In all seriousness, I don’t think Americans understand what’s happening, or how bad it is. Our politicians on every level (presidents, mayors, governors) universities, businesses, and police forces are ignoring their own citizens in favor of another country (Israel).
Understand how wild it is that Israel controls America the way it does. Our country has been captured by a foreign government. How can we even speak of a democracy when another country can get students expelled from school and people fired from their jobs?
The Supreme Court is openly bought off and corrupt. How many times does Clarence Thomas need to be caught up before he gets removed from the bench? Democrats are getting third parties kicked off of ballots. Trump didn’t do this. America’s problems go beyond him.
If what we are seeing at Columbia University, happening in New York, a blue state, were happening in Lynchburg, Virginia, at Liberty University, Liberals would be up in arms about the injustice, and how those students are being treated. The hypocrisy of it all.
Why the fuck do we have police forces that go to a foreign country to train in combat tactics? Who are their combatants, if not every day US citizens? None of this should be happening. Y’all can’t see this shit? This don’t seem fucked up to y’all?
The ADL openly brags about the politicians they get into office! Truly, I feel like I’m the only sober person in a car full of drunk idiots, who are about to drive us over a cliff and kill us all. Y’all are staying loyal to political parties like their sports teams, grow up!
Our entire government regardless of party affiliation, Democrats and Republicans seem to be working harder for, and in defense of another country, over the material needs of the citizens that voted for them, and who’s tax dollars pay their salary. Y’all aren’t mad enough for me.
You can’t afford rent, you don’t have healthcare, your student loans are crippling you, you don’t make living wages, you don’t have guaranteed housing, you have lead filled water, bridges are collapsing, and the politicians that you voted for can’t even pretend to give a fuck.

"But just"/"Why don't you just?" is not always the magic solve you think it is, boomers
Feeling a little disheartened today by the way that my mum point-blank refuses to acknowledge structural barriers. And I do think it is at least partially a generational thing.
The thing about the deck being stacked against you that has the most impact, and that certain folk of a certain age seem unable to put together is that...
You reach a point in your life, or in your career, or in your day to day financial situation where not only is there no magical solution, there are also no good options.
And it's the kind of situation where it's not the case where there are no good options because you, the individual, made mistakes or burned bridges or wasted your starting out nest egg or your initial savings so you have only yourself to blame - or even where if you just reduced your basic outgoings down several levels you'd be able to build a nest egg (back) up in order to give yourself more options again... There just aren't any good options from the jump.
Recent solves my mum has put to me as if I'm not an adult, in my 30s, living independently in another country from her with over 10 years' working experience, include:
Why don't you just get a higher paying job?
Why don't you get a pension?
Why don't you buy a house?
Why don't you move further away from your work (and your established community and the amenities you rely on) so you can buy a house?
The undertone implication is a) that we haven't already considered all the options before us, done the calculations and concluded that (unfortunately, as if it worked out it would be helpful) it isn't viable right now, and b) that by not doing these things you are somehow deliberately crafting your own misery and setting yourself up for more hardship, instead of the reality that we are making the best of what's available to us within the system that is how our generation are asked to live and exist.
I don't 'just get a higher paying job' because the structural barriers are my lack of education and my lack of social connections among the higher strata of the demographic that, by their wealth-funded access to as many qualifications as they would like to pay for, and by being able to buy the time to complete them, holds a monopoly on hiring. That's something that's come from making education something available to the highest bidder, rather than grant-funded and obtainable by anyone with the capacity to qualify for the course.
I don't have a pension (right now) because I can't afford one. The minimum contribution that I can make by law to a pension is 10% of my income a month, and I can't afford to lose an extra 10% of my income when I'm already paying around that out of my salary to a student loan with compound interest that was sold to me as a loan that wouldn't have compound interest added. I'm also paying 50%+ of my income per month on housing alone, and more on bills. Where am I supposed to find more? And of course, if my salary goes up, so too does the amount I'm meant to pay back the student loan.
I don't buy a house because I can't afford one, despite saving for a deposit for several years. Unfortunately, Liz Truss crashed the economy last year and as a result, the banks don't offer mortgages as high as they used to, and require larger deposits for properties. As such the amount that I have saved up might have been enough to put down a healthy deposit two years ago, but now, isn't. And I can't save any more because of the aforementioned draws on my income above.
And if I was to move further afield to buy a house, what's the benefit to me? I'd have to spend more money on my commute, I'd probably have to live in a much less safe area, and it's going to be cold comfort to me that I own a property if I end up getting assaulted or stabbed on my way home at night.
Trust me, I would love to live in an era where I didn't have to overthink these basics. Where the fact that I have a college degree and multiple years of specialised work experience across multiple sectors including private business and government would actually count for something and afford me a solid and stable standard of living.
But it doesn't any more. And this is my life, and the lives of many of us nowadays. And we can't just sit and mope about it, we have to accept it, and adapt, and do the best we can to keep going until something gets a little easier for us, until the luck of the draw rolls our way or until someone with the power and ability through government or big business to effect a real change takes that shot and acts to make things just that bit less bleak for us.
Until then, a little empathy wouldn't hurt instead of a lecture.

Mafia au info?
On my way to reply after 100 years..! Thank you for waiting and thank you for being interested in this AU!
Mafia AU is actually not that different from whatever the octa-trio is doing in canon: the age is different (they’re 20+), the scale is bigger and the crime aspect is more prominent, which makes the AU kinda grim in nature.
