Portal to My Heart (Book 2) Chapter Thirteen
Chapter Thirteen: In the Void
(Y/N) opened her eyes and looked around urgently. Loki was awaking next to her. She reached out for him.
            “Loki…”
            “(Y/N)…”
They were filled with relief at the realization that they were still with each other. Still, they might be in Hell (neither thought they were making it to Heaven).
            “Are we…dead?” breathed (Y/N).
“Not yet,” said an unfamiliar voice. “But you will be unless you come with us.”
(Y/N) and Loki sat up in alarm. An alligator, teenage boy, old man, and muscular man, all sporting gold, green, and black outfits, stood in front of them. Lokis. The alligator blinked at them, the teenager looked them up and down judgmentally, the muscular man gazed at them condescendingly, and the old man watched them with a strange look. The pair scrambled to their feet, on guard.
“What is this place? Where are we? Who are you?” demanded Loki.
“This is the Void.” Classic Loki pointed to the glowing purple cloud approaching them. “That’s Alioth. And we’re his lunch. Come on.”
An animalistic face emerged from the cloud and bellowed.
“Shit, don’t have to tell me twice!” exclaimed (Y/N).
Loki nodded in agreement, and however wary of the Variants they were, they followed them. Classic Loki led the way over the hills and fields, never once stopping.
“I suggest we take a breather so I can ask several thousand questions,” said Loki.
“Got to keep moving so we don’t die,” said Classic Loki. “We don’t have anyone who can teleport us.”
Loki nodded at (Y/N). “She can.”
“Accidentally, and only myself! So unless you want me to leave you here, no way,” said (Y/N).
“She can’t,” said the old man. “It takes time to control teleportation.”
Loki huffed. “Fine, fine, but do we have any plan?”
            “Don’t die,” said Teen Loki.
            “Okay, but beyond that?”
            “Don’t die.”
“That’s just a general demand of living!” Loki sighed in exasperation. “If you’re Lokis, you should always have—.” The Lokis ignored him. He groaned.
“At least tell us what this place is and what that thing was,” said (Y/N). They said nothing. Her eyebrow twitched. Lokis. “Alright! Someone tell me what the hell is going on! It has been a very long few days…months? Goddamn it I don’t even know when New York was! I just got pruned and thought I fucking died and now I’m surrounded by Lokis! Tell me what the fuck is going on!”
“She’s brave,” commented Boastful Loki. Classic Loki nodded.
“Shut up, you’ll signal Alioth,” said Teen Loki.
(Y/N)’s eye twitched, and Loki grabbed her before she could try to kill anyone.
Classic Loki looked at Teen Loki. “We were the same way when we arrived.”
“Fine.” Teen Loki rolled his eyes. “This is the place where the TVA dumps its rubbish, everything they prune,” said Teen Loki. “And Alioth…he ensures none of it ever returns.”
“It’s a living tempest that consumes matter and energy,” said Boastful Loki. “They send entire branched realities here that are devoured instant—”
“We’re in a shark tank.” Classic Loki cut to the chase. “Alioth is the shark.”
            Alligator Loki croaked.
“Oh, there’s no such thing as an alligator tank,” said Classic Loki. “Besides, it’s a better metaphor.” He nodded to the alligator. “He’s a bit sensitive.”
“Hang on, that thing’s a Loki too?” said Loki.
            “Oh, yes,” said Classic Loki.
“I thought he’d be a snake if he was an animal,” commented (Y/N).
“Why are there so many of you?” asked Loki.
“Because Lokis survive. That’s just what we do,” said Classic Loki.
“Great, so how do we escape?” said Loki.
“We don’t,” said Classic Loki harshly. “All of us were arrested by the TVA and pruned, just like you two. And just like you two, we all stood around making bad plans that went nowhere.”
“But we could use a Tempad!”
“Oh, the one thing that could get us out of here, yes,” said Boastful Loki. “They’re all over the place, right guys?” His fellow Lokis laughed.
I kind of miss there being only one Loki. This is insufferable, thought (Y/N).
“Fine, what about causing a Nexus Event?” asked Loki.
“The TVA doesn’t care what happens here,” said Boastful Loki as if it was obvious.
“There has to be something we can do,” said (Y/N).
“There is: survive,” said Classic Loki. “That’s all there is, all there ever was.”
“We’re done talking. Let’s go,” said Teen Loki. “Just do what you want.” He turned and hiked away with his associates following.
(Y/N) and Loki looked at each other.
“They know this place better than us,” admitted (Y/N).
            Loki sighed. “Alright, alright.”
They caught up and began walking with the Lokis again.
“Why do you let the boy command you?” asked Loki.
“You’ll do well to respect the boy,” said Classic Loki. “This is his kingdom.”
“Right…What was your Nexus Event, your majesty?” asked Loki sarcastically.
“I killed Thor,” said Teen Loki scathingly.
            Christ, that’s dark, thought (Y/N).
Nothing else was said during the rest of the hike. They eventually came upon and hill, and Classic Loki opened a hatch with a wave of his hand. They all descended into what was the Lokis’ base. Loki made sure he went down first in case the Lokis tried anything. He knew better than anyone how backstabbing Lokis could be.
“So why do you want to return to the TVA so badly, anyway?” asked Classic Loki. “You leave your glorious purpose there?”
“Our friend is there,” said (Y/N) absently. She looked over the base. The decorations were rather eclectic, and a throne with candy canes stood in the middle with bowling pins around the base. Yeah, this is definitely what happens when four Lokis decorate together.
l
(Y/N) sat with a goblet of grape juice in her hand next to Loki. Would have been nice of the TVA to prune a branch with a bar in it…Then I wouldn’t have to listen to that guy go on and on about his “triumphs.” Knowing Lokis, he’s probably lying about everything.
“So, after I vanquished Captain America and Iron Man, I claimed my prize, all six infinity stones and a queen,” said Boastful Loki proudly.
            Alligator Loki growled.
“That’s alligator for growling and saying ‘liar’ at the same time,” translated Classic Loki.
“At least my Nexus Event wasn’t eating the wrong neighbor’s cat,” said Boastful Loki sullenly.
            Alligator Loki snarled.
“He says that at least he didn’t pine over someone who hated him,” said Classic Loki.
“Why you—!” Boastful Loki lunged for Alligator Loki, who bit him in turn.
Classic Loki grabbed onto Alligator Loki while Loki and (Y/N) pulled Boastful Loki away. Teen Loki just laughed.
            This is insanity, thought (Y/N).
“Tell them your story, Loki,” said Teen Loki.
“Me?” asked Classic Loki. “Nobody wants to hear about that.”
            “I would, actually,” said (Y/N).
“Me too,” said Loki. “It’s just I’ve been wondering because I’m…Well, we’re supposed to die, right? Thanos kills us…” His eyes drifted to (Y/N) “and (Y/N)—” She raised her glass in acknowledgement “after Ragnarok.”
“Thanos?” Classic Loki sat forward and sighed. “In my timeline…everything proceeded correctly, my entire life, until Thanos attacked our ship. After…my (Y/N) jumped through the portal to save me, well, take no offense my fellow Lokis, but daggers are worthless in the face of Loki sorcery. They stunt our magic potential.”
“But they look awesome,” said Boastful Loki.
“Oh, yes. Especially when they clatter to the ground right before your neck is snapped,” said Classic Loki.
“What did you do?” asked (Y/N).
“Before my (Y/N) was stabbed, I cast a projection so real that the Mad Titan believed she did die. I then used it to make him believe I also fought and died,” said Classic Loki. “Then I hid us as inanimate debris.”
“I bet (Y/N) tried to get out and fight,” remarked Boastful Loki. He sighed. “She was never one to give up.” Classic Loki chuckled and nodded.
“It is so weird to hear about alternate versions of me,” said (Y/N), sitting back.
Loki leaned forward and looked at Classic Loki. “What happened after?”
“We drifted into space. Away from Thor, away from everything,” said Classic Loki. “Thought about the universe and my place in it, and it occurred to me that everywhere I went, only pain followed. So I removed myself from the equation, landed on a remote planet and stayed there. Stayed there for a long, long time.” He sullenly took a drink of grape juice.
“And what happened to (Y/N)?” asked (Y/N).
“She wanted to run, to fight…And I couldn’t stop her.” He looked down. “She summoned a portal and disappeared into it. I never saw her again.”
            “Did the TVA find her?”
“I don’t know, said Classic Loki sadly.
“How did the TVA find you?” asked Loki, swallowing the lump in his throat at the idea of letting (Y/N) go off into danger.
“It took me some time, but I tried to leave. To find (Y/N) again. But as soon as I took the first steps towards leaving this planet, the TVA arrived. Because we, my friends, have but one part to play, the God of Outcasts. Nothing more,” spat Classic Loki.
Loki frowned and put his goblet down decidedly. “I’m going.” He stood up.
“Going where?” demanded Boastful Loki, getting up with Classic Loki.
“Out of this place, out of the Void, back to the TVA, said Loki. He looked at (Y/N) and held out a hand. “Are you coming with me?”
She downed her drink, grinned, and took it. “Wouldn’t have it any other way.”
Loki gazed at his Variants and tightened his grip of her hand, almost to reassure himself she was sticking by him. “We’re as good at escaping as we are at survive. That gives us a decent chance.”
“You don’t do either, you’ll be murdered,” sighed Classic Loki.
“Then we die,” said (Y/N), shrugging.
“That’s our destiny to begin with,” said Loki.
“You’re different,” piped up Teen Loki. “Why?”
“No, I’m not, you see. I’m the same as all of you. But—” Loki pointed at (Y/N) “—I have her. And have you ever met a woman Variant of us? They’re what makes me ‘different.’ ” (Y/N) smiled at his words, her cheeks dusting pink. “We’re going back to Sylvie, and then we can take down the TVA together.” He straightened. “Now, you said Alioth is what keeps us here. You said it’s a living thing, like a shark. Well, if it lives, it dies.”
“I like this idea,” said (Y/N).
Loki grinned at her. “We’re going to kill a shark.”
The other Lokis began laughing. “No way, you guys are crazy.”
Annoyed, Loki and (Y/N) turned away.
“Monsters,” muttered Loki as he walked to the ladder.
(Y/N) squeezed his hand before stepping onto the ladder. “You’re better than all of them.”
Loki swallowed as a light pink tint covered his cheeks. “Thank you.”
(Y/N) smiled before climbing upwards. She pushed the hatch open and looked up into the cloudy sky. Her vision was suddenly obscured as a group of people looked down at her. Eyes widening, (Y/N) gazed in awe at the well-dressed Loki in front of her, one who looked almost exactly like her Loki.
He leaned down, giving her a view of the “Loki for President” pin her wore, and smirked. “Well, well, well. It’s been far too long without seeing your pretty face, (Y/N).”
            Shit.

