Hangster AU -- Firefighter Bradley & Best Buy Employee/Aviator Jake

AU where Bradley is a firefighter and Jake is still an aviator. Jake is on a long leave, probably because of the mission, and he takes another job to pass the time. He works at Best Buy.

Bradley comes to Best Buy to buy something, he's still in uniform, so Jake knows where he works at. And they snark at one another, but Jake manages to throw the box of what Bradley needs at him, smirking all the time.

"Can we stop debating the merits of 10 different wires and connectors and just give me the box, please," Bradley said exasperated as he held a hand out for the box this Ken doll was holding.

"Sure, here, catch," Jake said shrugging throwing the box lightly at him. "No need to get as red as your fire truck."

Bradley groans, rolls his eyes, and walks away. He was never wearing his fire department shirt in public ever again.

Bradley put his keys on in his bronco. And turn it. Engine sputtering.

"Oh come on," Bradley muttered, moustache twitching.

He stepped down again on the brake and clutch, twisting the key. Nada. Bradley groaned and hit his head on the steering wheel wondering who the fuck to call.

He jumped when he heard a knock at the window, seeing Ken doll, looking sympathetic.

He opened the door.

"Need a jump?" Ken-doll asked.

Bradley, sighed, "Yes please."

"Give me a sec to bring my car over."

"Thank you." ---

"Man, you've been having issues with the lights and radio, too? But you just replaced the bulbs, right?"

Bradley deeply sighed and rubbed the space between his eyes, "Yeah."

"That's fucked up, man, good luck, better bring it to the shop for the wiring."

"No comment on the wires on this one?"

"Car wiring is a whole another thing I ain't gonna touch, too much of a headache for me," Ken-doll said, flicking the toothpick in his mouth to the side.

"How do you know so much about wires, anyways? You work with it a lot at Best Buy?" Bradley said going back inside his truck to try to start it.

"Nah, not really, I studied engineering, and my other job. You pick some stuff up along the way."

"You studied engineering and you work at Best Buy!?" Bradley said fingers slipping from the ignition.

"Anything wrong with that?" Ken-doll said, raising a brow.

"No, I mean-- Oh look the car's starting," Bradley said flustered. "Thank you, man, I'm Bradley Bradshaw by the way, incase you need anything, I'm by the fire station." Bradley said holding out his hand.

"It's Jake, and if you need anything from electronic goods to repair, come to Best Buy for a wonderful service," Jake said shaking his hand and winking.

"Should add auto-repair to that slogan."

A series of events caused them to meet again. And they hit it off, go one dates and all that.

Jake likes listening to Bradley's stories about his job, and Jake tells him about some crazy customers he had to deal with.

Bradley never asked about Jake's previous job/other job, and Jake,,, forgot.

One day, Bradley's station gets a call for a jet having to do an emergency crash landing. And they have to make sure that the area is clear and be prepared for anything that might happen. If the pilot gets stuck or something gets lit on fire.

And they're listening in on the radio with the pilot and pilot's instructor telling him what to do. Calm, steady, smooth, and knowledgeable.

Familiar.

They arrive on scene, get the pilot out, and the instructor comes eventually in a rush.

"Is my pilot, okay?" A familiar voice asked.

"Yeah, we're getting him checked out at the hospital, nothing severe."

He hears the man sigh, "Good."

The man turns the corner, and his eyes flickered to Bradley for a moment, before focusing back on the fire captain.

"I'm Lieutenant Commander Seresin, thank you for helping during this incident."

"I forgot!"

A pause.

"Also does the team know we're dating?"

"The station? No, why?"

baby 5 & sanji- the role of gender

I’m definitely not the first person to say this but Sanji’s women obsession is very similar to Baby 5’s need to please and I wanted to expand on it more bc the thoughts keep bouncing around in my brain 

Sanji and Baby 5 have the same core need to find love and it effects their actions- especially in matters with romance/the opposite sex. While both of their fixations are often treated as jokes, they still reflect underlaying issues tied to their backstories.

The way they act on this romantic drive is somewhat different, as they both assume the traditionally expected roles in accordance with their gender. They’re putting on a performance, behaving over-the-top in effort to please, while still varying in how they portray their love-sickness to remain a model man/woman. these differences set them apart, and I feel in Sanji’s case it can result in his behavior being brushed off as simply a weird quirk (unlike Baby 5, who’s actions remain lighthearted but are recognized as a trauma response).

They both have the same reaction to potential interest/attention, but remain strictly on the opposite ends of the spectrum of Man vs Woman in a conventional relationship. 

