originally “I like futa on ao3 but I’m curious who is writing it” anon! thanks all for the additional info. having read more since I got that ask, I must say I like the ones that feel more like the author thinks the futa character is like… a person? with thoughts and feelings? rather than only a monster (though if it’s done right it can feel like a sexy roleplay fantasy thing and that’s fine too).
my next question is this: where is the erotica written by trans lesbians? general erotic category, not only looking for extreme porn settings like futa. I’m sure there are loads on ao3, but different demographic groups often end up on different websites, so that’s why I wanted to ask. and different websites and like formative spaces end up producing very different kinks, and that’s been such a fun aspect of trying out this new genre. I’m starting to get into inflation and vore a bit! never would have thought of those in any way than a meme way before. and especially for original erotica, ao3 might not be the first place some erotica writers think of.
this is very silly because one really cannot, at the end of the day, truly tell who wrote what, but I do feel like the flavor of ao3 “futa written by people who acknowledge the existence of trans people and think they’re cool and hot” and “futa written by people who don’t” is different. I like the first better than the second.
envisioning my ideal new treasure trove of porn is honestly just “strong F/F predator/prey dynamics and some noncon” where like if the dom/predator woman has a dick it can be eroticized in context, but not so much of the futa genre assumption that simply by having a dick she’s automatically a different class of person. if that makes sense. like… this particular character is doing the hunting/forcing and she might or might not have a dick but the having the dick doesn’t automatically give her the personality traits that lead her to do that.
I think all women are hot and trans women specifically are hot, I just really haven’t seen a lot of porn of trans women by trans women. I think it would be really cool to find some!
--
Yeah, interesting question. I think as AO3 expands, more other groups are finding it useful, but it's definitely AFAB central. I wouldn't expect it to be the primary hangout for trans women, but maybe I'm wrong?

Treasure trove of writing reference for the medical aspect of whump
youtube
I love Dr. Chris Raynor’s way of presenting, using 3D diagrams and memes. I learned a lot from this and thought all you whump writers would like it too. It’s all about the science of torture methods; but honestly the information in it could apply to non-torture-based whump as well.

Todays rip: 14/10/2023
WA-HOO DISCO
Season 4 Episode 1 Featured on: SiIvaGunner's Highest Quality Rips: Volume AI
Ripped by ChickenSuitGuy
youtube
Look, I know, this is like what, the seventh Super Mario 64 rip I've covered on the blog now? Be it Piranha Plantsom, Harder to Breathe 64 or something more out there like Super Mario 64 Submarine Ending, the game and its music is a treasure trove for rippers looking to create gold. That's obviously best exemplified with the endless amounts of rips of the Slider theme, one of the most frequently ripped themes on the channel, and the focus of today's rip - WA-HOO DISCO.
Part of the fun with having a theme as frequently ripped as Slider, especially if its still beloved by the fanbase, is that it lets rippers experiment and mess around with the jokes whilst still drawing in viewers. Whilst I'll always wish that more SiIvaGunner fans simply watched all the rips that are uploaded, fact of the matter is that there's a large amount of viewers who simply watch rips of games or themes they're interested in. The Slider theme is like a perfect middle-ground in that sense, as its both a theme offering immense versitility for rippers to mess about in, whilst being immediately iconic to this more passive audience. A lot of Slider rips have used some bizarre sources in their arranging before: be it the theme song of the GameDude YouTube channel, music from Geometry Dash, or songs from bands such as Panic! At The Disco...it feels like a way for rippers to express their niche interests into rips that will inevitably garner attention in some form.
WA-HOO DISCO isn't quite as niche as some other Slider rips, but its source material isn't exactly a worldwide phenomenon either - YO-KAI Disco from Mamorukun Curse! is primarily only known of within the YPTMV/MAD community as an amazing piece of VGM. I previously covered it in its biggest ever rip on SiIva, 【=3】e-MUNO Disco (vs. 音MAD AGENT), but beyond that it's been a meme on both YouTube and sites like NicoNico Douga since the beginning of the 2010s - SEN-TRY Disco, anyone? It's an infectiously energetic song, as is to be expected from its legendary composer Yousuke Yasui, and I'm honestly shocked it hasn't been featured on SiIva more.
Part of the fun in Slider rips is that they almost all arrange the songs used *into* the silly accordion sound of the Mario 64 track itself, which leads to rips like WA-HOO DISCO sounding really unique when compared to their source jokes. It may just be my ears playing tricks on me, but WA-HOO DISCO in particular sounds almost a bit pitched down when compared to the original track, which alone helps bridge the gap between the two songs and make it sound entirely seamless. I couldn't be happier with the end result - ChickenSuitGuy has been featured on the blog so many times already, but I can't help it when his ability to follow through on executing jokes in this fashion is so consistently top-tier.

