The Welcome Christmas Surprise (Natasha Romanoff x Wife! Reader)
Tumblr media
3rd Person POV
Natasha wakes early Christmas Eve morning, watching her wife sleep. (Y/n) had taken to sleeping on her side, facing Natasha, recently.
Natasha smiles tenderly at the (H/c) haired woman, resting her head back on her memory foam pillow, her dark ginger hair splayed out on the pillow.
(Y/n) shifts drowsily, her hand coming to rest lightly on her stomach.
Natasha turns to her side, watching her wife with a soft look in her eyes.
The door squeaks softly as the Bohemian Shepherd puppy sticks his head into the room.
Tumblr media
Bear springs lightly onto the bed and lies down at (Y/n)’s feet.
(Y/n) sleepily opens her eyes, smiling drowsily at Natasha. “Morning, Nat,” (Y/n) says, blinking at the light streaming through the burgundy curtains.
"Morning, Love," Natasha says, leaning over, and placing a kiss on (Y/n)'s lips.
(Y/n) lets out a happy little hum, shifting closer towards her wife; her eyes fluttering closed again.
But then, (Y/n)'s eyes flash open. "What time is it?" she asks, panicking slightly.
"Hey," Natasha soothes, rubbing her thumb atop her wife's hand. "It's only eight."
(Y/n) lets out an uncomfortable noise as she raises herself from the bed, and Natasha moves her wife's pillow against the wooden headboard, and (Y/n) rests her back against the pillow.
(Y/n) turns her head slightly to the right, and smiles at Natasha.
"The others should be here around three," Natasha tells (Y/n), and the (H/c) haired woman nods thoughtfully.
Natasha and (Y/n) had bought their own house a few weeks ago, just before they had gotten married. The other Avengers, as well as Daisy, Wanda's girlfriend, Pepper, and Morgan, were coming for Christmas, and to also see the house with the couple's things in it, for the first time.
"I think I should make Christmas dinner," (Y/n) tells Natasha, a teasing glint in her eyes.
"I agree," Natasha says with a chuckle.
"Yeah, but you better help," (Y/n) says with a laugh.
"Yeah, but I burn water, so," Natasha says and (Y/n)'s eyes flicker with amusement.
"You can cut potatoes," (Y/n) replies simply.
Natasha smiles and (Y/n) leans over, placing a kiss on the redhead's lips before she gets up from the bed and walks over to the bathroom. Bear jumps up and trots after the woman before she can close the door.
A few minutes later, (Y/n) emerges from the bathroom, wearing a pair of jeans, and a Stitch Christmas sweater.
Tumblr media
Bear trots at (Y/n)'s feet before he jumps onto the bed.
(Y/n) smiles at her wife before she climbs back into the bed, moving to snuggle up to Natasha's side, the redhead wrapping an arm around (Y/n)'s waist, pulling the (H/c) haired woman even closer. (Y/n) rests her head against Natasha's shoulder and she begins fiddling with the ends of Natasha's hair.
"You're so quiet today," Natasha says, looking at (Y/n) thoughtfully.
"I'm just excited to give you my gift," (Y/n) says simply, her eyes sparkling.  "Now, if you excuse me, I'm off to start dinner at eight-thirty in the morning."
Natasha chuckles and (Y/n) kisses her cheek before getting up from the bed, Bear trotting after her.
Around two-o-clock, Wanda Maximoff, and (Y/n)'s cousin, Daisy Johnson arrive.
Wanda hugs (Y/n) tightly and Daisy smiles at her cousin brightly.
"Here, Wanda made this," Daisy tells (Y/n), handing her a nine by thirteen casserole dish of sweet potato casserole.
Daisy smiles at her girlfriend as (Y/n) takes the dish.
"Thanks, Tremors," (Y/n) nudges Daisy, "and you, Wanda."
"No problem," Wanda says, following (Y/n) into the kitchen as Daisy takes the bag of gifts that she was carrying and sets it by the Christmas tree. Natasha smiles at the brunette as Daisy sits down on the couch, the two beginning to chat animatedly.
"I'm making pie," (Y/n) says, smiling down at Wanda. "Wanna help?"
"Of course," Wanda says.
"Pumpkin or pecan or both?" (Y/n) asks, pulling ingredients from the pantry.
"Daisy's favorite is pecan and everyone likes pumpkin, so, I'd say both," Wanda says, making (Y/n) laugh.
"So, how are you and Daisy?" (Y/n) asks as she and Wanda start.
"Good," Wanda says, smiling at the thought. "How are you and Nat?" the girl liked to keep tabs on her mentors.
"Good," (Y/n) grins down at the piecrust she was rolling out.
"You're so excited about something," Wanda says, noticing the change in (Y/n)'s behavior.
It wasn't as though (Y/n) wasn't ever cheerful, but Wanda notes that she seemed a lot more excited and cheerful at the moment. Wanda chalks it to be Christmas spirit and drops it.
The doorbell rings again, and Natasha stands up from her seat next to Daisy. Natasha opens the door and smiles at Tony and Pepper, and their young daughter Morgan.
"Hey, Red," Tony says, setting down a box of gifts and hugging his daughter-in-law.
"Hi, Tony."
"Hi, Nat," Pepper smiles at the redhead, a covered dish in her hands.
"Pepper," Natasha nods to the auburn-haired woman.
"Hi, Natty," Morgan says happily, jumping into Natasha's arms.
"Heya Morgan," Natasha hugs the little girl. "Come on in, you guys," Natasha steps aside so the three could walk inside.
Tony carries the box of gifts and set them around the tree while Pepper carries the dish into the kitchen where she finds (Y/n) and Wanda sliding four pies - one pecan and three pumpkin - into the oven, and she sets the dish on the counter.
"Pepper!" (Y/n) rushes over to hug her step-mother.
Pepper laughs, returning the hug warmly, "Hi, (Y/n), Wanda."
The witch smiles at Pepper and accepts the hug Pepper offers.
"It's good to see you, (Y/n)," Pepper says as she sits down on one of the barstools against the island.
"As am I," (Y/n) says, sliding a ham out of a second oven.
"You've been busy?" Pepper asks.
"Well, you know Tasha can't cook, but it hasn't been too bad," (Y/n) answers, looking up from the mashed potatoes and gravy on the stovetop. "She helped me chop a lot of things."
By three-fifteen, everyone had arrived. Steve, his boyfriend Bucky, Sam, (Y/n)'s uncle Rhodey, Bruce, Clint, Laura, Lila, Cooper, Nathanial, Maria Hill, Phil Coulson, and his team - Mack, Jemma Simmons, Leo Fitz, Melinda May, and Elena Rodriguez - and finally Bobbi Morse and Lance Hunter.
Phil walks into the kitchen to find his honorary daughter pulling things out of one of the ovens.
"Hi, (Y/n)," he says, taking a potholder and pulling things out of the second.
"Dad, when did you guys get here?" (Y/n) asks, looking over at Coulson.
"The team and I got here a few minutes ago. Let's just say Cap was a little surprised to see me," Coulson says and (Y/n) chuckles.
"Wanna help me carry this out into the dining room?" (Y/n) asks, grabbing a dish from off the granite countertop.
As Natasha sees (Y/n) and Coulson bringing out dishes, she excuses herself from her conversation with Wanda and Daisy and goes to help; a moment later, everyone was helping move food into the dining room.
Once everything, except the deserts, was on the table, Natasha nudges her wife into the chair at the head of the table.
(Y/n) stands up once everyone's seated at the table and everyone turns to look at her.
"We're really happy that you guys could come out today," (Y/n) says, then pauses. "That was the most formal sounding I've been in my whole life," she smiles and everyone chuckles. "Eat food, it's there," (Y/n) sits down, and everyone cheers.
Natasha smiles at her wife and passes her a bowl of mashed potatoes.
(Y/n) winks at Natasha as she takes a scoop of the potatoes and passes them to Wanda, who was sitting on her left.
The conversations at the dinner table were cheerful and Wanda, Pepper, and Jemma help (Y/n) clean the dishes before everyone sits around the living room to open gifts.
Natasha smiles as (Y/n) leans into her on one of the many couches in the living room.
"You okay?" Natasha murmurs in (Y/n)'s ear.
"Yeah, just a little tired," (Y/n) answers with a tender smile.
The group opens their gifts until (Y/n) gets up towards the end and grabs a final gift from the back of her closet.
(Y/n) stands in the doorway, watching as everyone opens their last gifts.
After a moment, (Y/n) walks over and kneels in front of Morgan.
"Wait until everyone is done, then open this one," (Y/n) murmurs in the girl's ear.
Morgan looks curiously at her older sister but then nods.
Natasha glances at (Y/n) as she walks back over and sits beside her on the couch, scooting over, their shoulders brushing.
(Y/n) suppresses a grin as Morgan opens her last gift from (Y/n).
Morgan looks excitedly up at (Y/n) as she reads what's written on the shirt.
