I- the gnome is Neon I take no criticism. They are often good-natured souls with a more mischievous side, and if that doesn’t describe Neon I’m not sure what does. Playful, funny, good intentions, that my good Bean is our lovable cat personified. Okay Parhelion dnd au with gnome Neon please /j.

I- oh no,, time to fail the exam I guess (turns all your head canons upside down)

Okay they do sleep yes they do. Actually that’s a lie only Ciel sleeps, the other two are insomniacs. Ciel has all of her day to day life planned out to the minute, so she heads to bed at a certain time and wakes up at a certain time, the other two are more of a “we’ll sleep when we’re tired” kinda duo. Unfortunately due to Ilia’s night terrors and Neon’s ADHD they almost never rest. No they do not sleep in a SANE bed, ha why would they have a bed? They sleep in a hammock all tangled up with each other. It’s hard to tell what order they sleep in when they kinda curl into each other. They do not use a duvet, why have a duvet when Neon is a space heater? There are no pillows on the hammock X). OKAY THEIR ROOM, THIS I GOT, it’s a funky mess that is somehow organized thanks to Ciel. Ilia doesn’t own a lot in general but it was her life’s dream to paint her bedroom rainbow so guess what they have now. The other two are too soft and they supported her efforts and they love her despite her poor design sense XD.

I- why closet ASDFG I mean— No they do not share a closet they all have completely different fashion sense and if that was all in one place people would be genuinely terrified. But since they’re broke they had to make do with one walk in closet that they partitioned off into sections. YES THEY DO HAVE MATCHING OUTFITS THEY ARE SO CUTE LIKE THAT. They tend to be like those cute couple outfits with a few variations to match their own personal style. But their favorite matching outfit are these duck hoodies they own courtesy of once again Ilia living out her childhood dreams. No they don’t own many outfits because like I mentioned earlier they are broke x). Hmm thinking about each other’s styles… Ilia think both of her girlfriends have great taste, she loves the well, neon of Neon, and the prim and properness of Ciel. Neon just doesn’t care XD. And Ciel is just, she’s just standing there wishing she could help their fashion sense, but she holds back because “It does suit them in an odd way.” Ciel gets the most compliments on her style hands down, she looks organized and you can bet she saves money to buy outfits that actually accentuate her cuteness. They don’t wear makeup no time for that (in which you learn Z has little to no knowledge in how to apply makeup and doesn’t know how to answer that question)

OH OKAY I LOVE VIDDY GAMES. Ciel likes real-time strategy games because she’s insane and that’s literally all she knows in life thanks to being raised in an upper class family in Atlas. Neon likes open world games, something something she likes the chance for adventure and determining one’s fate for themself. Ilia has never once played a video game until after she defected from the White Fang but I can see her playing something light like Stardew Valley, low stakes kinda games. Hmm, they might play Animal Crossing together? Since it has aspects they all enjoy. They each have an individual switch (Ilia has a coral switch lite) and one shared PC. Okay game with most hours, maybe Minecraft? They still haven’t beat the enderdragon because Neon keeps getting distracted XD. Neon is the bomb at party games though, you can bet she has a perfect score on all the songs in Just Dance. Ciel is a sharpshooter, god knows who taught her how to shoot like that. The biggest splatoon fan is unfortunately not Neon it is Ilia, she loves all the colors in the game ^^. But she and Neon have wracked up quite a few hours in co-op.

Uhhh books!! Ilia likes fanfics :) it’s unfortunately one of the only ways for her to see positive representation of herself. Neon for some reason reads Epics?? Like her favorite is the Epic of Gilgamesh what is up with that?? Ciel reads webtoons :), she reads enough serious stuff for school work and such, she likes to just kick back and relax after all that. Yes they have schedules reading time courtesy of Ciel :). Uhh, they relax by baking together. None of them had many chances to indulge in sweets while growing up so they make full use of their time now. ?? SPOON?? Cuddle hours happen on a whim, the one thing that Ciel can never schedule because she never knows when it’ll occur. They relax the most in the kitchen x) because that’s where they bake, it’s not unusual to find Neon asleep on the counter while she waits for their sweets to rise. They read in the light, Neon is afraid that by reading in the dark that they’ll all ruin their eyesight. Ciel likes the sunrise because she’s up the earliest and is the only one to see it, the other two prefer sunset because that’s usually when their day is about to begin XD.

Favorite spot for dates! The park ^^, they like to go on picnic dates with all their baked goods. There is no plan, usually one of them will randomly pull the other two out of the house because they haven’t touched grass in a while XD. There are no ideas, they share one braincell and they spend too much time doting on each other to use it. Uhm favorite movie genre,,, they like comedy movies :). Their favorite place to eat is this tiny store on the corner of their street that makes mean gyros, they heccin’ love them. Coping with horror, Ilia is desensitized to horror because of the things she’s seen in life, Neon treats it like a game because she knows it’s not real, Ciel, is okay with it, but she gets shook more easily than the other two and they often have to reassure her. No they do not like theme parks, there are too many people around for Ilia and Ciel and Neon respects their boundaries so they tend to go to more quiet places. Uhm heights, Ciel is used to heights because she’s friends with Penny and woah can that girl toss her in the air like she’s a couple of grapes. Ilia doesn’t mind heights but she would prefer to have her feet on the ground. Neon loves the ground so damn much if it leaves her she will cry because man she can’t roller-skate in the air can she, what will she do if the ground is suddenly gone? They like evening dates because it’s normally the only time all three of them are awake enough for it XD. They end a night by sleeping I am not quite sure if there are other ways to end it lmao. They absolutely despise Neon’s roller skating dates but they love how excited she gets about them so they end up becoming as good as professional roller skaters because the smile on Neon’s face when they join her is dazzling.

I am slowly going insane. Yes each girl has a hobby I sure hope they do. Ilia knits, Ciel paints, and Neon writes. I would like to imagine that Ciel would try to schedule time for their hobbies she ends up giving up because all their sleep schedules are wack. Designated chef is Neon (probably made food for FNKI back in atlas), designated driver is Ilia (I mean I like to imagine she stole cars and stuff in the White Fang XD), designated decorator for stuff is normally Ciel though Neon does try to hijack a few of her plans occasionally, designated shopper is Ciel because the other two have no concept of Saving money, and they all work together to clean :). They don’t work together, they believe in keeping their work life and home life separate to prevent their feelings from getting in the way. They do not have pets, none of them have the energy or responsibility to do that, but Ilia did once bring a moose home one day for some reason.

I am nomming on your arm sir. Ilia and Neon get along with Penny surprisingly well, though I do think Ilia would get along with Weiss better? Ruby and Weiss look at Ciel and see a beacon arc Weiss and more or less adopt her despite Ciel being older than the two of them. They might like.. play board games together? Like some of those more team based board games I can’t think of anything off the top of my head, may the best polycule win. I cannot see them in a cuddle puddle to be honest ajcnjsanjs I am so sorry— hmm Ruby and Neon do not know the meaning of formal, as far as they are concerned these are their girlfriend’s friends and that means that by extension these are their friends. Weiss would like nothing to do with Neon after Neon insults Yang during the Vytal festival but she begrudgingly goes on outings with her and hey, now they’re make up buddies for some reason. The parhelion gals take the fs gals to the gyro place they like :). Parhelion gang Is a lot more vocal on their dates because their love language happens to be words of affirmation while the fs gang’s happen to be physical touch. Both polycules are very very affectionate though I will die on this hill.

(Parhelion angst! How do Neon and Ciel react to the news about the dust mine? How do they find out about Ilia getting expelled? Do they find out about the white fang? Is there any faunus stigma afterwards? How does Ciel react to people bullying her Faunus GFS? Does Neon talk to Ciel much after? Do they ever reunite? Does Neon attempt to help Ciel while she grieves Penny? Where the fuck is Ciel now? Is Neon still alive? Does Ilia ever think about them? Does Blake know about them from Ilia?)

BUDDY I CAME TO THE LAST ASK AND NOW ONLY DID I REALIZE YOU MEANT PARHELION BACK WHEN THEY WHERE IN BEACON THIS WHOLE TIME I’M CRYING. (This ask is answered under the assumption that they are already dating back in Atlas Academy) Ciel is fiercely protective of her girlfriends, though people only know that Neon is a Faunus because Ilia masks her traits during her time at the academy. Neon and Ciel are horrified about the news about the dust mines. They know that Ilia is a Faunus and that her parents were working there so they rush to see her as soon as possible. But they’re too late,,, Ilia’s already been expelled for attacking her fellow students. They don’t hear from Ilia for a few years after that and the two slowly drift apart, each blaming the other for not getting to Ilia soon enough. They don’t find out about the White Fang until they reunite with Ilia unfortunately, but they feel sad that Ilia had felt that they only way for her to get revenge for her parents was by joining a militant group (I’m working under the assumption that Sienna only took control of the White Fang shortly before Ilia joined). When Neon learns that Penny didn’t make it after the Fall of Beacon she hesitantly reaches out to Ciel for the first time in a year, and she does try to help. But for Ciel it’s blow after heccin’ blow and she pushes Neon away in a rage. Ciel leaves the Academy after that and goes rogue, working as a huntsman without a license for the poorer parts of remnant. Ilia is unaware of all this drama during the Beacon arc. The next time she hears of any news is during the Fall of Atlas, and she’s scared, scared because she’s still recovering and she just heard Ruby announce to the world that Remnant is under attack, and oh my gosh her ex girlfriends live in Atlas. Neon makes it out alive, though not entirely in one piece, she now has a prosthetic leg. Ilia is the first person to see her, it’s a tearful reunion and they haven’t fully made up yet, but hey it’s a work in progress, now they just have to find out where Ciel is, but when they do they’ll BOTH be there to greet her. Blake has no idea who the fuck Ciel and Neon are lmao, Ilia never told her anything about her past romances when she was in the White Fang.