First line meme
post the first line from the last 10 fics you posted (and are there any patterns?) - I got tagged by the lovely @spirker! Thank you for thinking of me ❤️
(I cheated a little bit. If the first sentence was five words or less, I grabbed the whole first physical line, through to the end of the second sentence).
~
Wants To Be Caught (rated E, modern AU, Love Beyond Borders Olympic diving series)
Ed’s got that look on his face when Stede walks into the aquatic centre office—the one that makes him raise his brow immediately.
~
Handle With Care (rated E, modern AU, sex toy mishap x mailman)
Stede’s had a hard month. It’s been a hard year, honestly, ever since that whole you think our lives are monotonous? argument with Mary had bloomed and burst into a million stinging shards of yes and don’t you? and is this all there is? Seriously?
~
'Til We See the Sunlight (rated E, modern AU, collab with @ghostalservice and @mossgroves, Olympic figure skating AU (we're aiming to get the last chapter of this one to you all soon!)
The text pops up on Ed’s phone as he’s walking by the river, trying to kick some feeling into his bad knee that isn’t just fuck that hurts.
~
Parallel Placement (rated E, modern AU, Love Beyond Borders Olympic diving series- first line of the last chapter since it was a long-running fic)
Finally, finally, the last of these seemingly endless days rush past, and all at once it goes from a mind-numbing wait to fucking panic stations.
~
Naughty Office Guy (rated E, modern AU, Ed gets caught out by IT guy Stede watching spicy videos at work...)
Mondays suck, all right? It’s just a fact, and everyone in Ed’s office has different ways of dealing with it.
~
The Treasure Trove (rated E, modern AU, reality TV AU)
Ed Teach is a man of good taste and professional cultural brilliance.
~
These Golden Days (rated E, historical AU, WWII/ London Blitz-set- mind the tags and notes!)
Ed Teach stands at the edge of the Underground platform, freshly shined boots lined up all neat, staring down at the gleaming rails.
~
Tree Change (rated E, modern AU, ecological mystery x FWB x Kinktober-inspired- by complicated deduction process I decided to post the last line of the second-last chapter, since it was a long-running fic and the last chapter's one is a little spoilery :P)
Ed knows there’s something wrong before his eyes are even open.
~
Rinse and Repeat (rated E, modern AU, Grindr buddies with Cinderella vibes)
“Yes,” Stede moans, perched on Ed’s lap, that broad freckled back of his shining with sweat, Ed’s fingers tangled in his curls. “Oh god, yes, right there—”
~
Shadow and Shine (rated E, magical/fantasy canon-alternative AU)
Ed wakes up with solid ground under his back for the first time in years.
~
(There are definitely patterns and I will continue to ignore them all and write the same five kinds of opening lines to many very different fics 😂)
I never know who to tag for these so throwing it wide open to anyone who'd like to play ❤️

ok new a5c roomies headcanon incoming - theres a collaborative pinterest board that all the roomies have access to and it's exclusively for reaction pics/memes. sometimes they write mini call outs in the descriptions (mostly for soonyoung). jun pins the most closely followed by yn. soonyoung likes to make his own (mostly horanghae themed) and upload. jihoon doesn't pin many but when he does - he's spamming liam payne/one direction memes. wonwoo's are ALL cursed cats.
WAIT OMG I LOVE THIS SO SO MUCH !!!
YES !! while they each have their own personal collection of memes, their shared board is a treasure trove and probably has hundreds of memes pinned. jun’s and yn’s memes honestly make the roomies mildly concerned bc they’re the chaotic, cursed, makes very little sense, needs galaxy-brain levels of comprehension to understand and appreciate. i also love the idea of soonyoung making his own horanghae memes and he uses picsart to make em + a lot of it is his own face. sometimes, he makes ones with the other roomies faces too. jihoon’s liam payne and one direction memes yes !! wonu’s cursed cats also just serves as a roundabout way of telling the others that he wants a cat.
thank you for this anon !! if you (or anyone else reading this) have any more hcs about our roomies, i’d love to hear em !

Unofficial Rec Bulletin #177, Latest News Edition, December 2021
The show is over, long live the fandom! The irregularly posted Unofficial Rec Bulletin is back again. I’ve good news and bad news for you. Let’s get this ball rolling.
Contents

Favorite Destiel Fic Survey (deadline December 26, 2021)
@destieltropecollection  (deadline - December 20th, 2021)

Lost Fic Group Asks #193 - #195
Fandom Events
in the beginning of December, tumblr own tag counting and trends perusing blog @fandom released their annual Year In Review posts. Destiel and Supernatural were featured in several posts - Top 21 of 2021 #2 Supernatural, #3 Destiel, #21 Castiel SHIPS - #1 Destiel, #27 Cockles Celebs - #4 Misha Collins, #5 Jensen Ackles Memes - #18 SPNgate, #22 SPN memes
Favorite Destiel Fic Survey 2021 is back for another round of a sweet, sweet fic reccing and sharing! See the main post and link to google docs here. The curator of the collection, @unforth, answers questions about the proper way to vote here and here. And here’s the latest update about cheating attempts and waste of curator’s time. Honestly guys, please do not take for granted the volunteer efforts of event moderators. We are all here to enjoy fandom, not to serve entitled few. The survey will remain open until Sunday, December 26th, 2021.
this is your last chance to vote for favorite tropes in @destieltropecollection survey - deadline December 20th, 2021. The most popular tropes will be used to make next fic rec lists!
Favorite Destiel Fic Survey Collection on AO3 is an ever-growing treasure trove of beloved fics, but it suffers the losses along with the fandom. Here’s the post about fics that were deleted from AO3 and the collection in past year.
And now the saddest news of them all, following authors have deleted or partially deleted their fics from AO3 (links go to relevant posts on @destielficarchive) - sir_kingsley, DarknessBound and HazelDomain.
The sadness and desperation rolled all over my dash when we learned that destiel fic author deathbanjo aka beenghosting has deleted all their fics from AO3. The main posts about deletion here and here.
As always, a friendly reminder to download your favorite fics for safe keeping and follow @destielficarchive to be always on top on all fic related news.
Destielfanfic Stuff
Stanford era Dean meets Castiel fic rec list - a self-indulgent fic rec list about the time when Dean was young and hunted alone. The post is updated with the rec list made by the creator of the fanart @cat-peach! Check it out, it has more recent recs. ;)
Lost fics were looked for and found on our Group asks #193, #194, #195.

