Irreplaceable
Or, Chains thinks about Houston.
(Hi @neomineom ! I was your secret Santa! Sorry for taking years, it wasn’t canon compliant so I scrapped it and restarted. Among other real life things. it was totally my fault! I hope that I got your boys right and did them justice 👀)
written for @paydaysecretsanta
// canon compliant fluff with a bit of angst :)
Chains remembers Houston from before they both were in the PAYDAY gang. It was back in the early 2000s, when Houston would unlock the back door every morning so that they wouldn’t bother any customers while talking. The younger man didn’t really speak all that much, but Chains hadn’t minded. He’d met much worse, and the glint in Houston’s eye hinted to his amusement.
Houston was stoic from the beginning, forced to grow up in a household that had no place for a kid. Chains could put two and two together just by the way he mentioned his brother, those glimpses into complex feelings caused by years of neglect. He “had no chill,” as Joy used to say. It might’ve looked like that, but she didn’t know how he was back then.
The Ghost was almost completely silent, immediately getting down to business. He made no time for small talk, finding every conversation meaningless if it didn’t have a point. Chains admired the way that Houston was serious about his work, but it wouldn’t have killed the guy to loosen up a little. Chains had—for lack of a better term—annoyed Houston into relaxing every so often. When the younger man would roll his eyes, the veteran counted that as a victory.
At first, Houston was visibly irritated by Chains’ antics, having half a mind to kick him out of the range. Chains’ disrupted his usual quiet, but Houston began to grow used to it. He didn’t know when it happened, but he had started to expect his presence.
Chains started off by looking at the merchandise, then moved on to talking about other weapons and what Houston used to clean them out. The Armorer, knowing full well how to do it by himself, watched the younger man dismantle a desert eagle with deft fingers.
…When Bain chose Houston as a stand-in for Hoxton, Chains had agreed to it. He had seen Houston’s potential in how he applied himself and in the way he handled his weapons. (It was a mistake. He didn’t regret working with Houston, but Chains never meant to hurt Hoxton. He had always seen the two as separate people despite their similarities.)
Chains would keep it on the lighter side, but he wasn’t afraid to speak his mind. Houston wouldn’t judge him for any of it, sometimes agreeing with what he said. Likewise, Houston had no qualms with asking him for advice.
———
Asking people for help was weak… but with Chains, Houston felt different. This was just two friends talking to each other.
It didn’t stop him from feeling a bit dumb for asking Chains for ideas about what sort of Christmas present to get Dallas. It’s not like he could stroll up to the guy and go “so is there anything you need other than me forgiving you for every time you weren’t there when I needed you?”
…Because that would be distasteful. Probably.
But it could definitely throw a wrench into their operations. With a heavy heart, Houston goes back to the drawing board.
“Would he… actually want anything?” Houston asks his partner in crime. He can’t really keep his eyes on the other man, pretending to work on something. The Ghost tightens screws on a spare ECM, but not enough to strip the thread.
“Heheh, yeah. The guy doesn’t go around screaming his love for Breaking Bad… except when he does,” Chains replies lightheartedly, knowing the Crew Chief’s love for old men getting punched in the face. (They never miss a chance to tease Dallas for being a decade older than the rest of them.)
Houston doesn’t think that Dallas does meth. It wouldn’t be professional. If he did, Bain would fire him… on second thought, maybe he wouldn’t. But Dallas’ level of methness is beside the point.
“He wouldn’t like that,” he says with a slight grumble. Houston could get him something related to the retirement home show, but Dallas would be too embarrassed to actually do anything with it. Houston doesn’t blame him. He’s gonna act like he does, anyway.
“…Well, he likes money,” the Armorer shrugs, “but you should be the one to decide, you know? Can’t do it for you. But I’m sure he wouldn’t mind either way.”
The Ghost can tell that Chains is listening to what he’s saying, and he appreciates the sentiment. No, he’s always appreciated the way that Nicholas understood him. The younger heister turns to nod at his friend and is greeted with a smile, as always.
(Houston ended up getting Dallas a pair of ugly Christmas sweater socks with tacky dollar designs emblazoned across them. Dallas acted polite about the gift as if he didn’t like it, but Houston noticed that his brother wore those stupid fuzzy socks with each subsequent holiday.)
