Rings of Power a flop!
Nielsen has reporting streaming numbers for 2022 and it looks like Rings of Power didn't have much of an impact. It didn't make the top 15 of overall programs.
It came in at number 15 for original programs. It wasn't even the most watched Prime Video show as that went to The Boys.
As a comparison, let's look at the Netflix show Wednesday. Rings of Power premiered Sep 1st (or 2nd depending on your time zone/country) and Wednesday was released on Nov 23, almost two months later. They both had 8 episodes. Wednesday episodes range from 45 to 57 minutes (total season length: 390 mins) and Rings of Power range from 65 to 72 mins (total season length: 557 mins).
Wednesday had double the number of minutes streamed than Rings of Power (18.6 billion to 9.4 billion respectively). To get a rough idea of how many people actually watched these shows (just for comparison sake), I took the total number of minutes streamed divided by the total number of minutes for the whole season. This assumes one person watched all episodes all the way through for both shows. That makes 16,876,122 people who watched Rings of Power and 47,692,308 who watched Wednesday.
This is no knock against Wednesday/Addams Family (I liked the original show) but you're telling me that people were more excited to watch (and watched more often), a story about a character from an old TV show than to watch a show about the world/characters created by one of the best selling and most beloved fiction authors in history? That's pathetic Amazon and they deserve nothing but continued derision and criticism from Tolkien fans.

As you probably already know, a lot of grown (probably mostly middle-aged white) adults have been throwing fits online over the fact that the new Ariel in the Little Mermaid remake is a black girl now. And as you'd expect there were countless memes about it on twitter & other platforms, some pretty funny , others extremely racist, and some that are somewhere in between.
I know you don't care about Disney remakes in general and you won't even bother watching this one, but I still kinda want to know your thoughts on all this (frankly expected but still pointless) backlash. If you have anything you wanna say. If not, that's okay, feel free to ignore this.
I mean, as a redhead myself, I do have to wonder why it's always the red hair characters who get race swapped. Why wasn't it Belle, or Jasmine, or Aurora? Then I remember that I don't care 😅
A Wrinkle In Time (which I honestly loved, and thought it was an excellent remake) is a great example of that. Mrs. Murray and Calvin were both brunette, and Sandy and Dennys simply didn't exist. So a book where half the characters (not even counting Meg, who grew up to have auburn hair) had red hair was made into a movie where none of them did. At the same time, I've never been disappointed to see Gugu Mbatha-Raw in a role ❤️ XD
As for the backlash, I think it's a little silly to go about it that way. Disney doesn't care what you tweet, but I also think they're counting on the controversy, and if you don't provide it, they'll make it up. They did the same thing over Star Wars. If you're that upset about something they're making, don't give them ratings or money. Ignore them. Support things you like, and don't support things you don't like. This movie was going to suck regardless of who they cast, but at least it sounds like this girl unlike Emma Watson can actually sing.

All the money Amazon spent and this was the best they could do for the elven rings in Rings of Power? They look like the cheap rings you might get out of a gumball machine. This whole thing was just so amateur.
