First Sentence(s) Game
Thank you for the tags @khorazir and @discordantwords - you’re both delicious!
Rules: share the first lines of ten of your most recent fanfics and tag ten people. If you have written less than ten, don’t be shy and share anyway.
Only Yesterday   On nights like these John walks.
This Time    Sherlock spots him immediately - new jacket, barely touched tea, has been running his hands through his recently trimmed hair.
Camels, Straws and Backs   "Sherlock!" John is usually very aware of Mrs H living below them - it must be hard for her, and he and Sherlock should really be paying her a lot more than they are for the kind of crap that they put her through on a weekly basis.
Love Like Ours   He’d already been on his way to the tube station when he realised he’d forgotten his blind date’s number. Molly had written it on a torn off corner of a lab chart for him, so John had trudged all the way back and been upstairs looking through the pockets of his other jeans when he heard them come in.
The Gag Gift Recurrence    John Watson is too old for Valentines - he's a grown man, for goodness sake -  a doctor, and a war veteran. The bathroom scales tell him he should not have chocolates, he has no need for overpriced roses and he's never, ever seen a heart-laden greetings card that hasn't made him feel either faintly nauseous or horribly patronised.
The Happily Ever After Hypothesis     John? Where are you? SH
Smiling to himself, John wonders when exasperation and sporadic, demanding text messages became what love means to him.
If There Were Any Time For A Miracle        "Sherlock?" John pops his head around the bedroom door and finds the madman half-dressed and investigating the silvering on the back of his (probably) antique mirror with a manicure set. The strangest thing about this is that John doesn't find it strange at all. Not anymore.
Chances Are      At first it’s blinding light and a wall of pressure, like being lifted and shoved aside by a massive, invisible hand. In an instant the heat registers: suffocating, rolling and fierce, it scrubs at his flesh and roars in his ears with a stabbing pain that doesn’t recede
.Dunk Drialing    “The think… thinking…  thing … is…”
Sherlock pulls the phone away from his ear and checks the name on the caller ID again. No, no mistake. He would not have picked up the call if it hadn’t been for John’s name – he prefers to text.
“John? Are you alright?”
“Wha? Oh, yeah, yeah, I’m good thanks.” There’s a short pause. “How are you?”
The House on Rue des Boulangers    “I could have sworn it was on here,” Mme Hudson mutters for the third time. She peers at the offending collection of keys in the light from John’s phone and tuts.
Lots of people already tagged, so I’m tagging anyone who wants to play who hasn’t already - PLEASE come and show us what you’ve got.

Favorite Sherlock Holmes fics from 2020
Usually I put a bunch of explanations and disclaimers on these lists but you know what, it was a weird year and I’m not going to try to justify or apologize for what I read or didn’t read so here are my favorites that were completed last year, in descending order of length:
and your very flesh shall be a great poem by CaitlinFairchild (151K, E, Johnlock) After a tragic confrontation with terrible consequences, Sherlock and John follow Mary as she flees to America.
Drawn to Stars by Silvergirl (107K, E, Johnlock, Sherlock/OMC) After the Culverton Smith case Sherlock is clean, working, and looking for a romantic partner—since John has told him that’s what he needs. Shame John didn’t mention he was interested in that role himself, before Sherlock went off to Rome with a gorgeous Italian copper to try to fall in love and become a complete human being. (This one is very slightly cheating because it was finished on 30 Dec 2019, but it didn't make it onto my 2019 list because I didn't read it until after I'd made the list. And it deserves to be on a Best Of list, so here it is.)
Thermocline by J_Baillier (83K, M, Johnlock) John "Five Oceans" Watson — technical dive instructor, dive accident analyst and weapon of mass seduction — meets recluse professor of maritime archaeology Holmes. As they head out to a remote archipelago off the coast of Guatemala to study and film its shipwrecks for a documentary, will sparks fly or fizzle out?
Do No Harm by Calais_Reno (79K, T, Johnlock) In 1923, Dr John Watson is on trial for the murder of his lover, Mary Morstan, a writer of popular mysteries. If convicted, he will hang. Sherlock Holmes sets out to prove his innocence, but finds himself more and more infatuated with the handsome doctor, and deeper and deeper inside the bohemian world of London's painters, playwrights, and poets. Will he uncover the evidence needed to acquit him in time?