A Crown of Frost (Snippets)
Let’s be clear, this is the real reason I’m back on this site. I have begun chaos and I refuse to post it yet, so instead I must scream into a void as I shake everything around me violently.
This idea has been burning in my head for a little bit and I am utterly obsessed with Jotun Loki at the moment (which is the whole point of The Frozen Branch series). So what did I do? I decided to play a little “Everyone Loves Loki!” ... Sort of.
Let’s be honest, I’ve been around reading fic absently for years before I even made an Ao3 account. At the time I looked at my past writings and went “oh dear god, no, I should never write fanfiction again” so that took a good five-ish years to get over. But I’ve seen a lot of Loki’s changes through fandom, particularly with regards to ships, and man! I love ships! I love all the ships! So many ships!!
I haven’t even decided how this one will end, frankly. But I have a couple little snippets from a couple of different chapters to share, since I’m planning to break it down... sort of by ship.
Not all of the ships involved have snippets for sharing, yet, so this isn’t all there is to expect. ❤
Below the cut for snippets!
Intro Snippet:
On the branch of frost was born the snowflake of Jotunheim, with skin the colour of Midgard's daylight skies and hair darker than the coals of Muspelheim.
From a realm known for its unforgiving climate and brutal people emerged whispers of a beauty unrivalled in all the realms - and naturally, such a thing was coveted. For many years the whispers grew, truths and fictions weaving into a tapestry of an idea.
So when it was announced that the heir to the throne of Jotunheim - the very tapestry woven into the minds of the nine realms - would be meeting with potential suitors from across the realms, it was no surprise to find each realm well represented.
(A/N: This fic, as you may have noticed, began with intentions of being a fairytale. And... then I added Darcy and it went off the rails really quickly. I love you, Darcy.)
Darcy and the Giant Snippet:
"Alright, lay it on me. What are you looking for here? There's some stuff going on, and you kinda called three of them out about not loving you or something so… what's the political situation?"
"Thor is the biggest political situation." Loptr sipped their drink, looking thoughtfully at it.
"Oh yeah, big guy, gorgeous hair? Oh who am I kidding, everyone has gorgeous hair here…"
“You would consider Thor to be… big?” Loptr responded with clear confusion.
“Right, talking to a giant. Duh.”
(AN: When you’re the human in a land of non-humans, things get kind of weird. And Darcy didn’t bring a shovel to this snowy world.)
Thor’s Grand Proposal Snippet:
“I meant what I said before. I want peace between our people, Your Highness. We’ve been in conflict as long as both of us have been alive. For the sake of our people, and our children.”
“That isn’t what I asked,” Loptr chuckled, their lips quirking upwards. “I understand what you want from marriage. But what do you want from me, Prince Thor? And what do you require from a spouse?”
“Oh, yes of course!” Sitting back as food was placed in front of him, Thor rubbed at his leg under the table briefly in an attempt to reorient himself. “I require a bride if only to mother children - though, I believe-”
Before he could even finish speaking, the figure across the table shifted some in shape, chest filling out and a somewhat more feminine curl of hair managing to fall over her shoulders.
"Yes, I do believe I can fulfil that purpose just fine."
(A/N: I love Thor a lot, and Thorki is about as classic as Loki ships get! But oh gosh, I’m not used to writing this big softie. I’m getting some practice in elsewhere, and hopefully this whole segment will tighten up better!)
Tony’s Adventures in Bartending Snippet:
“You can just call me Tony. Anthony is a little overly formal, don’t you think?”
“Says the one who keeps calling me ‘Your Highness’.”
He tilted his head at the other before Loptr snagged his drink right out from under him, taking a sip. He sat up, giving the heir a surprised look, before smirking.
“Okay. Point. Am I getting that glass back?”
“No. You were going to bartend for me, Tony. And you may call me Loki when we are alone.”
Well, that was another surprise. Shrugging, he got to his feet and made his way around the bar, bowing teasingly.
“As you wish, Loki.”
(A/N: Hello, I love them friends. Any time Loki and Tony over in Collared start hurting my heart, I pop back over to this segment because this is the energy I love from these two. I feast.)
The Secrets Stephen Seeks Snippet:
"You seek a spouse to fill a void in your soul, Stephen?"
"A spouse?" Stephen leaned forward in his seat to look at Loptr, watching them intently. "I didn't come seeking a spouse. I came seeking you, Loki."
Loptr looked slightly taken aback by that and the sorcerer couldn't help but smile softly.
"You came seeking the rumours," Loptr responded, collecting themself again.
"Mmm, yes. But not the rumours of Loptr. As you've pointed out so astutely, I seek knowledge in all things. What need do I have for beauty and power?"
(A/N: Oh. Yeah. The ship that inspired me to finally pick up an Ao3 account and WRITE. Working on both IronFrost and StrangeFrost separately in one fic has been fun, it feels like it really breaks down what I love about IronStrangeFrost!
But this is all I’ve got for you for blips for now. Back to trying to finish up the next chapter of Collared, no more procrastinating... probably.)

Tumblr media
Mobius started to run when he saw the figure lying on the ground in the distance.
He shouted, "Thor, Thor! Come here! I think I found him! Oh my goodness he really looks like he's in bad shape!"
Mobius fell to his knees next to the lying body. He brushed his hand through his hair that was stuck to his forehead from sweat.
"Are you sure it's him? My brother? My... Loki?"
Thor had just landed and dropped to his knees beside Mobius before continuing, the voice full of panic, "Mobius... is he..."
Mobius, a lump in his throat, bent down, gently removed the horned helmet and rested his cheek against the face of the man lying on the ground to feel his breath.
He breathed a small sigh of relief, "No. No, he's still breathing."
Thor gently grasped his brother's hand, a hand thinner and a little more wrinkled than he remembered, and called softly, "Loki.... Loki my brother... wake up. It's me, Thor."
Mobius pulled out his tempad, "We need an emergency medical team, I'm sending you our contact information. Lo... Loki is unconscious but still breathing. I see several superficial wounds but that's all I can tell."
Looking down at the unconscious body of the god he had arrested and delivered to the TVA, Mobius felt the guilt that had always haunted him wash over him in uncontrollable waves and knelt down again beside Thor.
He turned to him and like so many times in the last twenty years, he wanted to apologize, "Thor, I..."
Thor shook his head, "No Mobius, we've been over this, you're my friend and we know that what you did to the TVA twenty years ago wasn't your fault. It was them who hurt you and Loki. Mobius, I don't know anyone more dedicated than you. Everything you've done since you escaped from the old TVA has long since redeemed you in my eyes and in Mother's eyes. You know that. "
Mobius swallowed the lump in his throat and asked, pointing to Loki lying at his feet, "And in his eyes?"
Thor's large hand rested on his shoulder, "All in good time, my friend. Let the medical team arrive first and let my brother wake up."
Mobius nodded, unable to look away from the god lying at his feet.
He murmured, "We found him..."
They heard the unmistakable sound of a time door behind them and moved to let the medical team through.
As they placed him on the stretcher, Mobius heard Thor whisper, "What has he been through that he is unable to heal himself?"
Mobius felt the weight of guilt fall on his shoulders again.
He should have been faster.
They should have found him sooner.
He should have broken free sooner.
"Mobius!"
Thor's call snapped him out of his thoughts and he saw his friend beckoning him to follow him through the time door.
On the other side, they were greeted by Elora, former Hunter B-15 and now director of the new TVA.
"How is he?"
Mobius stepped forward and replied, "Can't tell. He is unconscious."
Elora laid a hand on his arm, "What about you?"
Mobius shrugged, "It doesn't matter."
She shook her head and sighed, "Mobius..."
Mobius resumed, "Elo, I... I have to..."
She nodded, understanding, "I understand, go and if you need anything, just ask."
Mobius nodded in thanks and moved quickly to catch up with the medical team.
He could hear the whispers as he passed.
"It's Agent Mobius! »
"The famous one !"
"Is he the one who managed to escape from the old TVA?"
"Yes, it is said that he travels the universes looking for the people the TVA had arbitrarily kidnapped and exiled."
"I hear he lives in Asgard and only does freelance work here."
"Yes, they say he's looking everywhere for Thor's brother Loki!"
"He's a hero!"
Mobius swallowed.
No! Don't believe that! I am not a hero!
I'm just fixing the hundreds of mistakes I've made!
"Stop, you can't follow us!"
Thor growled, "I am his brother!" Mobius stopped him, "Thor, wait, we have to wait here, we can't go in with them. Let them do what they have to do."
Thor grunted but obeyed and they went to sit in the waiting room.
Mobius leaned back in his seat and closed his eyes. Memories immediately came flooding back to him
"Laufeyson. Variant L0034, AKA Loki Laufeyson-"
Loki interrupted the judge in a loud voice, "Friggason."
"I beg your pardon?" the judge asked curtly.
"My name is Loki Friggason, I am obviously not the son of Odin, and I do not know Laufey. The only person I recognize as a relative is my mother Frigga and my brother Thor."
The judge shrugged, "As you wish, it won't make any difference anyway."
Loki replied in the same strong, determined voice, incredibly calm considering the situation.
"For me it makes a difference to die as Frigga's son and Thor's brother."
Mobius watched Loki's trial as he did with every person he had arrested.
He had arrested a few Loki, but this was the first time he had seen one openly show his filial attachment.
The judge continued, "Loki Friggason is charged with sequence violation 7-20-89."
"How do you plead?"
"For that, Judge, I would have to know what this sequence violation is."
"You have deviated from the flow of time by taking an unacceptable action."
"What action?"
"An action that went against the sacred timeline."
For the first time Loki showed signs of impatience and repeated louder, "What action?"
Mobius realized for the first time that he too did not know. He had been ordered to go and stop this variant, but he hadn't asked himself why.
Since when did he not ask himself any questions?
"An action that would have led to serious consequences. Plead guilty or not guilty?"
Loki did not answer the question and exclaimed, "I only wanted to see my brother and mother again, to know if they were thinking of me, if they missed me as much as I missed him!"
Mobius felt increasingly uncomfortable.
Something was wrong, but he didn't know what.
The judge replied in a terse voice, "Guilty then."
He motioned to the minute-men who were on guard, "Take him to time cell 2033 until his fate is decided."
Loki continued to shout, "I only wanted to see my family again!"
They heard his cries for a long time behind the door of the court. Mobius stepped forward to the judge.
"May I know what action Loki Friggason has committed against the sacred timeline?"
The judge replied coldly, "You have no authority to know that information."
Mobius nodded and walked out of the courtroom, his sense of unease growing. He headed for the TVA archives.
He approached the archivist's desk and after greeting her, asked her for the files of all the people he had arrested.
"Those files are in the special section. You are not authorized to access them."
"But-"
"No exceptions."
He walked out of the archives and into an adjacent room.
Why couldn't he access his own archived files?
He had to know, so for the first time, Mobius did something absolutely forbidden. He used his tempad to teleport into the TVA compound.
He conjured up a timedoor that would lead him directly into the special archive section.
As soon as he passed through the door, he checked to see if anyone was there and then consulted the register before heading to the shelf containing the files filed under the title, "Arrests by Agent Mobius".
He was surprised to see that there were many more than he remembered arresting people.
He began to flip through what appeared to be the oldest files, and realized that he couldn't remember any of them. Rushing through all the files until the most recent one, Loki L0034, he was shocked to see that out of a hundred files, he could only remember the last twenty.
He then went through the files of the people he remembered and was even more shocked to see that their files were almost empty.
Crime: Sequence violation without any details.
Punishment: Exile in the Void
Still no explanation of the exact crime and especially what the Void was.
It was the first time he had seen this word.
Mobius felt that the more he learned, the less he knew.
He decided to confront Ravonna and headed to her office.
He was about to knock, but held his arm back when he heard the voice of the judge who had presided over Loki's trial.
"Judge Renslayer, I think we're going to have a problem with Agent Mobius."
"Mobius?"
"Mobius !"
Thor's voice snapped him out of his memories.
"The doctor wants to talk to me. Come with me."
Mobius shook his head, "I'm not from the fam-"
"Don't finish your sentence if you don't want me to use my hammer on you."
Mobius smiled weakly and followed Thor into the office of the TVA's chief physician/sorcerer.
He motioned them to sit down and explained, "His condition is stable, but he is physically exhausted and also his magic core is currently very weak. He probably had to use a large number of it in a very short time."
Thor interrupted him, "But is that-"
The doctor stopped him, "Let me continue. The best thing to do is to wait until he wakes up. We will use a combination of human and magical medicine. Sorcerers will alternate to regenerate his magic core and he will receive infusions of the nutrients necessary for his physical regeneration. Until his Magic Core is restored, he will not be able to use his healing abilities to regenerate himself. Do you understand?"
Mobius and Thor nodded, then Mobius asked softly, "And... h-how can we help him?"
The doctor replied, "Although I have no idea how a comatose god reacts, it has been proven in the case of human comatose patients that the presence and interaction of friends and family can help a great deal in the recovery."
Mobius figured he was basically out.
Thor poked him in the knee and pointed to his hammer as he mouthed, "I know what you're thinking, I understand why you're thinking it, but you have the right to be with him just as much as Mother and I do."
Mobius swallowed and nodded as the doctor asked them, "Do you have any questions for me?"
Thor replied, "Not at this time."
"Very well, a nurse will take you to his room. No more than two people at a time okay?"
Both men nodded and turned to the nurse who invited them to follow her.
Once they arrived in the room and the nurse left, they both approached the bed. Each on one side.
Mobius could not hold back a gasp.
Loki was dressed in a hospital gown that made him look pale and thin.
His black hair with gray streaks was splayed around his head and he had a few light cuts on his face.
Thor leaned over to him and kissed his forehead, "Loki... brother... we are finally reunited."
Mobius pulled a chair forward for him to sit beside his brother, but Thor shook his head and nudged him into it.
"You stay here with him. I'll go tell mother and come back with her."
Mobius sat down and nodded, his throat too tight to speak.
Thor looked at him with compassion, a compassion Mobius thought he didn't deserve, and said softly, "If it weren't for you, we never would have made it. I know you don't believe me, but it's the truth."
He turned and walked out of the room.
Mobius put his hand next to Loki's, which was lying inert on the sheet, and then giving in to the impulse of the moment, he took it in his own.
He whispered, "I'm so sorry... to have let you down..."
"Judge Renslayer, I think we're going to have a problem with Agent Mobius."
"Mobius?"
"He asked me a strange question at the end of the Loki Lau- Friggason trial. It was the first time an agent had asked what the crime the defendant had actually committed was. Also, it was reported that he fraudulently used his tempad to teleport directly into the special archive."
"Very well, you may leave me, I will take care of it."
Hearing footsteps coming closer, Mobius moved away and hid in a doorway a little further away. Once the judge was out of Ravonna's office and he was sure he couldn't see him, Mobius returned to stand behind the door.
It seemed that Ravonna was talking to someone.
"Yes, master. It appears he has had access to classified information. Agent Mobius is compromised, I'm afraid."
[...]
"Erase his memory again? This will be the fifth time. »
[...]
"Yes master."
[...]
"For the record, the variant L0034 has also been sent to the Void. Neither of them seem to remember the other. Yes, I promise you that the mistake will not happen again."
[...]
"Yes, master. Goodbye master."
Mobius turned back and walked in a natural way so as not to arouse attention to the first empty room he found.
He entered, blocked the door, and let himself slide against a wall.
His memory erased? Four times? That explained all the stuff he couldn't remember.
Why should he and Loki remember each other? Had they met before?
Was his whole life a lie?
He had to pull himself together, right now the urgent problem was to get away before they found him and wiped his memory.
"Agent Mobius! Open this door!"
Too late.
He took out his tempad, his hands trembling.
Where to go? Where to ask for help?
He frantically searched between all the possible destinations.
When suddenly his finger stopped on one.
No way, that would be a direct death!
But it was worth it.
To fix what he had done, he could risk death.
The pounding was getting louder against the door, which would soon give way.
He entered the coordinates and a time door appeared as the doors opened on armed minutemen followed by Ravonna.
As he passed through the time door he turned as Ravonna yelled, "Mobiuuuus!" and as the time door closed on him, he still had time to see Ravonna's spear go through it and felt a pain in his side.
Everything went black before his eyes and he was awakened moments later by a thunderous voice that asked, "Who are you?"
He opened his eyes, dazzled by the light before passing out again.
"Who... who are you?"
Mobius snapped out of his reverie at the voice of Loki, who had his eyes wide open.
Not ready, Mobius began to stammer, "My... my name is-"
Loki interrupted him, his eyes narrowing, "Mobius?"

