i kinda ended up disconnecting from his Design as a Whole and the alt palette didn't really fix it but nonetheless he's never leaving my possession. it's weird cause my brain can really only connect fully to one character per Thing/Setting as a Sona who is Me so ever since splitting off into otter I don't feel FULLY connected to either the way I once did to surli :( but I am experimenting with having multiple sonas and maybe ill try that thing people do where they also do sonas for different Aspects of themselves so I don't just have an army of Normal Nice Blonds

he was a bit of an experiment in "CAN I have more than one fursona?" and also "CAN I make a sona who isn't Exactly Like Me?" i've always seen people whose sonas have Supernatural Elements and been like how can you do that. I respect it so much but if EYE am a normal human person how can I connect to something with strange abilities and qualities. and I still couldn't go so far as like... my friend whose sona is an honest to god several stories tall kaiju with a backstory and shit, but lee has supernatural luck and a connection to/control of storms/lightning because that's sick and awesome and cool. and also glows and has cool antlers when he wants. he's not as me as the others but he's there and he's not... NOT me?

unfortunately I DO love his stupid ass. you know how sometimes in a comic or animated show there'll be some obscure reference to one of the creators or someone on the team like as a gag that goes over most people's heads well he's supposed to be that. his appearance is me at my worst (needs haircut + shave) and he has the OP superpower of putting people in pocket dimensions of altered reality he controls entirely but he ONLY uses it to make stupid filler bottle episodes like They All Have To Play Softball or Beach Episode or whatever. represents my oft-abused ability as a creator to Put Those Guys in a Situation. he's not so much a sona (cause if I made a silver city sona it would be genuine not this greasy freak) but he sure is Representative of Me.

coasty woasty... made for the nephfei world for the spinxyn closed species. first closed species sona ive ever had and i think hes neat! nephfei is such a well designed world that is really conducive to stories and characters influencing each other's arcs but coast is just some guy he's just there. he just lives there and minds his own business. (he has no gifts or curses so nothing really requiring a Story) but maybe i should get him some Friends at least maybe i can have a sona who has Story OC Friends from other people and still be like yes thats me if i was friends with everybody's ocs

it was suggested since I have a very hard time being In Character (i get so self conscious) that I start with a character similar to myself! so august is incredibly Just Me FR. if i were to go on an adventure i would be bad at it and terrified. his campaign is suspended due to Life but i accidentally, due to knowing nothing, picked a pretty OP blend of stats that has made him bizarrely competent (not like. the best in the party or anything but he really can hold his own and once like critted twice and turned invisible and flew and killed a dragon) and honestly that's hilarious and I like it for him

Ok so like I pulled up right and I knew it was gon be GOOD, but IT WAS GOODER THAT GOOD???? After I watched rise I was like mkmk yea there’s NO WAY they can make them more teenager-y But they Did.

My friend my love told me that they told the VA to change the script if they wanted to and if they thought it was more relevant and honestly? BEST DECISION EVER

U can feel however u want abt the movie but I will Fight You about the relevancy of it so bad, like something that media tends to focus on capturing is the Present, the feeling of the very moment “insert thing” happens, and the relevancy of certain situations in certain times. It’s the very reason why nostalgia hits so hard, because it is capturing the feeling of being right there in that moment, and so effortlessly

That’s what I felt watching the movie, THEY LITERALLT SAID RIZZ AND SUS, and I never in my LIFE thought I’d hear that in an ACTUAL OFFICIAL MOVIE, I just KNOW history scholars are gonna psycho analyze every reference they make

ALSO I ADORE SPLINTER SO SO SO MUCHANJAJASJKEKNX, I love seeing just-became-a-father splinter it’s AKJSNDNX. I really really love the angle they took with him, and him seeing himself reflected in superfly and how being so strict hurts his kids because it doesn’t let them explore options or themselves fully, even if he really does think he’s right

ALSO HIM AND SCUMBAG AKAJNSNSNX IT WAS SO CUTEEEE IT KILLED MEEE

AND OH GOD near the end when superfly had the turtles and was abt to like snap them and I saw the broken shells I, no kidding, screamed. THE AMOUNT OF ANGST IVE CONSUMED THAT HAS HAD BROKEN SHELLS AS ONE OF ITS MAIN PLOTS AOQJJWNSNX, it was WILDDD having it canon ngl