for the ask meme: 9, 32 & 49 please!
It’s only been 10 days... It’s only a guess which ask game you sent this for...! ^^; (I am basing it on the fact I read the questions and mused about them for this whole time so I am probably right about the game.) @nossbean
9. What are your favorite fanfics?
Oh no. Oh no. I could and should write POSTS upon POSTS about this.
But I haven’t, because I don’t have the energy to. So you get a cheat version of some of my random favorites from my last pages of my AO3 history. And few special shout outs.
@angel-deux-writes Worth is a wholeass gem and I haven’t commented yet, but I binged it basically today (with exception of first chapter) and I can’t stop yelling about it internally, because the way she says things!! She always has some of my favorite Brienne characterization I get so envious over. There is strength and pride in it, and vulnerability and fear and the acknowledgment that her self-loathing is unfounded yet how hard it is to defend yourself, even knowing all that. I could write essays about it and Angel’s stories in general. Anything by her is a treasure trove, truly.
@samirant Rush Me All Night Long is a fascinating concept, so very well executed and absolutely captivating. Makes me go slack-jawed with awe with how seamless it is. And beyond the craftsmanship of the story form itself, the contents are absolutely epic, too. Intrigue, growth of relationship, dash of humor that is right up my alley, lot of good other characters with their wonderful insights... Nothing to add or take away. Just great. And you KNOW you should check rest of her writing out, too. You won’t regret it.
@ajoblotofjunk is back with another subtly, but powerfully in-depth world story with Baby I Will. How many professions has she gotten degree in already? Because the way she weaves art of playing in bars is so organic. And oh, the connection between Jaime and Brienne... Electrifying, a storm that starts as static sparks as they brush past each other. And I can’t wait to watch it grow. (Also shout out to her absolutely beyond epic gift to me, Petrichor. Which is mindblowingly great and written at haste I cannot comprehend. It couldn’t be more tailored to me and I tear up just thinking about it.)
LadyRhiyana’s Stray Sparks II is the perfect example why I tell someone at least once a week “I wish I could LadyRhiyana this”. Her absolutely amazing skill to capture a whole setting, a whole world of emotions in sometimes as few as 5 to 10 sentences (and not the 30 word sort!) is just... Mesmerizing. I admire it so much and am typically absolutely enamored by her stories. Crossover is also in my history and I am absolutely head-over-heels for it.
@kurikaesu-haru Thirsty is the most endearing, captivating way to combine the two meanings of the word and I adore it to pieces. It’s fun and emotional and hot, and everything it could possibly need to be and then some, in best way possible. And her works contain more and more of gold mines, truly.
@firesign23 is a treasure, to this fandom and to me in particular, for many reasons. But her skill to devastate me with short stories is truly something else.  Odd Socks (link to one of my favorite of the lot, but do give them all a read if you haven’t!) is what I have in my history, but I rec her as a writer 1000%. Her prompt fills are always poignant and not shy of ache and I can only marvel at them all. But also how could I miss out on mentioning her two breathtaking recent stories for fic exchange? Hold Steady is a Journey without ever leaving Winterfell, but the miles traveled by weary, worried, longing hearts in it... Oof. And, of course, I have to mention by hearts and hands made fast because it’s for me and it made me cry real tears more than once (!) and actually yell in real life, like no other story. Real and complicated as the characters deserve to be told, painful and comforting, absolutely breathtaking in the prose... I could rant for days, truly. And truly, wherever you look at her work, you’ll find more of it.
@aviss Skin Deep is just gem, gem, gem. Am I biased because she wrote for me, in a sense? Maybe. But she ACED it in ways I can barely comprehend. Everything I could wish for in the concept is there and more. Sweet pining, absolute besottery and realistic realizations and then hot, earnest resolutions... What a gem. As is rest of her works, really!
32. Past or present tense?
I used to be such a past tense snob. Nothing else for me, no sir. But now I write almost exclusively in present tense. I can’t tell when the shift happened, I think when I was 20 or few years older than that, and I don’t know why, I think I read a good fic, like really good one, and also was trying to bypass my writer’s block by switching it up. And I found a certain freedom in it. A sense that it makes sense for me to go deeper, to be in present turmoil and wax poetics about it for few paragraphs. Because it’s currently happening, instead of retelling if something that has been. It freed me more in past tense, too, though.
It’s odd I don’t remember how and why the shift happened, almost makes me feel sad.
Nowadays I mostly write in past tense because I get too caught up in flashback sort of sequences and can’t make it grammatically correct anymore so I switch everything to past tense. Tomorrow (with you) is prime example.
49. Where do you draw inspiration from?
Anything. The other day, I was bitterly laughing with a friend I could write a piece about stain on floor, create whole 1-3k word story about someone thinking about the stain, etc. Doesn’t matter if it has funny shape or not, known origin or not.
Most often, though, it’s prompts, it’s song lyrics, it’s some kind of thought/belief I have for character that I want to express/see them through some kind of event in way I think they would. Sometimes, it’s specific setting or watching something. Like, there was one (1) almost head-kiss in a kdrama with secret identities and I created a whole 10k word worth story idea off of it... Sometimes, it’s honestly even just a dumb, dumb post. But yes, music/feelings/prompts, I’d say are the main thing.
And as for inspiration drawn for writing itself... That’s a difficult question for me, right now. In kindest, non-rambly way I’d probably say what other people have lived and written.
Send me fanfic question?<3

