#how awful he makes qrow feel

i find it funny how ruby's "then you must've forgotten who raised me" is taken as gospel and proof that yang raised ruby alone for several years when it's. preceded by ruby outright lying about the reason why she ended up in the ever after: at no point was ruby planning to jump into the void after yang. they all thought it meant death, and after ruby drank the tea yang didn't try to follow her, either. it feels... absurd to take what ruby is essentially saying—"i would follow you to death because that's how you raised me :)"—as the truth when later it's made clear that yang isn't reciprocating in the same, self-destructive manner.
like. it just makes yang seem super awful?? that she would raise ruby to follow her to death, but she won't do the same in return??? is this really the hill people are willing to die on???
anyway. yang is upset that ruby is there after she tried to save her, and ruby is trying to make yang feel better. that's what the scene is about. much later, when ruby snaps, she says this to yang: "'gotta stay positive!' right?! smiles all around! maybe even get our feelings sorted out!"
ya know. to yang, who makes jokes to hide her fear, her discomfort, her pain.
according to yang, tai "kind of shut down", but we know this doesn't mean that he fell into a depression so deep he couldn't even get out of bed; yang needed to wait for him to be out of house to sneak out—meaning he was attentive of them—, ruby relates to penny for having a dad who worries a lot, he reads them bedtime stories, he was busy with work, ruby's memories have him right there present even after summer's disappearance, etc.
(and that's without mentioning that ice queendom's website description for tai sites him as having raised ruby and yang on his own. or that according to the writers and voice actors alike, yang can't cook.)
everything that we've learned, from V1 to V5 discussion between yang and weiss to V9 points towards the issues of yang and ruby's childhood being emotional. tai didn't literally 'shut down', he just wasn't the same happy, positive person than he was before summer disappeared—and of course he wasn't, he was grieving. and yang took it upon herself to be that person, to 'pick up the pieces', to stay positive and to be smiles all around, making jokes to hide her true feelings, just to bring that little bit of normalcy back to their home.
and ruby followed along. there was no time to sort out feelings, you just had to be happy in the face of great grief. no one in this family really has: tai was focused on raising his daughters (a trait ruby and yang both exhibit: focusing on something else, doing chores or helping others, even when they're not doing do well themselves), he wasn't going to burden them with his issues, and who knows where qrow was doing that time, drowning in his own sorrows; and yang and ruby were busy staying Positive™... until the fall of beacon happened, and yang got to start her journey of sorting her feelings outs. maybe she hasn't quite reached the end of that journey, but she's well on her way. ruby isn't, tho, hence her words to yang when she snapped: it feels unfair, that they've been in the same spot for so long and now yang is moving forward but ruby can't. doesn't feel she's allowed to.
and i feel like V9 perfectly showcased how it was in their childhood even if they were asked "are you okay?": avoid the question, pretend you're okay, happy, smiling, whatever. there's only so much one can do to force the issue if the other person is avoiding it altogether.
anyway. they're finally getting out of the cycle of toxic positivity. the wound is now healing.
can't wait for summer to appear to open a new one.

The Dirge
"That should do it for the fire tonight." Lie Ren said as he swiped his palms together, clearing off the residual sawdust from his hands. It had been a week since Team JNPR, or rather Team JNR joined Ruby Rose in her quest to head east, towards Mistral and Haven Academy. The past few hours have been strenuous to say the least.
"Finally." Nora Valkyrie huffed as she dropped her load next to the pit. "It feels like we've been carrying logs for hours!"
"It was only for ten minutes." Ren assured. A crack from behind alerted him to the sudden presence of his team leader, Jaune Arc, and their friend, Ruby Rose. He turned to find them walking away from the makeshift tent. Looking past, he could see Ruby's uncle, Qrow Branwen, laying inside. "How is he?"
"He doesn't look good." Ruby said, voice full of concern. "That weird guy stabbed him with his tail, and he's been running a fever ever since."
"He'll live, though." Jaune voiced in a very matter-of-fact tone. "He just needs rest and antibiotics."
"The second of which we don't have." Ruby pointed out.
"He'll live." Jaune repeated. "Haven's only a few miles away."
"Can we make it, though?"
"We can," Ren said, though not without a very begrudging tone, "if we cut through Kuro Yuri." Nora flinched at the name. "I'd prefer not to, but it is the fastest way there."
"Anything you want to share, Ren?" Jaune asked.
"No." He shook his head. "There's nothing but ghosts there."
"...Like, real ghosts, or...?" Jaune let the question hang.
"No. Ghosts aren't real."
"Are you sure about that, Ren?" Jaune knelt next to the pit and began scraping flint and sent sparks flying into the dried leaves. Almost instantly, the fire came alive with a crackling snap and pop. Jaune then seated himself on a log. "We've already seen a lot."
"Grimm." Ren clarified. "A ghost is different from a Geist."
"I wonder about that." Jaune said with a smile. It then faded as his blue eyes stared into the contained inferno. He almost looked hypnotized by the dancing flames.
As the others sat down, Jaune began to start humming a tune. It was deep and low, like a bellow from Ursa, yet softer and somehow more wild. Nora opened her ration pack, carelessly tossing half a granola bar to the blaze. Jaune reached across, through the fire itself, to snatch the healthy treat from it's scorched fate.
"What were you singing?" Ren asked, choosing to ignore the self-inflicted burning his leader had placed upon himself.
Jaune smiled. "Just an old song I used to sing for my family." He continued to stare into the fire pit. "I usually sing it to myself when I miss them, or whenever I need to ready myself for the worst possible scenario."
"Like a song of bravery?" Ruby asked, biting into her granola.
"Not quite."
"Can you sing it for us?" Nora asked.
"I don't think you want to hear it." Jaune waved his hand. "It's not very good."
"Come on!" Ruby whined.
"Pleeeeeeease?" Nora pleaded.
"Another time." Jaune said, standing up. "I'll go check on your uncle. Maybe get him to keep some food down."
"Aw! Okay..." Ruby and Nora pouted.
Ren watched as Jaune entered the tent, and noticed something off. In the encroaching twilight, darkness settled in, and the sky dipped from it's orange hue to a more violet and blue shades. Yet Jaune's eyes remained an icy blue, clear to be seen in the approaching dusk.
---------------------------------------------------
This was a dumb idea. Stupid! Idiotic! Hands down the worst idea Ruby ever made in her entire life, and possibly the last she ever made in her life.
Twigs and dried leaves crunched as she hammered her feet through the forest. She could hear the growling Beowolves behind her over the thundering in her chest. She should have stayed at camp, stayed where it was safe. In her excitement, she left behind her precious Crescent Rose; a sin she would never repeat so long as she lived.
As for now, she chose to follow a phantom she caught floating amongst the shadows of the forest. A phantom she recognized from only a month ago. Her curiosity would be paid in full by the Grimm if she slowed down.
She tripped over something, and her body's momentum carried her over the ground. She fell down a hill rolling along the ground until she came to a stop. Her back slammed against the boulder, knocking the air from her lungs. Cornered by two Beowolves and out of aura, Ruby knew it would be where she died.
"I'm sorry, Mom..." Ruby wept a single.
As the cold wind blew, a low hum carried through the air. Beneath the shattered moon, she saw him. His piercing blue eyes the only light within his indistinguishable silhouette. With a click, a red block held by the end shifted and extended into a long-bladed scythe. It was Crescent Rose, and without a care, she flew through the chilling night air, landing at her master's boots.
"Pick it up." The voice growled. Ruby looked confusedly between the shade and her weapon. "Pick. It. Up."
Without a second thought, Ruby scrambled to her feet, gripping her baby tightly in her hands. The ghost began to hum, and the night suddenly grew colder. Especially in Ruby's spine as she noticed the two Beowolves had multiplied into almost two dozen.
"This is it, Little Rose." The shadow called out to her. "This is where you prove to me how bad you want to be a huntress."
Before Ruby could ask what he meant, her battle began as a Beowolf lept for her. With a turn, she twirled her scythe and rended the Grimm in two. Without hesitation, the next one came, swiping it's insidious claw. Ruby ducked, then severed it's legs from it's body. As she spliced it's head apart, two more jumped at her from behind.
On and on, her dance of death continued. Her muscles ached and her breath grew more and more ragged. The air grew colder, and the humming grew louder. She could almost hear words echoing from all around.
She was down to the last Grimm. Her lungs ached as her throat burned. It was the only warmth her body felt as the night air grew colder and colder. She lept for the last remaining Grimm, when her body suddenly seized itself. She watched in horror as the Beowolf stalked closer, pure malice glowing in it's eyes. She choked back a scream as it's fangs drew closer to her eyes.
In a blink, it was all dust. The Beowolf suddenly died, and she uttered a silent prayer of gratitude to whoever it was that saved her.
"I wouldn't start praying yet, Little Rose." The voice came back, and she felt herself being turned over. A hand found it's way to her throat, and her head was forced to turn with bony thumb and index finger. The digits were cold as ice, and the chill bit into her skin. "Oh, there's still some life in you. Too bad about that last one, though. If it was your time, you would have died there, unfulfilled."
"Please, don't kill me." Ruby's eyes welled with hot tears as she stared at the gaunt face in front of her.
"Oh, I don't kill people, Little Rose." His hand released from her neck. "I simply watch them die, and then help them move on to their next life."
"Who-" She swallowed as she sat up. "Who are you?"
"I am the last thing you will ever see." His eye seemed to twinkle at her. A flash of blue. Just like that night. "Oh, that wasn't me." He said, as if reading her thoughts. "That was somebody else."
"What?" Ruby wiped her eyes. "I don't understand! Who are you?!"
Taking a deep breath, the figure turned and began to hum. The wind blew again, only it was accompanied by singing once more. However, Ruby then noticed that these voices in the night air weren't singing. They were screaming. Begging. A thousand souls, maybe more, all pleading with agonized voices.
"Please, no!"
"I'll do anything!"
"Take it all!"
"Take me, not her!"
"It's not my time!"
"I DON'T WANT TO DIE!"
Ruby blinked and she was elsewhere, laying on a tree. She clutched her chest, trying to steady her beating heart. The tears poured hotly from her eyes as she panted.
"Ruby?!" She looked up to see a familiar face running towards her. "Are you okay?! Where have you been?!"
"I..." She panted. "I-I-I saw a shadow, and I followed it, and then there was a Beowolf, then another Beowolf, and then I fell, and- and-!"
"Easy, Ruby." Jaune held her hands and rubbed her back. "You're okay. Everything's okay."
"I... I almost died." Ruby gulped.
Jaune didn't say anything. He simply sat next to her and held her. She looked up to see Crocea Mors laying against a tree, next to a scroll. The scroll was powered off, and the tree was dead. Every tree around it was alive, but this one was dead, and being carved into by Jaune.
"Were... Were you training?" Ruby asked.
"Yeah." He looked up. "I found this dead tree earlier, so I thought it would be good practice."
"Wouldn't one of these other trees be a better target?"
"Yeah, they would," Jaune nodded, "but I don't want to cut their lives short. Not before their time."
Ruby looked to the ground and saw a pile of dead leaves laying at the base. For some reason, she felt her soul resonate with the dead, scarred tree.

