yup thats right folks. its my monthly jay analysis post.

But now!!! Its about Prime Empire.

Ok guys look. Prime Empire is a terrible focus season. Jay had absolutely no character development and no power development. Nada. Nothin. Its just a “focus season” because he came up with the plan to make the villain good again and had more lines than usual (plus his little “abandoned” speech.)

HOWEVER!!! The Prime Empire shorts do say something. So, as we know, the Wildbrain seasons tend to poopoo on Jay’s character and boil him down to the funny cowardice character who is the weakest of the team. But something the shorts do attest to is the fact that Jay is STILL a ninja! The MOMENT he went into Prime Empire and saw something unjust he stood up to it. He tried to warn people. His desire to protect people goes beyond his job its his identity.

(i'm so sorry for the crappy captions. Youtube's gonna youtube.)And like the meme I posted earlier, he handled himself pretty darn well without the others. He didn't even complain about being alone. He accepted his situation pretty quickly and was already starting to fight against Unagami before the ninja found their way in. (Which you could argue could be because he is experienced with the situation in Skybound.)

And about the League…everyone makes fun of it but i beg yall to think about it for a hot moment. Who all was in Prime Empire?

Thats right. Kids.

When Jay fights the red visors in the shorts, you see the squeals of a bunch of players once they recognize him. Its very childlike and you have to realize that these people are just avatars.

All the people we saw get sucked into the game were kids. Of course theyd flock behind a ninja! And Jay had no problem taking them in and entertaining them and keeping them safe because that was his job! And they all dressed up like him and acted like him because he was their idol!!! And Jay wasnt complaining lol.

Jay acts all unsure of himself most of the time, but Skybound and Prime Empire make it canon that he is a great leader! And an even greater ninja! Sure, compared to Cole he's not as strong. Compared to Nya his personality might not stick out. His power isn't focused on like it is with Kai and Zane...and he isn't the main character chosen one like Lloyd. But these small scenes in his focus seasons remind us that he still was chosen to protect people and is very gosh darn good at it!

I mean, look at him kick red visor butt without even an OUNCE of a complaint about being without powers. (WHILE LOOKING LIKE A SOPPING WET CAT THIS MAN) But yeah appreciate this fight scene please.

Anyways, Jay doesn't get enough credit as a ninja. We forget he was trained for longer than Kai, has one of the most dangerous and powerful elements, is the reason the team can handle intense situations without freaking out, is the master of not one--but TWO chained weapons (known to be one of the most difficult types to master!), and is the ENTIRE REASON THE BOUNTY FLIES??? without ever being acknowledged for any of these! Cut him some slack guys he's awesome. Prime Empire does him so so so dirty.

I think of this tweet when I think of the Mighty Nein:

If you are not familiar with Everything Everywhere All At Once, it's...quite a lot to describe, but in the real world, these two people are married, with a modest and at times frustrating life, and Evelyn (Michelle Yeoh) in particular feels she's something of a failure, and is often frustrated with her optimistic husband, Waymond (Ke Huy Quan). The movie explores alternate universes, and these images are from one in which they never married and emigrated to the United States and opened up a laundromat, but instead, she became a martial arts action movie star, and he became a wealthy businessman. They reconnect at her film premier and discuss their regrets, but when she turns him down again, he tells her "So, even though you have broken my heart yet again, I wanted to say, in another life, I would have really liked just doing laundry and taxes with you."

In other words, that tweet misses the point to an extent that is almost difficult to believe...and so to I feel does the belief that the Mighty Nein should have become more famous, or that their story now isn't a happy one.

The Mighty Nein are unique among the parties in that they are all, relatively speaking, young, and profoundly mortal. There's no Keyleth, or Laudna, or Fearne, or FCG here. Of the PCs, Caduceus is the only one who will see past 200, and he's by design steeped in the concept of mortality. They get this life and that's it.

