The Gilded Age's Broadway Divas: Mrs. Bruce (Celia Keenan-Bolger)
Despite having a largely underdeveloped Downstairs role in The Gilded Age, Mrs. Bruce runs the Russell household like a tight ship. From averting near-disastrous soup escapades, to catching escaped dogs in the dusty streets, she approaches her job with no-nonsense competence, all while totally unable to reach the high shelves.
Tumblr media
For the first time, Celia Keenan-Bolger (45) has broken free of her child typecast cage to play a fully grown adult with adult responsibilities and it must be such a thrill for her. Those unfamiliar with Celia may not be aware of her illustrious career playing children on Broadway as a grown adult.
In 2005, Celia (26) made her Broadway debut in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee as twelve-year-old Olive Ostrovsky, a precocious spelling bee contestant who should have won, dammit, and I'll die on that hill. In 2011, she (31) played thirteen-year-old Molly Aster in Peter and the Starcatcher, nominated for a Tony the same year as her brother Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Newsies). In 2018, she (40) starred in To Kill a Mockingbird as six-to-nine-year-old Scout Finch, for which she won a Tony. This coming spring, Celia (46) will once again be a child on Broadway as she takes on the role of Jessica Lange's teenaged daughter in Mother Play. (List non-exhaustive)
#1: "Green Finch and Linnet Birds," Sweeney Todd (2002)
youtube
In one of her earliest professional roles, Celia (24) takes on sixteen-year-old Johanna Barker, the daughter of the titular Sweeney Todd, who has become Judge Turpin's ward. This is not great for her. But the role was. Too often, this particular song gets the short end of the stick. It's long, slow, and very high, yet Celia approaches it with a controlled vibrato that makes us all sigh in relief.
The Kennedy Center production featured a fantastic cast, including Mary Beth Peil as The Beggar Woman, Broadway's Leading Man Brian Stokes Mitchell as Sweeney Todd, and our very own Agnes van Rhijn, Christine Baranski as Mrs. Lovett.
#2: The Light in the Piazza - Pre-Broadway (2003)
youtube
Before Kelli O'Hara took on the role of Clara Johnson, a young woman whose mental development stunted at age twelve after being kicked by a horse, the role belonged to Celia Keenan-Bolger (25). Ultimately, when the production moved on from Chicago, the creative team decided they wanted a Clara who was a little older. Kelli, who had been playing Francesca, the sister-in-law, was unwilling to "steal" a role from someone she considered a dear friend, but either way, Celia was out, so Kelli was in with minimal damage to their friendship, which persists today.
However. Some years later, when South Pacific was auditioning their Nellie Forbush actresses, the final three came down to Kelli O'Hara (who got it), Celia Keenan-Bolger, and Victoria Clark, who won a Tony for playing Margaret, Clara's mother, in Piazza. Talk about awkward.
#3: "The I Love You Song," The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee (2005)
youtube
Losing out on Clara wasn't all thunderclouds for Celia (26). Shortly after, she landed a role in the off-Broadway production of Spelling Bee, and when it transferred to Broadway, she received her first Tony nomination.
In this scene, Olive sings the most heartbreaking and beautiful number in the entire show. It is just devastating. Up until this point, the show is a barrel of laughs, and then suddenly you're sobbing your eyes out over a lonely little girl in a bad home situation.
Will Celia Keenan-Bolger ever be allowed to play an adult again? How long until she is no longer able to play children? How did she get the role of Mrs. Bruce if she's only allowed to play kids? All questions we have no answers to.

Deep dive #2: Jessica Biel’s relationships timeline and all the interconnections
| Adam LaVorgna | Chris Evans | Justin Timberlake |
Disclaimer: This is done for fun. No hate, no drama, just some Hollyweirdness. It’s not a detailed timeline but more like key moments with some fun or surprising connections and anecdotes (to me at least). It’s just not possible to do one boyfriend timeline without mentionning another one. No famous people won’t be mentionned, neither most tabloids speculations. People already twist things, so it can’t be worse (right?). And please don’t judge my english.
Spring 1997: During the interview with All-Stars Magazine, 15 years old JessicaBiel shared that she only had two "sort of" boyfriends, both of whom were 17.
All-stars: In real life, do you ever date older guys? Jessica: I don’t really date very many people. I’ve had two boyfriends kind of! Both of them have been 17, so they’re usually older.
Spring 1998: 16 years old Jessica Biel is filming her second movie “I’ll be Home for Christmas” with Jonathan Taylor Thomas in Alberta and Vancouver, Canada. She met Adam LaVorgna who play the bad boy Eddie, they start dating while filming the movie. Even thought Adam is not very well known, he has been acting since he is 10. Nsync’s christmas song was used during the end credit of the movie. FYI The movie is available on Disney+.
"I knew when I first met [Jessica] there was something there. We did a movie together called I'll Be Home for Christmas. As soon as I saw her, I thought I'm definitely going to date this girl. There's no way she's getting away from me. It'll be three years in April." - Teen Magazine, March 2001
youtube
April 1, 1999: On The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Jessica said that Adam Lavorgna was her first real boyfriend. She said he is very smart and go to Avon Old Farms high school in Connecticut.
“First guy named Adam, oh oh trouble trouble” - Jay Leno
youtube
August 12, 1999: Jessica Biel and Adam Lavorgna did their first red carpet together at Barry Watson’s movie premiere "Teaching Mrs.Tingle". From what I have seen, it was Adam’s first red carpet of his career.
Tumblr media
Fall 1999: 7th Heaven producers were looking for an actor to play Jessica’s character Mary Camden boyfriend and asked her if she had any suggestion. She suggested her then boyfriend Adam. His first appearance as Robbie Palmer in 7th Heaven was in season 4, Episode 10 aired on November 29, 1999. When the producers first called his team, they refused it without talking to Adam. He had to call them to tell them to accept it. He didn’t care for the show but just wanted to be with Jessica and make easy money. Adam shared that story on the Worst Ever Podcast in 2019.
Tumblr media
January 2000: Lance Bass from Nsync guest-starred in 7th Heaven as Rick Palmer (Adam LaVorgna character’s brother). He appeared in season 4 episode 13 that aired on January 30, 2000.
I have a friend who worked for a publicist for some of the actors on The WB, such as [”7th Heaven” star] Beverley Mitchell and the people from ”Popular.” So I was having dinner with her and Beverley, and Beverley was talking about how she wanted a boyfriend this season, and I said, ”I’ll do it!” and she was like, ”Okay!” Source: Entertainment Weekly, January 2000
Tumblr media Tumblr media
So of course while filming that episode Jessica was asked by Enews about Nsync. She said she knew about them but don’t own any of their CDs and they shared their differents experiences.
“Hum but I mean cool, I guess” - Jessica Biel about NSYNC

And also Justin Timberlakeand the Nsync guys watching that 7th Heaven episode during a MTV interview.
Tumblr media
March 2000: Jessica did the scandalous Gear Magazine photoshoot. (She quickly regretted doing that photoshoot and shared how horrible the experience was). Adam was not happy about it. There were some tensions between them while she was spending time with the interviewer.
During the time I spent with her, the Boyfriend (whom she asks not to name) is constant presence, though he’s more than 3,000 miles away in Boston. What he thinks  and how he’ll react take up a large portion of Jesse’s thoughts. He’s nervous at her being perceived as sex idol, and having a writer from men’s magazine spend several days with her is not helping. Over the course of those days, the phone keeps ringing - the Boyfriend - and it’s stressing her. [...] Jesse and I are supposed to hook up the first night I'm in L.A., and I wait for the phone to ring at my hotel room. It never does. [...] The next morning, we talk on the phone. It turns out Jesse had a big fight with the Boyfriend on the phone, and, no longer able to deal, she went to her friend's house and spent the night. And her cell batteries died because she'd been talking to him so long, and I'd given her my wrong cell number and…" Really, I wasn't trying to blow you off. Everything went wrong last night. Please don't think that I'm just some Hollywood jerk," she pleads. [...] She fields another call from her beau. It's an agitated conversation, and when she hangs up the air is very still. Jesse has a tendency to become quite serious - she says she thinks way too much and it's suddenly uncomfortable between us. He told her he's unhappy with the situation and doesn't want to talk to her until the writer is gone. The phone rings again. It's the Boyfriend - he's being a jerk, he tells her. Go ahead and have a great interview.Jesse smiles and the tension is gone. "That's so fucking cool of him." Gear Magazine, March 2000
Summer 2000: When it was time for Jessica to leave the show to attend college on the East Coast with Adam (Jessica at Tufts University and Adam at Boston College), the producers of 7th Heaven contacted Adam and offered him a regular role for Season 5. Adam agreed, dropped out of college to be in Los Angeles for filming, while Jessica, who needed a break, still went to college in Massachusetts.
With hindsight, Adam regretted accepting the offer because now he feels like the producers asked him to comeback for season 5 to hit back at Jessica for leaving the show. Jessica was still working on the show during her school break, only appeared in few episodes and her scenes were very brief. Contrary to what was said in the medias, Jessica was never fired from the show. Aaron Spelling made it clear she still had 2 years left in her contract. They destroyed her character thought.
(Read the deep dive about the photoshoot and Jessica Biel leaving the show here)
2000(?): Jessica Biel, Adam LaVorgna, Chris Evans and a group of friends attend a party all together!!

