Words cannot describe how much I would have loved to see an episode that is just the Coven Heads interacting sometime before or in season 1 but also Raine is already there. Think about it. Between Lilith and Kikimora at least hating each other subtly, Lilith and Hunter hating each other probably a bit more openly, everyone bullying Hunter, Eber being a pure chaos gremlin, Darius and Adrien trying to out-class the other and just being general divas, the awkwardness that would be Lilith and Raine interacting "Hi Raine I didn't expect you to clean up your life and become a Coven Head good job" "Hey Lilith I heard you're trying to arrest my Ex who is also your beloved sister how is that working out for you" coupled with the doubled "Ugh this is worse than having class with Darius in school". But also Raine, Darius and Eber are each seperately plotting how to kill the other people present (but like, not even for personal reasons, which is rare in this room, everyone else is also very much plotting murder, they're just more petty) and fishing for weaknesses, while Raine is now working alongside that one weird old lady that tried to poison them and their classmates in middle school - what was that even about - and all that is guest starred by Emperor "has been planning to kill everyone in this room and their loved ones since before he first laid eyes on them and is just biding his time... any... day. now." Belos trying to keep this herd of cats in line that are one sick insult away from clawing each other's eyes out. And that does not even include literally four more unnamed Coven Heads who are stastically speaking at least as quirky as the aformentioned bunch of people and just. How is this government still functioning. How do these people get anything done. I'm 98% convinced the Emperor's Coven has a Head aside from Belos so he can avoid interacting with these weirdos as much as possible. And who can blame him. Three of them are probably having an affair with each other. He isn't sure if Eberwolf can speak, they've certainly never done more than growl in his presence. The closest he came to ever regretting his 400 year old 2743 step plan to erradicate all life on the Isles was when he had to sit in an 8-hour meeting over major budgeting decisions effecting all Covens. Lilith actually did throw punch. The punch was Kikimora. Into Adrien's face. Belos likes Terra the best in theory but in practise he's very close to making her eat vine every time she makes a stupid plant pun. She's been working for him for over twenty years. He's heard them all in the first week, and new material apparently does not grow on trees (pun very much not intended).

On the other side of the globe, a man named Samuel Verner was preparing exhibits for the 1904 World's Fair. The fair's organizers wanted to do an exhibit showing the progress of mankind “from the dark prime to the highest enlightenment, from savagery to civic organisation" He was given a hefty budget to collect living "specimens" of people from Africa to represent the "savage depths" from which mankind had sprung. The experience of young African men at the 'fair' aka Human Zoo, was not a pleasant one. Billed as cannibals, they shook spears at the crowd and grimaced with their filed teeth, modeling their "war dances" Verner sent Ota to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. In 1906, Verner found a new home for Ota: The Bronx Zoo. Ota was put as an "exhibit" A plaque was erected, describing him in the same way an animal would be described and put into a cage in the monkey house. also imo the increasing budget of the show has really worked against it on this front because even though UNIT is supposed to be kind of a big deal in classic who they come off as a very underresourced and slapdash organization because real-life budget limitations and production concerns meant that UNIT was always moving its headquarters between a bunch of nondescript offices and warehouses and that one country house and felt like it consisted of like five guys. imo the more the show has to spend on tanks and explosions and soldier extras and a big avengers tower set the less narratively sympathetic UNIT gets because they no longer come across as plucky alien hunters but as, yknow, The Army.

Ahsoka had been loved, cherished as a little sibling.

She'd dealt with a rash of over protective brothers, that despite their physical circumstances managed to hit all the awkward preteen sibling experiences. Like giving her stern lectures on boys. Cheering on her first crush. Being generally awkward about puberty. And stuttering around obvious sex jokes they wanted to make so bad, but couldn't because she was there.

She'd been the kid sister, in all the little mundane ways that made their relationships rich, that swelled her heart with affection.

But she'd been more than that too. She had to be. Through whatever cruel circumstances, men that would slap their hands over a chatty brother's mouth to keep him from making a dick joke in front of her would also bow to her order. She held their lives in her hands. It was a concept she never truly wrapped her head around. And maybe never would. But it was a responsibility that she took very seriously.

First on the battlefield doing every damn thing she could to keep them alive. Then in front of the senate and al over the holoweb and anywhere she could get people to listen to her; To listen to them. Then briefly in the war again. And now, now she was the shepherd leading them into the galaxy. Not as soldiers but as free men.

Ahsoka was responsible for the clones in a way that many of them did not comprehend. They still believed that she was their kid sister. Little 'soka, come to play house with them while they all figured out how to live. And she allowed them to think that. She enjoyed it. Needed it even. Needed them to believe that they were taking care of her and not the other way around. Needed them to feel useful. Needed them to not feel indebted towards her. Not like some of the clones did.