To Be Human by ohlooktheresabee (78K, NR, Johnlock) There is a serial killer on the loose with a penchant for collecting the brains of his victims. Sherlock, John and Scotland Yard are on the case, but something about the chosen victims has Sherlock on edge. While they piece together the clues that will lead to the killer, John begins to realize that the way his best friend thinks may sometimes be more a hindrance than a help….
immediate and inglorious by simplyclockwork (72K, E, Johnlock) Bodies are showing up in back alleys, with no sign of a struggle, no trace of drugs. If not for the strangulation bruises on their necks and the scythe carved into their left shoulders, they could have died peacefully, in their sleep. With New Scotland Yard dumbfounded by the Grim Reaper Killer case, Sherlock is called in to consult. The more he investigates, the deeper Sherlock finds himself drawn into the work of London's newest serial killer. As his views of good and bad begin to blur, he risks losing himself to a darkness he never imagined. And, even more pressing: where does John Watson, grieving ex-boyfriend of the Grim Reaper's latest victim, fit into all of this?
Curtain Rising by tiger_in_the_flightdeck (61K, E, Johnlock) A disgraced television star is the target of a series of death threats just after a theatre production’s adaptation of The Sound of Music is announced with her as the lead. The suspect list is a mile long and growing, Rosie Watson is in the spotlight, and Sherlock might be getting too fond of his time on stage to focus on the case. With opening night approaching, can he and John figure out who wants their client dead before her final curtain rises?
The Fire Finds a Home by fearfully_beautifully_made (61K, E, Johnlock) After Sherlock and John decide to give having a relationship a go, this is how their relationship starts to develop. There a little bit of plot, if you squint, but it was mostly an excuse to write John and Sherlock having sex in a lot of different ways and learning to love each other.
Borrowed Ghosts by DiscordantWords (57K, M, Johnlock) In the aftermath of the Culverton Smith case, John spent one painfully stilted afternoon hanging out with Sherlock. He counted the minutes, finished his tea, and left for home without ever clearing the air between them. And once he'd left, he found it very hard to go back.
You Might Just as Well Be Blind by ArwaMachine (56K, E, Johnlock) When a serial killer starts targeting couples, Sherlock and John must do what they have to do in order to get to the bottom of things. Unfortunately, John already has a girlfriend. Surely pretending to be in a relationship with Sherlock won't pose any problems with his relationship, will it?
The Broken Tether by J_Baillier (54K, M, Johnlock) Maybe he thinks that you only enjoy his company because of the Work, because of the way his dazzling intellect shines when he's in his element, but the truth is this: it is when he is at his most human, most bare, that you feel closest to him.
how the light gets in by subtext-is-my-division (Quill_A)  (54K, E, Johnlock) Red wine always makes him tipsier than usual and he finds himself saying, the words slurring a bit. “You know, I’ve got to ask. Do you always shoot cabbies for people you barely you know?” John meets his gaze over the rim of his glass, and there’s something there that Sherlock can’t pin down. “Not for everyone,” he says, meaningfully, pointedly, his smile all teeth.
Erosion by saintscully (53K, E, Johnlock) Sherlock’s father falls ill, leaving the surviving family members broken and rudderless. James Sholto shows up in London unexpectedly, his intentions unclear. John has to navigate the consequences of crime, illness and death and their impact on his frayed relationship with Sherlock.
Hold You Like a Weapon by MissDavis (52K, E, Johnlock) Eurus shows up at 221B Baker Street in labour. Things go downhill from there.
Chances Are by Berty (51K, M, Johnlock) Sherlock is spending some time in his mind palace - so far, so normal. But why is John there, why do things keep changing and why are there only two exits from the sitting room at 221B, neither of which seem to go anywhere useful? It's a case like no other for Sherlock Holmes and John Watson.
Sine Nomine by SilentAuror (45K, E, Johnlock) As Mycroft reviews the footage from Culverton Smith's morgue, he revisits his original question: whether John Watson would be the making of his brother, or make him worse than ever. He's come to a conclusion, but decides to give John one last chance. So he gives him a choice.
Cockaigne by HollyShadow88 (38K, E, Johnlock) When John’s contacted by an old uni friend about problems in his new art exhibition, he doesn’t think it will be worth Sherlock’s time. After a glance of the crime scene, however, they’re both pulled into the project in ways John didn’t expect. Will a week of erotic performance art finally be enough to bring them together in the way they both secretly hope? (Spoiler: it’s a tropey fic, of course it will)
Written in Ashes by 88thParallel (37K, M, Johnlock) Sherlock becomes the prime suspect in a homicide case, and recently unearthed memories of his childhood are complicating matters. It's up to John to track down answers — can he help Sherlock before it's too late?
A Desperate Indulgence by LollipopCop (34K, M, Johnlock) John thinks it's 2012 after waking up with amnesia, having no memory of Mary. Sherlock, exhausted from years of tension and hiding his love, pretends they got married instead.
