Once upon a time there were a select few restaurants to choose from for casual sit down meals with friends and family.
Now, they seem to be on every corner. Every flavour, every price and all sorts of variety. For consumers its fantastic! For owners its beyond a challenge to grow market share in such a competitive climate.
Great Food, Great Service in a Great Environment was the secret to success, however, all aspects have evolved in a very short time. Food from all over the world is now available a block away, you don't even need to go there, it will be brought to your doorstep... insert a completely different conversation around how third party delivery companies are killing the bottom line and we are held hostage to them.
Some meals you can get hot and ready at your local grocery store, that was never a thing 12-15 years ago. Even 7/11 has hot and ready items.
Again, great for the consumer but a challenge for owners/operators!
So how do we change the landscape, and gain guests?!
Assuming we have the big 3 of great food, service and environment (Nowadays a fourth "Great Value" sneaks into the scene from time to time) there is a defining piece to this puzzle.... Our people!
Our front line staff that are "trained" as our "Brand Ambassadors" if you will. Supporting them are our management team! That full team will define our market share through core-operations and execution.
We already know to "invest" in out team. Great owners/operators that want a long term, sustainable restaurant understand this. These teams build a "name" for your brand in the community, the live community and, more importantly these days, the online community via google, yelp and so many more.
We have all seen our industry drop training standards marginally over the last number of years. When you ask staff / managers what are their biggest challenges you will hear..."Communication" as being one of the predominant red flags.
The challenge is to turn down the fire hose that the staff drink from and dial it back to core-ops. Keep it simple! Floor operations! What are your bill times off the bar and out of the kitchen? What does the quality look/taste like? Are servers executing their "Steps of service"? Are managers "Present" through the shift, physically and mentally. Are you staffed accordingly? Did you forecast a schedule? Do you have enough product? Did you order map with running pars? Are systems in place so you are "revenue ready"? and so many more spinning plates!!! Hence the challenge and love of the game.
So one question. How do we keep everyone aligned and focused and pointed in the same direction? Via communication of expectations and vision. Well....I found something that will help!
Literal gamechanger!!! Many years ago I used a "version" of this, not quite as evolved as this one. This keeps the team on point and in this climate the team means everything! Enjoy :)

Okay but like, Roy and Jamie weren’t exactly subtle about loathing each other, were they? They fought each other on the pitch and badmouthed each other on TV, none of that keep it quiet for the sake of the team shit for these extra boys, yeah? My point is, anyone who knows anything about English football knows that Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt used to hate each other, right?
So obviously, at some point, during some press conference or post game interview, someone needs to bring this fact up. Maybe it’s as early as after the 2x06 match, because Ted might well have insisted Roy and Jamie be the ones to front that, both because it was them that won that game and because he figures it’ll promote ~their bond~ or some such. Could be later too, after the headbutt/hug thing, or later still, once the pictures of Jamie and Roy’s early morning excursions start doing the rounds on social media.
Doesn’t matter much when, really, only that someone – maybe from the tabloids because they’re a vicious lot – would ask: “Roy, just weeks before you joined the Richmond coaching staff you said, and I quote, ‘Jamie Tartt is a muppet and I hope he dies of the incurable condition of being a little bitch’. Today you described him as the most important player on the field. What has changed?”
And maybe the room goes a bit quiet at that, oooh he fucking went there, and what the hell is going to happen now, but Jamie only cocks his head to the side, making a face but looking at Roy all amused like. “You said that about me? That hurts me feelings, Coach.”
And Roy rolls his eyes, exasperated but in too good a mood after the win to be really annoyed. “Yeah, well, as it turns out the condition was only mostly incurable, wasn’t it?”
And Jamie goes aaaw and the press goes um okay and it doesn’t really explain anything, only adds to the ever-evolving legend of what the fuck is up with Roy Kent and Jamie Tartt.

Not enough stories of MJ, Gwen, and Harry getting attacked at the same time/around the same time
Gwen because this is after her father’s death and the villain going after her is thinking wouldn’t it just really fuck with Spidey if he was essentially “responsible” for the death of both of the Stacy’s?
Harry because maybe he knows that Spidey, for whatever reason, means a lot to his friend, so he’s given out statements opposing his father, so the villain going after him is like it’s gonna fuck with Spidey that somebody who openly supports him gets attacked
Then MJ because maybe for the same reason as Harry, maybe because there’s rumors that her and Spidey are dating, maybe they were going after her photographer (Peter) but couldn’t find him so they just said screw it grab the famous person, maybe Spidey’s a fan and this’ll still affect him
Either way, all 3 of them get kidnapped and put in near death situations, but he saves them, he saves all of them, and they get carted away, and then he’s called away because the villains are all attacking still, so he spends the rest of the day doing really stressful, live-saving stuff, like rescuing a bus full of children, holding train tracks together and letting the train run over his back to save everyone inside of it, etc etc etc
So the day finally ends, he’s in emotional and physical shambles, barely holding himself up, but before he can let himself rest, he needs to check on his friends (who don’t know he’s Spidey, don’t know he feels guilty for all them getting attacked, but thankfully don’t blame him for not coming earlier because they weren’t allowed visitors earlier)
But he has to figure out who to visit first: Gwen, who he found out dies in a lot of other universes so she might be in the worst condition, Harry, his best friend who wouldn’t have any other visitors (other than Norman trying to convince him this is all Spidey’s fault) and gets hurt when he feels Peter doesn’t prioritize him, or MJ, who he’s been flaking on as Peter Parker to be Spiderman (even more guilt if it’s the version where the villain was after him, but he wasn’t there)
(Also it’s definitely gonna get out whoever gets visited first because there’s no way he can make to the second person before the first person realizes what terrible shape he’s in and calls over the medical staff)
