Postcards from Ukraine to members of Congress – a suggestion 💡 🇺🇦 🇺🇸 📮
It's clear that House Speaker Mike Johnson is acting on orders from Donald Trump to prevent a Senate bill which includes aid to Ukraine from getting a vote in the House of Representatives. Johnson is a craven careerist who would sell his mother into slavery to please Trump.
The Senate bill ("Emergency National Security Supplemental Appropriations Act") could still be taken up – and would almost certainly pass – if just a handful of Republicans from moderate districts decided to support a parliamentary procedure called a "discharge petition" in order to bypass Speaker Johnson.
There are 17 Republicans in the House of Representatives in 2022 who won in congressional districts where Joe Biden had beaten Donald Trump in 2020. These Republicans from moderate districts would be a good grouping to entreat to support the discharge petition. A number of them have already expressed support for Ukraine in the past. It's a matter of getting them to put conscience ahead of their fear of Trump.
Below is a list of addresses of the district offices of those 17 Republican Representatives. If you are in Ukraine, buy a postcard and clearly write a short message which tells how you love freedom and how Putin's illegal war has affected you. It can be in English or Ukrainian. Use a Ukrainian stamp for postage and mail it as soon as possible.
Individuals need pick just 1 of the 17. But schools, businesses, clubs, and military units with at least 17 people can arrange to send one to each of the listed Representatives.
Be polite but urgent. Perhaps remind them that Ronald Reagan understood the dangers of Russian imperialism.

FAQ
Why physical mail instead of email or phone calls? There's an enormous chance that your email would end up in a spam folder. Also, the Congressional email system tends to prioritize email originating from the districts of each individual House member. Phone calls from outside the US are likely to be filtered out. Unlike email or phone calls, a physical piece of mail has a real world presence. The recipient has to do something with it. You can't simply press DELETE to get rid of it.
Why postcards and not letters? For security reasons. It takes less time and effort to inspect a postcard than a letter or parcel. Your mail will arrive sooner.
Why use postage stamps instead of a postage meter? You want the recipient to know that you are REALLY from Ukraine. Using official Ukrainian stamps is a simple way to do that. When people see Україна or Ukraina on the stamp then they will know it originated in Free Ukraine. FYI: the letter Ї does not exist in Russian, recipients should look for this on the stamp. Also, your stamp automatically turns the postcard into a collector's item. It is more likely to be saved and to serve as a continuing reminder of your urgent request.
Why send the postcards to district offices instead of offices in Washington? Postcards from Ukraine will get more attention locally by local staff; if a sizable number arrive, it might even get mentioned in local media. In Washington, people tend to be more blasé about such things.
What is the proper form of address for House members? Rep. or Representative before the surname – no distinction based on gender.
FOR REFERENCE: Here are electoral stats for the districts. The column marked R margin indicates the size of each Representative's winning margin in 2022. Rep. Duarte, for example, beat his Democratic opponent by a very narrow 0.4%

Fugitive Wirecard COO Jan Marsalek wasn’t just responsible for Germany’s largest financial fraud in history. He was also a decade-long Russian spy.
In the city of Lipetsk, 300 miles south of Moscow, stands a yellow chapel. Somewhat out of place next to a modern mirrored-window building, situated on the lip of a roundabout, the 200 year-old Church of Holy Transfiguration caters to the faithful of a large mining town that dates back to the era of Peter the Great. Inside, Father Konstantin Baiazov performs the customary rites and rituals for his flock. Dark and bearded, with a short, military-style buzz cut, the church’s archpriest’s routine is standard – services twice a day. Father Konstantin inherited the job — and the calling — from his own father, a revered Orthodox priest who, as local legend goes, had challenged the authority of the formidable KGB during Soviet times.
Konstantin, the father of three, used to travel abroad. He liked visiting Europe, and was particularly fond of Rome. However, he has not left Russia since September 2020. Since the fifth of that month, Father Baiazov’s official passport, numbered 763391844, has not belonged to a man of God. Rather, it belongs to someone who wears a different kind of white collar, looks a lot like him, and is the most wanted man in Europe.
