There's just something about the dads in Mike Flanagan's works that fuck me up. None of them are perfect but they're all trying their best and love their kids so damn much. The horror of knowing the world is gonna eat your kids alive no matter what you do. The tragedy of never knowing just how much your dad loved you until it's too late. I just-

(joking voice) you... put a shot of coffee into your diet coke? what Midwestern depravity is this???
I don't think we can blame the Midwest for this one...
I don't really drink coffee; for a long time I couldn't, because the caffeine would cause inflammation that would give me sinus headaches. I had a procedure done to widen my sinus passages that stopped the headaches, but I had never developed a taste for coffee and I'm a morning person so never really needed it. I'm still sensitive enough that a little caffeine goes a very long way.
In the last year at my old job, however, I was starting to get really stressed in the mornings which impacted my work, and I found caffeine would help (as many people with ADHD do before they get a diagnosis). I usually had a Diet Coke in the morning, and I knew I could tolerate sweetened coffee, so I thought, well, let's try it out. And it's pretty palatable, especially once you get the ratios right. So I'd get into the office early, start the coffee percolating, and pour off the first six or eight ounces into a mug with my Diet Coke (always pour in the Diet Coke first -- the coffee does dreadful things to the foam otherwise). That'd kick me into high gear for the day and sustain me until lunch, usually.
I don't bother anymore unless I've had a really bad night of sleep or on the increasingly rare occasions I've been hung over; the Adderall handles the stress just fine and there's less stress anyway now that I'm a) working from home and b) not working an abusive job.
I've been told this is called a "red eye" but that also refers to a regular coffee with a shot of espresso; I've also seen "Americola" referenced. But I find that I get the best candid reactions if I just say "Oh yeah, that's my diet coke with a shot of coffee." :D

The Not-Deer
芦The Not-Deer is the first animal unique to Amity Park that the series introduces. It can be found in the Stargazing video, emerging from the trees during an otherwise peaceful moment in camp. The Not-Deer appears to be identical to an ordinary deer (specifically shown as a buck), except for it's head. It's skull and jaw are square and muscular, much like a wolf's head, it's eyes are forward-facing (a well known mark of predators), and it's teeth are clearly carnivore's teeth. They can apparently be scared off by a magical bag which grows a strange type of flora, though this only works some of the time and they are "always a pain to chase off".禄
Shout out for @glitch-in-space 's amazing series Amity Park Analog, Once I read it I couldn't stop myself, it took some references but I tried my best! I hope you like it!