Jade and Floyd are children of one of the scariest mafia leaders from the Coral Sea (even though their dad is also quite powerful and famous/infamous on land), so they’ve been in that world since they were little. And now they’re working for their childhood friend Azul, who is quite successful in his ventures: both his restaurant and his secret business, which is money loaning, protection services, and some other types of benevolent and almost gratuitous help. He especially likes to help other small businesses that might struggle to get by, he built himself up from basically nothing, so he knows how hard it could be :( He has several restaurant spots (he also wants to open a casino one day…), and almost in every one of them there is a room for, well, business meetings. Sometimes Azul’s clients decide to abuse his benevolence and not to pay what they owe to him after his help, so Jade and Floyd help Azul to persuade them! Sounds familiar, doesn’t it?
Despite the fact that Azul is Floyd’s and Jade’s boss, he could also be under the Leech family’s wing; I kinda like to think that the Leech dad entrusted his sons to Azul so they could learn some work ethics and build character before they become the heads of the family. But maybe Azul is completely autonomous in his work, but even if that’s the case, he clearly respects the Leech family very much and has good relationship with them. He knows how to play his cards right, that’s for sure.
Azul does have several ill-wishers and competitors, so the tweels get to have a lot of fun hanging around him; you never know when Azul is going to get attacked. This is such a shame though: Azul prefers to build bridges and not to burn them, but some kids don’t know how to play fair… :( Oh well.
As you can see, we don’t have much concrete lore yet, but this is what’s great about this AU: the amount of potential scenarios is huge, almost unlimited lol, and I really want to draw more of this AU in the future.

The Vitruvian Man is a famous drawing by Leonardo da Vinci, the Italian Renaissance artist and scientist. It shows a man in two positions, with his arms and legs spread out, inside a circle and a square. The drawing is based on the writings of Vitruvius, an ancient Roman architect, who described the ideal proportions of the human body. Leonardo wanted to explore the relationship between man and nature, and how the human body reflects the harmony of the universe. He also used his own measurements and observations, as well as the works of other artists and scholars, to create his own version of the perfect human figure. The drawing is very detailed and precise, with notes and calculations in Leonardo’s characteristic mirror writing. It is considered one of the most iconic images of Western civilization, and a symbol of the Renaissance spirit of art and science. It's now kept in the Gallerie dell’Accademia in Venice, Italy, but it is rarely displayed to the public because of its fragility and sensitivity to light. It was loaned to the Louvre in 2019 for a special exhibition marking the 500th anniversary of Leonardo’s death.

* * * *
"What is needed is either a new understanding of God or a new understanding of Man: an understanding of God that does not insult the scientific mind while offering bread, not a stone, to the deepest hunger of the heart; or an understanding of Man that squarely faces the criminal weakness of our moral will while holding out to us the knowledge of how we can strive within ourselves to become the fully human being we are meant to be-both for ourselves and as instruments of a higher purpose. But this is not an either/or. The premise—or, rather, the proposal—of this book is that at the heart of the Christian religion there exists, and has always existed, just such a vision of both God and Man.
I call it “lost Christianity,” not because it is a matter of doctrines and concepts that may have been lost or forgotten; nor even a matter of methods of spiritual practice that may need to be recovered from ancient sources. It is all that, to be sure, but what is lost in the whole of our modern life, including our understanding of religion, is something even more fundamental, without which religious ideas and practices lose their meaning and all too easily become the instruments of ignorance, fear, and hatred.
What is lost is the experience of oneself, just oneself—myself, the personal being who is here, now, living, breathing, yearning for meaning, for goodness; just this person here, now, squarely confronting one’s own existential weaknesses and pretensions while yet aware, however tentatively, of a higher current of life and identity calling to us from within ourselves.
This presence to oneself is the missing element in the whole of the life of Man, the intermediate state of consciousness between what we are meant to be and what we actually are. It is, perhaps, the one bridge that can lead us from our inhuman past toward the human future."

week of december 25th, 2022
aries: so how does it feel now that jupiter is back in your sign? for some this is simply a boost of good fortune and abundance. for others, the only downside is that tempers and impulses can be a little harder to control. or, maybe, a lot harder.
taurus: due to mercury retrograde kicking off this week is not a great time to initiate a new academic type of pursuit, eg an application for a university or an article for publication, or romantic/aesthetic undertakings. however if these things were already begun previously, it is a great time to review them and make corrections or adjustments, and it is ok to plan in advance for them if you mean to start them later!
gemini: this particular mercury retrograde is an extra important time to look at your taboos, your death and taxes themes, and any debts you owe or are owed. meanwhile emphatically do not accrue any new debts or loans, except maybe library books, and be a little stingier than usual about who you become any form of intimate with.
cancerians: the retrograde of mercury is in your seventh house so you can expect confusion and trickster energy in your committed relationships, closest friendships, or perhaps with any enemies you might have as the seventh house also rules openly known enemies! delays in these areas can favor you though, even if they pose some inconvenience.
leo: consider making adjustments to your day to day routines. are you working out regularly, eating well, communing with people you love and who are good for you? are there any ways you can make the mundane more holy?
virgo: it's an intensely earthy week centered largely on your fifth house and a mercury retrograde there. it's good to do things just for fun at this time, not with any plan for the outcome. it is regenerative to you and keeps you mindful of the transitory nature of all things.
libra: mercury retrograde affects your physical home or perhaps has something to do with your family of origin. maybe a skeleton finds its way out of the proverbial closet for example. relaxing cozy at home is auspicious, and any such skeletons can lead you to much generational healing.