Did you want Raven's backstory and background to be more complex and morally grey? I personally was expecting the revelation about why she left Yang to shift the audience's feelings from negative to more ambiguous.
Raven was built up as an absolute mystery box of sorts. Appearing in a middle of WF operation, coming out of a strange portal wearing a strange mask and schooling one of strongest characters in the show to date. On top of that she is tied to the show's biggest mystery (Summer's fate).
Every bit of the info we learn about her in the first three volumes positions her as someone who holds an answer to a lot of questions about what is going on. What is Ozpin up to? What happened to Summer? What does Raven know that makes her not go along with Ozpin? Even when Qrow talks about her in V3 he doesn't completely discount her position merely framing it as a point of view.
She's built up as a huge chance for actual moral ambiguity within the story and for some actual genuine answers of what is going on.
Then the show wastes all of that because it doesn't know what to do with her.
Raven's reveals to this date are some of the most anticlimactic things in the WHOLE show only topped by the awful reveal of how the moon broke.
I didn't expect them to exactly "justify" her leaving, but expecting a character tied up in so many mysteries to be treated as a priority and to be done with respect and depth is only normal.
Giving her a genuinely well thought out reason for going against Ozpin would have done A LOT in making the story more interesting.
I don't necessarily think one would need to justify what she did to Yang (leaving and all), because portraying her as conflicting and ambiguous character would be enough if her story arc is done well. Doing a coherent and interesting story arc about Raven that actually answers a lot of teased questions is extremely important part of the overall narrative upon which a LOT of story threads hinged on. In fact her having interesting and complex motivation for leaving WHILE not having an excuse for it and what it did to Yang's life only would have made her all the more interesting. She should not be excused but she SHOULD be an ambiguous and flawed person.
Personally when trying to redo her story, the first thing I did was write down the overall "offscreen" arc that her character walked till the start of the show - a vague idea of how she and Qrow grew up, how did they get mixed up with Ozpin's crew, what was Raven's worldview back then, how and why did it change enough to work for Ozpin and how and why it all changed enough for her to leave to an outright another continent for years.
In my draft, Raven and Qrow don't quite remember who their real parents were. After a house fire, as toddlers, they were taken by a shady local merchant running a sort-of-orphanage. The said merchant would force the orphans in his care to pickpocket and act as beggars. The siblings spent their childhood fighting for food and survival only really having each other to rely on. Both drew pretty different conclusions from such life as Qrow learned to extremely value friendships and relationships one builds and Raven - the importance of standing up for oneself when you can't rely on anyone else. Both were scarred by the life they led, but Qrow inadvertently found himself more willing to trust people who he thought "deserved it", while Raven found it hard to connect to people at all.
As teenagers, they, fed up with it all, ended up stealing the old merchant's money and, as stowaways in a cargo ship, escaping to Vale, where they, as thieves, eventually were found by Ozpin who offered them a second chance at a better life at Beacon. There both of them would eventually meet Summer and Tai and slowly start working as a team. Eventually, due to silver eyes, Summer ended up at Ozpin's inner circle and so did Qrow and, begrudgingly, Raven. What ended up happening between then and Summer's fate, broke the team apart and shook Raven the most. After all, someone who finds it hard to trust others, would have a far more adverse reaction when that trust is broken. In her eyes, Ozpin's path is just more lies and while, with all the information available to her, she could understand why, she found herself no longer able to trust his judgement, viewing his overall course of action as nothing but a mistake. Instinctively and spontaneously, in the heat of the moment, Raven made the decision to leave, to be somewhere other than in the middle of Ozpin's domain, bound by Ozpin's rules, ideas and (intentional and unintentional) manipulation and before she knew she ended up back in Mistral retracing the steps back to where her and Qrow's paths started, searching for a path she felt comfortable in walking. Qrow on other hand still stuck with Ozpin - while he could understand Raven's point of view, he simply still saw no other way than following Ozpin.
In the end the relationship between siblings right now is "complicated" - they don't agree with each other, but they don't really hate each other and they can see how each of them arrived at their conclusions. The Fall of Beacon felt like a sign to them - for Raven it reaffirmed the path she is walking and for Qrow, it left him with a heavy burden and a sense of desperation, thus leading both to act.
So yeah, both Branwen siblings deserved better arcs and better plot relevance that would have fit their build up.

why am I doing this to myself
...it's another episode of "Fixing RWBY". To recap this trainwreck of a rewrite: we spent several episodes on Celtic Phoenix's fetishization of Asian culture, stalling the plot for no good reason; we had numerous scenes that were only about making Roman Torchwick look cool; Adam showed up on the Argus Limited train and the men told Team RWBY to stay in the kitchen; then Adam caused the train to derail and Team RWBY barely survived the aftermath with their companions' aid because Celtic Phoenix hates women being protagonists.
Now it's time for the Lost Fable, which compose "episodes" six and seven of Fixing RWBY. A reminder that this was Episode Three of V6 proper, showing how padded to hell this "rewrite" is.
Anyway...
Celtic Phoenix starts off by taking grave offense over...Salem supposedly looking too old in Fairy Tales of Remnant. Really. (I feel like pointing out that this is a guy who has written explicit Madoka Magica fanfics, if you want to know where he's coming from.)
Anyway, the story's effectively the same, it tells about Ozma and Salem getting together…and then reveals the framing device to be NEO READING THE GIRL IN THE TOWER. Because remember, Neo is one of the few female characters Celtic Phoenix likes because she's subservient to the character he made into his self-insert.
Then it shifts into a young Yang being read the story, followed by older Yang reading it herself, then a young Blake. So basically, the only real difference in this "rewrite", this "fixing" of the show, is an incredibly awkward, pointless, and confusing framing device.
In fact, I'm not going to summarize any more of this, for the obvious reason we've all become accustomed to. This might be surprising to folks who are unfamiliar with this trainwreck, but I really do need to drive home the fact that, in this rewrite of this supposed-so-awful story, where Celtic Phoenix bitched about "must I fix everything?" at the start of this video because a female character didn't look underage enough for his liking,
THE ENTIRE SALEM BACKSTORY IS ALMOST EXACTLY THE SAME AS CANON. THERE ARE NO MEANINGFUL DIFFERENCES IN THIS WHATSOEVER.
You know what this episode actually is?
It's Celtic Phoenix trying to rip off Fairy Tales of Remnant. Except that worked because each tale was a self-contained story, even as their themes and subjects pertained to the worldbuilding and story of RWBY.
Here, what we get is a disoriented and bizarre framing device that interrupts the story for no benefit whatsoever. It adds nothing to the reveal of Ozpin's past to have these scenes of characters randomly reading stories. It's a nonsensical way to handle Jinn telling the characters about Ozma and Salem's history.
But most telling is the way the story handles the framing device, and the order of the characters shown. Because the emphasis isn't on Team RWBY, by having any of their members be the first or last taking part in the framing device. Rather, it's Neo that starts it off and Qrow that concludes it.
Then at the end Beowulves show up, Team RWBY can't fight because their weapons are damaged (because Celtic Phoenix desperately wants to keep THE MAIN FUCKING CHARACTERS of this show from actually doing ANYTHING), but Maria shows up. End of episode.
Once again we're reminded of the fact that this is a guy who insists that everything about RWBY is so horrible and terrible, yet 99% of his rewrite is just rehashing the series note-for-note, just without the female leads having any agency whatsoever—and now we can add "ripping off the spin-off" to the list.
Talentless hack.

