Ok I love love LOVE the idea that Laudna realized her feelings for Imogen after the gayest conversation in existence™ because Imogen started using her circlet to block out thoughts literally the next morning. So (assuming Laudna didn’t realize this explicitly while they were talking) Imogen wouldn’t have had a reason to think that things had changed and meanwhile Laudna was rethinking EVERYTHING. That’s like romcom-level bad (or maybe good?) timing.
And then they got split up right around that time too so she couldn’t have seen Laudna’s behavior change even if she wasn’t relying on their mental connection. It makes complete sense that she asked to kiss her with the full expectation that she would be rejected.
(also I’m pretty sure I’ve read a fanfic that had Laudna experience this exact moment of realization so congrats to that person for getting a good grade in gay subtext interpretation)
EDIT: it was @overnighttosunflowers (cairophoenix on AO3) with The Truth Must Dazzle Gradually.

"THIEF HAD LONG DRIVE," Ottawa Journal. June 27, 1913. Page 1. --- Stole Horse in City and Drove to Graham's Bay. Horse Found. ---- One of the most daring daylight thefts that has been successfully perpetrated in the business district of Ottawa in several years, was made at the Langevin Block yesterday afternoon when a horse and express, the property of Mr. Peter Pauze, was stolen.
The animal and vehicle were located this morning at Graham Bay, and Ottawa detectives left to bring the stolen property to the city, and attempt to capture the daring thief.
A few days ago the department received a complaint from Riverside Park, stating that a valuable horse owned by Mr. Fred Thatcher had been stolen from a pasture in the vicinity.

January 1987. Kuhmo, Finland. Agfa Agfamatic 100, Kodak film.
I have no memories of what the circumstances were. This was never enlargened because it was deemed underexposed by the lab. Throw modern scanner technology at it and bam! Mild results.