Spoilers below the cut.

The start of this episode was very expected. I realized that it would have to pick up right where it left off from E13.

I can’t be the only one who expected Cinder betraying Neo and her lying to Salem, right? Because I already knew that this was going to happen the moment Neo decided to trust her. It’ll be interesting to see what happens to RWBY + Jaune and Neo in the next season.

Also can someone please explain where NORA is? Because the only thing we can assume is that she went through the portal to Vacuo, but I didn’t see her there with Ren, Oscar, and Emerald. Maybe she did and is just somewhere else? idfk I just hope she’s okay.

EDIT: Because I’m stupid... I just re-watched it with my roommates and saw Nora banging on the portal. So she’s good, but definitely might think that Jaune and the others are dead because they didn’t make it through.

BUT ON THE NOTE OF BEING OKAY...

I am horribly wounded at what happened with Penny. I had the feeling she would die because of the death flags that were placed upon her (after her getting her real body and shit like that).

But having Jaune help her most definitely did not help Jaune. Gods I can only imagine what it’ll be like to tell Ruby that Penny is gone.... I will cry even more. I did actually cry during this episode... something that happens a lot with RWBY so it seems.

Also speaking of deaths, my gods... Vine sacrificing himself tore me apart... and seeing how it tore Harriet apart made it worse. I’m happy that Marrow, Harriet, and Elm survived. But, Vine deserved to live just as much as everyone else... poor man. His sacrifice will not be forgotten.

Also can we assume that Watts is dead too? Based on what happened at the end with him being trapped and not being able to break the glass, he’ll eventually burn to death or suffocate. And even if he is able to find a way out, there’s no telling how long he’d last since Atlas fell. With that being said, can we also assume Ironwood is dead? We didn’t see him escape the falling city and, with the water flooding in, I doubt he had time to get out. He’d likely drown trying.

CRWBY literally was like “you want trauma, we’ll give you trauma” and decided to kill like... 5 characters (Hazel, Penny, Watts, Vine, and Ironwood... am I missing an--- WAIT I forgot Jacques.... oh that’s right nobody cares and everyone is happy he died, right? lolololol)

That sudden realization that we have no clue what happened to Pietro and Maria. Granted, I think most of us assumed the worst and assumed they both perished when Amity fell. But, who knows...? They could have both survived. At least that’s the hope.

Also, Cinder said something along the lines of “And that’s... checkmate” before she left with Salem. Very much a reference to the opening sequence with Ironwood being on a chess board.

Speaking of the opening, I was wrong in my predictions that the order for the fall would match. It was only slightly off (with Ruby falling before Weiss). But, the post-credits scene with Crescent Rose stuck in the sand(?) is very much a mirror of what we saw in the opening with it stuck in the ground. I wonder what that place is btw. It looks interesting and kinda funky.... I like it but I’m also concerned about it.

Alright.... now that we’ve got my episode thoughts and raging out of the way, lemme get to the shit that made me fucking cry:

- Penny’s death... Obviously I have an attachment to our sweet angel and seeing her suffer like she did this episode made me want to scream. I had my hands over my mouth the entire time because I was so worried and I didn’t want to scream. When she interacted with Winter to give the Maiden powers to her, I burst into tears. Especially with the line that Penny stated: “I’ll be part of you”. That’s a direct reference to what Winter told Penny when she received the powers initially from Fria (if not being a direct re-quote... I can’t remember if it is or isn’t right now).

- Jaune’s reaction to what happened with Penny... Obviously our boy Jaune has been through a shit ton of trauma in the past five volumes. He loved Pyrrha dearly and lost her to Cinder. Now he had to help someone die.... and he saw Penny as a very close friend. Obviously the trauma from having no other choice but to “kill” her is going to weigh heavy on his mind. In fact, he might be the one who has to tell Ruby and that’s going to be even more heartbreaking. Jaune has had some serious character development and I cannot wait to see what is in store for him in V9.

- Winter’s reaction to Weiss falling + how she reacted around her family... Winter has really been a stoic character since we first met her. I was happy to see her finally gain a more “human” side (citing that she said she was the machine/robot this episode) and let her emotions out. Seeing her break after her sister fell caused me to break as well. She and Blake both turned that sadness into rage and determination, but Winter had a better handle on it because she realized what she had to do was important. She probably also thinks that Weiss is dead (since she has no idea what exists down there or if anything at all does exist down there). Adding on to that, when she saw her family (Willow and Whitley + Klein) was heartbreaking. She will have to tell them eventually and when she does, I’m sure Willow will be broken even more.

- Qrow’s reaction... You couldn’t hear what he was saying when he heard something in his earpiece, but you could tell what he was told by his reaction. And just by reading his lips, you could tell he was calling out for Ruby and possibly Yang (it was hard to tell, but I would assume he was saying Yang’s name as the second thing he said). He’s already distraught by Clover’s death last volume. Now he’s saddened by Vine’s sacrifice. And now he’s thinking that both of his nieces have died. The poor man has suffered enough. Please just let him heal, CRWBY. We need him to be happy. :(

Edit because I forgot this part for a second. Fuck my mind lmao:

- Harriet’s agony and Elm’s pleading when Vine made up his mind.... between Harriet’s agonized screaming and Elm’s basically begging her friend not to sacrifice his life, I had so many emotions. I wanted to cry and I did. I felt so bad for those two. They had to deal with the loss of Clover and now they’ve got to deal with the loss of Vine. It’s heartbreaking.

Welp... hiatus time and then onward to V9. Any predictions y’all? I know it’s early, but I feel like now’s a great time to start theorizing and formulating what could possibly be thrown our way... But, as we learned with this volume, CRWBY is willing to throw anything at us... and I mean anything.

The scarlatinas are a big family with aunts and cousins visiting a lot right? Have you got an idea of how their house looks? (also could you release the Scarlatina family descriptions you gave me to the public?)

well, really the scarlatina family isn’t big in the, uh, family tree sense; it’s not like Velvet has 100+ cousins and that sort of stuff, but they’re big in the sense that they all live together, hjdshkjfsd. so it’s a big household! sixteen people! it’s nothing to sniff at! so the aunts and cousins dont visit, really, because they literally live next door, lmao.

the scarlatina homestead is split into two houses that keep getting added to every once in a while. the bigger one (aka the first) has georgette, rajah, taffeta, ash, chiffon, velvet, satin and hickory live there, whilst the second (rapidly growing) house has cotton, tenné, hawthorn (+ hawthorn’s wife, saffron, and their kid, fir), ramie (+ her wife, auburn) and birch. that said, the houses pretty much act as one, and people tend to drift in and out of either of em at will.

the houses are similar in terms of their footprint, since they sorta both evolved abt the same time for the same needs (oh shit a kid oh shit a marriage oh shit ANOTHER kid), and save for two smaller second storeys for storage/spare room needs, almost the entire thing is on the ground floor (heat rises, baby). they share a big old shed/workshop which ash lingers in CONSTANTLY, as well as two little gardens where they grow their own produce. they also have some solar panels and a huge windmill out front, both of which usually power their houses since they don’t typically draw a TON of energy, though they do have a generator that runs on fuel as a backup.

okay if we’re describing the whole family im gonna shunt this under a cut this goes on for a while dsfjhgjhskfgd

GEORGETTE SCARLATINA: the matriarch of the family! well, sorta; she’s let her own daughters sort of have run of the place in her stead, because she’s “retired” now and that means she mostly sits back and enjoys not Working all the time. back in her heyday the woman was an absolutely powerhouse, 24/7 on the grind, but even now she’s very… well, she’s still a force to be reckoned with, really, and whilst she isn’t uuuuuuuh Strict, per se, she’s very disciplined, and no matter what her kids and grandkids choose to do, she expects them to really throw themselves into it. weiss is both terrified of her and desperately wants her approval, which isn’t hard to get, but weiss is, how they say, dumbass. georgette is also the reason why taffeta and cotton are… Like That. like what? stubborn loud fuzzy taking zero shit, etc,

RAJAH SCARLATINA: scarlatina women seem to always land themselves timid men and nobody is sure how, or why, but georgette wasnt the first to start this trend and shes def not the one to end it. rajah is pretty mild-mannered, but like georgette, never rested when people needed help. he and ash (and tenné) get on real well because they’re happy enough to mind their own Fuckin Business whilst their wives barrel around with all the grace of rampaging bulls. still, rajah’s also very much a product of his time as an early settler to menagerie; he’s never really… happy with everything, because they lost so much leaving for this shithole, so he’s always kinda… mildly sad about stuff, but the same can be said of any faunus his age tbh.