April 2001: Jessica Biel and Adam LaVorgna did a photoshoot together for Movieline Magazine. They denied dating. October 5, 2001: The Enquirer is reporting that Adam LaVorgna went to Promises rehab in Malibu for cocaine and Vicodin addiction.
The Enquirer is reporting that Jessica Biel's boyfriend and 7th Heaven co-star [Adam LaVorgna] checked himself into Promises rehab in Malibu after Jessica and the show's producers both gave the cocaine and Vicodin addict  an ultimatum. An insider told the taboid, "The cocaine and pills drastically  changed his demeanor." After the two talked him into rehab, he appears greatful as the friend added, "Right now he's thanking God for Jessica and the show's  producers. They saved his livelihood - and his life." Source: Jessica Biel Fansite
Adam revealed in the Worst Ever Podcast in 2019, he started drinking at 10/11yo and had Opioid addiction (and then maybe doing heroin, I didn’t understand exactly what he said). He went to rehab multiple times and the first two times were paid by 7th Heaven producer, Aaron Spelling.
In the interviews with Elle Magazine and Cosmopolitan in 2005, Jessica mentioned, without explicitly stating his name, that the relationship was not healthy. Also mentionned in the London (2005) movie behind the scene.
Everybody’s gone throught a relationship that’s not healthy for you. When I was 16, I cried my eyes out to Elvis’ “Cant’ Help Falling in Love” because I felt so in love that my heart was breaking apart.  Elle Magazine, 2005
He was lying to me and accusing me of cheating—but then I realized he was the one cheating. He was putting it on me and making me feel like shit... But then three years later, I was still with him. And then it finally just smacked me in the face and I was like I’m done. I’m over it. Cosmopolitan, 2005
October 10, 2001: Jessica Biel and Chris Evans did their first red carpet appearance at the wrap party of her movie “The Rules of Attraction”. Unless I'm wrong, Chris’ first red carpet of his career were also with Jessica. There is no information about how they met. In the interview with Animal Fair on January 2003, it is mentionned they were friends before dating. In Chris' workout video for Not Another Teen Movie, you can see Jessica in January 2002 commenting on the evolution of his body after filming the movie. They were not dating yet when he did the movie.
Jessica was back full time to L.A after one year at Tufts University. She did another semester later in 2002.
Tumblr media
Jessica is still under her 7th Heaven contract and is working daily with Adam LaVorgna on season 6. 7th Heaven showrunner who was still holding grudge against her, made Mary desperate to win Robbie back while he keep rejecting her.
Tumblr media
Before writing this post, I didn’t realize that it seems like Jessica and Adam never lived in the same state until they broke up.
Somehow Adam and Chris built a strong friendship for over 20 years. Adam was Chris plus-one at the 2016 Golden Globes. 💁‍♀️
Tumblr media
November 11, 2002: The last 7th Heaven episode starring Adam aired, season 7 episode 8. There were no official explanation of why Adam left, neither off screen nor on screen at that time. Adam later revealed in a interview with belief.net that the Hollywood life (easy money, barely working, drugs, partying) is not for him, he is unable to control him and left California for the East Coast. Neither Jessica, nor the cast ever mentionned his addiction.
Jessica’s initial contract being over after season 6, only apperared in 5 out of 22 episodes of season 7. They had only 2 episodes in common.
2002: Jessica and Chris shared the way they feel about their relationship
How is it dealing with a long-distance relationship? Well it’s not easy but I think we both feel really secure in our relationship and we’re making it happen. But it’s always tough. Source: Atnzone, 2002

January 31, 2003: Jessica Biel attended Justin Timberlake 22nd birthday party with Beverley Mitchell, her future husband Michael and a friend. Justin’s exes Br*tn*y Sp*ars and Alyssa Milano were also there. (Random fact: Adam and Alyssa families are very close, Adam call her “his cousin”)
youtube
Beverley Mitchell used to hang out a lot with the Nsync guys in the early 2000s. She participated at many of their Challenge For The Children charity events in Miami from 2000 to 2005. David Gallagher also took part of it. Beverley became pretty close to the guys. Joey Fatone also attended her wedding in Italy in 2008, and she was often seen with Lance Bass. Beverley shared during a recent podcast  with Lance Bass (@ 56min)  that she asked Jessica multiple times to come to thoses events and that she is unlike them actually good at basketball but she always refused.
During a podcast with Tia Mowry, Beverley revealed that Jessica used to tease her for hanging out with Nsync. Interviewer: At the time, was it just a coincidence that she was cast? Ellis: No. What happened was I knew Chris was going out with her, and I said, "Why don't you show this to Jess and see what she thinks. If she'd like to come do it, you guys could do something together, it'd be cute." Unknow interview, 2004

I can't imagine opening a magazine and reading about my heartache at the newsstand. I said, 'Let's not be seen at clubs being loud and obnoxious. Let's not go to premieres or parties. December 7, 2006: According US weekly and In Touch, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake were at Social Hollywood. It is kind of confirmed by Justin on his book.
When I met Jess, it was undeniable how beautiful she is. We were at a surprise party in Hollywood at a speakeasy kind of a bar, a private club, and we were standing around in a group of people. I made some sort of sarcastic comment, really dry. Nobody got it except her. She laughed, and I noticed, all of a sudden, and in the way where you wonder if a person’s like you, if they have a very dry, dark sense of humor, too. We talked that night. The DJ played “Lucky Star,” and we danced. And then she was gone. I didn’t ask for her number. It wasn’t the time. From Justin Timberlake book, Hindsight

My first show for the FutureSex/LoveSounds tour was in San Diego. A friend who also knew Jess was going to come to the show, and she asked me, “What if I was to bring a certain somebody?” I said, “I could be into that.” Patience may not be my strong suit but, apparently, playing coy is. My friend brought her to the show. They were with a whole crew of girls, and they all came into the dressing room and hung out. After the show, they were going to go back to LA, and I was going on to Anaheim. I asked them if they wanted to come with me. “I’ll give you a ride, you can come on my bus. If you want …” And they did. Jess and I talked the whole way up, joking around. Before she got off the tour bus, I said, “Can I have your number?” That was when we started talking on the phone. We didn’t date at first. For about two weeks, we talked on the phone, because I was on tour.
Then the Golden Globes came up, and that’s when we planned on seeing each other. From that moment on, we started dating. We were both still seeing other people, keeping « ourselves safe from getting hurt, from really putting ourselves out there. It took a bit for both of us to admit to ourselves that we were really, really that into each other.
From Justin Timberlake book, Hindsight

Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz, who announced last week that they’d split up, got into a heated argument at Prince’s Golden Globes afterparty early Tuesday morning. The exes, who’d chatted politely during the awards ceremony and even shared laughs at InStyle’s annual afterparty, hit the rough patch in their officially amicable breakup at a wee-hours bash hosted by the singer at the Beverly Wilshire hotel. According to witnesses, Timberlake was chatting with actress Jessica Biel when Diaz approached. Biel stepped away, and the former couple had a serious exchange. Diaz walked away, Timberlake followed, and the two were soon spotted engaged in an intense 40-minute face-off in a side room. Diaz reemerged looking composed, but not before Timberlake held his head in his hands and, says a witness, “slammed his fist (down) into a cabinet.” Source: People.com
The pair was continuing the touchy-feely flirtation begun earlier that night at the Creative Artists Agency-sponsored bash at Sunset Towers. And his ex-girlfriend Cameron Diaz couldn’t help but stare. “Cameron was across the room giving them the evil eye,” says a party source. “It was like high school.”  “All of a sudden she just lost it,” says one of the many witnesses to the tantrum of Diaz. “She came up and started yelling at Jessica.” According to a witness, Biel, 24, stepped away, leaving Diaz, 34, to unleash her fury on Timberlake, 25, who moved with her into a hallway. Says a guest, “First she started saying all these nasty things to him about Jessica like, ‘What is she? Your new f—king girlfriend? Look at her!’ And then she insinuated things about other guys that Jessica has been with.” The tirade went on for 45 minutes, until Barrymore finally intervened. Source: US weekly

After that, I said, “I really want to be exclusive.” And, somehow, she said, “So do I.” It was crazy, because I was about to leave for Europe for three months. Two weeks later, I came back to LA to see her. Then she flew back to Europe with me, and we spent two weeks on the road together. We were going to different cities, having a ball, with room service and pay-per-view and great dinners. And Scrabble. We’ve had a lot of unforgettable times. From Justin Timberlake book, Hindsight