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Weirded out by what he's seeing, and not entirely sure it's real, Loki can't take his eyes off it, either. The way alligator Loki drinks his boxed wine is just so fascinating to him, yet weird and other-wordly (he knows those well) at the same time. And he's weirded out more by the fact that he doesn't find a variant of him being an alligator strange in any way. He's had a few trying days, as he said himself.
Loki manages to divert his eyes off the creature with horns on its head and looks to the grapes he holds in his hand. He picks small dirt away from the berries and takes a grape into his mouth with ease. The taste reminds him of many things. His childhood, his home, his family... Thor, Frigga, Odin, Sif and the Warriors Three. Asgard. The Gardens, the waters, the Bifrost. Heimdall. Visits to the city, the markets, the celebrations.
Love.
Loki blinks, fooling himself and others by aiming to portray that he's not thinking about anything important. But he is. She was the most important thing to him, and now... Well, maybe during the New York heist, she's still fine, but after Ragnarok... Loki fears too much to think about it.
He wishes he could remember everything with her that followed New York, but all he has of their future is some worn-out tape in the TVA archives. Perhaps even pictures... He wants to live through all they had now, he wishes he could do that most of all. Of course, there's the finding Mobius and helping Sylvie burn down the TVA thing, but upon remembering her, it all falls into the background.
His first love. Not a god, like him, but she was a goddess in his eyes. He smiles now, subtly, at the fond memories of her. He noticed the little moments he had with her in the tape Mobius had, about his whole future. How beautiful she always was, her subtle way of laughing and going about her smiles and giggles, how exceptional and different her clothes always were, how her hair shined in any light...
“Did any of you...” Loki starts to say, and sighs shortly before continuing, thinking he'll probably regret asking it, “did any of you leave a... a lover behind when the TVA arrested you? Prince or princess?” He looks between his variants. Young Loki shoots him a stern look. “Apologies, my liege. You seem too young for that.” Loki bids him a polite smile, but his brain whirs. “How long have you been here, anyway?”
“Don't know. Time doesn't really... exist here.” Young Loki says and throws a salt biscuit into alligator Loki's jaws. “But no lovers in my lifetime, Loki.” He pointedly looks at the older variant of himself, nodding slightly.
“Not yet, at least.” Loki points out and gets scoffs and chuckles from Boastful and Classic Loki. He looks at them with a furrowed brow.
“Oh, you and your grand plan,” Classic Loki shakes his head before taking another sip from his huge cup. Loki only rolls his eyes, but still waits for answers to his question, “well,” Classic Loki downs his drink, “it would be no surprise to you that I had countless partners before I chose isolation. Partners of any kind.” He winks. Loki nods, understanding how much alike he truly is with his variants. “But I feel there is no one truly... truly made for me. Like midgardians would say - 'the one'.“
“In my case, there were many 'the ones',” Boastful Loki says, mocking Classic's use of words. All other Lokis roll their eyes, “I actually feel like every person in the whole universe was made to be with me. I'm just that irresistible.” He smiles pleasantly to himself. Alligator Loki growls again.
“That's another “liar” from him to you, Boast,” Classic Loki nods his head towards Boastful, who only shakes his head and frowns.
“I had my fair share of men and women before I was taken,” Boastful says, “must have been the same for you, Loki.” He looks at him. “Asgard was truly a giving place.”
Loki chuckles, but looks away from his variants. “Oh, it was...” he says quietly, “it was.” His voice grows even more quiet. Young and Classic Loki exchange a look.
“Do tell us, your mischievousness.” Classic Loki urges him. Loki shoots him a nervous look, then he leans back into the sofa and sighs, his eyes strictly focused on his hands.
“I had plenty before I met... one,” he starts to say, “me and her share a past, and, it seems, a future as well. After New York, I am taken to Asgard, imprisoned, but she is there. I fake my death and rule over Asgard as Odin, and she's there. I help Thor destroy our evil sister--”
“Oh, she was a nasty one.” Boastful says, shaking his head. “We used to have a connection, but then she just... I don't even know.” He shrugs. Loki eyes him for a second before continuing.
“We destroyed Asgard, but saved its people, and saved her. We make for Midgard, and she's there with me.” Loki sighs, his eyes gloomy. “And then... Thanos attacks, destroys half, if not all our people, and...” he can't even speak further. His variants share a look, each having quite the correct guess for what could follow after that. Boastful drinks from his cup in an awkward manner. “But I feel like that's another life I lived. Or another me. I don't know, I feel so... disconnected from her, from what we had. Must be the TVA and this... void. And all that's happened, all I've learned about my future.” He sighs again.
“Meeting her again would be a wake-up call, no?” Boastful asks. Loki shrugs, a sad expression on his face.
“Rather a sign that you're real.” Classic Loki says with a wide, true smile. Loki looks to him as if looking at a mentor. “I often felt like the people I loved and the love I had for them, even if it was not reciprocated, were a reminder that I am real, I exist and I can feel all these things.”
Loki considers his words, and then nods along, finding a truth in them.
“After all, love and all other emotions are the human part in all of us.” Classic says. “And it isn't always bad to feel like a regular human being.” Loki can also find truth in those words. Love makes one feel alive, makes you feel like you're on the right path, found the right person, found your purpose. It doesn't always have to be glorious, it can be small, but nonetheless important to you.
“I used to think humans smaller than us, more pathetic and puny, but...” Loki shakes his head, “we, gods, are just the same, really.” He chuckles sadly. “Having quarrels over the stupidest things, being as imperfect as humans... Sometimes I even felt like I was too good, too perfect for something like true love, which is a pathetic emotion that makes you feel all kinds of other feelings, but...” he smiles, “often times I felt like that, she told me everyone was deserving of love, even me.” His smile grows wider.
“She sounds lovely.” Classic Loki tells him with a kind smile.
“She was that, and more.” Loki nods along. Young Loki imitates the sound of a snore and throws a crumpled piece of paper at Loki's shoulder.
“You're making me extremely bored.” He announces and sits straighter in his chair, looking over the mess that is his palace. “Love's boring.” Young Loki throws a juice carton across the room, making a face.
“You are just too young to understand and know it, your majesty.” Boastful says with a wink, and the next juice carton is flying over his head with a snicker from Young Loki. Classic Loki keeps Boastful tight in his seat so an argument wouldn't arise, and Boastful hesitantly restrains, his drink almost spilling over his cup. Loki watches them with a sappy smile on his features, and decides this is a good place to spend eternity at, even without her.

Hidden Horror in Loki
I am haunted by a few portions of the Loki series. Like I find myself thinking about these fictitious story beats and make myself cry in the shower. Thought I’d share it here, but I warn you: it’s sad.
Tumblr media
Every person that Sylvie met after her escape from the TVA was doomed to die
Think about that for a second. It wasn’t JUST that Sylvie was on the run from a very young age (though that’s terrible enough on it’s own), she literally had to hide in apocalypses for hundreds to thousands of years. She knew that every kindly grandmother who gave her food would be killed in a few minutes or days. Each cute boy or girl she had a crush on would die very soon - and probably quite painfully.
Every laughing baby, every smiling couple, every sleepy kitten, every person she was ever intimate with... For 1000 years, every face she saw was doomed to death. And if she had to go to the same apocalypses over and over again, she got to see the same people die many times over.
Even If she ever had wanted to save someone - to help the people of Pompeii escape the volcano or rescue the RoxxCart shoppers or just save someone she felt a connection with - she couldn’t. If she rescued anyone from the ‘sacred timeline’, the TVA would find her and kill everyone she’d saved.
No wonder she’s got difficulties connecting with others!
Tumblr media
All of those cars, buses, and buildings in the Void were full of people when they were pruned
Instead of looking for Easter eggs in the void, I was busy picturing the last horrifying moments of the thousands of men, women, and children who must have been consumed alive by Alioth. Even Classic Loki says that “whole realities’ had been sent to the Void and eaten.
Sylvie found herself in a school bus when she was pruned - who’s to say that bus wasn’t full of children when it was sent to the void?
When we see the USS Eldrige try to fight Alioth, at least they were soldiers. At least they were used to seeing the horrors of war. What about the literal millions of helpless, innocent people that were sent there to die?
Tumblr media
President Loki is fighting to rule over a miserable, hopeless wasteland where the universe goes to die
I know it’s played for laughs, but President Loki (along with all of the other Loki variants in the void) just makes me so sad.
It wasn’t until I saw the Funko pop for President Loki that I really noticed how worn and damaged his suit is. Yes, it’s Tom Hiddleston so he looks sexy as hell no matter what. But the thing that really got me is his torn pant leg. How did that happen? How long has he been here?
And that damn torn pant leg made me realize how absolutely horrific his life must be. How many people has he seen die? Thousands? Millions? He can trust no one, he fights to the death for scraps. What kind of immeasurable suffering is behind that smile? His is a loveless, empty, paranoid, miserable existence. Just like almost every other Loki in the Void.
Our Loki felt inadequate and unloved and so tried to take over Earth. But what about President Loki? Does he distract himself from his soul-crushing emptiness by keeping the suit as pristine as possible? Is that the only sense of self and security he has? But what happens when the suit tears?
They’re like rabid animals - scratching and clawing and killing each other to climb aboard a sinking ship. They’re all going to die - but the one at the top will die last - and that’s all they’re really fighting for.
Tumblr media
The nightmare that is Throg’s cameo
Speaking of miserable existences - How am I supposed to sleep at night knowing that there is a sentient creature buried alive in the Void? I mean, Jimminy Christmas, that’s horrifying.
Tumblr media
Who could be mad at Sylvie for trying to destroy the organization that caused all of this misery?
In summation - Sylvie’s life was a nightmare, the TVA is unimaginably evil, and President Loki makes me a strange combination of sad and aroused.
Sorry for the sad feels everyone; I just had to get it off my chest.

