haya! i know u’ve casted mutuals as bob characters, i was wondering if u could cast mutuals as the pacific characters (if u havent done it yet)? no presssure btw <3
Ooh yes I love doing these. I’m doing it as the Saturday Night Asks because I’m finally getting time to do them.
So I’m starting with @georgieluz who is 100% Hoosier. He’s definitely hugging the dog during an artillery barrage and honestly if I was stuck in the Pacific his sense of humour would help keep me sane. But he’s also a big softie. But he also reminds me of Ack Ack probably because of how emotionally destraught Julian was after his death but I also feel like Ack Ack is a strong, steady, reliable character and Julian is always there for me so I feel like this fits.
Next @malarkgirlypop is making me lean towards Eugene Sledge because she is such a sweetheart and I love her so much but she could also definitely defend herself and she’s been emotionally scared from our chats (I’m so sorry 😂)
Then @sweetxvanixlla gives me Sidney Phillips vibes. You’re such a loveable, softie and you’re always so supportive.
@merriell-allesandro-shelton how could I cast Louise as anyone other than Snafu (I think she would murder me) I’m not sure whether you share many character traits but you are now Snafu 😂
@panzershrike-pretz why do I feel like you have chaotic Chuckler vibes 😂 Pretz liked to create chaos on the discord group and I feel like Chuckler suits this vibe.
@mads-weasley is making me think of Lena Basilone. I feel like she’s a strong, independent woman but you’re also amazingly supportive and kind. But I also feel like some Leckie vibes come through because she is an amazing writer.
@coco-bean-1218 also gives me Sidney Phillips vibes. You’re such a sweetheart and although we haven’t chatted much I’ve loved all our interactions in the group chat.
@next-autopsy makes me think of Burgin. I’m not sure why but I feel like you’re the mature one in the group chat but you also enjoy the chaos 😂
@whollyjoly also gives me Chuckler vibes from the group chat chaos. The bottom text gang has been an extremely confusing ride 😂
@holdingforgeneralhugs I’m thinking maybe Edward Jones. You’re Ack Acks right hand man. You’re reliable and dependable and you’re Winters in the group chat so you have become our leader. But you also make me think of Ack Ack for this exact reasons so you are both the leader and the right hand man 😂
@liptonwashere as John Basilone. I feel like you’re really reliable but also a lot of fun to talk to. But most important your work is incredible and everyone needs to check out your videos because they give me life (not necessarily related to the character but I couldn’t not mention the video edits)
@samwinchesterslostshoe I feel like you’re a mixture between Runner and Hoosier. You never fail to make me laugh and you have initiated some of the most hilarious conversations 😂
@mutantmanifesto you are so unbelievably talented with your drawings. You’re giving me Leckie vibes.
@bucky32557038ww2 you also give me Lena vibes. There’s just something about you that I feel makes people just want to be your friend. Your so friendly and kind.
@xxluckystrike although we aren’t mutuals I couldn’t not include you. You also give me Burgin vibes. You’re always supportive in the group chat and you fit right in with everyone. I feel like you’re also quite an open and approachable person.
I think I’ve included everyone. Sorry if I’ve missed anyone. This was so much harder than casting my mutuals as Band of Brothers characters. I feel like there are less Pacific characters to pick from 😂

Steve wanted to watch the Hoosier's game against OSU. He knows it's just a college team but it's the best Indiana's got. Except there was one little problem.
Eddie was currently occupying thier TV in their tiny studio apartment, watching reruns of the Golden Girls. From previous experience, Steve knew wrestling the remote away from Eddie when he was watching the Golden Girls was impossible even if he has already watched them all a million times, the new season not out yet. But Steve was not above playing dirty to get what he wants
Steve saunters over to Eddie from where he was standing in their kitchen, beer in hand. He smiles as he walks by, winking. Eddie grabs his wrist gently "Bring me one, baby?"
"Last one, sweetheart. Guess we'll have to share." He looks down, biting his lip before plopping down on Eddie's lap, sitting side ways so his legs are draped over Eddie, Eddie instinctively wraps his arms around Steve's waist. He puts the lip of the bottle to Eddie mouth, giving him a sip.
When he pulls the bottle away, Steve sees his opportunity, nuzzling into Eddie's neck before kissing and sucking on the exposed skin. He can hear Eddie moaning softly. He knows he got Eddie’s attention away from the TV.
"Damn princess," Eddie purrs," If this is sharing a beer, I like sharing."
Steve pulls his head away, angling it so he is looking at Eddie through his eye lashes, lips pink and swollen from his work on Eddie’s neck. "Really, Eds? You like sharing?"
"Absolutely, baby girl." He says rubbing circles on Steve’s hip where his hands meet. His voice is breathy.
Suddenly Steve's demeanor changes, big cocky grin on his face. He leans over and grabs the remote, sliding off Eddie’s lap to sit next to him. "Great. I love sharing to. My turn with the TV." He flips on the football game.
Eddie wants to be mad, but it's kind of hard when the boy of his dreams has just marked him up, and is now sandwiched next to him on the couch. Even if that boy is now shouting at a ref as if he could hear him through the TV.

Strings: Part I
Tumblr media
Title: Strings
Rating: Explicit
Pairing: Les Packer x Fem! Reader
Summary: You and Les had been high school sweethearts. You're going to be a music teacher, he's going to climb the ranks of the SAMDINO MC. The only thing that stands in your way is his mentally unstable brother, Isaac. Things fall apart and fifteen years later, your daughter calls Les for help when you're in a coma and she's trying to figure out how to stay out of foster care. Les is faced with figuring out if you daughter is his or possibly Isaac's. Either way, he can't walk away for a second time from you and your daughter.
She looks like you, that’s the first thing that strikes Les.
Her posture, straight and tense, the waves of hair falling over her shoulders, the serious set of her mouth. It isn’t until he enters the small diner and approaches the table that he realizes her nose and eyes are not like yours at all.
They’re a Packer’s.
The eye color is a mix, blue and green, like an unsettled sea. But the shape is most definitely Packer.
“Zoey, I presume?” As if she could be anyone else.
She nods once, those eerie eyes studying his face. “Mr. Packer.”
