I don’t know if he’d name his horse something elegant like Odin or something stupid like Bacon.

Brio Horse Portrait WIP 3.
The rendering/shading has begun! I’m actually not too sure what my method is but I became aware of it today. My method seems to be starting from dark zones and encroaching out. Make sure to pack your patience with ballpoint pen. I always use the same light pressure and just build layers up via cross hatching and contour shading. Since you can’t erase, if you go too dark, that’s the end of the story. It’s also just more relaxing and soothing that way. Come back next Friday for another WIP! I’ll try to keep detailing the process.

Brio Horse Portrait WIP 2. Still just a pretty horse portrait pencil sketch but with more detail dictating the contours. I’m trying a new method. I’m blocking in highlights and shadows in my sketch. Think of a “color by number” drawing. The way you render your drawing can definitely make or break it, even if you have a nice sketch. In theory, blocking in the major highlights and lowlights will lessen the chance of an out of place shadow ruining your drawing. Since I uploaded the last WIP on Friday, and today is also Friday, I will continue the trend! Expect a new WIP of this next Friday!