COTTON SCARLATINA: the older of the two Scarlatina Daughters, cotton is… manic. full of energy, always looking to burn it off. she’s an optimist at heart since she and taffeta came to menagerie when they were ten and therefore are more accustomed to the island, and her primary objective is making a good home and a good start for the family. she’s not too interested in politics or revolution, mainly because she’s the type of woman who plans by meals and mouths to feed, if u get me. she’s also pretty smug because her side of the family are rly growing up (TWO wives. a GRANDKID. its ALL COMING UP COTTON) and it means she gets to spend more time doing stuff she’s passionate abt!!!!!!! nice!!!!!!!!

TENNÉ SCARLATINA: i put an accent on his name and i regret it every day of my life. anyway. tenné isn’t entirely sure how he ended up with just The Most scarlatina, but he did and, well, there’s no backing out now. tenné‘s a deer faunus and was around cotton’s age when he and his family moved with the scarlatinas to menagerie, so he and cotton have always been close. he’s very patient and doesn’t always have a lot to say, but he and cotton are a great team when it comes to managing the entire homestead together. again, he’s not a political type, and just wants to keep his corner of things safe in uncertain times. he always pretty rarely leaves the homestead for anything, so he’s also kinda reclusive, but so is cotton! it all works out!

HAWTHORN SCARLATINA: i won’t go into the partners lest i Die but hawthorne is the eldest child of cotton and tenné. got antlers like his da, and he’s a pretty big fellow by scarlatina standards (that is to say, not thin enough to fly away in a stiff breeze). hawthorn is… well, long and short, he’s a himbo, but he’s also a pretty devoted homesteader (this is a trend! watch this space). his wife, saffron, was from desert sands and they’d been dating for a While before they got married, and they’re the first to have kids of all the first-gen* scarlatinas. he’s got cotton’s love of the family and tenné’s sort of quiet offset nature, though he was pretty rowdy as a kid (he grew out of that once velvet broke his nose tho).

RAMIE AND BIRCH SCARLATINA: twins! twins! oh my god! twins!!! fraternal twins!!!

ramie is the older of the two (my friends who were w/ me when we played the RWBY ttrpg will Remember Her) and she’s. well she’s surprisingly enough like taffeta that cotton jokes that clearly she’s gone and had the wrong kid. she’s very Firm abt things and has a way of naturally corralling people to follow after her, if only because this bitch has enough common sense for herself and, like, five people. she was also voted Best Lesbian Cousin five years in a row, and she and auburn get on like a house on fire. they’re also very into PDA, don’t mind them.

birch is the younger of the two and ramie always calls them the emo one. they’re not really so much into people as they are into their crafts and their plants (their bedroom looks like a greenhouse dont mind them) and they have tenné’s nature and georgette’s focus on working all the goddamn time. they’re good company is you strike up convo in the areas they have interest in, but sometimes it’s like talking to a brick wall. ramie is very fluent in their noncommittal grunts of disinterest, though.

FIR SCARLATINA: he’s one year old. he’s a baby. idk shit.

TAFFETA SCARLATINA: here’s the bitch we’ve all been waiting for

taffeta is like georgette if georgette was somehow more like herself. whereas the other half of the family are more core to the values of the clan, taffeta’s a tribe woman, and when she wakes up in the morning her focus is always on the wider community. taffeta’s very much just a machine of intent; she farms, she builds, she repairs, she trades, she gives, she travels, she does SO much and she’s very much the face of the family at present (which is why ppl hear the name ‘scarlatina and go ‘oh god’ w/o realising the other half wont bother u even slightly djsfggjsdfh). she’s STURDY she’s FLUFFY and she has zero qualms abt putting u in a headlock if u deserve one. dont test her. that said, taffeta’s a very reasonable woman; i’ll eventually go more into that at some nebulous point in the future hdjsgfjghksfd

ASH SCARLATINA: it’s everyone’s favourite da! i’ll TRY and keep this short. ash (MUCH LIKE THE MEN SO FAR) is just. so chilled out. can everyone PLEASE be quiet. well, he didn’t used to be – ash lived in kuo kuana before meeting taffeta and had such severe anxiety abt crowds that the boy could barely put a sentence together, let alone much else, not in the scarlatina household, he’s very calm and hard to ruffle. ash really just likes to do his thing, which is everything taffeta doesn’t do; he cooks, he watches the kids, he fixes stuff in the workshop, and he’s big into photography of the family, which is where velvet gets it from! ash is basically taffeta’s counterbalance, but being with her means he’s also become pretty well known about the town (if not for. entirely the reasons you think,)

CHIFFON SCARLATINA: the eldest of ash and taffeta’s kids! chiffon is a weird one; she takes a lot after ash in that she’s pretty reserved and doesn’t let a lot bother her, and when stuff does bother her, she expresses it pretty quietly. also, unlike her cousins who are all homebodies, chiffon was the first kid to actually leave the homestead for kuo kuana to work on the docks during a biiiig overhaul and extension of the boardwalk. she wanted to get out and see the world, but human tourists really out her off the idea, so after about a year and a bit she ended up returning home where she’s stayed ever since. after taffeta retires, she’ll probably be the next face people know and relate to the name scarlatina, tbh.

VELVET SCARLATINA: do i. do i have to say anything about her. you KNOW this bitch. anyway. velvet’s got taffeta’s stubborn sense and ash’s compassion, wants to travel like chiffon, has enough determination to just keep going when it gets her down. extremely stupid. herbo energy. trans jock. has fists will punch. fluffy. fuzzy. hot. dumbass. seriously, do i have to say anything else?

SATIN SCARLATINA: it’s a baby! just kidding, she’s 11. satin is pretty young but she’s at that age where she’s tryna figure out the world for herself. she’s already shaping up to be a lot like taffeta – bold and brash and determined – and much like her older siblings, politics is already playing into her interests. satin really wants to see vale and her tribelands, but after what happened to velvet at uni, taffeta’s trying to… well, not talk her out of it, but encourage her, gently, to reconsider. it’s not working. she and chiffon get on spectacularly well, and she and velvet get on ever better.

HICKORY SCARLATINA: okay, NOW baby. well………. okay, yeah, he’s 7. hickory is a little dreamer, never really in the present. he’s super into making stuff and helping out the adults around the homestead, and he’s not really noticed enough to be infuriated like satin, so he’s got that youthful, uh, innocence, let’s say, that means right now? life is GREAT! eventually he’ll find out that no, it’s not all that great, tbh, but right now he’s a champ at feeding the rabbits, pulling up veggies, and finishing his plate. good job hickory!

*so i looked up the whole ‘generations’ thing to check if i was right and it turns out both first-gen and second-gen have incompatible definitions (thanks america) but for the sake of not going nuts, all of cotton’s and taffeta’s kids r first gen and fir is second-gen. u could also argue cotton and taff are first-gen on account of being pretty young when they came to menag but honestly it’s too complicated. lets just leave it at that sdfjhgksdf

That episode literally blasted the last of my serotonin into smithereens but TBH??? WHO AM I MAD AT I should have seen this coming this whole volume has been such a headache. I cant be bothered to type up a coherent rwde essay on everything that bothered me this episode so im just gonna copy and paste my earlier yelling here instead ;A;

Team Rwby was god awful in episodes 11-12. They’re so self-righteous, entitled, hypocritical and cocky as a team and it doesnt help that they all suck as individual characters nowadays (except for weiss but even she lost best-girl points this episode also lmao blake and yang aren’t even INDIVIDUALS anymore they’re just bumbleby). It was annoying at first but now its just infuriating how rwby thinks theyre always right with their uwu energy and think they can do whatever tf they want with ZERO CONSEQUENCES.

Basically any time there is a problem in this show they have Ruby uwu at it and its solved lol.

They kept giving ironwood shit for taking on this incredible burden SO THAT NOBODY ELSE WOULD HAVE TO and rather than offer any real solution they just kept going “but mantle” like okay?? But remnant??? Like obvi letting mantle rot is bad but HE WAS OPEN TO ANY HELPFUL SUGGESTIONS CUZ HES OBVI AT HIS WITTS END AND DOESNT LIKE THE IDEA EITHER but yeah they just proceed to be the fattest hypocrites by hiding secrets of their own after being all “no more secrets uwu” and WHEN THEY GOT EXPOSED THEY JUST WENT “>:[“ (yangs self-righteous little glare here pissed me off so much oof) especially when ironwood was laying everything out in the open to them from the start. AND ESPECIALLY WHEN THE SECRET WAS FKIN “OH YEAH SALEM CANT DIE LOL” They watched ironwood make every decision he did in hopes of beating Salem while KNOWING she couldnt die??? So literallY WHERE do they get off on screeching at him with their yOu doNt hAvE to Suffer In ManTle YOu doNt kNow whAt iTs liKe bs. Wtf made ruby distrust iw at the start anyway? Because he had a bunch of ships out? They kept this CRUCIAL piece of information from him because he seemed stressed out?? Like what made ruby keep the secret from him. Someone tell me.