"What does it say?" Tony asks, the excited look on his youngest daughter's eyes making him curious.
Morgan turns the shirt around so everyone can see what's written on it, Only the best sister gets promoted to an aunt.
Natasha looks wide-eyed at (Y/n) as everyone begins to give their congratulations.
(Y/n) nods and Natasha wraps her wife in a tight hug. "Are you really pregnant?" Natasha murmurs into (Y/n)'s ear.
"Yeah," (Y/n) breathes, placing a kiss on her wife's lips.
"I'm so excited," Natasha says, then looks over at Tony and Coulson, whose eyes were wide. "I think you broke your dads."
(Y/n) kisses Natasha on the cheek before walking over to Tony, being stopped a couple of times by her friends, who continue to offer their congratulations, but then move off to congratulate Natasha.
(Y/n) sits down beside Tony on the couch, and places a hand on his arm. This jolts Tony out of his reverie.
"Dad, are you okay?" (Y/n) asks, her worry showing in her eyes.
Tony's eyes soften, and he wraps his daughter in a hug.
(Y/n) lets out a laugh, returning the hug.
"I'm happy for you two," Tony says, pulling his daughter to look at her arm's length away.
"Aww, thanks Grandad," (Y/n) says with a small laugh, leaning forward and kissing her father on the cheek. "Love you. Now I've got to go shock Coulson out of his own reverie."
(Y/n) crosses the living room, glancing back over her shoulder at all their friends and family congregated around Natasha, and the bright smile on the redhead's face.
"Congratulations," Jemma says, bounding over to (Y/n) before she can reach Coulson.
"Thanks, Jemma," (Y/n) steps forward, wrapping her scientist friend in a tight hug.
"You going to help Coulson?" Jemma asks, her British accent prominent in her question.
"Sadly, he still gets shocked by things that come out of my mouth," (Y/n) grumbles.
"Well, good luck," Jemma says with a smile, and Fitz, who had walked over, grins at (Y/n).
As (Y/n) reaches Coulson, she sits down on the couch. The two have a similar conversation to (Y/n) and Tony's, and it ends with a hug.
"Now, go see your wife before she kills us all," Coulson says and (Y/n) looks over, catching Natasha's eye.
"I guess I will then," (Y/n) rises to her feet. "Love you, Dad."
Coulson smiles. "Love you too, kid."
(Y/n) crosses the living room, and makes her way through the group surrounding Natasha, and sitting down on the couch beside her. Natasha wraps her arm around (Y/n)'s waist, and (Y/n) lies her head on Natasha's shoulder.
After about half-an-hour, everyone clears out of the house, leaving Natasha and (Y/n) alone.
"I can't believe we're going to have kids," Natasha says, leaning her head against (Y/n)'s.
"I'm so excited," (Y/n) murmurs, closing her eyes. Bear jumps onto the couch, resting his head on her knee.

For your reading pleasure, included below is at least one fic rec for each pairing except the crossovers from non-Marvel fandoms (apologies to Mr. Potter & Mr. Stilinski). Most are gen fic, and even in the ones with a romantic pairing, romance is not the focus.
Tony Stark
As Subtle As Cognitive Recalibration by petroltogo (Teen, 8949) tumblr: @tonystarktogo
Standing inside his penthouse, listening to Rogers, Barton and Banner explain to Fury how they just happened to stumble over the Tesseract on a routine security check of Stark Tower’s roof and wouldn’t you know, they’ve managed to fight off the looming alien invasion before it could really start and secure the missing overpowered nightlight is one of the most surreal situations Tony has ever had the displeasure of experiencing.
Peter Parker
the worst field trip ever by shrill_fangirl_screaming (Teen, 3420) tumblr: @i-am-having-an-emotion
"We're on a field trip," Peter said. "To here. And Tony decided to be our tour guide and absolutely embarrass me, so can you please help get him under control?"
Which is how Peter Parker, architect of his own destruction, ended up with not one but two superhero pseudo-dads being annoying on his school field trip.
Steve Rogers
Do You Remember Being Happy? ('Cause I Sure Don't) by GalaxyThreads (Teen, 11022) tumblr: @galaxythreads
That seems about right. He doesn't know how he knows that, though. He does have vague memories of an annoyed fondness at finding peanut butter in some sort of jam. Thor's doing, because he doesn't see the point of using two knives when one works just as fine. He knows that. How does he know that? He knows all those little details, though, almost innately. How can he know these strangers so deeply?
Everyone else below the cut!
Loki
Proprietary by TheThirdMarauder (Teen, 7639)
No, Loki simply wants the Avengers conquered. The details of whom, how, and when matter not. Unless, of course, said details interfere with Loki's plans. Then, well, then none can fault him for protecting his own interests.
Loki has always been exceptionally good at lying to himself.
Natasha Romanov
What Girls Are Made Of by enigma731 (Teen, 4613) tumblr: @enigma731
She rolls her eyes but does as he’s indicated, using his shoulders to leverage herself up onto his back, her arms around his neck and her legs hugging his waist.
“You know,” he says blithely, “this isn’t really what I tend to picture when I think of a hot girl riding me.”
Natasha groans, deciding that if his sense of humor gets them arrested, she’ll kill him herself. “Just go.”
Clint Barton
Dear Clint Barton (circa age 7) by pollyrepeat (Teen, 4221)
With a normal person, this might count as blackmail material, but a) this is a case of mutually assured destruction if ever there was one, and b) Fury is immune to embarrassment. Not just in the regular, Tony Stark way, either, oh no. Things that could possibly end up being embarrassing to Fury get somehow warped and changed until they go from mortifying all the way over into useful and/or good for his image. It’s like a superpower.
Carrying Clint’s small child self around on his shoulders more than once has probably already hit the interagency rumour mill as an example of Fury’s innate awesomeness: good with rocket launchers and small children.
Also available as a podfic!
Bruce Banner
They're Not Wrong by Trumpeteer34 (Teen, 10163)
As Tony began to pace around the hole in the road to keep himself from shooting repulsors at the nearby buildings in a fit of rage, Thor began to study the nearby area. There was no sign of either the Hulk or Bruce Banner beyond the crater. The surrounding area, aside from the rubble of the fight, held no clue as to their friend’s location.
“Guys, he’s gone,” Tony growled into the communicator on their private line, drawing Thor out of his darkening thoughts. “Someone tranqed him and took him. He’s gone.”
Honorary mention goes to the Responsible Science series by @letteredlettered - the stories don’t have the "Avengers Team & Bruce Banner" tag, but they could, and they are amazing. The best Bruce Banner writing I've ever come across.
Thor
Fortunately, I Am Mighty by onward_came_the_meteors (General, 3062)
Steve was the first one to speak. “Are you okay?”
Thor nodded. Which was a bad idea, as it turned out, because now there were little gray lights flashing in front of his eyes. “I’m fine.” Absolutely everyone narrowed their eyes, and he added, “But, uh. Could we possibly not get back in the car just yet?”
Avengers Team
Civil Wasn't by onward_came_the_meteors (General, 7123)
"We're having an ideological conflict here," Tony stated with disbelief. "Are you telling me you still want to go out to dinner?"
"It's a standing engagement, Tony," Rhodey reminded him.
"Not you too—"
"We already had to reschedule from Friday when Natasha was..." Rhodey frowned. "What were you doing?"
The question was directed toward Natasha, who shrugged and said, "Spy stuff."
James "Bucky" Barnes
You Know How I Feel, aka, The Adventures of Bucky and Muffy the Dinosaur by ifeelbetter (Not Rated, 4511) tumblr: @ifeelbetterer
“As you may have heard, Bucky Barnes, a.k.a. The Winter Soldier, recently rescued a tiny part-robot dinosaur during the Avengers’ battle with Dr. Doom in Antarctica,” the other newscaster explained. “Pictures of Barnes and the dinosaur were posted on twitter by fellow Avenger, Clint Barton, a.k.a. Hawkeye, and immediately made Barnes’s new pet America’s sweetheart.”
“Her name’s Muffy,” said Steve."
Wanda Maximoff
and the woman was young again by Mira_Jade (General, 3669)
Tony Stark called them the Cap's Kooky Quintet, and sometimes the term amused her – causing her to lift a sardonic brow where someday a smile would truly smile. She enjoyed the presence of comrades – true comrades – and she enjoyed the way their minds wove and bound together about each other to fluctuate against her senses as one. There was something soothing about being in their midst, and even when their loud and brash ways – their painful Americaness - rubbed her raw and drained on her, it was ever the knitting of their minds that soothed those moments over, and made them inconsequential.
Phil Coulson
Coulson's First Day of School by storiesfortravellers (Teen, 3055)
Coulson looked up at him. “I like drawing pictures with Mr. Rogers. I like having tea parties with Ms. Potts. I like it when Dr. Banner reads me books, and I like it when Natasha teaches me things. And I like when you play with me. You do really good voices when we play action figures. And you’re the only one who lets me do stuff like jump off the high diving board at the pool or eat three cupcakes or play tackle with kids at the park.”
