No one alerted Nico of the incident until McGonagall walked into arithmancy looking more tired then usual. "Mr. di Angelo you are required in the hospital wing at once."

Everyone watched him grab his stuff and leave before they started speculating on what was wrong.

Nico listened as McGonagall briefed him on what happened. "This morning while preparing for his first class of the day professor Hagrid found a girl under a heavy tree branch bleeding from the head. When she woke and was told she was here, she asked for you."

"Did she say her name?"

"Thalia Grace. Kindly escort her back to where she came from, before the rest of the student population finds out about this and I get a hundred howlers about the lack of security."

"Sure professor."

Nico stalked into the hospital wing. "Why are you here? How are you here? You're supposed to be in like, Maine or something."

Thalia smiled "nice to see you too. I have a head injury you know, you could be nice to me."

"You could be in Maine like you're supposed to be."

"I am supposed to be here! The centaurs asked us for help with the overabundance of monster. And seeing you're here, I see why they asked."

Nico considered hexing Thalia, Madame Pomfrey was right there. "Come on, I"ll walk you down to the edge of the forest and you can go back to your cult."

Thalia jumped out of bed, grabbing her bow and quiver from where they'd been set against the wall. "Not a cult."

"It literally is. How'd you get hurt?"

Thalia fell into step besides Nico. "I called stepmother dearest a bitch because I tripped on a root. She did not appreciate it."

"Why would you do that."

Thalia waved off Nico's concern. "I didn't break anything this time. Besides, pretty soon there'll be a few dozen babies she can take her anger out on, I'll be old news."

"I pity your siblings."

"So do-" Thalia paused at the staircases. "Why are the fucking stairs moving di Angelo?"

"Oh, yeah, they do that. Come on, it's not dangerous, just looks dangerous." Nico said, grabbing Thalia's arm to drag her down the steps as she grew impossibly pale.

Everything was alright, slowly but surely they made their way down the steps. Until Thalia stepped on a fake step and fell with a scream, taking Nico down with her.

"What the fuck was that?!" Thalia asked when they were both safe on the real steps.

"False steps. Now come on, McGonagall wanted me to get out of here quietly. So let's go, we can take the stairs, I can levitate you down or we can take the short cut."

Thalia laughed, on the edge of hysteria "am I blonde? Do I have a scar from trying to eat a stapler? No? Then don't you dare think about floating me down. No shadow travel. Just tell me where the fake steps are and if I survive, I won't punch you in the face."

"Deal."

They managed to get down the staircase eventually and Nico lead Thalia to the edge of the forest. "Now fuck off and don't come back, you'll ruin my cover. If you haven't already."

She smiled and pulled him into a tight hug. "Don't die."

"You're the one hunting monsters every day. I hang around mortals all day. I'm more a danger to them then they are to me, magic or not. Now get out of here before someone sees you." He pushed her towards the forest.

Solangelo hcs. Hogwarts edition^^

- Nico always thought he'd end up in Slytherin (he thought the colors looked dope). So he got the shock of his life when the sorting hat announced Hufflepuff.

- Yes Will is also a Hufflepuff (I was torn between Hufflepuff Will or Gryffindor Will)

- THEY BOTH ARE HUFFLEPUFF X HUFFLEPUFF and I find that super adorable.

- Nico's attitude does not change whatsoever just because he's in Hufflepuff, he's still brooding and "scary" (at least to the other years he is).

- so correction it's sunny Hufflepuff x moony (see what I did there Remus lovers??) Hufflepuff.

- Wills favorite subject is Charms.

- Nico's favorite subject is Potions.

- They both met on the train in their first year, Nico gave Will a chocolate frog.

- Nico is the seeker for the Hufflepuff team (and he dominates the field)

- Will helps around in the infirmary.

- Nico (despite being the best seeker) gets 'hurt' maybe it's to see a certain blonde Hufflepuff in the infirmary idk..?

- Their first kiss was in the owlery (you thought I was gonna say astronomy tower?!?!? Hahahah no.)

- They both can borrow clothes whenever because they both have the same house colors (if it's too big then it's probably Wills)

- lumos= Will

- nox= Nico

- the whomping willow "tolerates" both Nico and Will.

- Nico uses the map (it was made by Percy) to check on Will sometimes.

- Nico has a cat, Will has an owl.

- When they both tried amortentia :

They both denied smelling anything.

- They both go to the astronomy tower to stare at (each other) the stars.

- when they both casted their patronuses (for practice), both patronuses (cat for Nico, dog for will) instantly became fond of each other.

- they both use the room of requirements to get away.

- YK THE FLYING PAPER CRANE THINGS? Will definitely sent one to Nico IN CLASS.

- Nico sometimes forgets that Will actually really likes Quidditch, so when Will suggest moves Nico could try, he falls in love all over again.

- study dates in the library eueueueu.

- THEY GET TO EAT TOGETHER ALWAYS. perks of being in the same house.