———
Chains sometimes tells stories about how him and Houston used to work in the same room—something that the latter never rarely did by choice. People would take his stuff without asking or get things dirty without cleaning up afterwards and it irked him to no end. Chains was someone who respected Houston’s boundaries, and there’s the fact that they’d known each other for over a decade… that’s gotta count for something, right?
Eventually, the Armorer taught Wolf how to behave himself around Houston as well, slowly helping his friend branch out. Houston learned how to trust a select few, settling both Wolf and Chains into his close circle of friends. Still, the older heister was different to him than the rest. He had bad experiences with Dallas, and Wolf was sometimes unpredictable. They were each unique in their own ways.
Houston was uptight, rigidity mellowed out with time. He knew his own boundaries, pushed them and even went to open a bar in Mexico with the crew’s support. Sure, Chains had shown him the way, but how much he changed was all on him. Chains helped Houston get a foot in the door, allowing him to meet new people. To see new things. To be independent again—apart from both Hoxton and his brother. Just because the gang was apart hadn’t meant that they cut all contact—they met every now and then just for the sake of spending time together.
Chains had sent letters to the former heister between his shoots, talking like they did back in the old days. He would light up whenever he found a reply in his mailbox, putting it elsewhere for safekeeping. Houston never completely chilled out, but he built his own life over there, at his own place! Chains was proud of the younger man. Houston updated his friend on the things that were happening… until he couldn’t.
Chains wasn’t able to save anything from his house when he was attacked.
Which is why when Dallas looks out the window for someone who will never arrive, Chains can put a hand on his shoulder. That’s why he doesn’t have to say a single word. He’s able to show the Crew Chief that he understands. Hoxton is his own person, and Houston never could’ve replaced him. He didn’t have to. Hoxton can’t replace him, either.
The two of them wait for an impossibility until after the sun sets.

[ Large headcanon rant incoming ]
I’ve had a lot of time to think of headcanons and ideas for this fandom, and with my passion for science I’ve decided to combine the two into..
Space trio! ( California, Texas and Florida. ) All three states were heavily involved in the space race. Now, plenty of states were involved in the NASA space program and the race to orbit, but these are the main three ( and my favourites. )
Texas’s involvement is pretty obvious “ Houston, we have a problem! ” and was a major communications, training and research center for NASA, alongside Florida with Cape Canaveral and the Kennedy space center, CC being a major spaceport for the USA during the space race. California was also a major research center and used for construction, and even has a space shuttle launched and landed in California of its own ( Endeavour. ) Downey, California was also the birthplace of the Apollo space program!
I think the three of them used to be close friends back when the space race and Cold War were in full swing. They all have a love for space and physics secretly, but have shifted focus to mars and sometimes long for the adrenaline of the space race. I’d imagine all three of them building models together, especially California given he was a huge part of the construction of certain space shuttles.
Florida is EXTREMELY smart with physics and calculating projectories even if he covers it up with childish innocence. His aspirations for space and the planets will always override that persona. He is the one in the trio who makes sure shit dosent go wrong, the one who’s ideas can become true with his mathematical ability. He’s basically a human calculator but specifically with white claw. Any aircraft problem can be fixed with a couple shots and meth! ( Atomivet does not indorse this )
Texas, and Houston as a whole was heavily shaped by the space race into a almost space city. He was the forefront of the first missions, welcoming some of the first ever astronauts. Houston was nicknamed as a “space city” in the 60’s and became synonymous with the Lyndon B. Johnson space center. Texas nowadays is also heavily known as a epicenter for space research with SpaceX and Blue Origin. He’s extremely proud of his accomplishments, throwing parades and food festivals and celebrating his achievements in space.
I honestly love the idea of them sometimes coming together to revisit past memories and inspire future creation. Just sitting at a table together sketching out new designs and models, a peaceful moment between the three people you’d least expect peace from. Except for Flo’s bullshit, that is. God know what would happen if you gave him the materials for a aerospace craft in todays world…hell.

Four men have been arrested after 53 migrants died when they were abandoned in a tractor trailer on a desolate road in San Antonio on Monday, the U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Texas announced.
The alleged driver of the truck, 45-year-old Homero Zamorano Jr., is facing one count of alien smuggling resulting in death and faces life in prison or the death penalty if he is convicted.
A law enforcement official told the San Antonio Express-News that Zamorano was "very high on meth when he was arrested nearby and had to be taken to the hospital."