And the fact that rwby beat the ace-ops makes no goddamned sense. The power-scaling in this show is non-existant. We finally got to meet some pro huntsmen in this universe who aren’t teachers but are actually on the job, but because we gotta move out of the way for that 👌🏽✨ Power Of Friendship✨ and ✨rwby is always right✨ they somehow managed to beat experienced huntsmen with YEARS in the field who’ve actually graduated school??? FARM BOI OSCAR WHOS *JUST* LEARNING HOW TO FIGHT MANAGED TO LAND A PUNCH ON NEO FKIN POLITAN??? Didnt neo dance circles around yang??? Yang, who punches for a living and also beat mercury and adam??? I cant yall (and the fact that he didnt even bother to sneak up on her this boi literally screamed “no!!” as he ran down a hallway and neo didnt even have time to blink??? Pls)

Ruby’s “you were the best, until you trained us :3” -for maybe 2 days before my team went dancing ruby sis shut right tf up pls my god is this line just so. UNEARNED. Training in a room for a short while does not simply grant you the years of field experience the ace ops have and whAT IS UP WITH HER TRYING TO REASON WITH HARIETT AFTER SAYING THAT COCKY LINE AND FIGHTING HER??? WHAT and also like. The entire idea of “the ops lost cuz they weren’t good friends and were bad at teamwork uwu” is just so dumb. Ur telling me this group of high ranking hunstmen who’ve most likely been working together for at least a few years didnt have teamwork down??? Learning to work together is the most BASIC concept for a team to learn!! Its like the first thing a team has to perfect!! If the ace ops are supposed to be the best of atlas you dont think the ops would have gotten something as fundemental as teamwork down?? I dont buy it. And who gives a shit if they dont hang out after work or take selfies with eachother. Being friends doesnt necessarily mean theyre great at working together. If they succeed at relying on eachother to watch their backs, to keep each other alive (in the words of hariett herself) then Id think theyd know how to protect eachother i.e WORK TOGETHER.

And for all the ✨friendship✨ and ✨going through so much with someone✨ talk rwby like to do, the show barely displays these people acting like friends. We’re constantly TOLD how great of friends this group is, but the actual CONTENT we are shown leaves a lot to be desired. Tell me the last time ruby and blake teamed up in a fight. Or weiss and blake. Or yang and weiss. What teamwork?? Yang only interacts with blake now and weiss is only ever allowed to interact with ruby. Has blake ever said nora or ren’s name out loud? Have jaune and yang ever held a conversation between just them? Team rwby just spent a GOOD DEAL of time seperated from eachother, but when they reunite their teamwork is still somehow better than the ace ops?? Honestly its easier to believe that ruby is closer with team jnpr than she is her own team. If they showed the ops messing up during rwby vs ace ops fight due to lack of communication, then it still doesnt matter. My point is that they shouldnt have lacked teamwork in the first place.

Robyn was m e h this episode “JaMes ConTinUes to UnDeresTimAte Me” *proceeds to get knocked over in .3 seconds and is then KO for the rest of the episode* also great job for starting a fight and aiming to take clovers life in a moving airship with a terrorist on board when clover was acting PEACEFULLY and qrow was WILLING TO TALK IT OUT WITH IW and potentially work on a solution, but naw robyn is big mad and shall shoot.

Qrow made zero sense this episode too. I was with him right up until he chose TYRIAN OVER CLOVER??? THE PSYCOPATH WHO CANNOT BE REASONED WITH OVER THE RATIONAL DUDE YOU KNOW IS GOOD except clover wasnt acting rational in this fight at all and ill get to that AND IS THE ONLY FRIEND YOU HAVE WHOS NOT 19????? Qrow rly looked at tyrian- a man who is literally an enemy to all of remnant and went after ur neice- and said lets get rid of this punk together u and me bro. Like screw teaming with clover to bring down the dude you ACTUALLY have a grudge with whos also a serial killer and then trying to talk it out with clover whod be willing to do things peacefully why is this show like this

and AS FOR CLOVER. where were the braincells this episode. Qrow was trying to fight tyrian-the WAY bigger threat here, but clover??? kept knocking him away from tyrian and restraining him with his hook like??? YEAH LETS HELP OUT THE DEMON SCORPION CRACKHEAD HES CLEARLY NOT THE PRIORITY ATM nvm clover deserved to die there m8

His death scene was emotional and I feel bad for Qrow but u literally sealed his death when u ganged on him with tyrian so why are you even surprised. And on the subject of fairgame, im glad it didnt happen. Qrow was in no state for romance and I was glad he finally had a friend. He just spent the last volume thinking he wasted his life away helping oz, drowning in misery, drinking til he passed out on the street and so drunk he couldnt even be of any help during the apathy situation, when up til now hes been shown to fight just fine while drunk. I don’t see this as a “bury your gays trope” because clover was never confirmed to be gay and all their scenes added up to 40 seconds of platonic friendship. These two are grown ass men, if they had the hots for eachother then im pretty sure they could openly show it and not dance around it like theyre kids. I do feel bad for mlm viewers who were hoping for some rep with fairgame/lucky charms (cuz rt only cares if ur a cute marketable lesbian) but idc for the overly entitled fans who try to force their own headcanons on the writers and go feral when they dont get what they want. You dont just get to prance around claiming whats canon and what isnt. If rep is there then great, but if it isnt, then why not look somehwere else and let the author tell the story theyre trying to tell? Shipping fairgame cuz you think its cute is absolutely fine but not when u start getting ready to casterate crwby for not catering to you. Also, rwby sucks with lgbt+ rep anyway so what were yall expecting.

The only thing that was great this episode was the chorerography. It just sucks that the animation/choreo continues to improve while the writing doesnt. Another thing that really fell off this episode was the whole “we’re friends but we have to fight” drama. It doesnt work when its only ONE SIDE SHOWING ANY DISTRESS OVER IT. Only the ace ops (marrow, clover, the vine dude) seemed to show distress over having to fight rwby (it sucks that the only 1v1 weiss has won was because marrow was going EASY on her cuz he didnt wanna fight her fr) but rwby???? They didnt give any shits. They were so quick to turn against them and aim for their heads. They were SMILING as they ran at the ace ops, while they looked conflicted. If you oppose their UwU philosophy, you’re dead to them.

I really wanna enjoy RWBY but sometimes this show (and the fndm) really tests me. Its ironic how this episode came right after last episode, which I thought was the best chapter this volume. Anyway I rate this 10/10 cuz it gave me best character ironwood and best boi marrow and I would like to give them hugs for carrying this volume on their backs. (Also tyrian and penny and winter have been great too)

RWBY V07E07 - Worst Case Scenario

It has been two weeks since I last watched RWBY so let me try and remember what happened. There was a party, some flirting, a kiss... and that's it, right? Nothing bad happened, right? Right?

* sigh *

I assume someone is going to drop the title referring to the fallout after what happened last episode. I expect riots and Grimm, and maybe Robyn trying to commandeer the resources destined for the future Amity Tower (which is probably the only thing Ironwood _really_ cares about since he has been all "it's worth the sacrifice" the entire season so far.) I don't want to keep waiting so let's do this!

Oh no, sad Penny. What an auspicious start for the episode.

This is her dad, right? Those robot pats straddle the line between dorky and sad. I doubt the military wants Penny in the streets so I guess this is the only way he can be with her. Ugh. My heart.

Look at this crime against humanity. RT will answer for this someday!

Oh, one of the thirsty moms survived! The one with the casserole!

She's _terrified_, and with good reason. From her point of view, her own government killed her friends for daring to believe. What if she's next? Is Atlas going to start hunting everyone who supported Robyn? What about the people close to them?

We know that's not going to happen but she (and the rest of Mantle) is in all her right to believe it will

It's interesting how the scene that was, at the time, only a gag showing Jaune's bad luck and some cute kids with their moms, ended up being setup to show us how quick everything changed. Now their moms are dead and they are orphans, alone and in the cold.

Of course, this only furthers my belief that nothing good can be trusted in RWBY because it'll only be used to increase our suffering.

I'm going to _pissed_ if this happens. Stop killing Penny for god's sake.

Was Ozpin an "end justifies the means" man? I think he wasn't really, or at least he didn't consider himself one, but he had spent so much time alive he lost sight of what he was doing and asking people to do for him really meant.

In comparison Ironwood knows exactly what's going on. He believes he's doing the right thing by prioritizing the tower over his people. And maybe he's right from a global point of view? But the fact that the human lives that are going to be lost are the ones that were _already_ suffering is a supremely bad look. What's going to be left of Mantle after he saves the world?

You tell him, Nora!

Nothing good ever comes when someone says "the greater good."

Ilia said exactly the same thing back in Volume 5, almost word for word. I wonder if the callback is intentional or if there's just not that many ways to use that concept as an excuse.

I _really_ thought she was going to say "exchanging Salem for you."

I love how Nora is the one speaking up but I hate that no one is supporting her. Winter looks completely unimpressed back there but I didn't expect much from her or Clover but what about the rest?

We never got an explanation about his behavior, he didn't talk and Nora kissing him solved zero problems. Yay.

I was hoping for a cut away to them partying it up before all hell broke lose but oh well.

I _love_ that they are all right, or rather, their opinions are all understandable. I can see where both Yang and Blake are coming from and there's no way to say "ah, the show is doing everything it can to show that Yang is wrong."

Which keeps increasing my worry about how they are going to handle the end of the arc because so far the show has been very even handed but any ending where the long term sacrifice and oppression of Mantle ends up being justified is going to be... well, bad. It doesn't help that the "oppression" hasn't been really visible so it could be reaally easy to just sweep it under the carpet and just say something about "things are going to be better from now on" or even "they weren't that bad to begin with"

Anyway, this is me getting worried about things that may not even happen so I won't keep talking about it. Let me say instead how happy I am that they are still dealing with what happened with Adam and of course that would color Blake's views of what she wants to do in the future.

