Terms of Endearment (Natasha Romanoff x reader)

Warnings: mentions of insecurity/self depreciating thoughts, not really hurt/comfort but also kind of?? Idk

You and your girlfriend Natasha had always been fond of using petnames for each other, often more so than your actual names themselves. Whether it be honey, sweetheart, darling, or simply just babe, you never ran out of cutesy names to call each other. But as much as you loved hearing the never ending abundance of pet names roll off Natasha's tongue, what you didn't love was how often you got teased for it.

You knew the other members of the team didn't mean anything by it and would stop if they knew how much it upset you, but the problem was you didn't really have a good reason for feeling that way. It seemed silly just thinking about it, childish even. So you kept your mouth shut, laughing along at their meaningless jokes as you made yourself a promise to cut down on the cheesy nicknames.

You hoped Natasha wouldn't notice the lack endearing terms on your part, but she did, of course. She always noticed the small things nobody else picked up on. It came with the job description of being an assassin.

Although she'd noticed it, she couldn't understand why there was a sudden change in your behavior, especially when she knew how much you loved the petnames you had for each other.

Because of this, she cut down on the petnames, too, and only used them when you were alone, hoping maybe she could solve the problem that way, even if she didn't know what it was.

It all came it a head one day when you were cooking together. It was just the two of you, everyone else either busy or in another part of the Avengers base.

Natasha was standing by the stove, making some sort of soup. "Малыш, could you hand me the salt?" She asked after tasting it and realizing it needed something.

The way you tensed up at the name she used for you did not fly past her, and it caused her to let out a small sigh. "Are you okay? You haven't been using nearly as many petnames for me as you used to, and I've noticed whenever I use them you seem... upset. Even when we're alone."

You let out a sigh yourself, knowing it wouldn't do you any good to lie about it. "I... I was hoping you wouldn't notice." You began meekly, looking down.

Natasha had a slight frown on her face as she turned towards you fully. "And why is that?" Her tone was gentle, but firm. It was clear she wasn't going to let you leave without some sort of explanation.

"It- its not you. Or me. Its the others," you confess quietly. "I didn't really like the way they teased me whenever I called you honey or babe, so I stopped all together."

She nodded her head, the pieces suddenly falling into place. "Ah, so that's why. At first, I thought I'd done something to tick you off." She joked, it making her heart warm to hear the laugh that came from you after.

"No, it wasn't that, and even if it was, you know I could never stay mad at you." You said playfully, finally handing her the salt.

She took it from you and added some to the pot on the stove before speaking again. "I'll talk to everybody, and tell them to lay off on the teasing, that way you won't have to worry about it anymore."

You gave her a loving smile, your tone filled with gratitude. "Thanks, hon."

She smiled back at the petname before giving you a soft kiss. "Of course, darling. Anything for you."

You bite at your lip to refrain from grinning as you return your eyes to the page. “Okay, well…I think you’re good for tomorrow’s scene. I mean, it’s kind of all about her, anyway, so…no one will really be paying attention to you.”

“Gee, thanks,” he snorts as he straightens up on the small couch, tossing the script to the side.

“Hey, am I wrong?” You blink. “Hello. Florence fucking Pugh is in the same frame, I guarantee you nobody is looking at you.”

“Oh, well, I’m flattered,” he retorts, hand coming up to his chest in faux appreciation. “No, really. Give me another compliment. I think I’m blushing.”

Your eyes roll playfully as you gingerly chuck a water bottle at him. It flies across the tiny trailer and whacks him in the stomach as he flinches, laughing as it falls into his lap. “Hysterical. Truly,” you bite back. “Been a movie star for five minutes and think you’re the shit.”

He tosses his arms along the back of the couch, settling in a bit further as he nods at you. “S’been at least ten minutes, love.”

“Right, and to this day, iCarly is still your best work.”

“…you know what, I’m not even gonna argue with you on that one. I really did shine.”

“Oh, absolutely.”

“Sucked the shit out of that water bottle.”

“You really did.”

“Oscar-worthy, I’d say.”

“Abso-fucking-lutely.”

He eyes you from his spot, sensing your teasing tone, and before you can clock his sneaky intentions, he’s lifting the water bottle into the air, twisting off the cap, and flinging the water at you.

You gasp as the water effectively drenches your hair, face, and chest. You attempt to shield yourself by throwing your arms up, but it’s too late, and Harry lets out a deep, guttural laugh.

“Oh, you dick,” you squeal, immediately standing as you throw him a peeved look. “See, this is why I don’t take you home to my mother.”