He hears one of his guys snort from a couple booths over. Hoosier from the sound of it. He wasn’t sure if this was a set up or not so back up was a must. Now, he’s regretting that decision. With a heavy sigh, he slips into the booth across from her. He doesn’t know if she knows anything about him, or Isaac. What you told her about her father. He doesn’t have enough information going into this meeting so he does what he always does in these situations: get the other person to talk.
“Alright, say what you have to say.”
She reaches under the table and pulls out a stack of slightly yellowed envelopes, all tied neatly together with a fraying blue ribbon. “My mom told me where to find these letters, in case anything happened to her.” She pushes them with shaking hands across the scratched formica towards him. “There’s not too many Les Packers in California. I just assumed…”
He recognizes the ribbon, remembers when he gave it to you, and fights the urge to reach out and touch it. He had used it to tie the stems of wildflowers together in a poor excuse of a bouquet when he had asked you out to some music in the park festival in Redlands. The next day, after the wildflowers had been arranged in a canning jar with water, you used the ribbon to tie your hair back away from your face while you played the guitar on a dilapidated back porch. He can still remember what the curve of your cheek felt like under his fingers, soft as the satin of the ribbon.
He clears his throat. “So something has happened to your mother?”
Zoey nods. “Yeah.”
“Is she…” even after sixteen years of distance, he still can’t bring himself to finish the sentence.
“No, but it’s bad. She’s in a coma.”
“For how long?”
“Six days today.” Zoey folds her hands in front of her and Les sees the ring on her middle finger. A small sterling silver band with a teardrop piece of turquoise.
“Your mama give you that ring?”
“No,” she turns it around her finger nervously. “I found it with the letters. In a safety deposit box. Do you want it-”
It’s a cheap thing he bought from a street vendor in San Diego. You had loved it, the colored veins in the blue rock. You had called it a piece of art and he handed over a twenty dollar bill for the treasure. He shakes his head. “Nah. Tell me what happened to your mom.”
“She was in an accident. On her motorcycle. She was coming back from a music recital at the middle school when a drunk driver clipped her. The police said she skidded across the road and h…h…hit a tree.”
That’s a nasty type of accident and it sounds like a miracle that you’re just in a coma and not dead. “Do you think that’s what really happened?”
Zoey’s entire face clouds over, tears gathering quickly in her eyes. “Yeah. The police arrested the guy.”
“So what am I here for?”
She pulls out another envelope, thick and wrinkled. “Here. It’s not a lot, about $560 but it’s all I have.”
He glances in the envelope and finds mostly $10s and $5s. “Where did you get this money?”
She fiddles with the fraying end of a braided bracelet around her wrist. “I’ve always saved up money. It’s just my mom and me. Some months are harder to pay the bills than others so I save up what I can to help when that happens.”
Les closes the envelope and sets it down on the table between them. It pains him to no end to hear that you’ve had to struggle financially because of him. Because of Isaac. And what little bit he had tried to do for you, to help ease that burden, wasn’t enough. “How old are you?”
“Fifteen.”
He nods in understanding. “CPS is starting to snoop around.”
Zoey uses a shaky hand to wipe away her tears. “Yeah. They’re talking about putting me in a foster home. I overheard the lady tell the doctor that they need to get me in placement as soon as possible for when my mom…” She chokes down a sob. “My best friend in school is in a foster home. She says it’s terrible. She sleeps on the floor, has to take care of the younger kids and work a part time job. And the father…”
God, what is wrong with the world? Like he needed that confirmation to make his decision. He slides the money back over to her, along with the letters. Her face falls, thinking he’s going to say no. He’s failed in protecting you and your daughter. He’s not about to let that mistake continue. He’s stayed on the sidelines for far too long.
“What hospital is your mama in?”

My Moments Out Of Time In Film 2023
Tumblr media
My Moments Out Of Time - Glenn Gaylord’s Look Back at 2023 In Film
I’m of the opinion that every year can be a really good year for movies if you’re willing and able to do a little digging. But transcendent, formula-defying, unforgettable work seems to come along much less frequently. In 2023, I repeatedly saw a rare level of greatness, almost a rewriting of cinematic language. I think of how the marriage of sound and imagery achieved a type of singularity in The Zone Of Interest, or how the camera’s omniscient point of view in Poor Things seemed to reflect the mind of its protagonist. All Of Us Strangers and Past Lives seemed to run on pure emotional poetry. Bottoms and Rotting In The Sun opened up a new type of comedy in which queer people unleashed powerful levels of fury and unapologetic lust. Origin ignored most rules of screenwriting structure to forge a compelling and new way of looking at societal systems. Although not quite as trailblazing as the above-mentioned titles, I also loved The Holdovers, Are You There, God? It’s Me Margaret, May December, Killers Of The Flower Moon, Oppenheimer, BlackBerry, Air, M3Gan, You Hurt My Feelings, Passages, Huesera: The Bone Woman, Anatomy Of A Fall, Saltburn, Dream Scenario, Ferrari, Rustin, The Color Purple, Fallen Leaves, Godzilla Minus One, The Teacher’s Lounge, Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One, and Wonka. Now that’s just scratching the surface. It was that kind of year.
So, instead of compiling a Top Ten List, which from what you can see above, would prove nearly impossible, I like to pay homage to a long-discontinued but influential annual column called “Moments Out Of Time” from Film Comment magazine. Their critics would cite their favorite scenes, images, or lines of dialogue, even from films they may not have liked. I may have hated the sappy, Hoosiers wanna-be, The Boys In The Boat, for example, but the image of the coxswains sporting those cone-shaped bullhorns strapped to their mouths made an impression. So, here, in no particular order, are my Moments Out Of Time for 2023.