DURBIN SAYS MIGRANT DEATHS IN TEXAS COULD BE ‘UVALDE MOMENT' FOR IMMIGRATION DEAL
Zamorano is originally from Brownsville but now lives in Pasadena, a city southeast of Houston.
Authorities conducted a search warrant on Zamorano's cell phone and found that he allegedly communicated with 28-year-old Christian Martinez about the smuggling operation.
Martinez was arrested in Palestine, about 150 miles north of Houston, on Tuesday and charged with conspiracy to transport illegal aliens resulting in death.
ABBOTT URGES BIDEN TO ‘STOP THE LOSS OF LIVES,’ SAYS TEXAS ADDING TRUCK CHECKPOINTS, DEPLOYING STRIKE TEAMS
Authorities found 48 migrants deceased at the scene. The other 16 were transported to local hospitals, where five died.
Of the deceased victims, 22 were from Mexico, seven were from Guatamala, and two were from Honduras. Authorities are trying to identify the other 17 migrants.
Two other suspects were also arrested in connection with the tragedy after police tracked the registration on the truck to a home in San Antonio.
Juan Claudio D’Luna-Mendez, 23, and Juan Francisco D’Luna-Bilbao, 48, were charged with one count of possession of a weapon by an alien illegally in the U.S. They are both Mexican nationals.

Warning: Contains spoilers for HBO’s True Detective Season 1 as well as mentions of death, drugs, murder, and more.
Tumblr media
Rustin Cohle was born in June 1964 to Travis Cohle and Barbara Campbell. Travis was on leave from the army, and Barbara was a sex worker. She chose to keep him even though conceiving him was an accident.
In 1966, his father returned from the war and was greeted with the news of the birth of his son, who was then two years old. Despite his mother’s protests, Travis took him with him and moved to Alaska.
Between 1967 and 1982, Rustin and Travis lived in a secluded cabin on Pilot Point, living a survivalist lifestyle.
Rustin was tens of miles from the nearest school and was never able to receive a proper education. However, he was an avid reader and read every book his father had and everything he could find on his trips to the city. Whether or not he paid for said books is up for debate.
In 1981, Travis Cohle was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia and chose not to undergo treatment. He passed away in May of the following year.
Two months after his father’s death, Rustin packed up most of his things and drove to Texas in his father’s Ford. The three-day trip took him more than four weeks, having stopped in almost every major city.
Rustin lived in a motel in Houston, Texas, for three months while studying for his GEDs, which he passed.
From 1982 to 1984, Rustin attended college and worked various jobs to support himself, including being a dog walker, a grocery store and gas station cashier, and a car wash attendant. He received an associate’s degree in criminal justice.
In 1984, Rustin enrolled in the Houston Police Academy. Ten weeks later, he graduated and became a patrol officer with the Houston Police Department.
In 1987, Rustin was promoted to Junior Detective in the Robbery Division. That same year he met Claire Morgan, whom he married five months later. In November of that year, Rustin’s daughter, Sophia Cohle, was born.
In 1989, Rustin was transferred to the Houston Police Narcotics Division. That same year, Sophia passed away in a tragic car accident on the front porch of their home.
Due to the death of his daughter and his work with narcotics, Rust quickly became an addict, scamming couriers to keep his addiction going.
In 1990, Claire filed for divorce. The divorce was finalized two months later. She kept the house while Rust got the car.
That same year, during a house raid, Rust came across an addict injecting his infant daughter with methamphetamine. He shot and killed the man in a passionate rage.
As punishment for his actions, the state attorney gave Rustin a choice between going to jail for first-degree murder or going undercover for an unspecified period. He chose the latter.
From 1990 to 1994, he was forced to work undercover, infiltrating gangs and cartels under the command of whoever needed someone in his position.
In mid-1994, in a deal gone wrong, he killed three cartel members and was shot three times with a .25-caliber handgun.
During his recovery, he was admitted to Northshore Psychiatric Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where he stayed for four months. Upon his release, he was offered retirement with a pension, but he chose to continue working and requested to be transferred to a Homicide division.
In October 1994, he moved to Lafayette, Louisiana, to fill a vacancy in his division of choice and was partnered with Martin Hart.
In January 1995, Dora Lange was murdered, and Rustin and Martin took on the case. Ten weeks later, they found the suspected killer in a meth shack in an isolated area and planned to arrest him, but Martin ultimately killed him with a headshot in a series of unfortunate events.