Inhale With Ease by Vulpesmellifera (25K, E, Johnlock) In the years after Vivian Norbury's capture, life seems to work out just as John planned. He's got that respectable job at the surgery and goes home to his wife and child. He joins Sherlock on cases a couple times per week. It's a rhythm he can live with - just enough adrenaline highs to balance out the drudgery of a normal bloke's life. Until a pandemic, and Victor Trevor, arrive in London.
The House on Rue des Boulangers by Berty (24K, M, Johnlock) After being invalided out of the army and without any other prospects, John Watson has relocated to a small town in northern France. Now he has to decide what to do for the rest of his life. One morning there's a mad stranger in his garden chasing a swarm of bees, and it seems John's decision is made.
High Mountain Tea Leaves by disfictional (23K, E, Johnlock) A mountaintop robbery on a Japanese-occupation-era train where the only item stolen was a small case of mysterious tea leaves in a backpack? An ideal Christmas gift, two days late. Sherlock convinces John to travel for tea.
Detours by saintscully (22K, M, Johnlock, Sherlock/OMC) During the better part of the first year following Mary's death and the events at Sherrinford, Sherlock and John are slowly rebuilding their lives and their friendship. All seems (relatively) well and John takes comfort in once again being a father, a doctor and a friend. An unexplained shift in Sherlock's behaviour catches John by surprise, and he begins to worry about his place in his friend's life. John has to examine everything he thought he knew about Sherlock, himself and their relationship in order to win his rightful place yet again.
hands full of matter by simplyclockwork (21K, E, Johnlock) When Sherlock is captured in Serbia, Mycroft cannot afford to involve the British government in his rescue. Instead, he sends John. After two years spent thinking Sherlock was dead, John finds himself navigating not only Sherlock’s rescue but their fractured friendship as well.
The Victim Experience by J_Baillier (16K, T, Gen) A case takes Sherlock and John deep into the seedy underbelly of the haunted attractions industry. With audiences craving more and more intense experiences, is a real murder the next logical step?
On the Fence by BeautifulFiction (13K, T, Johnlock) The murder of the King's College fencing champion leads to revelations about Sherlock's past. Will it be the point that tips them from friends to lovers, or will they remain on the fence?
Plus bonus ACD era:
"Baker Street: The Sleep of Reason": A Memoir by John H. Watson, M.D. by Gaedhal (98K, M, Johnlock, Johniarty) This is a Victorian Era story in the "Sherlock Holmes" (2009) Ritchie-verse. The main characters are Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson and is from the doctor's memoirs. It was written before "A Game of Shadows" so there are differences in this story and film canon, mainly in the person and backstory of one particular character.
The Taste of Truth by sanguinity (25K, T, Johnlock) Two and a half years after Reichenbach, John Watson discovers the magical tree that caused Holmes to fake his death.
The Adventure of the Vatican Cameos by Garonne (18K, E, Johnlock) How should one behave when waking for the first time in the bed of one's dearest friend? Holmes and Watson solve a case in Catholic London while navigating the turbid waters of their new relationship.
Hot Water by wordybirdy (13K, E, Johnlock, Watson/Gregson) Dr. John Watson's libidinous affair with a respected Scotland Yard inspector abruptly judders to a halt when the former meets a certain Mr. Sherlock Holmes, Consulting Detective, for the very first time. The attraction between the two is strongly mutual, but misunderstandings only multiply and tensions abound, as all three men attempt to deal with the new situation.

Time to vote!
Tumblr media
Hey everyone! Time to vote for which fic you’d like to read next! Please have your votes in by 11:59pm EST next Friday March 5 to ensure you get to vote.
Danger Night by Khorazir
According to folklore, the nights between Christmas and Twelfth Night are the most dangerous of the year. During them, the Wild Hunt rides, and ghosts and demons come out to haunt unsuspecting and misbehaving folk. An investigation of a series of strange occurrences leads John and Sherlock to Hay-on-Wye on the Welsh Marches, to face ghosts weird and ancient as well as close and personal – and perhaps to start the new year on a more hopeful note than the previous one.
The House on Rue Des Boulangers by Berty
After being invalided out of the army and without any other prospects, John Watson has relocated to a small town in northern France. Now he has to decide what to do for the rest of his life. One morning there's a mad stranger in his garden chasing a swarm of bees, and it seems John's decision is made.
The Science of Turophilia by involuntaryorange
John finally checks out the neighbourhood farmers' market, and discovers the advantages of shopping local.