A father looks over his brood as they splash around in their backyard pool. We see the billowing smoke from an approaching train as it crosses the horizon. That the father is a Nazi commandant and the train is arriving at Auschwitz makes turns a seemingly innocuous image and makes it bone-chilling - The Zone Of Interest
“Owwwwww” a perfectly droll and hilariously delivered reaction from Duncan Wedderburn (Mark Ruffalo) - Poor Things
A father (Jamie Bell) tells his grown son (Andrew Scott) that he wishes he could have been more attentive and supportive of him when he had been bullied as a child. The emotional truth on the faces of these two exceptional actors left me sobbing. It’s a dream conversation for so many - All Of Us Strangers
Two students toss a football in the wintry commons of a Massachusetts Prep School as the folk strains of “Silver Joy” by Damien Jurado plays on the soundtrack. It not only perfectly evokes films from the time such as Hal Ashby’s Harold And Maude, but feels like it was actually made in 1970 as well - The Holdovers
A high school principal uses the intercom to blare, “Could the ugly, untalented gays please report to the principal's office?”, which serves to announce a film which, dare I say, takes Heathers, upends it, slathers on layer upon layer of lesbian horniness, to result in something truly subversive and unique - Bottoms
Two South Korean childhood sweethearts reunite in Manhattan decades later, and Nora’s (Greta Lee) incredulous reaction of “Wow” as she walks beside Hae Sung (Teo Yoo) sums up the immense warmth of this gloriously poetic film - Past Lives
That insane twist midway through had me whispering to myself, “Holy Janet Leigh!” - Rotting In The Sun
Speaking of twists, the year’s biggest WTF moment happens towards the end of this film. You’ll know it when you see it as this girl crush of a story turns into something unexpectedly sinister - Eileen
A woman explains to an author why her father named her Miss. The monologue, filled with equal parts pride, anger and despair, and delivered by a never better Audra McDonald, should be studied by actors for decades - Origin
The slow-moving grocery store conveyor belt as it carries sanitary napkins for our protagonist and her friend proves to be a beautifully sustained, hilariously awkward coming of age moment - Are You There, God? It’s Me Margaret
A mom takes her teenage daughter dress shopping and traumatizes her with the cringiest, most passive-aggressive speech of 2023, “Oh Mary, I want to commend you for being so brave and showing your arms like that. That’s something I always wished I could do when I was your age. Just not care about these unrealistic beauty standards.” - May December
Godzilla’s attack on Ginza, which had a similar visceral impact on me as Spielberg’s War Of The Worlds first set piece did - Godzilla Minus One
After the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Oppenheimer gets a hero’s welcome by a roomful of cheering, stomping Americans. As their faces melt away, he sees the horrific devastation he has wrought and questions his own “heroism” - Oppenheimer
An Osage woman in 1920s Oklahoma, who truly loves her husband, knows she has to bite her tongue despite knowing he’s slowly poisoning her. The conflicting emotions on the wonderful Lily Gladstone’s face masterfully conveys her impossible situation - Killers Of The Flower Moon
The flashback which reveals Valeria (the incredible Natalia Solián) isn’t the happily pregnant, maternal, heterosexual, married woman as initially presented. It’s the moment this somewhat traditional Rosemary’s Baby homage transitions into something far more radical - Huesera: The Bone Woman
Flora (Eve Hewson) and Jeff (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) write the beautiful duet “Meet In The Middle” over Zoom, cementing their chemistry and more importantly their deeply emotional connection to music - Flora And Son
In one of my favorite transitions in cinematic history, a Nazi commandant looks down a dark hallway to see his future, a soberingly mundane yet impactful vision. We then cut back to the commandant as he descends into the dark hell of his own making - The Zone Of Interest
Canadian Jim Balsillie (Glenn Howerton in one of the best, most surprising, and scariest performances of the year) threatens the NHL board when things don’t go his way with the immortal, “I’m from Waterloo, where the vampires hang out!” - BlackBerry
A woman accused of stealing from a teacher angrily denies culpability with a series of lies. This tense tiny gem is an astute analogy for the alternative facts age we’re experiencing - The Teacher’s Lounge
“A shoe is just a shoe until my son steps into it” - Michael Jordan’s mother Deloris (Viola Davis) skillfully negotiates his Nike contract with Matt Damon’s Sonny Vaccaro, and with quiet assurance gets everything Michael deserves - Air
Entity: Put the knife in your eye - Skinamarink
The office hallway dance before the kill - M3Gan
A novelist (Julia Louis-Dreyfus) overhears her husband (Tobias Menzies) denigrating her latest work, which challenges her notions of honesty and whether it’s something she really needs or not. A great microcosm of the human condition - You Hurt My Feelings
A blisteringly narcissistic film director (Franz Rogowski), fresh out of relationship with another man, refuses to engage in a conversation with his pregnant girlfriend’s parents as they pry too much and question his motives. Bonus points for his choice of outfits during said conversation - Passages
Danielle Brooks’ Sofia mightily kicks a door in at the start of “Hell No”, cementing her legendary status in film history - The Color Purple
Pop music of the 1960s gets a lovely tribute as the strains of “A World Of Your Own” evoke The Monkees’ “Daydream Believer” with a little nod to Sgt. Pepper era Beatles. The psychedelic visuals of Willy Wonka’s shop, with its cotton candy clouds and chocolate river, only enhance the magic - Wonka
Sure, one could easily talk about the slurping of the bathtub water or the graveyard sex or the naked dance sequence, but none felt as urgent and squeamish as when Felix (Jacob Elordi) surprises Oliver (Barry Keoghan) by driving him to his parent’s house. Oliver, begging Felix not to do so and afraid of what’s to come, is the most raw, real moment in a film laden with performative interactions and deception - Saltburn
“I wish this was real” - the most heartbreaking final line of a film this year - Dream Scenario
That entire taped argument! - Anatomy Of A Fall
Bonnie (Jodie Foster) uses reverse psychology on Diana (Annette Bening) to convince her to swim from Cuba to Florida, slyly revealing the advantages of really knowing and caring about your best friend - Nyad
Barbie: You’re beautiful. The Woman On The Bench (played by legendary Costume Designer, Ann Roth): I know. - Barbie
A deadpan couple in a movie theater watch Jim Jarmusch’s The Dead Don’t Die, a cheeky homage to what clearly has influenced the fantastic filmmaker Aki Kaurismäki - Fallen Leaves
