3 Future Changes Are Certain In Hong Kong. Moving to Another City May Be A Choice Between Opportunity and Lifestyle
Bad choice dresses like your good choice, and good luck usually follows bad luck. Some people are leaving Hong Kong for their Xanadu. It is a pity that an entire sense of doom now hangs over the group of people who do not like the present situation. It was reported that currently, about 100,000 left Hong Kong for settlement in other countries every year. A lifestyle is what you long for, but a life is what you may end up with. My pleasure of a foreign place lasts but a week. Love of Hong Kong, for many, may be vulnerable but it is everlasting and true. Hope is being able to see that there will be light in Hong Kong after all the turmoils in 2019.
Since 1997, Hong Kong has been more and more ruthlessly capitalistic. Money and well-being are spider webs through which the big flies pass and the poor little ones get caught. Young people feel trapped in a society which is less and less comfortable, fair or familiar. They feel housing is too expensive, jobs are fewer in terms of nature and choice; and future prospects are uncertain. A social survey suggested that many people think the poor family background is the critical factor which will hinder one’s success. It was said that one of the causes of the Hong Kong riot in 2019 was such social discontent. The misfortune was again blamed on the government for its failure to resolve the ‘deep-rooted social conflicts’.
When stuck, people thought about change and moving out of Hong Kong as a detour to happiness. Change can be a bad or good choice. People either hate or love it at the same time. Does moving out of Hong Kong mean opening new doors or closing a gate?
Drastic change is the raw material of desperation. Some people hate the changes in our city. They however fail to appreciate that it is also the only reason that will bring future reform and progress of our city of Hong Kong. Scholar Peter Drucker said, “The greatest danger in times of turbulence is not the turbulence—it is to act with yesterday’s logic.” If we had not gone through the raging sea in 2019, could Hong Kong have had the wisdom of hitting the nail on the head this time?
President Xi Jinping (習近平) defended the vision of Hong Kong in his speech marking 25 years since the city became a ‘special administrative region’ of the country following its handover from Britain in 1997:
(1) China is determined to maintain ‘One Country Two Systems’ principle; and Hong Kong will continue to enjoy its unique status and remain free, vibrant and open;
(2) Hong Kong can only maintain its long-term stability by ensuring ‘patriots governing Hong Kong’; and any force threatening the national security of China will not be tolerated under whatever circumstances; and
(3) Hong Kong shall break new ground and launch a new takeoff including better governance, solving housing problems, improved lives for ordinary people, creating economic opportunities for the young and stronger development cooperation with the Greater Bay Area(大灣區) adjacent to the Pearl River. The area has a population of 80 million, as big as that of a country.
What will happen from now on will be different from what has previously happened—but, at least, the present greater political predictability will transform into greater stability and prosperity for the city of Hong Kong.
It is now clear what we can or cannot do politically as a national citizen of the country. The new security law criminalises secession of Hong Kong, subversion against the national government, terrorism and colluding with foreign forces. Those who aspire to make Hong Kong another western political system are falling from great heights. When they are seriously unhappy here, it may be their Hobson’s choice to leave Hong Kong.
When Hong Kong is a small city, the economic and social growth can depend on very limited factors. The Greater Bay Area (GBA) will add rich diversity and possibility to Hong Kong. The challenge will be that we have to learn to face a lot of people from different backgrounds and with different styles. We can only hope that those who are ‘Hongkie’, and those who are not, to come together to adapt and build a greater future in the biggest new development zone in the world. We will all have two kinds of lives: Hong Kong life and GBA one. The policies on integrating Hong Kong into GBA continue vigorously and will continue. For those who do not like the future of such close interaction, their emigration usually suggests unhappiness of some kind about Hong Kong which is their reason of departure. They will lose career opportunities but we wish they could find a peaceful inner journey outside.