Qrow Branwen x OC/Reader: Saving Grace.
Trigger Warning: Mentions of Domestic Abuse and alcohol usage along with depictions of physical harm. This excerpt is inspired by personal work I've written for my own OC, but translated to a POV piece. "You've been working an awful lot this past month." Gruff yet comforting words coming from your colleague who you could tell by the way he often interacted with you, trying to be a little bit more than colleagues. A little bit of work place romance. Unfortunately for both you and him, it wasn't a thing that was possible. You're taken and committed. At least you try to be, but it can be hard sometimes... "Qrow, please tell me you're not about to lecture me about kicking back and relaxing for a change-" "Well someone has to! I used to see you at the bar once a week, but this is the first time you've been here in three-" "I know, I know... It's just how I have to be. We can't afford to live otherwise." Qrow couldn't help but roll his eyes upon hearing of her financial situation. "Why not put that dead beat boyfriend of yours to work? After all, he isn't much good for anything else."
"Hey now-"
"Look. I'm sorry. I know you like the guy, but I can't stand him..." "Oh... I've noticed..." "He's all hoity toity, acting like he's better than everyone. Likes to act all nice and sweet, but you can tell he's stuck up-" "Oh come on Qrow~ I know you're not the biggest fan of him, but give yourself time. You'll warm up to him, I'm sure!" "And don't get me started on how you've changed since you got back with him..." You can't help but feel a little confused by Qrow's words. Had you really begun to change that much to him in his eyes??? "W-what do you mean by that??? I'm really confused." "Come on-, you think I haven't noticed? You seem like you're unhappy. Maybe it's all the work, maybe it's something else. But you've been out of it. It also seems like you're doing everything not to go home, which is why you're working so much." "Jeez, mister therapist. Didn't know you could read my mind." "Heh-. No mind reading involved hun, I can just read you really well." "Is that so?" You couldn't help but smile a bit. Thing is Qrow wasn't off. Part of the reason you're sitting at this bar right now is because you finished everything you needed to do early, and what better way to spend your time than at the bottom of the bottle with your dearest friend? "We've been friends since Beacon. I know you better than anyone else. At least I'd like to think so. I can read you like an open book... Be honest with me, you aren't happy, are you?" Qrow is now completely turned to you in his stool, his drink the least of his concern now, instead putting you first. It makes you so happy that he cares so deeply, but then you remember everything and how it matters not in the end, because you could never express it. Your bones begin to ache with dread. You rub your arms nervously, not daring to flinch at the pain as your hand slides over the bumps and bruises hidden under your long sleeve. You turn away from Qrow, trying to further prevent false hope and dread from a beautiful thing that could never be...
Qrow realizing that his concern could not be reciprocated turned back to his drink, swishing around the ice in the glass, as only a small sip remained of the dark, syrupy, remedy that he used to often bury his own demons. You couldn't help but notice as his concerned glances directed at the glass in front of him quickly changed to that of anger. He wasn't going to give up just yet. "I take that as a no." "Why does my relationship with another man matter to you? You shouldn't concern yourself with such things."
"Because you're my friend, and I care. I thought that was obvious-"
"I get that, but what about my love life of all things." "Because if he's-!" Qrow stops and grits his teeth, trying not to utter the words. He only suspected things. He didn't want to chase you away with unfounded accusations, especially if they were true. Over the years you had begun to close yourself off from many of people when your boyfriend entered the picture. Qrow was the only string you couldn't truly bring yourself to cut. After all, you were a source of comfort for him when he felt out of place at Beacon. He even trusted you with his darkest secret and his deepest regret. Not only did it hurt you to even think of breaking away from him, but you sometimes worried that he would take it the hardest if you just suddenly stopped being there. Qrow wasn't the kind of man to walk away from you either even if you had begun to change in front of him. He was easily your most loyal person in your life. He couldn't bare the idea of losing you... "I just want you to be happy... you deserve that after all these years..."
"I-... I am happy. I'm happy because you make me happy. I just wish things weren't so complicated..." "I remember you being so bright and beautiful. You glowed everywhere you went, and you still do, but it seems like that light is dimming. I worried he's keeping you down. Keeping you from shining your best... God, I sound cheesy... But do you understand what I mean?" "Yeah... I was a lot more confident... less self conscious" "A lot less. It feels like he's keeping you down. And I want to help you so damn bad, but I can't if you don't talk to me..." Your face... it's so hot... and your cheeks feel enflamed. They must be a blush pink right about now... "It's uh... It's not cheesy... it's just really uh... how do I put it..."
"Really sweet? Sickeningly poetic? Yeah, I don't know how I did it. It's just how I felt."
"R-romantic... It's really romantic..."
Qrow now seems to be in the same boat as you, his cheeks a bright red pink, his hand coming up to rub the back of his head embarrassingly. Did it really show that bad? His feelings for you??? "It's really how you felt???" You can't help but push him on the subject. You knew he harbored feelings. He could never bring himself to stop talking when he was drunk. Would always praise the earth you walked on. He'd remind you how beautiful you were and how everybody was out of your league, because you were just too amazing. Of course it would always follow with ramblings about how you could do soooo much better than your current boyfriend, but the sentiment was still there. Now, you just wanted to hear it again while he was sober- er well... mentally there, and not just rambling in a drunken stooper. "W-well obviously! I didn't say it for my health. When have I ever done anything that's "good for me"?" "And you tell me I should be more mindful of myself???" "Hey now- There's no saving me. You on the other hand? That's a different story..." "Well maybe there is! You just have to find that thing that pushes you in the right direction, ya know???" "Yeah... You..." You can't help but giggle a little bit. "Now that's cheesy~" "Hey now. I'm poorin out my guts to you and you're laughing at me?" A playful smirk peaked on the man's face, as he sipped the last of his cup, though not as enjoyable as the ice had melted a fair amount into it, watering it down." "Sorry... I couldn't help myself..." "But seriously hun. I'm you're biggest fan, your most loyal friend, I'm here for you when you need me. So please... Promise me if you need help, you'll come to me? Don't sell yourself short for anyone. Please? For me?" You can't help but feel overwhelmed now. You're so happy but your heart hurts too. Truth is, Qrow has always been your only source of kindness, meeting in secret to keep your boyfriend off your back, merely being friends sitting at the bar. You're used to curses and obesities thrown in your direction. lack of acknowledgements of efforts and implications of your uselessness. The kind words are bliss in your miserable life. The cuts and bruises, the broken bones- They are so easily soothed by the soft affections of the man who accompanies you at the bar once a week. The man you grew with during your pursuit of a career as a huntsman/huntress. You have tears in your eyes, and they won't stop coming down. Qrow is quick to act, getting off of his stool and pulling you into a embrace from behind as you had buried your face into the counter. Guess you couldn't help yourself. Everything had just began to overflow. You soon are able to lift your head from the table and turn to Qrow, hiding your face in his chest. He too gets carried away by your sudden outburst, lifting you from the stool, and taking you over to a secluded table out of site and mind from prying eyes, just holding you there in his lap, doing anything he can to comfort you. Kisses on the forehead, caressing of your hair and face. Anything he can to let you know he's here to stay, and no shitty boyfriend would ever get in the way of that. "Can I please just take you home with me? I don't want you to go back..." "But can we really??? I mean... what if he finds out???" "I don't mean like that... I'm not that kind of man. Jeez... I'm worried if you go back, you aren't coming back... That TERRIFIES ME." You two just sit there quietly, still holding each other close... "But what would happen if I did go home with you???" "You'd never go back to him. I'd love you so much you wouldn't want to go back. I'd be there to wipe your tears away, to hold you, to let you know just how beautiful and amazing you are every day. You'd know damn well how much you mean to me. You wouldn't have to question if you're happy..." "I-... You really mean that??? Really? Things could be different?

Stuff I dig about your OC's TA jaunt excerpt, in no particular order: (1) good range of third-person perspectives/voices; (2) the Mower Incident; (3) Biff-er, Cardin's crap not going unnoticed; (4) Blake getting a bit back WRT Weiss' Company Heir screeds; (5) Fei also a bit put on-the-spot by the Doc. Finally, put my vote down for a full-bore school supply duel (papercut aura slashes? dual-wield staple gunplay? Protractor fencing?).
Aw, thank you! I appreciate the compliments!
(1) This chapter takes place relatively early in the story (iirc the scene's in chapter 10 and I've written about 105 overall), so one of my priorities here was establishing the distinct character voices. Yang is different from Ruby who is different from Blake who is different from Weiss who is different from -
and I wanted both their internal narration and external dialogue to both reflect that and remain consistent with what we know of how they speak and think and act and feel in the show. If I can't imagine a character saying a line with the actual voice and inflection and word choice they use in the show, I'll scrap it or rework it until I can.
(2) Yang and Ruby are both accomplished engineers and habitual troublemakers, you cannot convince me they didn't test out their newfound knowledge and skills on the most readily-available household appliances, much to their father's chagrin. You also can't convince me that Qrow did not encourage them enthusiastically, partly because he wants to be the cool uncle, partly because he genuinely enjoys seeing them be happy and learn, and partly because he wants to antagonize Tai.
(3) That was important because Cardin's crap doesn't exactly go unnoticed in canon proper either. The main characters think his behavior is deplorable, but they don't really step in to stop it, and neither do the staff. The explanation this fic posits for that is, essentially, that this is a Huntsman Academy, and thus that anyone who can't defend themselves and is too proud to ask for help had better find a way to deal with that in a relatively safe environment before they go out into the field. Huntsmen need to be strong, good at working with others, or both, and there's no room on the battlefield for stubborn pride. Better to let them learn this lesson now than when lives are at stake.
(4) Yeah, so, like, I've been pretty vocal about my disappointment in the way Weiss's racism and Blake's racial activism have been handled in canon, so one of my goals with his story was to remember that these are, in fact, elements of their characters that exist for more than two episodes and would logically cause friction between them, especially early on before they were able to bond and reach an understanding and Weiss started putting in the effort to change and be better. I wanted that change to be more gradual in this story than it was in the show, with Weiss acknowledging that she's trying her best and still making mistakes (and not even recognizing some of the mistakes she's making) and Blake acknowledging that Weiss means well and is making the effort but still messes up and needs correction, rather than the very... abrupt... transition Weiss makes from "racist" to "not racist".
Also, Atlas sucks and Blake deserves the chance to clap back at it, because she sure as hell didn't get the opportunity when the narrative actually traveled there
(5) That was actually Ozpin's idea. I looked at his entry on the wiki and apparently he likes introducing chaos and studying the significance of people's choices (iirc we got this information from the CFVY books I haven't read), so I figured things were getting a little too easy for Feilan and had Ozpin ask Oobleck to shake things up a bit. This was also meant to show that while he's not, like, fully prepared to be a leader or a mentor at this (early) stage of his development, he does have the innate ability to think quickly and respond to changing circumstances.
Also yeah I feel like someone should get to stab Cardin with a pen John Wick style but I have plans for him so he gets to live another day
Thank you once again for the feedback!