Before the March On Washington, history was really made when Bayard Rustin (a great Colman Domingo) proved himself indispensable by demonstrating every detail that went into the planning - Rustin
Rebecca-Diane: (to a roomful of tween actors) But you so deserve it on every level, you guys are so talented, so unbelievable, this will break you. This will fully destroy you - Theater Camp
Any scene in which a couple engages in a serious discussion as a Macy’s Thanksgiving Day float glides by their window is gonna make this list - Maestro
THE SCENE - you’ll know it when you see it and will never forget it - Ferrari
The motorcycle over the cliff stunt. When Tom Cruise says he’ll die for us, believe him - Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One
Tilda Swinton meets her match in Michael Fassbender and has that haunting moment of realization that she’s not as clever as she thought she was - The Killer
The unnerving sight of hundreds of planes plummeting to the ground - Knock At The Cabin
Put Margo Martingale as Ranger Liz, with her delightfully terrible aim, on a gurney in an ambulance being chased by a bear high on cocaine, add Depeche Mode’s 80s synth classic “Just Can’t Get Enough” and you have my favorite chase sequence since To Live And Die In L.A. or maybe even The French Connection - Cocaine Bear
Remind me never to crawl across a ladder precariously propped up between two apartment buildings. I can feel the acrophobia kicking in as I type this - Scream VI
If you’ve ever experienced a maintenance request being ignored, just be grateful Hong Chau’s self-involved Jo isn’t your landlord. Every time she shrugged off Michelle Williams’ pleas, I wanted to call HUD myself - Showing Up
Maybe you’re just inviting trouble when you prop your apartment building door open with a rolled up newspaper and quickly run across the street to buy some water - Beau Is Afraid
Although I found the overall movie to be “cute” at best, the combination of Awkwafina and the word “Scuttlebutt” was comedy gold - The Little Mermaid
It broke my heart when one of television’s most beloved icons thought of herself as “a failed dancer” instead of as a successful actor - Being Mary Tyler Moore
It’s impossible to measure the courage it took for Michael J. Fox to repeatedly fall down (and get back up) on camera while working with a trainer. He risked humiliation to bring the plight of those living with Parkinson’s disease straight to our hearts and minds - Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie
Presented at first as quiet, shivering victims of sexual assault, five women kidnapped by Nazis get their slow motion stroll towards camera with rifles in hand and death glares on their faces - Sisu
Although I had long ago written him off as someone whose politics don’t align with my own, I couldn’t help but be moved by Jon Voight’s tear-filled pride in having made a queer cinematic classic - Desperate Souls, Dark City And The Legend Of Midnight Cowboy
Priscilla (Cailee Spaeny) paces alone in Graceland as she realizes the bloom is off the rose. Her marriage, as it turns out, will consist of waiting and obeying - Priscilla
Jennifer Lawrence kicking ass while fully naked on a beach, proving herself as adept at broad comedy as Rebekah Kochan’s Tiffani in the Eating Out series - No Hard Feelings
Meghan Thee Stallion as a sensational girl boss lights up the screen when she performs “Out Alpha The Alpha” - Dicks: The Musical
Bella Baxter: I must go punch that baby - Poor Things
No melodic score will surpass the genius of Mica Levi’s compositions combined with Johnnie Burn’s sound design - The Zone Of Interest
In the final shot, the camera cranes up to reveal Indiana Jones having literally hung up his hat. Why am I crying? - Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny
When Gracie loses a client from her cake business, Julianne Moore’s meltdown surpasses her amazing scene in Magnolia when she screams at the pharmacist - May December
Two book publishers (astutely embodied by Miriam Shor and Michael Cyril Creighton) envision their mysterious Black author played by Jeffrey Wright in a “do-rag and a tank top with the muscles showing”, proving stereotypes don’t die easily. When Shor caps the discussion with “Somebody call the fire department” you know you’re in the hands of a great satirist - American Fiction
Combine exploding wine barrels as two cowboys get drenched and make out as a group of women look on with disappointment, and you have a brief return to campy, over-the-top form from Pedro Almodóvar - Strange Way Of Life
Teddy Kountze: Sir, I don’t understand. Paul Hunham: That’s glaringly apparent. Teddy Kountze: No. I can’t fail this class. Paul Hunham: Oh, don’t sell yourself short, Mr. Kountze. I truly believe that you can. -The Holdovers

song lyrics // whump inspo
❝ don’t you fight back, this’ll hurt less if you just submit. ❞
❝ i can show you pain and make you say my name. ❞
❝ you’re in a place for fear. ❞
❝ you’re a deviant just like me. ❞
❝ bruises and bitemarks seem to really spell your name. ❞
❝ i wanna erase every nasty thought that bugs me every day of every week. ❞
❝ i wanna wipe out all the sad ideas that come to me when i am holding you. ❞
❝ one minute i’m a little sweetheart and next minute you are an absolute creep. ❞
❝ don’t you miss me when i’m gone ‘cause you’re the fucking reason that i’m not around. ❞
❝ they are after me. ❞
❝ they don’t even know who i am. ❞
❝ i’m just a fucking pet. ❞
❝ nothing’s good about the hell you put me through. ❞
❝ you can run but you can’t hide, i’m gonna make you mine. ❞
❝ and i replay it into my head, the sight of you dead. ❞
❝ the awful things you’ve done created a monster that i’ve become. ❞
❝ you’re flesh and blood, but what’s underneath? ❞
❝ don’t fret precious, i’m here. ❞
❝ yeah i did it, but i’ll say you made me. ❞
❝ i won’t ever feel what you’re feeling, the damage is already done. ❞

__________
"Oh, honey," your friend giggled. "So is this your way of telling me you're expecting?"
"Expecting what? I'm genuinely concerned for my health!"
She shook her head, patting your hand. "Don't tell me you didn't suspect a pregnancy. You have all the classic symptoms: morning sickness, missing... you know what. I can't believe you hadn't pieced it together yourself by now."
You sat back in your chair, taking in the information. You were stunned to say the least. "What'll I tell Lewis?"
"Don’t worry about it. He'll be happy."
"Oh, are you sure? What if he's not ready?" Your anxiety was making your stomach turn.
"He can get over it," she rolled her eyes. "Clearly, one of you had to have realized it was a possibility at this point. You've been married how long now?"
"Nearly 6 months."
"Exactly." She sipped her lemonade like that had explained it all.
“Exactly what?”
She gave you a pointed look. “Do I need to explain how babies are made?”