How is everyone? I hope everybody's safe from the virus. Here's my analysis for episode 5
Ep 1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | 5 | 6
Ep 5: Self Loathing and Hatred
Episode 5 was so full of Lokis that even our Loki needed a break from the constant Loki. Also owing to the huge amount of Loki in this episode of Loki, I will be referring our Loki as Loki, other Lokis have their own unique Loki name afterall ( looks like I am high 🙄 ). I will also make separate posts about Classic Loki's development.
Anyways, keeping the gibberish aside, Loki had already passed the hero threshold in the previous episode. So, in this episode, he isn't actually displaying any flaw himself. Instead each of his variants act like a mirror to allow him to see his behaviour from an outside perspective.
Loki's deepest insecurity
Tumblr media
Loki's deepest insecurity is his self loathing. The voice at the back of his head constantly telling him he is not good enough. If we strip down every one of Loki's bad deeds in the MCU, they all be traced back to his self loathing. He wants the throne to win his father's approval to stop his loathing, he wants to be seen as Thor's equal to stop his self loathing. After Odin's 'no', he tries to take over Earth to prove himself in order to feel worthy and not like a loser.
All this because Loki considers himself to be unworthy and lacking. He doesn't value and even hates his own individual traits and gifts. This insecurity is further amplified once he learns of his heritage. In Thor, he calls himself the monster people tell their children about at night. His entire monologue with Nat in Avengers can be interpreted as him projecting his self loathing on Nat. In TDW, he says 'See you in Hel, Monster'. All this shows, Loki didn't have a high opinion of himself. And in this episode, one of his variant showcases his self loathing on a surface level
Loki vs Classic Loki
Tumblr media
Loki and Classic Loki are parallels of each other. Both are variants of the OG timeline Loki from two pivotal moments of his life. And both showcase two very different perceptions about being a Loki.
While Loki is on a journey of healing and self love, and has started coming to terms with himself, Classic Loki completely gave in to his self loathing and has been dismissive about both himself and Loki variants in general all throughout the episode.
He stayed in isolation for a long time because he believed he is only a bearer of pain and death. He mocks the Loki like behaviour of being too sensitive. He thinks every single Loki is an animal who is broken and can never change.
And his purpose in this episode is to act as the personification of Loki's self loathing. Whenever Loki attempts something, Classic Loki is the first to chide or discourage him. When Loki suggests planning to escape the void, he counters by reminding him about all the other variants who came with stupid plans just like him that don't go anywhere. He tells Loki that they only have one job to be the god of outcasts. He laughs along with others at Loki's plan to kill Alioth.
Yet Loki doesn't let anything stop him. He refuses to accept Classic Loki's idea of being a Loki and gets up to leave the alleyway. Instead, he uses Sylvie as an example to show they can be different. He even convinces both Classic Loki and Kid Loki to help him kill Alioth and take down the TVA. In the end, Classic Loki sacrifices himself to help Loki and Sylvie enchant Alioth. In a poetic way, the one Loki who felt Lokis can never grow and change, gives his life to help his other variant become a better version of himself.
And that's the analysis for Episode 5. Adios!

OK so I know even a lot of people who have generally not been pleased with the Loki show have liked Pres Loki for the way he does seem to behave a bit more like the Loki from earlier versions of canon. I was not so pleased with it, and I’d like to explain why. And also why I loved the interaction of the four variant Lokis in the bunker and felt that was a rare moment in the show that displayed any real understanding of the character.
So let’s start with the gang of Lokis and what that scene did right. With each little interaction, we were given glimpses of the ways in which these four---classic Loki, kid Loki, boastful Loki, and alligator Loki---differed from each other and what traits they shared, but more importantly, the ways they interacted with each other actually said something about how Loki feels about himself. It was, in a word, fraught. It was internal conflict made external, but not just that, because they are also surviving together, as uncomfortable allies. Classic Loki defending and deferring to kid Loki, both because no one one did that for him and because he has also reached the point where nothing really matters anymore and he has nothing to strive for or hope for, and after so long alone, how he treats himself is all he has left. Kid Loki (who we got criminally little of but he made the most of his screentime), the most bereft of all, so young to have such a wound, and who has had to get used to it, and does so by trusting in himself. These other selves. Alligator Loki---who even knows how the world looks to him or how he ended up here, but he’s still fallen in with them, cleaving to the recognition of himself. The group of them, they snipe and squabble, but they also clearly rely on each other for survival and companionship: Loki can always depend on himself. He hates himself and pities himself, he trusts only himself and he attacks himself, he protects himself and he hurts himself. The push and pull of these different aspects and reflections of Loki is an adept metaphor for the internal conflict that the earlier canon showed through different means, in implication and subtle gestures and unspoken words.
In contrast... the scene with the arrival of Pres Loki and his band of traitorous comrades is... unsubtle, and about as deep as gator!Loki’s kiddie pool. Pres Loki may be suave and confident, but he reflects nothing, and neither do his crew. They show up to conveniently break up the scene in what feels like more of the same disjointed, manic scriptvomit we’ve seen in the rest of the show that seems only intended to harp on the approximately two things that the writers know about Loki, as if he were Thor condemned to do nothing but eat poptarts and speak in a booming voice in a 2012-era fanfic: that Loki is incompetent, and that he reflexively betrays people. The point of Pres Loki’s arrival seems to be “ha ha, Loki is so stupidly committed to betrayal, he’ll even fuck himself over for no reason other than wanting to be powerful even when there is literally no benefit to doing so.” (Another misread of Loki’s character---Loki doesn’t want power for itself, and he never did. He wants it for what it represents, he wants to be seen as deserving of it, he wants to be loved and respected the same way Thor was. In the void, there isn’t any chance of that, so the whole thing is just... baffling.) And, I mean, it’s also just dumb. Pres Loki has none of Loki’s cleverness. How long has he been stuck there? Why is he still surprised at being backstabbed, given how we’re supposed to understand that’s all Lokis ever do? It’s just very Keystone Cops, honestly, and so not Loki.
So yeah that’s my take and why I loved classic Loki and kid Loki and gator Loki and that whole scene but I could have really done without the whole Pres Loki nonsense.

But what if we'd had more time and there had been multiple episodes of the Void and their journey across it to try to figure out how to defeat cloud dragon, more time spent with the Loki variant squad to build friendships, more time for Loki and Mobius to have moments on an equal playing field, maybe having increasingly tense conversations around a post apocalyptic oil drum fire and little by little more layers peel away, as Loki worries about all the aspects of himself right in Mobius' face, a little embarrassed/ashamed almost, especially if President Loki was the temporary villain- a testament to what he might have been, but Mobius assures him he's seen just about every facet of Loki that there has ever been and nothing would make him want to stop being friends with this Loki and Loki feels SEEN and yet more relaxed than he's been in a long time, also in awe of Mobius that he'd be so unbothered, so accepting and his heart flutters just a little. And maybe it's when Loki sees Mobius have a moment with Kid!Loki, maybe it's nothing intense or exceptional, just Mobius tossing a ball with him or something, or maybe it's when he catches Mobius and Classic Loki having an intellectual debate about something having to do with Asgard, or maybe it's when he sees Sylvie trying to teach Mobius to (clumsily) spar and his suit jacket is off and his sleeves are rolled to the elbows, his tie gone, and maybe it's then that Loki realizes he's already fallen.

I would not say the Loki series is making all their male characters stupid in the favor of female characters. They don't have an issue with Mobius or the other Lokis or Kang. It's only Tom!Loki who is humiliated all the time. They seem to hate that version of Loki people loved for years.
I see where you're coming from but I disagree slightly. It's not that they're treating all the male characters like fools so that the women will shine, they're treating Loki and his variants as fools so that Sylvie can shine. And the only reason they needed to do that was because they refused to take their time to write a good character.
There's Mobius, a villain who has been pruning entire realities for who knows how long, loves his job at the TVA (“My own glorious purpose. ‘Cause the TVA is my life. And it’s real because I believe it’s real”) and only turns against them when it gets personal for him. From then on he's framed like a hero and any past actions are forgiven.
They don't need to dumb Mobius down because his existence doesn't affect Sylvie's personality or character at all.
The variants however... that's another story.
We have Classic!Loki who's portrayed as a coward who escaped the ship and hid away until he started missing his brother, at which point the TVA intervened so that he would never reunite with him again. That's not mentioning the suit, utterly ridiculous and completely unnecessary. He gets to show off his magic, sure... only to be killed off right away. His glorious purpose is to die and further somebody else's story.
Kid!Loki is a ruler, so a confirmation that all Lokis want is to sit on a throne, and in case that wasn't enough he's said to have killed Thor. No explanation, no story, nothing. He's a murderer, he killed his big bro, what a mischievous scamp. And he refuses to leave The Void because, as Classic!Loki puts it, that's their "home". It is their home to stay hidden away, never free to leave, doomed to an apocalyptic life where their fate is to fight and kill each other.
Boastful!Loki is a liar and a betrayer. And out of all the others the only one that gets a moment is President!Loki, a character whose only interest is to rule (wow, shocker) but ends up betrayed by every other variant and has his hand eaten by the alligator.
The only man left is HWR, the main villain we only meet in the last episode, who needs a 30-minute exposition to explain his story and his purpose in it, and whatever he says is treated as the ultimate truth.
The only men framed as fools, evil, worthless and stupid are the Loki variants because the writers wanted the audience to see how useless they are in direct contrast to Sylvie who's so resourceful and capable and intelligent and has the best ideas and knows just how to defeat Alioth even though she has been in The Void for 15 minutes whereas all the other variants have been there for years.
And sure, those characters are not called names or humiliated or kicked in the guts and so people think they were treated well but they weren't. Everything in ep5 is disgusting and this got long enough so I'll just reference this post I wrote a while ago.