scorpio: for you the most interesting part of this week, even with a mercury retrograde going, is likely to be when venus conjoins pluto at the end of capricorn. this is a benefic influence for you to be sure, possibly heralding some pleasant developments in romance or relationships.
sagittarius: now in capricorn season and coming out of the very darkest part of the year, with lots of earth energy, sagittarians are more likely than at perhaps any other time to feel a bit forlorn. invite fire into your life however you can, but also accept where you are at now as a part of your journey to wherever it is you are going.
capricorn: you're probably rarely fazed by any mercury retrograde. but since this one is in your sign, you may have some little setbacks this week. you're likely already prepared but if you're not, remember to take a deep breath and go slow; haste will make waste. don't be afraid to take a couple steps back now and then.
aquarius: hyper-earthy vibes may feel suffocating to you already, not to ease up during mercury's retrograde. go out of your way to gain some breathing room, but don't burn any bridges to get it. it all happens for the growth and benefit of your oldest/highest self.
pisces: you'll be less affected by this mercury retrograde than many of the people you know. and yet it's still a good idea to take a more introverted period; quiet time at home will serve you better than large gatherings in the next few weeks. even so, people from the past who resurface at this time, even if just temporarily, have some sort of auspicious gift for you.

“Are you serious?” you groaned at your phone, the latest email from your landlord open and glaring at you. “Never, but I might be for you,” Kishibe answered as you stepped into the elevator. You laughed, long used to the subtle flirtations the older man sent your way, sure that every young woman in the office got the same glitter in his eye and severed smile. You settled into the elevator beside him and groaned, looking down at your phone once more. “What’s got you looking so glum?” Kishibe asked, popping a breath mint and offering one to you, he must have just come from having a smoke outside.
“Rent,” you grumbled, “It’s gone up by ten percent, and with my student loan -” you groaned, taking the offered sweet and throwing it in your mouth. You wished you could go have a smoke, but Makima needed the files tucked under your arm. “This place not pay you enough?” Kishibe asked and you shook your head, “Not even close,” you sighed, “I’m only gonna start saving by the time I hit thirty,” you paused, “and that’s if I get a promotion at the end of this month.” “The one you and Himeno are fighting for?” Kishibe gave you an unreadable stare, You sighed “Yeah, and I feel bad because she needs it just as much,” you pinched the bridge of your nose. The elevator dinged as you got to the executive floor. “You got plans for lunch?” Kishibe asked, and you grumbled again, “No, I left my lunch at home,” you cussed, “I’ll have to get bread –“ “Good,” Kishibe interrupted you, “I’ll fetch you by your office at one,” he looked you over, “You got a jacket to go with that skirt?” You looked up at him and nodded, wide-eyed and slack-jawed. “Good, see you then,” and then he was gone, disappearing down the hallway to his office, leaving you in a fluster, cheeks hot as you stepped out of the lift. Why was he doing this?
...
“How’s it going?” Kishibe knocked and peeked inside your office on the lower floor. You looked at him, surrounded by files. “How does it look?” you grimaced. “You still up for lunch?” He asked, and you shrugged, “You didn’t give me much choice,” he tilted his head, “but I need the break,” you concluded, grabbing your bag and jacket from the back of your door “Let’s go, before Power discovers I’m gone,” You said, peering down the corridor. Kishibe scoffed and held the door open for you, his hand skimming the small of your back as you worked past. He took you across the street, watching as your eyes grew wider and wider as he punched in the highest number in the elevator across the street, taking you to the best restaurant in Tokyo. “Kishibe?” you looked at him, and he shrugged, “My treat,” he said, “I always wondered if the food here was good.” The foot was more than good. Your eyes fluttered close at your first bite, savouring the explosion of flavour over your tongue. “I take it's to your liking?” Kishibe chuckled across from you. You nodded eagerly, cheeks flushed at the taste. “Good,” he took a bite of his food, dark eyes never leaving yours as you sipped at your wine. He had convinced you to drink, citing the need to be slightly tipsy when you got back to the office and had to deal with your coworkers. “That Power,” you shook your head, “Yeah?” “It’s as if she and Denji share one brain cell,” you sighed, “and it’s always hungry,” he scoffed and you found yourself melting back into your seat. You looked out over the city, wondering if this was what it was like to be Kishibe and Makima – to dine at the top of buildings, eating the best food the country had to offer, spending more on a single meal than you spent in a month on groceries. “What are you thinking about, sweetheart?” Kishibe sipped at his whisky, startling you from your reverie. You gulped, and decided that honesty was the better policy, “Wondering if this is what it’s like to be you,” you admitted, “Or to have the means you do,” you clarified. “Would you like to find out?” his next question took you from left field. “Pardon?” Kishibe straightened a bit in his chair, sipping from his whisky before looking across at you. “As you know, I’m single,” oh you knew. And in the darkest parts of your heart, you were glad. You couldn’t imagine Kishibe with someone, his eyes following them when they moved, a gold band burdening his left hand. “Yes,” You narrowed your eyes. What was he suggesting? “It’s not what you’re thinking, doll,” his nicknames spilt so easily over his tongue, smooth and sweet like the wine on your tongue. “How do I put this..” He paused, “think of it as a contract,” he explained. “A contract entailing what?” you were ready to leave, gathering your purse together at any sign of anything untoward. “I need someone to live with me,” Kishibe said simply, “a roommate if you will. Lately,” he sighed, “I’ve been struggling by myself.” “How?” you could not imagine Kishibe struggling with anything, ever. He seemed so together, so straightforward, so confident. “Take a meal for example,” he pointed to the empty plates before you, “Can you imagine eating this alone?” You looked at him, at those unreadable eyes, dark and deep. “You’re lonely?” he shrugged. “You could say that,” he said casually as if he hadn’t admitted something so vulnerable about himself. “What do I do?” You asked, shifting back into your seat, settling, listening. “Live with me,” he said as if he were commenting on the weather, “share meals with me, have a drink with me occasionally,” he tilted his head. “And sex?” You decided to ask outright and he shook his head, “If I was asking you to be my sugar baby, I’d just ask you,” he said. And you accepted it. You looked at him, at his unfathomable eyes, at the relaxed way he lounged in his chair. He wasn’t lying, and you wouldn’t say you weren’t tempted. Having one less expense would make your life a hell of a lot easier. “I’ll think about it,” you finally said, surprised at the slow smile that stole across his severed face. “Good.”