__________
You paced around the house, words filling your head but none of them feeling right. You had to tell your husband in a good way. It couldn’t be super sudden, but you also didn’t want to beat around the bush. Before you knew it, the sun had set, meaning Lewis would be home soon.
“I’m home!” he announced, knowing fully that you could hear the door open and close from just about anywhere in the small house.
“In the kitchen!” you called back, never looking away from the recipe you were following. It was a more complex version of some comfort food Lewis had mentioned before. You hoped good food might make your announcement a little easier.
Upon finding you, a contagious smile broke out across his face, and he hugged you from behind, as to not keep you from what you were doing. “Hi. I missed you.”
His breath warmed your shoulder, and you smiled to yourself at his tenderness. “I missed you too. How was work?”
“Work was work,” he groaned. “Boring could describe it, but that’s still too generous.”
You shook your head, amused by his dramatic comment. “That bad, huh?”
He shrugged before letting go of you and leaning against the counter. “I guess not, but anything without you is insufferable.”
“Maybe I should work at the plant then.”
“You were supposed to suggest I quit,” he sighed. “Forcing me to respond with why I can’t and why that would be bad for our futures and for our children.”
You tried not to react too much to his last words. “Children?”
“Well, yeah. I assume we might have a couple.” He looked at you earnestly. “If you wanted to. Do you not want kids?”
“I think I do,” you quickly cleared up. “I just wasn’t sure where you stood.”
“I stand wherever you are.”
“How absolutely-“
“Romantic?”
“Cheesy is the word I was going to use.”
Dinner came and went—successfully, you might add, and you were still trying to find a way to tell him your news. You were kicking yourself for not saying anything when the topic was brought up. Now, you were both getting ready for bed.
As you brushed your teeth, he came in behind you to do the same. The comfortable routine normally set you at ease, but with the unintentional secret you were carrying, everything felt off. You ran through what to say again and again as you spit out the toothpaste and rinsed off the toothbrush.
You sat up in the bed, and he seemed to notice you didn’t look exactly ready to sleep.
“Something the matter?” He crawled in next to you. “Normally you’re halfway to dreamland by the time I get to bed.”
“Just thinking.” You slid down until your head was on your pillow.
He frowned a little and cocked an eyebrow. “Care to share?”
“Maybe.”
“Ah, okay then,” he yawned. Maybe you’ll feel like sharing tomorrow.” He pulled the covers up to his shoulders and closed his eyes. “Goodnight, sweetheart.”
“Goodnight.” Just before he had completely drifted off, you kissed his temple and whispered a quiet confession. “I’m pregnant.”
He mumbled incoherently and stilled.
When you were sure he was asleep, you rested peacefully knowing you had told him. Whether he had heard you or not was an issue for the morning.
__________
You woke up slowly, but you quickly noticed that you weren’t alone in the bed. Fighting the urge to shut them again, your eyes opened to see Lewis sitting up. “What-“ you yawned as you raised yourself up. “What are you doing up?” You blearily checked the clock on your nightstand. “It’s not even 1 in the morning.”
“I had a strange dream, Y/N.” He seemed to be reminding himself what it was before he continued. “In my dream, I heard you say you were pregnant, but that’s it. That’s all I remember.”
This woke you up a little more, and you sat up next to him. “I am pregnant.”
“What?”
“Lewis, we’re going to have a baby.”
He stared at you, mouth agape for a small eternity before pulling you into him. “Oh my God. You’re pregnant? When d’you tell me? Did you tell me? Oh well, you must have.”
“I may have whispered it to you as you fell asleep,” you admitted. “But I couldn’t figure out a good way to tell you.”
“I can’t believe my brain retained that.”
You eased yourself away from him, seeing the huge grin he had. “I can’t believe it woke you up this early. Can we squeeze in a couple more hours b-“
“We need to prepare. What are naming him? Or her? Shit, what if we have a girl? I don’t know anything about raising girls.”
“Good thing I know a couple.”
“What kind of things do we need to buy? A crib, toys, diapers, clothes. Oh, and the doctor’s appointments! You’re going to need a good doctor. I mean, I think I remember the name of the one we went to for Michael.”
“Lew, honey? Hey,” you put your hand on his cheek to catch his attention. “Hey, there. Calm down. We can figure this out later. We’ve got plenty of time. Let’s sleep, okay?”
He shook his head in agreement and followed you back down to the pillows. “I can’t wait,” he whispered, kissing your nose and closing his eyes to go to sleep for the second time that night.

————————————
The heavy wooden door closed behind (Y/N), a shiver running through her body as the warmth from the house enveloped her. She took her shoes off as she glanced towards the clock on the wall in the hallway- a little past 6. With a shiver, she took her coat off, brushing the snow off of it before shoving it into the closet.
It was early December, but it felt like it had been years since everything had been normal. Japan had bombed Pearl Harbor days earlier, and it seemed like the country had completely shifted. All of the men (Y/N) had grown up with and worked with were leaving to fight in another country.
“Bill?” She called out as she unwrapped the scarf from around her neck. She had seen his car in the driveway, but hadn’t heard him.
“In the kitchen.” He called back, poking his head through the doorframe so that she would see him. With a smile she walked towards him, the smell of her favorite meal immediately enveloping her. She pressed a quick kiss to his cheek, catching a glimpse of a vase filled with red roses on the table.
“What's all of this?” She asked as she motioned to the stove and then to the flowers, worried she had forgotten an important date. She watched as he dried his hands on a rag and leaned against the counter, his body facing hers.
“Can’t do something nice for my girl?” Her eyebrows furrowed at his answer.
“You just never do something like this unless it's my birthday or our anniversary.” She retorted wearily, moving to help him set the table as he grabbed plates and silverware. He pulled out her chair and motioned for her to sit before going back to the stove to grab the pot.
“Let me do everything, sweetheart.” Bill mumbled as he scooped the meal onto her plate before moving to load his own plate up. “How was your day?” He asked as he took the seat across from her after putting the pot back on the stove.
(Y/N) let out a sigh as she took the fork in her hand. “Beyond stressful.” She mumbled before taking a bite of the food. Once she swallowed, she spoke again. “Dale left, so they’re adding some of his work onto my workload- I don’t know how I’m supposed to keep up.”
