today for disability pride month, i’d like to discuss something not many able-bodied people know about: ambulatory wheelchair users!

first, “what is an ambulatory wheelchair user?”

it’s a term used to describe people who use wheelchairs that can stand and or walk in some capacity. the amount a person can walk can vary greatly between ambulatory wheelchair users, some may need their wheelchair 60% of the time, some may need theirs 90% of the time.

“why would someone use a wheelchair if they can walk?”

there are tons of reasons someone who can walk might use a wheelchair, such as fatigue, balance, heart problems, pain, fainting, and many, many more. it could be dangerous for them to walk.

“isn’t that being lazy?”

nope! take shoes, for example. you *could* walk without them, but it would be painful, and could give you cuts or blisters. would you consider wearing shoes to be lazy? also, many disabilities and conditions are progressive, using a wheelchair can help slow progression and damage to your body.

so next time you see a wheelchair user move their leg, remember that ambulatory wheelchair users exist!

I’ve been thinking about how neutral shauna is toward all the cult/symbol stuff and it made me realize something so interesting and important and real about her character, which is that I think she’s going to approach the cult stuff with tact and skills she learned from her relationship with jackie.

in her relationship with jackie, on the surface it looked like shauna was just following jackie around, her second in command. sure, they’d fight, but shauna never really openly challenged jackie’s air of authority as team captain or as her friend (until, of course, she did). but we know that internally shauna was not actually blindly following jackie. shauna has always seen the power structure in their relationship for what it was and navigated it in her own way. she let jackie think she was in charge, but shauna is actually making her own decisions—hooking up w jeff, contemplating going to a different college, etc. yet on the surface shauna was happy to let jackie believe her power was unchallenged, bc she knew anything else would blow up in her face. she does the math and keeps her own personhood to herself while letting jackie think she holds more power over shauna than she actually does (at least from shauna’s POV).

I think she’s gonna take this approach to the cult stuff. it would be a great way to keep with the themes of the cannibalism and the cult mirroring girlhood. shauna knows how to appease self-appointed or even peer-appointed leaders while keeping her own personhood internally, and I think we’ve kind of already seen this with the cult and cannibalism stuff. shauna is not speaking in lottie’s favor like van or travis, but she’s not openly challenging lottie like tai or nat. she doesn’t have much to say about it at all.

but we see her being quietly skeptical at various points, and she did partake in the cult shit in s1, and she initiated the cannibalism (again under the guise of serving jackie: “she wants us to”). I think shauna’s got her own shit going on that sometimes aligns with the cult and sometimes doesn’t, and I think her relationship with jackie has given her skill in subtle manipulation of social dynamics. shauna is not the hunter or the leader like nat and tai: she serves her role alone in a shed slowly bleeding out and rationing the meat, and I think that reflects her social survival strategy as well. she is such a private person and bides her time, keeping her personhood in private, spaced out, rationed little pieces of rebellion. jackie didn’t just physically keep shauna alive—I think the skills jackie gave her are going to keep shauna very safe when it comes to people starting to be sacrificed, and fights and power struggles breaking out, because she knows how to appease leaders while looking out for herself at the same time.

Basically their species /look/ like satyrs but r actually like. carnivorous deep-sea fish guys? And because of how fish eggs work, their siblings all got washed to different parts of the world. 

So basically, because ocean-dwelling species communicate at a frequency most mammals can’t hear (think whales), Strawberry makes music w/ messages that only capricorn (her species) can hear, as a way to message her fish siblings and tell them to come to the nightclub and meet their siblings. Also not really related to the story but she’s dating a robot

i added that because people were messaging me and treating me like a hucow, talking about lactation, and speaking down to me like a subby pet just bc i was posting free tiddies here.

i genuinely have no interest in hucow. i don't think it's hot when other people act or dress like cows, etc. it just doesn't do anything for me. at all. i don't really have anything against it, though. it's simply not my thing and that's ok!! it's fine to like or dislike kinks for yourself!! but when i get lots of activity from other people treating me that way, that's NOT okay... so i created a firm boundary.

i think it sucks that i have to set all these really strict boundaries so people will stop treating me as if i enjoy all of these kinks that i have no interest in, or they're only trying to dominate me...

i have my own kinks that many people don't like and often have in their dnis. i don't go around messaging people with piss and feet kinks in their dni stuff like: "hey bitch piss on my feet" like, that is ignoring their boundaries and i wouldn't have consent to speak to them that way. but for some reason, there are popular kinks around here and people will just assume that i like being treated in ways that i specifically don't, and have often said that i don't consent to participate in. and certain types of people ignore that.

you sent this at a time when i was writing a post to address this issue (again) bc of the increase of icky blogs in my notifications (again)... i don't mind interacting with SOME kinks that i don't have an actual interest in, bc i like my online friends and making people feel good. i've received unexpected replies on my own "hard kink" posts so i always use appropriate tags and never send a message i think crosses any boundaries. (see: me triple checking someone's pinned to make sure i used correct pronouns, body language, avoided any squicks and hard nos, added something they really like, and said something nice just to be sure it didn't sound too mean.)