Baby 5 maintains a caretaking, flattering-focused obsession of the opposite sex rather than transforming into having pervy gags. She wants to be needed but she also enjoys (and sometimes imagines) being swooned over.

Looking at Sanji in the beginning, before the annoying nosebleed/creep gags became more prominent, he was also rather romance driven rather than motivated by lust. He, similar to Baby 5, saw many as potential suitors; a hopeless romantic at heart. While Baby 5 strikes at the first sign of interest from a man, Sanji equally treats every woman as someone he needs to look after . 

Baby 5 jumps into the role of a caring wife. She blushes like a schoolgirl and assumes that every man who is kind is showing interest in her. Meanwhile Sanji, filling the role of a traditional man in the relationship, seeks to provide. He wants to aid women in any way possible- whether thats with cooking or actual physical protection. His pervy gags could also be read as a way to fit this norm- as a man it’s more societally acceptable to be lust driven- (and in some cases, lust/sex is a way to “prove” ones manhood).  This is especially prominent after his time apart from the crew surrounded by people that challenged his notions of gender.

Overall their use of these traditional gender roles are safe; an easy way to get attention. People in real life often use romantic attention as means of fulfillment, and I read their actions as the same.

Baby 5 and Sanji are both people pleasers. Baby 5 is named as such, noting she can’t deny anyone anything because she longs to be needed. Sanji’s lack of self-worth causes him to always put others first, even at the cost of his own wellbeing. They see themselves as existing to fulfill a needed role, bidding their time until the moment arises. 

Other people have noted how similar Baby 5 and Sanji are in this way, joking that it’s good Sanji and Baby 5 never met because they’d get married instantly. I think it would actually be very interesting if they had met. Two people pleasers in a relationship is a recipe for disaster, especially with people as passionate as Baby 5 and Sanji. Their way of dealing with conflict would be to.. not. Neither would ever want to say the other is at fault. Their approach towards romance is seeking a sense of fulfillment, which would create an interesting dynamic with their exaggerated swooning. 

Now there are some people who truly are greatly motivated to pursue relationships, but with Sanji and Baby 5’s backstories revolving around a lack of love,  it’s safe to assume that it’s a bit more of an inorganic reaction for them. Especially when looking at the situations their love gets them into, such as when Baby 5 fell head over heels for a man because he was kind to her once despite not showing any prior attraction. 

Sanji is on the opposite side of the spectrum, finding /every/ woman beautiful and himself unworthy. Where Baby 5 aims to prove her worth from any one person and seeks a reason for her receiving kindness, Sanji places himself below all the women he meets and grovels in attempt to please as they stand on their pedestals. 

Sanji was raised by Zeff- someone who had a strong influence in how Sanji perceives and treats women. Sanji’s hunger for love was enhanced by the teaching of strict gender roles and emphasis on chivalry. While Baby 5 longs to be the helpful wife, Sanji becomes the pursuer- acting like a white knight as he sought women’s attention. That’s not to say his attraction isn’t real, but his extreme reactions to women reflect his desperation to please. 

Sanji also has the added factor of the men vs women in his life prior to Zeff, with only his mother and sister showing him kindness. Women were safer; and Zeff furthered this belief through his teachings.  

They’re both self-sacrificial to a dangerous degree. To them, their lives are indispensable; meaning if someone needs to die for the greater good then that’s the role they feel they were made for. Their life IS other people.

This is also interesting to consider in the perspective of non-heterosexual relationships. Sanji has a complicated past with gender/sexuality, so his aggressive actions towards men reflect what he feels a “real man” should be. Feminine attention is good, acceptable to enjoy, but male attention is something to scorn.

For Baby 5, we don’t really see her react to the kindness of a woman. She grew up around predominantly men and men appear to be the ones who most often take advantage of her. It’s curious to consider if meeting another woman with good intentions would allow her to be more sincere. 

I guess in conclusion I often see Baby 5’s actions being recognized as a response to her past, but I don’t often see Sanji’s explained similarly. Personally I think Sanji’s behavior is greatly effected by his starve for love, and he throws himself into it just like Baby 5. However, the way theyre perceived is greatly effected by their gender and their according behavior to fit the norms. Regardlessly, he and Baby 5 both rely on other people to find their worth- and the quickest way to do that is to turn to romantic love.

