Ice is powerful, and shaping it a craft. One that Martyn did not take lightly.

He spent all his free time in an attempt to master it. Though much was left to learn, he knew a few properties. He could encase himself in it to protect himself from harm. The ice itself, while encased, could restore some health back to him as it covered and healed his wounds. And, as he recently discovered, he was able to create a massive block of ice.

He’d first had it shatter on a chicken, a pig, other animals. Creatures with a low amount of health, killed upon impact. The ice melted seconds after the creature had been slain, and Martyn could collect the meat and other goodies from these creatures easily afterward.

It wasn’t as powerful as he thought it would have been. He lived with that assumption his entire life, and he never had any reason to believe otherwise.

One day, he met his neighbor. A man named Scott, a transporter, with the ability to teleport between places he could see, gave him a taste of his powers. Martyn decided to return the favor.

He never understood just how potent his magic could be. He created the rock of ice believing that Scott would come out of it with only scratches and the ability to laugh it off. The ice crashed down and as the ice melted away, Scott did not get up.

Martyn rushed forward, helping a dazed Scott to his feet. He had been strong enough to take that, but it still hurt like hell. He’d bruised his entire body, and he was certain some bones had fractured. Breathing seemed to hurt and he walked with a limp.

The only words that could escape Martyn’s mouth were apologies for what he’d done.

Once seated on the ground, they spoke with one another. The reality of the danger of his power slowly seeped into Martyn’s bones during this conversation. While Scott had survived that attack it had still damaged him significantly. Other people in this world – their other neighbors, all fun and powerful in their own right – didn’t have as great a constitution as transporters or chillagers. If Martyn misplaced even one of these ice rocks or let them fall on the wrong person, it was very likely they would never get up.

Martyn still could only apologize. Though Scott forgave him – the genuine shock on Martyn’s face helped him believe Martyn had no idea it was that powerful – Martyn couldn’t bring to forgive himself. if Scott had been even slightly injured, if he hadn’t been as healthy, he would’ve killed someone.

All for a fun display of power between new friends.

He kept his hands close to his chest on his way home, afraid to lash out. He thought he had control over what he could do – apparently not. He’d have to be more careful in the future. Accidents like this could not happen again.

To make sure nobody he cared about would get hurt again.

He didn’t want people to hurt because of him.

He couldn’t let that happen.

Not again.

Dig this – the month of Anthesterion is almost on us. I tell you, it’s times like this where I wonder if I am truly the fastest thing on Earth.

Seems like only yesterday I was laughing it up with you at the Lenaia, and now I’m being called to spread the word and prepare for the big Anthesteria festival – y’know, the one dedicated to Bacchus that has all the wine and flowers?

I even hear the big guy himself will drop in during the Feast of the Choës to lead the great procession. Isn’t that just nutty?

Now I know what you’re thinking, and as much as I’d love to spend all three days of this fabulous festival with you, I can’t. On the third and final day, I have to take my place in the Underworld and accept offerings of koliva on behalf of the dead to placate hostile spirits. Until I hear those cats cry, “Through the doors, Kares, it’s no longer Anthesteria!” I’ll be preoccupied.

After that, though? I’m all yours, babe. I just hope ol’ hothead doesn’t give me a hard time.

I know I say this a lot, babe, but you are one truly happening gal. I can hardly wait until the next time I see you.

My concept is at work...im not very good at keeping friends for too long tbh! theres been a few ive managed to stay in contact witk but its very hit or miss,