So yes, Beau is having some bumps in the road adjusting to her first real job. Veth is anxious about starting a new business venture, and much of her late campaign arc was about her worries about the drastic changes she'd led her family into. Fjord and Jester don't know how to react to having a home of their own, even a tiny one. Caleb is dealing with the achingly slow bureaucracies of academia. And Fjord, Jester, and Caleb (and, offscreen, Essek) are all tentatively navigating their first or one of their first romantic relationships as an adult. And it's rocky, and weird, and full of banalities and nosy neighbors and smart-mouthed crew members and irritated tenured professors and demanding librarians.

And laundry, and taxes.

It's real in a way the glittery fame isn't, and despite it all, they're happier for it.

i could literally talk abt quotes from thg for HOURS like im not even kidding (i have) ....however, it has come to my attention that some people GENUINELY agree with the quote haymitch says in catching fire "you know, you could live a thousand lifetimes and not deserve him." which could not be more false. i believe they both deserve each other EQUALLY like there is no "one deserves the other more" type of thing going on. its like. they have both gone through the hunger games TWICE, peeta has been taken and hijacked, and katniss (a 17 year old keep in mind) is basically forced to become the head of this revolution. the worthiness of the other ones love should NOT be the first thing on their mind. "but she was literally soooo mean to him!" 1) womp womp 2) stfu. like i do NOT want anyone to ever call this girl mean. like ever. Something i love about spy x family is tatsuya endo's ability at changing the tone of a scene

Like the first 'serious' arc of the series, the introduction of bond and the possible bombing, for the most part it's kept pretty light hearted and comedic

Except, it's only like that when anya is in the picture

Even after seeing bond's vision of loid's possible death, endo still manages to make the scene comedic with anya's response

But once the scene shifts from her to loid and sylvia, theres such a clear tonal shift

This scene is much heavier than the one directly before it, largely because anya is no longer in the picture

And this isnt the only time he's done this

The cruise ship arc takes on a much heavier atmosphere as it focuses on yor, but it gets much lighter when anya is there

And once again turns heavy one yor is alone

More recently with loid's backstory, this is especially true

We the reader are left alone with loid in his memories, those few chapters largely lacking the series' known comedy

The lightheartedness only returns once loid wakes up, surrounded by his family, with the one comforting him being anya

I find it very interesting anya's ability to lighten up a scene, and i think it is largely due to the fact that she is a child

Even when the scene is not focused on her, her presence and childish innocence and wonder reaches out to everyone around her, and disappears when she isnt there

I think it's also why these heavier scenes hit so hard, this series is so good at luring people into this sense of hope, in that way maybe we are like anya, who is experiencing these things for the first time with a sense of awe, resulting in these heavier moments hitting much harder than we would expect

And of course, a lot of it is due to endo's amazing story telling and craftmanship, he really is a good author!!

Ectoplasm, Kryptonite, and Lazarus Water. How are They Related?

Popular opinion is that Lazarus Water is pretty much just sewer water. >~< But with it being a kind of matter from an entirely different realm/reality it doesn’t play by our rules. I head cannon it being similar to Oobleck in the way that pure ecto (obtained straight from the Realms) is a non-Newtonian fluid where the harder you hit the more solid it gets. Meaning that the reason Krytonite is solid is because it’s ecto that’s still recovering from the sheer force of Krypton dying. The reason why the Lazarus Waters are closer to a straight up liquid is due to Ra’s and his merry band of murder assassins having added things to a naturally occurring pool of ectoplasm. This then made it stay in a more liquid state that’s severely unstable. Therefore changing the chemical composition just enough to register as a completely new thing. It also makes most people very angy. Very much something they fucked around with and found out. :3

With pure ectoplasm being more like a non-Newtonian fluid, it now makes sense as to why it hurts when ghosts and other ecto-entities throw it around. But this also means that it can possibly hurt normal mortals if thrown at a high enough velocity. It also makes the sheer amount of property damage much more explainable. Because if you hurl a being made exclusively of ecto at a high enough velocity they’ll become such a strong solid that nothing in the mortal realm would be able to stand up to it.