The latest death trend in Hong Kong is about 60,000 annually. Our population grows roughly by 37,000 newborn babies every year. There are more deaths than births. In 20 years’ time, 1 in every 4 Hong Kong residents will be 65 or above. To sustain our economy to grow, we will need more young immigrants from Mainland China and other countries to keep the energy level. The keen competition from such energetic ‘new Hongkongese’ will mean that the young people here can no longer reject a rat race or embrace the usual ‘lying flat’(躺平) attitude. Couch potatoes will be knocked out. For those who are not good enough to stand against the influx of talents, a quiet and simple life overseas in Canada or Australia could be a very attractive idea.
Transformation literally means going from one form to the other, and you are bound to lose some or gain some. Hong Kong will be for the optimists and venturers to stay. Any unease during the current political, economic and social transformation can actually be a fertile time for the adventurous people to plant new seeds for a new chapter of life. Life is a moving thing and for the brave young ones, why are you not willing to try to stay and turn things around?

Journey to Shizun‘s Bed
Summary: In which Shang Qinghua tries his hands at adapting catchy opening songs and Shen Qingqiu is. not. amused.
A spiritual aura sweeps through Cang Qiong Mountain Within the Qing Jing Peak’s disciples, I, The Handsome Junshang with Earth-shaking shattering power, am the most beloved Even the Xuan Su Sword and the Bai Zhan War God have to let me play freely! If I want to show off on Earth, I'll win the Immortal Alliance Conference. If I want to become an emperor, I'll grace the Southern Demon Palace with my presence. If I were to admit that I was wrong, my heart would still be arrogant. Around the Cang Qiong Mountain, the favorite of Qing Jing Peak, Sauntering around with a light slash of Xin Mo, I have explored all of the Demon and Mortal Realm, Using just a drop of my blood to alter my destiny. Fearless in the face of countless challenge, even from the Endless Abyss But what I really fear the most is Shizun disappearing on me! To properly court Shizun, we can't afford to relax at any step, To properly court Shizun, we will be impulsive together. To properly court Shizun, we have to cooperate for Shizun. Gradually achieving spousehood, Where our names will be praised for ten thousand generations, Luo Binghe!
- Journey to Shizun’s bed, song adapted by Shang Qinghua
Shen Qingqiu, back when he used to be called Shen Yuan, had been a Millenial. A male chinese one at that. He grew up in the heyday of Hongkongese TV shows, back when each fighting scenes were authentic pieces of art and special effects were kept at a minimum. So of course he was very familiar with all the classics, okay? Especially Journey to the West.
He used to fawn over the strength, intelligence and arrogance of Sun Wukong, cheering every time the Monkey King would win a fight or outwit an enemy. He used to grimace every time Zhu Bajie was in the general vicinity of any female characters. He used to throw insult at the TV screen every time Tang Sanzang refused to believe his disciple about this or that character being a demon in disguise (even though he fucking knew Sun Wukong had the ability to see through any kind of subterfuges and disguises)... that and getting basically kidnapped and/or nearly eaten every freaking episodes! So. Damn. Infuriating!
Shen Qingqiu wanted to throw something just by thinking about it!
But anyway, back to the matter on hand. Shen Qingqiu knew his classics.
So, of course, he’d immediately recognize it when he overheard Shang Qinghua absently humming the opening song of the Journey to the West, the 1996 one of course (because any other adaption didn’t deserve any recognition - fight him!).
Well, “overhead” might be too big of a word.
Shen Qingqiu had agreed to help Shang Qinghua go through his massive mountain of disorderly paperwork, in exchange for the location of a pair of mythical beasts that had only been mentioned once in Proud Immortal Demon Way, but didn’t appear in any books that Shen Qingqiu had read so far. And after a while Shang Qinghua had just forgotten that his fellow transmigrator was still in the room, hence the humming which had now evolved into full-fledged singing.