May 2009: Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake did their first red carpet as a couple at the Met Gala. It was pretty unexpected because Justin never did red carpet with Cameron during their 4 years relationship. Anna Wintour co-chaired that year Met Gala with Justin.
Febuary 2010: On the february issue of Vogue Magazine, Jessica shares how she feels about all the tabloids speculations.
It’s definitely been weird and sort of bizarre to deal with. But you have to have a sense of humor about the whole thing. Honestly, I look at a magazine and they know more than I do. I don’t want to talk about it. I don’t feel the need to clear anything up. It’s the most precious thing that I have in my life, and I care about it so much that I don’t care about what anyone says or thinks. I have just not addressed it in any real way, and I’m not going to. It’s mine. And I really like that about it.
March 2010: Justin Timberlake and Cameron Diaz are filming the movie Bad Teacher...
February 28, 2011, Jessica and Justin are spotted at Bowling in Studio City with his mother, Lynn.
March 10, 2011: After many years of never ending rumors, Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake reps confirms to People.com that they have broken up.
Reps for the couple released a statement Thursday, confirming the split: “Addressing the media speculation regarding Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake’s relationship, we are confirming that they mutually have decided to part ways. The two remain friends and continue to hold the highest level of love and respect for each other.”
Again after the break up, Jessica is pretty busy.
April and May 2011: Jessica is filming Playing for Keeps with Gerard Butler in Louisiana
June to September 2011: Jessica is filming Total Recall with Colin Farrell and Kate Beckinsale in Toronto, Canada.
June 2011: In the June issue of Vanity Fair , Justin talks about Jessica.
"She is the single-handedly most significant person in my life. In my 30 years, she is the most special person, OK?
So I protect it, and until somebody shows me what would be more fulfilling at this point, that's what I have to do. I would rather not talk about her, because it's hurtful for me. It's unfortunate that even though you make the effort to say something, which I tried on for size, people do what they want to do.
I don't want to say much more, because I have to protect things that are dear to me—for instance, her."
June 2, 2011: Jessica is seen on Motorcycle Ride with Gerard Butler. Their reps tell People they are just friends.
Meanwhile Justin is spotted hanging out with Ashley Olsen. Justin reps denies the rumors of dating to People, he is hanging out with “a group of friends”. Estee Stanley, Jessica and Ashley’s stylist and close friend, was with them. (On this one you will have to believe me i saw all of them in one video with other people leaving a restaurant and hotel, I can’t post the source).
In May 2012, Jessica shared on social media the RAW backpack that Ashley Olsen gifted to her.
June 03, 2011: Enews reports that Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake reunited at his best friend Trace Ayala girlfriend pregancy party but were just friendly.
Bumping into an ex at a mutual friend's party can be awkward for most of us. But not for Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel, who attended the same party on Thursday afternoon in Brentwood. According to a source, the former couple was more than civil at the celebration..."There was no PDA, but they were talking to each other for awhile," a source tells us. "They ate and sat next to each other." But did it look like the onetime twosome were rekindling their relationship? Not exactly. The exes arrived and left the soiree, which was a celebration for J.T.'s friend and business partner's Trace Ayala's expectant girlfriend, separately.
They did kiss before departing, but it wasn't the romantic type of smooch.
July 3, 2011: US Weekly reports that Justin Timberlake and Jessica Biel were spotted at the Black Hoof restaurant in Toronto where Jessica is filming Total Recall
August 2011: Multiple twitter sightings of them in NYC
August 28, 2011: Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake confirmed back together, they are pictured riding bike in Toronto where Jessica is still filming Total Recall.
Tumblr media
October 30, 2011: A unknow actor posted on twitter a halloween picture of him with Jessica Biel and Chris Evans. Jessica is dressed as a Kardashian and Chris as ...a thug...
Tumblr media
December 23, 2011: A twitter user reports that Justin Timberlake proposed to Jessica Biel at the top of a mountain in Montana. He got the information from their ski instructor friend (not posting his tweet because he is not a public person). Justin and Jessica are known to do heli-snowboarding which would explain why they had an instructor with them. They didn’t confirmed or denied at the moment.
March 8, 2012: Jessica Biel is seen wearing her engagement ring for the first time.
Tumblr media
May 7, 2012: Jessica Biel joins Twitter and Instagram
May 24, 2012: Chris Evans joins Twitter
August 2012: Jessica’s Brentwood house is sold.
October 19, 2012: Jessica and Justin tied the knot at the Borgo Egnazia resort in the south of Italy. Jessica was wearing a custom petal pink Giambattista Valli Haute Couture gown.
Tumblr media
October 21, 2012: Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake flown to Tanzania for a honeymoon amongst the wildlife.
May 2013: Chris bought an house in the same street as Justin and Jessica.
In his interview with Hollywood Reporter in 2019, Chris mentionned that “he thinks” Justin Timberlake lives around here. The little shady interviewer doesn’t believe that he doesn’t know that Jessica also live there.
He keeps it closer to the vest about other people. He mentions in passing that Justin Timberlake lives around here — “I think” — without mentioning that Timberlake lives around here with his wife, Jessica Biel, who was once Evans’ girlfriend.
March 2, 2014: Jessica Biel took a picture with Chris Evans’ brother, Scott Evans, at the 2014 Oscar party.
Tumblr media
September 27, 2014: Jessica Biel who is very well known for being fit is seen with a little belly at the beach in Hawaii.
October 14, 2014: For the first time, Justin shared a picture of them on social media during the New Zealand stop of his 20/20 Experience world tour.
Tumblr media
April 8, 2015: They welcome their first son Silas Randall Timberlake. 12 days later Justin shared his first picture on Instagram. After few months, they stopped sharing his face.
Tumblr media
July 2020: They welcome their second son Phineas Timberlake. They were able to “hide” her pregnancy because of covid lockdown. They never shared pictures showing his face.

Tagged by @entertheaardvark, and I tag @thenightmancometh and uhhhh whoever else wants to do this. @jehannewick @joeypotter1998 @lozlemon
Last book I bought: being very technical, it was an ebook of the dumb textbook (Drugs, society, and human behavior) for my substance abuse class. The last book-book I bought to read on purpose I’m not super sure but I think it might be That Scoundrel Emile Dubois which is a gothic romance parody I plan on enjoying on a forthcoming dark and stormy night.
Borrowed: Dead Silence by S. A. Barnes which is a fun looking sci fi horror. @thenightmancometh I will report if there are lesbians
Was gifted: My mother tends to offload her book of the month club books on me, so I have but have not yet read Sistersong, Circus of Wonders, and The Inheritance of Orquidea Divina which I will probably get to… someday.
Gave/lent to someone: I gifted a teen at my fieldwork job a copy of Sabriel a couple months ago, and I hope she enjoys it. She’s a big Leigh Bardugo fan and generally cool kid.
Started: Monstress by Marjorie M. Liu which is a comic. So far I’m not super impressed and it’s got that “good women are beautiful, nonthreateningly gender-conforming, and graceful but evil women are fat, ugly, sadistic dykes with skin conditions” thing going on which is not really my bag. It’s like Berserk for girls who are into Jessica Valenti! They can put that quote on the back cover.
Finished: this is really challenging the limits of my desire to look cool on the internet because it was Once Upon A Moonlit Night by Elizabeth Hoyt, the 10.5th (it’s a novella) entry in a series of romantic suspense novels set in the 1720s-30s. Before that the last full-length book I finished was Lost Among The Living by Simone St. James, an author I do recommend if you are into lady-centric historical mysteries, ghosts, and mild (heterosexual) romantic plots.
Gave five stars: Strangers Drowning by Larissa MacFarquhar which was recommended to me by @iirulancorrino and @invertprivileges and which was engaging and genuinely thought-provoking in a way that nonfiction rarely is. I had also given five stars to The Turnaway Study since then, but I ended up putting it down to 4 after some thinking about things I wish had been explored in more detail. That’s me being nit-picky though, and honestly I might give it back that last star. It’s a pretty good summary of the results of a hugely important study, one which I’m sure will continue to be cited for a long time.
Gave two stars: How High We Go In The Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu, which is a buzzy current bestseller and which was just a mess of a reading experience. Really childish, derivative knockoff of David Mitchell and Emily St. John Mandel but like, much worse and more solipsistic. Has nothing interesting to say about anything, is casually misogynistic in construction and theme, poorly-written. It’s like if a dude got high and read Mental Floss articles and then wrote spec fic about whichever four caught his stoned attention most.
Didn’t finish: I started Bloody Jack several days ago because someone on here (I forgot who) enjoyed the series as a teen, and I’m always looking for good-quality, female-focused lit to add to my classroom library/recommend to kids. Sadly I just did not vibe with the prose which is clearly meant to emulate old-timey pirate fiction but mostly left me exhausted.

So one of the things that keeps swirling around in my head, post-Barbie movie, is how I want to rename our characters.
We've had these characters for years. Many of them are based off individual alters -- something Alicia didn't know we were doing, and something Alex figured out along the way.
Casper is Jazz, I'm Savin, Andrew is Mitchel, Jordine is Jordine, Alex is Jessica, etc...
But thanks to the Barbie movie, some of us related pretty heavily to Ken. For a multitude of reasons, even though he's an absolute dick in the movie.
And one of us joked about running with something like -- changing Jazz's name to Ken, changing Savin's name to Kenji, changing Mitchel's name to Kenneth....
Ken, Ken, and Kenji (Ed, Edd, and Eddy!).
Of course, the boys form like, a weird love triangle but not quite and honestly I'm proooobs avoiding the love triangle angle as much as possible since we discovered the wonderful world of polyamory. BUT.
Jazz has literally been named Jazz since we were like.... 12? years old? 13? Savin has been Savin since we were 14, Mitchel, Mitchel since....we were 23? 24? So some of our characters have literally had their names for 20 years.
It's really, really hard to switch to the new names. Also, not 100% sold on renaming Mitchel to Kenneth, either, because he sure as shit isn't going to let me shorten his name to Ken. And Ken, Kenneth, and Kenji doesn't have the same ring to it like Ed, Edd, and Eddy thanks to the extra syllable.
Also, writing a story where there are three characters, all with essentially the same name? That sounds almost nightmareish, doesn't it?
I can't fucking shake it, though. Some part of me (maybe multiple parts) really enjoy this idea. They're amused by it. Think it hilarious. Stupid, but hilarious.
Because like -- the whole point of these novels is to illustrate the fact that like, nature vs nurture? does have a role to play. And also the fact that these characters, at least for the "main" ones, are based on actual alters of ours. So naming them similar things plays into that a bit.
Because the main 3 are all Ken, but they're still different people. And each Ken was raised differently, and have their own inherit personality traits -- and if we plop them into different universes, even, you can see which parts of their personality remain the same, and which ones get shaped by that different environment...
We really started finding our voice as a writer thanks to fanfiction. And we want our original stuff to be an homage to fanfiction, in a way. Same set of characters, different stories including some or all of them. If it weren't for fanfiction, we wouldn't have the writing skills we do have.
idk. It's a lot to think about. - Steven