V3 was finished, and I'm still not ok you guys : D
One would think it would get less painful as time goes on, but nope, still hurts like a bitch. Well done RT, well done.
I gotta start by saying the I may fall fighting sequence will forever have a special place in my heart. The moment we finally understood the lyrics to that song, the moment we finally saw Velvet fighting to her full potential, the callback to the trailers and everything Monty put into this show, the moment Weiss finally was able to summon her knight. It was perfection.
Also, the part were the music drops as Velvet calls on Penny's backpack will always make me tear up, and I always enjoy seeing the same in reactors lol we're a cruel fandom, but it's just because we understand.
Another also; the fact that Weiss just ran straight to put herself in between Velvet and the palladin even before she knew she could summon or that the knight would show up. That's growth. I felt so proud of her, she has come so far<3
Cinder saying 'not a foot out of place' and then Amber discovers them for Emmerald's foot raisikg diste, can't believe I hadn't caught that lol. I wonder how much things would've been different if that didn't happen, because it looks like the rest of plans were already in motion by the point Cinder went after the Powers...
Could've we have Pyrrha still if Cinder had killed Amber in time? I feel horrible for asking, but hey, it's Pyrrha.
I gotta say that as much as Adam is garbage and I always remember him with this picture:
Tumblr media
His design is so fucking cool... I've always loved his hair honestly, and the Rose design in his jacket? Amazing. Why do cool designs happen to awful people?
That pink apron saying 'Please do nothing to the cook' made me headcanon Ren as a Birromantic Ace, I still think the headcanon makes sense so I hold it lol. Also, I still want one of those aprons, my girl is Ace and she loves pink lol.
I always thought it was so cool and sad how so many storylines got interrupted or just never started thanks to the fall of Beacon. We never got to know what Penny's plan to stay at Beacon was. We didn't get to see the timelime where Yang ran away with Qrow to meet Raven. Arkos was barely trying to raise from the ground when it was shot down. So many little plans that can't be anymore, because that's life.
I know it's a very serious moment but I can't watch the scene when Yang calls Blake to make sure they're ok and ask for Ruby, and not remember when Arryn and Barbara said that Blake and Yang are probably always on a facecall with eachother lol.
Tell me I wasn't the only one who thought Port and Oobleck were gonna die when they told the kids to leave the coliseum? I remember being so sad when Port said 'one final match! Place your bets!' and I couldn't believe it when they appeared again during chapter 12 lol. I'm happy they didn't die, they're so great <3
Speaking of 12. I still can't believe they released that chapter on fucking February 14th. That was just cruel...
Yes I'm avoiding talking about Penny... I just can't, sorry.
Kevin the Wyvern grim is a friend <3 I would totally buy a plush of him if shipping to México wasn't so ridiculously expensive </3
Honestly why aren't there more grimm plushies? They're like Pokémon but Black and white and more deadly!
I.. I gotta go ahead and say It... I really, reaaaaally don't like Taiyang... Sorry, but I have never liked him, don't think I ever will... Never considered him a great or cool dad, kinda feel he only gets that rep because of Burnie. Burnie's cool, but Tai's not for me*shrugs*
Qrow saying that 'sometimes bad things just happen, you just have to move on' after knowing about her semblance is painful. This volume is just full of pain.
THE FUCKIN' MAPLE LEAF!!!!!
Cold being a song about Monty that also perfecto fits Pyrrha it's so heartbreakingly poetic to me... THE world is cruel, but sometimes there's beauty in that cruelness.
As a side note is it weird to get a tattoo of someones signature? I've always wanted to get something to honor RWBY and Monty and his signature is so cool...other ideas include a couple lyrics from Indomitable or Penny's symbol
Emmerald's face when she says 'it's almost sad' was the moment we knew she would get her redemtion. Girl's just alone and needing friends, I'm happy to know where She's gonna end later. I still think we must protect Emmerald.
Seriously I didn't remember how much I missed seeing Pyrrha fight until I saw her again. I wish we could see her again!
Speaking of things I wish we could see again: Roman and Neo fighting together was so great, it's a shame we only got one fight with them. Also, I miss how much Neo used to loved causing mayhem with Roman. Neo in the newer volumes always looks so angry and sad, she literally lost the one thing that gave her happiness </3
Seriously why do Robots eyes' always turn red when they go evil? Lol.
Yang talking to Ruby on that last scene Is the literal embodiment of "I don't care, I say caringly, while I care a lot."
Blake why you must hurt your girl so much? And we're now into the separated Bees period! I loved this period of the fandom lol.
Ironwood against the beowolf is honestly pretty epic. Good job RT, you really sold us the character there.
Remember when we saw the Arkos kiss, and that was the moment we knew Pyrrha was not making it out alive? Yeah, that sucked... And still does.
Divide Is probably my favorite ending credits song to this day. It's epic, it's dark, I love how we got all that insight towards Salem just after meeting her. Definitely a fave. Also, Salem's reveal scene always gives me chills<3 Another favorite part to watch reactors get to.
The call back to players and pieces with Ruby running up the wall<3 I was so happy for a second, then it stopped. I haven't been happyever since (?
And so it starts the very long list of things that Ruby needs years of therapy for. I hope that girl gets the happiest, more perfect life after all this is over. Protect the RuBean. And honestly just give everyone therapy. In a world where negative emotions are literally a magnet for death you would think people would try to take better care of their mental health.
Oh yeah, also. People who get mad at Jaune for getting distracted at the vault:. Dont talk to me. Jaune doesn't deserve that hate, I know I wouldn't fared any better, cut him some slack on this.
And there's that... Fuck this volume hurts. Great thing we got chibi to help with the pain a little lol.
Anyways, thanks for the talk guys! Next one is v4! Spoiler Bout that: I was so traumatized by 3 that I 100% thought Ren or Nora were dying on that finale. Thanks for that CRWBY.

I don't even understand why just Ironwood was depicted as being evil in the council. Do the writers know that the reason the world is so fucked up is because there are multiple people in power who are awful and against the rights of marginalized people? Do they not realize that even if all of our authorities at the moment were good people, oppressive systems will still exist and getting rid of one bad person who takes advantage of them is not going to fix those systems? And why are there only five people on the council anyway? What do they do? Why is this dictatorship government so damn small? Why couldn't the plot be about the main characters ACTUALLY helping mantle because the vast majority of those in power are refusing to? It would have been so easy! Just think:
(long ass rewrite warning)
Jaques is already on the council by the time the main characters get there, and he's the main villain of the volume. His goal is to get rid of Ironwood because he already doesn't like him and he wants to get revenge for Ironwood cutting off his money supply and stealing his daughter. Watts is working with him, helping Jaques achieve his goals by stealing information to help make Ironwood look bad to the council, but he also wants to get rid of Ironwood because Ironwood is the only person who is capable of helping to defeat Salem.
The lead characters get split up into a few different plots. Blake discovers that the tensions between the Faunus and Humans in Mantle are extremely high due to Jaques monopolizing more businesses in response to the Embargo and causing a job shortage. She spends most of her time trying to peacefully work things out with them, trying to make sure that she's stopping Faunus subjugation in a non violent way that can create a better future for both faunus and humans.
Yang will spend her time with Penny and Pietro, learning about prosthetics and deal with some of the lingering trauma which Pietro, a man who works with amputees daily as a profession, will give her some clinical advice and also hint at an Ironwood backstory.
Weiss will decide to help take down her father and try to learn more about what he's doing in an attempt to stop him. She will meet May Marigold, who is still with her family, but using her position as an atlas elite to allow the happy Huntresses to steal dust and money from the rich and give these supplies to the poor down in mantel. (In this version of the story, Robyn Hill will be more like Eda Clawthorn from TOH) seeing someone in a high position using her position to help the poor, Weiss is inspired to try to fit back in with her family, going under cover to get to the bottom of Jaques's scheme (and also allowing her to see her mother and brother in a new light and reconnect with them without forgiving her mother immediately and treating her brother worse than her father treated her)
And finally, Ruby, Oscar, and Qrow will be with Ironwood. He will primarily want to speak with them because he views them as the most important in regards to the war. Seeing as how Oscar is Ozpin, Qrow is part of the original inner circle, and Ruby has silver eyes, which he believes will be important in his plan to defeat Salem. They will interact with Ironwood the most, and have a bunch of meetings both with him and without him to discuss their feelings on the situation.
I'm going to keep Ruby lying to Ironwood. I will have her hypocrisy be known, or have her be the only character that really understood why Oz would lie and is having a semi corruption arc because main characters should be allowed to make mistakes. I would even say that she doesn't actually lie about the lamp, but she doesn't tell him about Salem's immortality. The others call her out on lying by omission, but she explains her reasoning is because she recognizes that Ironwood's plan is being created under the impression that he thinks that Salem can be killed and she's afraid that if he knew the truth, he would stop working on the plan and then they won't be able to unite humanity anymore. (I don't mind Ruby making a mistake and lying to her ally, what I mind is that the show doesn't seem to realize she made a mistake and she never has a good reason for doing it)
The reason I want to keep her lying about the Lamp is because I think that Salem should be able to manipulate Ironwood into thinking that Team RWBY is actually against him and working for her. That way Salem will still be the big bad who is turning humanity against each other, and Team RWBY is right, but in a bad situation due to their own mistakes making them less trustworthy, and Ironwood isn't evil, just being manipulated by the main bad guy.
And then Vol 8 will have Team RWBY trying to fight Grimm hordes while avoiding atlas soldiers who think they're traitors, and trying to get through to Ironwood and get him back on their side while Ruby does whatever it takes to make up for her mistake.
Boom.
(couldn't think of what JNR should be doing because I don't care)
Hey anon!! It's very lazy and careless of CRWBY to insist that ONE person is responsible for all of Atlas's problems and the peoples suffering. Life never works that way. It is caused by an overall failure of many people failing to stop corruption and one good person cannot magically fix that. Star Wars TCW handles an arc like this a million percent better with Satine discovering corruption after corruption within Mandalore making things worse for the citizens and it becomes very difficult for her to know who to trust. We could have had something similar with James, have him not sure if he can trust the council and needing the Ace Ops and Winter and Penny as the only people he can trust because he doesn't know who Jacques owns vs who is just in general a terrible person vs who is trustworthy and really wants to make things better.
As for your ideas I really like them a lot! Actually give some fucking character development to the mains! I am not crazy about Blake's arc with the Faunus but CRWBY has handled it so poorly I am not sure how to better handle it but outside of that everything sounds really good!
I agree Ruby lying isn't necessarily a bad thing, the show just needs to acknowledge that Ruby did in fact make a mistake in lying. It is okay for a character to make mistakes and screw up and have a need to learn and grow. It actually makes a character more relatable because it humanizes them and makes them feel alive.
Also YES PLEASE we need to see Salem being an actual threat and manipulating things from behind the scenes. Make her someone dangerous and an actual threat because the show as is has only done things to make her less threatening. We should also be making Ruby actually be the light of Remnant who will unite everyone and what better place to start then the person she betrayed and caused a massive divide between them. Their was just so much missing in volumes 7 and 8 and so much that was mishandled and not used well. I like a lot of volume 7 but their were still major flaws within the script.
It's sad how easy it would be to fix so many problems but CRWBY just.....didn't.