Now, usually, that would have been the point prompting Shen Qingqiu to snap at him to freaking work in silence, because Shang Qinhua’s taste in music was on par with his literature one’s - that is to say absolutely cringy and of the vulgar variety. And he tended to sing in loops. Absolutely maddening!
But suddenly overcome with a rare sense of nostalgia, Shen Qingqiu decided not to interrupt and actually listen. He was actually impressed that Shang Qinghua remembered the cantonese lyrics, what’s with his usual shitty memory and language proficiency.
So, when it looped back to the beginning of the song, he started to properly pay attention to the lyrics.
Shen Qingqiu frowned. Wait. That wasn’t right! What’s with those lyrics?!
If I want to show off on Earth, I'll win the Immortal Alliance Conference. If I want to become an emperor, I'll grace the Southern Demon Palace with my presence. If I were to admit that I was wrong, my heart would still be arrogant.
He snorted. So Shang Qinghua had actually adapted the original opening lyrics to make them about Luo Binghe, instead.
Around the Cang Qiong Mountain, the favorite of Qing Jing Peak, Sauntering around with a light slash of Xin Mo, I have explored all of the Demon and Mortal Realm, Using just a drop of my blood to alter my destiny.
Shen Qingqiu was actually impressed? This hack author had only made some minor changes (the locations and powers) but the gist and intent of the original song still remained the same. He’d never noticed how the original could fit so well with this OP protagonist of his. Had Luo Binghe personality been inspired by Sun Wukong? Maybe he would ask Shang Qinghua for a written version of the lyrics... just because he was curious about it, okay! ... and certainly not because he actually started to like this version better than the original!
Fearless in the face of countless challenge, even from the Endless Abyss But what I really fear the most is Shizun disappearing on me!
Shen Qingqiu winced. Yeah, even that part was similar. What’s with the countless number of wife plots he had been subject to in the past few years. Wait... Did that make him Tang Sanzang?! No way! Nope! He refused!
“To properly court Shizun, we can't afford to relax at any step, To properly court Shizun, we - ACK! Cucumber-bro! W-what, stop hitting me! OUCH!”
Before Shang Qinghua could even finish the verse, Shen Qingqiu had promptly leapt from his seat and lunged at him, with all the ferocity of an indignant swan. He punctuated each of his word with a violent hit of his fan.
“You! Hack! Author! How! Dare! You!”
“W-wait! Wait! I’m sorry! ACK! I’m really sorry! Stop hitting me, please!”
But Shen Qingqiu wasn’t done.
“You! If it weren’t bad enough that you made me into a Tang Sanzang proxy, you actually dared to make me, the Holy Sutras?! How blasphemous can you actually get?!”
Shang Qinghua laughed nervously at that, scratching his cheek, “Well, you have to admit, Cucumber-bro, it does fit surprisingly well with the narra- ACK! Okay! Shutting up, right now! I’ll repent properly for all the wrong I’ve done!”
Shen Qingqiu huffed, “You’d better. And hand over the written lyrics, I’m confiscated it, just to make it won’t get into the wrong hands!”
There was a knowing glint in his eyes as Shang Qinghua went to fetch said lyrics and gave them to him. “Yeah sure, cucumber-bro.”
Just for that Shen Qingqiu hit him, once more.
.
.
.
The thing was... The song was catchy, okay! (And the lyrics were surprisingly good if you ignore the last verse.)
So was it really surprising that Shen Qingqiu found himself singing it without meaning to?
At first, he would be too thin-faced to actually reach the end of the song and would stop right before the last verse. But after singing it countless times, he actually stopped paying attention to the meaning of the words, which happened often enough when you sing in a language that wasn’t your native language, and instintively went through the whole song.
So naturally, his sticky, sticky disciple who should learn not to move so silently, was bound to hear it at some point.
His last remains of hope that Luo Binghe wouldn’t understand the lyrics promptly shattered when he saw him grinning from ear to ear, begging his Shizun to sing it one more time.