He’s wearing a shit-eating grin as he watches you scramble to the bathroom. “Oops.”

“Oops my ass.” You attempt to wring some of the water out of your hair as you glance at your reflection in the tiny mirror. “I can’t go out there and let Chris Pine see me like this!”

Another laugh. “Why not?”

“Because I love him and I have mascara dripping down my face,” you huff, swiping a knuckle under your eye. “Oh, God, this is bad. Okay, gimme five, I gotta reset.”

“Babe,” he calls with another chuckle. “You look fine—”

“Bite me!” you retort quickly before slamming the door shut. “Shit! Where’s my setting powder?”

You hear him snort to himself from the other side but soon turn your attention back to the canvas that he so elegantly ruined.

It had taken you twenty minutes to get the eyeliner wing this sharp.

You frown as you get to work, and for the next couple of minutes, your focus remains on your own reflection as you hear Harry humming to himself on the couch.

And then…the humming stops.

“Hey…?”

“Hey, so sorry to bother you. I just wanted to check in before you leave, make sure you’re doing all right with the revisions.”

You pause, leaning a bit closer to the door as a second voice enters the trailer.

“Oh…yeah. Went over it this afternoon. I like it, it sounds good. I think it’ll be really impactful.”

“Oh, good. Good, yeah. Yeah, I’m really looking forward to watching you and Florence bring it to life. I’ve said it before, but we really are just so lucky to have you both on board.”

You finally recognize the voice, placing it to the face of the film’s director, Angela. And now that your curiosity is satisfied, you return to your task as the conversation continues to slip underneath the door.

“Hey, it’s all thanks to your vision,” Harry is humbly responding. “I just feel lucky to be a part of it.”

A bit of silence as you swipe your lipstick along your bottom lip before you hear the sound of footsteps climbing up the stairs and into the trailer.

“You’re such a doll. No, really, that’s such a kind to say,” Angela gushes. “You know…this whole casting process was really just…it was so stressful there for a minute but after I saw your audition tape, I just knew you’d be our Jack.”

“Listen, I’m just glad it worked out the way it did. It’s kind of nice to dip my toe into this side of the industry and I’ve got a lot of really great mentors to help me along.”

“Oh, absolutely. I mean, we just have such a fantastic cast. You’re in great hands.”

A beat.

“And, you know, I’ve said this before but…if you ever need anything at all, you just need to let me know,” Angela says. “You’re my top priority, and I want to make sure you feel taken care of.”

“Thanks, that’s really—”

Suddenly, it goes quiet. Far too quiet and for a moment, you wonder if they’ve left the trailer altogether.

You step out of the bathroom and glance both ways, just to check and make sure he didn’t leave you behind.

But instead of an empty trailer, you find Harry.

And Angela.

And her tongue.

Down his throat.

Your eyebrows just about fly off your forehead as you clear your throat and call, “I’m sorry. Am I interrupting something?”

Terrified, and a bit pale, Harry leans back and catches your eye, expression frazzled like a deer caught in headlights.

Angela, however, is a bit slower to remove herself from his body, finally stepping back with a bit of a wounded smile. “Oh, my gosh…I’m so sorry. This…this isn’t how I wanted you to find out, I—”

“Find what out?” you ask just as Harry says, “I’m sorry, what?”

She quickly looks between you both, palm hovering over her mouth as if stunned. “Oh! I’m…I’m sorry, I thought you told her.”

“Told me what?” you repeat, stepping closer, and looking to Harry.

Poor thing looks like he’s about to keel over.

“About…our…arrangement,” she answers shyly, and your eyes narrow.

Harry blinks. “We…what? What arrangement, I—”

“Oh. That arrangement. Got it,” you cut in, nodding as you finally put the pieces together.

Both Harry and Angela turn to look at you, surprised.

“Yeah,” you agree, taking another step as you meet her eye. “Yeah, no. Florence told me about this thing you do where you try to fuck your actors and exploit them for fame. Oh, and how your entire marriage is a sham, and you’re trying to get out of it by pretending you were the innocent, bad-ass feminist just trying to do her job when you were blackmailed into sleeping with your costar.”

She swallows as Harry’s jaw nearly drops.

“Oh, she also told me that if I were to find you…arranging yourself on my man, then I should remind you of section 15, paragraph 3 of the contract you signed,” you add, arms crossing over your chest. “Does that…ring any bells?”

Her cheeks flush. “Look, I wasn’t trying to—”

“I’m sure,” you hum. “But you did, and now you’re done. Thank you so much for stopping by. Buh-bye now.”

And with that, you gesture toward the door.