+ 1 wanted connection.
ZOE SANTIAGO (our ADRIA ARJONA) is looking for their OLDER STEPSIBLING. They’re a 33-35 HUMAN or WITCH, who look like MAX MINGHELLA, JESSICA LUCAS, MICHAEL TREVINO, SHAY MITCHELL, RICHARD MADDEN, ANNA DIOP, HENRY GOLDING, or UTP. You DO need to approach the player.
Zoe met them when she was four years old; both only children for their respective parents and suddenly were siblings. It's been complicated between them to say the least, especially after Zoe was bitten and much of the attention and affection from each of their parents' were turned on her to make sure that she not only survived but had all the support that she could possibly want. It caused a bit of tension between them when they were young, something that was prominent as they both got older while Zoe was constantly the younger sibling that felt always in the shadow of their older sibling while they felt ignored and irreverent compared to her.
It wasn't until Zoe was in high school did things between them change, slowly at first to where things actually seemed to be looking up for them aside from the normal bickering that was often found as the household grew to more than just the two of them. However when Zoe left, that's where we would plot out whether their sibling was supportive or not about her departure and if they haven't been in contact much over the years or if it's been a long distance relationship. It'll sent the tone now that she's back in town where they'll have to figure out how to be siblings again.

A list to end June with
Happy last Friday in June! Next week I will be out of town and as such, I have included some videos, etc. about the first Independence Day in the United States of America. I could go on for hours speaking of my thoughts and feelings and hopes and frustrations, but I will not. Surely, the rest of the internet can entertain you in those regards. What I will say, is that history is never fully or always on an upward trajectory. So, what we have accomplished, are able to accomplish, are accomplishing now, and will accomplish one day….are all worth fighting for.
I hope that you have an enjoyable weekend planned, we have a birthday celebration for my sister that should be a lot of fun! We are huge birthday people in our family. So, I am looking forward to a weekend full of books, sushi, brunch, coffee, friends, and family. And hopefully a little bit of sleep. May you enjoy this list I put together! There are also some photographs at the end.

Barden Bellas' Birth Dates?
Okay, so, I had some time on my hands (too much apparently) because I was up early this morning. For whatever reason, I decided to write down all the Bellas' birthdays based on their passports as shown in PP3. I'm sure others have these memorized; sadly, I am not one of those "others."
Anyway, here are a few musings from my foray into the Bellas' birth dates.
I was today years old when I learned that Beca's passport actually has Beca as her legal name. (I have used Rebeca a few times when full-naming her and now feel as if I may have to go back and update fics where I did that [not gonna happen, but still feel like maybe I should]).
Since Stacie did not go on the USO Tour there is no passport shown for her. Which piqued my curiosity as to when her birth date might be. So, I looked up Alexia Knapp's birth date. She was born on July 31, 1989, making her zodiac sign Leo. So, then I looked up traits and such for those born a Leo and I think they kind of fit Stacie. So, I'm thinking that maybe Stacie's birthdate would be July 31. The year would be 1992, to fit in with the ages of the other Bellas who came in when she did.
But then something caught my eye that piqued my curiosity again and got me thinking (scary, I know, but bear with me).
If PP1 came out in 2012, and Beca, et al., were in the Freshman class, that would mean that they were 19 or 20 YEARS OLD in their first year of college (depending on what month their birthdays fell in). Shouldn't they all have been like 17 or 18 if they came straight out of High School?
Aubrey and Chloe's ages seem to fit with them both being Seniors in 2012, so that's that.
But, then, here comes Emily for PP3 in 2017, also at age 20 based on her birth date.
Starting college at age 19 or 20 is not a big deal, but I would think it would be worth knowing why they all started older than most first-year college students. Is this a fic in the making? Something like, Chloe Beale is not the only Barden Bella who failed, and here's how it happened?
Feel free to discuss and/or call me crazy; I won't be offended.
Anyway, here's a list of the Bellas' birthdays that started all this (I've included the age I think they were based on college starting around August 20, 2012; yes, I did look up the calendar for 2012 to get an idea when colleges might have started that year):
Beca Mitchell - September 22, 1992 (19) Chloe Beale - June 7, 1990 (22 and a Senior) Aubrey Posen - April 10, 1989 (23 and a Senior) Stacie Conrad - ???? (If born in July 1992, 20) Patricia (Amy) Hobart - August 24, 1992 (19 for first 4 days) Lily Onakuramara - February 9, 1993 (19) Ashley Jones - September 12, 1992 (19) Jessica Smith - January 1, 1992 (20) Cynthia-Rose Adams - October 3, 1992 (19) Emily Junk - November 11, 1996 (came in in 2017 at age 20) Florencia Fuentes - August 30, 1992 (19 for fist 10 days)
Yep, definitely too much time on my hands. Side note: I based the college starting date on U.S. colleges.

pieces - chapter thirteen
Five years ago, Chloe dropped off the face of the Earth. Beca didn’t expect to see her again dancing in a strip club, out of all places.
rated: E (drug use and emotional abuse in early chapters)