Bill nodded along, having sensed her stress as soon as she walked through the door. “Dale left?”
“Air Force. Left last night I guess.” She shook her head before speaking again. “I can’t believe all of these boys are just...enlisting. It’s so dangerous.” She trailed off, not noticing how quiet Bill had become as they finished the rest of their dinner in silence.
“I’ll do the dishes since you made dinner.” She offered as she grabbed his empty plate from the table and walked over to the sink. He stayed back by the table, half sitting on it as he watched her.
“I did want to talk to you about something, though.” He said softly, only continuing when she threw a glance back at him over her shoulder, urging him to continue. “I don’t want you to be upset.”
(Y/N) turned off the water and faced him, catching the seriousness in his tone. She grabbed a rag to dry her hands as she stared at him. “What is it?” She asked as her eyebrows furrowed.
Bill took a deep breath, his eyes still on hers as he tried to deliver the news as soon as possible. “I enlisted in the Marines yesterday. I ship out at the end of this week.” Silence fell over the room as he stared at her blank face, desperate to figure out what she was thinking.
“No.” (Y/N) finally said as if it was the most simple thing. She tossed the rag on the counter before turning back around to put away the clean dishes.
“No? What do you mean no?”
“You aren't going.” She answered, her tone still light as she tried to push the heaviness of the situation away. Her hands shook as she pushed a plate into the cabinet.
He let out a frustrated chuckle before trying to calm down. He didn’t want to fight with her when their days together were numbered. “Sweetheart, it's not that simple and you know it.” He said softly, hoping she was feeling the same way about fighting as he was.
“You aren't going to god knows where to be killed for a country that-” She stopped, forcing herself to take a deep breath, her hands gripping the counter. “If you cared about me, you wouldn't do this.” She said slowly, hoping her words would deter him, even though she knew it wasn’t likely.
“Can you at least look at me?” He begged, feeling his chest tighten at her words. She turned to face him, her eyes brimming with tears. “You know how much I love and care about you, but I have to go. I don’t expect you to understand, it’s just something I need to do.”
She shook her head and quickly wiped a stray tear that slid down her cheek. “If you go, we’re done.” She said desperately, hoping that what she was saying would change his mind.
“Don’t do that.” Bill pleaded, feeling tears brim his own eyes. “You know what the answer will be.”
She let out a huff as she looked away, struggling to hold her tears back as she shook her head. “Be careful over there, Bill, wherever you get shipped off to.” She watched him cover his face with his hands. “I’ll always appreciate everything you’ve done for me.”
(Y/N) walked towards him, pulling his shaking body into one last tight hug before walking back to the door and pulling on her shoes and gloves. He watched from the kitchen, finding it hard to believe that earlier she was calling out to him as he made her dinner.
“Don’t do this, (Y/N), please.” He called out, but she was already gone.

"Lew, we can't just sneak on the roof of some strangers' apartments!" You whispered urgently, waving your hands around for emphasis of your words. Watery blue eyes stared at you and you felt your resolution weakening as warm and calloused hand covered yours and tugged them lightly towards him like a child who just saw his dream toy in a shop.
"C'mon [Y/N], it'll be fun! Besides, today's a special day, isn't it?" Right. And who could resist your boyfriend's puppy eyes? Definitely not you. However, you couldn't resist teasing him a little and started looking around you, frowning slightly as if you were in deep reflection.
The both of you were in a lost corner of Melbourne, -how Lew found it, you didn't dare to ask- in front of an outside steel staircase you knew brought to the roof. The only light was coming from a floor lamp nearby and the white and cold light of the moon, and the only sounds were the ones you were making and a crowded bar a few blocks away.
Lew's thumb stroked your hand gently and you couldn't think about anything other than that. These hands that have held a gun so tightly, pulled a trigger to kill, were touching you with such tenderness and love, as if you were the most precious thing in the world. Your throat felt dry and your stomach was in knots only Lew could make you feel, all noises had been drowned by the buzzing in your head as you realized just how much you loved him. Giving his hand a gentle squeeze, you smiled and nodded, watching as Lew's own smile broadened, almost blinding you.
"Okay, Lew, let's do it. But if someone comes up and bear our asses, the blame's on you." You finally said with a grin.
"You won't regret it, sweetheart, I promise." Your boyfriend swore as he had already started to climb the stairs, his hand never letting yours go, and the bag he was carrying on his bag jolting a little with every step he was making.
Every few seconds, he looked back down at you, clear eyes shining with love and his smile in full display. He could win over the world with this smile., you shamelessly found yourself thinking. It was crazy to think that just a few weeks ago, you all were on a god forsaken island, fighting for your lives and now you were running up steel stairs, feeling like a teenager with your first crush.
"We're there." Lew announced at the same time wind rose. The breeze caressed your face softly in a relaxing way and you couldn't help but to close your eyes to focus on that unique feeling. On your right side, you could ear Lew shuffling with what contained his bag, the ruffle of a fabric being undone and what seemed to be something made of glass given the sound it made when Lew's bracelet touched it. You furrowed your brows, but trusting Lew more than enough to choose to keep your eyes closed.
You let out a breath, and the screeching of shoes against the dusty ground and pieces of stones warned you before a pair of arm sneaked around your waist, bringing you closer until your back was pressed against Lew's clothed chest. Your eyes now open, you stared in awe at the view. From your standing position, you could see beyond the low wall, and the few lights of the city had their reflect on the ocean's water, the moon shining over you.
"No roof has a better view here."
"Did you climb on every Melbourne's roof just to see what view they could offer?" You snickered as he fully laughed behind you.
"I'm not crazy enough to do it, sweetheart, though you'd deserve it." You raised an eyebrow but you weren't sure if he saw it so you nudged his side.
"C'mon big guy, don't leave me hanging there." You protested, deliberately not mentioning his last words.
"I hired Runner and Hoos." Lew shrugged nonchalantly as if making Hoosier get out of bed to walk up hundreds of stairs was an easy thing to do. Then you remembered your boyfriend's puppy eyes, to which you had fallen victim again, only minutes ago. Puppy eyes were a mortal weapon. It should be forbidden., you decided.
"Should we go sit?" You asked after a moment of quiet and felt him nod then kiss the side of your head before taking your hand in his and walking to the blanket he placed in the middle of the roof.