Clint didn’t realize that. He was pretty sure that meant that he was doing something wrong.
Darcy Lewis
Beginner Yoga for Dummies (Darcys) and Sad Hobos by chailover (Teen, 3434)
Darcy had a theory: crazy attracted crazy, working kind of like gravity. It was pretty much her explanation for her life after Thor. And if she had thought the type of crazy Thor attracted was bad, be it Loki or the Warrior Three and Sif, or the dark elves and the Convergence, it was still nothing against what the Avengers manage en masse.
Matt Murdock
Double Blind by smilebackwards (Teen, 2381) tumblr: @smilebackwards
Stark snaps his fingers. “You can’t see half of my inventions. This explains so much about you and why you’ve never been properly impressed by me.”
“Does it?” Matt says, ambiguously.
Sam Wilson
Bystander by scribblemetimbers (Teen, 52029)
“I just want you to know,” Sam says loudly, cautiously raising his hands, “That I’m very poor and very sleep-deprived and literally the only thing you can kill me for right now are my notes.” He pauses. Wait. On second thought: “Please don’t steal my notes.”
“I’m not—I’m not a mugger,” Not Mugger rasps out, and for all that he looks about to keel over and die, the man actually manages to sound offended.
Nick Fury
Bedtime Story by dixiehellcat (Teen, 2532) tumblr: @deehellcat
Fury snorted. “I have to check in with the duty officer. I’ll be back in, let’s say twenty minutes. I expect all of you to have whatever your pre-bedtime routines are completed, and be in here pajama’ed and ready to be read to.”
He tapped the book under his arm, then left with the usual dramatic swish of his long coat. Bruce scratched his head. “Did…he just say be ready to be read to?”
Pepper Potts
Pepper and the Avengers (Which She Knows Nothing About) by rebelmeg (General, 6696) tumblr: @rebelmeg
The Avengers, that mismatched group of hurt and heroism, was one of the most important things in Tony Stark’s life. So, naturally, Pepper had made them an important part of her life too.
Vision
039. Intoxicated by aimmyarrowshigh (Teen, 100) tumblr: @aimmyarrowshigh
It might be nice to fit in, just this once. To lose a bit of composure.
Vision floated over to the refrigerator and, with some timidity, pulled off a magnet. He stuck it to his forehead.

❛  there is no heroism in war — there are simply things that need to be done.  ❜ with tony and your choice of second person?
If there’s one thing that Tony learned from his father, it was that everyone will idolize the people in war who go too soon.
Every single Fourth of July, they visited the honorary headstone that was put up for Captain America. Howard waxes poetic about how strong and how brave this man was, and if he gets drunk (which is usually always a given) he talks to Tony about how much he wishes he had a son like good ole’ Steven Grant Rogers.
“Well, you first went wrong by agreeing to let Mama name me Anthony,” he says, because his words can be just like Howard’s.
He gets sent to his room for the remainder of that holiday, and watches fireworks that boom with impressive chemical reactions while overlooking the party that his parents host every single year.
His least favorite holiday is the Fourth of July. He lets people know it, says it in all the fluffy interviews, and he lets everyone think it’s because he can’t make fireworks himself, or that he hates his father’s patriotic legacy, and those are both true.
But not the real reason.
This continues for years. Tony is infamous for never celebrating the Fourth of July, especially after his parents’ deaths.
People speculate. Say it’s “too painful a day.”
Oh, it’s not. It’s far from painful. Tony simply just...doesn’t care about the day. He makes himself a nice drink, sits on his deck, and stares out at the ocean ahead of him. People ride on boats, there are fireworks going off all day, and he treats it like any other day.
And then he’s asked for an interview for a documentary on Captain America.
Everyone and their mother knew about Howard’s obsession; he wasn’t exactly quiet about it.
He says no.
“I don’t talk about him,” Tony says over the phone. “But good luck with your show.”
It makes it to the media. People accuse him of hating America, hating any symbol that represents America, and being a Communist.
“A billionaire being a Communist,” he muses the next time he’s out in public, and everyone’s microphones are shoved in his face. “I like that logic.”
Rhodey says that he is now on a watch-list.
“Aw, a late birthday present for me? You shouldn’t have,” Tony purrs. “How hard did you laugh, honey-pie?”
“For about ten minutes on and off after that meeting,” Rhodey says with a snort. “I’m just surprised they only have you on it now. Haven’t you threatened at least one government official before this?”
“I think my body count is ten as of last week,” Tony says.
“What’d you do last week?”
“Hm, you’ll find out about it soon enough.”
When he’s with Yinsen, he thinks that maybe he’ll be a hero. He’ll probably die and no one will ever find him, and then if he sees his father if there’s an afterlife, he’ll probably be proud of him.
Finally on the same level of Captain America.
But Tony thinks that maybe he’d like to see a Malibu sunset one more time. See Pepper groan as he ignores yet another set of paperwork, but smiles when he gets it done when her back is turned. Sit with Rhodey at a burger place and complain about everything in life.
So goddammit, he’s going to skip the whole hero shtick. Wasn’t his thing then, certainly not his thing now.
Yinsen looks at him with a smile.
“Ready to get out of here?”
“Yes, Tony. I think I am.”
It’s a cruel kind of joke, to be ready to get out of there and mean that your family is somewhere high up, open with open arms.
Tony grieves for a moment, but he only has one moment to spare before everything goes up in flames.
It’s enough of an explosion that Rhodey will know without a doubt it’s him. No one with any sort of military training would make that explosion, although Tony laughs as he soars into the sky and realizes that it looks similar to the unfortunate kitchen fire he started during their third year of college.
He just hopes they make it in time.
He creates Iron Man again. A better version, honestly...
At least, until the icing thing, which he was very stupid for overlooking, but he’s not going to blame himself too badly for it because he just created a suit that was made for flying.
He founds out that the man he viewed as more family than his own should never have been trusted, and he nearly dies on a couch that is honestly not that comfortable to begin with.
He decides people won’t know he’s Iron Man. He doesn’t want to give them that much satisfaction, that much more motivation to kill him.
He knows he’s not a hero. He also knows that if they knew about Iron Man, most people would probably scoff. Wonder how long this little fad for the rich guy would last.
Tony doesn’t want people to know he’s doing it, especially not the board.
When he announced that the weapons manufacturing department was shutting down, he knew that Obadiah wasn’t the only person in power who had the means to subvert things without being caught onto, at least for a few months.
Iron Man--if he wasn’t directly tied to Stark Industries--had a much better chance of destroying old weapon shipments.
He wasn’t expecting to become a hero. He also wasn’t expecting people to catch on, regardless of how much Rhodey and Pepper laughed at this at their Sunday dinners. (New thing that they’re trying out, Tony likes it a bit too much.)
Well, not everyone catches on.
Fortunately for him, SHIELD doesn’t. They want to know who Iron Man is, if they can sway him to work for them. Tony nearly laughs every single time they send a newbie agent to survey the property or have Agent Coulson visit about every month.
“You’ll have to be careful,” Agent says on one of his monthly routine visits. They never say what time he’s coming, which is why Jarvis has been given permission to go wherever he likes in their servers.
Jarvis pretends like he’s not as excited as a kid on a holiday.
“We’re just asking for a little transparency,” Agent asks, on one of his tirades.
“Will that be all, Agent?” Tony asks, entirely over this little interaction. He had really been banking on Fury sending in a new recruit, and Tony would get to scare them with his new loud-speaker he’d been working on...
“Well actually-”
“Tony, you should be on a first-name basis by now,” Pepper says, sweeping gracefully into the room. “Good afternoon Phil, good to see you again.”
“You as well, Ms. Potts. I hope your business dinner went smoothly?”
“It did.”
“I don’t like how friendly you two are,” Tony says, narrowing his eyes. “And Phil? You want me to call him Phil?”
“You could call me Phillip,” Agent suggests.
“Who are you, a member of the royal family?” Tony asks. “I hope not.”
“We’ll be in touch,” Agent says.
“Don’t be,” Tony says. “We’re fine here. Iron Man’s watching you.”
"Mind telling me where?” Phil asks lightly, knowing he will not be getting a serious answer of any sort.
“Well unfortunately, Iron Man signed a very extensive babysitting contract. All hush-hush, you know how NDA’s can be, darling.”
Agent sighs, and then leaves.
Pepper looks after him.
“You know, SHIELD could use someone like you.”
“They could use something,” Rhodey says with a snort. “They want the suit and leverage on top.”
“Exactly,” Tony agrees.
“So? Negotiate,” Pepper says with a shrug. “Make it work for you. You’ve done it before.”
“We’ll see,” Tony says, diving back into the circuits. “We’ll see.”
He does not see.