Overall all the characters, like every single one, felt so fleshed out and real, it was genuinely so refreshing. I love how media now focuses on capturing raw human states instead of the heavily filtered beauty standard that our societies have for so long clung to. I think future generations being able to see that will really heal some of the damage being “chronically online” can cause

April had SUCH GOOD STYLE and I loved her :) because the plot was so heavy I almost expected a lot of the characters to not have an arc at all, so I was real surprised when splinter and April realized what they did was hurting ppl. The writers were REAL good at keep the plot semi-un-crowded despite how much was going on

Again, THE HUMOR WAS SO SO PRESENT DAY AKAJWJENNX

I loved Raph LIKE ALWAYS and how they made him an angry mf w/o making it against his brothers, and just making it as just how he is, I thought it was so nice to have an iteration where he keeps his spark without making it harmful to those he cares abt (his outfit at the end was so very fire it was my fav)

Mikey was so so sweet, I love whenever he’s both a goofy goober but also one of the most empathetic ones, the hope and kindness in his eyes <33

DONNIE WAS SO RADDDD, the VA did SUCH a good job, he has my fav voice and overall he was so cool in character too, freaking out abt the attack on titan doodle was so me and I love seeing a representation of what non-toxic fandom looks like that wasn’t seen as a problem or as meant to be looked down on, bro just loves k-pop and anime!!!

Leo was AMAZINFGGGT, they kept his leader persona and his want to take responsibility and decency without making him an ass !!! And for someone who grew up with 2012 Leo that’s something I was REALLY at awe at

It’s also the first turtle x human ship i don’t hate, they didn’t make Leo be CREEPY ASF LIKE W 2012 DONNIE, but he was still a hormonal teenager having a real crush and they were still friends

Superfly character was so rad too, the way he spoke and carried himself was really interesting to look at and I thought it was so cool, I love villains that have actual stories, AND BABY HIM WAS SO CUTEEEEE, wish we got more sibling content on him and his crew tho, but that’s very me nitpicking

I love when tmnt doesn’t do orientalism :))) it’s very hard to avoid in iterations cause of the very foundation of tmnt, but I take it as a major W whenever we get a decent story(USUALLY AMAZING STORIES) that doesn’t rely on “oooohhhh mystery ninja stuff ooooooo” to make a compelling “aesthetic”

I also loved how Baxter stockman looked, and the turtle tots, the animation was OUT OF THIS WORLDDD, I rlly love how, as artists, we accept more diverse styles rather than just sticking to realism being the standard, because it allows for stuff like this to happen!!! And the scribbles added so much to the world ownqnnsndndjxjx I’ll rewatch it over and over again just for the art style

And also when Leo call himself leon IT MADE ME SO HAPPY BC LIKE LEO IN RISE LIKES LEON TOO IT FELT LIKE A WINK WINK SKSNSNWNMSND not sure if it was tho but it was me giggling and kicking my feet

The plot itself was so good too in the way that it applies to more than mutants, the seeking of acceptance is something really really relatable in so many contexts: neurodivergence, queerness, immigration, and so so so much more????? It’s one of my fav things of most tmnt iterations, its themes carry on to other contexts, not just to the specific story being told. This is what leads it to being so attractive to so many audiences

The music was very atsv and I thought it was so rad, it’s always nice to watch a movie that has that kinda soundtrack, especially in urban settings it’s a lot more fitting than an orchestra (sometimes, or at least I think)

By the time me movie was over with the BADASS SHREDDER APPEARANCE I lost control of my body and was just happy stimming violently and my friends just kinda 🧍‍♂️ at me, and they got the same rant u just read but even more messy, if that’s possible

I’m proud to have mutant mayhem as an official tmnt iteration, and I’m proud of the work that’s been done, and I hope to in the future maybe somehow contribute to a version too!!

the sprites too, the lip sync was weird at first but these odd animation clip sprites?? they're honestly quite endearing acually. the way everyone is drawn is really appealing. junpei looks a little akward next to everyone else sometimes but beyon that.

umm the modes thing is. weird but i have learned this is bcs of porting issues and it wsa cooler on the ds. i wish i could play it on the ds but i think thatd be like. 200 dollar or somethin so steam port it is. im just sticking to novel =)

speaking of, the narration in the novel mode is really good, its very compelling.