...
Another email. Another godforsaken email. This time from the university, asking for this month’s payment on your student loan. You dropped your head to your desk, startling both Denji and Aki as they walked into your office. “What’s up, Boss?” Denji asked, immediately getting elbowed by Aki, “Have some respect, pest,” Aki hissed, before looking at you, “Are you okay?” You shrugged, “as okay as any person my age in debt would be,” and Aki nodded in understanding. From what you understood, he lived with Denji and Power, and you wondered why you hadn’t thought of getting a roommate sooner. Or becoming a roommate. You dealt with Denji and Aki as quickly and professionally as you could, missing the way Aki’s eyes lingered on your drawn face, how he hung back as you ushered them out of your office, telling them to get home and get some rest. You plopped back down behind your desk. Your email pinged again. You picked up the phone. “Kishibe, sir?” “Yeah,” came the gruff response. “I’m in.”

Friday! ❤️ "I like looking at you." for Peterpatter?
Luke whistled as he strolled through the museum, the beams of his flashlight catching on the displays as he passed. Throwing a cheeky salute to the camera, knowing it would make Alex sigh and roll his eyes back in the security office, but that's just how their friendship worked.
Luke took his time going through the floors, stopping to admire a new display of artwork from a local artist. He didn't quite get the sculpture made of skateboard pieces, but hey, to each their own right?
Luke never saw himself as a security guard for a living, but it was a pretty sweet gig, giving him lots of time to write his songs, with plenty of time off if he got a gig. Plus he got free admission to the museum, and that was pretty sweet in and of itself.
He always appreciated art, even if that wasn't where his talents lay. The paintings, the sculptures, the weird modern displays that involved scissors hanging from the ceiling, he loved it all.
But he always ended his rounds in the same place, Boy With Sunflower. It was his favourite piece in the entire museum, depicting a pale elfin creature with golden freckles and spring bright eyes. He was smiling impishly at the painter, surrounded by sunflowers, long fingers strumming on a lute that barely covered his modesty.
From the first time he saw it, it had captivated Luke. He's not exactly sure why, but he can never seem to pass the painting by without stopping and starring for at least a moment.
"Hey buddy," he says offhandedly. So he talks to the paintings every so often-it's a lonely job some nights, and Alex spends half of it texting his mysterious boyfriend, so Luke had to amuse himself somehow right? "How's it hanging?"
Luke sits on the bench and keeps his eyes trained on the sultry little smile of the man in the painting. "I'm doing alright. I finally landed the bridge of my new song, hoping to play it at open mice night at Eats and Beats next week. We'll see how it goes over. Maybe I'll sing it for you some day."
Luke sighs, leaning his head back. "I just wish... you could hear me, you know? I like looking at you well enough, but I wish you were a real life guy who could appreciate my music. Give me feedback, or hell, play with me. I think this song would be killer with a bass line and some drums."
He turns his face towards the painting once more, the moonlight almost making the eyes of the man glint, even if that's not possible. Luke gives him a wry grin, rubbing his hand over his face. "Ah well, wishes are dreams, and dreams are pretend. So science and reason win out in the end. Maybe once upon a time you were a real person, no way someone just dreamed you up. But you're just oil on canvas now. So reason says I'm talking to the air, and I should like... download Tinder or something. Find myself a real guy."
Luke eases himself off the bench, bracing the small of his back as he does. "Okay, I gotta mosey on back. Maybe get some jerky and a Red Bull. See you tomorrow?"
Of course there's no answer, but Luke still give the painting a two finger salute and walks back, not noticing the twinkling stars in the sky or the ever present glint of the moon. His head is still full of spring green eyes and that cheeky grin.
The next day Luke comes in before the museum closes to collect his paycheque before his shift starts. And maybe he takes the long way round so he can pass by Boy With Sunflower on his way.
Only that spot on the wall is blank.
He rushes to the office where Mr. Covington, the museum director is sitting, and it looks like he's practicing a card trick when Luke bursts in. "Where's Boy With Sunflower?" he asks, his voice almost frantic.
"Please do come in," Mr. Covington says, his voice full of derision. "And to answer your question, my dear boy, that painting was on loan to us from Silver Lake. It's headed back there now, with our thanks."
"Oh," Luke says, his voice small. "It was my favourite."
"It was a plebeian work, but I guess I could see it's allure," Mr. Covington says, then hands Luke his cheque. "Now, I have a new docent coming in tonight to learn the lay of the land. I trust you and Mr. Mercer won't scare him off."
"Of course not, we'll be as friendly as can be," Luke replies, even if that job sounds more like babysitting than anything.