They tell him that Captain America got defrosted, and there Steve Rogers is in an ice block, at least until they can melt down the ice surrounding his feet.
Agent is, of course, over the moon.
“You could at least pretend to be professional,” Tony mutters, eyes not tearing away from the man in front of them. “Where are you going to put him?”
“Rehabilitation program through SHIELD.”
“And your plan for that?”
“On a need-to-know basis.”
“Oh, so it’ll go terribly. Wonderful.”
“It won’t go terribly,” Agent says. “There may be some hiccups, but that happens with everything. I’m sure Iron Man wasn’t picture-perfect when you found him.”
“Of course not, but he isn’t...he isn’t this,” Tony says, gesturing to the melting block of ice.
Phil turns back to look.
“I think your dad would be over the moon.”
“Best day since the fucking Fourth of July for him,” Tony says bitterly, turning away. “I gotta get going. Let me know if you need anything for him.”
“I think we have it handled, unless you want to send Iron Man over as a bodyguard.”
“Ha ha,” Tony says sarcastically. “How smart of you to offer. He’ll have to decline due to extenuating circumstances.”
Of course SHIELD bungles Steve Rogers. Terribly.
He doesn’t know which history-major-dropout they got to coordinate the room’s details or the details of his life in general, but they did a truly terrible job.
God, Tony only half-paid attention to his dad’s rants about the “good old days” and Rogers’ whole biography of life, and he could’ve done a better job while drunk.
But it’s not his job to fix, and he’s more focused on making sure that Iron Man stays busy, because if he doesn’t then SHIELD tends to think he’s bored. (And he is...don’t get him wrong. But not that bored.)
Aliens.
Fucking aliens.
They bring a man back from oblivion in immortality, and now they have aliens.
It’s one of those things where Tony just says “alright” and goes with it.
They want Iron Man aboard, and Tony asks where he’s wanted.
“Just Iron Man,” Coulson says, an apologetic smile on his face.
Tony shoots him one right back.
“Because I know this wasn’t your decision, Agent, I won’t be mad at you. Also because you’re one of Pep’s favorite people. But it’s like salt-and-pepper shakers; just having one is sad.”
That’s all the explanation SHIELD gets, until they learn to ask Rhodey.
“You have any mechanics that Tony trusts with that suit?” he asks.
"We have a variety of skilled mechanics that would be happy to help,” the man says over the phone.
“No,” Rhodey says, grinning. “I mean, do you have any that Tony knows and trusts?”
The phone is silent after that.
“I thought as much. Well, let Tony know I’m eating his leftovers since he left them in the fridge to help you guys out with the end of the world or whatever.”
Click.
The Avengers is a shit-show.
But Tony is very excited to see one man in particular, and that’s Bruce Banner. Doctor Bruce Banner, if you wanted to get technical. (If you wanted to get even more technical, you could add about six more “doctors” in there.)
They work well together, and Tony gets a tiny view into how Bruce works, in a sense.
They found him playing doctor, and he wasn’t exactly happy to leave.
Tony tells him that he thinks that there’s more to his life.
“So what, Hulk...saved my life?” Bruce asks, and Tony can tell he doesn’t believe it, can tell how he’s avoiding looking through the glass across the way.
(Tony’s broken a window that way, having eye contact with himself.)
“Yes,” Tony says simply. “And I’m glad he did, because I have a lot to ask you about...”
And then, you know.
Life happens.
You make about three too many jokes, and suddenly you and Captain America have this weird tension thing, and then you have to manually turn a fan so the entire ship crew doesn’t die.
It seems to run on some form of electricity!
God, what a nightmare.
Aliens invade.
Tony learns about how to tell the modern telling of Jonah and the Whale, and he also learns that he never wants to learn anything about space again.
Hulk also makes a lovely alarm.
Bruce is the first to move in.
Well, he’s kind of forced to, but not really, because Tony promises that he won’t actively try to get Hulk to come out for things, and Bruce is swayed by the promise of getting bagels for breakfast.
Natasha and Clint trail in next, and Natasha says that she told Steve to come to.
“You didn’t ask me if I was okay with that,” Tony says with a frown. “But I suppose it’s better than whatever accommodations SHIELD pulls.”
Clint snorts.
“You got that right.”
Thor knows he has a place to stay at, should he ever need it. He smiles at Banner on his way up to Asgard to send his brother to alien-jail, or whatever they call it up there.
Tony doesn’t ask about it.
He and Bruce drive home in one of his flashy cars, and Bruce looks a little lost at all the posters hung up around the city, the ones with a green man grinning.
“They like you,” Tony says. “Good job.”
“Not like they hate Iron Man or anything,” Bruce says. “I just...I’m not a hero.”
Tony nods. Doesn’t say anything. He gets the sentiment.
(He knows how this will go.)
Hiding Iron Man is...harder. Admittedly.
Steve keeps wanting to talk to him about battle strategy, and Tony is at work, so it’s not like he can conference call.
(Okay well he can, but Pepper yelled at him for wearing the helmet in his office.)
Natasha and Clint are naturally curious, as they’re supposed to be. The only problem is that both of them have professional training in how to make that curiosity dangerously effective.
Thor doesn’t really mind, although he keeps making hints that he could take Iron Man to get better armor.
“Sorry lightning rod, I’ll pass,” Iron Man says on one mission. “Now, where is my favorite doctor...”
“He’s already back at the Tower,” Clint says. “Said something about wanting to ask Tony a question on his experiment.”
Iron Man pauses.
“...alright. I’ll start jetting home, meet you guys there.”
Iron Man barely makes it into his “section” before Bruce is coming down the stairs, muttering and holding papers.
“Tony?”
“Yes, dear!” Tony calls, scrambling to shed off the armor before Bruce could get too close.
It didn’t work.
He has one of the gloves still on his palm as he faces Bruce.
“...what.”
“Um, just. Trying out the schematics. Of the suit. For Iron Man.”
“You’re...you’re Iron Man?”
“Well, let’s not throw around accusations that can’t be proved.”
“You have literally stated in interviews that the suit is custom-fit to the user,” Bruce says. “I have the magazine that that’s from.”
“Well, I have a...similar body type?”
“Oh my god.” Bruce blinks, readjusting his glasses. “Do the others...Natasha knows, right? She has to know.”
“Absolutely not,” Tony says. “Of course not! Why would she know?”
“Because she’s a spy, Tony! That’s what spies do!”
“Well then she’s a bad one!”
There’s silence for a moment as they stare at each other.
Tony sighs, heading over to the chairs set aside.
“I imagine you’ll have questions, Dr. Banner.”
“Of course I do.”
Tony gestures somewhere, telling Jarvis to put the lab in blackout mode, no one out or in, and to update Pepper on the NDA situation.
“Why’d you hide it?” Bruce asks.
“No one needs to know it’s me. Easier to balance work and home life.”
Bruce looks at him.
“Do not bullshit me.”
Tony looks over at a blue hologram of a project he’s working on.
“In all honesty, I’d like to say that it’s because of that, but I’ve never actually balanced work and home. It’s just...ugh. It’s personal. Can I say it’s personal, and you drop it?”
“I mean, you could,” Bruce says. “But I still know that you’re him and he’s you, and you’ve been hiding that you’re a hero for years.”
“I wouldn’t call it being a hero,” Tony says. “Just tying up loose ends.”
“And saving the world, can’t forget that one,” Bruce says.
“Well if you call me a hero, then I get to do the same thing for you.”
“Hulk is not a hero, he’s a carefully monitored rage monster.”
“Was that what we were doing the whole time we were up against the Chitauri? Monitoring the Hulk while multitasking? I don’t know if you’ve read the scientific news, Bruce, but none of us can multitask as well as we think.”
“Not the point.”
“Yes the point.”
They stare at each other.
“Why don’t you want to be known as a hero?” Bruce asks, finally.
“I’m not the type of person anyone wants for a hero.”
“And am I?” Bruce asks with a smile.
“Are any of us?” Tony responds.
So they sit, and there’s this comfortable familiarity about being the same, looking at things the same, if not for a bit of difference.
Bruce finally speaks up.
“So. Who are we betting to be the last to know? Because I think it’ll be Natasha.”
“Are you crazy? She’s gonna be the next to know.”
“I don’t know, Clint can be pretty perceptive.”
“Oh come on. If anything, it’ll be Thor. He’s almost never here, and he never drops by with a message beforehand.”
“I bet you a smoothie that it’s Nat.”
“You’re on.”
Nat is the last one to figure it out. Bruce just shrugs as Tony looks at him, mouth open.
“How did you...?”
“I know things,” Bruce says.
(Not true: he’s been waging psychological warfare on Nat ever since he made that bet because he wanted a peach-mango smoothie.)
Neither think of themselves as heroes. But sometimes, you don’t think of yourself as a hero even though you are one. (Not that they know that other people’s perceptions hold sway.)

So has anyone else thought what Philinda's wedding will be like?