been thinking about this guy a lot. dont read under the cut if you dont want persona 4 spoilers or dont want to hear me talk about how i used to wish this guy would do nasty things to me because of my trauma

first of all this is not a character analysis this is my very personal relationship with the character. second of all this is normally the kind of thing i would put on my private instagram but my roommate is currently playing p4 & i dont want him to get spoiled. so sorry that youre subjected to this i guess. anyways.

recently something ive realized about myself is that i am a HOPELESS romantic. i require something to pour my affections into. & if that isnt a person WELL its gonna be a fictional character. for me the adachi blorboism started right after i ended my first real “relationship”. i say “relationship” because it was less of that and more of me being groomed by a guy 5 years my senior. unfortunately, this guy was what got me into persona. he asked me to watch the p4 anime with him and that was it for me lmfao.

so wtf does that have to do with adachi. well i didnt think it had ANYTHING to do with him until recently. being in therapy has allowed me to really dissect the way my environment has manifested in my behaviors and atp im confident in saying that getting groomed is pretty much the reason i love adachi so much. groomer man was the literal definition of a nice guy, like i made a nice guys finish last joke to him once & his actual response was “but it’s true though…” and he was SO bummed when adachi was revealed to be the mastermind. he was all “ooouuhhhh it sucks because he was such a good character before that”

so i got out of that relationship, had clarity over the fact that he had been manipulating me the entire time, got my hands on my own copy of p4 (i had still only seen the anime & played arena atp) and when i got to adachi’s monologue i was like. THIS GUY IS AWESOME!!!! HOW IS HE A WORSE CHARACTER FOR THIS!!!! im realizing now that travis (groomer) probably felt very attacked by adachi’s motives. & not only that but that i felt very comforted by how blatantly evil he is. that sounds really weird so let me explain.

i saw (& honestly still see) adachi as someone who’s a product of his environment. he felt trapped & suffocated by inaba, felt mistreated by his superiors at work, and with being given access the tv world found something that he felt he could control, which was fun for him in a world of boredom, of which he felt like the victim. i related a lot to that feeling of being trapped somewhere you can’t escape from (both because of my relationship & at the time living with my parents) and really appreciated his fucked outlook on life. not like. the misogyny part. just the whole “life only favors the lucky ones” sentiment. i also saw him as a much more honest & self-aware version of travis. he knew he was doing bad things to people who didn’t deserve it, and his justifications were just “i was bored”. unlike my ex who probably still sees himself as a victim

idk! i guess the takeaway here is that there’s still so much more to me than i know. im learning new things about myself every day. im very glad to finally be on this journey of self-discovery. ive always been a really introspective person but i dont think i ever asked myself WHY? why am i like this. like actually. so im doing that now. & the answers are actually pretty fucked up! ive always played down my trauma because its what my parents and a lot of my peers did. my “best friend” as a kid (she was honestly just a bully) didn’t believe me when i told her that my parents fought. like it was so much worse than i allowed myself to believe. i played down getting groomed because I wasn’t like r*ped or anything (he touched me with my permission but no insertion happened idk if that counts as r*pe) but whenever i tell people that my parents were not only okay with it but allowed him to come visit me from Canada and STAY AT MY HOUSE….they are always shocked. because thats so fucked up! like… what!

honestly I feel like cahiers are decent with posca because theyre not really absorbent and posca marks tend to sit on the page as opposed to soaking through anyways. umm i wouldnt like... use it to do a whole posca piece or anything but i use poscas just for pops of color in my sketchbook pretty often and it holds up ok. sometimes u can see the shadow of the color through the paper bc its thin but thats mostly it. i took pics of some sketchbook pgs and how the back of the page looks so you can see for yourself ( cw for bakudeku LOL ) ...theres a lot of like.. normal brush pen ink and india ink that penetrates the paper more like even compared to the black posca

I feel like I’ve probably talked about this before in another ask post but i dont really think about style because its one of those things that artists should try to change depending upon intention, what you’re drawing and what you want to communicate etc. what people often recognize as style are quirks that an artist maintains throughout changing their subject and approach.....ANYWAYS. thats all to say my style probably just comes out of normal stuff like looking at other art and thinking “I want to do that” or trying out different mediums and methods and settling with whatever feels the best LOL. It’s always changing & growing! Because I’m always learning new stuff!