(He remembered too late that Airplane had handwaved the language barrier between a Cantonese speaking wife and Mandarin speaking Luo Binghe by stating that apparently everyone in PIDW could understand and speak both, which was utter bullshits that Shen Yuan had ranted about in at least three separate comments. What was the point of making a distinction between the two if everyone and their mothers could speak it?!)
Face beat red from utter shame, Shen QIngqiu stubbornly refused to sing it again, no matter how many time he was coaxed.
It fucking figured though that Luo Binghe would manage to memorize the song after only hearing it once.
The next following days, found that cheeky disciple of his happily singing it as swept the floor of the Bamboo Hut.
.
.
Naturally, at some point, both Ning Yingying and Liu Mingyan also heard of it ( which for some reason meant that Sha Hualing also knew about it?) .
... Naturally, the song became the most known song in the Three Realm within a week.
Shen Qingqiu was going to eviscerate Shang Qinghua!!
(About a year later, a book co-written by Lian Su Mian Hua and an unknown author pennamed Sword Shooting Towards the Sky, became widly circulated. It told the epic tale of a peerless cultivator who travelled through the several Realms, with his three rambunctious but powerful disciples, on the head of a giant snake  to search for some holy artifacts.
The first disciple was a half-heavenly demon who was propably singlehandedly the most powerful being in all Three Realms and the only person he was known to bow down to was his Shizun.
The second one was a very powerful cultivator who owed his Shizun his life, he would have been known for both his fighting prowess and his beauty - if he hadn’t been beaten every single time by his Shixiong!
The last disciple, was the one who had known Shizun the longest despite being the last one accepted as a disciple. The reason was that even though he was rumoured to be powerful to the point of even having his Da-shixiong being wary of him, he had been forbbiden from drawing his sword out.
Now the most interesting part of the tale though is that the Shizun was probably the only one really focused on the goal. The three disciples (and the snake?!) actually spent the integrality of the journey trying to get into their master’s bed fighting each other and protecting their masters’s virtue from the dozen other contenders, though the master remained utterly obvious the whole way - under the firm belief that the beings (humans, gods, demons) that kept kidnapping him right, left and center wanted to eat him... which you know, yes, but not that way.
The furious scream from the usually peacefully Qing Jing Peak could be heard all the way to An Ding, Shang Qinghua elected right there to flee have a prolonged stay at his King residence.)
THE END.
.
.
Extra:
Sun Wukong & LBH: I have no fear.
Tang Sanzang & SQQ, exists and keeps getting kidnapped or dying.
Sun Wukong & LBH: I have one (1) fear.
The JTTW (1996) opening used this meme nearly two decades before it was invented and I think it’s freaking hilarious!
---------------------------------------------------------
Author’s note:
1) Okay so, I used to watch a lot of Chinese TV shows when I was a kid - I watched them in Vietnamese dub though. Recently, I randomly wanted to watch Journey To the West again, and realized after one episode and a half that I wasn’t nearly as proficient in Vietnamese as I used to be when I was 10.... (which, WTF?!)... or maybe back then,  it didn’t bothered me as much not to understand everything as long as I got the gist of the story.
Well whatever the reason I promptly switched to the original version with English subtitles. And the team subbing the episodes actually went through the effort of translating all the songs as well, which meant I understood the lyrics of the opening for the first time ever (they were kept in Cantonese, even in the dub)  and I was like...
So after my initial amazement of how the opening embodied so well Sun Wukong, I was like “Wait... for some reasons it reminds me of LBH as well.”
And because I couldn’t get the idea out of my head, I actually started writing it!
 2) Mandarin vs Cantonese....
So one of my HCs is that Shen Yuan is proficient in a lot of language:
- Mandarin, which is his native language. - Cantonese, by watching those Hongkongese TV shows as a kid and learning by sheer osmosis... which means he actually knows the outdated way of speaking in Cantonese - English, through school - Japanese - a little bit of Korean
As for SQH, well to be honest, I needed a reason to explain how he knew Cantonese enough to adapt the lyrics, so for the sake of the story his father is from Macau (Cantonese), while his mother is from Shanghai (Mandarin), which is why he naturally understands and speaks both.