I Ask Respectively for
Aak from Arknights
Krika from Bionicle
Maria Calavera from RWBY
Heimerdinger from Arcane
Rarity from My little pony
Quite the group of character. All people who witnessed dire situations and came out of it defeated in some way.
Except rarity. She is just goals.
Oh dang, that's a lot. Lemme put this under a readmore:
Aak:
Tumblr media
I don't really like Aak all that much, but I'll also freely admit that I don't really have a good reason for it? I just didn't care for his vibes from the outset, then people paying more attention to him over Nian during their shared banner soured me against him further, and then people shipping him with Warfarin over their genuinely hostile rivalry thing made me actively hate him for a while.
Nowadays, my opinion has eased off considerably; I find his gimmick of attacking other Operators a hilarious expression of his character even if it ensures I'd never, ever use him even if I had him, and the Lee's Detective Agency animated short made me reluctantly admit that he does play off of Waai Fu and Hung well, and so I can kinda enjoy him in that context. I don't know a lot of his deeper backstory, so idk how he connects to the "defeated by a dire situation" motif, but that does sound intriguing.
In short, I don't think he's ever going to be a character I come to like, per say, but he's at least grown on me enough for me to enjoy what he brings to the table, in small doses at least. Still not a fan of him and Warfarin, though.
Krika:
Tumblr media
Krika is in kind of a weird spot for me. I really really enjoy his character, he's definitely up there among Bionicle's wide cast, and one of the genuinely compelling and well-written villains during a period where most of the others were stuck in Greg's cookie cutter mould of edgy gleeful mass murderers, and also he was the first set from the 08 waves I got. I really do love him.
All the same, he kinda fades into the background for me a lot of the time unless I'm actively reminded of his existence. This is probably partially because, as I've said many a time before, the Ignition Trilogy just isn't exactly my favorite era of Bionicle, but part of it may also be that he was there and gone so relatively quickly that I didn't really get to form as much of an attachment before the inherent tragedy of his character role and arc struck. The fact that his death happened only a year after Matoro's didn't help any, even if the contexts were radically different.
I wouldn't necessarily call him overrated, strictly, but it does feel sometimes like he's rated juuuust slightly above where he actually should be, if that makes any sense. Also, I'm a hypocrite who will woobiefy and excuse him plenty, but then get annoyed by others doing it, when part of what makes him interesting to me is that his long cricket leg pincer things hands are no cleaner than the other Makuta; he's just the only one that actually cares about how awful they've become.
Personally, I feel like if he'd been given earlier appearances and more set-up in the preceding years, (not that that could have really happened given the course of the planning and development cycles for the toys) or some form of retroactive further development somehow, (either through a ressurection or a flashback serial or something) then he would more fully earn all the praises he gets. As is, he's still a fantastic character, just lacking the kind of staying power he deserves.
Maria:
Tumblr media
I don't have a whole lot to say about her. She's a great character, especially for such a late addition, and fills her mentor role really well, reflecting off of both Ruby and Qrow really well. (It would be cool to see more of her younger exploits, but at the same time it doesn't feel necessary, you know?) Plus, she's just amazingly fun to see in action, bantering with the kids, being the perfect matchup to give Neo a much-needed asskicking (I say this as a Neo stan) and also imparting the genuinely wise insight at just the right times. I understand why she got Put On The Bus early into Volume 8, but I still really miss her and want to see more of her.
Heimerdinger:
Tumblr media
I really like this guy.
Setting his specific character aside for a moment, as a Yordle I think his inclusion as a main cast member for Arcane was pretty genius, honestly. It establishes early that Yordles just Are A Thing, and that even with the adorable chibi proportions and furriness, they are still just as valid as serious dramatic characters as anyone else; had they had Ziggs instead it would be harder to take them seriously, and had they just waited until later altogether, introducing them would feel too dissonant and out of the blue. Establishing right away that this cute guy is not only a leader on the Council but a revered founder of the city, makes telling any other stories involving yordles they may choose to pursue far easier from the outset, at least from an audience perception/suspension of disbelief standpoint.
And then as Heimerdinger specifically, I think he plays a really good role in the story, even if I do sometimes overlook him in favor of the more prominent cast members. His presence as the small-c conservative authority figure in Jayce and Viktor's lives; simultaneously too stuck in the past and ignorant of the present, deeply alien in his perception of time and human mortality, yet not completely unjustified in his fears of Hextech and magic, and being ultimately well-meaning despite his impotence; is as refreshingly nuanced a portrayal of his archetype as the others are of theirs.
I feel like he and Ekko did kinda get the short end of the stick in the finale in some ways, but all the same we didn't necessarily need something bigger and more dramatic when the important part was that they met at all to begin with, and we can see them starting to learn from one another, while any more specific developments are ultimately best saved for season 2.
Fun fact, I initially mistook him for another Yordle character from the game, called Corki, and spent a while during my first watching of Arcane wondering when he'd get his biplane. Turns out that's not really a thing, but all the same, I have to wonder what will lead to him going all-out with the turrets and bombs after the way his character's been developed thus far.
Rarity:
Tumblr media
I love her. Favorite of the Mane 6 (even if Twilight and Applejack are close behind) and just, an absolute icon. I support women's rights, and also women's wrongs, etc; even at her most ridiculous, I would cheer her on. Tabitha St. Germain's skill for whole-heartedly chewing the scenery is like, half the reason she holds up so well in my mind, but even without that, she just lives at a kind of extra I can only aspire towards.
She's also rather personal for me, since her becoming my favorite not only coincided with, but both fueled and reflected my coming to better understand and accept parts of myself. Even aside from that, her struggles as an artist on the show were extremely relatable to me as a writer, (and as it later turned out, also me as someone with adhd, lol.) and sometimes I still invoke her as a Muse when I'm struggling. I own a plushie of her. I miss her, Tails, I really do.
And I'm kinda salty she did't get to marry Applejack in the series finale, losing out to Rainbow Dash??? Just another reason to be glad I stopped watching after Season 6.
But dang do I really miss her, and one of these days I want to go back.

difference between winter and harriet
youtube comments
Either is poetic or ironic, how Harriet's speech about duty is what awoke a new ability within Ren's Semblance. I like to think that her words triggered his anger because that how used to think and act, and that made him realize how ridiculous that sounded, because feelings is part of one self, and is important to aknowledging it, not surpressing it.
It's unfortunately another reason why Atlas is weaker than most modern militaries. Modern military you can question and refuse orders if they are immoral or illegal.
Technically there's no evidence that that's not the case in Atlas, but I think when Ironwood started acting all nutso people were too scared of him to speak up. I mean, Marrow did and Ironwood was gonna shoot him in the fucking head
Well Ironwood did snap and became full on dictator and we all know dictators don't allow people to question them. Ironwood was pretty resonable before he snapped though.  Plus, if you don't question an immoral order, you can eventually find yourself convicted of a war crime.  Nuhremburg set the standard that just following orders isn't a valid defense.
It’s almost as if rigidly and uncritically following insane orders is a really bad thing!
Personally I don't think Harriet wasn't hiding behind "Duty" I think by the time Clover Died, she was just utterly broken from his death, she was trying to hold her emotions in check but she was also scared out of her mind, you could see it on her face. And so she made the same Mistake as Ironwood, she allowed Fear to cloud her judgement. You can tell the moment she realized that when the other Ace Ops were trying to stop her, she realized she had been on the wrong side. I think inwardly, she is a good person, but she's been fighting for so long, watching friends and loved ones die, that she tried to stop feeling anything but Anger because lashing out is much easier then confronting your emotions. She almost said it well talking to Vine, "Clover was the Best of Us." And now she has a whole new reason to fight, a whole new reason to keep going, not just to honor the memory of her friends she's lost but to make amends for the awful things she did. Like Winter she realized she was wrong, and I think when she makes a reappearance she will be all the much more dedicated for it. and she'll come out of the Fall of Atlas a more mature person.
Clover's death had a huge impact on Harriet, and she connected that to her sense of duty, thinking that anyone who questioned her or Ironwood was basically mocking Clover's death. She double-downed on her duty because she didn't see the rest of her team as friends even though she did care about them and didn't know how to properly process it. Winter is different because she not only has her sense of duty, she allows herself to feel and establish bonds with others, notably Penny and Weiss.
It can be. Ironwood let Fear cloud his judgement, same as she did, Fear leads to Anger, Anger leads to Hate, Hate, leads to Suffering. She let the fear of Salem cloud her judgement, she let her anger over Clovers Death consume her, she let the hate of Qrow, Ruby and the others turn her into something she wasn't. and when she finally realized what she was doing, she suffered not only losing Clover but Vine as well, her home, possibly her family, lashing out, hiding your feelings behind anger is much easier than facing your emotions. that's the lesson here.Show less

I’m afraid so Ozma. It’s Ozpin’s daughter, Qorbyn. Her necro magic has been literally every type there is, and it keeps shifting. -🐈‍⬛
Ozma: I do recall Ozpin saying that he was having difficulties teaching her how to use her necromancy.
I did not realize the extent of it.
Perhaps it is a defect of sorts, her magic may have not developed correctly, for one reason or another. I do recall her early childhood being rather… traumatic.
Trauma in the early stages of life can most definitely effect the way a child’s necromancy develops.
If memory serves me, Ozpin’s necromancy had been the same way before he had inherited my magic due to his own trauma, my magic seemed to have stabilized his own. However after he was in the prison, he was unable to use his necromancy until his final year at Beacon without it hurting him in some way. He gained my magic when he was maybe 12.
I know Qrow’s magic also materialized in an aggressive way not just because of his lineage but possibly because of his upbringing, magic is connected to feeling after all. If he felt as if he needed to protect himself then it makes since that it would be aggressive type.
So it’s entirely possibly that it could be three things, a genetic defect, trauma in her early life, or simply her family lineage with necromancy.
I feel awful for the poor girl.