You sat down next to him, wincing a little bit as rocks sank onto your bottom and thighs, and after some shifting around for a moment, you finally settled for crossing your legs at your ankles. Army blankets were thin after all, you learned as everyone else while shivering in the cold of the night. Though as of right now, you were surrounded by warmth, your body and Lew's pressed together from shoulders to foot, your intertwined fingers resting on your lap.
"I brought this." His deep voice broke the silence as he took from grey bag a familiar glass bottle, soon enough wiggling it so close to your face you couldn't read the tag.
"You want to know what it is, right? You want to known don't ya, sweetheart?" His smug face suddenly appeared in front of you, blocking the moon for a second, just the time to steal a quick peck on your lips then going back to his previous position, bottle no longer in his hand but now on your lap. You took it with care, feeling the cold glass on your fingers, passing your thumb on the tag and bit your lower lip to refrain from smiling too wide upon reading the year.
"Really, Lew? The year of my birth?" Your tone would have sounded sarcastic to everyone but the two of you. Maybe that's why you loved him so much. He could read through every jokes, every sarcastic remarks and roll of the eyes, knowing exactly how you felt in the depths of your heart. You didn't take away your eyes from the bottle but you saw him shrug from the corner of your eye.
"Oh? Ahh lucky! I didn't even notice!" Snorting, you chose not to say anything. You knew what he was doing, brushing it off like that. For people back home, a bottle wine with a wanted year was easy and definitely wasn't considered fancy. But for you, for anyone in the army, in deployment even if it didn't feel like it, it was as precious as if Lew just handed you the Moon.
"How? How much did it cost you?" You whispered in awe, finally looking at him with diamonds in your eyes.
"It's a gift, sweetie, I'm ain't gonna tell you." He smiled again, and you only sighed, expecting this answer anyway.
"Thank you." You kissed his cheek quickly but the broadening of his smile told you he understood your feelings.
"Then are we going to drink or not?" He joked, distracting you from your embarrassment, and oh how much you loved him.
"Of course we are!" You exclaimed, as he chuckled and gave you a knife to open your well deserved gift.
When the cap popped out with a satisfying sound, you licked your lips but offered it to your boyfriend first, who shook his head with a smile, eyes amused. What a gentleman., you silently huffed before raising the bottle into the air :
"Cheers." You took the first sip of the red liquid, feeling it going down your throat and into your stomach, closing your eyes again. It was delicious, you had to admit it, a little aftertaste you couldn't quite describe nor place but it wasn't unpleasing. Lew took the wine bottle you gave him as you wiped your mouth with a hand and stared at the midnight sky.
"Happy birthday to you." He wished you before drinking himself. If your lips weren't already stretched from smiling, you were sure you'd have smiled wider but alas, human corpses had their limits so you simply reached out and squeezed his hand, letting him intertwine your fingers again.
"I know we're in a big city but I wouldn't have minded one or two stars. It's dull without them, empty." You mused quietly, making Lew look at you, head leaned to a side then his gaze turned to the infinite deep blue.
"Mh, I guess it is. I don't need a star lit night when I'm with you, though."
"Huh?" You looked at him; not quite understanding what he meant by that.
"I saw you up there." That was his only answer but the distant look in his clear eyes made you think he wanted to say much more. He just seemed so serious, his smile having faded away.
"In the sky? I'd like to put into the light that I'm not dead yet if you don't mind." You laughed, the urge to try and bring his smile back where it belonged stronger than the one screaming to lower your head.
"Don't be silly." He huffed a laugh though you realized he seemed to avoid your gaze, focusing on the full moon instead. "Back on the island. Had you ever watched the sky back there? Beautiful landscapes, really. And I just saw you, between two stars, shining brighter than any others." His eyes finally met yours and your will to disappear into the ground vanished as you choked on your own words. How Lew could say such things without second thought other than the one to show you his love, you had no idea. You embraced it however, as you loved and welcomed every part of him like he did for you.
"Next time you're going to say something as cheesy, send me a warning first please." You croaked out with a shaky voice, overwhelmed by so many different feelings. Shock, confusion, uncertainty, surprise. Fondness, devotion, love, adoration. A light squeeze of your hand made you turn your head to look at your boyfriend, who was impossibly close to your own face. His wide smile, his clear eyes that could make everyone do as he wishes, his scent. Him, and you was yours like you were his.
The tips of his fingers strokes your cheek in such a tender way it made you shiver, and then he kissed you. It definitely wasn't the first time you kissed, but you always felt like the first time. The feeling hadn't changed for a bit, and it was like forever. As if each kiss was infinity.
When you pulled away just enough to breathe but still in each other's space, you both had stupidly big smiles on your face but none of you seemed to care.
"You're my star." Lew's words hung in the small space between your lips, twirled around your heart like a promise.
"Where was my warning?" Your lips met again in a valse, to the rhythm of the words still sealed in your heart and it was the only answer you needed.

my ‘beautiful cinnamon roll who deserves better than this’ fave: carwood 'mama' lipton never deserves to be sad. ever.
my ‘this ship is wrong, nasty, and makes me want to cleanse my soul, but i still love it’ ship: i mean... not wrong or nasty but nixon/speirs definitely sent me through a loop or two because they're so unexpected but so perfect for each other!!
my ‘they’re kind of cute, and i lowkey ship them, but i’m not too invested’ ship: chuck/tab have been a background ship ever since i fell into the fandom and i'm sure if i took the time to invest myself in them more i would die for them!!
The Pacific

Guadalcanal was a horrifying place full of hostility, unhumanity and never-ending presence of death. But there were also moments between that kept the soldiers going. They had to remind themselves they're still just people.
Just human.

"Look what I got!" Hoosier exclaimed as he jumped into their shared foxhole with a bag in his hands. He reached in it, mischievous smile was set on his face while looking at everybody around.
"What is it?" Chuckler laughed, "don't tempt us!"
Bill had packs of crackers in one hand and a jar of strawberry jam. It almost seemed surreal after such a long time of the disgusting army food.
"You've got to be fucking kidding me." Leckie breathed out hypnotizing the objects in Bill's hands.