Evening 6pm by SilverGirl
Six months after Sherlock jumped, he learns that John is dedicating songs to him on a requests-only radio programme. Is John just working through grief? Or is he—communicating? Fixes the hell out of S3 by pre-empting it altogether. Remember, as TAB told us, John is Pretty Damn Smart.

Dante's bi-weekly Johnlock fic recs // Week3
Hello! I'm back again with five fics. I was gonna post it yesterday but I was a bit busy so I'm posting now. Hope you'll read them and love them as much as I did. Feedbacks are always appreciated. Enjoy :)
Oh, also... you can check week 1 and week 2's recs if you want.
The House on Rue des Boulangers by Berty (M., 24299 w., 8 Ch., Alternate Universe-Different First Meeting, PTSD John, References to Depression, First Kiss, Beekeeper Sherlock, Suicidal Thoughts, Garden & Gardening, Angst and Fluff and Smut, Happy Ending) After being invalided out of the army and without any other prospects, John Watson has relocated to a small town in northern France. Now he has to decide what to do for the rest of his life. One morning there's a mad stranger in his garden chasing a swarm of bees, and it seems John's decision is made.
The Fall of Doctor John Watson by PaxEirene (ValaEnVash) (T., 13309 w., 9 Ch., Reverse Reichenbach, Grief/Mourning, Reunion, Implied/Referenced Suicide) What if it had been John that jumped/fell from the roof of St. Bart’s to save Sherlock, Lestrade, and Mrs. Hudson? Let's find out.
Chaperones by MissDavis (T., 34115 w., 7 Ch., Fake/Pretend Relationship, Sharing a Room, Sharing a Bed, Disney World, Parentlock, Friends to Lovers, Fluff, First Kiss) Right. Of course. Everyone assumed they were a couple and no one would question it. John put his elbows up on the table so he could rest his head in his hands. "You want to pretend to be a couple so we can chaperone a trip to Disney World with Rosie's class and you won't have to share a room with a stranger?" "Exactly." Sherlock beamed at him. "Don't worry about the cost. The Birmingham case last month paid more than enough to cover expenses for all three of us."
Sonnet by subtext-is-my-division (Quill_A) (E., 142096 w., 27 Ch., Teenlock, Fluff, Angst, Paternal Lestrade, Bullying, Homophobia, Attempted Sexual Assault, Explicit Sexual Content) Sherlock had spent a very long time feeling very, very lonely. He had never realised this, of course. Until John Watson came along into his life, and Sherlock realised there had been an empty space there that John had filled up perfectly.
A Quiet Murmuration by cathedral_carver (T., 4643 w., Kissing, Fluff, Sweet, Cuddling & Snuggling) "Just pay me back with one thousand kisses."

Geneva/France Day 4
I managed to combine a good half of my Geneva-centric itinerary into one day so I had time to spare. I decided to take advantage of the tour company I experienced Glacier 3000 with and take a day trip to Annecy, France. I picked up a chocolate croissant from the bakery around the corner of my hostel and headed back toward the Gare Routiere bus station. There were some delays and confusion while our bus of people waited in the tourism office waiting for our bus driver to arrive. During that time I met an older gentleman from China who was vacationing in Geneva by himself. He needed some help with translating so I became his unofficial buddy/translator for the remainder of the trip.
Annecy was only a short ride away, just under an hour. I still can’t believe how easy it is to hope from country to country here. When we got off the bus we were greeted with frigid morning air and a bright blue sky reflecting off the dazzling waters of Lake Annecy.
Tumblr media
Lake Annecy really is gorgeous no matter the time of year.
Our tour guide had a short walkthrough planned for us just to get us aquainted with the area. We started at Le Palais de I’lle, a small medieval castle and prison located right on the canal.
Tumblr media
They have a museum and you can explore the building but our tour guide recommended walking around the city instead.
From there we hiked up the hill toward the Château d'Annecy, a restored medieval castle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I opted to skip out on touring the castle since our time was limited. At this point the Chinese gentleman decided to tag along with me. We headed north/down the hill toward the houses to catch a view of the city.
Tumblr media
We then headed west until we met the crowds at the Annecy Vieux Quartier Flea Market. We were so fortunate to be visiting during this popular monthly event. Every street corner in the area was filled with vendors selling various antiques and trinkets. We eventually ended up in front of a small bakery called Le Boulanger Du Faubourg where I picked up some goodies.
Tumblr media
A Gruyere and hazelnut baguette. So bouncy but soft with the fatty nuttiness from the hazelnuts complementing the salty cheese so well. French bakeries are always something else.