Five Minutes
Robyn x Qrow ( @littleblackqrow ) (tw: suggestive)
“Seriously?” Robyn whips her head around with an irritated look, “That’s where your head’s at right now?”
“I’m just trying to feel something other than anger and an overwhelming need for revenge, but its kind of left my head all over the place at the moment.” And it didn't help that Qrow still had the feeling of her glove’s fuzz on his lips.
She feels for him too, she does. But they’re getting closer to the main halls of the academy, and don’t have the luxury of time while in the middle of a sudden civil war also in the middle of a world war.
He could finish crying it out later. or… whatever other fluids he needed to get out.
Brothers, why is Robyn thinking about this.
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
"Soo.... I know we're a little busy right now, but uh. I didn't hate being shoved against the wall earlier." Nice tension breaker. Idiot.
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
Tumblr media
“Seriously?” Robyn whips her head around with an irritated look. She had just gotten him to stop squawking, and now here she is calling out their location with another shrill sound. She corrects herself, dipping back into a whisper, “That’s where your head’s at right now?”
Words might be up for interpretation, but she can tell by tone of voice what he meant.
At least he’s honest.
“Sheesh,” purple eyes roll before finding their next target, next step forward. Maybe her inflection has something of an insinuation, a subtext, too, but she looks ahead while she speaks, “Focus, Five O’Clock. Enough to help us get out of here with ourselves and Mantle in one, alive, piece, and I’ll push you over the edge of Atlas if it’ll make you happy.”
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
Tumblr media
Don’t threaten him with a good time-
“Sorry,” Qrow laughed, awkward and quiet, as he ran beside her, Harbinger held low and at the ready. “I’ve just been. Thinking about what you said.” And also thinking about being slammed into the wall, that thought just kept coming back for some reason.
“And I’m just trying to feel something other than anger and an overwhelming need for revenge, but its kind of left my head all over the place at the moment.” And it didnt help that he still had the feeling of her glove’s fuzz on his lips.
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
And because he’s thinking about it, that’s got her thinking about it - empathetic through and through. Robyn had only been acting on desperate instinct to not get caught at the time, and the action came and went in her brain until he brought it back up. She had gotten awful close to Qrow, and it wasn’t a terrible or uncomfortable place to be. And his laughter breaking through all the pain he carries still makes her caring heart happy to hear.
A huff of breath trying to keep up from scurrying around still manages to come out as a forceful sigh. Men.
Tumblr media
“Yeah, okay. I get that. We’ve been through a lot in barely a day,” she acknowledges without conceding, voice still firm and brow still furrowed. It’s no time to let stress get the better of them, “But you’re a huntsman, Qrow, a professional. We just went over this. You want to know what to feel? Feel for all the people in Mantle who need saving right now.”
Her next glance over holds more sorrow than anything. Almost a plea, “…That’s what I do.”
She feels for him too, she does. But they’re getting closer to the main halls of the academy, and don’t have the luxury of processing time while in the middle of a sudden civil war also in the middle of a world war.
He could finish crying it out later. or… whatever other fluids he needed to get out.
Brothers, why is she thinking about this
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
Tumblr media
Qrow rubbed his face, and gave himself a small slap, trying to get his head on right. Robyn, as usual, was making great points. There was too much at stake to let revenge get in the way of things, and there was definitely too much going on to get distracted by a pretty woman.
No matter how nice it felt when she touched him. Or how nice she smelled.
“I’m sorry. I promise you I’m not normally like this.” He said, ears burning. “Its been a wild 36 hours. I can keep things professional.” He’d been in this war longer than Yang had been alive, he was definitely not going to let an overactive imagination cause him issues. All he needed to do was keep his head down, eyes peeled, and hope that Robyn came up with her “better way” before they ran into Ironwood.
He’d actually really hate to disappoint her.
“Its just that I just got sober-” he blurted before he could stop himself, and Qrow didnt know if he could blame his own awkward nerves on this, or Misfortune. Keep digging this hole, keep disappointing her. “I. My-” He coughed delicately. “My libido has recently decided to come back, and make up for all that lost time. I’m really not in control of a lot of things right now.” Clearly. “I am perfectly capable of fighting, and helping you save Mantle. What’s going on in my brain has no effect on what my hands can do.”
He winced to himself. After this conversation, there really had been no good way to make that come out and not sound like innuendo.
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
Yep.
He really just said all that.
Single minded in one thing, right to the next. Simple creature.
But considering Robyn’s usually the one who has to do all the digging, it’s kind of nice to hear someone else shoveling their own grave and tossing all the good, gossipy dirt up with reckless abandon. While horrendously inappropriate, it’s also rather… refreshing.
Qrow tries, so hard, and fails so often. And then keeps going anyway. One more thing that makes him a great huntsman in her eyes.
And she’d be lying to say such a world-traveled and renowned one flustering like some academy boy at the thought of her touch didn’t have her feeling some kind of way.
But they really don’t have time for this.
Silence falls between them for a moment; boot steps slow until Robyn halts before the next corridor, and turns to stare at Qrow, scrutinizing. Lets him fester under a look that says do you even hear yourself?
Tumblr media
For nothing she could say would point out any truth he couldn’t already have been made aware of the moment any of those words left his mouth.
A few more beats and flashes of light in the hallway, and Robyn seems to have come to a conclusion; tilts her head and raises her brows as her ponytail falls to the side; shoulders shrug her hands up into the air before they find her hips, and violet gaze returns to its gentle gleam of understanding.
“…Well, it’s better than all that murder in your eyes, anyway. But hooooow about we put our brains and our hands together and figure out our next move, huh?”
That was supposed to sound clever and inspirational, but it just ended up like flirting back, didn’t it? Robyn’s really not a very good speaker when put on the spot…
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
Tumblr media
Believe him, Robyn, Qrow was aware. Being aware, however, did not give Qrow any more advanced social skills than he had, and finding a way out of this hole was getting pretty damn hard. Qrow had always been fantastic about drilling down deep enough to find Dust.
Usually highly volatile raw Dust.
At least her staring him down had halted any more unfortunate word vomit. Qrow took a deep breath, gave her a small, almost nervous, smile. “Right. I can do that.” If they lived through this, they could revisit that conversation. Maybe.
“You already shot down my only goal here. Ironwood deserves to die for the things he’s done, and the things he’s planning to do. I know the man, there’s no way you’re talking him down from something once he’s made up his mind.”
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
Derailed track B. Back on track A. Guess he wasn’t kidding about only being able to feel one thing at a time.
Come on now, Qrow.
Tumblr media
“Deciding who deserves to live and who deserves to die is exactly the problem here. I’m not going to let you be part of it anymore than I’m going to let Ironwood get away with it.“ Her words dance awfully close to being a threat, even if the soft concern of their delivery sounds more like a promise.
But Robyn does promise: stick with her, and Qrow will still have his justice, if not revenge.
Her head pokes out beyond the corner, checking once more to making sure they’re still clear of soldiers either way, and her brow furrows as she thinks, “If we can’t stop the man, then we can at least stop the plan.”
Violet eyes trail down her arm and still-readied weapon, past them, practically trying to peer through into lower floors, “There’s only so many places in this installation that could both safely contain a bomb powerful enough to take out a whole city, as well as keep it ready to deploy at a moment’s notice. There were some hangars like that on those monitors. So I want to ask you first… do you know where they’re at? And second - ”
Her eyes lift from the ground, dragging openly up along Qrow’s figure on the way back up to his face.
It doesn’t take using her semblance to know he’d been at least a little bit lying about his current capacity for containing himself. Yeah, track B was better. And at this point some of his enthusiasm for the topic seems to have spilled over into tingles on her own skin, especially as Qrow proves himself more and more the person she believes him to be.
Robyn suggests with a smirk to the next question, that perhaps there’s some added incentive to doing things her way. …Good thing the cameras are still all on loop.
Tumblr media
“…How long would the elevator take to get there?”
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
Tumblr media
How was a man supposed to function when soft violet eyes were looking at him like that? A half dozen images flitted through his mind, none of them helpful to the mission at hand. Qrow’s throat was suddenly dry, but unfortunately when he’d picked up his flask along with Harbinger, someone had poured out the grape soda and washed out the interior. Damn mold conscious forensic teams.
“Uh.” Hurry, you idiot, dont ruin this chance, a very unhelpful part of him whispered. “H-hanger, right. That should uh. They are all a couple flights below us. If uh. If Misfortune behaves itself, we might get there in… five minutes. Longer if all the buttons are hit and it goes all the way up before coming down.”
Were they really considering this with the entire kingdom at stake? Qrow’s libido was at war with his conscience. Somewhere out there, Yang and Ruby and their friends were in danger, and Qrow was standing here contemplating a quickie. On the other hand, it would clear his mind and get some of the excess nervous energy out. Misfortune had a way of making things so much worse when Qrow was bursting at the seems like this.
“Suppose we’re not going to do be able to do much inside an elevator anyways…”
➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼➼
How is a woman supposed to focus when dangerous eyes plump so uncertain and soft, and a voice once spilling threats starts stuttering in response to only words? His mouth might be dry, but hers is all but salivating. Robyn tried to behave, honestly, but with all these feelings, and her own stresses floating around, and a handful of minutes to spare with no harm… consider her convinced.
Robyn nods with an affirmative huff of air after his direction, and crouches to duck back towards the elevator doors with quiet steps.
She’s no stranger to mid-mission trysts, but usually the surrounding threat and mission basis were more tame.
At the same time, what started off as playing political mediator turned into magic and relics and witches and planes crashing and the world possibly ending and Robyn is fairly certain Qrow is also a crow, so uh. It’s really a shot in the dark what truly makes sense anymore. Lives most certainly hang in the balance of their decisions, but maybe one small creature comfort and a cool-down for both their heads could carry them better through whatever the fight for Mantle threw at them next.
Tumblr media
“Five minutes, then, Five O’Clock.” Robyn’s confidence doesn’t waver.
At least …not until the elevator dings before either one of them had pressed a button, bidding her weapon to snap out on instinct and point towards an unknown enemy hidden behind metal.

