It was my friends birthday recently so I made some birthday art of me and their hylics fan characters!

Characters are: Daelimu (beloved horseshoe crab), Bathy (isopod man), Helios (long horn mask fellow), Banroog (anomalocaris shortie).

Banroog, Daelimu, and Helios are all buddies who hang around New Muldul since Daelimu lives there. Dae and Roog are quiet platonic queer partners who watch on as Helios gets his ass kicked in. They would have funny scenarios doing dumb shit around the world of hylics.

Banroog, Daelimu, and Helios all visit the Somsnosa juice ranch (they thorsty. They want juice) and spend their day petting Juice beasts like cows and getting the stink eye from Bathy. Helios is the most feral of the trio, but not in a “lets do reckless shit for fun on purpose” like a wild teen, more like Helios just lacks a frontal lobe and is like “can I take a picture by this juice beast?” And then they get bitten by the juice beast.

Banroog is the only one out of the friend group who owns a photography camera (an ancient artifact that was broken and bought off of Dedusmuln. Banroog repaired it and now takes pictures of their friends with it). Banroog is the poor soul tasked with taking pictures and videos of the shit they all get into. Daelimu being the nurse in training gets to pull their hair out watching it all play out. They are a grab trio, I might draw them more.

these are the two full pieces i own! cracker jack raccoon and farmers market squirrel <333

both i bought from the taxidermy store (my absolute beloveds ugh, everything is ethical and they have such goofy pieces with their serious ones)

i also have like. so many bones. i have a few deer vertebrae, a lamb skull and a ram skull both found on mount olympus (holy s hit), a coyote skull, a turtle skull, a crocodile skull, a mink skull, so many assorted bones, a jar of rabbit eyes, a petrified chicken heart, a turkey foot, a pidgeon foot (curtesy of my zoology teacher), a deer antler, SO MANY TAXIDERMY BUG MOUNTS!!! my personal faves from those are an orchid mantis and a dung beetle, also a horseshoe crab shell. and just, so many other assorted things.

i have rambled hehehe but yes! taxidermy! my beloved!

tell me about the creatures that live in sedimentary rocks pls omg

fossils live there!!! I don’t know too much about fossils bc I tend to study living things and most fossilized creachues are extinct. ooo except for my best friend horseshoe crab!!!! she’s a fossil and alive. wait lemme get photos to demonstrate.

my beloved. horseshoe crabs have changed so little over the hundreds of million years they’ve been around that they’re often referred to as ‘living fossils’. really beautiful creatures.

The only extinct fossils I really know about are the trilobites, a class of arthropods from the cambrian period that everyone is probably familiar with. they are among the oldest fossils in the fossil records bc they had hard exoskeletons where their predecessors had soft bodies that could not be fossilized. They were incredibly successful and diverse, as displayed in my collection of trilobite plushies below

as well as anomalocaris, of Tribute to anomalocaris fame, and many other cool guys!
