dear, kennedy ryan

long shot absolutely RUINED me and i need an apology rn. this book was absolutely breathtaking. did i start this series bc one of those tiktok aesthetic vids and bc the fancasts for august and kenan were so fucking fine? I WILL NEVER TELL!!!! but seriously i haven’t felt connected with both main characters in such a long time but august and iris were both such beautifully written characters who had so much depth and charm and it was impossible not to fall head over heels for both of them. the slowburn did not feel dragged out like many other books i have read because this couple and their obstacles felt real; although the journeys they both went through gutted me and i definitely spent way too much crying seeing them suffer i found the anticipation and climax so much more enjoyable because they worked hard to get to be together and the whole romance was vulnerable and genuine.

also TEAM FUCK CALEB 🖕i would gladly pay money to deck that little boy

Plot holes in the lunar chronicles that I’ve noticed on my millionth read through that WILL NOT detract from my enjoyment:

1) Marissa Meyer does not know how freckles work

see Cress having freckles despite zero sun exposure (but ig probably the exact amount of vitamin D she’s supposed to get) aboard the satellite

2) Cinder is wasian/more generally mixed raced and Channary looks so similar to Cinder that Kai sees a portrait of her and thinks for a moment that it is Cinder… but Levana is… white?

I guess the logical conclusion is that levana is also wasian, but I feel as tho that is not the authorial intent bc that is white woman behavior if I’ve ever seen it

the other logical conclusion and the one I personally subscribe to is that Cinder’s father had Asian heritage, but Channary and Levana were white and Cinder just… westernizes/whitewashes herself a little when she uses her glamour…??? Like… to match westernized beauty standards?

idk neither answer is particularly satisfying but I feel as tho the series is thematically stronger if the former lunar queens who want to do colonization, genocide, and imperialism are white women.

3) Dr. Erland should’ve absolutely infected Cinder and Thorne in that tunnel based on the absolutely unhinged and unrealistic but pre-established rules of letamosis

They were in very close quarters for at least an hour as he was entering stage 2 or 3 of the disease. They should’ve all been fucked. (Not to mention how closely Erland interacted with Thorne when they went to the labs)

4)… shouldn’t Dr Erland have had a perfectly good letumosis antidote on him (or at least on the Rampion) yk, from when he stole it from the palace and fled the country???

What happened to that huh? Did we just forget about her?

speaking of interpretations i don't like i hateeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee the idea that lifesteal characters are somehow different people or lose memories between seasons i hate it so bad

#i didn't like it with life series either AGRHGHGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG #m #lifesteal #my blog i get to complain once in a while #i'm just such a hater of anything that requires you to start ignoring the way people actually act/the actual relation of player to game #like zam saying he thinks of it like his characters are separate between seasons is whatever but like. vitalasy for example still Tries #to have conversations with him about s4 in s5. his refusal to engage with those conversations doesn't really make any sense if he's #somehow a zam who did not experience those things ... and it's so much more interesting and doesn't require you to start jumping through #hoops if he does remember and is Choosing not to engage #okay at the end of the day my thing is this: he can think that and act like that if he wants but he can't dictate whether or not anybody #else treats it the same way because the real relationship of player to game is that you Are always the same person and you Did experience #those things so any situation where you try to act like that stuff didn't happen just becomes a character trait rather than a material fact #of the world. okay i'm at peace now i'm not annoyed anymore

The worst part about the Halo TV show is that William C Dietz wrote the best Halo Season 1 outline in 2003 with Halo: The Flood.

The Flood takes the original Halo and adds more pathos, compelling side characters, hints at the greater lore, and good side plots.

No amount of sex scenes will top Captain Keyes slowly losing his memories to an eldritch abomination as he tries to keep the location of Earth hidden from it. Or Private Jenkins having survived the Flood ambush as a half mutated flood abomination barely in control of himself and seeking to be killed no matter what.

All you really need to do is add flashbacks to the Fall of Reach and bam it's perfect.