Ahh thank you! I’m so glad you’re enjoying Sink into Me. That fic is truly just one silly idea that got out of hand. the next few chapters are a real rollercoaster!

I’m honestly the type of person who writes what I want to read so I just sort of get inspired by wanting to see my own ideas come to life. and the self indulgent side of things too - because I definitely love some certain tropes and like the idea of a strong man taking care of me so that sparks some inspiration!

As far as writers block? Hoooo boy.

- First, I’ve learned to give myself grace and go at my own pace, to avoid feeling like I’m letting people down when my updates aren’t on a schedule.

- second to that, I do everything in my power not to stare at a blank page - so I write the scenes I’m excited about first then go back to the ones causing me the most block. Or I make small notes about what each upcoming scene should cover, referring back to my outline if needed. I also give into my other ideas that might be distracting me from where my block is - sometimes getting out a lil plot idea onto paper gets it out of my brain at least. but this is also why I have like 10+ WIPs

- Lastly, I force myself to write sometimes - not in a punishment sort of way, but for structure. I’ll set a 20 minute timer and just force sentences out and usually that can help me get past the mental barrier!

That’s all easier said than done, of course. I’m working on a chapter right now that has taken me months and months of rewriting to really finally get into a flow, with a lot of stops and re-starts!!

Bit's whole deal in this au is that,, he's not exactly a person? To put it simply, he's a mish-mash of Juliano, Domain, and Forum. Think of him almost as a robot that can be controlled.

If this fusion had gone normally, all three of them would actually be present and would be sharing the consciousness of Bit, and each one would have control for a certain amount of time.

The reason why this isn't the case right now is because Juliano is in control, but he has zero memories. None. He doesn't know who or what he is, and he doesn't know anything of his past. The fusion process, meanwhile, was so painful for Domain and Forum that they're dormant right now. They don't have their memories either, though.

okay so. this is the atla gaang magical mystery cure au oiuygfcghioiuhygtf

idk if you know mlp at all, but there’s an episode where twilight accidentally casts a spell that makes her friends’ cutiemarks switch. and cutiemarks represent like your passion and true talent and meaning in life so like. very important, you know? so they’re all miserable and have altered memories and it’s a mess and twilight has to fix it.

so. atla au where the benders all switch because of like idk the spirits or something lol or maybe sokka says something about spirit mumbo jumbo and they say “okay then:)”. so, i associate the characters based on what element of harmony i would give them, and suki is usually included in the mane six because there’s six in the gaang. but suki isn’t a bender so she’s with sokka (and ty lee and mai) trying to fix everything. so here’s the switches:

katara becomes a firebender and is now the firelord

zuko is now the avatar

aang is solely an earthbender and teaches at a metalbending school which he cannot do so he is Struggling (and we all know that earthbending isn’t his forte)

toph is now a firebender in prison and being treated horribly (which is actually a wake up call as to how unfairly azula is being treated in prison and how she shouldn’t be in prison and needs therapy)

and azula is now a waterbender who specializes in healing and is traveling with the avatar to help heal people which... she’s not Great at (and hates but that’s also because katara is more than a healer but no one sees her that way UGH)

so those are the issues. i think they would solve it the way they do in the episode where you know they find zuko and are like “hey zuko katara is really struggling at being the firelord pls help” and he’s like “idk besties i’m just the avatar like i’m not cut out for that” and they get him to go help and something clicks and he gets his memory and bending back. then they get katara to go help azula, azula helps toph, toph helps aang, and then ig everything is fixed iuygfcgujijuhgfcvghj

ig it would also be interesting to explore how miserable everyone Actually is too - like zuko doesn’t want to be the firelord and katara doesn’t just want to be the avatar’s healer gf and toph doesn’t want to teach but feels obligated to and azula is being treated horribly in prison and aang just wants to be a kid and do kid things but can’t because he’s the avatar. so they try and change that at the end, like look at the future optimistically knowing they’re going to make some changes <3

Hey-! I hope you’re okay with non related dsmp questions but uh how did you make your carrd-? And how do you make a carrd in general? I’ve been wanting to make one for awhile and I’m a bit lost

OK so this is my best shot at making a little mini-tutorial of the very basics, if I missed anything feel free to lmk and I will try and clarify!