Theres a lot! I really like the scene when daisukes lying awake in bed thinking abt how ken’s heartbeat felt. And the scene when they have a sleepover and ken wakes up first and looks over to daisuke sleeping LOL idk subtle stuff you can read very clearly as like burgeoning queer moments.. theyre recognizable from my own queer childhood and i love that in a kids anime. also at the end of the series when theyre fighting the final boss dude and ken grabs daisukes arm to ask him to jogress but hes shivering and daisuke just turns to say “youre shaking....” and in revenge of diaboromon when ken goads daisuke into endurance running by taunting him about soccer LOL (jock romance). but one i rly want to mention is theres this youtube video about how ken and daisuke’s honorifics change over the course of the series and how significant it is when they switch over to first name basis and honestly i think about it a lot THEY HAVE GREAT SCENES!! I love ken and daisuke

.... Why is he purple? His color scheme is usually green or brown which... Ya know... Makes sense. Maybe its because "well poison is purple!" But idk I would've preferred him being green. (I think they made him purple cause of that one official art where he has blood on his face? He also has one appearance where his robe is purple but I would still have preferred green)

I hate that his robe is like... Ripped over his body? I know its a stylistic choice but he'd never rip his robe me thinks.

I love that he carries his sword! Years and years ago I pointed out to a friend that scarm carries a sword with a red sheath in some of his official artworks. I always figured it was the deathbringer sword because it was red in one of the early versions of ffiv. (Note: it's been a few years so idk if I'm right but like... Deathbringer has a chance to KO your enemies which?? Is perfect for him??)

I really dislike his voice. I'm sorry but he sounds like an early 2000s cartoon snake. Its nothing like his original voice and I'm sad about that. (Never mind that his original voice sounds like he's yelling in lower caps. I like to think he struggles hearing thus the semi yelling)

Something tiiiny that bugged me a LOT was that he called his zombies his "minions"... Now in the iv he says "it is time for my precious undead to feast", if I recall correctly he also calls them his children at some point. Now... My opinion is influenced by my head canons obviously but... They're not his minions. YOURE HONOR THEYRE HIS BABIES AND HE LOVES THEM!!

I appreciate that he has his tentacles! But did you know they're not actually tentacles? They're mammoth tusks, as stated in the ultimania archive. (The ultimania archive also states that he always hides food on his person which <3<3 that's adorable. Oh and his supplements his body with dead animal flesh lmao) Though I honestly don't blame them for getting that wrong.

obligatory forgotten land ramble post

GOD. mind if i ramble about kirby and the forgotten lands ending. because holY SHIT. i know i beat the game like in march when the game came out but that doesnt matter. in this essay i will

now let me just say, i came into this game thinking that maybe the ending would be less insane, yknow, cause new game, new beginning n stuff, may wanna take it easy a little, NOPE. not at ALL WHAT HAPPENS. and honestly? i am sO glad they took this route dude.

during the lab discovera elevator scene i was literally trembling, just.. i KNEW this id-f86 creature was gonna be some horrific eldrich abomination we were gonna have to fight and i was TERRIFIED. like, the genuine terror they created in this scene is fucking immaculate. and the jaunty happy little elevator remix of the main theme just adds to it, just makes the scene all the more unsettling, and i fucking loved every last second of it.

then when i walk into the ominous glowing door i am greeted with THIS son of a bitch:

this thing struck genuine fear into my heart and what made this even SCARIER for me was because I didn't see that elfilin was safely locked away in another container right next to forgo, so i thought this thing was a horribly mutated fucked up elfilin. yeah

honestly i kind of wondered what it would be like if that were the case, because the idea of the cute happy little big eared creature you've spent most of your adventure with being mutated into this fetus-like abomination would have been absolutely HORRIFYING.

oh yeah, and about that! WHY DID HAL PUT A LITERAL FETUS IN THEIR GAME HOLY SHIT

honestly ive found fetus imagery in a horror context is just. YES. so good. i LOVE kirby's horror side just as much as the cute cuddly happy side, best of both worlds, but i digress

side note: unpopular opinion but leon's battle theme actually SLAPS its seriously underrated and for what

anyways back on track, i LOVE the emotion leongar's voice actor put into his voice clips, like he genuinely sounds like hes in EXTREME amounts of pain with his attacks, especially in the first phase, and. AUGHGHGH THIS GAME /POS

oh yeah. none of this fucking COMPARES to the cutscene after all this. and just. the fact that forgo is so angry with you it doesnt even care about its plan anymore. it just wants to kill kirby at that point. so it talks THROUGH LEONS BODY (i headcanon this wasn't even leongar's voice, it was just flat out forgo's voice) and just. the way forgo talks is also terrifying like. holy fuck

and the DETAIL they put into its eyes, it really just adds to it all, like it looks so realistic and horrifying. i know kirby games get dark, i've been a longtime fan but holy SHIT this entire ending is comparable to zero ripping its fucking eye out.

oh and the flesh wall. ooooOOOOOOHOHOOOOOOHOO BOY DO NOT GET ME STARTED ON THE FLESH WALL.