Coulson only wants a formal wedding to see Alya as flower girl
"It will be so adorable!"
May agrees to it because his smile his so dang endearing
The FitzSimmons family is thrilled at the news (of the nuptials)
Their even more excited about their involvement in the wedding
Since the finale, Jemma and Fitz had a son named Charles after the scientist Fitz admired so much he kept a framed photo
He's too young to walk down the aisle, so Flint becomes the official bearer of the ringbearer and carries him down the aisle while holding Alya's hand
Seriously, guys. Phil only wants this fancy wedding because of how cute his honorary grandkids will be
Melinda is going through with it because of how cute they will be
It should be noted that Alya has a major crush on Flint ("Aw, Fitz! Alya has her first crush.")
Melinda's mom suggests that it's only fair that Alya has a day in the wedding dress if she has to wear matching dress.
She is absolutely trolling her daughter
Melinda's dad says, "This is the first time you and I agree on something in a long time"
He just really wants a framed photo of his daughter holding her honorary granddaughter, which makes him honorary great-grandfather
He sends Alya and Charlie presents on the reg much to Fitz's chagrin
Jemma reminds him that their the first children William gets to spoil since his Mellie
Alya of course picks the Mulan wedding dress because Mulan is her favorite princess ("She sounds exactly like Nana Mellie!" - She's convinced that May really is Mulan somehow..."Time travel is a thing")
She also cannot believe that her Nana Mellie has a Da of her own
"Wow! You must be as old as the star I'm named after."
Melinda agrees to a variation of Alya's dream dress that replaces the lace with sheer fabric ("I hate lace" she confides to Jemma)
Mack, Fitz, and Daniel are the groomsmen with Daniel as best man
"OMG, Melinda! I cannot believe Agent Sousa is going to be my best man!"
"Relax, Phil. It's only because Daisy's going to be my maid of honor, and she wants to walk down the aisle with her boyfriend"
Jemma and Yoyo round out the bridesmaids
The ladies all wear similar dresses/suit that fit their personalities
Bobbi and Hunter are the ushers
"Mom and Dad are finally tying the knot! We can't miss this"
Piper and Davis are trusted to make sure nothing interrupts the wedding
Mainly because without this mission, their bickering will
The wedding goes off perfectly and everyone treasures the wedding photos

Stark Sibs
HAVE AT THEE
Warnings: Canon-Typical Violence. Fictional Knowledge and Use Science & Magic
The resulting fight was pitiful, to say the least.
Right after the wall exploded, a raging battle occurred and Tony appeared out from the kitchen in the armor as if he was walked in with it on. No one could really tell what was going on with all the smoke from the debris and the occasional smoke bomb arrows going off, but the attackers got what they came for.
Two of the unknown children staying with the Avengers.
Two of the Stark Siblings.
When all the dust settled, everyone turned to see Pym and Selene missing. You could tell where Pym put up a fight, but Selene had been still low on energy. Everyone noticed immediately where the last amount of her energy went. Protecting Maggie, Jim, and Laura as they were still floating around in impenetrable bubble. Two empty syringes were left lying on the floor not too far away.
James had disappeared to protect the other children in the tower right after the wall exploded. Torunn stood guard by the elevator wildly slashing anybody that got near. The only real light came from Azari, Torunn, and Tony as lightning and the repulsors shined around.
Francis who was dead on his feet was staring angry at the hole as if he wished he could collect enough energy to go after his siblings, but he just conjured up a special arrow that Selene made for him and threw it at the bubble and let it burst.
“So who’s going to be the one that tells Hope and James that their younger siblings got nabbed,” Francis chirped. Azari and Torunn flinched like they had been struck. Even Tony had a look of unease on his face. The twins would die for one another and still somehow manage to kill any and everybody that just so happens to look at the other wrong in the afterlife. And Hope and Hank… When they found out that Pym was theirs biologically, there was so much emotion in the room that Selene’s I’m trying to channel my mother and pretend I don’t have emotions mask fell and tears fell from her face. When they find out that someone took Pym, well ants and wasps would be the last of their worries.
“F.R.I.D.A.Y. activate Protocol Spy Squatter,” Tony directed to the AI before turning towards the remaining children. None of the Avengers had ever seen Tony so angry. Not even Steve and Bucky and they fought him just after seeing his parents brutally murdered. His facial expression was cold as his gaze swept over everyone. The suit hovered behind menacingly didn’t help either. Holograms filled with each of the Stark children’s faces including honorary children (Pietro, Peter, Harley, Kamala, Torunn, Francis, Azari, James, Selene, Pym & Vision).
Pym and Selene’s smiling pictures seemed to mock them all. Their trackers stated they were moving in two different directions and they were both still unconscious. The readings of Selene’s biometrics were still scarily low.
Another hologram popped up. And smaller holograms surrounded it. Sharon Carter. Nick Fury. Gamora. Maria Hill. Melinda May. Phil Coulson. Potential Candidate: Natasha Romanov Potential Candidate: Clinton Barton
But it was the last name that surprises them all.
Margaret “Peggy” Carter. Status: Alive
“Peggy,” Steve whispered. Francis glanced his way before storming towards the elevators. “I’m going to tell the others,” he threw over his shoulder.
Six holograms popped up as the video calls went through. Tony didn’t even waste time for greetings. He just started the conversation with, “Someone kidnapped Pym and Selene.”
Everyone watched as an array of emotions crossed all of their faces before Maria, Melinda, Sharon, and Peggy were loading up their guns and stating that they were on their way. Their holograms clicked off leaving Fury and Coulson on the screens.
“What do we know?”
Tony stepped outside of the armor and shook his head. “They’re heading in two different directions. Pym’s heading towards Norway and… and Selene is heading towards Siberia. They’ve only been missing approximately twenty minutes so magic may be involved.”
Coulson nodded his head, “I’ll get Dr. Strange on the phone. And call ahead to the UN to let them know what’s going on, but Tony, you may have to reveal their existence after this.”
Tony turned his head in frustration and Peter placed a comforting hand on his shoulder. Gamora stood guard beside the couple as if any of them would risk coming near the sword she carried.
Fury nodded his head, “I’ll call Pepper for you and have her set everything up.” Tony made a noise of agreement as Fury clicked off and Peter pulled Tony into a hug.
“After all of this is over, let’s get married,” he paused, “Again.”
Tony chuckled into his embrace, “You’re always proposing to me when I’m losing my mind.”
Peter smiled brightly, “I didn’t hear you complaining the first 55 times.” They both heard the affection in Gamora’s voice when she called them idiots.
Meanwhile…
Selene had just made it to Siberia. She was still very much unconscious, but if she were awake she would see empty cyro pods. Destroyed support beams. Familiar repulsors scorches.
Nevertheless, the Enchantress didn’t care for her familiarity to the surroundings. She just needed to separate the Avengers from around the young Asgardian. Thor was to be her lover. Not Sif’s. Not Jane Foster’s. And she will erase all evidence of it all.
She had already split two of the youngest up. With a smiling face, she began making her plans to get rid of the rest when the small girl lying at her groan. Intrigued and a little shock, the Enchantress noticed a small puddle surrounding the girls’ head. The Enchantress wasted no time diving into the mind of the young girl.
Images flashed before her eyes, though her eyes widen at the new frame of information that presented itself.
The daughter of Captain America and the Black Widow being raised by their enemy Iron Man.
Things have just gotten interesting. --
Pym was sitting on top of a giant ant hill. It was the size of a mountain. His eyes were filled with anger though unfocused at the same time. He was fiddling with something in his hands as they approached him.
“Pym, come down from there,” Hope called out. Pym just tilted his head and said, “My sister. Unexpected. Assessment: potential threat. Commencing termination.”
Ants began to pour out of the hill and instead of listen to Hope’s encouragement to leave them alone, they continued towards them.
“They are under a spell connected the boys’ mind. I have to be close to wipe away the connection, but I fear he has to either shocked or knocked out the beginnings of the spell now,” Doctor Strange assessed as he released several of the magically enchanted ants.
“What is it that Torunn used to say? Oh, yeah. HAVE AT THEE!”
Giant wasps flew towards them and Peter wanted to take his friends, his husband, and the rest of his not magically brainwashed children onto the Milano and go on a trip around the universe. But he didn’t because that would be bad. Gamora and Tony and Nebula would kill him. And Selene would revive him just to kill him for leaving her. He could hear her now, “How dare you steal my dad and brothers and sister and leave us here with these heathens! COME BACK AND GET US OR WE'LL FIND A WAY TO FOLLOW YOU INTO SPACE!”
He was painfully reminded that he was in the middle of a battle when one of the wasps that Drax batted away flew towards him. Peter shot right through it and flew to his husband’s side. “Hey starlight, I was thinking we could go to this nice little planet were the sky is pink and the grass is blue and get married there.”
