I don´t know what the mangaka is thinking while writing Suwon´s character. The show is truly turning into “Akatsuki no Suwon”…sigh. So far, it is objectively difficult to side with Yona, because Suwon is the one who is suffering the most, the one who is thinking the most, the one most deserving of the throne. And he is turning the rest of the cast into fools. Especially the ones siding with Il. (heck the readers as well, we can´t compare ><)

I can´t blame them (us), his intelligence is godly :O

Dear Aya,

I may be one of the few people, that shares today this sentiment. Especially after reading chapter 196.

I would not call them all fools…but yeah…Pretty much all the grown-ups, so-called adults acted like fools!

Honestly I don´t understand people assuming Soo Won is cold or even a psychopath. Nope. He isn´t. And the chapter hit that home…

I would rather say, this chapter demonstrated why Soo Won acted the way he does and why he had nearly no other chance than reacting like this.

But from the beginning. Let´s describe the situation…

Yon hi (first mistake)

At first we have Yon hi who is not able to come to terms with the death of her husband.

She is weak, trembling…That is not the mistake…It is clearly a natural reaction.

The mistake comes now…

Yon hi is grateful, that Soo Won wishes to become his father´s replacement.

That means…that Soo Won is clearly surpressing his own feelings due to the pain of his mother.

I repeat….The child - the 9 year old son has to take care of his mother even though he lost his father at a pretty young age.

However, his mother doesn´t understand it. Unfortunately.

The follower of Yu hon and Keishuk

Then we see Soo Won next to the followers of Yu hon, where he states that Keishuk was right. He found the sword wound.

First, it is good, that he did make sure, that his father was indeed murdered. I think he had to see it with his own eyes.

The followers of Yu hon did not believe that King Il was able to kill Yu hon and might have torn Keishuk to shreds…who was as stupid as to run to them and tell them!

So Soo Won might have been motivated by two things:

1. proof if Keishuk told them the truth

2. see the truth for himself.

The more Keishuk spoke…the more agitated did he become…He cried and appeared weak…

The followers of Yu hon would have nearly killed, him, if Soo Won had not calmly explained it. It worked. They stopped threatening him.

Next…The people now are becoming more and more agitated. Their fury is massive…

They are near to become a mob that will instill a civil war…with a massive amount of bloodshed

King Il is threatened to lose his life…

which would result in a power vacuum,

since there is nobody there, who would become king: Soo Won and Yona are both children. Yon hi is ill and Kashi dead or not there.

That means -> a civil war will break out between the different tribes.

That means -> an uncontrollable wave of bloodshed would follow…

However, a tiny bean of 9 years keeps his composure in the midst of fury and is able to calm them down.

Soo Won by the way, even tries to tell them the consequences of his deeds and even is awfully honest here. The country would be thrown in disarray. Soo Won does not understand King Il. Maybe he is right? Soo Won wishes to look into things and is able to communicate that!

The consequences:

1.King Il still lived for about 10 more years (we later learn that Soo Won actually gave him a chance to survive…but more about that in the second post!)

2.There was no civil war with a massive bloodshed.

3. Keishuk´s life was spared. (And yes, I am one of his fans and that is important)

But maybe Soo Won is actually just cold and a psychopath? Let´s look at his real feelings (and the second mistake of his mother).

First, Soo Won surpressed his raging anger…He is unbelievable mad…He hates King Il massively. (It is also implied that he does not even doubt, that his mother would wish for revenge…Soo Won graves revenge…But that is only one part of him)

Yon hi is able to see this side and asks him…if he intends to kill Il?

If you actually consider the whole picture, than Soo Won is facing his mother with his back…while he answers…A clear sign that he tries to hide his real feelings….

And when he considers…really considers the possibility to kill his uncle…he is reluctant…And we are able to see this face….

Soo Won is sad…they are not cold eyes, his head is bowed…This is not a child playing with the thought to kill his uncle, because he thinks he is completely justified and who does not care for Yona…

Soo Won is sad, reluctant…Yon hi only sees the back of her child nearly until the end…Soo Won is pretending and hiding, when he speaks of it - apparently so lightly and coldly.

I do think…that he most likely decided to let that bond go…to sever his feelings for her…at that moment.

Yon hi does not see that her child is massively hurting though

I agree, that he does appear cold…But why can´t Soo Won just cry?

Close your eyes. And tell me…who is there, to control the followers of Yu hon? To prevent a massive bloodshed and the sooner death of King Il?

Yon hi? Too weak…she has to lean on her 9 year old son. Instead of consoling him, she is the one to be taken care of!

Keishuk? Too weak…crying in front of a raging mob that nearly got him killed…

Any other of the followers? Apparently they all wish to take revenge regardless of the consequences for the common people.

My answer:

Nobody than this 9 year old brat…that was forced to take charge of this situation…to fill in for Yu hon

Soo Won´s cold and calm composure was interpreted as being worthy to fill in for Yu hon. If he had cried…they would have merely seen a child. Yona would have been an orphan at age 6, King Il dead, and thousands of people would have died…

Nothing of these events happened…all thanks to the little bean who killed a part of his own personal feelings.

So yes, for me, Soo Won was even more a hero, than when he rescued Yona together with Hak! (Of course, that is merely my perception. But be it!)