"Perfect. Mr. Peters is waiting in the security office now, I trust he'll still be in my employ come the morning, so please do go welcome him." The dismissal is clear, so Luke nods and vamooses, heading to his locker for his uniform and then to the office. Alex won't be here for another half hour at least, so Luke supposes he gets first shift on nanny duty.
Only, when he opens the door to the security office, he stops in his tracks. Because the man in front of him is a living, breathing replica of Boy With Sunflower, right down to the golden freckles and playful smile. Luke's heart leaps to his throat, and he holds out a hand.
"Hi, my name is Luke."
"Reggie."

"It's Xbala"
"Does she have anya with her?"
"yes"
it was establish that anya was standing behind her but my initial mental image was FOR SURE Xbala carrying's anya under one arm dfghsadflhgsfgsld
I feel like spar is trying to hard to exude "man of the house" energy all the time and normally that would work except 80% of people in the podcast see him as a younger brother-ish-situation. But he did good with anya!!!!
I think they should give anya a knife and set her lose though, that's just my opinion
SOMETIMES YOU JUST GOTTA, SEE A LAWYER AND PICK EM IPAS DFA;LDSJFAS BY STUPID DOODLE IS CANNON NOW I HAVE DECIDED.

as a listener I had not considered this I would assume the poleaxe was just like. a socially acceptable and sexy addition to an outfit

i went back to school in my mid-20s and i feel like in some ways, i'm better off for it.
i think the biggest reason is that i got the novelty of living away from my parents and doing whatever the hell i wanted to mostly out of my system while not working on a degree program. fuck up under those circumstances, it's significantly less expensive when loans aren't involved.
second thing is that i have a better sense of what works for me. i knew i was good with numbers when i was done with high school, but it wasn't something i considered because i was thinking "i dont want to make designs for bridges, i want to ~~help people~~" when i was that young. problem is, with the disciplines concerning stuff like that, there's only so much you can do on your own. that would have really deeply fucked with me.
the major downside is the persistent irritation of feeling like you should be further in life than you are at this point. it sounds trivial, but it still isn't fun.
eh. i won't tell you how to live your life. but i do want to point out that there are advantages to getting around to this stuff later. it's not a race, and there's no reason to see it that way. margaret atwood was so full of shit when she said "potential has a shelf life" – it only does if you let it.

How a Mortgage Brokerage Can Help You Secure the Ideal Mortgage
Tumblr media Tumblr media
When it comes to obtaining a mortgage, there are various crucial steps involved, from securing a favourable interest rate and minimizing fees to completing the application process and closing the loan promptly. For individuals, especially first-time homebuyers, seeking guidance from a mortgage broker can prove to be a prudent decision. Our team at Cashin Mortgages possesses the essential expertise and in-depth knowledge required to navigate the ever-changing market landscape, ensuring a seamless and hassle-free mortgage experience for you.
What is a Mortgage Broker?
Imagine you're on a quest to find the perfect mortgage for your dream home. A mortgage broker is like a bridge, connecting you to various lenders and helping you navigate the mortgage process smoothly. Instead of visiting each lender individually, your broker does the legwork for you, presenting you with a range of mortgage choices.  With their deep knowledge of the mortgage market, mortgage brokers are like seasoned guides who know all the ins and outs of the industry. They keep up with the latest trends, regulations, and lender policies, and they're eager to share their expertise with you. From understanding your financial goals to explaining complex terms, they provide valuable guidance tailored to your unique situation.
Ways Mortgage Brokerage Can Help You
Here are some key ways a mortgage brokerage can assist you: Extensive Market Access - Mortgage Brokers have access to a wide network of lenders, including traditional banks, credit unions, and specialized lenders. This access enables them to explore multiple options and compare offerings from different lenders. By presenting you with a range of choices, they increase your chances of finding a mortgage with favourable terms such as competitive interest rates, flexible repayment options, and beneficial loan features.Negotiation Expertise - Mortgage brokers are competent negotiators who can advocate on your behalf. They have in-depth knowledge of the mortgage industry and understand the intricacies of lender policies and practices. This positions them to negotiate with lenders to secure the most favourable terms for your mortgage. They can work on obtaining lower interest rates, reducing or eliminating certain fees, and negotiating other beneficial terms to save you money in the long run. Personalized Mortgage Solutions - Mortgage brokers recognize that everyone's financial situation is unique. They take the time to assess your specific needs, financial goals, and future plans. With this information, they can tailor mortgage solutions that align with your requirements. Whether you have a unique employment situation, a lower credit score, or require a specialized loan program, a mortgage broker can find lenders who are more likely to work with you and offer favourable terms.  Guidance and Expert Advice - Mortgage brokers are experts in the mortgage process and can provide you with valuable guidance every step of the way. They can help you understand complex mortgage terms and conditions, explain the pros and cons of different loan options, and offer insights into the implications of your choices. Their expertise ensures that you make informed decisions and select a mortgage that suits your long-term financial goals. Streamlined Application Process - Applying for a mortgage involves a considerable amount of paperwork and documentation. Mortgage brokers simplify this process for you by gathering all the necessary information and ensuring that your application is complete and accurate. They have a thorough understanding of lender requirements and can guide you through the application process, reducing the chances of errors or delays. This increases the likelihood of your mortgage application being approved and helps you secure favorable terms in a timely manner.Ongoing Support - Even after you secure a mortgage, a mortgage brokerage can continue to provide support. They can assist you in understanding the terms of your mortgage agreement, explain prepayment options, and provide advice on refinancing opportunities in the future. If you have any questions or concerns about your mortgage, they are available to address them and offer guidance.
How much does a Mortgage Broker cost?