For more than four years, Jan Marsalek, the former chief operating officer of the disgraced German financial services company Wirecard, has been living in Russia under this assumed identity, a year-long investigation by The Insider, Der Spiegel, ZDF, and Der Standard has uncovered. Wirecard, the German equivalent to PayPal was once a DAX-30 listed company, one of the wealthiest traded entities on the German stock exchange, with a valuation of $28 billion. Then came June 2020, when, in the midst of an audit, Wirecard could not locate €1.9 billion in assets it claimed were being held somewhere in the world – Russia, the United Arab Emirates or the Philippines. In fact, the money didn’t exist. Wirecard’s worth was predicated on commissions supposedly earned from three companies, Al Alam, Senjo and PayEasy, based in Dubai, Singapore and Manila, respectively. Wirecard money flowed into all three but the only documented flows in reverse existed in the German conglomerate’s imagination. Or, as the now imprisoned former CEO Markus Braun claims, it had been funneled away to a complex web of offshore accounts controlled by his then number two, Jan Marsalek.
Marsalek, the man responsible for overseeing the forging of company records, money-laundering, and extensive espionage and harassment campaigns against the journalists and speculators who exposed the enormity of Wirecard’s graft, fled in a sinuous route from Germany to Austria to Belarus to Moscow on June 19, 2020, at a moment when COVID-19 lockdowns made movement across borders more difficult than usual for ordinary citizens. But Marsalek is not only an internationally accused swindler. He is also an agent of the GRU, Russia’s military intelligence service, and he has been for the last decade. More recently, since his defection to Russia, he has also done jobs for the FSB.
The Insider’s investigation is based mainly on confidential documents, emails, and chat transcripts, as well mobile phone and travel data. Research into Marsalek’s past also included interviews conducted by our consortium partners with people close to the accused. Among these are his mother and his longtime recruiter-handler, whom Der Spiegel met up with in February at a five-star hotel in Dubai.
The never-before-told story of how the Austrian-born “whiz kid” was recruited to Russia’s largest and most notorious spy agency, the GRU, bears all the hallmarks of a genre-bending ham thriller. Sacha Baron Cohen as Bernie Madoff the Bond villain. It is a saga replete with honey traps, MiG fighter jets, erotic models, sinister ex-spooks, even more sinister mercenaries, counterfeit passports, fake priests taking Syphilis tests, and cheap disguises. More ominously, the story also involves surveillance and kidnapping plots, including surveillance targeting a member of the team that investigated Marsalek’s case, Christo Grozev.

Matt Shuham at HuffPost:
Last summer, a candidate for the New Mexico state House showed up on Nathan Jaramillo’s doorstep. Jaramillo, the Bureau of Elections administrator in Bernalillo County, said Peña had previously sent threatening emails to both himself and to others in the county. Jaramillo brushed it off, annoyed at the personal intrusion but unconcerned. Five months later, Peña, a Trump supporter who lost his election and rejected the results, was arrested and charged with organizing a string of brazen drive-by shootings targeting public officials. Jaramillo thought back to five months earlier, when the man had shown up at his doorstep. The severity of the situation “really hit me,” Jaramillo told HuffPost. “In hindsight, it was a lot more scary.” Now, Jaramillo’s office assigns ticket numbers to emails they receive, organizing them by sender and keeping tabs on the office’s responses, in the hopes of anticipating anyone who could escalate their complaints into something more serious.
But the incident with Peña — who has pleaded not guilty, and whose attorney did not respond to a request for comment — is just one scene representative of an increasingly tense era of American politics. Fueled by Trump’s lies about election theft, supporters of his have spent years threatening election workers and the democratic process — and acting upon those threats. Now, as the 2024 presidential campaign charges toward November, election offices are taking steps they’d never dreamed could be necessary. Several election officials HuffPost spoke to laid out laundry lists of upgrades — everything from ballistic windows, doors and walls to new security cameras, electronic access badges and location trackers on ballot boxes. And as the Republican Party continues to push lies about election integrity — a scripted Republican Party call last month falsely claimed there was “massive fraud” in 2020 — election officials are gearing up to protect what promises to be an even more tense presidential contest this year.