Dogma, Rex, Cody, Tup. Too many brothers still looked to her with gratitude in their eyes. With a knee jerk response to do whatever she commended of them.

She didn't want that. She wanted them to figure out on their own how to be men. men who ran their own live. Who made their own calls.

But that didn't release Ahsoka of her responsibility. She may have left the public advocation for clones in more trained hands, Like Senators Chuchi and Amidala. Or the Jedi council. Or the new Mandalorian government. But Ahsoka handled the nity grity. the detail work. Ahsoka taught them as individuals, how to budget, how to pay bills, how to travel without GAR resources. All things she'd had to learn on her own.

She has a unique perspective living amongst men who were simultaneously much older and much younger than her.

Or, at least, she'd thought it was a unique experience.

When Echo turned up, he brought company. And lots of it. Clone force 99 were some of the roughest men she'd seen outside of the outer rim. Certainly rougher around the edges than any clone she'd ever worked with.

They were pleasant enough. Just strange for clones. Wrecker was a trendous help to have during the building process of the little compound they were putting together. As was Hunter. He was an excellent leader. He was deffinitly no Clone Commander. Every CC that Ahsoka had worked with had the same bow to bow acknowledgement of Ahsoka. Recognizing her rank and trusting her intuition. Hunter had no such inclinations.

It was actually refreshing. He argued with her more than anyone else did. Never hostile arguments. They were all civil. He as just a particular man with many opinions about how she was running just about any aspect of the compound. He argued with her the same as he would with any other clone. He broke the seal on making crude jokes in front of her. And was generally a pushy crass soldier in her presence.

And the compound benefited from it.

CF99 didn't strike her as the kind of solders who were ready to settle down yet. They still had that itch under their skins to get out there and do somthing. Anything.

She hadn't expected them to make any real effort to stick around until she met the reason that they did.

Omega was just the most perfect ray of sunshine that Ahsoka had ever met. She was kind, resilient, and optimistic. Even in the face of her most brazen and unlikable brother, Crosshair.

In a sea of brothers Ahsoka found herself a sister. She blames the little blonde girl for how Hunter puts up with Ahsoka's presence. Ahsoka and Omega clicked in that primal almost telepathic way that young girls do. Like magnets drawn to each other and disrupting the electromagnetic fields around them, bringing something young and untamed out of Ahsoka who at barely 18 often felt old.

They were close, which is why it didn't take Ahsoka long to recognize a pattern she wasn't aware even existed in anyone else, or ever could.

Despite her physical age Omega had a lot of authority with her brothers. They were quick to do almost anything she asked of them. Like a herd of new parents scrambling to keep their child happy. Many children would have become spoiled on the attention. Getting anything they wanted out of their guardians. But not Omega. With her big heart and her many years more life experience than her brothers. She used to her influence to take care of them.

To lure them to sleep with bleary eyed stories of bad dreams. Or forcing a decent eating schedule on them by insisting on having one for herself and making everyone else join her. Or railing in their wandering spirits with games, and challenges, and new emotional frontiers instead of the endless expanse of the galaxy. Or smoothing over their arguments with a subtlety that Ahsoka admired.

She was wise far beyond her years, and as much as she could twist her face into the bright eyed gleam of innocence Ahsoka often caught her looking contemplative and nurturing as she studied her brother. She ruled their lives with a gentle care almost motherly.

Another little big sister dedicating herself to keeping her brothers alive and together.

It was the only way Ahsoka could live her life after the war. And it seemed whatever happened in the labs on Kamino had the same effect of Omega.

She opened her heart to her little sister. Made a space where they could exist, exactly as they were. Kindred spirits in the galaxy. Living for love and learning to love living again. That dimming of something old and wizened in their eyes slowly transformed from something painful to something contented.

As they played their roles of kid sisters and eldest siblings.

I hate hate HATE the fact that putin probably has this shit eating grin on his face w all this denial of ukraine aide. I know there are a couple of other packages where congress can piecemeal it in the future but still. Fuck!!!!!!!! HOW is it all so obvious AND so badly done by the Rs lol

It just illustrates the extent to which the GOP has become the Group of Putin on pretty much every level. There are many reasons for this and they are all equally important to understand:

They love Putin anyway because of all the pro-Trump election interference in 2016, and they're hanging their hat on it being just enough to squeak Trump back in for 2024.

They hate Ukraine to start with because a) it was the cause of Trump's first impeachment (the failed extortion of Zelenskyy) and b) it's central to their current flailing and failing attempts to portray Biden as doing some kind of crime in Hunter's business interests there (in Burisma).

They also loathe the idea of democracy in general and think autocrats, especially their buddy Putin, should have the right to do whatever they want, as well as subscribing to the isolationist America Only xenophobia that was also prevalent in the late 1930s right before WWII. So any noble appeals to maintain Ukraine's democracy and freedom hold no water with them, when they're busy trying to destroy those things here in America as well.