My Take on The Loki Series, And All The Things I Would Change About/Add To It If I Could (in vaguely chronological order)
Small disclaimer: This is just a compilation of all the ideas I had for ways the Loki Series could have gone, expanding on the main premise. It doesn’t cover everything, simply the aspects of the plot that I felt compelled to diverge from specifically. It’s not meant as an overly harsh critique of the show, just alternate possibilities. A… variant of the show if you will (It’s also egregiously long and yet I had to stop myself from saying more).
The series opens in the TVA with a display of the branching timeline that Loki created. We don’t meet any characters yet or see anyone’s faces, only hearing readings of codes and tracking of the Loki ‘variant’ before switching to Loki.
After traveling with the Tesseract, he takes in his surroundings (it can be the Gobi Desert but the thing with the Mongolians does not happen) but before he can get too far the TVA shows up.
I think it would be interesting to have a sequence of Loki evading them in different environments. Teleporting to different areas/planets and using different forms/disguises (maybe we see a Lady Loki in a restaurant, our Loki, and a few other outfits), however the TVA finds him every time no matter where or what form.
Eventually he gets fed up of running and confronts them directly. This should be an actual fight, i.e. magic and a Loki who is committed to not being taken down again. Ultimately through use of magic dampening technology or other means (but for the love of god not whatever that punch was), he is apprehended and taken into the TVA.
I think the TVA should have been a lot more crowded. They control/ monitor all of time, so we should have seen tons of variants of all shapes/colors/styles/species, maybe even a few characters we recognize (like in the concept art for the show). Show us that Loki is not special here, he is just another variant to be processed and done with, like all the others.
Loki will have already noticed and felt a lack of magic at the TVA, maybe he tried to use it already so by the time we get to the judge his main concern is talking his way out—Putting his ‘silver tongue’ to use. (Lack of magic in the TVA would be referenced later as well when Loki goes to summon a knife or use magic, only to remember that he can’t there).
This is a very small point but if the TVA knows him as Laufeyson, he absolutely would take offense to that. It’s been one year since he found out about and killed his birth father, I’d assume wants nothing to do with the title. Of course the TVA wouldn’t care, and we’d probably get something like:
“I am Loki, of Asgard, and you will address me as such.”
“I think you’ll find out things work a little differently here at the TVA, Mr. Laufeyson.”
Before he’s able to be pruned we have Mobius step in and plead his case.
If the show wants to portray Mobius as a friend we’ll see him have sympathy and conflicts about the TVA from the beginning. He doesn’t quite fit in, he’s bored of the monotony of the place and he has remorse for what they’re doing, but knows it’s not his place to question it. I like the idea of him being somewhat of a fan of Loki (they did mention this in the show but then proceeded to have him belittle Loki every time he opened his mouth which is uh… a choice). Mobius needs Loki’s help but he also has the desire to help Loki. He’s seen how his life plays out and understands that there’s more in him than his worst decisions. I think that Mobius secretly/ subconscious wants a bit of chaos, that he’s intrigued by Loki and as an analyst has an interest in understanding him.
Loki vs B15 would ideally happen before Loki returns to the time theater with the Tesseract instead of after. It would not be so easy for her to physically overpower him as even without magic he still has enhanced strength. (The minutemen show no signs of being genetically much stronger than humans, so arguably without use of their technology it’s obvious he could take one in a fight.
Back in the time theater after Loki’s watched the reel of his life, much of the conversation happens the same albeit with a greater emphasis on Loki’s true motivations and his feelings of powerlessness in his role. A bit about Thanos too (realistically vague). Perhaps he thought at the time he was doing what he wanted, but is starting to realize he doesn’t know anymore. Then we see a version of:
“I can’t promise you salvation, but maybe I can offer you something better.”
“A proposition, I see you have done your research. So tell me, agent, what would you have me do?”
Mobius explains why they need him to track down a variant of himself, and they shake on it. It’s clear that neither of them trust each other yet, but there is a mutual understanding that they will work together anyway.
Their friendship should grow naturally, slowly gaining each other’s trust until they see each other as true allies. In this there are more episodes than in the actual show (I’ll say 8 instead of 6). Give them a few more adventures and a bit more time for splitting up to hurt.
In Roxxcart, we see more use of magic. He dries himself off, maybe shape shifts into/imitates B15 or a minuteman. Loki uses illusions in the fight against the variant. He tries to reason with and understand what they are doing and why. The fight is somewhat matched although Loki is still holding back, fighting with misdirection as the variant fights using possession. Neither of them are showing themselves, and in an attempt to make the variant stop hiding, Loki disperses all the doubles and asks them to do the same. He takes a chance and this is how the variant gets the upper hand, setting off the branches and then revealing herself as Sylvie.
(Side note: In the concept art for the show, Loki changes into his Asgardian outfit by the time he and Sylvie are on Lementis. I definitely could see that working either when the fight begins/during it, or when he goes through the time door. In either case I think it would be somewhat of a gesture to Sylvie that he is not truly aligned with the TVA, thus setting them both apart/ in opposition to it.)
Instead of romance, Sylvie and Loki forge a bond through seeing themselves in each other throughout the series. They talk about the differences in their past and how they got there. They bicker and make each other laugh and rather than Sylvie just insulting Loki, it’s a mutual rapport. Loki gives just as good as he gets and they find they can work better together than apart.
On Lementis, Loki easily gets them into the train by impersonating a guard (or by conjuring tickets).
They talk about magic. How Sylvie is untrained but self taught and doesn’t understand hers very well. Loki can talk about how he views magic/his magic (we can maybe pull a few things from Norse beliefs about seiðr here). Does he view it as a part of himself? Something honed and precise? I want magic to be portrayed as an artful practice, and I want him to help Sylvie understand hers.
Loki gets drunk and they’re kicked out of the train. This reads as funny because Loki will have been sharp and competent throughout the show so far, so him losing his cool and failing the plan is unexpected.
Instead of the Tempad breaking for absolutely no reason, they argue over where to go/ how to use it. This leads to them both having a hand at accidentally destroying it because of self interest and refusing to work together. It illustrates again that they are stronger together but in conflict they are their own worst enemy (much like Loki in general which ties into a bigger metaphor for all his shortcomings).
Expanding on the magic thing, Sylvie and Loki through the series learn from each other. Loki can teach her some of his magic, and Slyvie can teach him enchantment (which he’s read about but never really mastered, although he approaches learning it like any other spell).
Loki could show her an illusion of Asgard as he remembers it. And in doing so we see that both of them long for it. Because for all Loki has claimed to renounce it, he misses home, and he and the audience see the same thing in Sylvie.
I think it would be interesting for Sylvie to let him enchant her, and we can see one of her memories. Maybe it’s when she was taken, maybe it’s on the run, maybe it’s a happy place, but it gives us insight into her character and past. I’m on the fence if Slyvie should enchant Loki, but if she did I’d pick them accidentally going back to the day Odin took him (which is how we deal with the icy blue elephant in the room that the writers refuse to tackle). Let Loki be conflicted and angry and unsure how he feels about it. This could once again be a moment where Loki and Sylvie connect because it’s (I’m assuming) where both their stories began. It’s a mirror of both of their origins, and she helps him see some good in that.
In the void (which is renamed something else so as to not get confused with the void™ that Loki fell into in Thor 2011) Loki learns from and connects with his other variants. They all have a point to being there, and he starts to reflect on what makes him him and what role he wants to play now.
When Sylvie and Mobius show up they agree on the plan to kill Aliyoth, either because it will stop anyone else from being killed by the TVA, or because they think he is guarding the entrance to whoever is behind everything.
Loki later asks Sylvie if she had a Thor. She did but probably doesn’t remember him much. What she does remember, she tells him. Through talking to both Classic Loki and Sylvie it’s recognized that he does miss his brother, that all Loki’s do, and that they are constants meant to aid each other and fight and suffer but always be brothers in any universe.
When they finally fight Aliyoth Loki summons new armor/his helm. Along with Kid Loki giving him Laevateinn, each Loki also gives him something to remember them or aid in their quest (yay Loki solidarity!). When I say this I mean daggers! Daggers dear gods have one of them give him daggers, boy needs some knives.
When they realize they can’t kill him, Sylvie has the idea to use enchantment. Like in the show, Sylvie can’t do it on her own and so they join hands and combine their powers together, revealing the Citadel beyond. They look at each other and agree that they have to move forward.
“Do we trust each other?”
“We do.”
Inside the Citadel we have Kang himself make the offer to give them what they wish. Sylvie can get the life that was stolen from her. Loki could be offered a Throne, he could be offered to be the first born, or to be a true Æsir, or kill Thanos, but ultimately he denies. He’s realized throughout the show that he’d rather be different, he’d rather be him, and he won’t settle for a fantasy world that isn’t real.
The message is about choice, about free will, chaos. Every choice you make directly results in who you become, every action changes how your story goes, and Loki understands that no one has the right to limit that.
In this it is Sylvie though, who is tempted. She has been on a quest for revenge her whole life, she never had a home, doesn’t remember feeling loved, and in the end it is a fight against temptation, and Loki knows all about that.
They fight each other, and break their vow of trust because ultimately they are each other but they are also different. They clash until Loki is able to talk her down, to relate to her, to show that he “just wants her to be okay” and reaffirms her goal. Kang of course continues to be self assured in his predictions. I’d imagine here is where we could get a declarative sort of speech like “I am Loki, God of Mischief,” They join hands “and no one tells our story” or… something to that affect.
Loki and Sylvie fight to destroy Kang together, and here we discover that if he is killed the multiverse opens, and the war of his variants will begin anew. We see flashbacks of Kang’s past and variants played out, and how he came to be at the citadel. Sylvie can talk about why it’s better to have chaos than to sanitize history and kill in the name of the greater good.
The show ends with the death of Kang and the splintering of the timelines. With Sylvie and Loki looking out the window into the fracturing strands of time.
Other changes and thoughts
Tone: the tone I’d imagine this would take on is possibly a bit more serious than the canon show. While it’s still comedy, it would be much less cartoonish, and generally fit in with the rest of the MCU a little easier.
In relation to Mobius:
Mobius’s crisis of faith would be a long time coming. Throughout the show we see him hesitate more and more to do as the TVA asks, and have an increasingly harder time justifying their actions. Learning that the whole thing is a lie is simply the tipping point that drives him to act.
In his confrontation with Renslayer he’d be a lot more driven/succinct. If he wants the TVA to burn then he wants the TVA to burn. He sees the wrongness in it’s entirety and attempts to convince Renslayer the same thing. When it’s clear that she is unreachable/ still sure of her mission, they come to an impasse. They each threaten to prune the other, parallel and matched on opposite sides of their belief. Ultimately though, neither can go through with it, and (if we’re sticking mostly with the canon ending) she leaves through a time door to who knows when to search for who knows what and Mobius and B15 regroup.
In relation to the other Loki’s:
I’m still on the fence how many Loki’s would be played by Tom, but I think the answer is, if not almost all, then at least more than we got.
Each Loki should read as distinctly Loki in essence. Less comic easter eggs and more focus on understanding the established canon character. Even greater in this scene though is the focus on the theme of choice. If there’s time we could learn what choices led up to each variant being apprehended, and see just a bit of how they feel about it. It’s about how our choices dictate who we become, rather than pre-set paths of completely separate realities and lives to our Loki’s.
I love Classic Loki’s speech about how it’s their destiny to play a certain part and if they try and change it the TVA stops them. I’d like our Loki, while conflicted about if he can truly change, to be motivated to try and finally brake the chains that have always restricted him (first his father, then Thanos, now the TVA). I also think here is where we could talk about how abrupt their end is ‘meant’ to be. That he was working on being better, that he had apparently helped his people and reconciled with his brother. That not only was his life cut short, but that the finality of that conclusion wasn’t truly the only way, but simply decided for him.
In relation to themes:
“What makes a Loki a Loki?” Is a question that should loom in the background of the whole series. Starting with Mobius’s interrogation when he’ll begin questioning his place in the universe and his understanding of himself, and ending with the finale confrontation with Kang where he’ll answer it.
“No one bad is ever truly bad, and no one good is ever truly good.” Is similarly something I think should have been a continued focus. Loki is considered a morally grey character and a chaos god, and thus none of his actions are black and white. Others may try and decide who he is at his core, but fundamentally the conclusion is not about deciding to be a hero, but deciding to be true to yourself and doing better.
“The banality of evil” in relation to the TVA. It’s clear from the first ten minutes of the actual show that the TVA is corrupt, unjust, and unnatural in their cleansing of the multiverse… so lean into it! I’m not necessary talking about changing much here, just that the narrative framing displays their actions as deplorable as they are.
“Glorious Purpose” is um… not something I think needed to be the main focus here. I might be biased because I buy into the theory that “you were made to be ruled” “freedom is life’s greatest lie” and “I am burdened with glorious purpose” are messages that have been somewhat impressed upon him rather than beliefs he came to realize on his own, but I do think it was somewhat oversimplified and overused in the series.
You are the writer of your own story. This is the message I expected the show to end with, and it’s what I’m personally trying to convey through these musings. This story ends with Loki taking back his destiny, forging a new one, connecting with himself and others and helping to free the timelines. He’s not the worst things he’s ever done, he’s not a villain, he’s not a benevolent hero. Loki is just Loki, Sylvie is just Sylvie, and you are just you, whoever we decide to be (that was cheesy I’m sorry).