[...] Around the country, election officials are working on evacuation and “quick containment” drills for future potential envelope attacks — even just using a bucket to contain a suspicious envelope — and stocking up on masks, gloves and naloxone, just in case, said Jennifer Morrell, a former elections official in Utah and Colorado and co-founder of an election consulting group during a recent call hosted by the National Task Force on Election Crises.
[...] “Prior to 2016, it was a pretty sleepy industry. People trusted their election officials and the process,” she said. Then, Hall said, “everything changed: When you have rhetoric coming from the top, it empowers and activates people all the way down the food chain.”
[...] But election workers’ preparations for 2024 are complicated by the sheer range of security issues that could come up: Since 2020, for example, Trump supporters across the country have tried — sometimes successfully — to copy data from sensitive equipment like voting machines and ballot tabulators. In Michigan, for example, several prominent Republicans, including a former GOP nominee for state attorney general, have been charged with felonies for their roles in an alleged conspiracy to improperly gain access to ballot tabulators. In Colorado, a former county clerk faces felony charges for allegedly allowing a computer technician to get into election machines under false pretenses; information from the machines was subsequently shared at an election fraud conspiracy theory summit. The answer to these growing threats, according to election officials, is a mix of background checks, digital protections like phishing training for staff and multi-factor authentication for accessing databases, in addition to physical measures like electronic badges that allow different levels of access to observers, volunteers, election workers and government employees.
[...]
Brain Drain
For veteran election administrators, the Trump era has brought with it a troubling wave of resignations. Workers at all levels have decided theyd rather not participate in a process that, in recent years, has led some of their neighbors to think they’re part of an anti-democratic cabal. What used to be considered sleepy “clerk work” is now heavily scrutinized — and, as the Republican attacks against Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss showed, may make people vulnerable to nationwide defamation campaigns. In North Carolina, there’s been a “huge increase” in directors of elections retiring, Bowens said. And Jaramillo described “individuals that were with our office for 20-plus years [who] made the determination that they weren’t in it for the 2024 ride.” Mast said he’d seen an “incredible” number of election workers retiring or changing fields. Among elected clerks, Mast said the position has gone from one filled largely by career administrators who served lengthy tenures to one with roughly 30% turnover every four years. After the “environmental changes” of 2020, experienced clerks have begun leaving the field more often, he said. “It’s incredible to see.”
Election administration was once a sleepy nonpartisan industry, but with rampant election denialism instigated by Donald Trump and fellow right-wing bad actors, election administrators are looking to make safety upgrades before this fall's election.

Steps from the Capitol, Trump allies buy up properties to build MAGA campus | The Washington Post
At first glance, the flurry of real estate sales two blocks east of the U.S. Capitol appeared unremarkable in a city where such sales are common. In the span of a year, a seemingly unrelated gaggle of recently formed companies bought nine properties, all within steps of one another.
But the sales were not coincidental. Unbeknown to most of the sellers, the limited liability companies making the purchases — a shopping spree that added up to $41 million — are connected to a conservative nonprofit led by Mark Meadows, who was Chief of Staff to President Donald Trump. The organization has promoted MAGA stars like Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) and Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.).
The Conservative Partnership Institute, as the nonprofit is known, now controls four commercial properties along a single Pennsylvania Avenue block, three adjoining rowhouses around the corner, and a garage and carriage house in the rear alley. CPI’s aim, as expressed in its annual report, is to transform the swath of prime real estate into a campus it calls “Patriots’ Row.”
The acquisitions strike some Capitol Hill regulars as puzzling, considering that Republicans have long made a sport of denigrating Washington as a dysfunctional “swamp,” the latest evidence being a successful GOP-led effort to block local D.C. legislation to revise the city’s criminal code.
“So you don’t respect how we administer our city and then you secretly buy up chunks of it?” said Tim Krepp, a Capitol Hill resident who works as a tour guide and has written about the neighborhood’s history. “If it’s such a hellhole, go to Virginia.”
Reached on his cellphone, Edward Corrigan, CPI’s president, whose name appears on public documents related to the sales, had no immediate comment on the purchases, which were first reported by Grid News and confirmed by The Washington Post. “I’ll get back to you,” Corrigan said. He did not respond to follow-up messages.