From 1995 to 2002, Rustin and Martin worked on various cases and became friends. They spent time together, and Martin’s wife, Margaret Hart, often set Rustin up for blind dates. In 1999, he met Laurie Spencer, and they remained a couple for three years.
In 2002, Rustin reopened the Dora Lange case for further investigation after a tip from a criminal he was instigating. His actions in this regard got him suspended.
Later, he had a fallout with Martin, which led him to resign from the police force and flee Louisiana.
From 2003 to 2010, little is known about Rustin’s whereabouts or if he continued working on the case.
In 2010, he returned to Louisiana to conduct reconnaissance related to the Lange case.
In 2012, the Lake Charles murder occurred. Rustin and Martin are brought in for questioning and later reunited to work on the case together.
They eventually discovered Erroll Childress, responsible for both murders and possibly many others. They found his house and followed him to “Carcosa,” a series of nearby tunnels filled with Cajun traps, children’s clothing, and a shrine dedicated to the “Yellow King.”
Rustin and Martin confronted Errol, who stabbed Rustin with a butcher knife and wounded Martin. As Errol attacked Martin, Rustin managed to kill him with a headshot.
Laid on the ground, Rustin pulled out the knife, spending his last conscious moments being tended to by Martin.
Rustin woke up a week later at Lafayette General Hospital and was expected to make a full recovery. His only visitors were Laurie, who was now head of Trauma Surgery, and Martin, whom he later convinced to help him escape.
From 2012 to 2013, he lived with Martin, who helped him heal.
After recovering, Rustin decided to stay in Louisiana, moving to his own apartment and helping Martin with his private investigator business, “Hart Investigative Solutions” (later renamed “Hart & Cohle Investigative Solutions”).
He lives and works there to this day.

Armed woman killed in Joel Osteen Texas megachurch shootout (BBC) A woman clad in a trench coat and accompanied by a child opened fire in a crowded Texas megachurch before she was gunned down by police, officials say. The suspect, named by police as Genesse Ivonne Moreno, 36, was with her seven-year-old son, who was critically injured in the Houston shootout. A 57-year-old man was shot in the hip during the incident and has since been discharged from hospital. The gunwoman's unnamed son was shot in the head during the shootout and is currently "fighting for his life", said police. It is not clear who shot the boy. Officials told Monday's news conference the attacker has a history of mental health issues and was placed under an emergency detention order in 2016. Public records indicate Moreno also has a long record of arrests and convictions on assault, drug, and weapons charges. Motive for the attack was unclear.
Mexico says it seized 20 tons of meth from a drug lab in Sonora state (AP) Mexican law enforcement agencies said Monday they seized over 20 tons of methamphetamine at the biggest drug lab found during the current administration. The Mexican navy said Monday that the lab was located in Quiriego, a township in a remote part of the northern border state of Sonora. It said the 91,000 pounds (41,310 kilograms) of meth found there was equivalent to about half of the 162,000 pounds of the drug Mexico has seized all year so far. Another 28,000 pounds (12,705 kilograms) of meth chemicals were found, the navy said.
Nicaragua’s crackdown on Catholic Church spreads fear among the faithful (AP) Nineteen priests kicked out of the country, dozens of incidents of harassment and church desecrations, rural areas lacking worship and social services: the situation for Catholic clergy and faithful in Nicaragua is only worsening in 2024, according to exiled priests, laypeople in the Central American country and human rights advocates. The fear of the ongoing crackdown by President Daniel Ortega—on the Catholic Church in particular but not sparing evangelicals—has become so pervasive that it is silencing criticism of the authoritarian government and even mentions of the repression from the pulpit. “Life in Nicaragua is hell, because surveillance is brutal. You can’t say anything that’s against the government,” said an exiled priest.