Mortgage brokers are typically compensated through commissions paid by lenders. This means that, as a borrower, you generally do not directly pay the mortgage broker for their services. Instead, the broker receives a commission from the lender once your mortgage is finalized. The commission paid to the broker is usually a percentage of the mortgage amount. The exact percentage can vary depending on factors such as the lender, the type of mortgage, and the specific agreement between the broker and the lender. The commission can range from 0.50% to 1.20% or more of the mortgage amount. Securing a mortgage can be a daunting task, but with Cashin Mortgages, the process becomes much more manageable. Our dedicated team of professionals is here to guide you through every step, leveraging our expertise, industry connections, and personalized approach to help you achieve your mortgage goals. Ready to make your mortgage experience a smooth and successful one? Contact Cashin Mortgages today and let's get started on finding the perfect mortgage solution for you! WARNING: will probably ruin your childhood, has a wall of text, mention of violence, gang violence mention, includes the plot of Oliver & Co., this is my ramble
Please note that I love this movie and it’s one of my favorites, I simply had a what-if thinking spiral
so I was watching Oliver & Co. and I thought of them as humans (as one does) but when I tried to rewrite the story with the animals as humans?
It got so much darker
Like, sure we like the idea of it and seeing what we think they’d look like as humans is super cool, but think about it-
It’s a story of an orphan that gets lost on the streets of NYC in the 80s, and he’s very hungry. So he searches for food, but the guy doesn’t give him any. An ADULT MAN comes along and says he’ll help get the food, it works, but the man runs off with the food they got together. Naturally the boy chases after him to get the food back- all the way to where the man is staying with his (OTHER ADULT) friends to share the food with some made up story. The boy makes his presence known, but is threatened by everyone but the man earlier (sure they think he’s from another gang but hE IS A KID). The man explains and they ease up, even going as far as excepting him into the ‘family’ (gang. They even say they’re a gang in the film). Another (ADULT) man shows up and it’s found out they’re in BIG DEBT with a mafia(?) boss. The mobster shows up with his two bodyguards that threaten the ‘family’ while Mr Scrungly (that’s what I’m gonna call debt man) talks with scary loan shark guy. Blah blah, life is threatened, 3 days to get the money, blah blah blah- Mr Scrungly comes back after scary boss guy leaves, learns about the new kid, and welcomes him warmly. NEXT DAY! They take the new kid and show him the ropes of their job (steal money via exploitation). As this is going on, the little boy makes friends with a little girl that’s in the car and he ends up going home with her (as the gang is left behind after being found out, but they think the boy was kidnapped due to them being found out). Little boy and little girl bond by making the kitchen a disaster for one very unhealthy snack, butler calls parents, little boy gets to stay! Meanwhile the resident adult female (what would she be in human AU? An aunt, cousin? Let’s go with aunt that leaches off her sibling’s wealth) is UNHAPPY over the fact a new child from the streets is now in ‘her’ house. Oh also she flirts with every man and plays with their hearts blah blah blah that musical number where birds drooled over a poodle. Anyways, she doesn’t like the fact the boy is here and is jealous of the two children practicing piano and playing. Later when the ‘rescue mission’ commences she helps the group KIDNAP. OLIVER. They take him back home and are shocked to find that! Oh wow!! He liked it there at the kind rich kid’s house where he didn’t have to worry about food?! How could he!! This is a betrayal! Let’s KICK THE CHILD OUT OF OUR HOME!!! Then Mr Scrungly comes back, hugging the kid for comfort and is very sad he didn’t get money cause now he’ll probably DIE. He sees that hey! New kid has new and expensive looking accessories! Instead of selling those accessories, what if we RANSOM HIM?!? So they do, but when rich girl comes with fancy lady and a piggy bank, Mr Scrungly realizes that these are children. This is very wrong and we should not do this. But it’s too late and the girl gets kidnapped by evil loan shark man. Blah blah rescue mission: yeeting the boy through a window is a great idea, huh? Then they sneak in and are saving the girl, yay! LOAN SHARK PULLS OUT A GUN! Mr Scrungly appears, yay! They hightail it outta there on the very cheap scooter/moped thing and it’s a car chase through NYC at night- somehow they go through the subway tracks, fight scenes commence, the two bodyguards are killed, they end up on a bridge, the boy and the man are THROWN by the loan shark, the gang maneuvers so they aren’t hit by a train, loan shark was distracted by last minute and gets hit by the train and DIES. Everyone goes to the side so they aren’t killed and check on the boy and man. Boy looks d e a d. Man is sad. Everyone is sad cause they think he’s dead but nO WAIT HES ALIVE! Blah blah victory- timeskip to the little girl’s birthday and oh wow she’s let all these homeless people in her house for her birthday and her butler and aunt(?) are okay with it! But it’s okay cause they’re friends now :)! Her parents definitely won’t mind! ‘sides, they all leave once Mr Scrungly loses a bet to the butler lmao

Crossing the Bridge
Somewhere Else Under the King
In this entry, Trilby Is Definitely Not Involved In A Robbery, demonstrates the use of his grolly, and gets drafted into cooking dinner:
It all comes back to him in easy calculation and muscle memory.
Trilby can see the point of entry. He can feel the comforting weight of his grolly in gloved hands. He hears the satisfying whiz of the grolly’s line shooting up, the hook secure. The climb up the side of the building. The muffled shatter of the window chosen for the job. The pull up into the ventilation system to find the unseen paths. The infiltration into the compound is complete. Now it’s time for the second part of the game.