Pyrrha Nikos and the Terrible Awful No-Good Idea (to become a Maiden)
When discussing just how flawed, misguided and just plain broken Oz’s, system, methods and ideology was, I think it’s worth analyzing just why he likely selected Pyrrha specifically to become the next Fall Maiden in Volume 3.
Because looking back in hindsight, it does seem a bit odd that Pyrrha was apparently Ozpin’s first choice to succeed Amber. Sure, Pyrrha is THE best fighter of her year, but I think we can all agree that there’s more to selecting a Maiden candidate then simple fighting ability. Up until Volume 3, Ozpin never showed much interest in Team JNPR. Over the course of the Beacon Arc, it is Team RWBY that Ozpin showed a clear interest in, so why not pick one of them to be the next Maiden? Ruby and Yang in particular feel like prime candidates given their parents’ history working with Ozpin. Alternatively, given how After the Fall reveals that Ozpin had a similar interest in Team CFVY as he did to Team RWBY, why not select Coco or Velvet?
My guess to all this is that Ozpin didn’t select anyone from Team RWBY or CFVY to be the next Fall Maiden because those two teams were far too valuable, while Team JNPR was ultimately expendable.
Not in a ‘send them to their deaths’ kind of expendable, but rather that as soon as Pyrrha became a Maiden, Team JNPR would most likely have been disbanded and Pyrrha’s career as a professional huntress would be over.
Look at the common threads between all of the Maidens or Potential Maidens that we’ve seen: Amber, Vernal, Raven, Penny, Winter and Fria. None of these women have a TEAM, nor do they seem to operate openly as a huntress. Ozpin, Glynda, Qrow and Ironwood flat out state that they hide these women and girls away from the world to keep them out of the clutches of those who covet their power, namely Salem. So with that in mind, I think it’s pretty clear that whoever Ozpin chose to be Amber’s successor, that girl’s prospective huntress career would be over. Ozpin, Ironwood, Glynda, Qrow and rest clearly view the Maidens as far too valuable and dangerous to be left operating out in the open as a huntress where they could be found out and targeted. On top of that, it seems like the Ozluminati also keep the Maidens from being on any kind of team, possibly to further limit how many people knew about them.
(And yes, leaving each Maiden all alone without any protection beyond their own powers IS a really bad idea. But then just about EVERYTHING Oz did with the Maidens beyond giving them their powers in the first place seems to have been a BAD IDEA. It’s kind of the point.)
The reason why Ozpin didn’t choose anyone from Team RWBY or CFVY is because he was clearly grooming both teams to be potential successors to Team STRQ. Go-to strike-teams that he could trust and rely on for the most dangerous of missions against the followers of Salem. And for pretty obvious reasons, missions like those are the absolute LAST place Ozpin would want to send a Maiden.
Both Team RWBY and Team CFVY seem to have hit a sweet spot of four very capable, talented fighters who are also all at about the same level of skill and work very well together. Exactly the sort of teams that Ozpin would want out in the field, and by extension, NOT the teams he’d want to break up by making one of their members a Maiden.
But then we have Team JNPR, who did not fit that ‘sweet spot’. Team JNPR during the Beacon Arc consisted of one outstanding fighter, and three middling to above average fighters. Jaune may have had some talent, but during Beacon he was still the textbook definition of a novice. Ren and Nora are certainly talented, but they don’t seem to break out of an ‘above average’ among Beacon students. And as he see in the Vytal Tournament, Team JNPR doesn’t have anything close to the synergy and coordination that Team RWBY has. Heck, even currently in the show JNPR 2.0 hasn’t gotten to the level of flawless teamwork that RWBY has. Just compare JNPR’s fight against Neo to RWBY’s fight against the Ace Ops in Volume 7.
Put another way; Pyrrha could absolutely have taken any member of Team RWBY in a 1v1 fight and come out on top more often than not. But by the same token, I think Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang all reliably beat out Jaune, Nora and Ren in any hypothetical 1v1.
Pyrrha might be a better fighter on her own, but Ruby, Weiss, Blake and Yang are a better Team.
So with all that in mind, it’s not so surprising that it was Pyrrha who Ozpin singled out as the most ideal Fall Maiden candidate. A singularly talented and capable fighter with a strong sense of duty and morality, who also happens to be on an otherwise middling to average team. Hardly a major loss of talent if this team were to be broken up or Pyrrha replaced.
And it’s pretty obvious that Jaune, Nora and Ren would NOT have been informed whatsoever about ANY of this. That fact that Ozpin and the rest approached Pyrrha and ONLY Pyrrha illustrates this pretty clearly.
In a hypothetical scenario where the attack on Beacon doesn’t happen and Pyrrha accepts the offer to become the new Fall Maiden at the end of the tournament, I imagine that after the transfer, Ozpin and the rest would have given her the full rundown on Salem, the Relics, and their war against her. And by ‘full rundown’ I of course mean the 15% of the full rundown that Oz has deemed to tell anyone over the millennia. And of course, they only deem to tell Pyrrha that she’s just signed up to protect this power from Actually Satan, and if she fails the entire world is probably doomed, AFTER it’s already too late for Pyrrha to back out of the deal. You know, because they needed to know if she was committed before telling her the truth. And then the Ozcrew would have most likely fed Pyrrha the standard Chosen One BS yarn that she can’t tell her teammates about ANY of this and it’s for their own good and safety that Pyrrha distances herself from them. And because Pyrrha is almost certainly an emotional wreck from this metric Aslan’s worth of hot Fantasy Hero bullshit that’s just been dropped in her lap, and because Ozpin and his friends just enabled the ABSOLUTE FUCK out of her Hero Complex, of course she’d go along with it.
Ozpin would probably give Pyrrha the rest of the semester with her team before breaking them up. Because unlike Ironwood, Ozpin does still have the capacity for real empathy. He’s just too consumed by a hundred thousand years’ worth of trauma, guilt, shame and fear to actually do anything meaningful with that empathy.
But after that, Pyrrha would start distancing herself more and more from her friends, her team and her loved ones. Slowly becoming just another sacrifice in Oz’s never-ending war against Salem.
I feel that what a lot people miss about Oz is that so much, or even most of what he’s done to protect Remnant from Salem has just been fundamentally WRONG. Choosing to make the Maidens ‘gatekeepers’ of the Relic Vaults only put a BIGGER TARGET on their backs. Choosing to fight Salem in the shadows has only made Salem’s work easier. And choosing to trust NOBODY other than himself with anything close to the whole truth has only caused Oz’s allies to loose trust in him over and over again.

Anything that surprised you in terms of character, either in the development since then or what was revealed to already be there, in regards to Winter or Penny since they came back in volume 7?
aw geez. like, all of it? but to pick one thing that is about both of them, and all of it in a way:
making Winter and Penny friends was a genius move from a writerly perspective. that was already the case in season 7, just from the standpoint of the bizarre yet heartwarming odd couple thing the two had going on: who is the machine and who is the girl, hot and cold, yin and--okay that one gets confusing so i’m just gonna skip it. the contrast--that Penny and Winter alternately bring out and justify the people they are, to each other--was the point then, and theoretically you could have told that story by letting us watch them become friends onscreen, but you can write that off as a time-saving measure, since they’re both technically just supporting cast.
but with this season we see why it was so important that Penny and Winter were already friends even before our heroes showed up in Atlas. we’ve always had a pretty good idea that Penny had an internal life on equal narrative footing with our heroes: apart from RWBY we knew about her father even before we met him, and season 7 works hard overall to reaffirm that--even though she spends most of her time hanging with them--Penny can’t really be reduced to “Ruby/RWBY’s friend” anymore. the same can’t be said for Winter, who in season 3 was introduced and only stayed long enough to be reinforced as “Weiss’ sister,” and “Ironwood’s protege”--in other words, as relational to more central characters. Winter was posed as a figure in the lives of other people; she was seen, but we did not get her perspective.
in order to get from where Winter was then to where Winter is now (one of the most powerful people on the planet, lovingly centered in shot and hating every second of it) that needed to change, but there were problems. the obvious direction to take with Winter’s 2.0 patch (now with human emotion!) is Weiss, but in-universe this was complicated by Winter’s weird pseudo-parental role in Weiss’ life meaning that Weiss would not really think of Winter as HAVING an internal life, in a similar way to how kids assume their teachers just kind of vanish into the ether when school’s out, and out-of-universe all more Weiss-Winter interactions would do is underscore Winter’s role as just “Weiss’ sister, only...i unno, she’s nicer now.” and they couldn’t just have her zip around like Penny getting to know everyone and getting known in turn, because...*gestures wearily at all of Winter.* that she’s only known relationally is not just a Doylist issue; Winter is written to have no internal life because Winter tries as hard as possible to avoid any interiority.
her personal feelings, lest we forget, don’t matter. but her relationships do, as it turns out, and what Penny specifically demonstrates with Winter that Weiss can’t is that Winter is capable of forging relationships independent of Weiss. that was less obvious when they were all playing for the same team and everybody was everybody’s friend, but throughout season 8 it’s implied that they think of each other even when apart: Winter spends three-quarters of the invasion Troubled for reasons relating to Penny, and Penny explicitly brings up Winter without anyone else being around to do it, to the point where she actually corrects Ruby and clarifies that she’s thinking about Winter (and the General. the difference is important). they are each other’s friends, and the fact that they ended up loving the same people outside of their own friendship doesn’t take away from that.
Penny is living proof that Winter can make friends without anyone needing to supervise her, and the audience is included in this. correct me if i’m wrong, but i’m actually drawing a blank on other “adult” (in scare quotes, because Winter actually isn’t of the older generation and the textual recognition of that is kind of the whole point) characters who are implied to have a private life that isn’t immediately linked to the Greater Plot Conspiracy? like, the closest i can think of is Qrow’s Sadness Errands in Mistral, where he’s implied to have old Huntsman buds who are dead now, and...Raven’s whole bandit queen schtick, which by virtue of being anti-Greater Plot Conspiracy just ends up right back to being about it. Winter and Penny’s friendship eventually had ENORMOUS plot significance, but it didn’t start out that way--it started because they just wanted to be friends, and they were allowed to just be that for quite a while, because they created this little private space right in the heart of Atlas, away from anybody’s surveillance. and they ended up saving each other (over and over again) because of it.
what Penny and Winter’s untold friendship ultimately shows, then, is what Whitley shows by calling Klein when no one expected him to, is what the Happy Huntresses show by just. existing, what the Atlas arc writ large is about: that people change and grow, even when our heroes aren’t around to see them do it. that there are a million stories our Big Players aren’t concerned with, or only come in at the tail end of, but that doesn’t make them any less vital to saving the world.

