its like 6 in the morning, i know.

we have our 3rd performance today and OUR LAST PERFORMANCE WENT SO WELL!!! as i’ve said before, im playing officer barrel and the audience laughed when i confessed my love, PLUS WHEN I DIED SOMEONE AUDIBLY GASPED!! IT MADE ME SO HAPPY!

I’m hoping that tonight is also like that, hoping someone will laugh at something I do. luckily, our lockstock improvs his lines if he forgets them, during dont be the bunny he said “officer cladwell- no, sir clad- sorry, MISTER cladwell” it was really funny, i had to hold back laughing

me and my friend whos playing hope, wrote a bunch about our characters, making it in our universe, barrel and lockstock are like her uncles. they’d babysit her at the police station, go on walks around town, teach her about their weapons. as hope grew up, barrel would tell her about his love for lockstock and hope would then become his wing (wo)man. we have this entire universe, i may go more in-depth on another day!!

she's a nepo baby. she's got an absolutely massive heart somewhere beneath the tissues. she may not have learned much at the most expensive university in the world, but she did learn that kidnapping people is wrong. also how to manipulate mass groups of people. her boyfriend starts a revolution and holds her hostage and all the rebels wanna kill her so bad they sing a song about it. the only reason they don't kill her is because she's their bargaining chip against her father and her father doesn't even save her. she's a bastard child and her estranged mother is her boyfriend's boss. she joins and takes charge of the revolution that wanted to kill her so bad. she kills her father and then becomes another version of him and sends her town into despair. she comforts a dying woman by telling her there's a glass of water inside her. she likes bunnies. I didn't say her name but she popped into your head didn't she-

i dont think i did *terrible* or anything but i def walked out of the room afterwards just... Not Feeling It lmao, but it was still so so much fun -- gOddddd i fucking missed musicals+singing WITH PEOPLE. i even got to use my low range and sing with the tenors😌💕 ((whiiiiich. turned out to be the part with the most fuckery lmao, so i hope i didnt embarrass myself too badly as the... perpetually loudest mf in the room lmao))

the movement call was the part i was most nervous abt for tonight ((since i am patently Not a dancer)) and ngl it was. Rough. bc we'd been standing around for hours doing music and my knees were NOT pleased with me even wearing my braces

but!! callbacks tomorrow are doing solo singing, which i feel much more confident about, and!!!!! i got called back for the part im hoping for AND two parts i was *totally* not expecting!!!!! so im definitely okay with how it went:)<3

LEMME JUST RANT ABOUT URINETOWN FOR A SECOND NOW THAT MY ROLE IS OVER CUZ ITS SO GOOD-

see the crazy thing about urinetown is the paralells. like, we don't see Hope as this master manipulator, yet...she is???? she went to the most expensive university in the world for it?????

it first occurs in follow your heart, she practically plays with his feelings to get him to like her back (see her validating his feelings and using the "Why, my heart was saying the same thing just the other day!!" card), and from there, yes, the two are genuine, but you gotta admit, in follow your heart is she does use a bit of a persuasive direction.

then we see her manipulate again in the end when she leads the poor to UGC headquarters and. yknow. kills everyone 💀 she eventually becomes worse that her father by denying them any other option than. die from lack of basic needs, and leads their demise. ALSO SHE COULDVE AT LEAST LISTENED TO THE RESEARCH?? CONTINUED IT??? AND SAVED EVERYONE LIKE BOBBY AND CALDWELL WANTED?????? anyways-

also, Caldwell and Bobby were the same at one point. they had to have been. a poor boy in the midst of crisis has dreams to help the people of his community, so he rises up with the support of his people, and becomes a martyr...sounds like two people, doesn't it?

ALSO², PENNY AND CALDWELL ARE SO TRAGIC????? this young woman (who is perhaps a prostitute just to get by) and (probably) poor boy are in love, and once the water table drops and keeps dropping, they take a chance to give into their feelings and have their night together, which leads to their daughter Hope being born, and once that happens Caldwell has possibly already started his revolution, company, and rise to the top. so he takes their daughter (possibly so that she doesn't have to go through what he went through as a child), makes her promise to never tell Hope who she is, and becomes this hard, cold shell of a man he used to be, becoming someone Penny doesn't even recognize anymore. she doesn't love Cladwell, she loves Caldwell, the dreamer who once cared for all the people. and that's probably why she calls him such, to try and get her beloved back.

urinetown is so fucked i’m thinking about how cladwell uses killing an innocent creature as a metaphor to make a point in two separate songs. and when he’s saying this to hope it’s “as rich people we have the right to step on the poor; metaphorically kill the bunny” but then to bobby its “your revolution idea would burn through our resources so fast you might as well be killing a metaphorical baby, shame shame”…. really cool way to write a character as hypocritical now that i think about it.