Anyways, that’s my somewhat scientific take on ectoplasm, Lazarus Water, and Kryptonite. :3

i suppose i never really explained how they even met. very basic fact about tango - he likes to keep his hands busy. he’s constantly working on something, whether that be job related or a passion project. he doesn’t see any issues with it, but his friends don’t exactly agree. for their peace of mind, he agrees to at least make an honest attempt at taking a break. he feels as though physically getting away from any reminders of work might be his best bet, so simply staying home wouldn’t cut it - his desk, his notes, his tools, it would all be right there and way too tempting, and he’s trying to prove a point here. he’s capable of relaxing, thank you very much. the idea of driving out to the countryside is one of the first that he has, and one that he settles on. it gets him out of the house and is a nice break from the city, without being so far away as to be inconvenient.

he does try the whole “doing nothing” thing at first, but it simply does not work for him. he ends up approaching some of the locals, quickly befriending many of them and helping around wherever necessary. they get a much needed extra pair of hands and he gets not to die of boredom, so it’s a great deal for everyone involved. maybe it’s not exactly the type of relaxation that his friends were thinking of, but it does genuinely help him unwind. tango’s arrival at the village every saturday morning soon becomes a routine.

at this point he is essentially an honorary member of the community, and there’s something that puzzles him. it’s a house - one that he’d actually become quite curious about a while back, what with it being slightly away from the rest and seemingly always empty - and he finally asks what the deal with it is. from what he can understand, the guy who lives there keeps completely to himself, but is actually rather endearing. rarely did he speak to anyone, but when it came down to it he was never rude or unpleasant the way you might’ve expected him to be. the people were mostly just worried about him. that’s enough to spark tango’s interest, and there’s not much else for him to do, anyway. so he goes. the guy - jimmy, he learns - is a bit wary of tango at first, but it doesn’t take much time for them to start getting along, even if they’re slightly awkward about it. tango finds that jimmy is amazing, actually, and by then he’s really questioning why it took him so long to approach the lone house. they spend hours just talking, bickering playfully, and generally getting very little done.

the mood shifts once they notice the setting sun. jimmy appears to realise something rather suddenly, and while he remains kind, there’s a sort of anxious urgency in his voice when he points out how late it had gotten, suggesting that maybe tango should get going. it’s a bit confusing, but tango agrees, not wanting to overstay his welcome. he decides he’ll come back there next chance he gets

Headcanons and story stuff under the cut

First things first - Because this AU focuses mostly on my made up backstory I had to give her a name

Emma Van de Laar is what I settled with A Priestess from Holland born sometime in the 1400's Devout woman her entire life

Unfortunately for her everything supernatural seemed to disagree with her peaceful lifestyle - The most notable incidents being her run-ins with vampires and beasts alike

When she was 25 a Strigoi made it's way into her home, impersonating her beloved dog who went missing few days prior Then in her late 40's she was forcefully turned by a Vampire

Being turned into a creature of the night caused great distress, faith was all she had her whole life, she couldn't bear to lose it

It took 20+ very painful years but she managed to regain her faith in spite of her vampirism Trying to put her life back on tracks she once again took up her position as the head of the local Church

Fast forward 300 years things started getting a little boring Emma started yearning for all of the things she's missed

This is when what I call the Party Girl Era sets in Accidentally joined a cult And all of the things mentioned in her therapy session with Laszlo happened

Which brings me to the most worked on part of this AU Her relantionship with Van Helsing

I asked myself ""How fucked up would it be if they actually loved each other ?"" Here's the story I put together

Van Helsing was sent back to Holland by the Church - they heard some vampires might be targeting the local Priestess What they didn't know is that Emma is the vampire seen in the area