Former senator Jim DeMint, CPI’s founder, and Meadows, a senior partner at the organization, did not respond to emails seeking comment. Cameron Seward, CPI’s general counsel and director of operations, whose name appears on incorporation documents related to the companies making the purchases, did not respond to a text or an email.
As Congress’s neighbors, denizens of the Capitol Hill neighborhood are accustomed to existing in close quarters with all varieties of official Washington. Walk the neighborhood and you might catch a glimpse of Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) or former Trump strategist Stephen K. Bannon, among those who own homes near the Capitol. The Republican and Democratic national committees both have offices in the neighborhood.
But it’s rare, if not unprecedented, for a nonprofit to purchase as many properties in such proximity and in so short a period of time as CPI has assembled through its related companies, a roster with names like Clear Plains Holdings, Brunswick Partners, Houston Group, Newpoint and Pennsylvania Avenue Holdings. The companies list Seward as an officer on corporate filings, as well as CPI’s Independence Avenue headquarters as their principal address.
Now, in what may be an only-in-Washington vista, a single Pennsylvania Avenue block is occupied by Public Citizen, the left-leaning consumer advocacy group, the Heritage Foundation, the conservative think tank, and CPI, which bought four properties through its affiliates.
In addition to the nine D.C. parcels CPI’s network has bought since January 2022, another affiliated company, Federal Investors, paid $7.2 million for a sprawling 11-bedroom retreat on the Eastern Shore. In 2020, CPI, under its own name, also spent $1.5 million for a rowhouse next to its headquarters, which it leases, a few blocks from the Capitol.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
DeMint, a former Republican congressman from South Carolina, started CPI in 2017, shortly after he was ousted as Heritage’s leader amid criticism that the think tank had become too political under his direction. Meadows joined in 2021, after working as Trump’s Chief of Staff. He was by Trump’s side during the administration’s final calamitous days, before and after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol and as the President’s allies were seeking to overturn election results.
On its 2021 tax returns, CPI reported $45 million in revenue, most of it generated through contributions and grants, and paid DeMint and Meadows compensation packages of $542,000 and $559,000, respectively. Its current offices, a three-story townhouse at the corner of Third Street and Independence Avenue SE, is a hub of GOP activity. During the chaotic lead-up to Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s election as House Speaker, dissident Republican lawmakers were observed congregating at CPI.
CPI also provides grants to a cluster of nonprofits headed by Trump allies. Former Trump adviser Stephen Miller, for example, leads America First Legal, which received $1.3 million from CPI in 2021 and bills itself as a check on “lawless executive actions and the Radical Left.”
Cleta Mitchell, an attorney who was on the call Trump made to Georgia Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger seeking to reverse votes in the 2020 election, runs what the organization bills as its “Election Integrity Network,” which has cast doubt on the validity of President Biden’s 2020 victory.
“The election was rigged,” EIN tweeted last July. “Trump won.”
CLOSE TO THE CAPITOL
At an introductory meeting in December, recalled Gerald Sroufe, an advisory neighborhood commissioner on Capitol Hill, a CPI representative said the group planned to move its headquarters to a three-story building it had bought on Pennsylvania Avenue, next to Heritage’s office. Until the pandemic forced it to close, the Capitol Lounge had occupied the 130-year-old building. The bar had served a nightly bipartisan swarm of congressional staffers and lobbyists for more than two decades.
The CPI official, Sroufe said, indicated that the group planned to use the new Pennsylvania Avenue properties to “expand” its offices and “provide new retail.” But the official made no mention of Patriots’ Row, Sroufe said, or the three rowhouses the group’s affiliates had bought around the corner on Third Street SE. All of the properties are in the neighborhood’s historic district, which protects them from being altered without city review.
“This is much grander than what we were talking about,” Sroufe said after learning from a reporter about the other purchases. “On the Hill, people are always talking about how wonderful it is to be close to the Capitol and Congress. It’s kind of like a curse.”
As in many commercial corridors hit hard by the pandemic, businesses along Pennsylvania Avenue have struggled over the past couple of years. Tony Tomelden, executive director of the Capitol Hill Association of Merchants and Professionals, said CPI could energize a strip pocked with vacant storefronts.