Look at this Trove! Treasures Untold!
As a multifaceted millennial, you should know that I know quite a lot when it comes to pop culture. After all, I play video games, watch cultured television shows and movies on massive streaming sites and read books. The three hobbies that essentially make me a repository for all things hip and chic. Think of any topic and I can match you with a quote or a meme. Lord of the Rings? Please. In your ear, I’ll whisper, ‘One does not simply,’ or ‘You shall not pass!’ How about Mass Effect, I hear you ask? ‘I’m Commander Shepherd and this is my favourite store on the Citadel!’
My one great foible, of course, is when nobody picks up on the references that I make. The cost of knowing so much is to see it not being recognised by those around me. It is a crying shame that I cannot discuss the Greek gods and goddesses or their many myths and legends.Nor can many appreciate a good old ‘taxation without representation’ chant.
Do these people live under rocks? How can they not have known about She-Ra and the Princesses of Power? Why does no-one else seem to ship FitzSimmons along with me? Am I the only person that has bothered to read excellent fantasy authors? Why aren’t others jumping at the opportunity to watch Hamilton with me at the Lyric Theatre?
It should come as no surprise that social media, such as Tumblr, are rife with references to television shows and video games and the odd anime or two. But when you spend so much time on the internet, you forget that there are other people in the world that simply aren’t as ‘fetch’ as you are.
Take for example, my work colleagues. Not one could appreciate that I quoted the great Sherlock Holmes by chastising them for their lack of attention to detail. ‘You see, but you do not observe,’ said I in a grand booming voice. They stared at me like I was insane. As if true genius could be sidelined because the poor fools around me knew not what I quoted.
Even among my family and friends, I have often felt to hide certain aspects of myself. Would they be able to appreciate the science behind Game Theory? What about OutsideXbox or PlayStation Access? Do they even know that there are a group of nerdy-ass voice actors that play Dungeons and Dragons every Thursday (but which I will only get to watch Tuesday morning)?
Honestly, dear reader, you know not the self-restraint I showed when I saw TWO people wearing Sora, Donald and Goofy t-shirts on a train platform on TWO separate occasions. I wanted to march on over, even though one was busy tip tap typing away at her laptop and DEMAND that we talk about the Kingdom Hearts franchise and so that I also drop some epic one-liners like, ‘My friends are my power,’ and ‘You’re not taking Kairi’s heart!’
Too often, I’ve played it safe by keeping subtle pieces of geeky memorabilia on my persons. A Kingdom Hearts lockscreen on my phone, Lucario Pokesketch for my train pass, Lightning Farron dangling from my house keys.
True, there have been a few great moments when I’ve spotted my fellows out in the wild. A man wearing a DOOM shirt who had also named his daughter after the infamous Tomb Raider, an appreciator of the intricacies in the Yennefer and Geralt romance and of course all the employees that work in EB Games and Zing. Let’s not forget the discovery that one of the new people in my workplace is an absolute Warcraft nut that smacked down my Medivh impression when I recited the first few lines of the Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos prologue.
One of these days, I need to scrounge up my courage and attempt to make small talk with other people that share my interests. I mean, aren’t we all socially awkward individuals that can barely string words together? No? Just me? Darn it all!
In any case, I’m all for more people displaying what they love. And, if you see a random Asian woman intensely staring at your t-shirt, be sure to come over and say ‘hi’ so that we can discuss books, games or even guilty pleasure television shows like You or Pretty Little Liars. To this day, I still don’t know what drove me to watch all seven seasons. I mean...I started because Nolan North and Holly Marie Combs (PIPER! FROM CHARMED) were in it. But I can’t say why I continued after the second season...
And gosh, I can’t believe I also managed to stomach all of Gossip Girl. WHAT IS WRONG WITH ME?

Reverse unpopular opinion meme: minor characters of supernatural
*| positive opinions meme |*
This show has a treasure trove of side characters! It’s not surprising with a show this long running.  It’s honestly really great for fancontent!
Also, personally, since side characters aren’t developed as much as the mains, the world really is your oyster when you make content for em.  You have so much creative freedom to explore with them!

Lovely Good Omens fandom! Many of you have asked for/mentioned having a text version of the Yelp reviews, which if I were a better person I would have remembered to include in the first place. Better late than never? So here’s a version below and I also threw this up on AO3 so there are options. For the record, I’m not at all trained in transcribing visual media, so if anyone wants to add to/edit/do whatever to this post, especially to make it more accessible, you have carte blanche to do so 👍
Also I typed this up in a hurry so, as always, apologies for any typos.

So I slipped into this place because I spotted my ex across the street and would have rather chugged a cocktail of bleach, lighter fluid, and a condensed solution of all my middle school years then talk to that asshole. Owner was on me the second I walked through the door and I thought he was gonna be one of those ‘Either buy something or get out’ types. Nah. I spilled the story, said I really wasn’t looking to purchase anything, and he LIT UP like nobody’s business. He gave me tea and promised I’d never run into my ex again. Which is a super sketchy promise on its own and also should have been hilarious coming from a guy a century behind in style.
...Kinda believed him though.