When Abraham arrived Emma was slightly shapeshifting to hide her most noticeable vampiric features She knew he was a vampire slayer

They spent around two months just kinda hanging out together During that time Abraham slowly fell in love with the holy woman It didn't take long for Emma to feel the attraction as well

But uh oh - then there was the accidental reveal Emma burnt herself on Abraham's silver ring (while they were flirting no less) Mortified by the possible consequences of her slip up she tried to escape

When Abraham caught up, instead of killing her, he tried to talk things out A lot of feelings spill out during that conversation Fed up with the tension, Emma makes a move and that's how their affair starts

A bunch of trust building later and they do end up being an actual couple Would love to show the comic I made for this but it's like 38 panels long and Tumblr would piss itself In total they spend five years together before everything goes to hell

Hell started when the Vampiric Council finally had enough of Emma's bs Forcefully seperated her and Abraham Took her to America And drilled into her mind for so long she dissociated so hard she ended up getting amnesia After successfully rooting her into the Council's system she got the position of the Guide

Abraham didn't want to give up on his beloved and spent years searching for her Unfortunately... When he found Emma it wasn't her anymore The brilliant woman he once knew was no longer there

After that point the timeline starts lining up with the Show Some things do differ but it's not anything major until the Nightclub comes around

Obviously Guidja happens in this AU With the backstory I gave the Guide their dynamic is really fun to mess around with

Oh and lastly What the hell is a Strigoi ??

Basically: vampire 2 electric boogaloo I thought it would be fun if there were different species of vampiric creatures

Strigoi have some interesting folklore attached to them It was super fun to mess around with and bend in all sorts of directions

Emma is actually a Vampiric Strigoi which is one of the four Strigoi variants I put together Which basically means she's not really a vampire but something closely related

My idea for making her a Strigoi comes from the Show and folklore Strigoi seem to be put into a similar category as Wraiths and apparently they can learn magic ?? So that was a super easy connection to make

I have a lot of different design notes for my version of bestie Guide too but this mess is already way too long

So I'll end it with songs that were a huge inspiration when I started working on this AU

“Ahhhhhhggggh.” BANG.

That… was strange, Villain thought, head cocking to one side. They thought the agency’s shining star lived alone?

“Mmmhmhmhm… fuck fuck fuck. What even is this?”

They did. Hero did live alone.

And no one else was here, Villain had made sure of it. So… ?

“Why?!”

At Hero’s particularly passionate exclamation, and a second loud thud, Villain rolled their eyes. Clearly, Hero was the crazy one between the two of them.

Granted — they were trespassing, but that was besides the point.

Not even a few seconds later, curiosity killed the cat, and Villain slammed open the door to Hero’s room.

“It’s nOT maT—”

“Hero—”

Their nemesis bolted upright, eyes wide and mouth agape. On reflex alone, Hero launched a pencil at Villain’s head.

Unfortunately, they missed, but watching Villain flinch away from the writing utensil was well worth it.

“The hell was that?!” Sighing, Hero slumped back into their normal relaxed pose - a glare already replacing the shock on their features.

“A pencil.”

“Well, duh.”

“Why are you in my house?”

Stepping closer to admire their surroundings, Villain ignored Hero’s comment entirely. “What are you doing?”

“Nothing that concerns you. Why are you in my house?! I just answered your question, it’s only fair—”

Huffing, Villain grinned. “When have I ever been fair?”

They continued advancing towards the desk on the far side of the room, forcing Hero to shy away from their current project. It did give them a much easier escape route, but well. What good is running if you have nowhere else to go?

“Hey! No. Why are you here, Villain?”

“I wanted to give you fair warning, is all. You have been especially difficult lately, and the way I see it, you have one of two optio— is this math?!”

“Uggh, no… well, technically yes, but no.”

Oh my.

“You were making all that noise over a math problem?”

“It’s not math!!”

“You’re a student?”