It didn’t take long for Beca to realize that Sarah was right.
She probably had been oblivious to her feelings for Chloe or chalked them up to close friendship because Sarah was in the picture, but as soon as her guilt over breaking-up with Sarah faded away a couple of weeks ago, it felt as though a veil lifted.
Her whole being lit up every time she saw Chloe, and she craved those soft moments with her, either talking about Bean, or working on the nursery, or cuddling up on the couch.
Beca didn’t know if Chloe felt the same way, and even if she did, she was probably miles away from being ready to launch into a relationship, between the baby and her recovery.
She focused on her music in the meantime, writing three more songs to go with that one piece she came up with the day after she saw Chloe again. One was about being brave, another about getting redemption, and the last one about finding happiness. All about Chloe, and how much her journey inspired Beca.
Beca came home pretty late from the office that night, wrapping up the final versions of all four songs with Luke. She found Chloe on the couch watching a sitcom and padded over. Chloe was now shy of 22 weeks and sporting the most adorable baby bump.
They had worked on the nursery over the last two weekends, hanging cute, colorful pictures of several woodland animals and sticking colorful, minimalist tree wall decals on the opposite wall. The crib, changing table, and car seat had been ordered, and Beca was planning a surprise baby shower with Aubrey, a month after the Bellas reunion, which was taking place in two weeks at a cabin upstate.
“Hey,” Beca murmured, plopping down beside her. “How was your day?”
“Pretty good. Bean and I went for a walk, then we met up with Aubrey for lunch, and napped for most of the afternoon. She’s kicking like crazy right now, though.”
Beca grinned. “Yeah?” She cleared her throat, hesitant. “Can I… feel?”
“Of course,” Chloe said softly, taking Beca’s hand and setting it on the left side of her stomach. “That’s where her foot was just a second ago.”
Beca folded her legs under her and sat back on her heels to be more comfortable, silence descending upon them as they waited. After a minute, she glanced at Chloe. “Maybe it’s not strong enough to be felt from the outside, yet?”
“No, it’s not that. I think she’s stopped.”
“Oh,” Beca let out in slight disappointment. Just as she was about to pull her hand away, she felt a light tap against her palm and gasped. “Oh my god, I felt it!”
A giggle burst from Chloe’s mouth. “That was a strong one.”
“That’s amazing,” Beca mused aloud, her voice sticking to her throat a bit. Yes, she was about to cry over Chloe’s baby kicking, that’s how soft this whole thing had made her. “Jesus Beale, your kid is turning me into a giant puddle of mush.”
Chloe chuckled, moving Beca’s hand to a new spot and keeping hers on top. Bean kicked again, pulling another gasp from Beca.
“Does it hurt?” Beca found herself asking, her gaze sweeping upwards to watch Chloe’s expression.
“It’s a little bit uncomfortable whenever she kicks in the ribs, but other than that, no.” Chloe moved her hand to another spot, tracking the next kick. “How was your day? You’re home pretty late.”
“Yeah, Luke and I added the finishing touches to my EP.”
Chloe’s eyes lit up. “When is it going to be out?”
“We still have to get the art for the cover, so probably in a couple of weeks, right after the Bellas reunion.” Chloe nodded slowly. “Are you excited to see the girls?”
“I’m… a bit nervous to be honest. What are they gonna think?”
Beca smiled. “They’re going to think that you’re a badass.” Chloe broke eye-contact, shaking her head as looked down to her lap. “Hey, I’m serious. None of them are going to judge you. And just like Aubrey and I, they’re going to be so happy to have you back in their lives.”
Chloe hesitantly met her gaze. “You really think so?”
A firm nod. “I know so.”
Chloe managed a smile and a faint nod. “Okay.”
The following two weeks were busy for Beca as she focused on promoting her EP and tied some loose ends before the Bellas reunion so she wouldn’t be bothered that weekend. Early on that mid-August Saturday morning, they set off to Lake Placid, having planned to meet the Bellas there by lunchtime. Chloe didn’t mention anything, but Beca could tell she was nervous from all the cooking she had done in the past few days, enough to feed an army.
She was glad, however, that Chloe used that as a stress-reliever as opposed to falling back into bad habits.
They made it to the cabin Beca rented just before 1 pm, and Beca heard Chloe suck in a sharp breath as soon as she killed the engine, her expression similar to when they made it to her parents’ two months ago.
“It’ll be okay,” Beca murmured, covering Chloe’s hand with her own and squeezing it. She was a bit worried about there being alcohol, as Chloe insisted they shouldn’t have to restrain themselves for her sake.
“Thanks,” Chloe breathed out, flipping her hand over and holding Beca’s for a moment. “Okay, let’s do this.”
Most of them had made it there last night as they were flying in, shouts and laughter carrying from the backyard, where the outdoor pool was. It was sunny and way too hot for Beca’s liking, but she didn’t say a word, as being pregnant in that weather was definitely worse.
If Chloe was uncomfortable with the temperature, she didn’t let it show, looking gorgeous in her yellow maternity summer dress.
Stepping inside, they set the food bags on the kitchen island and Beca walked towards the open bay window, Chloe following behind.
“Hey nerds,” she called out as she stepped out on the patio just as Amy made a cannonball, the splashing water nearly drenching her. “Dude!”
“Sup Shortstack?” Amy greeted as she emerged a few beats later.
“Chloe!” Beca turned around to see Stacie striding over and hugging Chloe tightly. “I’ve missed you.”
“Hey Stace,” Chloe murmured, embracing her back. “I’ve missed you, too.”
As Beca had predicted, the Bellas took it all in one stride, greeting Chloe like it hadn’t been over six years since they last saw one another and making her feel like a part of the group without a second thought.
Now able to relax, Beca helped herself to a drink, watching from afar as Chloe met Stacie’s three-year-old daughter for the first time, a fond smile etched in her features. It was clear from that first exchange with Bella that Chloe would rock this mom thing, given how much of a natural she was around kids.
After lunch, the girls made the most of the pool, either playing various games in the water or sunbathing in the lounge chairs. Beca was content soaking it all in at the table, sipping on a margarita. Her gaze often wandered to Chloe as she chatted with Jessica while reclining on a chair, clad in a bikini with one hand rubbing her belly.
It was easy for her thoughts to escape towards what it could be if she and Chloe were to become something more. Raising Bean together, buying a house somewhere outside the city, getting a dog, possibly getting married...
“Oi, Mitchell.”
Beca snapped out of her reverie, clearing her throat in embarrassment as Stacie plopped down next to her. “What’s up, Stace?”
“You good?” She asked, cocking an eyebrow. “You looked like you were having a moment.”
“Yeah, I’m fine,” Beca assured her and smiled, setting her drink down before pushing to her feet. She wanted to get in on the pool action, but her bathing suit was upstairs in her overnight bag. “I’m gonna go change.”
“Be quiet if you’re going upstairs?” Stacie asked. “I just put Bella down for her nap.”
“No problem.”
Beca headed to her room and changed into her bikini, sliding her denim shorts back on and grabbing her sunscreen as she didn’t want to resemble a lobster tonight. As she quietly headed down the hallway towards the stairs, she couldn’t help but freeze when she heard her name behind a door left slightly ajar.
“Feelings? For Beca?”
It was Aubrey’s voice. Beca knew she shouldn’t eavesdrop, but she really couldn’t get her feet to move, curiosity rooting them down.
A sigh that belonged to Chloe followed. “I was convinced it was just my hormones going wild at first. But then something happened the other night when she felt Bean kick for the first time. You should have seen her reaction, Bree... she was completely moved by it, and it’s like I felt my heart double in size. And I think about her non-stop, even when I need to… take care of myself.”
“Oh my god, ew, Chloe!” Aubrey hissed while Beca nearly choked on her saliva, her entire body feeling as though it just caught on fire. “I don’t need to hear that.”
“I’m sorry!” Chloe whispered, stifling a laugh. “What I mean by that is that it’s not just platonic love or gratitude because of everything she did for me lately. I’m physically attracted to her, too. It feels exactly the same as it did in Barden.”
Beca’s heart stuttered at that. Chloe had feelings for her back then, too?
“Are you going to tell her?” Aubrey asked softly.
“I…” Chloe hesitated. “I want to. But I’m just getting my life back together, I’m not ready for a relationship yet. And I’m also… scared she might not feel the same way.”
Beca forced herself to walk away, knowing that what she was doing wasn’t right. Her brain reeled from the onslaught of information all evening long. She was physically there, but her mind felt thousands of miles away, her thoughts going back and forth between that night at Barden, and if she should tell Chloe about how she felt.
She retreated to her room before the others, not that it surprised anyone as she was, along with Aubrey, considered the grandma of the group. She had just slipped into bed when a knock sounded at the door.
“Come in,” she called out softly.
The door opened just wide enough for Chloe to step inside, and she shut it behind her, padding over to the bed. “You okay? You’ve seemed off tonight.”
Beca nodded. “Yeah, I’m okay. I promise.” She patted the space next to her. “Wanna hang out here for a bit?”
As Chloe nodded and shuffled to lie next to her atop the covers, Beca felt her heartbeat quicken. It was odd, knowing for certain Chloe had feelings for her and holding the cards in her own hands.
“Today was a lot of fun,” Chloe murmured as she sat propped against the pillows, bracing a hand over her stomach. “You were right. The girls don’t care about my past.”
“Well, your past doesn’t define you,” Beca said with a soft smile. “I’m glad you’re having a good time.”
“Are you nervous about tomorrow? About your EP coming out?”
Beca shook her head. “Not really. I didn’t write those songs with the goal to hit the top of the charts, so I don’t exactly feel any pressure.” At Chloe’s slight tilt of the head, she added, “I wrote them because they helped me work through some of my feelings. Especially the first one.”
Twisting her head to the right, she grabbed her phone and her headphones, plugging them in before gently setting them over Chloe’s ears. She puffed out a breath and pressed play, willing her ratcheting heart to chill the fuck out as Chloe closed her eyes and listened.
The song only lasted a few minutes, but it felt like the longest of Beca’s life. Chloe’s lids slowly opened, and she lowered the headphones so that they hung around her neck, her gaze full of questions.
“It’s about us,” she whispered, no doubt having picked up the few hints woven into the lyrics.
Beca swallowed, nodding. She had never felt at ease pouring her heart out, and she sucked in a deep breath through her nose, puffing it out through her lips. “You remember when I told you about listening to your gut?” Chloe gave a faint nod. “That’s what I should have done that morning after because not telling you how I felt was the biggest mistake of my life.”
She briefly glanced down. “I had broken Jesse’s heart just a little while before, and I was scared that I just wasn’t made for relationships. So I didn’t say anything, because I couldn’t break your heart, either. I would have never forgiven myself if I did.”
Chloe remained silent for half-a-minute, processing Beca’s words. “I knew you were in love with me,” she admitted softly. “And I had the feeling you were just scared, so I didn’t push you. I figured… you just needed time, and I was ready to wait for you. But then…” she cleared her throat, her eyes flickering down. “My life skidded out of control.”
Beca’s heart suddenly feels heavy with the weight of regret. She can’t help but wonder how different things could have been, had she been honest with Chloe that morning. But she willed her mind to come back to the present because there was no point in wallowing in the should-haves and what-ifs. Not when she was being given a second chance.
No chickening out this time. She wasn’t a kid anymore.
“I want to be with you, Chlo,” she murmured, her throat shrinking with emotions as she forced her gaze to remain locked with Chloe’s. “These past few months… living with you and being by your side through this journey-- it made me fall in love with you all over again.”
Chloe closed her eyes, and a few tears toppled down her cheeks. She released a long breath. “I want that, too. I do,” she croaked out, and something that had been poking at Beca’s heart suddenly vanished. Chloe reached out to swipe her palm over both cheeks, her other hand sliding into Beca’s. “I just need some time. I need to find a more stable mindset before I open that door.”
“I know,” Beca whispered, blinking back her own tears. “And I’ll wait, this time. For however long it takes. I promise.”
“I know,” Chloe echoed, her thumb slowly stroking Beca’s knuckles back and forth. “I trust you.”
They shared a soft smile, and Beca didn’t think she had felt this light, ever.
“I guess I should head to bed,” Chloe said after a moment of comfortable silence.
Beca nodded. “Okay.” Releasing Chloe’s hand, she rubbed her palm over Chloe’s belly gently. “Night Bean.”
Chloe stood up and cast her short wave when she made it to the door, shutting it softly behind her.