Gamora, who was furiously cutting down the giant wasp, commented over the comm, “Tony, it is my turn to be the Maid of Honor. Nebula was it the last ten times.” Nebula, who had taken to riding one wasp while taking down the others, replied back, “Its not my fault his last dresses went with my complexion!”
Natasha, honest to gods, stopped in her attacks on the ants and looked up at Tony with the most shocked look on her face, “You wore a dress?”
“In case you didn’t notice it, I have a rather appealing figure and my dresses just complimented my curves,” Tony snarked back as dodge another wasp.
“HULK SMASH!”
“Tony,” Hope began over the comms. She would’ve continued but at that moment, Pym jumped from his post and showed off just how much he was watching his family and their martial arts training. (Adding on to the fact that he could shrink and grow at will… the battle was really interesting especially since they knew if they stepped out of line in subduing him… Hope, Tony, Vision, Peggy, Sharon, May, Maria, Coulson, Hank, and all of the Guardians would slaughter them alongside the other Stark children residing back at the house (and Selene when she regained her mind).
“I AM GROOOOOOOT!”
“Doc said he needed to be shocked to wipe away the enchantment. Dad, you have to do it,” Francis commented over the comms. Tony shook his head. No dad wanted to actively shoot their child with repulsors.
Tony went down under five giant wasps and three oversized ants.
With a few pointed spells from Stephen, a couple of Mind Stone beams from Vision, Rocket having a lot fun with his gun, and a couple of repulsors blast, Tony flew back into the air covered in guts but was up and at 'em.
“HOPE! KNOCK HIM OUT OR SOMETHING!” Tony screamed as he dodged one of Pym’s massive fists.
“I’m working on the or something part because this suit isn’t made for going giant!” She yelled back from wherever she miniaturized at. More than likely holding onto someone because Pym was having fun as Giant Man and took to trying to step on everyone, he vaguely heard Sharon and his Aunt Peggy yelped as they moved out of the way. A beam of red magic soared over Pym’s head as he shifted back into regular height.
“DAD YOU HAVE TO DO IT!” The Stark Siblings yelled through the comm as Spiderman swung into the area and webbed Pym’s legs together.
“Mr. Stark, you have to do it now!” He encouraged. Sighing internally, Tony flew to Pym and shot a unibeam close but not too close to his face. Pym froze long enough for Peter to push him gently but forcibly on his legs for him to fall backwards. Right as his eyes began to close; Tony noticed the fogginess in them clear out as he shifted back into his small stature and landed in Drax’s arms.
Hope grabbed him and cradled in her arms while Stephen called off all of the ants. Maria, May, Peggy, and Sharon offered to take them and Peter back to the tower. They didn’t feel entirely comfortable leaving the kids home slightly unprotected. Though that didn’t stop them from threatening to kill all of the members of Team Cap if any of them so much as slip out of line.
Tony knew it was a good day when Peggy and Sharon both walked up to Steve and punched him in the face. -- Selene stood there in the same way Pym stood. Her eyes filled with anger though unfocused at the same time. A cruel smirk danced on her lips and she leaned slightly forward like the dangerous spider she is.
“Isn’t this just wonderful. The whole family is here,” the Enchantress drawled. “Go on little spider, say hello to your parents.”
Selene walked forward and turned towards Captain America and Black Widow, both of who were standing side by side.
“Hi, mom,” Selene stated. Her eyes’ turned an even darker shade of green as she looked at Steve. “Hi, dad.”
Iron Man walk forward with his hands up cautiously, “Selene, Little Red, I need you to break the spell.”
Selene turned to look at him, “Spell? There is no spell. The Enchantress has finally managed to open my eyes. I’ve been so bitter and angry at them. At ALL of them for hurting you. When I really just didn’t want to deal with the feeling of being hurt and abandon by my parents for the second time. When I didn’t want to acknowledge the fact that this time they willingly hurt you. That they tore apart my family for a second time. Because the way they see the world is more important than being there for their children.”
Tony took a deep breath inside the suit because he knew. He knew this was how she truly felt. She might have a gotten a little relief of yelling and berating Steve and his team for hurting him. She might always blow off a little steam regarding that, but he knew she had never gotten over them leaving and hurting her family. (Interdimensional him included) He understood how angry she is that instead of her parents leaving for the good of the world… they decided to leave for the good of themselves.”
“I know, Ali. I know. But you can’t hold that against them. They didn’t know,” he pleaded. Peter came to stand beside him as Selene continued to stare down her parents. She stood quiet for a few moments before a scowl marred her face.
“You are right. They didn’t know they had children, but they had you and you were their family. The Black Widow’s actions paralyzed Uncle Rhodey’s form. And because Steve Rogers decision to prioritize one man over everyone else led to you nearly dying alone in Siberia,” she slowly slipped into a defensive form. “They may not have known they had children, but their actions were going to leave me orphan. And I am sick and tired of losing parents!”
She sprang forward and her fist connected with Steve’s jaw before she kicked out and knocked Natasha away.
“SELENE, NO!” Tony yelled as she jumped towards Hawkeye.
The Enchantress watched through narrowed eyes. “Her mind is twisting the enchantment. How is she doing that?”
A blast from a space gun threw her on her ass. She continued to magically dodge the shots and instead waved her hand and minions formed from the snow to fight and defend.
“Selene, listen to me,” Tony begged dodging the arrows and knives being thrown left to right at the little girl who miraculously were dodging them.
“Dad, Francis said to check one of your arm compartments. There’s an arrow in there made by Apollo specifically for healing a mind. In this case, Selene. Shooting a repulsor beam won’t work this time,” James’ voiced played over the comms.
Her two main targets were her parents. If one was out of her range, she went for the other and if they both were being blocked by somebody, then she didn’t hesitant to go through them.
“I think it’s time to even the playing field,” Selene hissed.
“Uh oh,” Francis and Pietro stated over the comms.
“Uh oh,” Starlord repeated. “What do you mean, ‘Uh oh’?!”
Dozens of copies of Selene emerge from the water surrounding them. The original was lost in the masses.
Then they all attacked.
“Dad, you need to get to make a big puddle surrounding all of them then just shoot the arrow in. And you have to do it quick before she gains full power,” Francis stressed out.
“This isn’t full power?!” Hawkeye yelped as he went down under fast fluidity of the little girl’s fist. The Enchantress’ eyes widen before she snarled. “Keep them busy, little spider. I have a godling to visit.”
She disappeared in a flash of green as Selene continued to fight her way towards her parents and pummeling through anyone in her way.
“SELENE! I DIDN’T KNOW! I KNOW IT'S NO EXCUSE FOR MY ACTIONS AND IT'S JUST MORE RED IN MY LEDGER THAT I HAVE TO ATONE FOR, BUT I DIDN’T KNOW! I WAS HORRIBLE TO TONY AND I SHOULDN’T HAVE BEEN. HE GAVE ME A HOME. HE GAVE ME A FAMILY. AND DAMMIT, HE GAVE ME CHILDREN! AND YES, I DID FAIL YOU. TWICE, IF IM NOT MISTAKEN. BUT I WANT TO MAKE UP FOR IT. TONY TOOK CARE OF YOU IN THE OTHER WORLD AND HE’S TAKING CARE OF YOU NOW! I UNDERSTAND THAT HE’S THE ONLY PARENT YOU’VE EVER HAD, BUT I’M TRYING TO BE THERE NOW! I WILL BE THE MOTHER YOU’VE ALWAYS NEEDED ME TO BE, BUT ONLY IF YOU LET ME,” the Black Widow yelled out as she dodged blows from one of the Selene lookalikes. They all froze at her words before turning their backs on her and attacking their way towards Steve.
“I lost both of my parents in my world! I HATED YOU! I understood that the world was going to hell and you needed to save it! But it didn’t matter in the end because the world still went to hell,” they sneered.
“I don’t think he understands where we’re coming from,” they all stated in unison. “Maybe if we looked like this.”
The water rushed around them and turned them all into copies of Bucky. Bucky, the real one, stared wide eyed at all the copies of him.
“Stevie,” and their voice even sounded like him. “Why did you hurt your family?”
Steve stood still as a Bucky lookalike stood before him looking hurt and angst. “You’re my family too, Buck.”
A sneer flashed against their faces too quick to register, “Yes. To the end of the line, right? But you said the Avengers were Stark’s family and you took that from him. I took that from him.”
Steve immediately began to object to that while everyone else looked on in astonishment. “It wasn’t you, Buck. Tony should have-“
The look alike in front of Steve turned into Clint, “It wasn’t me who killed all of those S.H.I.E.L.D. agents. Where were you when S.H.I.E.L.D. threw me to all kinds of shrinks and therapists? When I couldn’t see my family? Where was your I-have-to-protect-my-friend hypocritical bullshit then? Why weren’t you tearing apart airports for me?”
Steve looked a little shock and frozen in place. “Clint, I-“
Then Clint morphed into Wanda, “Where were was your care for my mental state after I witness the last of my family dying in front of me… again?”