“I welcome any business because the only thing opening right now are marijuana shops,” said Tomelden, an H Street NE bar owner who helped open the Capitol Lounge in 1996 and, as it happens, instituted a rule that patrons could not talk politics while imbibing. “If they’re going to pay a lot of money and raise property values, I’m all for it. I don’t care about anybody’s politics as long as they pay their tab.”
In an overwhelmingly Democratic city, finding those who are less sanguine about CPI’s growing footprint is not exactly difficult.
Yet politics is only part of the issue, as far as Krepp is concerned. CPI’s purchases, he said, threaten the area’s neighborhood vibe, as would be the case if any group, no matter its ideological leaning, bought as many properties. “I don’t want to create another downtown on Capitol Hill,” he said. “There’s a glut of available office space downtown. You don’t have to buy up neighborhoods.”
Rep. Jamie B. Raskin (D-Md.), a regular commuter to the Capitol from his home in Montgomery County, sees CPI’s acquisitions in terms more political than geographic.
“It just seems like a massive real estate coming-out party for the extreme right wing of the Republican Party,” Raskin said. “This is a very explicit and well-financed statement of intent. They set out to take over the Republican Party and they’re very close to clenching the power.”
Instead of Patriots’ Row, Raskin suggested an alternative name: Seditionist Square.
“Maybe Marjorie Taylor Greene can be their advisory neighborhood commissioner,” he said.
A ‘PERMANENT BULWARK’ IN D.C.
On its 2021 tax return, CPI said its mission is to be a “platform” for the “conservative movement,” and to provide “public policy” training for “government and nonprofit staffers” and meeting space for gatherings and policy debates.
Although not required to identify donors, CPI reported seven contributions in excess of $1 million, including one of more than $25 million. Trump’s Save America political action committee gave $1 million in 2021, according to campaign finance records. Billionaire Richard Uihlein, a major Republican donor, gave $1.25 million a couple of years ago through his foundation, records show.
A CPI-related entity, the Conservative Partnership Center, rented space to two political action committees as of early January, the House Freedom Fund and Senate Conservative Fund, according to campaign finance records. CPI also received $4,000 from Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.), who has recorded his “Firebrand” podcast at the group’s studio, as has the host of the “Gosar Minute,” Rep. Paul A. Gosar (R-Ariz.), according to the group’s annual report. Greene paid CPI $437.73 for “catering for political meetings” in 2021, the records show.
“No one stood up to the Left as courageously as Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene,” CPI declared in its 2021 annual report, hailing her as a “hero” who “endured sexist fury that always lurks just beneath the progressive surface.” The report described Boebert as a “gun rights advocate” who “wants to protect our environment more than anyone else.”
It was in CPI’s 2022 annual report that the group briefly referred to its expansion plans, writing that it has strengthened “its ability to serve the movement by beginning renovations to Patriots’ Row on Pennsylvania Avenue.”
“In 2022, the Left tried to drag America further into a dark future of totalitarianism, chaotic elections and cultural decay,” the report asserts in an introduction from DeMint and Meadows. “The Washington establishment, per usual, did nothing to stop them. But neither the Left nor the establishment could stop the culture and community we’re building here at the Conservative Partnership Institute.”
“With our expanded presence in D.C.,” they add, “we’re launching CPI academy — a formal program of training for congressional staff and current and future members of the movement.”
“Even if we can’t change Washington, we can create a permanent bulwark against its worst tendencies.”
A SPATE OF SALES
CPI began its expansion in 2020, purchasing the rowhouse next door to its headquarters and christening it “The Rydin House” for Mike Rydin, a construction magnate and prominent conservative donor. When Federal Investors bought the Eastern Shore property, the group named it “Camp Rydin.”
On Capitol Hill, several property owners who sold their buildings to CPI-linked companies were surprised to learn that the buyers were connected to a group led by Meadows and DeMint.
“I did not know,” said Jacqueline Lewis, who sold a townhouse on Third Street SE to 116 Holdings for $5.1 million in July. The company’s officer, according to its corporate filing, is Seward, and the principal address it lists is the same as CPI’s headquarters. A trust document related to the transaction is signed by Corrigan, CPI’s president.