Snip the right wire, the security system goes offline. Drop down. Take the lockpick tucked away into the tie. Click, click, click, the case is open. Apron, mask, machete. He can feel the fabric of the mask on a wide smile. The final touch, Trilby’s calling card set in the otherwise empty display.
Up and out. Alarms back online. The glimpse of a figure in a suit and hat before a smoke bomb hides the rest of the retreat.
John DeFoe’s artefacts have been stolen from the Order of the Blessed Agonies.
-
“I’m out,” Trilby says, holding up his empty hands.
Jon lets his cards drop from his hand. “You were right: this was less infuriating with the pain meds.”
Trilby picks up the cards and shuffles. “Maybe we should wait until you start your new job. That’s this week, right?”
“Technically, I had my first day today,” Jon answers. “Though it was more of a half-day. Speaking of work, Martin mentioned you recently went on a business trip?”
“Yeah, can’t seem to get away from them,” Trilby says. “This one was more of a teamwork building exercise with some coworkers.”
Jon laughs and says, “We couldn’t get away from HR in that line of work, either.”
“Talk about keeping up appearances.” Trilby sets the cards down for Jon to cut. “When does a situation like that get to the point of needing HR?” He pauses a moment when he takes the cards back and asks, “You don’t think the Order of the Blessed Agonies has HR, do you?”
“From everything Martin and I understand about them, sounds like that would defeat their purpose.”
“Speaking of Martin, when does he get off work? I wanted to borrow the book Lovelace loaned him,” Trilby says as he rests his hand on his stack of cards.
“It varies,” Jon answers. “But I told him I’d be at yours today. We can see if he’s home after this hand?”
Trilby nods in agreement. “Ready?”
But before they could start, there’s a knock at the door.
“Did Martin say he’d come by here?” Trilby asks as he gets up and goes to answer.
“I don’t think so,” Jon answers, turning in his chair to watch.
Trilby opens the door to find two police constables. His voice is even and firm as he asks, “Can I help you?”
“Yeah,” the bigger of the two answers. “Got a call about a robbery at a compound owned by the Friends of Jack Frehorn. An eyewitness said the culprit was wearing a three-piece suit, a mask-” The constable takes their baton and uses it to tilt the brim of Trilby’s hat. “-and a trilby. Not to mention a familiar calling card was found at the scene. Wanted to check up on you.”
“I see,” Trilby says. He then tilts his head towards Jon. “And as you can see, I have a guest right now.”
“Right,” the other constable says, following Trilby’s gesture and making eye contact with Jon. “How long have you been here?”
“Since about 12:15,” Jon answers, standing up. “Trilby’s been here as long as I have.”
The two constables pause, working out the timeline in their heads. Judging by their frowns, it’s not adding up the way they want.
“Do you have your grolly with you?” the first constable asks.
“Yes,” Trilby answers, picking his umbrella up from its spot by the door.
“I want to see you use it,” the second constable commands. “I want proof that it’s not just an umbrella while you’ve lent the real thing to an accomplice.”
“An accomplice? Really?” Trilby asks, setting his umbrella on his shoulders. “Even if I thought going back to that kind of work was viable, what makes you think I’d take on an accomplice now when I’ve always worked alone?”
“Still want to see it,” the constable insists.
“Fine, but not inside. I don’t want to break anything.” He looks over his shoulder to Jon and asks, “Care to join us for the demonstration?”
“What exactly will I be seeing?” Jon asks, though he approaches to join the others at the door.
Trilby gives him a half-smirk and goes, “What’s the fun in telling when you’re about to see anyway?”
Jon makes a small huff but follows anyway.
The four make their way outside the building, and Trilby inspects a nearby tree that doesn’t seem to have any animals in it. He nods in satisfaction, steps back, and aims his umbrella towards the branches.
“The grappling brolly,” he says before pulling a trigger near the crook.
The end of the umbrella splits into four prongs and shoots up into the tree, rope trailing behind and wrapping around a branch. He checks that the hook isn’t caught then pulls the trigger again, retracting the rope.
“Satisfied that it’s the real thing?” Trilby asks the constables.
The two constables grumble in response before a call comes in on their radio. One of them picks up to answer with, “Yeah, we’ve actually got Trilby right now, but we’re still working on what happened.”
“What are you talking about?” the voice on the radio asks. “Trilby was just spotted entering a government office with the stolen goods!”
Trilby rests his grolly on his shoulders again. “Considering I’m still right here, it sounds like you’re dealing with a copycat burglar. Why don’t you go see what that’s about?”
The two constables glower at Trilby, the bigger one mutters, “Smartass…” and they end up returning to their car.
Once they’re gone, Jon asks, “What the hell was all that?!”
Trilby sighs, and it’s here Jon notices his breath has gone shaky. “A pain in the ass, that’s what.”
Jon decides not to press that part of it. Instead, he goes, “So. Cat burglar.”
Trilby smiles. “I usually preferred to think of myself as a gentleman thief. But when you see an opening.”
Jon huffs a small laugh. “Thought you didn’t like puns.”
“Everyone’s immune to their own,” Trilby says. He turns to enter the building again and goes, “So, what do you think Jim will write up for this one?”
Jon laughs louder this time as he moves to follow. “God, I have no idea. Secret twin? Doppelgänger? Mad scientist cloning plot?”
Trilby takes his turn to laugh. “Considering the story he wrote up for Martin, that sounds about right.”
Jon takes the lead and asks, “Should we go see if Martin’s home?”
Trilby nods and goes, “In a moment. I’ll put the grolly away. Won’t need any of its functions at your flat.”