- Will specialized subject is herbology.

- Will would pretend not to know a spell, just so that Nico would hold him and grab his hand to teach him the proper way to cast it.

PJO characters at Hogwarts/ HP

Percy: Gryffindor (I like Hufflepuff too). He's the best at dueling, great with the wand. Really good at Defense against Dark Arts, he likes Care of magical creatures too and have some skills. He's been in trouble multiple times, fight bullies whenever he has to and he's sometimes feared by many Annabeth: Ravenclaw. She knows the library so well, and the castle too (sometimes dragged around by Percy's actions), she's fascinated by the castle since day 1 by the way. She's good at every class, she's in every know class available as her OWL's note were great. She's pretty afraid of the Forbidden Forest, specially by the rumor of acromantulas in there

Grover: Hufflepuff or Gryffindor. He's got a natural talent at Herbology class, and he's pretty good at Care of Magical creatures too. Even tho he likes nature he's afraid of the Forbidden forest. He likes to eat a lot of stuff he finds, thinking that's magical candy (sometimes it is) but he seems to not get sick even if he eats stuff that looks like literal garbage

5. do you respond to comments? - always!!! i love responding to comments! also i can't stand when my inbox has unread messages lol so i try to reply as fast as possible

6. Which of your fics has the angstiest ending? - oh thats tough... maybe no rest for the cursed, where jason is sent to valhalla? or still with you, a tsats rewrite where nico meets jason in tartarus instead of [redacted] and [redacted]. i don't really write angsty endings tho do i.

7. Which of your fics has the happiest ending? - literally no clue. i have so many fluffy ones + ones that never even had plot to begin with lmaooo

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? - i cannot handle posting things that aren't fully finished so thankfully i have no wips!! however i have so many drafts that will never see the light of ao3

16. What are your writing strengths? - i have no clue... i want to say descriptions? when i write i picture things in my head like a movie, so i can see which parts of the scene i want to point out to readers

17. What are your writing weaknesses? - outlining lmao, i cannot outline for the life of me...

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? - I LOVE IT. i don't think i've done it but i really should do a fic where someone speaks french...

First fandom you wrote for? - omg if we're talking first ever time i wrote within an existing universe then it was for the philippa fisher books in 5th grade, i think i wrote some for a school assignment? but if we're referring to first time i wrote fanfic and called it fanfic, then it would be haikyuu i think

The great tragedy of my fanfiction WIPs is the time I started writing a very expansive and elaborate Hogwarts AU of Homestuck and got roughly 15k words in before remembering I really don’t want to be associated with That Fucking Author.

That being said, I spent a stupid amount of time rereading Doc Scatch’s dialogues to write the intro, so I’m excerpting it below. Vindicate my suffering, I beg of you - and weep, all ye who read, for what could have been.

(Except TERFS, who should not bother interacting at all. It will be unpleasant for all involved).

[o]Sorting hat => introduce yourself

I am what you, dear reader, might recognise as the SORTING HAT.

Crisp-white and dapper despite my immense age, I am nonetheless made of an unpleasantly frictive cloth - one might say SCRATCHY, hoo hoo. When it comes to CATEGORISING STUDENTS, I could be considered a professional. My unique talents in LEGILIMENCY and OMNISCIENCE make me an ideal candidate for the role of excavating these children’s minds, rather like a muggle psychiatrist. In fact, if one were feeling gregarious, they might might call me a DOCTOR, hee hee.

I will now explain the joke. My use of ‘DOCTOR’ and ‘SCRATCHY’ closely parallels my appellation in alternate worlds. I am aware of this, although you may not be. It’s hardly your fault, reader; for you are not DOC SCRATCH, and thus lack omniscience.

Continuing onwards. I am a gentleman, although I have a tendency to RATTLE ON. Ho ho. Anyhow, when it comes to my SCHOLASTIC DUTY, I show remarkable talent in observing the ASPECTS of each child I meet, hee hee, although I find myself with significantly less choice than I am accustomed to. A decrease of 33.3%, to be precise.

In the immortal words of one Carl Kinsella, HIVEWARTS largely operates with four categories of children: ‘brave, smart, evil and miscellaneous.’ This is amusing, as the original premise this fiction is based on showed clear faults in its depictions of academia, esteemed reader. I do not endorse this claims, although I will allow myself a genteel chuckle, for I am a courteous hat.

Because of my incomparable knowledge, I have much to say on the fascinating, arbitrary divisions the Wizarding World in these tales suffers. Does the vilification of Slytherin house not show a larger cultural fear of ambition and cunning amongst you? The answer, of course, is yes. In fact, the…

Ah, you’ve put a [read more] bracket in, presumably in despair of my lengthy dissection of the HIVEWARTS houses. This is unnecessary; even as I detailed the minutiae of each category, I was aware of this plan, and so have removed it all from the text. If you doubt me - which I cannot advise - do click that bracket. It will not work, and all you’ve done is create a lengthy aside of little relevance to the average reader, which was, of course, what you sought to prevent.