And is that treason I'm hearing here? I expected a team up with Robyn but I didn't expect it to come from these two. Interesting. Is Yang going to spill the beans to her about the tower and Salem?

I _really_ didn't expect this to be the answer for Penny's soul. I was in the "there's no artificial soul" camp but I expected something like Pietro transferring someone else's soul or a lost daughter, not him literally giving her part of his soul.

What does this mean for Penny? Does the part of the soul Pietro gives her grow like a plant from a cutting or everything she uses her semblance or is hurt she loses a bit more of it? It has to grow, right?

It's good to see an explanation for Pietro's death flags. Is he going to die saving Penny one last time? Jaune is learning how to manipulate his aura outwards...

Just lol at the being an obvious villain even in the group pictures.

So, is this personal for Watts? Did Ironwood choosing Penny mean the end of his career? Did he try to do whatever he planned anyway and got fired?

The hand again! Is that how she activates her semblance? But if she needs the person to grab her hand, what did she expect from Clover?

Also, props to the show for making everyone react somewhat realistically. Of course, Robyn was going to run the second she saw Ironwood's new pets.

Is Ironwood intentionally using RWBY and the rest to keep suspicions down? "They are all young and attractive, some even look innocent, there's no way they are doing anything _bad_, right?" But again, that would mean Ironwood is playing 4D chess and I'm not sure that's his deal.

Oh no. And Yang is so proud of her pun.

That was a good first step. I can't deny I was hoping for Yang and Blake to join the huntresses and kick ass but I was dreaming too big.

...so it was Ozpin idea to have a city floating above Mantle making ther differences permanently clear? Has Ozpin ever had a good idea?

Atlas is 100% going to crash into the ground. I think everyone already suspected it'd happen but this is a gigantic death flag.

Ironwood is sliding down as fast as he can down the slippery slope of the greater good. He didn't want Ozpin's opinion, he wanted Ozpin to tell him he was right.

It feels so bad to take away from Oscar's growth but I wonder if they are already merging.

That was a great episode to return to. Somehow RWBY is managing to handle all the balls it had in the air earlier in the season and hasn't dropped one yet.

I was expecting that the episode would start with Yang and Blake or Weiss and company but nope, just sadness and tragedy. Followed by more consequences, in the form of Robyn and her happy huntresses finally doing what they probably wanted to do from the start. If the "legal" way didn't work, well, time to do it anyway. That does leave me with some questions about how long was the timeskip between episodes, it can't be that same night, especially with the news showing things like "additional deaths confirmed." Maybe same week but at least a couple of days later?

Ironwood needs someone to shake him by the shoulders. Some of the things he's saying wouldn't be out of place in any villain's origin story, especially the part about wanting to get rid of his fear. I hope Jacques being the awful man he is shows him what waits for him in the other side.

Pietro's reveal about Penny's soul really feels like the biggest of his death flags so far. Him dying trying to make Penny live again really feels like end-of-season drama, considering there's no Pyrrha to kill again and apparently RT really likes killing Penny. Jaune _just_ learning about the possibilities of his semblance feels weirdly suspicious now that we know about Penny's aura but... it's a bit too out there since I think they have never talked. Or maybe it's all a misdirect and someone else ends up dying with RT winking at us saying "you really though it'd be Penny, huh?" At this point I'm not sure what'd be worst.

I liked everything about Yang and Blake's talk in the truck. I'm not a big fan of Yang's main trait lately being "dislikes secrets" (the secondary being "likes Blake") but I'm not sure if overcoming that is just her next step in her growth or if that's all there's going to be.

Their chat with Robyn was great, I can't wait for the repercussions of telling the leader of the resistance the biggest secret Atlas has. With Ironwood being who he is, it could be _bad_ for the couple which could push everyone else in one direction or the other, and not necessarily the _same_ direction, as we already saw with Ren who's officially canceled because for some reason he's going all fash (I _really_ need an explanation before the season ends)

This volume is going places, can't wait for the next episode! Until next time!

=Chapter 7

Unlike last year’s Spin The Blade debacle, Ruby had insisted that the team should have a quieter Dustmas Eve this year. One that involved cuddling up by a warm roasting fire, with a few snacks and quiet conversation. Ruby and Yang's father, Taiyang, had already headed up to bed, tired after a long day of working, and partially to allow the girls privacy.

But as the fire began to die down, there were two groups cuddling together. Ruby and Blake were under a blanket one side of the sofa, Weiss and Yang were at the other. But Weiss wasn't exactly happy with Yang's decision to snuggle her head against the top of hers.

"Do you mind, Xiao Long?" Weiss was grumbling as quietly as she could. Of course, Blake and Ruby could still easily hear her. "This is awkward, and I'm feeling rather warm."

"Oh come on, you really complaining?" she asked, wrapping her arms around the much smaller woman as she pulled her in even closer to snuggle. "Loosen up, Ice Queen."

The flailing of Weiss's small feet against the couch could be felt by all four of them. "I will not loosen up! How dare you simply assume I want to cuddle!"

"Soooo you want to sit on your own?" she demanded, opening her arms completely in a test to see if she would leave after all.

"It's like watching an old married couple," Blake whispered into Ruby's ear, pulling her in closer while they were distracted.

"Yeah," Ruby snickered. "Weiss is such a grumpy old lady in disguise."

"You jerk," Weiss grumbled as she settled against Yang again. "Just because I don't mind sitting next to you is no excuse for you to take all these liberties."

Soon enough, Yang just cuddled into Weiss once again, whispering into her ear, "You didn't mind it last Dustmas before we went to sleep…" Of course, it wasn't a volume which either of the two would hear, but it was enough to make the girl beneath her blush to the high heavens. But she wasn't distracted from the other two for too long. "And look at you two, all cozy over there."

"Hm?" Ruby said innocently. "I don't know what you're talking about."

Weiss raised an eyebrow. "What are you talking about, Yang? Aren't they always cuddly like that? It's because Ruby's such a cuddler; she even tries to rope me into it on occasion."

"Yeah, but those two seem extra cuddly. Like, couple -cuddly."

"Your point?" Blake asked, tilting her head.

"Rubes and Blakey sittin’ in a tree, K-I-S-S-I-N-G!"

The sing-song teasing made Blake blush heavily, even enough to back away from Ruby very slightly. Yang may have been joking, but there was no way she wanted to risk being found out.

"Yang, don't be a jerk!" Ruby snapped with a slight pout. "It's cold in here and Blake's warm, okay?" Already she looked sad to be robbed of her teammate's closeness.

"So go sit in front of the fire," Weiss said offhandedly. "No big deal."

"What if I don't want to sit by the fire?!"

"Weeeeiiiiss, she wants to sit with her girlfriend , can't you tell?"

"She's not my girlfriend!" Blake shouted in response, once again blushing madly. It was true they weren't officially an item, but with the amount the two cuddled together and how much they had done, it was fairly obvious. But if Yang knew for sure that they were fooling around, she may as well write out her will there and then.

"Wow, thanks for sounding so grossed out by the idea," Ruby muttered glumly.

"W-What? I didn't- that’s not what I… can I actually win here?"

"Nope,” Yang snorted. “Welcome to dating, pussycat!"

With a reluctant sigh, her head just rested on top of Ruby's head, blowing a few stray strands away. "I didn't say we were dating!" Ruby snapped at her sister.

"OooOOOOooohh, someone is touchy!" Yang continued to tease, leaning back against the sofa as she gazed over at the clock. It was close to midnight. "Anyway, it's pretty much time for bed. Will you two lovebirds be both sleeping down here again, or should I set up the spare room?"

But Blake just looked back down to Ruby again. If she requested to sleep in the same room as her now, it would be too suspicious. And there wasn't any way she wanted to share a room with Weiss. "I'll take the sofa. That way we all get some privacy."

"No, I'll take the sofa," Ruby insisted. "You can sleep with Weiss, and Yang can sleep by HERSELF!"

"What? But I…" Then the heiress's cheeks pinkened slightly. "I mean, yes, of course! Wh-what possible reason would I have for finding fault with that arrangement? It's not as if I'd want to sleep with Yang, or anything!"

"Oh, thanks." Yang teased, finally shuffling around so she could stand up again, stretching her arms over her head as she yawned loudly. "Well, looks like you got a room, Blake; I'm sure Ruby won't mind you taking her bed."

"Yep!" Ruby said brightly. "That's- hey, wait, what's that supposed to mean?!"

"Don't worry," Weiss breathed as quietly as she could to Yang. "As soon as Blake's asleep I can slip away." The blonde left a quick wink at her friend, before she headed upstairs with the other two.

Of course, Blake looked back toward Ruby before she followed them upstairs. All she wished was that she could slip away easily to stay down with her, much like the previous Dustmas. But it seemed that was more difficult this year.

"Don't look so down," Ruby hissed as she approached the staircase. "We'll have the morning, too, right?"

"Yeah. Till the morning." She gave one last smile, before turning to head upstairs.

Just as they had arranged, Yang had her room, Weiss took the spare, and Blake had taken Ruby's room. Which was unfortunately Zwei's room of choice to sleep in also. She had gotten used to the little mutt by now, but when a dog was snoring most of the night it was difficult to relax. Every now and again, she found herself looking back to her scroll to check what time it was, since she couldn’t sleep. That was until around 1:30, when she received something more than the time.