I made it back from Thanksgiving weekend. Sister hosted but we stayed with mom. I didnt really take any photos or do anything artistic.

Me and the husband did drive around the area quite a bit. Did some window shopping. We did a family escape room in a star trek themed room and escaped with 14 minutes left. Not the best escape room we've ever done but definitely not the worst. I feel like it should have been bigger, it was really only a single room (sort of). Then again if it was bigger we wouldnt have escaped. I think there may have been some room issues because I felt like they were giving us a lot of hints before and during when we didnt ask for them. However atleast it was like..set quality designed. Ive done some escape rooms where they were literally made by college students and its like "eeeeeh". I like the immersive ones (no offense students).

We also went to go see Strange World which I only knew existed because of animation twitter. Literally havent seen any promotion for it. It was only ok. It wasnt a terrible movie by any means and it had a family message directed at father and sons. I just honestly think I wanted a disney stereotype formulaic movie. That may not be original or artistic but its a moment of fun times in a world of doom and gloom. I support the message, I just wanted to escape reality of doom and gloom and have fun instead...if that makes sense? Not that the movie was depressing or ended sadly but the message was blatant. And not that commercialism is a necessity in life but none of the characters would make good merchandise which is funny because there is a joke about merchandising in the movie

So yes, nothing wrong with the movie, I didnt look up what it was about before hand and went in blind, but it wasn't a movie that filled a gap in my life or that I ever need to see again.

The movie theater however wow. I complain everytime I go home with how much Knoxville has grown since I left. The last time I was in this theater I think was when Tangled came out and back then it was a "regular theater". Theyve done major reservations in previous years and it was fancy.

Otherwise the Christmas spirit is strong with me and Ive been listening to music and watching cheesey movies daily. The shops had lots of stuff I could see me buying if I was 1. Still employed and didnt feel guilty and 2. Had room to haul it cross country.

We got a phonecall on the way to Thanksgiving saying we do have a house assigned to us but it wont be ready until closer to christmas so now we suddenly have a lot of free time in a hotel once we turn in our apt keys.

heroine runs the show 

From the beginning the premise is super generic and cliched, but i got into it because i really like girls with thick eyebrows lol I was rooting for Hiyori since before the show started so thats why i stuck around for so long. (also zakki and ucchi but going into anime for seiyuu is a rookie mistake)

Anyway, the only difference from this being a Sold To One Direction fanfic is that its one girl and Two guys, or, iunno, not one on one. I was WAITING for a subplot where at least one of them fall for her, but it never came and they were all strictly platonic. (but if it did become a romance then it had to be an ot3 because i dont make the rules) im not counting the times where hiyori would accidentally get dokis from them because that shit Happens For Real but doesnt have to mean anything

Hiyori best girl and i dont regret ever rooting for her. Im glad her one time make over wasnt permanent because that would take away from her entire personality. Love that shes a sports junky but also modest and does her best. love her, best girl.

Kinda wish they had an episode with hiyori getting a one one one with the guys because they never really separate the LipxLip. I honestly dont even remember their names, i just call them Ucchi and Zakki. I get its because theyre supposed to be a cohesive unit despite their actual personalities but i never really got to know the guys too much because theyre either always together or always picking on hiyori the same, so they might as well have been one person. Iunno

Ucchi being the Older Brother for once HAS ME WEAK. IM HHHHHHHHHHH cuz normally he would have been the younger brother acting tsundere and Yuujiro calling his bro adorable IM FFFFFFFFFFFF

I love the friendship with the girls, Juri is queen (ive been super weak for gyaru charas lately) and when I got to ep 11 I was as devastated as hiyori. Would i have seen the plot twist coming? I had some suspicions when the pictures were close shots of the group but I never thought it would have been Chizuru being Chuutan and The One Girl that they showed off several times. Hiyori had no need to apologize or feel bad because Chizuru had been the one hiding it the whole time. Maybe yeah she could feel bad about her job being confidential but she literally did nothing wrong. 