Pretty sure this guy wants a library, not a bookshop. I mean, he’s nice and all when you first come in, but trying to actually buy a book? Good fucking luck. He’s too busy to see you right now (for the record he’s super bad at pretending to be busy). Or claims that this book has already been put on reserve (then why wasn’t it in the reserve pile...?). Or the price suddenly jumped an obscene amount. Or he just straight up hems and haws until you get fed up and leave. I watched him pull a novel straight out of a woman’s hands once when she claimed that price was no object and she wouldn’t be leaving the store until she’d purchased it. You’d think she was trying to kidnap one of the guy’s kids!
So yeah. Feel like popping in to browse, maybe take pictures for your research, all while making quiet conversation with someone who quite frankly knows his stuff? This is the place for you. Want to actually buy something? Go elsewhere. Pretty sure Fell doesn’t even own a cash register. At least I’ve never seen one.
He wants a library and I’d honestly tell him as much if he didn’t scare me just a little bit...

I stayed here for three days once. Found a bathroom off the romance section and a chair hidden away in the back. Way comfier than my mattress at home. Mostly played iPhone games and kept real quiet at night. Experiment ended when I popped out for breakfast and didn’t make it back before a random 10:00am closing. Don’t think the owner ever realized what was up.

I really love this place. I’ve been coming here since I moved to London, about twelve years ago, and it’s one of the most soothing bookstores I’ve ever had the pleasure of visiting. Yeah, you hear talk of weird things going on at Fell’s, but really? We could all do with a bit more quirky in our lives. And Fell provides that in spades: Annual plants that never seem to wither, let alone die. The smell of incense mixing with cocoa. Strange books tucked horizontally into the shelves, feeling like they have a touch of magic to them. Nonsensical conversations taking place in dark corners (I’m talking candid chats about the apocalypse and whether angels could actually bless all the rains down in Africa. I swear Fell and his boyfriend are the religion Mythbusters or something.) I’m going to sound like a total nerd here for a moment, but it feels like some sort of liminal space. You know when you were a kid and you were just desperate to receive your Hogwarts letter? Or find your own wardrobe to Narnia? That’s what walking into Fell’s feels like. Like you’ve finally found that portal and can stay as long as you like, provided you don’t try to take anything back with you into the ‘real’ world. Hell, maybe that’s why he won’t let anyone buy his books.

I’m not gonna pretend I have anything to say about whether this is a good bookstore or not, but if you ever want knitting help you should definitely stop by. Mr. Fell knows an absurd amount about crafts for a guy who looks like my grandpa and he’s now replaced Youtube as my go-to for alleviating “Omg please fix this how the hell did I manage to reverse the pattern??” panic. For the record, I didn’t just wander up to a random bookseller one day and demand that he help me salvage the ruins of my first sweater. I’d taken a seat inside to wait out a storm, had my messy sleeve stuffed into my purse, and he’d offered the help. Bit of a bastard about things like gauge and color--not everyone wants to wear tartan, dude--but you get used to that. He means well. Said I should come back to show him the finished piece, which I did. Things just kind of spiraled from there. He’s an absolute treasure trove of knowledge once you get him talking and a muffin to boot. If he were twenty years younger and in any way straight I would have asked him out in a heartbeat. As it is I’m considering setting him up with Grandpa.

I’m not really a book person myself but I followed my wife in with our seventh-month old and was kinda embarrassed when he started making a fuss. Normally I’m full Badass Mom mode while in public--I’ve got a kid to feed, change, sooth, and you all can damn well deal with it--but this place was so quiet Liam seemed extra loud in comparison. I was about to take him back out when a man appeared out of nowhere. The owner I guess, based on how some of these other reviews describe him. Older gentleman with clothes out of some period piece. Anyway, he scoops Liam into his arms like he was born for it and started bouncing. Our fussy, temperamental, drama queen Liam settled in an instant and my wife got to browse to her heart’s content. I don’t know how he did it, but that man is an absolute angel. Full stars for that moment alone.

Run by this delightfully frumpy guy who sometimes hands out biscuits from a sewing tin like my gran used to. He asked me if I was looking for anything in particular and I told him my name was Jared, I was 19, but sadly I’d never learned how to read. I have NEVER seen a man more confused in my life. 10/10 would meme him again.

I’m setting the record straight here since there are a bunch of reviews claiming it’s just London folklore: there is a snake at A.Z. Fell’s. Must be an exotic pet he usually keeps upstairs because I’ve only ever seen it twice. Is it big? Yes. Scary? Fuck yes, but I’ve never seen it do anything more than give a warning hiss at this drunk who wandered in and started yelling. (Are snakes good guard dogs? This one is.) The other time he was just chilling on top of one of the shelves. Snoozing, I guess. I asked Mr. Fell if I could pet him and he said maybe after he woke up, but then I had to get to class and all.
Afraid of snakes? Steer clear. Otherwise I’d really recommend popping in and seeing if he’s around. Idk, maybe I’m just a snake fan but he looks super sweet and chill. Life is short. Boop the snake snoot.

I live down the street from A.Z. Fell’s and let me tell you, this place is spooky as fuck. All sorts of weird lights and noises coming from it. At all times of the day and night too. Either this bowtie wearing bookworm has one crazy sex life or the place is haunted. Jury’s out on which.

This shop smells. Not that old book smell either, oh no, but like something is molding. I took my little Johnny in here to try and get him interested in something other than those damned video games and I walk into what smells like a whole cloud of toxic mold! My boy has a weak constitution as it is and if he comes down with anything I will be pressing charges, you mark my words.