A rather petrified Angela stands to her feet, knees a bit wobbly as she makes her way for the exit.

And just before she can close the door, you call, “Oh, and just a little tip…when you see the officers? Don’t run.”

The door slams shut before you have the chance to see her expression but something tells you…it was everything.

Now, you turn to Harry, still glued to the small sofa. “Anything you have to say for yourself?”

He straightens up, nearly tripping over his tongue as he begins to explain, “I promise, I don’t know what happened, she just put her hand on my thigh and suddenly it was, like, all the way up my thigh, and her mouth was like…right there, and I didn’t know what to do, and I wasn’t sure what was even happening, or if it was part of the script or something, and I—”

You close the gap between you and take his face between your palms. “Harry?”

He winds down to a stop. “…yeah?”

You grin. “I love you.”

Utter relief floods his features as he sighs and melts back into the cushions. “I love you, too. Thank you, by the way. Ironically, she tasted like canned tuna.”

You laugh as you flop down beside him, whacking at his chest on the way down. “Ew. Poor Nick.”

“Right? iCarly would never do this to me.”

For a moment, you can only chuckle, and despite the rather interesting turn of events…you can’t deny your joy.

“No,” you agree with a grin. “No, she would not.”

Summary: When the Hunger Games started, it was clear who Snow wanted to win and in the end, it would be between you and Finnick. But In your bubble, nothing exists but the both of you.

TW: Mention of the Hunger Games, reference to suicide, kissing

The knowledge of death hangs on you like a personal reaper. Constantly looming and always calling to you and Finnick in a horrible and constant wave. The Reaping had been your sentence but with the deal with District 13, there’s a chance you and Finnick will make it out alive. Though that seems like the priority and plan that Snow had in the first place.

Water surrounds you both in tons, always near and never too far away. It was an advantage set just for you both and the rest knew it. It was unfair but it was a good plan, neither of you could make it long without the other. Puppets would be a word of the past and that was what Snow was planning, to make a broken doll out of either of you.

It’s dark in the arena and while Peeta and Katniss are close, you and Finnick could only be described as laying on top of each other. Your legs are tangled together but the way Finnick had you two laying, if either of your allies decided to attack, he could easily get to his trident and protect you. But neither of you have to worry about that at the moment or Finnick doesn’t, with his hand stroking through your hair and his eyes studying your face.

You're sure the people of the Capitol are stunned, now knowing of your relationship with each other. Snow would try and hurt the people that you love, readying either of you to watch as your friends get killed but he wouldn’t be able to get ahold of them at the moment. That was one thing that you wouldn’t let go of until they agreed, your friends—your family had to be safe for this deal to happen.

The hand carding through your hair keeps going but now a hand comes to your face, Finnick’s thumb rubbing over your cheek with eyes filled with nothing but love. “What are you thinking about, sweetheart?” He asks, laying down fully beside you, letting you roll over and place your head on his chest.

Your fingers start tapping on his chest and then slow down to trace his skin through the wet suit that both of you are wearing. “Mags, Annie, and the rest of them,” you say softly and you hope that at this angle, the Capitol has to strain their ears to listen to you. It wouldn’t be the least they could do and in your own way, it would be an almost type of payback from them making you loud enough to hear across the Districts since you’ve won.

The fingers in your hair start scratching lightly and you fall into them, eyes closing at the feeling and you smile at the small laugh that emits from Finnick as he watches you. “They’re fine,” he tells you and you nod.

Pulling away from his fingers, you prop yourself up on his chest. “I’m also thinking about us, about what’s going to happen. Finnick, what if it's down to us?” The question is almost just for the Capitol but, in a way, it’s not. You all still have to take out the Careers and Katniss doesn’t know about the plan. If anything, if you all did end up taking the Careers down then Katniss could remember that you two were a part of them technically and decide to end the alliance right then and there.

A solemn expression crossed his face and Finnick looked at you with knowing eyes. “You know what will happen,” he says and you clench your jaw. Before the deal, before you two knew you were going to make it out, Finnick had told you that if it came down to the both of you, he would make sure you made it no matter what.

You shake your head. “Finnick, no,” you say sternly but even you can hear the small amounts of pleading behind the words.

The look of determination is behind his eyes, it’s the same one that he had when he told you the answer to your question on the train. “I will if I have to.” He scoots a bit, enough for you two to be close enough for him to lean down and touch your forehead with his and when he does, your eyes close. “If it means you’ll live then I will alright?” He says and you don’t think you can open your eyes but the remainder of the cold and unforgivable ways of the Hunger Games, even when rigged, reminds you that this may be the only time you have left with him.