Finnish line (BBC) Finland's conservative former Prime Minister Alexander Stubb has won Sunday's presidential election, final results show. He secured 51.6% of the vote, while his Green Party rival Pekka Haavisto, the former foreign minister, had 48.4%. Mr Haavisto has already admitted defeat. It is the first election since Finland joined the Nato military alliance. Mr Stubb, 55, takes a hardline approach towards Russia, with which the Nordic nation shares a long land border. He had said that joining Nato was a "done deal" for his country as soon as Russian President Vladimir Putin launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
An Outburst by Trump on NATO May Push Europe to Go It Alone (NYT) Long before Donald J. Trump threatened over the weekend that he was willing to let Russia “do whatever the hell they want” against NATO allies that do not contribute sufficiently to collective defense, European leaders were quietly discussing how they might prepare for a world in which America removes itself as the centerpiece of the 75-year-old alliance. Even allowing for the usual bombast of one of his campaign rallies, where he made his declaration on Saturday, Mr. Trump may now force Europe’s debate into a far more public phase. So far the discussion in the European media has focused on whether the former president, if returned to office, would pull the United States out of NATO. But the larger implication of his statement is that he might invite President Vladimir V. Putin of Russia to pick off a NATO nation, as a warning and a lesson to the 30 or so others about heeding Mr. Trump’s demands. His statement stunned many in Europe, and by Sunday morning his comments had already resonated with those who have argued that Europe cannot depend on the United States to deter Russia.
After embrace, pope and Argentina’s Milei meet amid speculation Francis might finally go home (AP) Despite their rocky start, Argentina’s President Javier Milei and Pope Francis appeared to have hit it off as they held their first meeting Monday amid speculation that the Argentine pontiff might finally go home for a visit later this year. The Vatican said the two men met for an hour and 10 minutes, an unusually long audience by Francis’ standards, especially given no translation was required. Vatican video showed a smiling Francis briefly grasping Milei’s arm for support as they walked to his desk at the start of their meeting. Milei, who once called the pope an “imbecile,” gave Francis some of his favorite Argentine dulce de leche alfajor cookies and lemon biscuits. As recently as last month the 87-year-old pontiff repeated his hope to visit Argentina later this year for the first time since his 2013 election.
Russia launches barrage of 45 drones over Ukraine as Kyiv changes more military leaders (AP) Russian forces launched 45 drones over Ukraine in a five-and-a-half-hour barrage Sunday, officials said, as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy continued the reshuffle of his war cabinet as the war enters its third year. In a statement, the Ukrainian air force said it had shot down 40 of the Iranian-made Shahed drones over nine different regions, including on the outskirts of the country’s capital, Kyiv. The attack targeted agricultural facilities and coastal infrastructure, officials for Ukraine’s southern defense forces wrote on Telegram. They said that a strike in the Mykolaiv region had injured one person, sparking a fire and damaging residential buildings.
525 million (WSJ) The projected size of China’s population by the end of the century, researchers estimate. That’s a precipitous drop from today’s 1.4 billion people. Beijing miscalculated its way to a baby bust with its one-child policy. The sometimes brutal enforcement and decades of propaganda about the benefits of a small family created a hard-to-change mindset, while the traditional preference for sons meant many couples who could have only one child preferred a boy. Now the number of women of childbearing age is shrinking quickly and not all of those who can have kids want to.
55 dead in Philippines landslide that buried a village (AP) At least 55 people died and 32 were injured in one of the southern Philippines’ deadliest landslides in recent years, the government of Davao de Oro province said Monday. Search and retrieval operations are still underway for dozens more missing after the landslide that took place Tuesday night on the southern island of Mindanao in the mining town of Maco, some 600 miles south of the capital, Manila. The death toll is expected to rise as the government verifies more dead and missing. A local official said during a live-streamed news conference late Monday afternoon that of the bodies that have been recovered, five remain unidentified and that 51 people are still unaccounted for. The landslide swept away three buses and a jeepney carrying miners and buried a village, according to authorities. The region was inundated by floods in the past week, hampering rescue operations.
Young Israelis block aid to Gaza while IDF soldiers stand and watch (Washington Post) It’s approaching 1 a.m. Yosef de Bresser, 22, is in the thick of planning. He fields calls from the car as it zips along dirt roads just outside southern Gaza near Egypt. “Are people there?” he asks. Around 40, he’s told. He taps out a WhatsApp message to rally more: “We sleep tonight in Kerem Shalom and block aid and fuel to Hamas!” Before Hamas attacked Israel on Oct. 7 and the war that ensued, Kerem Shalom was the main commercial crossing between Israel and Gaza. Today, it’s one of just two entry points for lifesaving food and medicine to the besieged enclave, where aid agencies say civilians are on the brink of famine. But De Bresser and his three companions are determined to keep any trucks from getting through, and they aren’t bothered if innocents suffer: “War is war,” De Bresser shrugs. The United States didn’t care about civilians when it blew up Hiroshima and Nagasaki. “Who gives his enemy aid?” The Israel Defense Forces—ostensibly, at least—have made Kerem Shalom a closed military zone since late January. But there are no checkpoints at night, making it easier to bring in busloads of protesters. Inside, they shake hands with soldiers and begin to line up their tents.