The limits of your wisdom must be frustrating. From my near-limitless comprehension, I can observe your lack thereof: ignorant to the past, to the present, and to the future. Fear not, for I will dole sweet morsels of knowledge to you like candy from a bowl - but as for the conclusion of this tale? The shifting tide of growth, the tangled webs of friendships, the looming shadow of a familiar foe? Well, reader, you know nothing of that. And I am far too wise to spoil it for you.

For all your naivety, there are certain factoids you are aware of. For example, at this point, you might suggest I should really be singing an introduction to a cluster of just-germinated seeds, rather than elegantly chronicling my own musings. This is foolish of you, although understandable; for I am the HIVEWARTS hat, and multitasking is close amongst my face-up cards. Were you of my calibre, you would already be aware of my song, but you ultimately refused yourself that experience when you truncated my speech above.

Fortunately, I already knew this would happen, and so put very little effort into the song. My talent in that area could be pronounced lacking, which you might attribute to my corporeal vessel of felt. Aha, reader, for you have forgotten - my very essence is fabric and felt, whether I be cue or cap. I am changeless in that regard. And, of all the things I am, a singer is not one of them, although on occasion I will engage in a recreational round of fiddle. Hoo hoo, hee hee!

This, reader, is entertaining due to my status as a ‘devil’ allegory. The Devil is commonly associated with fiddling, although my talent is such that a loss to ‘Johnny’ is incredibly unlikely. Nonexistent, in fact.

In fact is the category I stay firmly planted in, it should be said. To you, who has come expecting epics of fantasy and intrigue - which, fear not, shall unspool deliciously - you may assume that my words are of speculation, or prophecy. This is incorrect. Divination is not, as they say, ‘my bag’; I deal with truth, truth that has yet to unfold - and yet, as I am saying this, it has! Just not for you, reader. You, I’m afraid, will just have to pace yourself.

Stuffing yourself with candy, as we both know, only leads to regret.

Later, you will be - are - returning to these words, intrigued, then suspicious, and then likely with satisfaction. But do not forget, reader, that knowledge is infinite, and you have only ever a finite capacity for it.

Unfortunately, another quantity you have only a dwindling supply of is time. And your allotment for enlightenment is drawing to a close, for now, the sorting begins.

(I also wrote 16 goddamn characters getting sorted with backstories and conversation with Scratch, and established the ancestors/guardians in the universe. Give me my time back, foolish me from a year ago).

Every second of every day he could almost hear his friend’s heart beats. When he was young it’d been Bianca’s and his mother's constantly beating in the very back of his mind. But as he got older, as he gained friends that list grew. Sometimes it shrank, as was the life of a demigod.

Monitoring life was easy, if he wanted, he could reach in and examine one of his friends further, really listen to their heartbeat and see if it was going too slow or fast. It’d come in handy more than a few times when helping Will in the infirmary.

Feeling someone die was like jumping into an ice cold lake. Pulling a rubber band as far as it can stretch, until it breaks, and your finger sings before you can register that it snapped.

For a fraction of a second Nico dies with them. His heart stops, he can't breathe. For a fraction of a second the world stands still.

He still remembered gasping for breath when he felt Bianca dying, he hadn’t known what it meant. He hadn’t known until Percy had come to camp with a grim look on his face and delivered the news.

He'd watched Leo shoot into the sky, heart beating so fast and loud he couldn't ignore it. He couldn't tell when the anxiety from watching it all happen had ended and Leo's death had begun. He hadn't been able to breathe, the world had stood still for what felt like a millennia.

Why did Jason have to die during fucking herbology? Why not late at night when everyone was sleeping or when Nico was tucked away in some corner of the castle away from prying eyes?

No, instead Nico had been grabbing a pot from a shelf to carry over to his spot when he’d felt it.

He stopped, the world didn’t. The pot slipped out of his hands and shattered on the floor. Every plant within a yard of Nico withered and died. The air turned fringed as his mind tried to register that his best friend had just died.

I have to tell Thalia.

Professor Sprout set a hand gently on his shoulder, looking concerned. “Mr. di Angelo, you look a little pale, perhaps you should go to the hospital wing.” She said softly, guiding him towards the door of the greenhouse.

As soon as the door shut behind him everyone began whispering.

The story spread fast.

“It was like a dementor was in the greenhouse! I could see my breath it was so cold!”

“Every plant in the greenhouse died! It’s the most terrifying bit of accidental magic I’ve ever seen!”

But the mist worked faster.

“He dropped a pot and cut his hand so Sprout sent him to Pomfrey.”

“What? No that’s ridiculous, a window was open and there was a cold breeze. Who told you that rubbish about dementors?”

"Sprout told me that some of the plants were sick. They didn't all die. Do you really think that accidental magic of all things could kill an entire greenhouse worth of plants?"