Jon stops in his tracks a second before picking back up and going, “Wait, functions? Plural?”
“I mean, I didn’t want to demonstrate the taser in front of the cops if they weren’t going to ask about it,” Trilby says. “And I trust you already know what a working umbrella looks like.”
“It’s actually an umbrella, too?” Jon asks over his mind tucking the taser information in with the times he’s seen Trilby carry the grolly to work rain or shine.
“Yes. Wouldn’t it be more ridiculous at this point if it wasn’t?”
-
Martin gets two cups out as soon as he hears Jon at the door. What perfect timing, as the kettle’s about to whistle.
“Welcome home, love,” he calls when he hears the door open.
“Hello, love,” Jon calls back from the door. “I’ve brought Trilby.”
“Hello, Martin,” Trilby calls, his voice moving towards the sofa.
Martin automatically gets another cup and waits for Jon to join him in the kitchen. He instinctively leans down to meet Jon, who leans up for a quick greeting kiss.
“Is Trilby here on business?” Martin quietly asks.
“No,” Jon whispers back. “I mean, he’d like to borrow the book from Jackson, but that’s not it. The police were just at his flat.”
Martin frowns. “Are you two all right?” he asks, still whispering.
Jon shrugs and goes, “Mostly? It’s not the worst I’ve seen Trilby. They didn’t seem to care about me, so there’s that.”
Martin fully turns to face Jon and opens his arms to him. Jon immediately accepts the offered embrace, and Martin pulls him close. He feels Jon shiver, and he rubs his back a little with a soothing, “Hey, it’s all right. That’s over now.” He gives Jon a kiss on the top of his head. “Why don’t you go sit? I’ll bring your tea in a moment.”
“I can get the book,” Jon tells him.
“Do you want to think about that now?” Martin asks.
“No, but actually fetching the book is something to do.”
Martin nods at this as Jon pulls out of the hug. “It’s in the bedroom,” he says.
They haven’t got much yet, but Jon still takes his time looking for it. The tea is done, and Martin brings a cup to Trilby.
Trilby starts at Martin setting the cup down before going, “Sorry.”
Martin says, “Nah, I’m sorry for startling you. Um, didn’t know how you take your tea, so I left some space for you to fix it up in the kitchen if you’d like.”
“You didn’t have to,” Trilby says. “Make me tea, I mean.”
Martin quietly huffs. Like Trilby’s not sitting on the sofa after Jon let him in. He then goes, “Yeah. I did.”
“Oh.” Trilby picks up the cup. And then, as an afterthought, “Thank you.” He takes a sip, opens his mouth to say something, then stops and takes another sip. He hums and goes, “Been a while since I had some good tea.”
Martin gives him a wry smile. “How’d that happen?”
“Been busy,” Trilby answers.
Martin returns to the kitchen and retrieves his and Jon’s tea. “That sounds familiar.”
Trilby frowns and furrows his brows just as Jon comes back with the book.
“Ah, I haven’t actually checked if I could loan that out,” Martin says as he hands Jon his cup. “Do you want me to call my boss about it now? Or just ask forgiveness later?”
“He’s already loaned me one book,” Trilby says. “I don’t see why he’d object to me borrowing this one, especially if he expects me to understand any of it. Unless you two would like to help fill in some gaps?”
“You can take the book,” Martin says. “Really rather not talk too much about it, if it’s alright with you.”
“Can’t blame you on that. I wouldn’t either, only...” Trilby trails off.
“Work?” Jon finishes, holding the book out to him.
Trilby takes it and says, “Work.”
There’s an ache in the silence that follows, an unusual empathy. It’s too still, too confining, and too much like being back in the archives. And Martin is sick of it, not just for Jon and himself but now Trilby, too. Maybe he hadn’t seen it on Trilby before, couldn’t see it because technically every time they met before this was in the context of Trilby’s job, but he can feel that inability to get away from his work now.
Martin cuts through the silence with, “So, what are we making for dinner?”
Jon asks, “Dinner?” at the same time Trilby asks, “We’re all making it?”
“It’s a good time to start thinking about it if we’re cooking,” Martin tells them. “Pretty sure I saw some vegetables in the fridge. Soup agreeable to everyone?”
Jon brightens up just a bit and goes, “Ah, yes. I get it.” Then he turns directly to Trilby and goes, “Come on, we’re being drafted.”
“Drafted? Into cooking?” Trilby asks.
“Was there something else you wanted to do?” Jon asks in return as he goes to join Martin in the kitchen. “I won’t really object if you just want to crash on the sofa, but are you going to end up reading Jackson’s book now if you do?”
Trilby takes his point and gets up. “Okay, what am I doing, then?”
“Looks like it’ll mostly be chopping vegetables,” Martin says as he pulls ingredients out of the fridge. He looks to Jon with a small, knowing smile and asks, “Hey Jon, do you think you could make that same pan fried bread that you did when we were staying at Daisy’s?”
“Ha!” Jon claps a hand over his mouth and bends over a moment. “Yeah, I can do that.”
Martin smiles a bit wider, both at Jon’s reaction and how it flies over Trilby’s head. And as the three work and get into a rhythm, he lets himself remember the peace of the safehouse. How Jon had made that bread the morning he told Martin he loved him. How this feels so permanent in comparison, different layers of permanent. And how the permanence that was once frightening right now feels freeing, even exciting, because this could be their lives now. The two of them together, a friend over- Is Trilby a friend? Maybe a sort-of friend, but it’s a start.- a friend over to help them make dinner.