One thing that's sad is that Percabeth antis will never understand that it's a best friends to lovers ship. It's not a toxic enemies to lovers. Even some shippers themselves don't get it. Percabeth seems harsh to some people because they don't get that inherent friendship in them. Percy and Annabeth are soulmates before lovers. They bickered and fought before. That's constant in their dynamic. Annabeth is NOT violent or abusive!! Uncle Rick did mess up some dynamics in hoo (like Percy and Nico) and I think the judo flip scene could've been portrayed in a better way but I think that was meant to highlight that stupid old "I hate you but you know that that's a dam lie" (that was an intentional Conan Gray reference) thing they had as children

Honestly you've got to be lying to me if you haven't been insane with your close friends at least a few times. You obviously won't beat them up but you'll be bickering and slapping each other or something like that without it being abusive at all

Been thinking about this scene a lot. How it echoes their conversation from before.

A response. A solution to what Beatrice told her. Ava, who was so against dying—because death is not a reward, just an empty chasm that renders everything meaningless—now prepared to lay down her life if it means Beatrice gets to rest, if it means that the war inside Beatrice’s head will stop.

Beatrice, who is bound by duty but finds her heart pulled in another direction. Who might want to run with Ava but can’t. She’s a Sister Warrior. Her duty is to the Halo and its Bearer. So she will tell Ava to run, because that is the best way to protect her. To protect the mission.  Because that is the only way both of her goals align. As long as the Halo remains safe, so does Ava.

But it also means that she can’t join Ava. Her Sisters are dying. She has a duty to the Order. To her mission (protect the Halo, protect Ava) and so she will watch over from afar. She may not be ready, but she is prepared.  

But Ava is not. Ava, who will not leave unless Beatrice is by her side. If she runs, Beatrice will run herself ragged, spending every waking minute to keep everyone safe. Beatrice, who will never get a chance to live her life because she spent that time making sure Ava could live. And Ava doesn’t want that. Not unless they do it together.

So Ava chooses. Chooses the mission for Beatrice. Breaks away first, obscures her true plan until the very last minute. (But Beatrice still finds her. Beatrice, who will always follow Ava. Always by her side until the very end.)

To be a Halo Bearer is to be a martyr. Ava rejected this fate until the very end. And even after that. Choosing to go into the portal, choosing to be separated from Beatrice so that they may both live.

Since the very beginning, Ava knows she has been living on borrowed time. But god damn it, she’s going to steal as much of it as she can.

Ava chooses to go through the Arc and Beatrice chooses to let her go. Both strengthened by their faith in the other, because they will always find their way back to each other.

Ava has never gone somewhere that’s kept Beatrice from following. Even now.

Some finale musings…

I think for viewers of the show, seeing Ian and Mickey together - happy, married, celebrating their anniversary - is a satisfying ending in a lot of ways. They had so much trauma and angst and drama over the years to the point where it seemed like they would never get a happy ending. So watching all of that and seeing them end up in a good place in canon - it’s a pleasing arc for their ship.

For people who are even more invested and involved in fandom - I think it works well. I don’t think the writers intentionally wrote anything specifically for fandom but what they did write sort of inadvertently gives both a satisfying ending and one that also allows us to keep shipping them. Their ending in the show doesn’t feel like an end of a story….more like an end of a chapter. It’s a good ending but it’s an open one.

It gives us their happiness but it also gives us lots of topics to explore too. We can see it as frustrating because there’s certain things that didn’t get explored deeply or things that weren’t written well in canon. But I like to look at the potential it gives us as fans to explore all the different possibilities for their future.

We get them living in a new place - how do they cope on the West Side? do they stay there or move back to the South Side? what’s it like for them to live together just the two of them?

We get a brief mention of kids - do they become fathers? or do they stay as uncles? how do they finally come to decision about what they want?

We see them start a business together - what’s it like for them to work together? is there business successful? do they continue with it or try other jobs?

Frank dies - how does Ian deal with it? what’s it like for them now they’ve both lost their fathers who were violent and abusive towards them?

The mention of Ned in HOS - does Ian come to terms with the abuse and trauma he’s been through? and on the subject of trauma and abuse…does Mickey come to terms with what he’s been through? they’ve had so much angst in their past which will have an effect on them for the rest of their lives but in what different ways does this impact them?

We see them navigating married life and attempting to communicate - how does this communication continue/grow? does their view of marriage and what it means for them change or evolve?

Parole is often mentioned but one day it will end - what’s it like for them to finally be free from that? how does their time served affect them? do they manage to stay out of trouble?

There’s also some less serious topics to think about - how do they end up decorating that empty apartment? what do they finally name their business? do they get a pet? does Ian start gardening?

There’s way more topics and ideas that I’m not mentioning (both serious and not so serious) but….you get the idea. There’s a lot left for us as a fandom after the finale.