“Wanda-“
Wanda morphed into Tony, “Where were you when it was me after Wanda messed with my head? You attacked me, blamed me, and made sure that I knew I fucked up. Where were you when her magic was creeping into my room at night? When it got so bad I had to move out of my own home?”
Steve, looking at Tony with a pain of an unrequited love, whispered, “It wasn’t his fault.”
The Tony look alike tilted his head to the side, “For more than half of my life, I blamed Howard for killing my mom. I hated him for drinking so much before driving and crashed the car into the tree. I blamed myself for arguing with Howard that night to send him into a drunken rage. And then to find out it wasn’t neither of our faults all along… it was a murder that took them away from me.”
Steve looked to be on the verge of tears, “Tony...”
“Did you think that I was going to welcome you back with open arms? After your little princess dropped a freaking car lot on me? After you threw a truck onto of Spiderman? Did you fantasize about it? Thinking that the second you had the chance you dish out your meaningless apologies that we’d skip off into the sunset? Where you thought you had the chance to win my love again?”
The look alike laughed darkly and the real Tony stared wide eyed. He didn’t realize how perceptive Selene was. It made sense. She always said that thoughts and feelings were in constant fluidity. He just didn’t know that her powers could reach out to them.
“Tell me, Cap, what were going to do Siberia with just you and Barnes? If Zemo actually activated the soldiers? What were going to do? Was it something like, ‘I have to go stop the guy who can trigger Bucky’s Hydra programming- better take Bucky and not the people that can’t turn on me!’” The look alike laughed bitterly, “To be fair, I made mistakes too. I assumed friendship comes with trust and honesty. My bad.”
The look alike stepped closer with a maniacal look in its eyes and Tony knew at that moment… that was the real Selene. Her famed wicked smile looked unnatural on his face yet at the same time, it looked as if it belongs.
“Do it now,” Francis growled into the comm. Tony landed beside Hawkeye and gave him the arrow. He wordlessly pointed at the puddle of water surrounding Selene.
“I.DONT.LOVE.YOU.” The look alike manages to bite out right as Hawkeye shot the arrow.
As the arrow soared through the air, everyone jumped at the sound of gunshots coming across their comms. They could distinctively hear Torunn screeched out, “UNCLE LOKI!” over the comms as the Enchantress enraged and jealous voice carried over. Maria bit out into the comm, "Stark, we could use some back up over here."
The Tony look alike flicked back to Selene as the arrow hit the puddle. She started to fall backwards similarly to Pym as the spell went away, but unlike Pym, a golden light shined across them all and the small whisper of “Noelani…” was heard.

Lineage - Steve Rogers/Reader
Imagine Steve Rogers meeting Phil Coulson’s daughter before a mission…
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Steve glanced up at the woman taking a seat at the mission table. He’d never seen her before but he got a familiar vibe from her. She looked over at him and smiled, “Hi there.”
He smiled grateful for the ease you put the room at. He was used of new people staring at him awed and amazed, “Hi, Steve Rogers.”
“I know.” You continued to smile at him, “Y/N Coulson.”
“Coulson? Any relation to the late Phil.” He raised his eyebrows slightly.
“Yeah, he’s my dad.” You watched his face changed quickly from getting to know you to regret, “It’s okay…He didn’t talk about me much at work. You know the whole keeping each other safe thing.”
“I’m very sorry…” Steve sighed softly, “He was a good man.”
“I know.” You nodded slowly a small smile still resting on your features, “He spoke very highly of you after he met you. First you were just his hero, but then…well his words were “He’s so cool.’”
Steve smiled a soft chuckle leaving his throat, “That sounds like him.”
“Yeah…he was pretty blunt.” You looked down at your hands, “To be honest I don’t know how he’d feel about me heading out on mission with you.”
“We’re going to be fine. This is a run-of-the-mill in-and-out job.” He told you.
“I’m not worried.” You perked up a little, “I’ve trained for this. My dad taught me tricks the academy never did and besides…”
He smiled seeing that bright curiosity that every Coulson seemed to have, “Besides?”
“I’m working with Captain America.” You smirked a little leaning forward slightly, “Hey does that make me an honorary member of the Avengers?”
He let out another laugh opening his folder up, “I suppose after today we’ll find out.”

And family means that nobody gets left behind or forgotten.
After finding out that Marcus is his nephew, Shawn struggles with the adjustment of having to care for Marcus and his girlfriend, Breana, who definitely has some issues of her own cause by years of trauma before her family found her again and she subsequently met Marcus. But having his own teenagers, especially bionic ones, opens him up to the world of superheroes, especially teenage ones, more than he ever though he would go into. He never though that he would take in strays, but he wouldn't give up his band of misfit superpowered teens for anything. Though he has to pass Marcus along to Jack at some point when Jack gets back in the US, being a foster dad to super teens is certainly interesting.

The Sky’s Tsunami - Chapter 14
Tumblr media
3rd Person POV
Ward is downstairs in the cargo hold of the BUS, his fists nailing a punching bag that (Y/n) is holding onto.
"You know you're late," Ward says and (Y/n) looks over at Skye, who was walking down the spiral staircase.
"I'm tired from the morning's workouts," Skye retorts. "I though I was joining SHIELD, not 24 Hour Fitness."
"It's called relative strength training," Ward says, checking Skye's wrapped hands, "starting with the basics. And the next time you're late, you do fifteen push-ups for every minute you're late."
"Fine, Mr. Fun Machine, better than pull-ups," Skye complains. "I don't ever want to do another pull-up again."
"You're very lenient with your students," (Y/n) comments, an eyebrow raised in Ward's direction. "I'd make my agents run a mile plus twenty pull-ups every minute they were late. And anyway, you find yourself hanging off the edge of a building twenty stories up, you'll wanna do at least one."
"Stand here," Ward says. "Jab cross, like this," Ward demonstrates the position, punching the bag a few times, (Y/n) moving across to her own bag. "Ten minutes. You know the hardest part about boxing?" he asks as Skye hits the bag weakly a few times.
"Getting punched in the face?" Skye asks.
"Keeping your hands up," Ward tells her.
"Why do I even have to do this?" Skye asks. "I'm sure Fitz-Simmons' supervising officer didn't make them do all this muscle stuff."
(Y/n) laughs, "I'd bet you'd love do do some of their stuff. Wasn't fun."
"Hey Simmons, what did you S.O. give you guys for morning drills?" Ward asks.
"Oh, Atomistic Attribute drills," Simmons answers excitedly. "Yeah, we'd name the mechanical, chemical, thermal -" Skye looks over, a slightly disgusted look on her face as she throws another halfhearted punch at the bag.
"- Electrical properties of materials," Fitz adds.
"Okay, okay. They made your point," Skye says, (Y/n) throwing a couple punches at her bag.
"There will come a moment when you have to commit to this or bail," Ward says, holding Skye's punching bag steady. "Every field agent has a defining moment. Ask Coulson. Or -" (Y/n) clears her throat to stop Ward, shooting him a look. "When you have to make the hard call. To either dedicate yourself to this or curl up in a ball and run."
"How can you run if you're curled up in a ball?" Skye asks and (Y/n) nods.
"I do it all the time," (Y/n) says and Skye suppresses a laugh. "It's quite fun, actually."
"It's my job as you S.O. to make sure you don't die before then," Ward tells her, ignoring (Y/n)'s comment.
"So what was yours, Agent Ward?" Skye asks.
"Ten minutes," Ward says through gritted teeth.
"Your defining moment?" Skye presses. "Come on, tell me," she says after Ward's silence. "I could get Coulson to give you some of truth serum. You could spill your little heart out to me again."
"You mean my Level One overshare?" Ward questions, raising an eyebrow, "that miraculously got you to cooperate?"
Skye looks at him quizzically.
"I hate to tell you this, Rookie, but we don't have a truth serum," Ward says and (Y/n) lets out a chuckle, pulling on the Black Widow hoodie she had bought as a joke.
Tumblr media
"Have fun with that one," is the only thing (Y/n) says as she walks through the doors, leaving Ward and Skye in silence.
"Changing course," comes May's voice and (Y/n) stops. "Briefing in three."
"Ah, looks like we're on the move," Fitz says as he, (Y/n), and Jemma retreat up the spiral staircase.
"SHIELD 616 with new orders, set for Colorado Air Field North," May continues.
"A few minutes ago, a SHIELD transport was attacked while carrying a priority red protected asset -"
"Red?" (Y/n) asks in slight disbelief.
Coulson hums in response, "Yep, of Route 76 near Sterling."
"Priority Red?" Jemma echoes and Ward whistles through his teeth.
"The asset was Canadian physicist Dr. Franklin Hall, known for his work -"
"Oh no, not Frank," Jemma says softly.
"Dr. Hall. He was our Chemical Kinetics adviser our second year," Fitz says leaning forward a little.