Alright so obvi the first step is to sign up for carrd.co, you'll log in and hit create new site. It will show you a bunch of templates but you'll want to click "blank canvas" and then you should see this

So at some point you will need to pick a name for your site, this is essentially the same as a tumblr url or any username, you just need to pick one that hasnt been taken yet. You can click anywhere on the screen to bring up a menu that lets you change the background to a color, a gradient, an image etc! Once you've got the background you want click the little plus sign

These are the things you can add to your carrd, there is a limit to things you can add but it's not super easy to hit so as long as your carrd isn't too ambitious you should be fine. They're all sort of self explanatory except the bottom two, container and control.

Adding a container looks like this, it's essentially just a place to put other things, like you'd add a container and then put in text, images, etc whatever you want and it'll keep them all near each other. Again you can change the color of this as well as the transparency, I'd recommend playing around with different styles to get what you want :)

Adding a control is the same as adding a new "page" to your carrd, and it looks like the above. Instead of "section01", you pick a name for the second "page" of your carrd, it can be as simple as "page2" if you want. Then anything you add under the dotted line will appear on the second page and not the "home" page. You can have several of these "pages" but each time you want to separate them you need to click "control" and name the new "page"

(I changed the background color to make it easier to see lol) So after you've added your text/images/etc to the "home" page, you'll probably want to add a button. On the left you'll see you can change what the button says, and then where it says "url", you're going to want to type "https://(whatever you named your carrd).carrd.co/#(whatever you named the page)", you've got to include the hashtag or it wont work. After that, the button should take you to the second "page"!

You can have as many pages as you need, and you could have all the buttons for the different pages on the home screen or you could make it go one at a time sort of like my carrd does. And of course you can customize all the fonts, colors, round the corners, add shadows etc, it's really fun to play around with.

This is just how I made my carrd, lots of people have cool one-page carrds using the "table" feature, there are some pretty neat tutorials on YouTube that show you step by step how they've done it :)

The cool thing about carrd is that people can't really easily access your site unless they're following a link or they just randomly typed in your site's url, so you can save the site in an unfinished state and go look at it to see if you like it, tweaking things here and there.

I think that's the basics of it, lmk if there's anything else you need help with and I will do my best! It's intimidating at first but once you get the hang of it making a carrd is really fun :)

I think that makes sense... I haven’t watched L!ly Orchard since I was a teenager but I have watched videos criticizing the “writing tips” she posted on Twitter a while back and a lot of the issues she has with media can be resolved easily if she just watched anything but children’s cartoons and/or engaged with media in ways outside of fandom-centric discourse.

And like, children’s media isn’t inherently bad or shallow. There’s plenty of shows and movies that handle more mature ideas well and have very intelligent writing (Infinity Train comes to mind,) but at the end of the day it’s still a show for children that has to deliver its themes and ideas in ways that a child will understand, so when you get to a certain point in your adult life, you’re not exactly going to be challenged by what those works are presenting you with any more. 

Like, I love The Lego Movie to death and I think its critiques of capitalism are great for its target audience, but if I earnestly called it “the greatest critique of capitalism ever” then it’d be pretty obvious that I just haven’t seen a lot of media that handles that theme head-on, in ways that don’t have to be hidden behind a layer of kid-friendly storytelling.

Hey same anon-sorry for trying to troubleshoot your human body but try potassium (banana....) And make sure you're having salt so that the water absorbs. You can see how hydrated you are by looking at your veins, usually they're more visible when you're well hydrated (this is also why you should be well hydrated when you get ur blood drawn). If this is no help, it's cool, no need to reply. I hope you feel better soon.

I think I've gone over it briefly before (or at least one aspect) but Suilosaux's woodworking and painting skills are probably his favorite ? It's very artistically leaning but it scratches my brain constantly.

I'm not sure when he picks up painting ? probably when he meets Haurchefant. He was a light in Suilosaux's life and sometimes Suil finds it easier to express things in artistic mediums. His first big painting was of him, though he keeps it and his ability to do so secret. Much as he loves that it is another way for him to express, he's just very embarrassed of most things he does due to the environment he grew up in. So instead yeah he just. Pushes it away, and lets his pride in his fighting skills hide the others away.