Israeli forces rescue 2 hostages in dramatic Gaza raid that killed at least 67 Palestinians (AP) Israeli forces rescued two hostages early Monday, storming a heavily guarded apartment in the southern Gaza Strip and extracting the captives under fire in a dramatic raid that was a small but symbolically significant success for Israel. The operation killed at least 67 Palestinians, including women and children, according to Palestinian health officials in the beleaguered territory. The raid was celebrated in Israel as a victory in the sluggish battle to free the hostages, with more than 100 captives still held by Hamas and other Gaza militants, and briefly lifted the spirits of a nation still reeling from Hamas’ cross-border raid last year. But in Gaza, where civilians have borne a staggering toll since the war erupted on Oct. 7, the operation unleashed another wartime tragedy, with many Palestinians killed or wounded.
Media casualties in the Israel-Gaza war (Washington Post) Some 85 journalists and media workers have been killed in the Israel-Gaza war. The rate of journalists killed in the conflict, about five a week, is the highest since the Committee to Protect Journalists began keeping records over 30 years ago. All but seven of the 85 killed were Palestinians.
Egypt is threatening to void its decades-old peace treaty with Israel (AP) It was a warm handshake between the unlikeliest of statesmen, conducted under the beaming gaze of President Jimmy Carter. Sunlight streamed through the trees at Camp David, Maryland, as Egyptian President Anwar Sadat and Israeli Prime Minister Menachem Begin solidified a landmark agreement that has allowed over 40 years of peace between Israel and Egypt. It has served as an important source of stability in a volatile region. That peace has held through two Palestinian uprisings and a series of wars between Israel and Hamas. But now, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowing to send Israeli troops into Rafah, a city in Gaza on the border with Egypt, the Egyptian government is threatening to void the agreement. If Egypt were to nullify the agreement, it could mean that Israel can no longer rely on its southern border as an oasis of calm. Bolstering forces along its border with Egypt would no doubt challenge an Israeli military already thinly stretched. But it would bear serious ramifications for Egypt as well. Egypt has received billions of dollars in U.S. military assistance from the U.S. since the peace agreement.

“Fact-Checks” from the left are amazing!
“Fact-Checks” from the left are amazing! If it’s something negative about the left it’s “they said they didn’t do it, we couldn’t find any proof, so it’s “mostly false””, but when checking the police “even though they deny it, there is no proof that they didn’t do it so it must be “mostly true””.
Why did we completely believed the “private autopsy” the family got and no the official one form the Medical Examiners? Do people not have faith in our institutions? Was Chauvin allowed to have his own “private autopsy” completed and then believed?
The race card is played over and over again in this. Holding someone at gun point only gets you 5 years in prison? Apparently when “Big Floyd” got out or prison, in 2013, he turned his life around, was involved in church and served as a mentor….then why did he have so many narcotics in his system and why was his tolerance for these drugs so high? Ahhh probably just unlucky, the only time he ever had drugs in his system was also the only time he interacted with cops.
Direct Quotes:
As cities worldwide erupted in protests over the death of George Floyd — a Black man who died after a white police officer knelt on his neck for about nine minutes in Minneapolis
No one thinks that he should have died in his arrest, but what I find despicable to be is that everyone is pretending that this man lived a heroic lifestyle when he didn't. …I refuse to accept the narrative that this person is a martyr or should be lifted up in the black community. ...He has a rap sheet that is long, that is dangerous. He is an example of a violent criminal his entire life — up until the very last moment."
The claims in this meme are a mixture of true and false, as we'll document below. In brief, the alleged crimes and time periods are mostly accurate, with the caveat that Floyd was convicted of theft in 1998, not armed robbery.
Not all the crimes resulted in prison time, but rather jail sentences; no evidence suggests a woman involved in the 2007 charge was pregnant; it's an exaggeration of toxicology results to claim Floyd "was high on meth" when he was choked by a cop, and there's no proof that Floyd was "getting ready to drive a car" before his fatal encounter with police other than the fact that officers say they approached him as he sat in the driver's seat of a vehicle.