From there my new friend and I just wandered north aimlessly until we felt the lively city vibe dissipating. We didn’t have a great idea of where to find out bus so we headed back East toward the lake.
Tumblr media
No clue where we were anymore but the streets were getting emptier and emptier so we sensed we should head back toward the crowds.
Eventually our wandering took us to Pont de Amours, a breathtaking footbridge with some of the most amazing views I’ve ever seen.
Tumblr media
A distanced view of the Pont de Amours.
The bridge connected us into the Jardins de l’Europe and here my friend and I decided to split ways and I headed off into the Annecy Christmas Market since I didn’t get my fill the day before. The market is a bit smaller than the one Montreux but there was still plenty to discover.
Tumblr media
Pommes Aligot and a cup of mulled wine. It truly feels like Christmas.
I wish I had more time to spend in the market but the bus was leaving soon so I scurried back to the lot and barely caught them as they headed out. Once we arrived back in Geneva I still had the rest of the night to finish the last few stops I wanted to visit. I started by heading toward Plainpalais which featured this intricate Frankenstein monster’s statue since the area was the setting of a portion of the the Frankenstein novel.
Tumblr media
The area is also known for hosting one of Switzerland’s largest flea market.
Tumblr media
I managed to the catch the tail end of the Saturday market but many of the booths were already packing up for the day.
From Planpalais I headed south along the water until I crossed the Bridge le Pont de Carouge. This led me into the Carouge/Little Italy area of the city. Although it was a Saturday this area was surprisingly quiet. The main area I planned to explore was around the Rue Saint-Joseph where there are several novelty shops. While I was there I was craving a little snack but so many things were closed down so I stopped by for a snack at a Wasabi Sushi chain.
Tumblr media
Geneva isn’t exactly a place for sushi but I was craving raw fish so badly.
And of course I still needed dessert and the famous Philippe Pascoët-Chocolate Pascoët Sàrl was just around the corner so I stopped in for a some treats.
Tumblr media
Chocolate Moelleux & Passionfruit Dark Chocolate
I spent the next couple hours just wandering the neighborhood as the sun began to set. I made my way down toward the Place Du Marche where there were trees filled with floral colored lights. It was beautiful but strangely eerie considering how quiet the area was.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Streets lined with lights and decorations but it was just so quiet.
I intended to head back to my hostel but took the wrong train and ended up towards the Les Grottes neighborhood. I decided to just walk back to my hostel. On the walk back I remembered the lack of proper restaurants in my area and I wanted a slightly more proper dinner for my final meal. I passed by a French restaurant called La Bagatelle and decided to give it a shot.
Tumblr media
Venison w/ Crispy Foie Gras, Spaetzle, Pumpkin Mash, Chestnut Puree, and Wine Cooked Pear. Not exactly a classic Swiss dinner but a very hearty and festive feeling meal.
After dinner I settled back in my hostel and packed up for my flight home the next day. But of course there was one last thing I had to try before bedtime...
Tumblr media
The absolutely gigantic face-sized chocolate meringue I purchased from the Annecy Bakery earlier in the day.

Slowly, a centimetre at a time, Sherlock leans forward, his body as stiff and awkward as John has ever seen it. At the last moment his eyes flutter closed and he finds John’s mouth with his own. Soft - achingly softly in a way John could not have anticipated, Sherlock kisses with a lifetime’s intensity poured into it, even in this simplest of physical connections. It is beautiful. Incandescent. Perfect.
And John doesn’t think he will ever need to breathe again.
All the bees, and all the love, in an utterly wonderful new fic.

author interview tag
I was tagged by @khorazir. Thank you so much, my dear!
Name: Berty
Fandoms: BBC Sherlock for fanfic. I used to write in Stargate SG-1, Stargate Atlantis and due South. There were also a couple of Torchwood, Slings and Arrows and Wilby Wonderful snippets as well as an Alexander/ Hephaestion one shot too!
Where you post: My fics are posted on AO3. I occasionally post on tumblr and twitter, but not often .I have a dreamwidth account too, also as berty, but that is mostly to keep up with friends from fandoms past!
Most popular multi-chapter fic: What The Heart Wants is my most popular story in Sherlock. It’s one chapter as I’m not a great fan of chapters but for the purists, Stradivarius is eight chapters and almost has as many hits as WTHW.
Favourite story you’ve written so far: Oh, ummmm, well in Sherlock it is probably The House on Rue des Boulangers. But I have a fondness for Non Linear System in Stargate Atlantis and Finding the Words in due South.