how do you imagine a classic! Sigyn?
Tumblr media
This is for the Loki Series, so first and foremost; faceclaim, Emma Thompson because we deserve it
@jonquilclegane also suggested Adjoa Andoh or Michelle Yeoh, both of whom are wonderful alternatives
This Sigyn would be the most like he sacred timeline counter part
As I explained in my summary of the Loki Series: Episode 5, Classic Loki saved Classic Sigyn from Thanos by faking both their deaths
Sigyn was furious as Loki for making her run while Loki argued it was the only way to keep them both alive challenging that Sigyn had already nearly gotten herself killed and it is not their destiny to save the universe
They spend a long time drifting through space and Sigyn starts to see his point of view
By sheer chance, they are able to find a planet where they can make a home for themselves
By even sheerer chance, Sigyn is not taken by the snap
They spend centuries on that little planet; their own slice of the universe to call their own, somewhere nobody knew their names
They spend that time working on their marriage, building back the trust they lost over the years
Still even though they have each other, it gets lonely
Loki misses his brother; Sigyn wants to see more of the universe and so they decide to leave
And then the TVA shows up
This Sigyn has lost much of the pretension of her younger self
That mask she spent centuries perfecting has now been thrown away, allowing her to be more of herself flaws and all
She unambiguous powerful and has a much lower tolerance for bullshit
But she's also grown more understanding and is willing to compromise while never losing her spine
She can turn on the Princess of Asgard air when called for, but her default is that older aunt who comes to Thanksgiving by herself and gives you a little wink when your parents are saying something kind of stupid to let you know she thinks it's dumb too
Except Classic Sigyn is married and she and Classic Loki have the healthiest relationship of all the Lokis and Sigyns in the void
She's grown to understand that just because you love someone, you can't lose sight of who you are and the sooner you figure that out, the happier you'll both be

What makes a Loki a Loki? It all might boil down to one simple thing: what color are they?
[Article contains spoilers to 'Loki' S01E05]
Take Alligator Loki, for example. He has horns, hangs out with all the other Lokis, and furthermore, is green. So...that makes him a Loki, right?
“The question is, ‘Is he really Loki? Or is he just green?’ Tom Hiddleston tells Marvel.com with a laugh. “It's such a funny question that [the Lokis] all bicker about. One thing about Loki is that Loki loves to be right. And they all have a different opinion about this alligator.”
Though he appears briefly at the end of Episode 4 of Marvel Studios’ Loki, “The Nexus Event,” Alligator Loki makes his grand debut in Episode 5, “Journey Into Mystery.” As Loki travels through the Void, along the way he’s aided by other Lokis, including Classic Loki, Boastful Loki, Kid Loki, and the crocodilian du jour, Alligator Loki. While all the former are obvious 100% Lokis, the jury’s still out on the latter who may or may not actually be an Alligator of Mischief.
A completely original Loki for the series, you won’t find Alligator Loki anywhere in the comic pages, so don’t bother looking. The idea to include the gator came from an early pitch meeting between Loki head writer Michael Waldron, and producers Steven Broussard and Kevin Wright.
Tumblr media
“We were talking about [how] we want to meet many different versions of Loki in this show,” Waldron explains. “I was just like, there should be an Alligator Loki. And it's like, well, why? Because he's green.”
If Alligator Loki doesn’t immediately become your favorite Loki, he more than likely wins you over by episode’s end, considering he bites off President Loki’s hand and then prays (in alligator) before the group heads off to find Alioth. All the while, though, the Lokis aren’t sure he’s even really a Loki — but he’s been with them long enough that they all just accept his status as a trickster. He has horns, after all! Besides, as Mobius points out in the episode, maybe lying about being a Loki is the most Loki-thing of all?
“It's so stupid, but it also makes total sense,” Waldron continues. “You almost have to take it seriously, like maybe he is [a Loki]? Why shouldn't there be an alligator version of Loki? For all we know, that's an alligator universe or whatever. It's just the sort of irreverent thing that, in this show, we play straight and make the audience take it seriously.”
And after a beat, Waldron adds: “I love that little guy.” Even Hiddleston has been bewitched by him too, commenting, “Very, very, very cute. I'm sure a cuddly companion for those lost Lokis.”

So I saw another person complaining that Sylvie was too perfect and just a Mary Sue. So lovingly, I thought I'd compile a list of mistakes that Sylvie makes.
1. Sylvie gets spotted by a little girl in France and then gives her candy. Getting spotted wasn't that big a deal, although it probably means that poor girl got pruned. Feeling bad about it might be why Sylvie gave her candy, but that candy is how they figured out which apocalypse she was hiding it. No candy, the TVA wouldn't have found her in time.
2. When Sylvie and Loki first meet at the end of Episode 2, she stops to taunt him with, "This isn't about you." Then she leaves the time door open long enough for him to follow her. Classic bad guy, taunt the hero mistake. Very Loki-like with the, I'm going to make it about me, moment, but not a good tactical move.
3. Not bringing her temp pad charger/spare temp pad. Look, Sylvie has to have been scavenging temp pads off of TVA agents for centuries so that she could keep hiding in apocalypses. I mean, did she only steal reset chargers off of them? So why does she only have the one temp pad that Loki steals off of her that also has a nearly dead battery? Where is her phone charger? Backup battery? Temp pad number 2? Never assault the TVA without a fully charged temp pad. Sylvie should really know this by now.
4. Not being powerful enough to enchant Loki. What kind of pathetic Mary Sue can't use her superpower no matter what the circumstances?
5. Getting blasted by the old lady in the trailer on Lamentis.
6. Falling asleep on the train. Loki could have abandoned her there. She only wakes up because he's loud, drunk, and singing. She could have slept through the end of the world and died an embarrassing death.
7. Sylvie is not a good enough fighter to handle some ordinary train guards. Loki at least, is drunk. What's Sylvie's excuse?
8. Once the temp pad is destroyed, Sylvie has no plan on what to do next. She needs Loki to help her come up with a way off Lamentis.
9. Needs Loki to keep a building from collapsing on her because she doesn't have insane magical powers.
10. Does not bother to make sure her opponent (Ravonna) is unarmed after defeating her. Just leaves her there with a weapon, allowing Loki to get pruned.
11. Is ready to give up when she gets to the void. She needs a Mobius pep talk and rescue to get her back looking for Loki.
12. Pushes Loki through the time door. After kissing Loki, she should have had her way with him because that really would have been the best way to shatter the Sacred Timeline.
And yeah, I'm not putting Killing He Who Remains on the list. Because freeing the universe from a genocidal tyrant and giving everyone free will is okay in my book.
Also, as a bonus, here are things Loki can do that Sylvie can't (at least as of Season 1).
1. Create illusions—even small ones like fireworks.
2. Create a duplicate of herself (I think this is the one thing in this list we don't see Loki do in Season 1, but it is one of his favorites).
3. Stop buildings from falling over with the power of his chest (seriously go back and watch that moment from Lamentis. He totally does it by thrusting his chest out at the falling building).
4. Teleport.
5. Conjure items, not even a tablecloth.
6. Make items disappear (i.e. the tempad on Lamentis).
7. Talk about her feelings.
So yes, these are silly lists. But I think it's worth pointing out that Sylvie really isn't a badass until the void. Sure she's done a very good job ambushing TVA agents up to this point, but she's also made mistakes. Yeah, she does very cool and impressive stuff by the end of the series. But she's by no means perfect. She loses hope several times and needs other people to encourage her to keep going. It's really the "I'm going to enchant Alioth" moment where Sylvie proves herself. Up until that moment, all of her plans have failed.
In fact, watching Sylvie fail, and wanting her to succeed, is key to Loki's growth. If it seemed like it was Sylvie's show and not Loki's, it's only because she was the one destined to fail so that Loki could be the best version of himself.

What initially drew you to the MCU?
Richard E. Grant: [Tom Hiddleston]… I jumped at it. He has an encyclopedic depth of knowledge of all things Norse and Loki, he was a walking, talking resource. You could ask him anything and he could explain everything with great articulation and he’s passionate about everything. He was very, very informed. So that made it a delight to do.
And taking that into consideration, Classic Loki is a variant. What direction did you take when tackling the role? Did you refer to the comics or take inspiration from Tom Hiddleston’s role?
Well, I was inspired by Tom and led entirely by what was scripted. I was very struck by the fact that, in one scene, I had to talk about not being the God of Mischief so much as being the God of Outcasts. I thought that that was the key to who he was in this episode, that he is very isolated by living immortally, and that he’s arrested by the TVA when he gives in to his need and desire to have human connection again.
My major disappointment was that I didn’t get to have muscles because in the Jack Kirby drawings and the original sixties comics, and certainly in the costume design that I was given with my face on it, I thought that I was going to be stepping into a muscle suit. I was born without any, so I was fairly rattled that I didn’t have that. I thought, “well, how am I supposed to fight as an Asgardian when I’ve got only my own muscles?” They said, “Don’t worry about that.” It did worry me, and it still worries me.
The costume still worked though, something that not many could pull off either. Was it fun getting into that or was the helmet as heavy as it looked?
The helmet is heavy, but more than anything, it was just very tight. But I was on it for such a short time, and it’s my job. So actors like to complain about things, but yeah, it was all fine and handleable. I so longed to be able to step into a muscle suit. I didn’t have to go to the gym. I’d have biceps and big shoulders, but that was not to be.
Well, really your Loki’s strength lies in his magic. What challenges did you face working in such a special effects-laden episode? Was there any tricks behind the scenes to help get you into the role and moments like the final face-off with Alioth?
Well, Alligator Loki looked like something made from three stuffed cushions that had been sewn together with a head and then a body and four little legs and a bit of a tail. So that was something that could either be dragged along next to us or thrown when it bit Loki’s hand off. But, otherwise, everything else had to be imagined. It’s the nature of your job that you have to use your imagination, so the magic is really what the CGI and the production designers come up with. The special effects were apparently extraordinary. I haven’t seen it, but I’ve seen stills, and it does look amazing.
It really does look amazing. But were the sets as complete looking as they did appear on screen? All the Lokis convened in the bowling alley and it just looks so impressive. What was it like to step onto a set like that?
The bowling alley set was all intact. Everything that you saw, we saw. When we were in the Void, we were on a football-sized landscape of grasses and mounds and things. But all those derelict ships and things that you see, we didn’t see any of that or the distance. It was all blue screen. So all that came afterward.
For the most part, all of the Lokis were there for you to interact with. What was it like getting to work together and expand upon this character fans have loved for so long?
Tom Hiddleston is the beginning, the middle, and the end of it all for me, so anything that Tom approved. If Tom felt that it was all right, and Kate [Herron, the director], who was so invested in it thought it was steering in the right direction, then I thought, oh, I must be doing something that they think is all right.
It’s a very odd thing when you come into a world that is so established, and then into a series that has been ongoing for episodes prior to your arrival, and then you leave. So you’re sort of parachuted in and then out of it. So you look for reassurance, and I suppose, some kind of stability from the people who are doing it all the time when you’re not. A bit like being a new person at school, thinking, have I got the right uniform on? Am I going in the right place or do the right things? It’s fear-filled at the beginning for me from that point of view.
As you mentioned, it’s a challenge bringing a new character into an established world, but Classic Loki really did make his mark. Do you think he really found his “Glorious Purpose” in sacrificing himself?
Yeah, helping [Loki and Sylvie was] the thing he was meant to do. Making that ultimate sacrifice.
You spoke earlier about working with Tom Hiddleston. Some cast members have mentioned his “Loki Lectures” on set, were you one of the lucky listeners and if so, how did it help you get into the head of the God of Mischief?
I did. Tom came and saw me on the first day that I worked, and I think he spoke almost nonstop for about two hours in sharing all his knowledge and wisdom about playing Loki. So it was incredibly helpful and useful. That was like an introduction into this universe from the man himself. That’s never happened to me before, and then I had that privilege of being in a situation like that. I’m very grateful for it.

Every Me, Every You
Written for @kimmycupcreates' Lokius Bingo Square: Hurt/Comfort
Rating: G
Summary: Loki has his first heart-to-heart with the man who wears Mobius' face.
"Hey."
Startled out of his reverie, Loki blinked owlishly at the Analyst crouching in front of him.
Loki stared at the proffered cup.
He must have stared at it too long for the next thing he knew, Mobius was physically grabbing Loki's hand and wrapping Loki's fingers around the cup.
It's just tea," Mobius cajoled him into taking a sip. "It'll help."
Loki obliged. The tannic tea scorched the back of his throat and burned his empty stomach. He did not remember the last time he ate anything.