According to court records in Harris County, which encompasses Floyd's hometown of Houston, authorities arrested him on nine separate occasions between 1997 and 2007, mostly on drug and theft charges that resulted in months-long jail sentences.
As to the details of Floyd's arrests, the first occurred on Aug. 2, 1997, when he was almost 23 years old. According to prosecutors, police in that case caught him delivering less than one gram of cocaine to someone else, so they sentenced him to about six months in jail. Then, the following year, authorities arrested and charged Floyd with theft on two separate occasions (on Sept. 25, 1998, and Dec. 9, 1998), sentencing him to a total of 10 months and 10 days in jail.
Then, about three years later (on Aug. 29, 2001), Floyd was sentenced to 15 days in jail for "failure to identify to a police officer," court documents say. In other words, he allegedly didn't give his name, address or birth date to a cop who was arresting him for reasons that are unknown (the court records don't say why police were questioning him in the first place) and requesting that personal information.
Between 2002 and 2005, police arrested and charged Floyd for another four crimes: for having less than one gram of cocaine on him (on Oct. 29, 2002); for criminal trespassing (on Jan. 3, 2003); for intending to give less than one gram of cocaine to someone else (on Feb. 6, 2004); and for again having less than one gram of cocaine in his possession (on Dec. 15, 2005). He was sentenced to about 30 months in jail, total, for those crimes.
Lastly, in 2007, authorities arrested and charged Floyd with his most serious crime: aggravated robbery with a deadly weapon.
He pleaded guilty in 2009 and was sentenced to five years in prison. He was paroled in January 2013, when he was almost 40 years old.
Two days later, the county released a statement that attributed Floyd's cause of death to "cardiopulmonary arrest complicating law enforcement subdual, restraint, and neck compression" —which essentially means he died because his heart and lungs stopped while he was being restrained by police. That announcement came just hours after Floyd's family released findings of a separate, private autopsy that determined Floyd had indeed died from a combination of Chauvin's knee on his neck and pressure on his back from the other officers.
According to the county's postmortem toxicology screening, which is summarized below and was performed one day after Floyd's death, he was intoxicated with fentanyl and had recently used methamphetamines (as well as other substances)
More Specifically, Floyd tested positive for 11 ng/mL of fentanyl — which is a synthetic opioid pain reliever — and 19 ng/mL of methamphetamine, or meth, though it's unclear by what method the intoxicants got into his bloodstream or for what reasons.
But more complex is proving whether "he was high" at the time of his fatal encounter with police. While everyone's reaction to and tolerance for such drugs varies, and the effects of mixing drugs can be totally unpredictable
Also, Hennepin County medical examiners stated Floyd's blood levels made it seem like he had "recently" used meth in the past, not that he was peaking on a high from it, and the county investigators did not list the drugs as Floyd's cause of death, but rather as "significant conditions" that influenced how he died.
In January 2013, after Floyd was paroled for the aggravated robbery, people who knew him said he returned to Houston's Third Ward "with his head on right." He organized events with local pastors, served as a mentor for people living in his public housing complex, and was affectionately called "Big Floyd" or "the O.G." (original gangster) as a title of respect for someone who'd learned from his experiences. Then in 2014, Floyd, a father of five, decided to move to Minneapolis to find a new job and start a new chapter.

Hello DABC, This is Aaron from Houston calling in for prayer requests. We have kind of a situation going on in my church Between a couple of people. Umm.Somebody who Tends to burn bridges sooner than they need to be, honestly. But.There's just general communication problems. General misunderstandings, general lack of trust. Just a lot of kind of social issues. But Something that I'm trying to help navigate in And now it's kind of it's reaching ahead, but I can tell that things are slowly getting better between the two individuals that that involved in this. And it's just taking It's taking a while and they requires a lot of discernment, not just on my part but on others. So just pray over the whole situation. Like I won't give any names, just be praying that reconciliation can happen. That there Will there be a peace over The church groups over the leadership, over everybody involved and that ultimately, whatever sin, if any sense needs to be confessed that it happened. If any misunderstandings need to be voiced, that they be voiced and dealt with. Ultimately, that whatever whoever needs to find help gets the help they need. Not just so that there's one incident can be handled, but that it can be avoided in the future and that they can truly build meaningful relationships. Again, there tends to be Difficulty with that for for particular people in this situation, but I'll be praying over that and be praying over me so that I kind of know. How much involvement I need to have and how much I can rely on others as well, so be praying for that thank.