Fic you were nervous to post: Ha ha! All of them! But I guess What The Heart Wants for several reasons. It was my first stab at the Sherlock fandom, it was Sherlock’s POV which was hard, and it was supposed to be humour. Posting humour is always a gamble - I have a quirky sense of humour and it doesn’t always come across.
How you choose your titles: Oh, this is not my favourite thing to do. I sometimes take a line from the story and use that. Lyrics also get a share of the glory. Occasionally the title comes to me immediately as I begin to write, but rarely.
Do you outline: Sometimes. House on Rue des Boulangers , Chances Are and Those Who Dream Of The Sky were all outlined but others I will just hammer it out and see where it goes.
Complete: 23 Sherlock stories, 60+ Stargate SG-1 stories, 50 + due South stories plus extras. 166 works in total although many are one shots and shorts. Over 800,000 words posted on Ao3.
In progress: I have another Fit Of Fashion story half written and two Christmas fics on the go.
Coming soon/not yet started: I have a  load of ideas that may or may not ever see the light of day including a Dragon!Sherlock sequel, an Apollo 13-esque Sherlock fic, a GeniusLoci fic that may or may not be a Rivers of London crossover and an A-Z AU with alternate first meetings for Sherlock and John. It’s good to have options..
Do you accept prompts: I haven’t up to now, but it’s something I am considering. I don’t get a great deal of time to write, so my pace can be rather erratic and I would hate to disappoint someone.
Upcoming story you are most excited to write: The Apollo 13 story - this one will need a lot of research and an outline. I don’t want 1970s Sherlock and John, so I will need to bend some edges to make it all fit. And I really want to do it justice, so I’m kind of terrified to begin.
Upcoming story you are most excited about: Well, I love Christmas fics at any time of year, but one of the ones I have on the go now is turning out to be rather sweet - (hopefully) funny and a teensy bit angsty, it’s a very ‘me’ story. I want to say it will be ready in time, but it’s the 13th already and it needs many hours of work yet, so we will see.
I have no idea who has and hasn’t been tagged, but some of my faves are @totallysilvergirl, @agrlsname, @88thparallel, @elldotsee, @shiplocks-of-love, @jbaillier, @silentauroriamthereal

I want to start off by saying I LOVE looking at all the recs you give, and it sure helps pass the time! I was wondering if you knew any Johnlock recs where Sherlock helps John through PTSD or flashbacks of his time serving? Thanks again for everything you do on the blog!
Reply: Thank you very much, it’s nice to hear that the blog is useful.
I have a PTSD tag that you might want to look through, although it’s not always John who is suffering from it. From there, here are the ones I found that I think best fit what you are looking for:
Sherlock helps John with PTSD
A Christmas Soldier by Evenlodes_Friend (15K, E, Johnlock) John is unexpectedly invited to share Christmas with Sherlock’s family. But the seasonal celebrations bring back difficult memories for them both.  This is my attempt to understand something of the damage that binds these two men together, so angst, and hurt/comfort, but with a fluffy happy ending.
Be Here Now by todesfuge (94K, M, Johnlock) John Watson was already fighting demons when he and Sherlock met. With Sherlock's suicide, it all comes flooding back, forcing Sherlock to intervene before he's solved the persistent riddles of Jim Moriarty and his game. Together they find that something darker lurks behind Moriarty, forcing Sherlock, John, and Irene Adler into an even deadlier game with a much more dangerous foe.  Begins six months after the events of The Reichenbach Fall.
Castle and Sand by grey853 (158K, E, Johnlock) Sherlock and John both have difficult pasts that affect their evolving relationship. When John prevents a mugging, it sets off a dangerous chain of events that not only impacts him, but his whole family. In the end there's a wedding and a honeymoon, but will there really be a happy ending?
Cooperative Principle by bendingsignpost (56K, E, Johnlock) As the newest instructor at St. Bart's, John has been explicitly warned to never do Sherlock Holmes any favours. Too bad the sex is so good.
Haunted by Vulpesmellifera (22K, E, Johnlock) Plagued by the past, John moves himself and his daughter to a new flat for a fresh start - and it's not 221B Baker Street. While he grapples with new knowledge and old guilt, he's confronted with odd neighbors and strange noises in the night. But is it the new flat, or is John Watson losing his grip on reality?
In Memoriam by strangegibbon (66K, E, Johnlock) Sherlock returns from his self-imposed exile to find a John Watson he barely recognises. Now he must solve the mystery of the disappeared man and try to rebuild their relationship as well as deal with his own return to a London that has forgotten him.