"Ladies first!" Hoosier winked at Y/N and threw her a whole pack. She caught it and immediately torn the package apart putting two crackers in her mouth at one time.
"This is so good," she mumbled, "you deserve a fucking kiss for that."
"A kiss?!" Leckie gasped, "if I knew I get a kiss from you, I would have gotten you food way earlier!"
"Wait your turn." Bill teased his friend with a cheeky smile on his face.
Y/N wasn't sure if they're just joking or there is some kind of a hidden meaning to it. She'd normally brush it off and not make a big deal of it, but this time it was different. She knew she has a little affection towards Robert Leckie deep in her from the moment she met him.
Bob wasn't like any other soldier - or any other men actually - Y/N had ever gotten close with. He was special to her in every way possible. Robert was smart and brainy due to his passion in reading and writing, also brave and vulnerable. He could be from time to time stubborn or quick-tempered but all that was making it him. This was Robert Leckie and Y/N liked him probably way more than she should.
"Oh shut up, Hoosier! I bet she'd like to kiss me rather than you. Wouldn't ya, sweetheart?" Bob snickered looking seductively at Y/N.
"I have a name and it's not sweetheart, Robert." she frowned but a playful smile flew over her face.
"Oooh!" could be heard from Chuckler, Runner, Sid and Hoosier as they all laughed how Y/N embarrassed Leckie the smoothest way possible.

The conversation continued while they were allowed to relax some more before another offensive. But since the exchange of opinions before, Y/N and Leckie had been glancing at each other and sometimes caught the other staring. Bob blushed every single time as Y/N smiled slightly looking away quickly.
"Last cracker guys. Who wants it?" Runner asked gesturing to his fellow soldiers.
"I do!" Leckie and Y/N replied as the same time. They looked at each other immediately with playful smiles on their faces.
Y/N quickly jumped at Runner grabbing the cracker as fast possible while laughing like a little girl.
"Hey, that's not fair!" Bob exclaimed, "we should flip a coin or something."
But Y/N wasn't feeling like sharing plus she wanted to tease Bob like he teases her all the time.
"Well, I licked it, so it's mine." she winked at him and did as she said.
"You're such a child, Y/N!" Leckie laughed shaking his head.
"And you love meeee for it." she sang smiling sweetly.
"Oh I do, sweetheart."
"If you do then, you might even call me that."
The boys groaned looking away from the duo. "Leave that kind of talk for your private foxhole time! We don't wanna hear it."

Hi! Can I request something? Something the reader is a medic in the Pacific War and with H Company, and she rarely opens up, but she’s always trying to appear like everything’s ok. But something happens, and she finally breaks down in front of the boys? ♥️

The cool breeze rushed across Lew Juergens face as he watched you talk to Sidney Phillips in the distance. Hoosier stomped on his cigarette butt and climbed into the tent, it was raining and they all had received their letters. Listening to Leckies letter from Vera and Runner writing one back to his mother was “thrilling”
Hoosier peeked out of the tent only a little to see you run back in with a smile on your face, he swore it could cure diseases and he never wanted to see you without it. Although much like these times he would.
“Just got my letter from back home” you situated yourself, sitting close to the blonde headed sass monster that you grew to love. “Haven’t heard from my sister in forever!” Chuckler looked surprised, they didn’t know a lot about you, definitely not knowing you had a sister. You really must’ve been excited if you told them “Well, read it out loud then” he exclaimed
You opened the letter carefully, careful not to get any rain on it. You skimmed over the greeting and how she had been doing. Because something didn’t feel right, and needless to say, it was not. You gasped softly when you got to the part
Mama has contracted some kind of illness, the doctor said she’d be okay but that was weeks ago. Y/N, I’m scared. She’s so pale and weak. We have no idea if she’ll make it.. I don’t mean to be negative but I wouldn’t bet anything on it.
Tears came to the corners of your eyes and you gulped, a knot forming in your throat and you were unable to speak. The guys looked over at you and immediately rushed to you asking what happened.
You shook your head, brushing them off and asking Leckie if he had a cigarette. You smoked one after the other assuring the men you were fine and it was just drama back home. Scared to tell them how you were, you wanted to keep up your tough persona.
Days and days passed and you were antsy with anticipation, you kept asking when letters would arrive but no answer. After weeks, you finally got an answer and this time it was from your father. You shakily opened the letter, and the first sentence was “I’m sorry” without even bothering to read the rest of the letter, you burst into tears. Chuckler who was putting a blanket over Leckie nearby heard your wails and ran over to you. The letter had fell out of your hands, and you were shaking so bad it looked like you were going to fall too.
Hoosier had been walking back from eating what some would call a meal, it gave him protein but he felt like he was only going to barf. When he didn’t see you smiling and smoking like you usually were, he knew something was wrong. He jogged up to one of the privates seeing as he didn’t know where any of the guys were “Do you know where Y/L/N is?” He pointed to the tent and Hoosier ran there without thanking him.
“Y/N?” Sid had finished reading the letter with Chuckler and they had layed you down on a cot across from Leckies
“You doing okay, sweetheart?” He ran a hand over your scratchy blanket. You turned over to him, face to face. His pressence calmed you down and he wiped the tears off of your neck before nudging you over so he could sit with you.
“I got a letter from my dad” you said, telling him this only reminded you further of your mother and you blinked away tears but you were too late. He saw a letter adressed to you and picked it up hesitantly, reading it. When he was done, he almost fell off the cot out of shock. You talked so highly of your mother to him. He was the only one you spilled your guts to of course, that was when you were tipsy.
He engulfed you in a hug and kissed your hair “Y/N, darling” you started to cry again and he rocked you like a baby, hushing you softly. “Don’t cry, baby it’s okay. It’s okay”
The men only seeing this side of Bill for you even more surprised but leaving him with you. “Are you alright?” He softly whispered
“I will be” you sniffed and dried your tears. Even with Leckie’s back to both of you he muttered “For the love of god, either kiss her or don’t but don’t leave her waiting”. He looked up at you nervously, making a mental note to cuss Robert out later but you sat up and smiled, kissing his cheek “Thank you for that" he turned his head and kissed you softly, the opposite of his persona which was rough.
“You’ll be okay, okay?”
“Okay”