Hey, does anyone want to talk about the fact that this place burned down last month? As in, completely up in flames, I saw it happen, nothing but a smoking husk afterwards? Does no one else remember this??

Has anyone read this guy’s opening hours? I included a photo above: “I open the shop on most days about 9:30AM perhaps 10:AM. While occasionally I have opened the shop as early as 8, I have been known not to open until 1.” Absolutely insane. This guy’s a madman and I love him. If anyone actually manages to get into this place please let me know because I need to shake Fell’s hand.

23 for the anime thing because I am a nosy bitch
This is hardly a secret but I LOVE Endeavor!! I know his popularity has increased as of late and the fandom seems pretty evenly split at this point but back when I watched the first two seasons, which was mmmm probably a year before season three started, there was nothing but hate for the man. Absolutely vitriolic environment. Looking through the Endeavor tag was an excerise in saint-like patience because for every one ☝️vaguely positive post, there were ten more talking about how they wanted to see him die in gory detail or making poorly conceived memes in a blithe attempt to drag him. Oh, and let’s not forget the raging mob you’d attract if you so much as said one thing about how he was fucking hot. Which he absolutely IS. Didn’t matter if you outright condemned the treatment of his family, just the simple act of acknowledging how attractive he is would earn you at LEAST five anon hate messages. It was a dark time, man. I’m so glad things have marginally improved because that was a whole lot of people taking anime shit way too seriously before the redemption started. Which, I don’t necessarily agree with suddenly deciding it’s fine to thirst over him just because he feels bad about what he did. Y’all villain fuckers should know that better than anyone else! But I’m not gonna complain about it too much since things HAVE improved.
I still see Endeavor antis who don’t know how to take a goddamn chill pill to save their lives on occasion but, generally speaking, the vibe around his name has greatly improved. Writers are actually creating content for him now which is so wild to me because I remember thinking “I cannot be the only bitch in this house with a working pair of eyes” and desperately searching for self insert content. You know what I found? A treasure trove of poorly written, satirical fics wherein the characters or the author/reader insert stick it to him for being a shitty father in arguably “clever” ways.
🙄
And also incest porn. Lmao The very first fic I read for him was actually Enji x Rei smut, that’s actually how desperate I was, ya girl really had to self insert as his WIFE. How sad is that? Anyway, I was like “you know what. This author is actually very talented, have they written anything else for him? I’ll consume ANYTHING at this point!” And that’s how I ended up reading a sprawling epic of interconnected fics by this person wherein Enji fucks every single member of his family at one point or another and yes, I DID self insert into every single one of them. 💀 but also 🤣
So yeah, my relationship with Endeavor has been an extremely harried one. The hate just made me love him harder though. And also his birthday is literally the day after mine which, first of all, is fate. So jot that down. But secondly, I cannot abandon a fellow August Leo and I’m high key loyal to that man for life. He could put All Might out of his misery his own damn self and I’d still say ayyye papiiiii 😩
The only other character I can think of who even comes close to being as hated is Hisoka but I honestly can’t tell if the people who have a visceral reaction to him are just the EXTREMELY loud minority or if those of us who are down to clown 😎 are actually the majority. I’ve seen some extremely ice cold takes on him but the thirst greatly outnumbers the haters so I really don’t think he’s quite comparable to Endeavor.

oh, is it fred o’clock? ELMOFIRE! fred is a pillar. honestly. she is a constant and she is solid. she’s a witch but she doesn’t have a cauldron, she has this duffel bag (don’t ask me why, it’s a duffel bag) which is full of ideas and facts and random bits and pieces but they are all useful and all on point. fred is that, too. a sort of treasure trove. A. GIFT. i actually feel sorry for fred who is subjected much too often to my rambling about tissaia / the mages so thank you, friend, because i would tell myself to shut up. her muses are all wonderful and so canon that everything she writes is actual canon fact at this point. everything she touches turns to gold. i don’t know how she does it but she bloody does! and on top of all this, she is so laid back and kind and generous. we are so lucky to count fred as part of this fandom ♥ thank you so, so much ♥

Recently Viewed: Escape Room
When it comes to overproduced studio schlock, my brother and I are connoisseurs. Sure, we enjoy competently-crafted movies, but nothing compares to the satisfaction of dissecting the stupidity and ineptitude of stinkers like Resident Evil: Retribution, Silent Hill: Revelation, and Chernobyl Diaries. Escape Room doesn’t quite reach the heights (or sink to the lows, I suppose) of those glorious cinematic train wrecks, but like any good puzzle, careful examination reveals a treasure trove of plot holes, logical inconsistencies, and ham-fisted storytelling.
Tumblr media
While the premise of a lethal escape-the-room challenge seems ridiculous on the surface, it really is the least of the film’s problems; after all, the horror genre has drawn inspiration from literary classics, urban legends, holidays, internet memes, power tools, and boardgames—the latest company retreat fad honestly isn’t that much of a stretch. In terms of its themes, conflicts, and structure, it’s basically a big-budget reimagining of Cube (a group of strangers must fight their way through an architecturally-improbable labyrinth, evading deadly traps and unraveling the mystery behind why they’ve been imprisoned), with a few elements from Cabin in the Woods, The Belko Experiment, Saw, and Hostel thrown in for good measure. It’s undeniably derivate, but the familiar ingredients are remixed skillfully enough to keep the audience invested in the action.
Indeed, in the moment, Escape Room is thoroughly engrossing, sprinting through the narrative with such relentless forward momentum and buoyed by such a likable ensemble cast that you almost fail to notice the clunky exposition, transparent foreshadowing, and on-the-nose characterization. But the post-screening discussion inevitably illuminates these flaws and others (seriously, how did none of our protagonists realize that the receptionist was a mannequin delivering a pre-recorded message?), and picking them apart is just as fulfilling as solving a riddle or brain-teaser. That’s the true joy of trash cinema: the experience continues long after you leave the theater.