"Yeah, he's so enthusiastic about science, we just adored him. We can save him, can't we?"
"He's one of ours," (Y/n) says, walking over to stand at Coulson's side. "We're gonna try."
"And the attackers?" Ward asks.
"Invisible," Coulson comments and with a look towards (Y/n), the two start towards Coulson's office.
"Wait, invisible?" Skye questions, sounding amazed, then laughing softly. "Cool."
Ward shoots her a glare.
"But terrible," Skye sounds more dejected now.

The Sky’s Tsunami - Chapter 13
Tumblr media
3rd Person POV
A few hours later, the Bus lands at the Slingshot. By this point, Natasha was back to her normal self, teasing (Y/n).
The two sisters walk down the spiral staircase, Natasha walking over, sitting at the end of hangar doors her back leaning against one of the walls.
"Hey Coulson, how's LOLA?" (Y/n) asks.
"Not a scratch," Coulson answers.
"How she should be," (Y/n) says with a smile.
Skye descends the spiral staircase and walks up behind (Y/n) and Coulson.
"Not a scratch," Skye says, making (Y/n) jump a little. Skye smiles apologetically before continuing. "But you're plane's totaled. I hope SHIELD insurance covers hijackings."
"Of course, under accidentals," (Y/n) says with a grin.
Skye chuckles lightly, crossing her arms. "What exactly am I signing up for?"
(Y/n) laughs, her (E/c) eyes sparkling and Natasha looks back, smiling at her sister.
"So far, the craziest show on Earth," (Y/n) says.
"Yeah, well, I didn't think it'd get this crazy, this fast," Skye reasons, "all for an object you're just gonna destroy."
"Slingshot is protocol," Coulson tells Skye.
"A weapon like the 0-8-4 is too dangerous for any person or country to have," (Y/n) continues. "People like Reyes would always be after it."
"What happened with Reyes, anyway?" Skye asks and (Y/n) raises a ginger eyebrow.
"She's being held at a SHIELD detainment facility," Coulson tells Skye. "I expect the Peruvian government will negotiate for her release. She probably won't spend much time in jail."
"No, I mean what happened with you and Reyes?" Skye asks. "You totally did it back in the day, right?"
(Y/n) chokes back a laugh as Coulson replies, "That's classified."
Skye laughs as Coulson walks away.
"We blew up a plane," Fitz says as he walks down the stairs with a cooler of beer. He holds out the cooler and (Y/n) takes a beer out and goes to sit beside Natasha. (Y/n) hands the beer to her sister and Natasha takes it with a smile.
"Hey, come on," Fitz says, sitting down in the middle of the doors, Simmons taking up a place beside him. "So, it'll take about a hundred and eighty days to reach the Sun. Of course, if they'd used hydrogen-fueled APUs, but they're having fun."
"How man of those have you guys had?" Skye asks as Ward and May sit down on either side of FitzSimmons, taking a beer from the cooler.
Simmons laughs, "Skye, it's important when in the field to unwind from time to time."
"Yeah, yeah, especially after a hard day of everyone almost dying," Fitz pipes up.
"Which doesn't happen every day, right?" Simmons asks and the Romanoff sisters exchange looks. "It''s an anomaly - an irregularity."
(Y/n) and May meet gazes and May smirks at the former assassin.
"Not . . . the norm," Simmons says.
"Speaking of 'not the norm,' whose idea was it to blow a hole in the plane?" Coulson says and (Y/n) glances around before speaking.
"I said that the door -" (Y/n) begins, but Skye interupts her.
"May and (Y/n) said that the doors were tied to the pressurization, so I thought -"
"So we," Simmons emphasizes the word we, "thought it was the only way to release them."
"It was everyone's idea, sir," Ward says and May nods.
"Yes," Fitz adds. "Quite genius, really."
"Nice work," Coulson says and (Y/n)'s eyes sparkle with amusement.
"Fury's not gonna like this," (Y/n) says and Natasha nods. "I can't believe it took us six days to blow a hole in the side of this plane."
"Oh, time for blastoff," Fitz says and everyone looks at the rocket. Fitz pinches his nose, "Launching . . . In three . . . Two . . . One."
The rocket blasts off and (Y/n) leans into her sister and Natasha nudges her affectionately in return.
"The trajectory will take it beyond the Lagrange point so that it doesn't hit Herschel."
"And there haven't been any coronal mass injections, so it shouldn't lose telemetry."
"Guys," Ward tells FitzSimmons. "English."
"Really, Rushman? Really, Coulson?" Fury asks Coulson, (Y/n) standing to the left of the agent. "Six days? It only took you six days to take a completely renovated piece of state-of-the-art machinery and turn it into scrap?!"
"Our team acted with our authority," Coulson says and (Y/n) nods in agreement.
"Don't talk to me about authority," Fury says softly, his voice seething with anger. "Do you know how much this plane cost? It's got a bar." Fury walks over to the said bar, placing his hands on it. "A really nice one. You talking to me about authority. You know, I have the authority to downgrade your asses to a Winnebago."
"We're aware of that, sir," (Y/n) says, meeting Fury's gaze steadily with her own.
"Well, I want it fixed just like you found it," Fury says. "So don't have FitzSimmons going making modifications, like, like a damn fish tank." He turns to (Y/n) now. "Send your sister to me. I know she's here."
(Y/n) nods and jogs downstairs where she finds Natasha and Skye talking.
"Tasha?" (Y/n) says as she steps off the final step.
Natasha looks over and hums in response.
"Big Boss Man wants to see you," (Y/n) says and Natasha nods. She says good-bye to Skye and retreats upstairs. "Oh, FitzSimmons!" (Y/n) says and both scientists stick their heads out the lab doors. "We're gonna have to kill the fish tank."
Fitz pouts and Simmons nods dejectedly.

The Sky’s Tsunami - Chapter 11
Tumblr media
3rd Person POV
(Y/n) groans in pain as she blinks her eyes open. "What happened?" she asks, her eyes fluttering closed again from the pounding in her head and the bruise pulsating around her eye.
"The Peruvian Police attacked us," comes Simmon's voice, and (Y/n) opens her unswollen eye.
"Hmm," (Y/n) hums, looking up at her unconscious sister whose lap her head was laying in. "Nat?" she asks. She lifts herself with a grunt and slides herself against the hanger doors between Skye and her sister. "So, how are we gonna get outta here?" (Y/n) asks.
"This is my fault," Fitz says softly as (Y/n) lets her sister's head rest on her shoulder. "Should have learned Kung Fu."
"Oh, yeah, but I shouldn't have pushed you into the field in the first place," Simmons says softly. "You weren't ready."
"Nobody was the first time," (Y/n) says, glancing at her sister.
Everyone looks over at her as she speaks and (Y/n) sighs heavily. "I didn't grow up in a normal household like some of y'all did," (Y/n) begins. "We," she gestures to Natasha beside her, "grew up in a place called the Red Room." She swallows harshly before continuing. "The girls, including Natasha and I, were taken from their homes, are were put through strenuous daily training, including hand to hand combat training, acrobatics, weapons training, and tactical skills. Occasionally two girls would be chosen to violently spar against each other; weakness wasn't tolerated and the loser is killed by their opponent. It was a relief that Natasha and I weren't separated as kids, because that's what normally would happen. Natasha and I escaped before my Graduation Ceremony, which I don't know what entailed, but Nat would never speak of it."
There was a silence as the four process (Y/n)'s words.
"This wouldn't have happened if May wasn't on the stick," Skye says, changing the subject, noticing (Y/n)'s discomfort. "She would have busted out some of her ninja know-how."
"Agent May?" Fitz asks. "No. No, no. She transferred from Administration.
(Y/n) remains silent, knowing exactly what they were talking about, and what had gone down in Bahrain. It had been her first mission when she had joined SHIELD.
"You've heard of the Cavalry?" Ward asks and (Y/n) flinches at the name.
"I really wouldn't call her that," (Y/n) says softly.
"Yeah."
"Yeah."
"Wh - Everyone at the Academy talks about st -" Fitz begins.
"She's the Cavalry?" FitzSimmons say in unison.
"I told you never to call me that," May says, lifting herself to lean against the doors.
"I can't believe it," Simmons says. "Oh, we're sure to get out of here now. How do we get out of here?" she asks and (Y/n) looks at the scientists.
"Well, we can't go through the doors," (Y/n) begins and May nods.
"They're bolted, tied to the pressurization lines," May continues. "You two geniuses have nothing?" she questions.
"Yeah, well, it's hard to concentrate in these intense situations," Fitz retorts.
"Hey," Ward says, surprisingly gentle. "Don't freeze up. Take a breath you don't need to come up with the whole solution. Just part of it. Right?" Ward leans up to look at Skye.
"Yeah," Skye nods. "Pieces solving a puzzle."
"Can I quote you on that?" (Y/n) asks. "That one's good."