At that, Blake perked back up again. Unwrap a present this early? Or did Ruby mean other things? The two had become more and more adventurous in their escapades in the months after the gym incident. There was Blake's birthday, when Ruby insisted she was a flavour of ice cream for her to savour, and following that plenty of other moments when they had been alone and took full advantage. Maybe she could expect more of the same.

One way to find out. Tying her robe around herself, she slipped by Weiss's room and crept downstairs. And when she finally saw her present laying under the bush, she stopped in her tracks.

There, splayed reclining beneath the Dustmas Bush, lit by the flickering fireplace, was Ruby – and she was dressed in a way Blake had never seen. What did people usually do and say in this situation? Was the condom something the 'man' should do themselves, or another thing they could both enjoy? If anything it was more strange that she required one.

Her rambling was cut off by lips reaching up and pressing against her own, kneading against them softly and slowly in a deep, meaningful kiss. Blake had no energy to go for fast or intimate, so she strove to pour her heart and soul into their delicate embrace.

When Ruby pulled back several minutes later, she was sobbing with heavy tears rolling down her cheeks, face redder than a beetroot and trembling all over.

"Ruby?" Blake could only whisper, reaching a hand up to caress the cheek of her partner. One thumb brushed away a tear falling there. "What's wrong? Are you okay?"

"Yes?" she blubbered unconvincingly. "Just… it's a lot for some reason and I'm really happy, but… Blake, I don't know why I'm crying, what's wrong with me?"

"Hey, hey." The Faunus wrapped her arms around the smaller girl, bringing her closer into her to cuddle her closely. In comparison to Blake, Ruby was rather tiny, which made Blake often the one to cover her when they cuddled. But in a way, it was something Blake rather liked: to be her protector throughout everything. Be it Grimm attacks, sexual activities, or setting her own arm on fire thanks to a finicky stove.

"There's nothing wrong with you, Ruby. I'm sure if our positions were reversed, I'd be the same as well. And if I was a normal girl, we’d both be blubbery messes together."

Ruby's muffled voice replied, "Hey, you are normal. And at least you can handle yours and don't break down crying because you're the happiest you've ever been! This m-makes no sense! I just… I just love you so much, Blake!"

"Yeah, well it’s not all it’s cracked up to- wait. You… love me?" The words echoed through her mind. Even though she didn’t need to explore her feelings to know she loved Ruby just as much, she never truly believed anyone would feel for her in that way. Not in her life.

So she needed it confirmed. Looking into her lover's silver eyes once more, she asked again, "You really love me?"

Sniffling, Ruby nodded emphatically. The only sound that would come from her throat in that moment was an ugly, high-pitched whine. There were many more questions Blake felt she needed to ask. Why? How? When? All of which related to her paranoia about her own personality and body, instilled in her by an unkind man with a heart of coal. But Ruby had poured her soul out to her, despite all those issues. Time and time again, Ruby had shown she loved her, and with no guarantee of anything in return. Her feelings would have been rude to question any further.

But her own had to be shown. It was kept secret for too long.

"I love you, too, Ruby Rose."

"R-really?" Petting her hand along Blake's cat ears, she then grinned blearily and kissed the tip of her nose. "Th-thank you, I… gosh, I love you so much, a-and I'm so glad we're friends, Blake!"

"Yeah. Me, too. Actually… did you- okay this is going to sound stupid, especially after how close we've been this past year. But did you want to be more than friends? Officially?" Despite her denial of their relationship when Weiss and Yang were present, it only made sense. They already enjoyed being with each other more than with anyone else, and now had done the thing most couples do with one another; forged a sacred bond for life. It would be the logical option.

"Well, obviously we are, just… isn't friends the most important thing you can be with a person?"

"I meant girlfriend… If you wanted to be?"

Ruby tilted her head to one side. "I'm a girl and you're a girl, and we're friends, and we're girlfriends. Seems pretty simple to me."

"Okay, okay,” she laughed, pulling her in even closer for a moment. “So you wouldn't mind me calling you my little flower?"

"Flower? Me?! I'm not that flower-like, I don't think… why would you call me that?"

"Ruby Rose?" Though she had a point. Personality wise, Ruby was nothing like a flower. She was determined, jolly, energetic. The complete opposite. If anything, she more resembled Zwei in her personality.

"Oh." Blushing just a little more than she already was, Miss Rose whispered, "And, um… you can be my big flower, right, Belladonna?"

"Maybe. Or…" She quickly leant down to nip at her neck repeatedly, bringing her head up only once to say, "Your lioness. Always protecting you." And then she was back to nipping her neck again. Ruby let out a breathy laugh as her lover teased her neck with her teeth, grinning into her black mane.

"Mmhh… I don't know if I could handle a second time right now…"

"Uuuuuhhh…." She stopped a moment to look back down to her own sex. Which was completely asleep thanks to their earlier activities – and still wearing the condom at that. "Yeah, I think we'll just leave it at the once for tonight. I don't think I'd survive a round two, either."

"You'd survive, you're tough. But yeah, no point in pushing it." Kissing Blake's cheek gently, she whispered into one of her pink human ears, "Should we go get cleaned up a little before we go to sleep?"

"Good idea. Surviving round two is one thing, but I know I wouldn't survive whatever Yang would do if she found me like this with you. Or smelled the evidence in the morning." As much as she was joking, it was a fear of hers. Yang was her good friend; best friend even. The last thing she wanted to do was sneak behind her back, but it was the safest option.

“Yeah, you’re right. Really gonna make midnight showers a regular Dustmas tradition!”

“Hm? What do you mean?”

The grinning girl shrugged and rolled her eyes. “Nevermind. Just something I might wanna try next Dustmas… we’ll see.”

Shifting a moment to allow Ruby to get back up, she leant back upright to get the ribbons off her, and then reached for her clothes to fetch her underwear. It was a rather quick trip to the bathroom, relatively speaking. It was clear that Ruby felt the temptation to do things to Blake's glistening member when they tossed the used condom into the toilet, but she restrained herself and simply helped rinse it off in the shower. They didn’t dawdle overly, however, and were quickly back in the living room with Ruby perched on top of Blake again as they lay on the couch.

"I wasn't the only one giving presents today," Ruby breathed affectionately.

"I gave you wood for Dustmas?" she chuckled, tossing the thick wool throw over the top of them both, she nuzzled into the sofa to find the best position possible to sleep in, cuddling into the woman laying on top of her. Ruby had convinced her that she would be up far before Yang was. There was no way to convince her to get fully dressed and go upstairs just yet, no matter how often she tried to warn her this was not the wisest idea.

Not that she really minded. She couldn’t be upset with Ruby by her side.

"Are you really uncomfortable with me in my undies?" she whispered as they settled against each other. "I mean, I'd rather be like this, but if it makes you feel funny…"

"I would love to be in my undies with you. It's just…" Looking back up toward the stairs again, her ears tilted downward with worry. "You're sure you'll be up before Yang?"

"Definitely," she giggled. "You know she snores until noon if she can help it." Then Ruby kissed against Blake's neck as she began to drift off. "Thanks for making this the best Dustmas ever."

A small kiss landed on the top of Ruby's head as she nuzzled down into the soft sofa with her, beginning to close her eyes as she too drifted away.

"Thanks for making this the best year ever, Ruby."

"Oh for pity’s sake, Weiss," Yang muttered as she tried the door to the upstairs bathroom. As much as she wanted to have slept till noon, nature was calling her name. And thanks to a certain heiress's morning beauty regime, the upstairs bathroom was unavailable. There was only the downstairs half-bath.

Rushing down in only her bra and pyjama bottoms, she dashed across the living room and toward the other bathroom, not taking a moment to spare a glance to her sister before she went to relieve herself. That was so much better! Humming happily, she washed up and then left to head back upstairs and nap just a little bit longer.

However, the sight that greeted her when she made her way back toward her room was enough to stop her in her tracks.

In the middle of the night, the cover had fallen off the sofa, exposing the two girls together. Both of their legs were tangled in each others, and Ruby was in nothing but her underwear. At first, she didn’t know quite what to make of it – until the two shifted slightly, and Blake kissed Ruby's cheek.

"Morning, Big Flower," Ruby whispered to Blake with a telling smile. "Man, why is it so cold in here? Did the fire go out?"

The blonde's hands clenched into fists at the clearly intimate words. Already she could feel her blood beginning to boil as she stared at them both, vision going slightly red.

"Ruby," she snarled through gritted teeth – earning both of their attention. "Get, dressed, now."

"Huh?" Ruby attempted to turn enough to look at her sister, but she overcompensated and wound up falling off the couch and onto the floor, landing with an undignified thump. "OW!"

“Yang,” was all Blake managed to breathe, eyes wide as dinner plates now that they were open.

"Okay. That works." Once her little sister was out of the way, Yang leant over the sofa to grasp the cloth of her teammate's gown close to her neck. Which snapped her out of it completely.

"Y-Yang?!" But before she could react properly, she was being lifted up and off the sofa, reduced to a flailing mess as she tried to grasp her hands. "Yang, wait, please let me explain!"

"Not girlfriends, you said? So you're just screwing. Good to know." With the woman in her grasp, she was already headed for the front door with her.