Brunswick Partners, which lists CPI and Seward as contacts on its corporate filing, bought the neighboring rowhouse for $1.8 million in January, according to property records. Brian Wise, the seller, said he did not know of the company’s CPI connection. An attorney who approached him and his wife, he said, “asked if we were willing to sell and we agreed on a price. It was a business sale.”
Keith and Amanda Catanzano also were unaware of CPI when they sold a garage in the alley behind Third Street SE to Newpoint for $1 million in June. Newpoint lists Seward as an officer and the same mailing address as CPI. “We had no idea,” said a woman who answered the phone at a number listed for the Catanzanos before hanging up.
Eric Kassoff, who sold the former site of the Capitol Lounge to Clear Plains, said he knew of the company’s CPI ties before the $11.3 million deal was finalized in January. He also sold the group a carriage house behind the building for $400,000.
Kassoff said he did not want to lease the space to a fast-food restaurant or a convenience store. He said CPI’s political leanings were not a factor in his decision to sell to the organization.
“Why would I have any issue selling my property to proud Americans?” asked Kassoff, who described himself as an independent. “We need to get past the labeling and demonizing and talk to each other, and that’s true in politics as well as commerce. If we were all to take that position we wouldn’t have much of a country left, would we?”
Although the Capitol Lounge closed more than two years ago, vestiges of its past remain on the building’s exterior, including a rendering of Benjamin Franklin beneath a quote concocted by the bar’s founder, Joe Englert: “Beer is proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy.”
James Silk, the bar’s former owner, said he left behind memorabilia when he vacated the building that could be suitable for the new owner: Richard M. Nixon campaign posters still hanging on the walls of what the owners cheekily dubbed the Nixon Room (located across from the Kennedy Room).
“Nixon is finally with his people,” Silk said. He laughed and added: “Nixon was a Republican, right?”

Creature Feature – Capturing The Curious Story Of Palworld

Creature Feature – Capturing The Curious Story Of Palworld
Tumblr media
Three words come to mind when looking at Palworld: Pokémon, absurdity, and ambition.
Since its official reveal in June 2021, Palworld has raised eyebrows with its vibrant, expansive world teeming with dozens of monsters ripe for catching but in greater fidelity than Pokémon’s recent entries. In addition to capturing them and harnessing their abilities in battle, you can also wield realistic firearms and other weapons to blast them apart or, more hilariously, arm your cuddly critters with some serious heat.
“Pokémon with guns” has become the shorthand description of Palworld, but the experience packs in survival mechanics, base-building, a central narrative, and other bells and whistles. With so many promises, some have deemed Palworld too good to be true, a sentiment its Tokyo-based developer Pocketpair finds puzzling.
Tumblr media
Chief Dev Hiroto Matsutani (right), Founder/CEO Takuro Mizobe (middle), Chief Artist Daiki Kizu (left)
“Palworld is not a ‘fake game,’” Pocketpair founder and CEO Takuro Mizobe tells me over email. “We are really surprised that some people say that.”
Palworld hits Steam Early Access in January, giving skeptical players a chance to see just how real the game is. But despite Pocketpair releasing numerous gameplay videos, an air of mystery still surrounds Palworld. How does its sizable feature list blend into a cohesive experience? Where did this wacky idea come from in the first place? Perhaps most importantly, just who the heck is Pocketpair?
The answer to the last question begins with Mizobe. A lifelong fan of video games, the NES ignited his childhood love for the medium before he graduated to the Super Nintendo. Mizobe says the turning point came when he discovered free games available through the internet in elementary school, which allowed him to sample a variety of genres easily. His broad palette is evident in his short list of all-time favorite games, which range from The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to Age of Empires to Serious Sam to Soldat, a free multiplayer action game. This exposure set him on the path of becoming an indie developer; he created his first game at 11 years old, which won awards at his school.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Fast-forward some years, and Mizobe, now a university student at the Tokyo Institute of Technology, got his first taste of professional game development by participating in the Nintendo Game Seminar. From 2005 to 2014 (with a break between ’11 and ’12), the yearly event invited Japanese game design students to learn the tricks of the trade and then work in teams to create an original title. The cream of the crop would then be released as free downloads on platforms like DS Download Play or the Wii U eShop. For the 2010 edition, Mizobe and his college friends created The Tentai Show, where players use black and white holes to absorb incoming meteors before they strike Earth. It was released as DSiWare in Japan in 2011.