“Why do you care?”

Villain looked around the room again, this time paying much more attention to detail. Well, if the forest green banner was anything to go off of, Hero was a student. At the local college. Huh.

“You are—” it’s been a while since the criminal had smiled. Genuinely, smiled.

“Shut up.”

“I didn’t even—”

“You did.”

“So—”

“It’s due tomorrow.”

Villain was full on laughing now, doubled over with a hand on the desk behind them. How many times had Hero missed a deadline?

“Last month, when I had you all chained up and useless for, how long did it take you to get out? Two weeks?”

Scowling, Hero knew exactly what Villain was referring to.

“Yeah, thanks for that. It’s not like I could explain to my professors, ‘Hey, I’m that hero everyone sees on the news. Sorry for missing your test, I was kidnapped.’ No, they all think I’m incompetent.”

“They’re not wrong—”

“One of them almost fucking failed me.”

Oh my god, it was too much. Wiping tears from their eyes, and cursing their aching stomach, Villain fought to regain their composure.

“Damn, then you’re not going to like what I am about to say.”

“Nno - no no no no,” Hero swung up an arm to try and delay the inevitable.

“Hhhmph, yes, but don’t worry. I’m not going to hurt you, you’ll be fine. For the most part, at least.”

All at once, the humorous mood sank into something serious. Dangerous. Dear goodness, Hero did not like the sound of that.

It was easy to forget that Villain was… a villain. Even after the thinly veiled threat, it was hard to recognize the 22 year old idiot in their room as someone who tortures people (people like Hero) on the daily.

Damnit.

“Oh, don’t look so frightened, love. If you’re going to play hero, you have to deal with the consequences. So, which would you prefer? Will you come with me now, by your own free will?”

“Hell no—”

“Or will I have to drag you out of here myself?”

Mmmm. Such lovely options.

Eyes darting to the floor, Hero’s stomach dropped. This was bad. This was… Villain was in their house, for goodness sake.

All they could think to say was, “No.” Which was incredibly lame, but what else could they do about it? They just wanted to finish their assignment and go to bed. They wanted nothing to do with whatever… whatever this was.

With a great deal of effort, the crime fighter met Villain’s darkly amused gaze. “No?” they echoed, lips hung open in feigned offense.

“Please, I just—”

“My little Hero, you’ve gotten quite bold, so much so that I can’t let it continue unchecked. We both know that I will win this fight, and frankly, I see no reason why we have to do this the hard way.”

Yeah, the hard way was not ideal. Best to avoid any unnecessary pain while they still could.

Hero’s jaw clenched subconsciously, before relaxing along with their audible sigh. “Where are we going?”

COLORING TUTORIAL. for anon

Quick break down. I always focus on light first then work on the colors and adjust the light a last time.

I mainly use: Levels, Color balance, Selective color, and sometimes Photo Filter (Warming Filter (85)), Vibrance.

My jokers are: the Burn and Dodge tool, and Hue/Saturation layer.

step 1:  I duplicate the image, and set it to screen. 75 to 100% if it’s really dark, otherwise between 15 to 55%.

I add a Level layer. I increase all three levels (the white, grey and dark points). It brings out the brightness and shadow, and the person doesn't end up washed out.

I add a Color balance layer. I increase the red in midtones and highlights. I increase the magenta in midtones, very slightly. I decrease yellow in midtones and highlights and increase it in shadows. 

Color Balance is the layer I used to correct a screencap looking greyish, too yellow or blue, etc... It helps me create a base I'll have an easier time working on since it won't look colorless or too yellow/blue/any other color. Selective Color is the layer I use to really work on the colors.

I use Selective color and the first thing I do is increase the black, between 10 - 40%. I increase the yellow and red. I adjust the neutral colors : I always add red, and either I don’t touch the yellow or I decrease it (if I’m not making a poc edit). Still in neutral colors, I increase the black, between 4 to 6%.