Option on RWBY ships:
Btw, I don’t usually ship characters. Romance is usually the least interesting part of the story for me so expect a lot of meh.
Arkos: obviously I love this, it’s perfect
Blacksun: ehh, it’s cute. I started out feeling kinda meh, it was sweet but not really interesting, but now it’s growing on me. Ironically the same thing is happening with Bumblebee, although I still like Blake and Yang better platonically
Bunanas: so this is a ship between Velvet and Sun, and it’s honestly really cute to imagine even if it is completely random. I like it better then Blacksun…I think?
Candy Cane: this is just weird. I can’t imagine Nora being anything but a older sister to Oscar. The age gap makes it creepy too, not the four years is much of a gap, but when your teenagers it’s a big gap.
Chocolate Arc: this is hilarious to imagine but obviously yeah, Coco isn’t going to fall for someone like Jaune
Cinnabun: I barely know anything about Yatsuhashi but he and Velvet are cute, I guess? Still like her better with Sun
ClockRose: heck no!
Coconuts: again, can’t see Sun doing anything but annoying Coco. I really don’t like the whole ‘badass jerk of a girl falls for goof ball trope.’ It always ends up feeling sexist in several ways
Combat Boots: honestly outside of an AU I can’t see Yang ever forgiving Mercury much less falling in love with him. Also Mercury just doesn’t deserve her
Combat goggles: I feel like Yang and Neptune would have fun causally dating each other and slowly realizing they actually like (Blake/Sun/Jaune/whoever) and become each other’s wingmen. That fanfic better be lying around somewhere
Crimson Lotus: okay, if I didn’t love Renora and Rosegarden so much I’d probably ship this. It’s really cute
Crimson Sun: this feels like an excuse to write lemons of the two hottest characters
Crimson wings: look I understand most of the shipping heroes with villains because they’re both hot and the villain/hero dynamic is always fun. But Cardin…he’s not even hot. He’s not even interesting. And yet people ship him with Ruby? Why?
Daddie Issues: you know I see where this is coming from but they would just end up murdering each other.
Dairy Farm: obviously this is downright creepy in cannon, but in an au where Neo isn’t evil and both are closer in age, this would be adorable. I feel like Neo’s main problem is she’s incredibly lonely—other then Roman no one bothers to understand or talk to her. If Oscar reached out to her, and she began to protect him…it would be perfect. In way even better then Rosegarden because I think Neo would still be a bit of pycho even when good, and it would be fun to see her lose it when Salem hurts him.
Ilia/Adam: I just want to say I am forever grateful the show went out of its way to avoid this obnoxious, cliche ship from being canon
Dragon slayer: I see why people ship Jaune and Yang, I really do. They’re both the team mom/dad of their team, they’ve got the whole goofball/badass thing going (which is a trope I do like when the badass isn’t a jerk), they both have a good sense of humor, etc. But I just can’t see them as romantic. It feels really weird. I can’t even explain why. I understand shipping them but I really can’t ship them myself.
Emercury: I really love this ship, but I also don’t mind at all if the show decides to make them platonic. I enjoy their relationship in general and it works either way.
Oscar/Emerald: again, feel creepy. I love the idea of a sibling relationship and can’t see them possibly being romantic even without the age gape.
Cinder/Qrow: yeah again. Both are sexy and good for angsty lemons. I’m not into that stuff so I don’t ship them
Fall Stinger: I just don’t know why anyone would ship Tyrian with anyone. Unless it was Salem and even that is super creepy
Firerobber: I like villain relationships but Roman already has Neo and Cinder is a hot mess. Literally
Firewall: I don’t know why anyone would ship Watts with anyone. He’s even worst less ship-able then Tyrian
Footloose: I don’t actually ship it but just imagine Mercury and Melanie bonding over weaponized feet.
Freckles: Yeah this is just painful. The two most adorable characters (Penny and Oscar), who go through the worst things imaginable. It’s endless fluff, angst, and whump, and I love cute romance and tragic romances, so this is definitely something I ship.
Frostbite: seriously, this is so weird and toxic. Having Adam fall for Weiss or vice versa. Maybe it would work in an AU or something but it’s just too creepy
Funky Beats: it’s cute, I ship it.
Gelato: yeah I love healthy villainous relationships! Neo and Roman are freaking adorable, and I’m sad that we didn’t see more of them together.
Grandmasters: I obviously don’t ship Salem and Ozpin because that’s just creepy, but I do like their romance. I like tragic romances, and this probably the most tragic one in existence
Greek Lotus: I don’t see the chemistry and crashes two of my favorite ships so…
Green Knight: well, she kinda helped kill his last girlfriend so…unless it’s AU this isn’t going to work. Even if it is an AU. This feels like another ship made solely for lemons
Velvet/Cardin: yeah, a bigot changing his mind when he falls in love with a minority isn’t cute. Isn’t sweet. It isn’t romantic. I don’t even excuse lemons that use this trope. Even porn ought to be above that
Weiss/Cardin: WOULD EVERYONE STOP SHIPPING CARDIN WITH PEOPLE
Hummingbird: it’s hard to ship something when you only know one character, but I was interested in the theory that Qrow was actually Ruby’s father. But then in season 7 Qrow’s description of Summer made me rethink it, and it didn’t sound anything like how you’d describe a romantic relationship. So I don’t really like that theory anymore
Iceberg: this is just cliche and boring. I get them dating but it wouldn’t last that long
Flynt/Weiss: I really love this one, it’s my favorite ship with Weiss. I don’t want it to actually happened in cannon because that would be random, but I feel like it would be fun for both their characters. And they both share an interest in music. I’m imagining an AU where he gets her into jazz and she starts singing it at all her concerts to the horror of Jaques.
Iron Maiden: honestly what. Why. Gross
Iron witch: well I definitely see why people like it. I actually wouldn’t mind it being cannon, It’d be a good combination of funny/tragic and I’d like to see Glynda mentoring Winter
Jailbirds: this just feels forced and also Qrow is probably too old for her. I like their relationship and don’t want it to be romantic
Knight fall: lemon ship. Moving on
Knight Life: I feel like Jaune just gets shipped with everyone but this is cute I guess
Lancaster: it’s cute, but I can’t ship it because it feels cliche. I was worried that Jaune was going to be her love interest when they first met and was relieved to see him with Pyrrha instead. It just feels forced and boring to have him end up with Ruby
Pyrrha/Mercury: this really popular for some unfathomable reason. I like Mercury but Pyrrha deserves better
Marrowgold (May/Marrow): I just don’t see it
Nikong: Pyrrha and Sun would be cute together, but I don’t really love this ship. It’s kinda meh.
Nora’s Arc: no. Just no. It technically would work but their platonic relationship is way too good to lose
Old Silver: this is Maria/Pietro, and I think it’s adorable. They both strike me as really flirty for their ages and both are very good mentors. They can be the crazy grandparents of the team
Ozglyn: just don’t see it
Phoenix: yeah Raven was a horrible girlfriend/wife. I don’t ship her Taiyang
QuickSilver: Ruby deserves better than Mercury.
Rehab (Qrow/Glynda): the fact that this is called rehab explains why I don’t ship it
ReNora: yeah, this is probably my favorite ship. I don’t think I have to explain why.
Robotic Knight: I briefly shipped this but now disagree
Rosegarden: I really love Rosegarden, they’re just too adorable together, though the whole Ozpin does make it a little awkward
Rosewick: I can’t see this happening, even in an AU
Coco/Fox: I don’t know enough about Fox to really ship them, but the fact that Coco canonically slaps his butt during battle definitely makes me want to
Mercury/Neo: I could see this working. It would be pretty cute
Silent Knight: again, it would have to be an AU and even then I don’t see it working
Snowbird: so at first I really liked the idea of Qrow and Winter being ex’s, but now that I think about it he has to be at least twenty years older then her. Also, I have to say that while they have chemistry I think they would just end up killing each other
Speakeasy (Flynt/Coco): I got to say I like this ship and could see them having a lot of chemistry together
Strawbanna: I just can’t see Ruby and Sun together. It feels weird
Sunflakes: Can’t see it working
Sunflowyr (Ren/Yang): don’t see any chemistry. Again this just seems random
Tauradonna: this is obviously as toxic as you get.
The Hunt (Cardin/Blake): stop shipping Cardin with anyone!
Mercury/Cinder: Mercury is way too young, and even if he wasn’t this would be really weird. Also Cinder makes him look like a stable, peaceful person, so also no.
Toxic Petals: I swear I’m done with this. No more Cardin, Tyrian, or Watts ships. They too gross
Velveteen Knight: Aw, they’d be cute together
White Knight: I really hate this ship. It’s so obnoxious and boring, and nearly falls into the jerky badass/goofball trope I hate
Winter Soldier: ew, no, Ironwood is like her dad
Wise Dragon: anyone care to explain why this is so popular? Sage barely has any character to him, I can’t ship him with anyone
Yellow rose: Yeah, I kinda ship this, but again, it’s difficult when you barely know one character
IronQrow: I understand why you would ship this but I just don’t see it. Guys can hug without being gay you know
Martial arts: why?
Noah’s Arc: why?
Sea Monkeys: again I understand why you could ship it but I don’t. They’re obviously just friends to me
Shovel Knight: like most Oscar ships it feels weird. Jaune is obviously a big brother to him
TaiQrow: As funny as it is for Tai to sleep with every member of his team, I don’t ship it.
Fair game: I really can’t stand Clover so again, don’t ship it
Achilles heel: Cinder literally kills Pyrrha, why would you ship them?
Baked Alaska: lemon ship
Black glass: annnd, another lemon ship.
Blood Mint: yeah I don’t see Emerald and Ruby ever being a couple
Catmelon: I found Ilia’s crush on Blake kinda cringy and I can’t see them being a couple
ColdMurder (Weiss/Cinder): even in an au I don’t see it working
Cold Steel (Penny/Winter) eeewww, they’re practically sisters
Cream Machine (Neo/Penny): I mean…if she wasn’t evil…and wasn’t so much older…it might work? Maybe?
Crosshares: cute but I feel like Velvet is too much of a doormat for Coco
Digital Clock: Ciel obviously didn’t care much for Penny, and she was barely a character at all. I don’t see it
Pyrrha/Nora: don’t see it, and also can’t stand the idea of breaking up the two best ships
Falling Petals: I get that Cinder is hot, but can we stop shipping her with the kids she’s trying to murder? Because I can see several things wrong with that
Freezerburn: again, for no reason that I can think of this ship just doesn’t work for me. Much like Dragonslayer it just feels weird
Gingersnaps (Penny/Nora): that would be chaotic. I can’t really see them romantically though like most Penny ships it would be cute
Guilty Conscience (Bree/Winter): oh please no. They really don’t have any reason to be together
Ladybug: I just can’t see Blake with Ruby at all. Blake feels way to old even though she’s only older by two years.
Milk and Cereal (Ruby and Pyrrha): I guess it would work but I just don’t any chemistry
Mint chocolate (Emerald/Coco): if Coco managed to forgive her for everything that happened at Beacon I could maybe see this happening. There is some chemistry
Mommy issues: Nah, can’t see this working out.
Monochrome: Blake and Weiss have never had any romance chemistry despite plenty of opportunity to have it, so again, I see them as strictly platonic and shipping them feels almost like incest. I know that doesn’t make sense
Nordic Winter: I can’t see Weiss handling Penny, but again, any Penny ship is pretty cute
Nuts and Dolts: I would ship, but I like them together platonically too well. Definitely understand the ship, though I find it funny that Ruby, who insist she likes weapons better then people, would fall in love with a personified weapon. I know that’s probably racist against robots
Overheating (Penny/Cinder): I take back what I said about every Penny ship being cute
PennyWeiss: but this one is pretty cute
Pink Lemonade: can you imagine the chaos of Yang and Nora dating each other? They both need someone with a cooler head to keep them in check
Scheenoks: with Weiss’s fangirling I can definitely see were this is coming from, but Weiss is too mean for Pyrrha
Steadfast: I really don’t ship any of the ace-ops with anyone. I found them all boring and annoying except for Marrow
Strawberry Shortcake (Neo/Ruby): not seeing it
Sugar Rush (Ruby/Nora): Again, too much chaos. They both need chill partners. And I love Rosegarden and ReNora too much
Thunder cat (Blake/Nora): don’t see any chemistry between them
WhiteRose: I can see why this is shipped and I don’t dislike WhiteRose shippers. I just prefer Rosegarden, and find Weiss and Ruby working better together romantically
Bumblebee: again, I see this working better platonically, not romantically. It kind of annoyed me at first, but it is growing on me, much like Blacksun. I still like Blacksun better though
Enabler: No.