I’m kinda rambling here 😅 but I like that the finale gives us all sorts of jumping off points for fiction and art and discussion and debate. I enjoy seeing everyone’s different interpretations and ideas for what the future is like for them. They don’t end up dead or in jail or separated or miserable (like some other canon ships in different shows) - we’re not left with angst and sadness….just happiness and hope for the future. We can have fun exploring all the different ways their future might turn out - we’ve got endless possibilities for them.

Love enstars stories that’s just Rei being just some guy. The new scout story has Midori see Rei as a regular human and not some perfect idol. In ! Era main story, Rei was introduced as some kind of legend in Yumenosaki. He slept in a coffin. He was one of the Three Oddballs. Now characters are getting to see him as the regular guy he is. Rei is just some 20 year old who was put on a pedestal way too early in his childhood, and I’m happy characters are starting to realise this

what if when dream comes back hob has a boyfriend. like not something serious a chill relationship with great sex. so chill in fact that hob doesn’t even mention him in that first meeting.

anyway dream comes to see hob at the new inn one day and sees them all cozied up so he turns to leave immediately (he isn’t jealous or anything hob is obviously busy) but hob sees him and calls him over and dream reluctantly does. and he’s just a salty little bitch the whole time. (hob maybe even thinks he’s homophonic at some point?)

(a little bonus something i thought of is the bf introducing himself and hob kicks dream under the table to do the same so he’s like “…Morpheus.” and the boyfriend is like “omg i looove greek mythology percy jackson is still one of my fave reads” and dream is either confused or seething and hob is trying to hold back his laughter)

ANYWAY so it goes on for a couple of months where every time dream tries to visit hob the boyfriend is there and he’s sick of it (not because he’s jealous or anything he just wants some alone time with his bestie buddy pal)

so dream starts showing up at purposely inconvenient times and at first it isn’t obvious to hob (the bf is suspicious from the start but he doesn’t really mention it bc dream is important to hob and he’s trying to be supportive)

he crashes a movie night and he’s never actually seen a movie before but that’s not the point

he crashes a themed night at the inn and holds hob’s attention for the most of it

(the bf tries to mention it to hob then but hob is like “he’s really broody and antisocial usually i’m just excited to see him out and enjoying himself”)

he interrupts them a few more times but the last straw is when he knocks on hob’s door just when things are getting good between him and bf… hob goes to shoo whoever’s at the door (though honestly hob who could it possibly be)

“dream!… it’s really late”

“you weren’t in the dreaming yet and i wished to speak with you.”

“yeah i’m actually a bit busy”

(cue bf “robbie come back to bed!”)

“i see. i shall wait for you here when you’re done.”

“……..that’s not exactly what i meant”

(dream got the hint perfectly but the good thing about being an anthropomorphic personification is being able to pretend not to understand human social conventions)

so dream waits on the sofa and hob sheepishly explains the situation to bf who (understandably) completely loses it and demands hob sets clear boundaries with dream or he’s leaving. hob stalls for a bit because what if he tries to talk to dream about him and dream decided they should go back to centennial meetings??? and of course he can’t tell his bf this so bf is rightfully pissed and breaks up with him.

after bf is gone hob sits with dream (who is totally not smug about the whole thing) on the sofa and asks him what it was dream wanted to talk about. at which point dream realises he didn’t come up with a good excuse. and hob is like….. huh?? wait. OH.

and then they get together and live happily ever after :)

Announcement/Infomartion/Request and why I don't write lords of chaos anymore

So school is stressing me out, I'm a little depressed/burned out at the moment and want to concentrate on my feelings and my personal fanfictions and write my own works again because I've only been following requests for the last few days and weeks, which I like to do otherwise it wouldn't be open but I'm a little exhausted from it. I always have to finish them after a few days because I don't want to keep you waiting either (most of them will come next week, don't worry).

I also wanted to address the fact that I'm getting tired of the Lords of Chaos requests. Since these are the most I've ever gotten, I understand very well why there just aren't that many of them, especially for everyone writing about the movie. What started for me with Rory's character Euronymous has now reached everyone from the movie. Also (even if not every request) many are just smut and even though I'm a sucker for smut it's always the most stressful thing for me to write. As I think everyone here knows I always want the best for my readers so for you I try to make everything as good and realistic as possible but it is exhausting. I don't write for Loc anymore because I never really got into the ,,fandom". It's a movie based on events that are just a tragedy and I never felt completely comfortable writing for it.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is, requests closed, I will NOT be writing Lords of Chaos for how long I don't know. Hope it's understandable and you loc enjoyer out there will find someone in time but I honestly want a little variety in my requests and not always the same or at least time for me and my personal stuff first.