Also we got to see girls shouting and talking shit and punching each other so the show would already deserve a 10/10

I know the side characters are probably characters from HoneyWorks other music videos (the track senpai and her childhood friend, aizo’s bro and his tsundere girlfriend, i recognize the blond twins from several videos.) Love Hiroyi and Mona friendship too. Hiyori is an idol magnet by accident lol. Would have liked to see more of Juri and her BF because Im also weak for megane/gyaru type ships but it wasnt ever necessary. 

Hayami Saori (Chizuru) sounds a Lot like Chico when she sings so its very HoneyWorks like but i think thats just a coincidence.

In the end, i still think idols/idol concept/culture is major cringe and its not something i would ever really be into but i enjoyed the show all in all for the characters and relationships and growth

schlatt doesnt talk about himself. ever. does he have. a name? did his parents name him? does he have parents? the level of privacy he has after being a youtuber for over 6 years is impressive and kind of scary. i literally could not tell you anything about this man outside of his streaming career. it kind of makes you think something is off with him, like he got bullied as a child, or maybe he stabbed a man. i think noah hugbox described it best in the meeting lunch club video - “its like that man was the first step in human evolution. its like he crawled out of the ocean / he has a deep dark secret. something eating him up inside“

When it comes to actual astro boy anime series, there's 3 main ones: the 60s anime, the 80s anime and the 2003 one

The 2003 anime is the most recent, popular and accessible one, I recommend getting it from this blog https://astroboy2003sub.tumblr.com/ because essentially every version you'll find in anime websites has broken almost unintelligible subs half way through, the animation in it is honestly gorgeous and holds up better than a lot of modern shows right now

The 80s anime is also good and my personal favourite one because of how cheesy it is, however the 2nd episode of it is notoriously missing in most anime sites, there will be places that have it and others that don't (it is also the last version of astro boy Tezuka was involved with since he passed in the 80s sadly)

The 60s anime (the japanese version at least) is really hard to come by, I torrented it aeons ago from a site that went down and dont think ive found the episodes anywhere else...the anime itself is kind of a total mess but it's still funny to watch lol

A thing I do want to advice though is that please watch the subbed versions and not the dubs, I'm not saying this cause im some sort of sub over dub elitist but because dubbed versions of astro boy are always very heavily censored, have a lot of scenes cut out and the stories are straight up rewritten to the point you actually miss huge chunks of the show, the 2003 anime is infamous for removing/rewriting a lot of the heavier and most emotional scenes

There are also 2 major spin offs manga that are pretty good starting points:

Pluto by Naoki Urasawa, it's a re-interpretation of a chapter called 'The Greatest Robot on Earth' from the original manga, this manga centers around a robot policeman investigating a set of murders and honestly, its actually my favourite manga ever and the reason I got into astro boy to begin with, it is actually pretty mature and serious compared to any other astro boy related work also Atom still appears in it but is not the main character, an anime adaptation was announced a few years ago but we still don't have any info about it so..here's to that

and lastly there's Atom the Beginning, which is what most people have probably seen me talking about since right now its the only astro boy related series that has been active for the past years and it's still an on-going manga, basically its a story that takes place 30 years before the beginning of astro boy that focuses on Dr.Tenma (Atom's creator) and Dr. Ochanomizu (who ends becoming Atom's guardian since Tenma goes insane afterwards lmao) as university students researching AI, tbh I don't know how beginner friendly this series is because it has some pretty direct connections to the original AB manga and one of the best things about it is to catch all those references, but I have some friends that got into astro boy from it so I'll put it here too

also Tenma and Ochanomizu have this thing where they just squeeze each other's noses at random times and its cute and not weird at all!

i should mention the english translation is super behind from the japanese release and there's actually an anime adaptation too but it's like 90% filler and barely follows the story of the manga lol, still a good watch if you wanna see some animated nose honking

I should mention there's also always the original astro boy manga too but I don't actually know if its that beginner friendly since it's kinda messy to get into, since Tezuka rewrote and scrapped chapters so many times, nobody knows the actual chronology of the chapters and has a lot of consistency issues, still some chapters are REALLY good and some chapters are kinda insane lol