3) I was shocked to learn that “Marriagehood” wasn’t a word, it sounds so much better than “Spousehood”
4) Here is the original lyrics, if you’re interested
(Credits to the swkfansubs team for the translation!)
A spiritual aura sweeps through Flower Fruit Mountain Within the Water Curtain Cave, I, The Handsome Monkey King Earth-shaking shattering power, am the master Even the Jade Emperor and the Dragon King have to let me play freely! If I want to play on Earth, I'll create a sensation. If I want to become an emperor, I'll grace the Dragon Palace with my presence. If I were to admit that I was wrong, my heart would still be arrogant. Around the Golden Flower Fruit Mountain, the King of Water Curtain Cave, Somersaulting around with light flips, I have explored all of East and West, Using just half a strand of my hair to alter my destiny. Fearless in the face of countless challenge, even from Wind and Fire But what I really fear the most is my master going missing! To retrieve the Holy Sutras, we can't afford to relax at any step, To retrieve the Holy Sutras, we will be impulsive together To retrieve the Holy Sutras, we have to cooperate for the Sutras. Gradually achieving Buddhahood, When our names will be praised for ten thousand generations, Sun Wukong !
5) I need a real JTTW AU like, right now! Someone please make it happens!

absolutely 6, 20, 18, and whichever one was the “songs you didn’t expect to like” one from the 3 song list!!!
Hi Cadence!!!
Anyway.
6. Three songs you wish you could erase from history (because they’re terrible)
ummmm so like the songs i truly fucking hate r like ones i hear on the radio and never even know the name of but i rlly hate like. theres this one country song that plays on the radio all the fucking time about cheating. and i also rlly cant stand certain tiktok sounds so much they make me feel ill especially that one person who makes all those songs in a “goblin voice” bc it literally just makes ne feel sick
7. Three songs you didnt expect to like
- so hearing the pastels for the first time was. an experience. as many ppl who hear their first pastels song feel- so probably baby honey by the pastels! It’s. an aquirred taste and i often refer to baby honey as a like- advanced pastels song. You have to listen to coming through or nothing to be done first otherwise you will hear that song and never listen again.
- ok this is more of a song i didnt like and then i did but. It’s love by the softies! initially i thought it was kinda bland but now i rlly like it lol
- i just posted this one but my dear giant by the marshmallow kisses! It’s waaaay cutesier than i usually go with my twee and i was under the impression they were french for some reason? so imagine my surprise when i realized it was a hongkongese band lol…
18. Three songs that remind you of your best friend!
So. This is complex bc a) i dont get to see my best friend very often (they r the former host of a system and arent rlly allowed to front often anymore) and b) they only listen to metal and i hate metal so 😭😭
- ok saying what i just said this is weird but different drum by Micheal Nesmith! essentially. There was a time they came to a party at my house where a friend’s band performed and they played different drum and it was the only song he liked lol!!
- Maggot by slutever is also one of the only songs i sent them they liked so that one also!
- hmmmm ok weird one but their name is zombie, right. and theres a very explicit song by the magnetic fields called zombie boy and it reminds me of them so much but i know theyd hate that song lol
20. Three songs that remind you of the person that sent this!
ok! so like i am so unsure bc im not 100% on how similar our music tastes r and im like scouring my music library rn so lets see lol
- I was listening to Crushin’ by Sourpatch a lot when we first we speaking- and it has a kind of mellow feeling to it!
- Another kind of song that kinda feels mellower but also has personality to it that i was also listening to a lot a year ago is Pulling at the grey by young romance!