"Loki didn't you say your name was?" Mobius asked gently.
"One of them, yeah," Loki said in a voice so soft Mobius must have thought he had misheard and then naturally felt the need to ask,
"How many names do you have?"
Loki did not immediately answer. Any version of Mobius was bound to be just as inquisitive.
"You used to know all of them," he finally whispered.
Trickster God.
God of Mischief.
God of Lies.
(Mischievous Scamp)
"You really don't remember?" Loki asked.
"Remember what?"
Who, Loki corrected silently.
"Me," he mouthed.
A silence followed, thick and uncomfortable.
"I think I'd remember having met someone like you," Mobius said dryly. A smile, soft and crooked, tugged on his moustached lips.
It offered no comfort, the smile, seizing Loki's heart instead ike a clamp made of ice.
It was the same smile Mobius had given him when they said their goodbye up on that little hill in the Void.
"I don't want to forget you," Mobius had said.
Loki should have known better than making promises on someone else's behalf but he couldn't help it, "You won't."
"However this is gonna end, good or bad…"
Mobius had touched his cheek like he was the most precious thing, had looked at him like they were never going to see each other again. "I really don't see an outcome where I don't forget you."
Stupid Mobius. The Norns had the tendency to grant wishes made without thinking, fears spoken out loud, curses cast in the heat of the moment...they were cruel like that.
Loki closed his eyes tightly. It would not do for this Mobius to see his tears, they were not meant for him.
"Hey, hey," Loki heard and felt the man abandon his crouching position to sit right next to Loki, even lean back against the same filing cabinet -
"Are you okay?"
The concern in the agent's voice made the tears flow even faster, and Loki almost choked trying to stop them and breathe at the same time.
The weight of the hand on Loki's back was cruelly familiar. "Are you hurt anywhere?"
"No," Loki croaked.
Why did this Mobius have to be just as caring? Loki did not deserve it, not then, and certainly not now. His mistake was too great, his failure too fatal.
"I don't know how to fix this, Mobius," he confessed. He was aware just how much his voice trembled but he could not, for the life of him, quell the terror inside.
"What have we done?" he whispered in agony. "Sylvie…"
"Is that who you've lost? Sylvie?" Mobius probed. "Who is that, your partner? Friend?"
Loki's eyes filled again. "Everyone." I've lost everyone.
His Mother. Sylvie. Classic Loki, who had survived for so long only to die in vain, sacrificing his life for a false cause.
"Mobius."
At the spilling of his name, the agent straightened in renewed interest. "Yes?"
"Not you," Loki murmured. "The other you."

"Right," the doppelganger said quietly. "Your Mobius."
Loki stiffened, his face stunned.
The man shrugged.
"You...have this look on your face." A hesitant pause of a breath. "Is there something I can do?"
Loki let out a sob. If he had been uncertain before, that one simple question clinched it.
This was not his Mobius.
His Mobius would have gathered Loki in his arms, and pressed his lips to a spot just above Loki's ear where his moustache tickled the least.
His Mobius would have run his hand up and down the outer of Loki's arm to ward off the chill he could feel settling in his bones, something he had brought back with him from the Void.
His Mobius would say his name, very, very gently, "Loki."
Loki shuddered. He was hearing things. He must be losing it.
"Loki, it's okay," the man said soothingly, this man who wore Mobius' face, emanated Mobius' scent, radiated Mobius' heat - "We'll figure things out."
"I don't know how, but we'll get there." The hand on Loki's back lifted, only to be replaced by someone's arm tentatively encircling his shoulders. "We'll get you home."
I don't have it, Loki almost said. But that was a lie, wasn't it?
Somewhere out there, there must be someone waiting for him.
A surge of unbearable longing stirred in the pit of Loki's stomach, and unthinkingly, he leaned into the embrace.
It shamed him to the core to admit it, but maybe this alternate universe he had been thrown into was not so bad after all.
And maybe, just maybe...for this very, very brief moment in time, whatever 'time' meant anymore, he could pretend that Mobius had returned to him just as he promised.
"Thank you."