If I'm working on a POC edit I'll always focus on their skin tones and really work with neutral, white, red and yellow to make them deeper/more saturated. If I'm working on a Buck edit, I'll decrease yellow and red.

Here I've decided to reduce the red a bit, and to add a Photo Filter to give the icon a warm but not overly red tone. I've added the color on her clothing to see how it all tied up together.

I added another Level layer, and added more light. Same method as the other Level layer.

It won't show up on the caps since it isn't a layer, but I use the Dodge tool. The shadows looked too dark along the right side of her face but I was happy with the light everywhere else so with the Dodge tool I added some light around 10% opacity.

I find this tool (Dodge and Burn) really useful when the contrast is off and a side/part of the person looks too light or dark.

I didn't use Hue/Saturation here, but sometimes a screencap is so yellow, blue... that I can't save it with color balance. I'll decrease the color I want to get rid as much as possible and then either follow my usual steps, or create a new layer, find a screencap where the hue is normal, use the Eyedropper color and pick the skin color, go back to my new layer, takes a brush and paint over any skin visible and then follow my usual steps.

wait people are calling ryomina doomed yaoi… they literally end up side by side with each other for eternity how is that doomed

I've heard ppl think that Ryoji is like dead. Like dead dead forever and ever. Which, doesn't make any sense but If u want my insight on why people may think they're doomed is this.

People probably enjoy them not for the fact that they're fragments of each other's being, or any of the weirder aspects that come with that. Jealousy, spite, love, adoration, devotion. But instead wash it away and down to a very clean slate of "They didn't have enough time with one another while they were still alive." Focusing more on the month that they had rather than the future and fate they end up getting.

I also think this stems from the fact that people read Minato's characterization very different than my interpretation. It would make sense if people would think they're doomed if, to them, the P3 hero is someone who very much enjoyed every aspect of his life. But because of that fundamental disagreement on his character, it also cracks the reason why I very much enjoy Ryoji and Minato together.

They end up together for eternity, watching over the world as a seal. It's incredibly sad on paper, sure. But to Minato it's all he could ever ask for. Someone that completely understands him and watches out for him, can never leave him, and treats him with kindness. The thing he was yearning for the entire time. He gets to be with forever.

the existence of the files on vash and knives is so strange to me??? if we're to believe that rem meant to hide their existence as independent plants ((based on her telling knives not to use his powers in front of other humans)) then why create files that outs them as plants?? and if it wasn't rem who created them then who?? Not enough to make any post on it other than general confusion but boy, I think you're onto something. I'm gonna put this under a cut for some Trimax spoilers that Tristamp has foreshadowed will come to pass, so might actually be Tristamp spoilers (but this is Orange, they surprise me at every turn, so WHO KNOWS)

It's very plausible Conrad made those files.

We know that Knives knows Conrad from before the big fall as seen in episode... eleven? Where we see Tesla's eye on Knives's wrist. And knowing all the shenanigans the twins get up to, Knives probably accidentally woke everyone up again like he did in Trimax. And Conrad stayed behind to meet them after all of his regrets with Tesla (as seen in him collapsing when Knives shows up with that eye).

But that fucker. He has a picture while standing next to Tesla in his office to this day while ADVOCATING FOR GENOCIDE. Morals? Basic human decency? He sure as hell doesn't know them. He knew Tesla, it's hinted that he was at least fond of her, maybe loved her like a daughter in Tristamp, and even made some sort of fucked up replacement of her in Elendira. And he still let her become that tortured, tormented mess in those test tubes. He still let her stay "ALIVE," even though plants can obviously die.

Yes, Rem's access code gave them entry into those documents, but that doesn't mean she created them in the first place. Rem sure as hell isn't faultless in all this, but this strikes me as Conrad's m.o.

I ended up changing the pants colour to more a mauve for the ones I made later, but of course you can use any colour yarn you’d like.