Kintsukuroi by sussexbound (91K, E, Johnlock) “I love you.”  Sherlock sees the words hit John with almost physical force.  He reels back a little, jaw twitching and eyes filling.“I love you,” he repeats, a little softer, a little more gentle, as earnest as he possibly can.  Because they’ve been teetering on the brink of this thing for years, and it had become painfully obvious over the last few months that they were at a tipping point.  This had to happen. Now it has.  Now they can see where they end up.The tears in John’s eyes spill over, and he wipes at them angrily.  “Do you even know what that means?”
Long Ago and Far Away series by lotherington (62K, E, Johnlock) October, 1937. A chance encounter late one night leads to Sherlock following John home.
Northwest Passage by Kryptaria (95K, E, Johnlock) Seven years ago, Captain John Watson of the Canadian Forces Medical Service withdrew from society, seeking a simple, isolated life in the distant northern wilderness of Canada. Though he survives from one day to the next, he doesn't truly live until someone from his dark past calls in a favor and turns his world upside-down with the introduction of Sherlock Holmes.
Not Broken, Just Bent by Schmiezi (87K, E, Johnlock, Warstan) "For a second, I allow myself to remember teaching John how to waltz. There is a special room in my mind palace for it. A big one, with a proper parquet dance floor. For a second, I go there. I remember holding him, closer than the World Dance Council asks for, excusing it with the fact that we are training for a wedding, not for a competition. For a second, I feel his hand on mine again, smell his sweat, hear the song we used. For a second, I allow myself to love him deeply. For a second, only a second, that love reflects on my face."Fix-it for S3, starting at the end of TSoT. Written from Sherlock's POV. If you like to see Mary as one of the good guys, you might want to stop reading right here.
Scar Tissue by 7PercentSolution, J_Baillier (191K, E, Johnlock) John has scarcely recovered from his Afghanistan tour when Sherlock is injured at work, putting their already strained relationship to the test.
Thunder, Skin-Silk, and Magic by SherlockWho (16K, E, Johnlock) In an effort to help John research a book he isn't really writing, Sherlock agrees to really bond with John, just like men in the armed forces would.  Things reach critical mass when John is abducted one time too many and Sherlock's distractions with the writing project lead to unforgivable mistakes.
Underground Rescue by khorazir (48K, M, Johnlock) All kinds of danger lurk in the disused stations of the London Underground. When Sherlock goes missing, John has to play detective to find him, while Sherlock faces demons both present and past.
Where the Sun Never Shines by teahigh (orphaned) (11K, T, Johnlock) John is a mess. Sherlock can't fix him, but he tries. That's good enough, John thinks.
With Careful Hands by Laura JV (15K, T, Johnlock) John returns to London with his mind irretrievably ruined. Sherlock Holmes just wants someone to go halves on a flat. And then there's a double homicide.
And in related news, here is a list of John!Whump with Sherlock helping him.

Paris
Wednesday 11 May 1831
6 5/..
12 20/..
Fahrenheit 40½º and fine morning at 6 5/..  Out at 7 35/.., stood some time looking at the de Hagemann’s calêche, they came to the window and we stood talking 2 or 3 minutes.  Three large boxes behind, one at the top, one beneath the body of the carriage, another larger leather portmanteau on box on the front seat inside – one largish, straw packed, round package under the seat, and one box under the under seat and one box under the seat of the dickey in front. Largish box for the dickey is arranged  rather like a mail coachman’s box  ie 8 boxes and one larger straw package besides innumerable small parcels.
Monsieur and Madame de Hagemann the maid and two children at 6 and 8 drove off with two horses, to pay for four just out from Paris but will pay for three afterwards.  Doubt about their going by Franckfort, will go by Luxembourg and Coblentz if the country is quiet enough. All this is enough to determine me to have a calêche for traveling in future.
Walked by the Rue des Petits-Champs, Rue des Croix-Petits-Champs etc to my little apartment Rue St Victor. Asked a few prices of things en route, and stopped also to see the 3eme of nº 27 Rue St Victor for which all but agreed at 340/- per annum including porter and all taxes. Told my porter nº 7 would give a decided answer tomorrow, said I  could not possibly stow all my things in my present little apartment without another room without this newest donner conge pour le 1st Juillet.
Home at 10½, told my aunt what I had been about.  Had my menuisier (carpenter) about the bibliothique - dressed – breakfast –  all the de Hagemann’s came in for a few minutes to take leave just before starting and were off at 12¼ - all in good heart for the journey – Madame de Hagemann not low as last night, may perhaps get as far as Château -Thiery tonight.