would everything be different today?
characters/pairings: thor and loki, loki/mobius
fandom: marvel cinematic universe
rating: general
word count: 3913
warning: canon character death
summary: Prior to Loki's arrest, Thor attempts to save them and is arrested by the TVA himself. And sure, he doesn't understand much of this institution, but he's pretty sure this Mobius has taken a liking to his younger sibling. (pre-canon, thor pov)
(still obsessing over loki, who’s surprised? no one! half of this fic was written at 2am when i was Not sober, my beloved Cat / @howgodforgives read it for me tho because they’re perfect!! 💖 this is an au... supposed to happen pre-canon... inspired by this post and this post, i love them too much and simply mashed the 2 concepts together so ya. enjoy ??)
read on ao3
Thor thought he could just do one thing. And when Steve revealed his plan about utilizing their time traveling device, just one last time, the offer his friend came with for him to go back was something he had to.
He had a chance to save Loki.
Now, he knows this is far from thought out, far from logical, and Thor never told Steve when he himself was traveling to. They trusted each other, Avengers and all.
Thor knows he could save their mother, too, if he wanted, but perhaps grief was clouding his vision because he’s simply lost too many, and he’ll be damned if he’d let Loki slip away from him after everything they’ve been through.
They were making progress… weren’t they?
It surely couldn’t be another one of his tricks, and although Thor has been naive in the past, he simply can’t lose her. Not now. Not yet.
And so he goes back for them, and he gets there, he’s on the ship, Heimdall and Loki and Valkyrie and Korg and  Thanos  , and Thor’s never been prone to irrational anger, he  tries , but everything happening all over again in such an overwhelming way nearly has sparks jumping from eyes and fingertips.
Thor is so close. And then he isn’t.
He can’t comprehend what happens, but he’s out of time, out of place, and he’s in what resembles most those office buildings he’s seen so many of Midgard. Being crammed in an elevator with these strange people gave him eerie flashbacks to Sakaar, until he’s finally greeted by a significantly short human, brown suit, silver hair and moustache and a lop-sided grin.
Naturally, Thor smiles back in the midst of his confusion, it’s only good manners, you hear.
“Ah!” the man exclaims, patting his elbow with the other hand guiding him forward, “The god of thunder himself! Mighty pleasure to make your acquaintance.”
He nods, following, unsure still what’s going on. But Thor’s made too many enemies of a human lifetime, a long time ago, and he wouldn’t want to get on these humans’ bad side, even though they technically kidnapped him… peculiar.
If Loki was here, they’d probably have their knife ready at lightning speed. Classic Loki.
“Well, thank you! I wish I could say the same, but I’m not sure… where I am,” Thor answers. This really does look like an office, one the Midgardians had a decade or so, probably, before they updated themselves. Modernization, that’s what it’s called, silly humans.
“Fair is fair,” the grey haired human turns to him, “Welcome to the Time Variance Authority, TVA for short! I think I speak for everyone here when I say we’re excited to have you here.”
The man chuckles, and Thor doesn’t know if it’s to himself or directed towards him, until the human shrugs. There’s still two of those persons with weaponry and strange glowing devices on either side of them, and it seems his new acquaintance realises the need for explanation.
“Well, technically, you’re not staying as much as… you’re under arrest,” he then says, smile turning hesitant and scratching his cheek.
Arrest?!
That’s certainly a surprise, given human laws don’t really apply to his own kind. Of course, Avenging has different rules and such… but alas.
It seems his new friend notices his eyes widen, significantly, “But don’t worry, buddy! You’re a special case, of course.”
Thor stammers, he always feels a certain embarrassment over himself when this happens, “May I- may I ask for what offense? I don’t mean to offend, these quarters are quite splendid, but Midgard and Asgard operate different-”
“Oh no,” the man interrupts, keeping a quick pace, “I’m afraid this isn’t Midgard, big guy. The TVA, we, well, control all of time!”
The guards escorting them, they must be guards, stop at the same time Thor stops in pure shock. His father never mentioned anything like this. Is this part of the nine realms? He wonders who these people are, if not human. They surely cannot be gods?
“You control… time?”
“Exactamundo! The sacred timeline, to be precise. Let me show you,” his new acquaintance guides him further with that, until they reach a strangely void room, a single table, pair of chairs and some sort of machine the only things in sight. One of those Midgardian ‘computers’?
And when he’s seated (the chair isn’t quite built for a god of his stature, but he shouldn’t complain, politeness is key, of course), this strange man shows him what appears to be a video. A video of… his life. Thor’s life, that is.
This is absurd. “How do you know this? What-”
“We know everything, buddy,” the man tells him, shuts down the device, grin sheepish, “It’s in the job description, you see?”
Thor doesn’t know what to think, rather, his mind feels somehow numb.
He was just with Loki, she was there, within his grasp, then… this. Thor also doesn’t know how long he sits staring at his acquaintance in confusion until another thought dawns upon him, “Do you have Steve Rogers, too?”
The grin lessens, mouth forming a small o, but the man nods once, “Ah, yes, another department. You two sure know how to cause trouble, huh?”
So he gets an answer, but it leaves him none the wiser, or clearer headed, or understanding. It rather feels like those sort of outlandish dreams children have, like he had when he was younger.
But what can he do? Just face this head-on?
Thor wonders if Heimdall can see him right now. Not… his Heimdall, another Heimdall, who might be alive. A Loki who might be alive, if he can save them.
“May I ask one more question of you, uh…”
“Mobius M. Mobius, at your service.”
“Ah,” he replies, and hesitantly smiles back at the grin he receives, “Then why am I here? This  department , I mean?”
The stranger, Mobius, chuckles. It’s short handed and with the professionalism of those Midgardian businessmen with replicated suits and briefcases and phones chiming them down. Is this Mobius even human? More Asgardian?
“We’re in need of assistance, you might say,” he finally answers, and turns to power up the machinery once more, “And I, for one, have a feeling you might be invaluable for the cause.”
*
Although Thor is not sure he yet understands everything in this strange world he’s now come into, this new friend, Mobius, is very educational, and while the thought of being arrested wasn’t all too pleasing, apparently, they wished for him to work for them, instead.
His offence, that’s yet another thing he still doesn’t understand. Thor wasn’t aware of this, uh, this  Sacred Timeline , as they call it. Surely a god of his status should’ve been told, shouldn’t he?
He comes to wonder if their father ever knew about this.
Thor is fairly sure about one thing, that Odin wouldn’t possibly have told them, had he had that knowledge. And what about Hela?
But he quickly learns not to think about this too much, and he counts about three Asgardian weeks in the TVA, although he has no idea how time works  here , at all. Mobius always says it’s too complicated to explain, maybe he thinks Thor wouldn’t understand.
Loki always said he was as dumb as a doornail. But she never meant it out of spite, he reasons, surely, they’ve always had that sense of humor between the two of them. He loves Loki very much, even when she lets him down. He only hopes his younger sibling feels the same.
Speaking of Loki, that is another thing Thor learns in this weird world- uh, city? Country? Timeline? The TVA is its own thing entirely.
But what he learns, much like his whole life, is that his destiny will forever and always be tied to Loki, and Loki’s to his. Because his new friends at the TVA hired him to find, and catch, his younger sibling and bring them in for a similar crime to his own.
Although he’s also  killing people in the process, Mobius explains much to Thor’s horror, and he’ll have to make sure Loki’s not hurt when he finds him, and ask him why this bloodshed is necessary. Again.
Of course, there must be a good reason as to why she’s doing it, he had a good reason to mess with the timeline himself, he must say, and Loki is incredibly clever, his younger sibling’s grand scheme must be extraordinary. He just wishes she wouldn’t hurt other people in the process, they’ve been over this, but she was getting better!
As Mobius put it, “You know them better than anyone, pal, I’ve got a hunch you’re the only one who can find out where they’re hiding. Well, besides themselves.”
Yes, Thor was not certain this was a good idea.
He traveled back in time to  save his younger sibling, not cause him even more pain. But Mobius seems somewhat trustworthy, and very polite. He assured him justice would be served fairly, and even a lesser punishment considering the help he himself provides!
Sometimes, Thor has to follow his gut. Loki always hated this trait of his.
This work proves tricky, and tedious, and of course, his sibling is sneaky and manages to escape the TVA time and time again, and if they would just bring Thor with them, surely, he could talk to her. Not apprehend her, but  communicate . Not everyone here trusts him as much as Mobius, though, regrettably.
What is curious about his new friend, and Thor’s spent a few nights now racking his brain about this, is that some of the questions he’s posed about Loki are quite specific.
They must be important for the case, he figures.
Just a week ago, hunched over files and files of timeline lingo and alternate futures that Thor has several conflicting emotions about reading, the grey haired man looked up from his scribbles and met his eye.
“Say, Thor,” he started, scratching his chin and twirling the pen in his hand, “Loki ever tell ya what they fancy for dinner?”
And the god had to blink, shuffling the papers. Did he hear it correctly?
“Dinner?”
“I mean, humans, they have favorite foods, you know? Like, preferences,” he chuckled, “I only assume Asgardians are similar?”
Thor smiles as he does when in situations where he doesn’t understand what’s going on, but simple curiousity never hurt anyone. This person’s strange, stranger than the Avengers, but he loved them all the same. “Of course. Loki’s very fond of goat. Herring, too, and our mother’s apple pie.”
Mobius nodded with a grin, and spoke no more of the subject, until two days later (Thor  thinks  it was two days, as mentioned before, time here confuses him profusely), where his friend inquired him about his younger sibling’s eye color.
They’re blue, clearly.
More muted than Thor’s own, but never grey, although some of these files have wrongly informed otherwise.
Really, this interest Mobius reveals in his younger sibling doesn’t faze him at first, but he’s thinking about it more and more often, as it turns out. And today, when the suited man asks him if Loki might be interested in water sports, it only sends Thor further into the obyss of confusion.
Firstly, he’s not sure what these water sports entail. Second, although he doesn’t doubt Mobius is a reasonable man, what does this have to do with arresting Loki?
“Forgive me,” Thor replies, “What are, uh… water sports?”
“Oh, yes! Sorry, big guy. Ya know, jetskis are quite fun for humans and otherwise. Diving, too. You think Loki would like that sort of thing?”
The god finds himself worrying his lip with little answer to the peculiar question. “Perhaps. They love adventures, you see, that’s a thing we have in common. You think Loki’s hiding somewhere, with, uh… jetskis?”
The grey haired man shrugs. Quite strange.
Then his friend continues as they walk along the hall, past several hunters and seemingly high security offices, “She must like jokes, right?”
“Oh, of course.”
Mobius laughs, “I figured,” and his smile isn’t aimed at Thor, but somewhere into the open air, distant and unexplainably fond, “God of Mischief, pranks in his blood. I’m not too bad myself.”
“Huh?”
When the shorter man opens the door for him, he shrugs again, “Sorry, buddy, this way. I mean, they’re incredibly witty. Don’t need to tell you that, I get it. I heard this joke from a Variant, I think they might like that one. You know it? So once there was-”
And so Mobius continues on, the joke must be brilliant, he’s already wheezing to himself, but now, the god’s pretty sure he understands.
Oh.
Oh.
Thor’s not as stupid as Loki claims, you see. And he has to say, he knows courtship when he sees it.
*
Does Thor understand why his younger sibling- or, a version of her, regardless, is hiding out in historic  apocalypses ? No, there’s not much logic in this, but it’s certainly in no way surprising.
Loki’s got a knack for adventures and danger simultaneously, after all.
But when he realises what Loki’s doing, he simply has to go, even if his moustached friend isn’t sure how to clear it with the TVA, or if it’s breaking the rules, but isn’t this what they assigned the god to do in the first place?
This is his younger sibling. Loki’s alive. And Thor, well, like he’s done all his life, and like Loki’s done all their life, one must always follow the other, at one point or the other. It’s fate, he decides.
And he finds him,  finally , after what feels as hundreds of millions of human years and even longer of their own, in the human city of Pompeii.
Loki isn’t exactly pleased to hear the TVA coming, that much is obvious from his face, but Thor is alone, and it’s only a matter of time before Mobius arrives, so Thor must find a chance to talk to his sibling alone.
And his sibling’s face changes from the expectant grin of a plan to kill the minutemen when they arrive to a gaping mouth in shock. Then realisation. Then frustration.
“Loki!”
And the god of mischief groans, exasperated and loud, the screams of the civilians barely fazing them, “Thor.”
It’s a matter of time, then, because they don’t  have much time before they’ll be sunken into the ground they’re standing on, and like Thor first started out his adventure in the Sacred Timeline, his first thought is to get Loki out of there.
It’s his first priority, to keep her safe. There’ll be no death. Not today. Not again.
His younger sibling has their eyes on the volcano as well, their many differences being so in sync at the strangest of times, and before Thor can even think about it, Loki reaches for his arm and they’re teleported somewhere- and some… when? else entirely.
It’s eerily quiet here, a distant rumble from the sky. Rocks as far as he can see. Darkness, besides bolts of lightning striking into the ocean before them, and blinking lights distantly behind them.
And here Loki is; a Variant like himself, as Mobius called it. Breathing.
“Why is it,” she nearly yells, clutching the strange device in her hand and giving Thor that familiar glare of destruction, “You always find a way, somehow,  anywhere, to ruin my perfect plan, brother? How? How are you here, you damn fool!?”
The insult is as it always is, and Loki looks like his blood might nearly boil over, but Thor just can’t help it.
He feels the tears in his eyes before they even fall. “Loki.”
“What-”
It’s only a small handful of times in all the centuries they’ve lived that he’s managed to stun his sibling into silence, a loss of words. This is another incident to add to the list.
Thor grips on so tight, he never wants to let go.
He can’t remember the last time they hugged, actually. It might’ve been when they were children.
Loki pats on his back, after a minute or two, and a breath of annoyance and… something else sounds at the same time as his own staggering breathing. His sibling’s never returned his hugs, you see, but she’s doing it now. At least, Thor surely wouldn’t mistake her holding onto him, albeit not as tightly as himself.
They sigh, “What has gotten into you now, you idiot?”
Thor laughs. It’s strained, but it feels  good. That one, that’s a thing he’s missed. Loki will surely think he’s lost his mind, but there’s nothing he’d rather do right now than listen to him call him the crudest things they could think of.
It feels like coming back home.
“You’re alive,” Thor whispers.
Loki huffs. “You’ve fallen for my fake death, huh? You fall for it every time.”
He shakes his head in response, knowing his sibling won’t be able to see it, but ultimately lets go, and just looks at them. He smiles. Weirdly, hesitantly, confusedly, Loki smiles back.
“You’re an idiot,” she tells him again, but it’s softer this time.
“Where have you taken us?” Thor asks instead, and the answer is for once a place he knows of, “This is Midgard, brother, but way after the humans. In about an hour, it’ll be nothing but dust.”
That’s a frightening thought, he decides. He’s already seen Asgard in ruins.
And Thor has to take him somewhere safer, before Mobius arrives. They can’t go back to the TVA without some explanation, Loki deserves that.
His sibling seems severely surprised when he uses his own device, and a protest begins, of course, but Thor finds the right time, in Asgard, and jumps them both to it. Before their mother’s death. They’ll have to steer clear of the past versions of themselves, and their parents, and anyone else, considering Loki was imprisoned, but they’ll be safe.
And easy to spot.
“Now is not a time for a homecoming, Thor,” she tells him, already pulling up the device.
“Loki, no,” he reaches out, and Loki reaches for their knife, classic Loki, “Give me time to explain, before they come.”
He rolls his eyes but doesn’t raise the knife, “You’re not taking me to the TVA, brother.”
Thor blinks. He almost wants to rewind time on that little screen in his hand, to make sure he heard them right, but stranger things have happened. “You know about the TVA?”
“Of course I do, you buffoon. Who do you think I’m running from?”
He bites his tongue. Oh.
Thor has to shrug. Loki sighs again.
“I know, I know, they’ll arrest me for crimes against the  Sacred Timeline  ,” they say, in an overly dramatic voice and throwing around their hands in flourish, “I can’t believe they got you to help them. I can’t believe  you found me.”
It feels quite like the good, old days, as Stark used to say. “I know you, Loki, even if you don’t think I do.”
They both settle into silence, and this is also strange, but the smile he gets in return, less confused and more nostalgic and… safe, it makes it worth it.
Then, the device in Thor’s hand beeps, and he lets his sibling look at it, and he looks all the more annoyed again.
“Guess I’ll have to surrender now, because of you,” she grumbles, for once, not searching for an escape route, “Who’s leading, anyway? B-15?”
Thor pats his shoulder, in what he hopes conveys comfort. “I’m not familiar, unfortunately. This leader is named Mobius.”
His sibling frowns, but shrugs non committedly, “A new face, then.”
It’s not very often Thor sees Loki in this state, confusion, if ever. His younger sibling’s always been one step ahead of them, two, even, himself struggling to keep up. That’s why he’s always had to watch out for them, before… before the Avengers.
“He seems very interested in you,” he chuckles, and when Loki only frowns deeper, he has to explain his ongoing suspicion, “He’s asked me a great many questions about you. I believe he admires you very much. Even more than myself.”
“So he’s a fan,” Loki says - ignoring the last statement of his, of course, but Thor knows she heard it.
“I’d say more than a fan,” he decides to be honest, and Loki’s brows furrow. Thor pats his sibling’s shoulder once more, “He holds, it seems, similar feelings to when I was courting Lady Jane.”
Loki looks like a giant question mark. “I beg your pardon?”
But they’re interrupted, as per usual. The answer Thor wants out doesn’t get out before Mobius steps out of the time portal, and grins at them both. He seems to hold his gaze at his sibling a little bit longer. His demeanor’s calm, as if… recognition. Coming back home.
And Loki stares back at their brother, eyes wide and brows raised, tilting her head, “This is the Mobius who wants to… court me?”
Thor nods. Loki’s mouth turns upwards to a grin, mischief absent from his face. And even if they’ll deny it if Thor mentions it, his younger sibling’s eyes hold a certain warmth when they look back at the stranger. “I see.”
*
Many great strange things have happened in what seems a short amount of time, but Thor’s put out of work at the TVA, and his sibling’s put to work instead, and Mobius tells him they’ll  reset  him.
“Don’t worry, big guy, it doesn’t hurt,” he chuckles, adjusting his tie, “Your friend Steve had the same deal. Wouldn’t call it punishment, but it’s subjective. You did good work, ya know.”
Loki’s sat at Mobius’ now abandoned desk, one hand on a stack of case files, her eyes meeting with Thor’s own. They’re used to goodbyes, as you can tell. And emotions aren’t exactly their strongest suit.
But his sibling nods to him. The smile has no hints of sarcasm, so he counts it as a win. As progress.
Thor doesn’t know if he can stop worrying, after all. He’ll always do it, and what if he, another version of himself, tries to go back in time again?
Loki’s the only family he has left. But at the same time, his younger sibling is right.
The sun will shine on us again. In another timeline, another universe, he figures. For now, Thor will have to let go, but they’ll always be connected after all. Thor and Loki couldn't be more different, but somehow the same.
“She’ll be safe here?” he asks, because he  has to, “You’re certain?”
Mobius smiles, like he’s heard it a million times before, “I promised you. I keep my promises, Thor.”
Of course. Of course. It’ll be fine. He’ll be fine.
“You ready?” his suited friend then asks, and he hesitantly nods.
“Ready as I’ll ever be.”
The man nods back, and the device in his hand lights up. The seconds seem excruciatingly long, but he’s got to get back, get moving, even without his younger sibling beside him. It’s a comforting thought, knowing there’s many more of them out there, in other timelines, following each other over and over again, as they’re meant to.
“Thank you, by the way,” Mobius then says, strangely enough, as the beams become stronger and the seconds count down. He winks before holding it out to Thor, a gesture for the reset to be complete, “For bringing them back to me.”