Beca doesn’t like horror movies but the Bellas make her watch one?
Well it is almost spooky season!
This kinda turned more serious than I think the prompt was intending but oh well!
Hope you like it!
Read on AO3
------
Beca Mitchell didn’t like horror movies.
She didn’t like horror TV shows.
She didn’t like scary games, ghost stories, horror novels, haunted houses - any of it.
She didn’t like being scared.
So whenever a horror movie was suggested by the Bellas for one of their Sunday movie nights, Beca would just excuse herself with an “I’m good” and leave them to it.
And Beca prides herself on being good at saying no to people. In her opinion, “no” was a complete sentence.
Until she met Chloe Beale of course.
Chloe had a way of convincing her to do things she wouldn’t normally.
She was a hard person to say no to.
Not impossible. Just hard.
“Come on Becs,” Chloe had said, doing that irresistible pout that she did so well. “I need someone to keep me safe.” She was patting the space on the sofa next to her.
“I don’t…” Her voice trailed away, just looking at Chloe’s puppy-dog eyes.
She could have said no.
She was about to say no.
But then Fat Amy started doing a quiet impression of a chicken, that got slowly louder.
And Beca’s an adult now. She isn’t the type to get goaded into doing something she doesn’t want to out of fear of people making fun of her.
But then Chloe let out a small giggle.
She could deal with the Bellas laughing at her.
She couldn’t deal with Chloe laughing at her.
So she gave in. She walked over to the sofa and pushed herself into the corner beside Chloe.
She didn’t even get that balloon of happiness that usually followed Chloe cuddling into her side.
She just felt dread, because she knew what was coming.
The movie itself wasn’t really that scary. The acting was bad, the story was boring, and the jump scares were predictable.
When the jump scares happened, Beca didn’t shriek like Jessica and Ashley, she didn’t squeeze her eyes shut and hide her face like Chloe, and she didn’t curse loudly like Amy.
If you were looking at her, you’d guess that the film was having no effect whatsoever, but Chloe could feel how tense she was beneath her. She could feel her body quietly jerk at each scare. Could hear her heart beating beneath her head.
20 minutes towards the end of the movie, Amy excused herself from the group.
“Booty calls!” She said, pulling on her shoes and coat, preparing to head to her midnight rendezvous with Bumper.
“Are you going to be out all night?” Beca asked, speaking for the first time since the movie started.
“That’s usually how it goes,” Amy said. “Don’t wait up. In fact, don’t expect to see me for about a week.”
Chloe felt Beca deflate beneath her, and was about to ask if she was okay, before Stacie hit play on the movie, and she was pulled back in.
When the movie finished, Chloe sat up and stretched her back.
“Thanks for keeping me safe,” she said to Beca with a wink. Her smile faltered when she saw the expression on Beca’s face. She looked almost angry. “Are you okay?”
“Please,” Beca said, her voice quiet so only Chloe could hear, “please don’t ask me to do that again.”
Chloe looked puzzled. “Are you really… it wasn’t that scary.”
“The movie isn’t the problem,” Beca said. “It’s what comes next.”
Chloe opened her mouth to ask Beca to elaborate, but she was already walking up the stairs without saying goodnight to any of them.
“What’s up with her?” Stacie asked, helping Chloe tidy up as the other Bellas started filing off to bed.
“I dunno,” Chloe replied. “Should I go check on her?”
Stacie shrugged. “She’s probably just annoyed that she had to watch a dumb movie instead of working on her mixes or something.”
Chloe didn’t think that was it, but she hadn’t liked the look on Beca’s face after the movie had ended. She didn’t deal with people being upset with her well, and she wasn’t even sure what she’d done wrong. If Beca really hadn’t wanted to watch the movie, she should have just said so.
Plus she knew by now that pushing Beca to talk about something that she didn’t want to talk about would only make her clam up more.
So Chloe decided to let her cool off on her own.
Beca knew where she was if she wanted to talk.
-
Beca felt okay while she could still hear the rest of the Bellas milling around the house.
From her attic room she could just make out the sound of them climbing the stairs to their respective floors. She could hear them calling out sleepy goodnights to each other, and she could hear indistinct chattering and soft giggling coming from Jessica and Ashley’s room for a little while after.
It’s when the house finally fell silent that Beca knew she was in trouble.
When the sounds of muffled voices and soft footsteps were replaced by the house creaking and the wind whistling through the shoddy window she could never fully close.
When the shadows in the corners of her room began morphing into figures.
She could already feel the familiar cramping in her legs and the cold sweat running down her back.
She wished Amy was here.
Closing her eyes was no good because she was too terrified that there would be someone there when she opened them. Watching her. Waiting for her.
Her bedside lamp stayed on, and she fumbled for her laptop, searching for something to play to drown out the horrible silence.
Her hands shook as she loaded up her iTunes library, hitting play on the first song her curser fell on.
She hoped it would be enough to keep her mind from wandering. From spiralling.
She knew she’d get no sleep tonight. She wouldn’t let herself.
She was in for a rough few nights.
As a child she’d been plagued by nightmares and night terrors. She’d spent so many nights curled beneath her blanket, legs tucked against her chest. Her legs would cramp and ache but she couldn’t stretch them out until she saw the sun the next morning. Because while the room was dark, she knew hands were waiting to pull at her legs the second she moved them.
She wouldn’t allow herself to feel the relief of the cold bedroom air on her face until sunlight had driven the shadows away from her.
Her parents had always said the same things to her.
It’s just a dream.
They can’t hurt you.
None of it is real.
Go back to bed, you’re too old for this now.
So eventually she stopped telling them about it.
She knew the nightmares weren’t real, but the fear was.
Her nightmares had gradually stopped during her teen years, but they would always come back with a vengeance whenever she gave them the opportunity.
When she was at a sleepover aged 14, and her friends had put on the Blair Witch Project, she’d been too embarrassed to say no.
And really, the film was fine. Not particularly scary.
But it was what came after.
The mostly sleepless night punctuated by nightmares. The moving shadows around the room that looked like hands reaching for her. The sound of the cat scratching at the door, and the dog whining - constantly whining - from the next room.
When morning came and her mom and her boyfriend arrived to pick her up, she could honestly say she’d never been so happy to see them.
She thought that would be it, but the next night was the same, and the night after that.
She got in trouble for falling asleep in class and her mom had confiscated her laptop, assuming Beca had been up all night making mixes again.
Beca couldn’t tell her the truth.
After a few days the nightmares and the gripping fear faded away, and Beca vowed never to let it happen again.
She knew if she allowed that door to be opened, her mind would start to spiral as soon as the credits on the movie rolled.
If she read creepy stories online like a lot of her friends in high school did, she was fine until she closed out the tab and tried to sleep.
Ghost stories around a campfire were fun and games until the fire went out and Beca was alone with nothing but her thoughts.
So she’d stopped doing those things that triggered this response in her.
None of it was worth it.
There was no movie good enough to warrant the terror and the three or four sleepless nights that would follow.
Beca was good at saying no.
No was a complete sentence.
And now she’d screwed up.
With her eyes fixed on the shadow standing beside her door, she curled herself up on her bed, feeling every bit as small and scared as she had done as child.
It was going to be a long night.
-
Chloe entered the kitchen the next morning to find Beca sitting at the table, her hands wrapped around a mug of coffee.
“Morning,” she said, trying to sound casual, and not at all worried that, for some reason, Beca was mad at her.
Beca jumped slightly before looking up. “Morning,” she said.
She looked terrible.
“You’re up early,” Chloe said, trying to gauge Beca’s mood.
“Didn’t really sleep,” Beca said, rubbing at her eyes.
“You don’t have class until this afternoon, right? Why not go take a nap?”
Beca just smiled and shook her head.
Chloe thought about what Beca had said the night before.
The movie isn’t the problem. It’s what comes next.
“Are you okay?”
And Beca thought about telling her, but she still felt embarrassed.
She was 21 now - a legal adult - she shouldn’t still be too scared to sleep after watching a film that wasn’t even that scary. About how she couldn’t take a nap now, because soon she’d be the only person in the house, and she couldn’t deal with that silence.
She remembered the giggle that Chloe had let out when Amy had called her a chicken.
She didn’t want Chloe to laugh at her again.
“I’m fine,” Beca said.
-
That night, Chloe had woken up to use the bathroom at about 2 am.
On her way back to bed she happened to glance up at Beca’s room. She could see light spilling out from under her door, and she thought she could hear the sound of muffled voices followed by canned laughter.
She assumed Beca had fallen asleep watching Netflix on her laptop again.
The light was unusual, but it didn’t worry Chloe too much.
Beca had looked exhausted that morning, so Chloe assumed she’d fallen asleep before turning it off for the night.
She made her way back to bed.
-
The next morning, Beca looked worse, but she had been hurrying off to an early class and Chloe didn’t have a chance to ask her if she was okay.
She vowed to talk to her properly when she got home that night.
When she arrived home after her last class of the day, the kitchen was full of noise and energy.
Every Tuesday, the Bellas made and ate dinner together. It was the one night of the week they were all guaranteed to be there - along with Sunday movie nights.
“Where’s Beca?” Chloe asked, surprised she wasn’t in there with them.
“Dunno,” Stacie said, adding another pinch of salt to the dish they were making, despite Cynthia Rose’s objections.
“She went through to the living room when she got home,” Cynthia Rose said. “But she looked kinda beat to be honest, maybe she just went straight to bed.”
Chloe headed into the living room, expecting to see Beca’s bag or shoes dropped haphazardly on the floor (as she so often did) but not expecting to see the girl herself.
Beca was tucked into the corner of the sofa, her head resting on her folded arms, fast asleep.
Chloe didn’t want to wake her, but she knew Beca would end up with a sore neck and pains in her arms and legs if she left her sleeping like this.
She reached out and brushed a strand of hair out of Beca’s face.
“Hey,” Chloe said softly. “Wake up.”
Beca groaned and tried to push Chloe’s hand away.
“Come on,” Chloe said, laughing lightly, “you can’t sleep like this, you’ll hurt your neck.”
After some more quiet coaxing, Beca eventually sat up and rubbed her eyes.
“What’s going on with you?” Chloe asked, hoping she’d get a truthful answer, knowing that Beca’s defences were weaker when she was like this.
“‘m tired,” she mumbled.
“Did you not sleep again last night?”
Beca shook her head and yawned.
“Why don’t you go to bed? You’ll be able to get some proper sleep without the listening to that racket.”
“I like it,” Beca said.
“The noise?”
Beca nodded, and rubbed at her eyes again, trying to wake herself up. “Makes me feel safe.”
“Okay,” Chloe said, not really understanding. “Do you want to come help with dinner then?”
Beca looked like she wanted to say something else, but she seemed to be more aware of herself now she was waking up, and so shook her head.
“I think I’m just gonna go to bed,” Beca said. “Can you tell the others I’m sick or something?”
“Yeah, okay,” Chloe said, frowning as she watched Beca make her way upstairs.
-
Chloe found it hard to sleep that night. She was worried about Beca.
It was after midnight when she left her room to look and see if Beca’s light was on again.
It was.
This time she could hear the soft sounds of The Simpsons coming from her room.
She knew The Simpsons was Beca’s comfort TV, and that spurred her on to take the stairs two at at time.
She knocked lightly on her door, and the voice of Marge Simpson was stopped mid sentence.
She could hear sheets rustling, but no one told her to come in.
“Beca?” She asked softly, just in case Beca was asleep.
There was a pause, and then “Chloe?”
Something in Beca’s voice made her heart hurt.
“Yeah,” Chloe said. “Can I come in?”
“Yeah.”
Chloe turned the handle and almost cried at the sight.
Beca’s eyes were red rimmed with almost purple bags under them. Her hair was mostly tied up in a messy ponytail, but strands had fallen out and were stuck to Beca’s face with what she assumed was sweat.
Her hands were shaking as they gripped the edges of her blanket, and her eyes were glassy with unshed tears.
“Beca,” Chloe said softly, unsure what else to say.
And then the tears in Beca’s eyes were falling
“Sorry,” Beca said, her voice catching in her throat. “I’m sorry.”
“Hey,” Chloe said, sitting beside her on the bed and softly, pulling her into a hug. “Don’t be sorry. What is it?”
“You’ll laugh at me,” Beca said, wiping her eyes with her hands.
“Of course I won’t,” Chloe said. “I’m worried about you. Talk to me.”
Eventually, Beca told her all of it.
Told her about the paralysing fear that gripped her as soon as she was alone at night.
About the nightmares she was too scared to sleep and face.
She told her about it all.
And Chloe kept her word and didn’t laugh.
Not that she would have anyway. She didn’t find anything funny about this.
“I’m so sorry,” Chloe said, once Beca had finished speaking. “Beca I’m so sorry, I had no idea. I wouldn’t have asked you to watch it if I’d known.” She pressed her lips against the side of Beca’s head and held her close. “I need you to know that you can say no to me. Even if I’m being all pouty. If you don’t want to do something, you can absolutely say no.”
“I know,” Beca said, her voice rough now. “I just didn’t want you to make fun of me.”
Chloe felt a pang of guilt. “I’m sorry,” she said again.
“It isn’t your fault. We all tease each other all the time. You didn’t know this was a serious thing,” Beca said, feeling relief as the fear started ebbing away.
“I’m still sorry,” Chloe said. “Do you think you’ll be able to sleep?”
“I don’t think I have much choice,” Beca said. “Will you stay? Please?”
“Of course,” Chloe said. She got into the bed properly beside Beca and covered them both with the blanket. She hit play on The Simpsons again and pulled Beca so she was resting her head on her chest.
She could see Beca fighting keep her eyes open as they watched, but it was a battle she couldn’t win.
“Hey,” Chloe said, softly. “It’s okay. I’m here, I won’t let anything happen to you.”
“Please don’t leave.”
“I promise,” Chloe said. “Close your eyes.”
As if Beca had been waiting for permission, her eyes closed and her body relaxed against Chloe’s.
“Don’t leave,” she mumbled.
“I’m not going anywhere.”