-and tbh idk why this comes to mind it just does but. movies in my head- the 6ths

Why YSKM Will Be the Next Great League of Legends Star
Tumblr media
One of the most anticipated League of Legends players of the new year, YSKM has completely taken over the Chinese league. RNG's Breathe, who is regarded as one of the greatest in his position, was solo killed by the rookie top laner, who has already displayed fantastic plays and exceptional mechanics. But who is YSKM, and why is he hyped so much compared to the other rookies? Will he rise as one of the best top laners in the league? YSKM and his competitive experience so far Chau “YSKM” Shu-tak is a Hongkongese top laner who is currently playing for Invictus Gaming. Prior to the start of the split, his nickname was a mystery, to the point where Chinese fans were trying to second guess the acronym and giving him funny names like “Yu Shuang Kai Men” which refer to the Chinese desk host Duan “Candice” Yu-Shuang.  Later it was confirmed by the player himself that YSKM stands for “You Should Know Me.” His captivating nickname directly reflects the qualities of the player, who has an aggressive playstyle and is always looking for solo kill action. Fans have quickly compared him to the Korean top laner TheShy, who was also known for an aggressive playstyle and won the World Championship with IG back in 2018. YSKM started playing competitively in 2021, joining IG’s academy team, iG Young, as a substitute top laner. At the start of 2022, he was promoted to the starting position and finished seventh in the 2022 LDL Spring, one spot away from playoffs. During the summer he left iG Young to join Frank Esports in the PCS, finishing fifth in the regular split. Unfortunately, the team were eliminated in the first round of the PCS playoffs after being dominated by Deep Cross Gaming. That said, his latest performances convinced IG to bring him back to the team. This time, however, as the top laner of the main roster. Upon his return, he explained in an interview with IG on Jan. 18 how his stint in the PCS proved to be useful for his growth. “Back when I started on iG.Y, I was very happy to play competitively, but later it became an obsession and I started playing poorly,” he said. “At that time, my mindset was flawed and my playstyle on iG.Young was thoughtless, so I went back to the PCS. There, the coaches taught me how to think about the game and my playstyle got a lot more stable. Although it’s still quite fierce/aggressive, there is more thought into it.” The general sentiment is YSKM loves to play at the limit and create high-variance situations where the player with better mechanics wins. Thanks to his individual talent and instinct, he’s able to prevail over his opponents in most cases, delighting the fans with incredible outplays.  The experts’ opinion on YSKM  While YSKM is getting a lot of hype, League analyst and LPL expert Molecule told Dot Esports on Jan. 18 his opinions on the player and how he thinks fans should not raise their expectations too high for the rookie.  “I was previously working as an analyst in the PCS and during MSI I got the chance to talk to some of the LDL Hong Kong kids and if they were interested in playing in the PCS, and one of those kids was YSKM,” he said. “The first scrim he played was against Beyond Gaming and he just demolished Liang and Likai who are two strong PCS top laners with lots of experience. He solo killed them every lane and he would basically turn into a solo kill machine against everyone every day in almost every scrim.” YSKM is known for playing damage-oriented bruisers in the top lane such as Fiora, Camille, and Jax, to the point where most of these champions are pick-or-ban for him. The LPL teams quickly realized this when preparing against IG, but it’s almost impossible to target-ban him without leaving other strong meta champions open in the champ select. Molecule seems to share similar thoughts. “If he’s on his champs (Fiora, Camille, Jax, or Irelia) he will look fantastic and knows the lethal thresholds better than any other pro when playing them,” he said. “Aside from that though, his wave management is suspect and his macro was really bad. He just wants to have that one-on-one action, but after just two games on IG, I can see he has learned some things already, especially when it comes to TP usage.” Molecule’s statement seems to align with his current stats. According to the stats site Games of Legends, YSKM has the third-highest DPM out of all LPL top laners so far, behind NIP’s Invincible and EDG’s Ale who, however, only have played two games at this point. He’s also the player with the highest KDA among those who have played more than one series. In contrast, though, YSKM’s CSM is only at an average level, currently 10th with eight CS per minute.  