Keep in mind every iteration of astro boy changes the story a bit (or sometimes a lot) but its just fun to watch the stories be retold or interepreted in different ways

It ended up having the best mc ive ever seen, well written character relationships and development, an actual true found family good god and especially the art/animation is phenomenal. there's obv a lot more but these are its main selling points for me

I definitely can't choose a fav side character ToT) I honestly love all of them but Teru is my sis' blorbo which means obligatory bias. He's so fucking funny but he's kinda tied with Ekubo. Or even Ritsu. Or Serizawa. Or-

i love your ambition! but I'm limiting this to top 5 and worst 5 plus comments for my own sanity. since there are 24 Bound and a sum total of 34 named characters who appear (with model) in both games

WOW this ended up biased a lot towards p1. in my defense p1 is better and has better characters with better designs haha

p1 rubin: rubin's size is important and by god did the character designers make the most of it. his leather outfit is A) unique, B) fairly practical, and C) homosexual (in a loving men way and an outcast breaking societal rules about bodies due to necessary and innate circumstances way), emphasizing how despite All That he leans into his own distinctiveness and trusts his abilities. it all contributes to a clear concept of his background and motivations- you can tell he's gone through a lot for his age, even while his head scar usually can't be seen without fly mode or parkour. special note to the animation where he raises his arm to match the medical poster on his wall... overall so so lovingly well done. (p2 rubin: to be discussed later)

p1 anna: just such a visually solid and interesting figure! her hair went through a lot of development stages and I think the blond wig deserves its final spot, both as a representation of her character & as a design capstone... I really love the texture and detail on her face it's just totally contradicted by the game saying she's 18. (p2 anna: give her shoes for God's sake. I can't abide like this. Decent coat but it obscures so much potential)

p1 andrey: perfect. the desaturated color of his long coat matches really nicely with his white clothing, and who can resist a guy with spurs. his red eyeshadow genuinely iconic for our 1 canon bisexual man. only complaint is I think his handkerchief was too hard to see in the game and could've been made more distinctive (p2 andrey: the color coordination gets soooo unbalanced with his chest out. #boyboss but it's really not fun to look at him)

both vlad jrs: the designers did an INCREDIBLE job of representing young vlad through his clothing, height, and mannerisms, as an anxious, unlikeable young man under a lot of pressure who tries to do his best while espousing deeply fucked up ideals... evidenced by the success of tai lopez vlad and the number of comments ive seen saying "he looks libertarian" this is stellar character design

p1 lara: her crying cat face... again a really coherent design, the purple/olive layered clothing is distinctive and pleasant to the eye. I especially like the embroidery as a hint of textile history in the patho setting and a reflection of the Town's gender roles. her hair's lovely and the sturdy boots are a perfect allusion to her family history & willingness to take action (p2 lara: hate looking at her :( they smoothed her face they took away her details. she has nothing distinctive except implausible hair physics)

2bin (p2 rubin): gets his own separate paragraph because I despise him. he looks bad I think it's perfectly in line with how deeply the writers fucked up his motivation and character but he loses so many points for his plastic looking bald head texture. doesn't even get to keep the scar! his eyes also get lightened 50% which is a baffling choice (although 2's engine is awful at displaying dark eyes anyhow)

p2 eva: sighing and moaning and sobbing. "this woman 'dresses' in skimpy and half-undone clothing because it adds to her appropriation of the kin's customs character" it really doesn't. concept art had a lovely nose but it's not IN the game. miserable. might I add the 3 primary colors are a nice attempt but not adequately balanced with yellow, which is jarring (p1 eva: honestly I do think her attire makes sense for her character in this one, and the gold/white color coordination is lovely. narrowly missed the top 5 bc she also needs shoes)

p1 victor: literally the most nothing man. guess you don't need a "character design" when you sit behind a desk anytime you're not being observed. kind of works with his being underestimated in the story but Man (p2 victor: yay he has visual personality now :) the details like his torn shirt add a lot, but they /are/ details that are sort of hard to catch)

p1 khan: off the top of my head I can't remember anything about how he looks, which is usually bad from a character design standpoint. he's an important figure and a leader of imaginative children, so it feels really jarring to have him in average normal clothing (p2 khan: also a big improvement! p2 did a lot with the Kain family resemblance, and his attire mirroring and diverging from his estranged father's slaps... however khan's haircut feels odd given the setting)