The Forgotten Screen Team: Fred MacMurray and Claudette Colbert By Jessica Pickens
Tumblr media
Fred MacMurray attributed his film success to Claudette Colbert. Before MacMurray became a beloved father figure in 1960s Disney films or on TV’s My Three Sons, he was a romantic leading man from the 1930s and ‘50s. Seven of those films co-starred Colbert from 1935 to 1949. The screen team was born when MacMurray was cast in his first major film, THE GILDED LILY (’35). It was only MacMurray’s second credited film role, and he landed the role for an unusual skill: his ability to naturally talk while simultaneously eating popcorn.
Actor Charlie Ruggles tipped off his brother, director Wesley Ruggles, to a handsome new actor that he should consider for his new film, THE GILDED LILY. Wesley screened MacMurray’s first credited role in GRAND OLD GIRL (‘35) and spotted him eating popcorn casually at a football game. It was important for the male lead of THE GILDED LILY to be able to eat popcorn with casual skill due to a scene where the two leads sit on a park bench as pals and discuss mundane topics like peanuts vs. popcorn. As they talk, MacMurray tosses kernels into his mouth. Since Colbert had approval of her leading men, she agreed with casting MacMurray and went to bat for him against the Paramount studio heads, as noted by MacMurray’s biographer Charles Tranberg.
Tumblr media
The film follows two friends, a reporter, Peter (MacMurray), and a stenographer, Marilyn (Colbert). They meet on a New York City park bench and discuss life and then go their separate ways. On the subway, Marilyn meets and falls in love with wealthy Lord Granton (Ray Milland), but she is jilted when he sails home to England to marry. Peter writes an article about the romance and creates a media heyday. He calls Marilyn the “No Girl” saying she turned down Lord Granton’s marriage proposal. Marilyn becomes internationally famous and cashes in on the fame by becoming a nightclub performer. Landing the acting job was the easiest part of THE GILDED LILY for MacMurray. Shocked to be selected since he felt that he was a nobody, MacMurray was green and a nervous wreck. Later he called himself “a basket case,” and upon arriving for his first day on set, MacMurray said he “felt all empty and hollow inside and weak in the knees. I felt drained. My mouth was dry and I was hyperventilating. I practically collapsed.” But Claudette Colbert immediately helped to put her new co-star at ease, thus starting their partnership. “When Claudette saw me standing there petrified, she put her hand on my arm and with a grin on her face quietly said, ‘Now what are you so frightened about?’” MacMurray later said. The love scenes in particular brought on anxiety as MacMurray tried to kiss Colbert in front of a large crew. “Claudette rumpled my hair and kidded me, and finally I made it,” he later said.
Tumblr media
THE GILDED LILY made MacMurray a star and birthed a screen team. Because of the success of the film, Colbert and MacMurray were cast in another picture together in 1935, and several others over the next 14 years, including: THE BRIDE COMES HOME (’35), MAID OF SALEM (’37), NO TIME FOR LOVE (’43), PRACTICALLY YOURS (’44), THE EGG AND I (’47) and FAMILY HONEYMOON (’48). As his career progressed, MacMurray gave Colbert credit not only for boosting his confidence, but MacMurray said that he learned more from Colbert than he did on any other film, according to Colbert’s biographer Lawrence J. Quirk. Quirk noted that part of the secret to their successful chemistry was their differences. Colbert was the pinnacle of glamour and — in contrast — MacMurray was the casual everyman who may live next door. On the sets of their films, cast and crew could see the chemical reaction that resulted in their on-screen magic. Robert Young, who co-starred with the pair in THE BRIDE COMES HOME, said that you could immediately see they were “simpatico” and “egged each other on” to give their best. “I’ve seen them take a situation that seemed intrinsically lifeless to me … and bring it stingingly, charmingly, excitingly to life,” Young said in Colbert’s biography. “And sometimes, they’d do bits of business that didn’t look like any great shakes to me at the time from my vantage on set, but that came out extraordinarily well during the rushes.”
Tumblr media
On their films NO TIME FOR LOVE and PRACTICALLY YOURS, director Mitchell Leisen watched the two as they planned their scenes before filming. “Many times when I was setting up the next scene, they’d go off in a corner and work it up themselves. They’d show me how they wanted to do it and it would be just right. I might edit it a bit, but they were talented natural performers, and I wanted them to do it in a way that was comfortable for them.”
However, all good things have to end, even with a popular screen team. Colbert and MacMurray’s last two films together were not as satisfactory for the pair. Colbert’s last moneymaker was THE EGG AND I. Later, Colbert said she did the best she could with the film and “Fred was a big help with it—as always,” according to Quirk. On their last film together, FAMILY HONEYMOON, the two knew it was time to call it quits. “We had been getting together for 14 years and by 1949, Claudette knew as well as I did that things run their good and proper course and then they are simply over,” MacMurray later stated. “We had a long run, a rewarding one, and there are no complaints to offer in retrospect.”