They're heavily influenced by Russian dark money and Russian propaganda, which is part of the larger nexus of Russian influence that operates within and enables the European and American far-right in a creating an anti-Western illiberal fascist theocratic far-right global coalition. If you're interested in this topic, I recommend this (excellent but extremely depressing) book.

As such, yes, the growing anti-Ukraine sentiment in the Treason Caucus is giving plenty of unfortunate credence to Putin's hypothesis that if he can just hang on in Ukraine until 2024, the Republicans will get elected/into full power and instantly be able to cancel all US support for Ukraine. Which they would probably do, and which would be an unmitigated calamity for Ukraine, America, and the world, because that's how the Group of Putin likes to roll.

The Kremlin talking heads are thrilled about this entire development, because obviously of course they are.

The budget resolution to keep the government open for the next 45 days doesn't directly affect aid to Ukraine -- at least for now. The previously agreed-upon financial and military assistance will continue to be paid out, and since a new package will have to be negotiated soon anyway, it's highly likely that Ukraine aid will be included either in that one or a separate bill beforehand.

The Senate Republicans, aside from the usual suspects, are generally supportive of aid to Ukraine. To give -- choke, ugh, wheeze -- Mitch Fucking McConnell 0.2% of credit, he has consistently held the old-fashioned anti-Russia pro-Ukraine line against the crass Putin-smoochin' of his comrades, and made sure to appear jointly with Schumer during Zelenskyy's recent visit to DC. However, he is toadstool slime who may well attempt to price in Ukraine support by trying to cut other American domestic programs or Biden accomplishments. So. Mixed bag.

Lindsey Graham, of all people, has also emerged as a high-profile Senate GOP voice for Ukraine support. However, he is a spineless paramecium who will ultimately do whatever Trump tells him, so let's likewise not put too much faith in that.

Biden has already issued a firm statement insisting that US aid can't be disrupted in any circumstances, and there has been a bipartisan Senate statement as well. So there is existing pressure to get a new package done quickly, and an extra $300 million funding for Ukraine (a resolution, however, not a binding legislation) was approved with 300+ votes in the House just a few days ago. So there is still the ability to do it.

The main question is Kevin Fucking McCarthy. He has issued tepid and conditional statements of support for Ukraine (with the usual "we should be spending this money on our southern border!!!" Republican bullshit) and is under pressure to put a new funding bill on the floor quickly, but since the crazies oppose it and also him, he could easily be his usual brand of spineless and delay doing so. He may also try to strip Ukraine aid out of the next full-year budget resolution, which is already going to be enough of a clusterfuck, but he's going to face far more opposition from Democrats who voted for the 45-day funding package to keep the government open for now, but won't accept anything long-term without money for Ukraine.

Anyway. Republicans the worst, McCarthy sucks, Putin sucks, film at 11.

Living with Darius after Belos is defeated, Hunter slowly learns it's okay to ask for stuff. Sometimes it doesn't go as he would like.

One time, he asks Darius if he can borrow ten snails for something and Darius says "sure!" At the time, Darius is too busy or too lazy to grab his wallet, so he tells Hunter where it is and allows him to get the snails himself.

Hunter goes to find his dad's wallet as instructed, but he gets nervous and anxious once he picks it up. Even though Darius gave him permission, taking out the snails himself makes him feel like he's stealing from his dad and feel all sorts of bad.

To calm himself down, he needs to take the whole wallet back to his dad and have him pull out the snails instead.

Even having Darius' permission, Hunter is just not used to simply taking things for himself, especially when it's something such as money because it's not like he's going to be grabbing that and then giving it back immediately like he would with other things he has gotten the courage to ask Darius if he can borrow before.

The brief thought of finding a temporal job or something of the sort to pay Darius back does pass through his head, but ultimately, it feels best not to be presumptuous and just go to Darius because what if he didn't hear Hunter asked for ten snails and that ruins his budget for the week or something? Granted, it's not a lot of money but who knows... maybe it's better if Darius checks himself so he can determine in the end if he wants to let him borrow that money or not.

Darius is very confused when he sees Hunter bringing him the whole wallet but seeing how anxious he looks, he just asks him if everything is alright as he gets the snails out for him. Hunter probably is also like "I know I asked for ten snails, but it's fine if you can't give me all of those, I know I'm asking for a lot, and really, I can figure it out myself, you don't have to do anything-" before Darius cuts him off and just hands them to him.

It's not hard to guess where this is coming from, it's in part that Hunter isn't used to being allowed to want things and then ask for them, but it takes a while for him to be comfortable grabbing anything in the house in the first place. It's very much his house now, but Hunter was used to kinda feeling like an intruder even back at the castle, his room being the only place that was truly his and now...