who’s the one to wake up the kids:
It’s just sun rise when he stirs. The first strips of the new day casting themselves over the horizon, when eyes blink open. The house still and quiet. The bed beside him empty, gone cool with the time she’s been gone from it. But there is no complaint that comes. No growl. She’s her own time and he’ll not begrudge her for it.
So instead he pulls himself from the sheets. Takes a shower and dresses comfortably. Then off to start the coffee, coax the fire into something brighter and warmer. Take some of it’s light and bring it to the stove to warm it. Then up the ladder steps that complain under his heavy feet. Down the wide hall for its size and catching the latch on the doors as he goes.
“Up ye ge’...be startin’ breakfast soon...No dawdlin’ bitten. We be havin’ d’ings ta ge’ done to’day.”
The third of course is given more pause. Strong hands that lift the red head out of his crib. A kiss to the forehead before a diaper is changed and the little boy is settled at his side. His fingers giving entertainment as he takes up point between the two elders’ doors. Ruffled hair and little nudges to get them to fall into step a little faster. Because he hadn’t been lying. They’ve things to do today. The market for one. And he’d rather they be home again before early afternoon if he can help it.
who makes the breakfast:
Into the kitchen he herds them. The quiet question they always ask when she’s absent from her perch by the stove. The answer given them the same.
“She be home when she be home. An’ no o’moment sooner.”
The youngest juggled to his other side so he can get things from the ice box. The twins pulling up their step stools to help mix the batter and pick their eggs from the basket. And it’s only a small mess before something edible is filling each plate. Only a small mess, because he’s too grateful for the little ones that surround him to think of it as anything else.
who’s the one to cry for everything:
A lesson learned is a trouble avoided later. And it is something each of their children learned early. No means no. Not maybe or but what if. No is no. And crying will only get you sent to your room until you can come to terms with the reality that sometimes...things just don’t go your way.
who’s the more discipline parent and who’s the more lenient one:
Most days it is a case of them reinforcing each other. If one gives answer or directive, the other supports it. But sometimes there are moments of being underminded by the other. Sometimes a father will tell them no because dinner will be soon, yet the moment his back his turned a mother bird will sneak them sweets hidden in her feathers. Because honestly? Sometimes a father is too strict and every now and then a mother likes being the ‘fun’ one.
who helps with the science fair:
They do not go to school as other childern. They are taught the world by a father that lived it much longer than any other mortal. They are taught their letters and how to read. They are taught true history and not always how the victors told it. They are taught how to grow what they need to survive from a seed. They are taught their numbers. They are taught everything they will ever need to succeed in life. All while never stepping foot inside an ordinary class room. For them their classroom is the world just outside their front door and the treasure trove that is their father’s library and their mother’s experience.
who does baby talk:
They have always been talked to as nothing short of tiny humans. Loved and cherished for the children they are but talked to with intelligence. Nothing ever so dumbed down that it becomes nothing short of nonsense. Because if you want them to be smart, treat them like they already are.
who wakes up for midnight feedings:
This can not be answered without making assumptions i do not feel comfortable making. my apologies.
who’s the one who always worries:
It’s half passed midnight when the kitchen door creaks open. Booted feet that tread careful and slow across the worn wood. The near silent exchange of cotton as said boots are shed, along with a coat that’s hung in its place on the wall. The house quiet and still. Dark save for the low fire in the hearth he hasn’t figured out quite yet how it’s kept alive into the wee hours. Socked feet that creep towards the ladder steps right up until...
The lamp switches on in the corner of the living room. A stout figure settled in his father’s chair. Arms criss crossed as the bird upon his shoulder eyes the young lad with a kind of judging disappointment. And whether it is because he’s been caught or because he broke the rules again isn’t quite clear. Though he’s given no time to work it out because there’s words.
Words that lecture about calling. About finding some way to keep them informed. That while he’s not a child anymore he’s not quite yet a man and it is selfish in some ways to keep them in the dark. Keep them worrying over what could have happened. Words that wash over and away from him, because he’s a little too much like his uncle. A little too uncaring because it’s not like he’s important. Not like his sister and brother and cousin anyway. And there’s only so much he can take before...
“I los’ track of time okay?!  Auntie showed me a new path in the wilds an’ I los’ track. M’sorry. Won’t happen again.”
And there’s a second or two where the air is thick and the doubt of what comeuppance he’s earned himself for raising his voice, rises in the back of his throat. Only thickens when his father stands up. Crosses the space between them, breathes between their toes. And a youth is forced to look up through his brows because for all that he knows he’s in trouble his pride won’t allow more. At least until...
He’s enveloped instead of chided. A hand to the back of his head and an arm around his shoulders. An embrace that is held for several long seconds. A mother’s beak pecking at his hair affectionately, as a much more human like kiss is placed in it. Shooed away towards his room a moment later.
“Be gettin’ yeself ta bed, lad.”
         Yes, sir.
who picks up the kids early from school for some fun:
Sometimes no matter how interesting the lesson little minds can not focus. Sometimes the day is far too warm and welcoming to care about their letters, or how it is they should tend a growing sprout. Sometimes children know when the itch to run and fly is just as great in their parents as it is within them. And sometimes a mother bird will help them. Coax the more playful side of their father from his slumber and lessons are inevitably forgotten.