Then talking a little to my aunt and wrote all the above of today till 12 50/.. Madame de Hagemann left me letter to put into the post (which I did en passant) ‘ à son eacellence monsieur Foster ministre Plenipotentiane de s. m. Britanique pres la cour de Sandaigne  à Turin en Piedmont’.
Out at 1¼ from the post office to Madame Hautecoeur’s. not at home, then to the palace royal Berthellemot’s. Took to mend my aunt’s dressing box glass which I had broken just before going out, and to Maurisset engraver, palace royal. Left my plate to have add taken off. Then back to Madame Hautecoeur’s, finally settled to have a white turban – then at Privats spoke about my gloves being made to fit better.
Then to Lady Stuart’s – out – left my card – th[e]n to the de Noe’s – sat there with Mademouselle de Noe and her 2nd brother (confined to the house by his sprained ankle), and lastly with Madame de Noe above ½ hour, 2 ladies there and lastly a gentleman and another lady came in as I went out.–
Then to Schey’s to be measured for gaiters – all so apparently in disorder civilly, went off saying I would call again but never meaning to go any more.  Then along the Rue de Grenelle St Honoré for the gaiter-man recommended by Madame Galvani, again, the 2nd time could not find him – went to Madame Decantes for an address for gaiters. Then to Madame Contant, then to the gaiter man recommended by Madame Decantes, Bouhouse Rue de Richelieu nº 40.
Then to Mazzara’s Rue de Provence to see the panorama of Algiers – nobody there to be paid, only a little boy who shewed me in. So asked for Madame Mazzara who stayed with me about ½ hour, very civil and would not let me pay anything.  Remembered me quite well, very happy to have had the pleasure of seeing me, Monsieur Mazzara not at home.
Excellent view Algiers, I seem now to know the face of the city and country as well as if I had been there. Three views of Paris during the revolution, two on the boulevards, one gigantic (scene the place des Victoires), of the Garcon Boulanger carrying about the dame who was shot, one of the 1st victims and calling out for vengeance.
Tumblr media
Home at 5 50/.., dressed, dinner at 6½, read the paper. Came to my room at 8 40/..and till 9 wrote the last 17½ lines.  Note this morning from Monsieur Pelletine to say that the examinations at the Ecole prevented his coming, but he would come next Wednesday.
Coffee at 9¼ - the man (Monsieur Clement) from Berthellemot’s brought home my aunt’s dressing box glass, paid him his bill.  Came to my room at 11¼ at which hour Fahrenheit 58º fine night, fine day.
While I was out this morning Madame de Hagemann for fear of my not returning in time had sent a little note with small box and note for Miss Ferral, Madame de Bourke’s niece – the kindest little note I have ever had from Madame de Hagemann in as much as it concludes with ‘God bless you, au revoir I hope. yours H –

"In March, when the weather is nice, take your coat. Says a provincial saying. Even if spring is soon, the famous March showers will be there, and with, its good dose of greyness. No problem, we found 3 addresses of bars with fireplace to nestle near the fire with a good glass of wine!
The Cave of the Insolite, Paris 11th
Direction the hectic district of the 11th! Flanked between Parmentier and Oberkampf, La Cave de l'Insolite plays the old-fashioned mood. Between antique furniture, revisited grandmother's kitchen, and retro-jazz music, we feel good! In addition, it teems with natural wines, the must for outsiders tasters in need of sulfites and pesticides The boss here is the stove. Everyone makes him look sweet, to find a table near him. It runs at full speed and offers a good dose of warmth so comforting! 2 hours later, we are still there, with the server as a new friend, (we liked his Facebook page, shhh), a beautiful syrah in the glass and a black pig Biscay who we try to make the skin. In short, we have not left

Welcome to the Hotel Particulier, the new ultra-trendy yuccie spot! Between authentic moldings, velvet seats, wood floors, and old paintings, the bar has its little secret: its chimney Epoque! The armchairs say that you and George, your new lover (must do well in the tone, no?) Has already offered a field cup. It's not because your friends are taunting you on Facebook with their ski vacation photos that you too are not allowed to have a good time! Okay, you will not have calf cramps or sunburns on your nose. But the move is worth it! Exit the Kleber metro station and return to the chic Peninsula Hotel. You will not sleep here, sorry, but you can have a glass of mulled wine with gourmet sandwiches in a yurt. What? Yes! A REAL YURT! She comes from Mongolia and stays until March 31st. Inside, it's mountain design guaranteed! Wood, animal skin, blankets (Colmar please) and especially its small electric fireplace! It is super designed, it keeps warm, crackles and even has artificial logs. It's already that! To you the selfies of competing with your cap on the head and nose already red because of the chimney Pardi!
