@reynareina69 submitted: Do you know what these bugs are?
#1,#2 some milipede, super cute, moved him out of the house into the greenery
#3,#4 some type of wasp, not very aggressive/territorial and we've been eating lunch right next to them for a while and they haven't even approached us
#5,#6 aforementioned wasps finished nest
Could you give me an ID on these creatures? They were found today in bucaramanga colombia

The millipede I'm afraid isn't distinct enough for me to ID. There are just too many similar-looking species. The wasps look like paper wasps, and maybe some type of honey or warrior wasp. I'd need a closer photo of one of them to ID them properly. But very impressive building on the nest!

I've just watched Les Légendaries and I absolutely love the ship dynamic of these two!
A chubby nerd boy once became an evil jock henchman under the name of his childhood idol, but enters the story as a chubby nerd hero who changed his path and ended his romantic relationship with the villain's goth daughter in favor of personal growth and restoring his good name.
The Snow-White-beautiful goth daughter of the main villain once fell in love with her father's hunky henchman, but did not stop loving him even when he betrayed them and became a chubby nerd hero, and since she is not a yandere, she has to amend the villainous plans in such a way as to get her lover back or at least keep him alive.
Boy, this is just so perfect I can't even. 🤧💖

Disclaimer: this is NOT an April Fool's prank. No joke or pun here, but I just wanted to highlight that there ARE wasps that make honey. (I got sick of seeing those anti-wasp memes that claim they aren't beneficial). Brachygastra mellifica (left) and Parapolybia escalerae (right) are both Polistine wasps with the ability to produce a sugary substance. B. mellifica is an important pollinator of avocados, however, it is not yet known which flowers P. escalerae pollinate. B. mellifica ranges from Texas to Panama, while P. escalerae is native to Iran, Pakistan and Turkey. A big high five to honey producing wasps!

Okay, entomology brain is annoyed by a Tumblr ad
Tumblr media
Specifically, this one. First, Albert Einstein never said that.
Secondly, and more importantly, that is NOT a honey bee, or even a bee at all. That is a bee fly, a very important, very cute pollinator. However! They have parasitoid larvae! This means that they lay their eggs in the larvae of other bugs. Those eggs hatch, and those larvae eat the bug they're in from the inside out. Sounds horrible, but it's the way of things and I cannot understate how important these guys are.
The reason I'm annoyed about the picture of choice isn't even that they didn't picture a bee (not even in the right order- bees are hymenopterans. Flies are diptera.) What's really grinding my absolute gears about the choice here? Bee flies parasitize bee larva.
If you're going to use the wrong picture, at least don't use the picture of something that actively kills what you're trying to protect instead of the animal you're protecting.
Also, honeybees, Apis mellifera, don't need protection. They're fine. They're invasive in North America, even. Humans take care of them just fine. I'm a beekeeper, and I love them, but that's not where our efforts should be. We should be trying to protect native bees, there are a whole bunch that I bet you've never heard of that need help.
Anyway, rant over. Sorry, I just could not let that one go.

Wasp character sketches part one of however many I end up doing: Tarantula Hawk Wasp and Mexican Honey Wasp (plus cameos from an Ichneumon wasp [Cryptinae subfamily] and a jumping spider)
I could've done a few more sketches to get a better handle on the honey wasp's shapes and features, but I had to go after sketching what I did, so that was where it ended.
