostly D&D characters, or are in a D&D-esque setting I'll talk about some of my favorites, but there needs to be context.

None of the LORE is on any of their fucking toyhouse pages because I literally work on toyhouse stuff, get so motivated, I work on things for three days. Then I stop everything for six months. This is a continuous cycle. I suffer daily. I also over-explain and over-share A LOT. This is the first time anyone has asked about my ocs on a public platform. IT'S GOING TO BE A LOT. I'M SORRY. (And hell this might be a masterpost for all the little blurbs about my Little Guys?? idk!!) And ofc the art is old-ish.

Hamond :)

He's an aasimar fiend warlock (1)/ champion fighter (11), son of duke of a small homebrewed country, warlock of Graz'zt. Was sent to handle an owlbear in the woods due to it fucking with locals livestock. Was ambushed by said owlbear, it almost killed him, and this very kind demon lord took the opportunity to offer this young son of a duke a second chance to not be killed. Hamond agreed, got a nice new necklace, and killed the owlbear. He does the little things his patron wants in secret, which are thankfully just small things. His father sent him away due to his country going to war (contingency so royalty stays alive), where he met an astral elf twink who is now his fucked up little boyfriend.

Used him in a Heliana's oneshot before where this happened.

Next is Vihan! I'll keep it short with him because there is. A lot. (Glitch & Worm idk if you will ever see this, but this is spoilers)

They're a sentient sword, from a set of 8 weapons that embody schools of magic. Vihan is a shortsword that lets their wielder cast evocation spells for free, given to priest-kings of a long-lots city (of Mezro, the chosen of Ub'Tao are called barae). I gave him to my part at 12th level, since one in the party had made contact with his stupid fuckup son (Ras Nsi, not canon to actual FR lore), but Ub'tao chatted with the wizard like "hey. help me?" and our wizard went "K". I was thinking they would have him be a sword for a majority of the time but nooooo they fell in love with him. >:/ He was also broken when they met, to which I gave wild magic rolls when he cast things iirc (this was in 2021 its hazy). They fixed him up though.

(GLITCH AND WORM THE SPOILERS START HERE)

His former wielder was killed in a coup by another one of the chosen, in a plan to kill them all, usurp their god, and bring about an end to the world, but LORD that's another story.

But back to Vihan.

He's a real living person, kidnapped about 4oo years prior to the party getting them, had a bunch of experiments done on him, core implanted, renamed, all that. And given to a firbolg native to Chult who worked hard to be a barae, Epoch, leaving his 2 sons to be raised by his hometown. (and bc he was murdered and nobody was giving them answers, they became closed off from the bigger holy cities) And those kids got older, had communal kids, too, and one of those kids was the barbarian pc. The new barae of evocation was the wizard that said "K" to helping a god.

His name is actually Viktor, had an identical brother named Vacek (both changelings), and he robbed tourists in order for his brother to stay in a care home (their country of origin is corrupted capitalist hellscape island where if you can't produce for society, you have no use aside from being fertilizer, unless you can afford otherwise). When Viktor was kidnapped, Vacek was thrown onto the streets 10 minutes after payment was due, and he managed to climb on a boat as a stowaway during a storm and get the fuck out of there. While he was still chronically ill, getting off of pollution island was very beneficial for his health. He made it to another country and managed to live out his days and even had a family. He never went back to find his brother, assuming his thieving finally got him killed. (Their single mother was also murdered, and retrieving her body cost the two twelve year olds money they didn't have. She was meant to leave the country while pregnant with them, to be with their father who had already left, but port guards robbed her and kicked her back into the city. When her husband came back to make a stink, he was silenced permanently.)

Yes I was VERY into xenoblade 2 when I had this idea.

Is there a specific, like. Way to do Toonkind D&D 'officially?' By approaching someone or otherwise? Or is everybody doing their own thing and getting connected here and there? Binging some of the games struck me with inspiration and now I don't know what to do because I don't have anyone to set up a personal game with close friends or something

as ever there's a Toonkind masterpost here you can check out (there's always a link to it on my main blog page), and Toonkind is a homebrew DnD race created by @yunisverse who is super cool and anyone can use it!

Joining the og discord is a bit tricky these days and anyway it had to undergo the Great Splittening because it got super huge. Like, crazy huge man. Basically there is no official toonkind, you can make an OC regardless, and if your DM is cool with it you can play them in any DnD game! You can however follow the games of certain characters/arcs we play by looking in that masterpost link.