Fairy tale retellings! because I couldn’t help myself (under the cut because I got carried away and remembered my fairy tale retelling phase from middle school........ oh boy)
Cinderella
Cinderella (2015 Disney live action): beautiful beautiful BEAUTIFUL (the music! the script!! the Hope! the costumes! the dress! the gentleness at its heart! the overall design and the colours!) (I still believe it’s the best live action re-adaptation they’ve come up with so far) (then again they DID have one of the Rogue One writers and Kenneth Branagh--both of whom understand story AND fairy tales--on the team, and possibly the best combination of actors and costume designers)
Cinderella (Disney animated movie): like a dream. Can’t remember it that well because I haven’t watched it in over ten years, but I remember that I loved it
Cinderella, the Rodgers & Hammerstein musical featuring Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana: Laura’s Cinderella is so lively and hopeful and bright and affectionate and I Love Her!!! The script is also surprisingly funny, and the little changes they made (like the fairy godmother being an old beggar woman in the village, the subplot with her stepsister, the scene at the ball where she suggests that they should all be kind to one another, the fact that the prince is called His Royal Highness Christopher Rupert Windemere Vladimir Karl Alexander Francois Reginald Lancelot Herman (HERMAN!) Gregory James....... iconic) added rather than detracted from the themes they chose to emphasize
A Cinderella Story: possibly one of my favourite films. I loved the fact that they knew each other before the ‘ball’. Loved the way the fairy tale was ‘translated’ into the 2000s. The friendship was strong with this one. I had the best time watching this movie. (Dress-wise, Hilary Duff’s dress is my least favourite, but that’s a minor quibble, and is also due to the fact that it has Lily and Laura’s gorgeous fluffy ballgowns to contend with, and that’s not fair competition)
Persuasion, by Jane Austen: does it count?? The way I see it, Persuasion is like Cinderella gone wrong (we discussed this in class, and my prof called Lady Russell a fairy godmother who means well but fails her protege before the story even begins. We talked about Anne’s ‘Cinderella’/makeover moment taking place over a longer period of time, about the ‘evil’ stepsisters, etc. etc. I’m not entirely sure I agree with every single comparison he made, but he made some Very interesting points).... at least the first time :)
Cinder, by Marissa Meyer. Oh, the images!!!!! Marissa Meyer is WONDERFUL at them. You wouldn’t think they’d translate well into a futuristic sci-fi (almost steampunk) world, but she did it SO brilliantly (the slipper! the ‘dress’! the whole family situation!)
Rapunzel
Tangled (Disney animated movie): an absolute joy. Rapunzel is an Ariel-like character who has hopes and dreams of her own, and I love how warm and vivacious and endearingly transparent she is. The dance scene is so, so lovely. (I stand by my opinion that very few little went right with Disney’s fairy tale retellings after Tangled.)
Cress, by Marissa Meyer: once again. Images. I can’t believe she managed to pull Rapunzel-in-space off so well. (Plus she’s a hacker, and such a sweetheart!!)
Beauty and the Beast
Beauty and the Beast (Disney animated movie): Amazing. Gorgeous. Brilliant. The buildings and the music and Belle (Belle, my darling!!) and the darker, more Gothic feel to the art and the design...... Yes
Beauty, by Robin McKinley: knocked it right out of the ball park, right through the atmosphere, right into outer space... The language is so lush and atmospheric, and even though I knew roughly what was going to happen, I loved every moment of it. She puts a special emphasis on family and on human connection and I Loved that so much.
Rose Daughter, by Robin McKinley: also gorgeous!!!!! Beauty is still my favourite of the two, but this one was also a gem. (Again: the emphasis on family and sisterhood!!!)
Beauty and the Beast (the Broadway musical): Susan Egan’s voice is SO lovely. And Home deserved more than just an instrumental reference in the 2017 version.
The Twelve Dancing Princesses
Princess of the Midnight Ball, by Jessica Day George: the Best. The sisters are easier to distinguish, the changes/things she added (the war, the queen’s past, etc.) make the story even more interesting, and Galen is fantastic (courteous, kind, brave, AND likes to knit?? NICE)
The Barbie movie: I loved it when I was a little girl (it is also Muffin-approved!)
The Princess and the Pea
@fictionadventurer‘s Wodehousian one :) which is an absolute delight. Every once in a while I remember it and then can’t stop smiling
The Goose Girl
The Goose Girl, by Shannon Hale: the Best. And by the Best, I mean the absolute Best. Her writing is so beautiful and her characters are so real and distinctive. The worldbuilding is fascinating. It’s so simple and so beautiful, and is near-perfect as a retelling and as a novel. The rest of the Bayern series is also wonderful!!
The Little Mermaid
The Little Mermaid (Disney movie): can’t remember it very well, except for the chef who wanted to cook Sebastian and also Ariel’s very cool sisters.... the music and Ariel’s character are lovely :)
The Little Android, by Marissa Meyer: genius. The first time I read it, I cried furiously. What does it mean to be human?? Marissa Meyer loves to talk about this in her other books (through malfunctioning robots, androids, werewolves, etc.). And the conclusion she comes to is always the same (and always done so beautifully): it’s about love and sacrifice (and tbh even though she’s talking about this through robots and werewolves, she’s got a point!!! When you act with love and self-sacrifice, you reflect the character of the Maker and His love and self-sacrifice, which is what makes us in that moment the most human--or at least human in the sense that that’s what we were made to be and to do towards our neighbours and enemies)
Ponyo (Studio Ghibli movie): this counts, doesn’t it?? A film that is an absolute joy through and through. It doesn’t completely stick to the original fairy tale but it also talks about compassion, kindness, and love as a choice
The Princess and the Frog
The Princess and the Frog (Disney animated movie): can’t remember it very well, but Anika Noni Rose has a fantastic voice, and I loved Tiana’s practicality, optimism, and kindness
The Prince of the Pond, by Donna Jo Napoli: can’t remember it either (read it in third grade) but basically it’s about how the prince turns into a frog and starts a family with another frog (the story is told from her perspective). I do remember that the ending made me so sad, though
Sleeping Beauty
Sleeping Beauty (Disney movie): can’t remember it at all either, except for: 1) Once Upon a Dream (a brilliant song) and 2) forget pink or blue. I liked her grey dress the most
Spindle’s End, by Robin McKinley: the story was told in such an interesting way (the animals! the way she wrote about love and protecting the people you love and self-sacrifice in familial and platonic relationships!) with Robin McKinley’s beautiful style
East of the Sun, West of the Moon
East, by Edith Pattou: I was obsessed with this book in elementary school. Obsessed. I kept rereading it over and over again because I just loved it so much. It’s been a few years since I’ve read it, but I can remember certain scenes (Rose entering the ballroom for the first time, the white bear’s hulking figure in the doorway, the architecture of the hall where she washes the shirt, her fingers running over the wax, the reunion scene) so vividly as if it had been a movie instead of a book, or if I’d actually been there, experiencing what Rose was experiencing
Orpheus and Eurydice (which kind of counts)
Hadestown (the Broadway musical, the original cast, AND Anais Mitchell’s original concept album): I’ve talked about it so much I probably shouldn’t even start slkfjsdl;kfjlk; I just wanted an excuse to mention it again
Tam Lin
Fire and Hemlock, by Diana Wynne Jones: I loved it when I first read it but I was so confused and so fascinated by it.
The Snow Queen
Frozen (Disney animated movie): no (insert heart emoji)
And contemporary(?) books that are considered modern classics, if not modern fairy tales (depends on how you look at it, really):
Peter Pan
Peter Pan (Disney animated movie): a childhood favourite!!!
Peter and the Starcatchers, by Dave Barry: the whole series is so much fun (and they’re among some of the funniest books I’ve read). This one serves as a sort of prequel to Peter Pan, but it’s safer to say that Dave Barry reimagined the whole story.
Peter and the Starcatcher (Broadway play adaptation of the book, which is a reimagining of the original Peter Pan..... yeah): the source material is incredibly funny, so naturally the play adaptation makes you laugh until your sides feel ready to split (I mean!! You have Christian Borle as Black Stache, Adam Chanler Berat as Peter, Celia Keenan-Bolger as Molly..... they’re all brilliant) The script, the way the cast makes use of the set and props, the perfect comic delivery....... love it
Finding Neverland, a musical adaptation of the movie (the A.R.T. production with Jeremy Jordan as James Barrie): the music is so good, and the way they write about the value of looking at the world through the eyes of a child?? of seeing the beauty in everything?? of hope and imagination and wonder?? If it weren’t for the way it handles adultery (even emotionally cheating!) and divorce :( but Laura Michelle Kelly is absolutely enchanting, and the script is also incredibly funny and heartwarming
Tiger Lily, by Jodi Lynn Anderson: a twisted fairy tale... it was quite disturbing at times, but it was also beautiful and heartbreaking. It’s a darker take on the story, which I tend not to like (at all), but the way it explored Tiger Lily and Peter was quite interestng
The Wizard of Oz
WIcked, the Stephen Schwartz musical--I haven’t read the book: as far as retellings-about-the-villain-of-the-original-story goes this one is my favourite. It is another twisted fairy tale, though, and there’s a constant undercurrent of doom and dread, even in the motifs Stephen Schwartz uses... the ending is not completely happy, but the music is FANTASTIC (Mr. Schwartz also did The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Prince of Egypt!!)
Alice in Wonderland
Alice in Wonderland (Disney movie): another childhood favourite... I also haven’t seen this one in over ten years, but I can still remember specific scenes very clearly in my head
Alice by Heart: a musical about a girl called Alice Spencer whose coping mechanism (quite literally) is Alice in Wonderland. She knows it by heart (again. Literally) and she dives into the world as a form of escapism (LITERALLY. There’s even a song at the end where the characters acknowledge how unhealthy this is). There’s a lot about growing up, losing a loved one, learning to let go... about self-deception and grief and the control one has over one’s life (unfortunately it IS subtly antagonistic towards Christianity at times)..... i do wish that writers didn’t have to treat sexual maturity as the most prominent/interesting part of coming-of-age stories, though. The characters, the set and lighting and costume design (BRILLIANT, by the way!!!!)... all wonderful. But the strangely sexual references can be a bit uncomfortable. (Really!! You can tell a coming-of-age story WITHOUT that stuff, you know!!!!!)
That Disney Movie directed by Tim Burton: wouldn’t recommend. Alice doesn’t need to be a warrior. (At ALL.)
Would also like to mention: Princess Tutu :)