When asked about what people should expect from YSKM this year, Molecule said “they should be excited but taper their expectations as soon as he’s not on his champions. With some of the aforementioned champions getting nerfed in the near future, there are chances that his gameplay on other champions will be sub-par and that he will have to rely on his team to carry. Luckily for him, the current meta is matching perfectly for him and IG looked like a well-oiled team so far. The best thing is that he’s practicing a lot and is taking this year a lot more seriously than last year. There is a very clear reason why Neny is playing as a sub: they know that when the meta will change Neny might come in his stead. In one way or the other, it could become a sword/shield style, just like C9 had with impact/ray, where IG changes warp their drafts depending on who is playing.” YSKM has an “X factor” that goes beyond his skills Aside from his current form and level of play, YSKM has an incomparable level of confidence, especially coming in as a rookie in the LPL. He has the confidence that only top elite players have and is proving his worth on the Rift.  In an interview with IG on Jan. 18, when he was asked which players or teams he wanted to face in particular, he said “WBG’s top laner TheShy, because I want to surpass him. Everyone calls me HongKongese TheShy, but I don’t want to become TheShy, I want to surpass him and become a legend.” His incredible self-confidence, love for skirmishes, and limit testing make his playstyle entertaining to watch and it’s something that the League esports scene has lacked for quite a while. In an era where teams are always looking for the least risky or the most optimal strategy, YSKM defies all these concepts and proceeds to play his own game, knowing that he has the X factor to overcome the limits. Whether this X factor will make or break him, we will have to find out in the upcoming weeks of the LPL.  Read the full article

Blue Island
This is a Hongkongese film, nowadays this from the start means trouble, what will the Chinese authorities think about it?, specially if it is about political unrest through the generations in the island, it certainly means a lot of people putting their heads above the wall, most likely to the displeasure of the kind of people that would drag a protestor in Britain to a consulate to beat him up....
The film delves into the history of political descent in both China and Hong Kong, mentioning opposition to the Cultural Revolution, to the Tiananmen Square massacre and it doesn't shy away from talking about the pro democracy Umbrella movement, all sensitive topics for anybody under the orbit of the esteemed Chinese Communist Party Intelligentsia.
The film uses a combination of staged scenes which quickly turn into conversations about a variety of political topics by the actors that just depicted the scene, the actors are themselves political activists (and who in HK isn't?), so these scenes are satisfyingly circular, it also uses more traditional documentary techniques (talking heads, news or activist footage) to remind how HK has been a refuge to those seeking to run (or swim as shown in the film first scene) away from the political strictures of China, but what happens when that refuge comes under threat itself? The answer is ominous: people end in jail or exiled, something that was pointed out at the end of the film when the situation of many of the film participants was made explicit, most of them were defending themselves against judicial processes for protesting against the Chinese crackdown on HK's democratic institutions, those processes most likely will land the people involved in jail for months or years depending on the ludicrous charges brought against them.
The film as such is heavy going, lots of talk about complicated political and historical matters, but it is powerful and timely at a moment in time when freedom to demonstrate comes under attack in the UK itself and people in Iran are trying to change something about the unspeakable situation they live under.

#tbt to an impromptu Oportos lunch break [stills] with @theyellowgang.co and @__hyehee - I used to be addicted to Oportos, I think the closest is Afros Chicken. An @oportoaus vs @afroschicken situation, love them both. . I have more-ish tendencies, especially when it comes to food. I'll eat something until I get sick of it. That's bad 😶 but I miss more my friends then the food. Simple living for sure 💛 #foodie#food#tbt#friends#memories#tbt#🇿🇦#🇭🇰#🇰🇷 (at Sunshine Plaza) https://www.instagram.com/p/BwHqM3iBz_a/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=8u2ozogbs1zj