Opening your eyes, you look into his sea-green ones. “Yeah,” you tell him and Finnick leans down, capturing your lips with his.

It’s always been easy to get lost in Finnick. With his hand-crafted and Capitol-made charm that made everyone drawn to him and simply the way he looked was the reason why after so many years, he’s still Snow’s number one attraction. But with his eyes and the way that he held you up when you firmly believed that you weren’t going to make it through your Games was what drew you to him. It was the way that when you came back that he hugged you as fiercely as he could and stayed with you throughout those few extra days in the Capitol when you wanted to go home, holding you as you cried from the memories of what you had to do to survive.

It was when he first kissed you, when he gently grabbed the side of your face and pulled you in that you knew you were a goner. That magnetic pull had kept you there like he was north and you were south.

Now, on the beach after escaping the fog and the monkeys safely and acquiring Johanna, Beetee, and Wiress with the sun coming down and in your element that was made for the both of you in this arena, Finnick’s lips seemed to stay glued to yours. Maybe it was the way the waves reminded both of you of home, of the house you stayed in at Victor’s Village, and the sound of the waves that would rock you two to sleep. Maybe it was the way that, even now, after one small kiss you can’t help but want more and Finnick was always willing to comply with that.

You can hear the disgusted sounds that Johanna is making whenever she looks over at you two and you're sure that the others are as well but you can’t find yourself to care at the moment. Because in this little bubble that you two had made, them, the Hunger Games, and President Snow don’t exist.

In this little bubble, you two are safe for once.

You met Steve through Dustin, which isn't surprising

Dustin basically made you his 3rd parental figure because he saw right through the ‘tough’ facade like he did Steve and Eddie

Steve didn’t necessarily avoid you before Dustin introduced you two, but he certainly didn’t make an effort to talk to you or look you in the eye for too long

He really did find you charming and ~mysterious~ in a weird way, even if you didn’t talk much

(He wouldn’t admit that he told Dustin he was spooked by you, even if Dustin told you anyways)

Once he saw how good you were with Dustin, it didn’t take him long to develop feelings in the midst of taking care of Dustin and occasionally the other kids together

It did take him a little bit to get a good conversation out of you, coughing awkwardly when he asked a question and you gave a simple answer, and he was put off by your resting face for a while

When you two got together, he quickly found out how sweet and cuddly you actually were, and how lovely your smile was when you laughed at his stupid jokes

He always made an effort to make you laugh or smile, or to simply charm you, even if it made him look stupid

He always always looks up at you with that goofy smile and waits for your reaction

It doesn’t matter how much taller than him you are, he will put his arm around your waist when you stand next to each other

It’s okay though cause you usually rested your hand on his back or your arm on his shoulders (and maybe on his head if he was being annoying, and yes he scolded you for it)

ABSOLUTELY mom/dad dynamic with all the kids

Steve being the scolder (lovingly, of course) and you typically giving in to whatever the kids wanted to do (as long as it was safe, of course)

Max sometimes jokes about liking you better than Steve (liar, she likes you both) only because you’re less strict

”We were their age once, too, Steve”, that was your motto

Pet names like ‘Honey’, ‘Sweetheart’, ‘Babe’ were thrown around a LOT between you two

Honestly, with the kids, it didn’t take you two long to just act like a married couple

Steve is nearly always little spoon, don’t tell anyone though

(You told Dustin, he said “I knew it.” and snapped his fingers. You’re unsure how many of the others now.)

You enjoyed picking up Steve when you hugged, just to hear him yelp when his feet no longer touched the floor

The kids enjoy bombarding you and half of them just jumping on you, just for you to scramble to hold them all

They also enjoy how you keep some of the bullies off of them and some of the rest of the party, but there was only so much you could do since you’re graduated

Sometimes you enjoyed picking them up from school to watch the bullies back off when they saw you

(So sorry about all the kids’ headcanons, but honestly they’re included with Steve one way or another, let’s be realistic)

Steve likes to pretend he’s just as intimidating, but really all you need to do is stand there while he scolds whomever may be misbehaving that day

(most of the kids see right through you so it does Not work on them typically, especially Dustin and Max. You are okay with this.)

For how much he talks, you two are the perfect match. You just sit and listen to his rants.

ESPECIALLY when he’s driving, he just seems to spill all his thoughts without even thinking, and you just nod along and ask questions every once and a while

Goes on his tiptoes to kiss you, forgets at some point and is laughed at by the party and he goes bright red

He’s quiet as you leave them at Will’s house and you speak up

“I think it’s cute when you do that.”