"Yang?" Ruby breathed, scrambling to her feet. "W-wait, don't do-"

But Yang had already kicked the front door open. "Just taking out the TRASH!"

And with that final word, she threw tossed her teammate out of the house and into the freezing cold snow, hearing a rather loud mewl when she hit the ground. Before she could even get herself back up again, the door slammed shut behind her, and a rather triumphant looking blonde paced back toward the living room, dusting off her hands.

"YAAAAAAANG!" Ruby wailed, standing there with her fists clenched. "What the heck do you think you're doing?!"

"Mornin'." She continued to pat her hands against one another. The expression however still hadn't changed. It was probably the angriest she had ever seen the party girl – even counting the times she had her luxurious hair pulled. "I see you two had a good night."

"W-we…" Her cheeks started to flush with colour as she remembered, but she forced that away. "That's none of your business, Yang! Why did you throw Blake out of our house?!"

"That's a ‘yes’ then." She folded her arms as she glared at the younger girl. "Because when someone has their paws all over my baby sister, who is barely legal to do that kinda thing, I'm not gonna stand there and let it happen!"

"Well, too late! It already happened!"

Then Ruby threw her hands up to cover her mouth. Clearly it hadn't been her intention to so openly admit what had transpired the night before. Besides, even though she was pretty sure she was in the right for this current argument, Yang still looked beyond incensed. The once angry expression turned to surprise. The words came from her sister’s own mouth, the very ones she didn't want to hear. Her best friend! Her best friend had already claimed her little sister’s virginity right under her nose!

"…How long?" When there was no immediate reply, she pressed, “How long have you two been… y’know, doing this shit?”

"Long enough." Then she reconsidered. Yang looked hurt, even though Ruby couldn't figure out why. "Alright! Really, um, we've been kissing and stuff for about a year, but last night was the first… do we really have to talk about this?"

"She's had her paws all over you for a year?" Then the penny dropped further. "She's been doing this stuff with you before you were legal?!"

"It's not illegal to kiss and cuddle, Yang! Gosh, would you grow up already?!"

"Grow up?! Me grow up?!" Though quickly glancing upstairs, she then quelled her voice a little, stepping closer to her sister. "Do you have any idea what Dad would do if he found out about this? Being thrown into the snow is nothing compared to what he'd do to her!"

Straightening, Ruby puffed out her chest and put her hands on her hips. "What would he do? Tell me I can't see Blake anymore because we like each other? You know Dad wouldn't be like that! For God's sake, he was married twice! He knows love can't be stopped just because my big sister’s all mad and stuff!"

"You're sixteen, Ruby, there is a huge difference!"

"I'm seventeen!" Ruby pressed. "Can't you even remember my age when you're being all judgey?!"

"It's still just… just…!" Unable to fathom the words together she merely yelled loudly before shoving her face into her hands. "It's just wrong! My baby sister and my best friend just… just feels so beyond wrong!"

"You don't think I felt this way when you and Weiss started sneaking around and kissing in broom closets? That it didn't make me a little sad that you two had this thing that I couldn't quite understand? I… I know it's hard, but you can't just throw people outside when they do something you don't like!"

"How did you know about-" But shaking her head, she looked back up to her sister again. She was right. Getting mad at her and Blake was rather hypocritical. Love was love, Yang knew that all too well. And though she had never told Ruby, even she was active in such ways when she was that age. Even though it was with boys in her case.

"I… listen. You're my baby sister , okay? I’m supposed to be protecting you! And even if she’s not a creep, like… Blake's my best friend! Battle partner! I don't want either of you two to get hurt! I don't want to end up in a situation when I have to choose between you both."

"Choose?" Falling quiet for a moment, Ruby seemed to realise where Yang was coming from. Nothing was certain; there might come a day when she and Blake would split up. If that happened, it wouldn't be easy for the blonde bombshell to side with one of them over the other.

"That's not for sure, though. Maybe we'll be fine, and you'll just have your best friend… be part of our family. Wouldn't you want that?"

Yang sighed once again, staring down at the floor as she started to realise where her sister was coming from. She was thinking about the bad so much that she was ignoring the possible good. "Yeah. Damn right – of course I would."

"We both like Blake, you dummy. I just like her… a little more than you thought I did, that's all. And I'm sorry I didn't say anything, but like, I was a little afraid of how you'd react." Ruby left that last bit hanging, waiting for Yang to connect the dots.

"Oh… well… wow. I'm an idiot." She held her hand behind her head in embarrassment. "Sorry, Rubes. Damn. I wish you both good luck, but… I'm gonna have to get used to this. I still feel like I wanna punch something."

Nodding, Ruby snatched the blanket from the floor and draped it around her sister’s shoulders. "We’ll get there. But just so you know, this really wasn't the way I wanted you to find out, though… I thought you would be up later like usual."

"That does sound like me,” she laughed weakly. “And I'm sorry for however you found out about Ice Queen and I… like, what tipped you off? We were so careful!"

“Oh, nah, it’s a funny story, actually,” Ruby piped up. “Remember that time Weiss was making a papier-mâché rooster? And you were supposed to-”

But almost as if purely because of the mention of her name, said Ice Queen let out a shrill scream from upstairs.

"Whoa, talk about timing," Ruby breathed.

"WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" came the shout as the bathroom door slammed open, Weiss backpedaling into view on the landing with a towel wrapped around herself, cheeks pink and expression livid.

“Weiss?!” Yang shouted in alarm.

When the other two finally ran up the stairs to see what was going on, they were met with a snow-coated Faunus hauling herself in through the open bathroom window, thankfully placed above the bath full of still-hot water that Weiss had left ready. She hadn't even had chance to get in herself, but already Blake had lowered herself into it, sighing contently at the heat.

"Warm… s-so warm…"

"HEY!" Weiss snapped, stomping to the edge of the tub. "That's my bathwater! Draw your own, you- you bath-thieving pervert!"

"N-N-Nope… Warm…" The ears tilted down in contentment as she sank lower into the water. There wasn't even an ounce of concern that it was soaking her pyjamas, neither was there any concern that the teammates were staring.

"Okay, I'll take the blame for this one,” Yang confessed, bringing Weiss in closer to her so Ruby couldn't see too much of the heiress. “I kinda threw her outside."

"You threw… wait, why would you do such a thing? And why would she climb in through my window?!"

"Ummm, because Yang locked the front door?" Ruby put in. “It is pretty cold out.”

Weiss looked between the three of them for a moment. "Am I missing something here? What on Remnant could Blake have done that would be deserving of getting kicked out of your home?"

"Uuuuhhh… well, now that I had a chance to really think about it… nothing." The blonde looked back toward her sister at that comment, smiling lightly to show that all was forgiven between them. “I’m just a big jerk. Sorry, Blake.”

“Mmhhhhh,” the poor frozen woman responded.

While Ruby was returning the smile and nodding with approval and gratitude, Weiss was blustering, "This is just fantastic! I take ten minutes to shave my legs and everyone else on my team takes complete leave of their senses!"

"Waaaaarm," Blake couldn't help but mutter one more time, before submerging her head for a short moment. Ruby grinned and flocked to her side, perching herself on the edge of the toilet and taking up Blake’s hand to hold. Blake gripped back, slitting an eye open to gaze back at her as they exchanged a private little smile.

“My big warm silly,” Ruby whispered.

"Sheesh,” Yang sighed with a shake of her head. “And I thought cats were supposed to hate water."

“Merry Dustmas!”

Ruby grinned up at her father as he passed out the hot cocoa to the four teammates. The black-haired Faunus was in fresh clothes, though an extra blanket was draped over her back in addition to the other one hiding their laps. “Merry Dustmas, Dad! Thanks!”

“My pleasure,” he hummed with a big grin, which offset his five o’clock shadow nicely. “You girls really livened up this house around the holidays; I thought it was just gonna be me and a big plate of convenience store sushi.”

“You’d get food poisoning,” Yang laughed as she snuggled up with Weiss under the big blanket. Luckily said blanket kept her father from seeing Weiss’s hand clasping hers.

“Nahhh.” Then he handed one to Blake. “And for you, Miss Belladonna.” “Thanks,” she whispered with a small smile as he left for the kitchen. Then she looked between the other three girls and whispered under her breath, “I feel… bad.”

“Yeah,” Ruby admitted with a long sigh. “Poor Dad; both his girls are super gay, and have super cute girlfriends – and we’re all in his house! And he doesn’t know he’s got potential new family people here!”

Weiss’s cheeks pinkened as she hid her face partially behind her mug. “H-hey! Quiet, you – that’s- d -don’t make such big assumptions!”

“Awww, isn’t she the cutest?” Yang cooed as she snuggled her way too much, causing them both to have to fight to keep their mugs upright.

Meanwhile, Blake turned her attention to the adorable brunette in her lap. The one with the big grin as she watched her sister and her teammate squabbling playfully at the other end of the couch. And she felt contentment settle over her like she had never known in her life. Too much time spent fighting for Faunus rights, the White Fang… but now, she had a new chapter in her life to look forward to. One by the side of the cutest girl at Beacon.

“Hm?” Ruby finally hummed when she looked up to see she was being observed.

“Oh, n-nothing,” she hedged with a warm grin of her own. They shared a quick kiss – too afraid of being caught by a certain parent to make it any longer than that – and then leaned their foreheads together. “Just happy.”