Well. It's all very new. Even in his room sometimes he feels like he's disturbing it just by being there.

Darius does his best to encourage him, acting naturally when he asks Hunter to bring a plate or grab this or that from the kitchen or the bathroom or wherever, because Hunter sort of needs that "practice" so it feels natural for him to just do things like that without awaiting for permission every single time, which Darius notices quickly he does at first, not doing so much as grabbing a glass of water if he hasn't been told he's allowed to use this or that glass.

It helps that Darius gets him some things so they feel like specifically his own, but he still needs to get comfortable with everything so he doesn't continue feeling sort of like a guest in someone else's house.

All of that can't be solved by just acting casual and giving Hunter gifts every so often either, because then Hunter will think he just has to accept what he's being given and that it's selfish to ask for more. Darius figures out teasing him lightly helps; he's not mean, just playful, and it does make Hunter see that perhaps it's silly to worry about being perceived as selfish and greedy when to Darius it's such a small thing.

It takes time, but Darius is very patient.

Like, say she and the rest of her family learn about Lord Featheringtons debts before the beginning of her first season. Her mother has startered to sell some things off discretly to attempt to at least start paying off the debt. It sends her into a realization that if she plans to survive she's gonna need money. Her future husband is gonna need money.

So she starts investigating the potential bachelors and what their yearly salary is. Any rumors or gossip that any of the bachelors are looking for marriages of convience. Any suitor with debts is strictly crossed off her list.

This list is also how Whistledown got started. Her father's solicter had read it over and, with a laugh, said she should consider publishing. Penelope didn't go for it at first, until the solicter said she could make some good money off it. That got Penelope's attention. She could make some money? Off her writings about gossip? Well, it is nice to have a backup plan. Her father already proved to her that he's unreliable, and God only knows if he gambled away her dowery. She is also already gathering gossip for her investigations for suitors. Would be wasteful if she didn't do something with the other gossip she collects.

So she published Lady Whistledown, and the success from it makes a very nice cushion should she need it. Her work as Whistledown and the network she's building from it also really help in her investigations.

Now, don't get Penelope wrong she's very upfront that she's looking for a man with money. That she'll marry for convince. Her ideal future husband should have the salary of a Viscount or an Earl. She can make do with a Baron's salary as that is what she grew up with, but she would like some extra room in the budget just in case.

Penelope will also not lie to herself and say that her feelings for Colin disappeared. But this is about her survival, she knows he won't marry her so she needs to put that childish fantasy to rest.

Portia has also began using Penelope's new habit of investigating suitors to the advantage of the family. Like when Mr. Finch came to call on Philippa. Portia waver Penelope over and asked her to find out what she can about him.

The Bridgertons think Penelope is insane for her fortune hunting. Does she not want a love match? Money is all good and well, but what about your emotional needs, darling? Penelope can not say that her father's debts leave her no choice. Her mama gave strict orders that their debts stay in the house. Violet and Anthony have their suspicions, though. Fortune hunters often have a reason.

Colin is very worried for his friend. They have had talks before of finding their purpose. Surley this isn't what Penelope meant of finding her purpose beyond her mother and family. There has to be something more going on with her.

Upon going over his finances, and investments (something Anthony forced on him and Benedict and will force on Gregory in the future. Their sisters spared that they have the knowledge of it but arent forced to do it) Colin discovered something.

The Bridgertons had always been more well off due to Anthony's diligence over business deals and investments. Their family had a salary higher that a normal Viscount family. Anthony's salary was probably closer to Simon's than other viscounts. Colin's personal salary and fortune? It was on par with the average Earl's.

Colin's yearly salary fell into the range Penelope was looking for. He technically was a possible marriage candidate for her. Didn't his mother always say you should marry your dearest friend?

Been thinking a lot lately about TOH kids and the idea that, after they reach adulthood, Luz, Amity, Willow, Gus, and Hunter all decide to live together in one big house. Not as roommates, or a temporary thing until everyone starts marrying off, but REALLY living together, as a family. Because 1.) they find out while living with Camila that they all enjoy living together 2.) it's easier to split chores and bills between five people. 3.) meals are warmer and more engaging when you're eating with people you enjoy talking to, and 4.) fuck you, 'nuclear family models.'

Luz is the best cook in the whole house, whenever she isn't inspired to try and throw crazy things together because she's overcome with the urge to 'experiment.' Willow maintains the yard and a garden, where she grows most of the food they eat. Amity tends to take care of fixing things that break or putting things together when they're in pieces. Hunter is good about handling the money/budgeting and keeping track of everyone's schedules for planning purposes, while Gus is a master of style and helps keep the house clean and well decorated. It's a lively, but surprisingly effective living arrangement for everyone, even if all of their neighbors refer to their home as "The Mad House."