Forgotten in lieu of honing other skills. The skills that set them apart from other short lived mortal beings.
The skills of wing. Of paw. And of the Hunt.
who’s the competitive parent:
Sometimes at night when sleep does not come, they sneak from their rooms. Creep from their loft and through the house. Find their parents bed vacant but climb into it anyway. Their goal the frosted window above the headboard that shows them the wide expanse beyond. Three sets of sharp eyes searching the dark for any trace of their wayward parents. And then...
A spark of something. Gold as the sun and silver as the moon above them. The darting of black silk against the muted greens. A streak of summer brown. And there are smiles that come to the children’s faces. Little cheers as the eldest does her best to keep score. Wondering who might come out the victor this time, in this mock battle. But all always believing without doubt who it will be. For their parents are as any beloved child might believe them to be. Ten feet all and untouchable.
who kisses the ouches:
They are taught that every bruise and scrape is a lesson. One learned to avoid the same mistake in the future. They are taught that it will not last. That the pain is temporary. They are taught to weather it. To bare it with little complaint. To understand it is only as bad as it actually is. Yet their wounds are tended all the same. Careful hands, that have wrought so much more destruction than he wishes them to ever know, that clean and bandage. That hold them and wipe away the tears. Hands that will catch them no matter how big they grow, because a child should also be taught they have a safe haven. No matter how great or how small the wound.
who’s the sucker for the puppy eyes:
She will say she is immune. She will say it does not work. She will say a great many things. But the truth is she loves them. Each in their own way. Each in their own time. She knows each better than they will ever understand. And for that perhaps she indulges more than she should. Doing what she can to make up for the times she can not be here.
Sweets hidden in her feathers given when they should be fast asleep. The last of their favored dish when the others aren’t looking. Gifts she finds on the journeys that take her far from their door step. That one particular toy in the shop window they know better than to beg for, but a mother knows all the same.
Because her children do not beg and plead. They ask and they accept the answer given them. Though occasionally...sometimes...when a father isn’t looking a mother is given that one look. And sometimes a mother bird dotes because it is her right.
who makes the “dad jokes”:
Mama can yea put on me shoes?
“No they v’ill not fit me.”
           Maaaaammaaaaa!
There is a chuckle that comes and goes from the hall amid the fluttering and flitting of wings. The complaint and eventual thump of younger son giving up. Though his brother comes to the rescue in a heart beat. Turning and flipping the laces. Tying them off. The job not perfect but it will hold and there’s a noise in his throat, a side eye of green as she finds a new perch upon his shoulder.
           “V’hat?”
        “No’din’, luv. No’din’ ah’ all.”
who embarrassed their kid for fun:
n/a
who’s the over protective one:
Home. The one place they are safest. The one place that all that know better will would not dare. Even those displaced and vanquished by heirs taking back what was rightfully theirs. Yet still is he ever vigilent. Yet still does he keep his eye upon all that he can. His ears peeled for the slightest bit of rhythm out of place. his nose keen to any and all that’s scent is brought upon the breeze. Yet even half gods can be fallible. Can be distracted. Can  be caught unaware. Though perhaps it takes a godly kind to see it done.
Yet the reaction is no less harsh. No less quick. No less void of any cautionary mercy that he might have once shown. Teeth born as his children are pulled back from the invading shadow amid the back garden. The resonating growl that travels hot and burning like the last rays of the sun that’s sinking beneath the horizon. And in response comes only an equally resonating bout of amusement. An equal kind of harshness that draws from the cold and the void verses the light of day.
         “What do you want?”
A word.
Ever so suddenly are his children herded behind him, from where they’ve crept to stare over the edge of the back garden wall. Stare at the single figure that has risen from the swaying tall grass. Dark as the night will soon be and just as void like. Green that narrows at the sight, orders the children back inside. Their mother hushing them when they ask if it is the boogie man come to eat them. The sun sinking further as he hops the wall and moves to meet the shadow half way.
While behind him windows are shut and barred. Children are herded into the depths of their father’s library. Hidden beneath the flooring in a place they are told never to go. Bayed to be still and speak not a sound. The silence pressing as fear takes hold. Fear of what it is their mother so worries for and what it is that has come to call upon their father. But not a sound do they make. Not a peep. Shallow breathes as tiny ears burn to hear anything at all beyond the confines of this strong hold.
who’s the “take a sweater!” parent:
Going to town we’ll be back later!
           “Hold i’!”
         Aw Papa c’mo--
A single lift of a brow rises. The flittering of wings to click of heels behind them. Annoyance dragging itself across their features as only teenagers are capable of.
           “Curfew?”
         Eleven...we know.
            “Rules?”
No showin’ off. No talkin’ o’bou’...things.
            “An’?”
A pause as they cast a glance at each other. And? What had they missed.
               “Jackets. It is cold.”
A shake of material behind them that draws their gaze. A small relief on their faces before the articles of outwear are taken and pulled on. A duet of voices ringing out as they hurry out the door before their parents can think of anything else to delay them. A fine cloud of dust that follows them down the lane out of sight. Green and gold watching them go with only so much apprehension.