“Happy is good, Blake. I’m full of happy, too.”

Then a large serving platter was nudging Blake’s arm, distracting her from the smile-fest. Yang’s expression was a little manic, but she was trying to simply smile at her battle partner. “Dustmas cookie?”

“Don’t mind if I do,” she laughed as she and Ruby both took one apiece. “Thanks, Yang.”

“You got it. Better that you be nibbling one of these than nibbling anyth-”

“YANG!” Ruby burst out in exasperation. “Cut it out!”

“Just leave them alone!” Weiss added sternly.

“Whaaat? I didn’t even do anything!”

While the other two resumed their ceaseless bickering, Blake leaned her head against Ruby’s for another moment. “Merry Dustmas, Big Flower,” Ruby whispered up at her as they bumped their mugs into each other, cookies in their other hands ready to be enjoyed.

“And a very Merry Dustmas to you, too.”

tiki being a music nerd for 13 minutes straight

uhhHh so oscar and ozpin’s theme are mixing more ?? i hear little bits and pieces of ozpin’s theme , then oscar’s in ‘trouble on the argus limited’

in the same track , ‘trouble on the argus limited’ , ozpin’s theme begins to play , but then takes a ,,, darker, more sinister sounding note instead of that higher , more hopeful note in his theme that he usually has

the main theme , rising can be heard when ruby is telling the plan in ‘trouble on the argus limited’ and it’s soft , but it’s there , which carries on the theme that they’re trusting ‘in the light’ and ‘rising like the moon’

the playful theme in ‘mistral central station’ that captures the character’s excitements ?? amazing

then it goes into dee and dudley’s theme that sound Annoying as Heck , and then it blends into qrow’s theme ?? beautiful stunning amazing bird dad

then you hear ozpin’s theme again , which slowly gets taken over by oscar’s theme again , and they they seem to blend together again , like they have been doing

the piano part of smile in ‘mistral central station’ gave me goosebumps !! ilia has come such a long way as a character and it makes me happy that she funny has a straight path she Wants to go on

and there it is - ‘like morning follows night’ - a perfect , slow , version of it that really enraptures sun’s ,,, softness for blake and how he came to support her and after all , he did support her and help her and that makes me soo happy

but then it trails off into a lighter tune when the camera pans to yang and her friends and hhhHhh im soft

wow then it takes a dramatic tone shift to a dark and sinister theme for ‘spider’s web’ because cinder is starting to get into some Shady Shit™️ because she’s desperate for any kind of information on anyone

and then it pans right into that cue music that neo is Right There™️ , ready to attack , and then it goes into softer , more sinister and mischievous music that shows that wow they’re actually up to something , and it’s going to be big and bad and it’s going to put someone to shame

AND THEN THE THEME OF ALL THINGS MUST DIE PLAYING SOFTLY AND SLOWLY ??? amazing. im so excited akdhsks

all things must die slowly transitions into one thing and that makes me happy because it’s their two themes blending into one another , showing that they’re working together - but the sinister undertones show that they don’t fully trust each other and there Are secrets and undertones being kept

‘say her name’ starts out soft and slow and relaxing , but then gets more mysterious and faster as it goes , showing the severity of the situation

ozpin is being really shady and not that trustful right now , and oscar’s trying to Fight It to give them the information they need and stuff , which shows through the undertones of his theme playing throughout the track , then his theme slowly taking over , showing that he is fighting against ozpin’s control - he wants to be his own person , which is way it’s even more upsetting when qrow says that he isn’t

and then the music picks up and up and up faster and faster and louder and louder , showing ruby’s decision to say jinn’s name -

and then it goes silent. it stops

and whOOsh jinn !! genie in a bottle !! genie in a lamp !! her upcoming theme has a few familiar notes that form a familiar melody , but they’re hard to place

and then the music picks up , showing ozpin’s desperation to keep things ‘close to the chest’ and BOOM the music stops

im literally going to do an entirely different thing for ‘a delicate balance’ because there’s so much to say about this track - and it’s e i g h t m i n u t e s

‘our creation’ - im guessing it’s for the god of light’s moment with ozma

it’s soft , slow , and with the choir in the background , it makes the music seem ,,, important and urgent - like something Needs to be done and that something needs to be done quickly

and oof ozma’s theme soft in the background , showing that after all , he is still human and he wants a normal life and all that and hhhh i feel so bad

‘brunswick farms’ has that sinister , dangerous vibe , but we’re not sure what it is yet - dangerous , mysterious - we don’t know.

and it’s slow - it slows down at certain points to really emphasize on the scariness

the slow piano at a certain point gives it a certain softness that it shouldn’t have - a false sense of security , if you will . but then it turns into more mysterious , with hints of qrow’s theme (which im guessing is for the part of his drinking™️) that is slow

AND OH SHIT THERES THE PART WITH THE DROPPING OF THE BOTTLE

and ruby YANKS herself up and woAh that’s kinda scary

‘the apathy’ is probably the scariest track in the ost. it’s slow , sinister , and it’s literally telling you something is about to happen

AND THEN THE MUSIC PICKS UP !! ITS THE SLEEP PARALYSIS DEMON BAY BEE

they’re running they’re running they’re running they’re running uh oh sisters

every time the music slows down it stops the melody slightly , that’s the part where the apathy SCREAMS , slowly zapping the motivation out of them

and each time it gets louder and louder and bigger because their influence is getting more and more overwhelming

and then the music slows down slightly because they’re giving up , and the sinister , scary theme is getting louder and louder - and then the silver eyes stops the music for a split second

and maria is over there , trying to coach ruby into using her eyes and then - BAM

and now they’re running out of the house , yelling for oscar to GET THE DAMN TIRE

and weiss sets the HOUSE ON FIRE and wow she’s committed arson

and they have to get the HECK out of there as quick as they possibly can

im doing something completely different for the grimm reaper skjsk

‘welcome to argus’ gave me goosebumps. the soft ,, piano of ‘rising’ gives them hope - gives us hope - because they made it. after all that shit , they made it. finally.

and then it gets into a more cheerful , nice theme of argus , with little notes of oscar’s theme in the beginning because ‘CUTE BOY OZ’ and then they’re touring around argus , looking at all the sights and stuff

ruby’s surprise in jaune’s sister is shown through the ‘ooh !!’ moment in the music that interrupts the melody of the entire track

‘cashews’ is amazing. it’s shows the literal stupidity of the entire interaction - from maria and cordoven’s banter , to a more serious match music , then slower , sadder music because ‘oop racism’ , but then it picks up again lmao

there isn’t much to say about the track ‘silver eyes’ but it shows the softness - the emotion - that goes into using silver eyes

‘jaune’s arc’ gives me whiplash. because it’s slow in the beginning - then it picks up speed to show jaune’s anger as he shoves oscar against the wall and Yells because his love died for ‘nothing’ , and he lets oscar go with sadness and regret , but he doesn’t say anything. and then as they’re looking for him , jaune has time to think things over. you hear the melody of ‘forever fall’ towards the middle , then the melody - the song itself - takes over as something to signify that jaune really Misses her , but gets closure

AND THEN OSCAR’S THEME !! HAPPY , HAPPY BOY !! its so happy !! he feels good about his new clothes - and despite what he says , he gave himself closure for now , but im sure itll be touched upon later because of the cut off of his theme , interrupted by qrow’s theme to show qrow’s grumpiness and all that

and then ruby’s speech !! she had a little bit too many speeches , but the theme ‘rising’ plays again , to show her - their - determination to get to atlas and figure it out because they WILL rise like the moon - like the sun - no matter what. they won’t give up.

‘the heist’ !! a theme that gives everyone Anxiety because no one thought it would work , and the moment it did work , it didn’t . weiss and maria sneak onto the airship and take them out , with the others standing around waiting , and yang and blake off on their own

a small version of oscar’s theme plays as he comforts ruby , showing how much he’s grown into his own character

and then the music picks up and oof it turns suspenseful because oh Shit where’s blake

‘into the canon’ is not only scary on screen , but also scary music wise. it’s suspenseful , it mixes both blake and yang’s fights and the other fight together. the music is fast and urgent , showing that they have to get away and fast and if it doesn’t work , bad things will happen. bad things are going to happen.

but first !! the battle music for cordoven’s fight. fast , playful , serious at the same time. it shows both perspectives of the fight - absolute absurdity , which cordoven feels , and the urgency that the team feels. cordoven thinks this is childish - disgraceful. the team thinks this is important - something that Has to happen or else they can’t complete their mission.

and ruby goes DOWN THE CANON

i have to do an entirely different thing for ‘protecting each other’ too

OH NO HERE COMES THE GRIMM

the music gets dangerous , crazy , fast - they have to do something quick or bad things will happen and that won’t be okay. huntsman and huntresses are supposed to protect - if they can’t do that , then what are they good for ?

jinn’s theme , then the hopeful theme of indomitable is just 👌👌

-‘flight to atlas’ gives closure - peace that they couldn’t find for a while. it’s slow , soft , showing that they made it - it was a long , stressful process , but they made it. with a lighter version of qrow’s theme , small undertones of ozpin’s and oscar’s theme , and then how the music SWELLS when they see atlas because it’s beautiful - it’s grand , it’s amazing - and they made it. there’s a sense of triumph in there , a sense of urgency and a sense of pride. they rose , and they’re going to try and stay there