In 2012, Mizobe graduated from university. He would spend a few years working “normal” jobs like JP Morgan Securities before founding Pocketpair in 2015. The team released its first title in 2019: Overdungeon, a real-time tower defense card battler that garnered a generally positive reception from players. For its second game, Pocketpair tackled something a bit more ambitious. Enter Craftopia, a game that feels like the precursor to Palworld. It, too, is a sprawling open-world survival game boasting features such as farming, crafting, dungeon crawling, base-building, pet breeding, and multiplayer. Craftopia has been playable in Steam Early Access since 2020, so it’s technically still in development. Despite this, Pocketpair is tackling perhaps its most ambitious title yet in Palworld.
Tumblr media
Mizobe tells me Pocketpair develops games in a style that borrows ideas from others the team enjoys playing. Overdungeon takes clear influence from Slay the Spire and Clash Royale, while Craftopia has elements of Zelda, Harvest Moon, and a litany of survival games. Palworld draws from games like Pokémon, Age of Empires, Grand Theft Auto, Elden Ring, Valheim, and Fortnite to create what Mizobe calls a “unique gaming experience that is different from existing games.”
Palworld unfolds on the Palpagos Island in the Pacific Ocean. Strange monsters called Pals, of over 100 varieties, occupy this tropical land undiscovered by humankind for generations. That eventually changed, and now various factions have set up shop in pursuit of their own interests. Players control an explorer who washes ashore on the island following a shipwreck. Thus, survival is your primary goal, and you need the Pals’ help to accomplish this.
Tumblr media
Pals are based on real animals and cultural myths from places like Europe, China, and Egypt. They come in several attributes: Neutral, Flame, Water, Grass, Electric, Frost, Earth, Dark, and Dragon. Resistances and vulnerabilities follow the rock/paper/scissor format of Pokémon: Water is resistant to Flame, for example. However, Pals can learn attacks opposite their types, so you can teach a Flame move to a Water Pal. Players can also breed Pals to create new species. This opens the door to a plethora of possible combinations, and while not all of them result in a completely new creature, others carry the traits of their parents. Mizobe says designing so many uniquely talented Pals, including the long list of breeding offspring, has been the most formidable development challenge.
Pals roam freely, with players catching them by blasting them with weapons, like guns, to weaken them. After that, you toss a blue spherical device to capture targets. Pals can then be used in battle, and the number you can use at a time varies depending on the situation. You can let Pals handle combat by issuing commands or picking them up and using them like living firearms. Pals also come with their own unique partner skills and abilities.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Your non-living arsenal includes clubs, bows, and spears to heavy gun weapons like shotguns, ARs, miniguns, and rocket launchers. As effective as these killing machines can be, some Pals can’t be beaten using conventional weaponry. Pocketpair doesn’t elaborate, only teasing that these sturdier Pals require more clever methods to defeat them.
Outside of battle, you can put Pals to work farming crops to cook beneficial dishes and constructing buildings and factories to create settlements. In fact, some Pals are better specialized for labor than fighting. Trailers have shown assembly lines of cute critters building weapons and looking decidedly unhappy about it. This plays into the game’s dark humor. You’re free to be a jerk by, for example, illegally poaching them in forbidden zones, attracting the attention of a corrupt police force that monitors the island. Mizobe tells me morality doesn’t factor into the storytelling, so if you want a (mostly) consequence-free excuse to be a monster, go right ahead.
Tumblr media
Regarding survival mechanics, Palpagos features a day/night cycle and changing climate, meaning you need to cope with uncomfortably hot or cold temperatures. With all these spinning plates, Pocketpair tells me the general gameplay loop looks like this: You craft vital tools, gather resources, build a base, explore some more, perhaps fight a boss along the way, and repeat. In between that, you catch Pals since they’re necessary for almost every facet of play.
Additionally, multiplayer allows players to explore Palworld together. Up to four friends can play normally, but dedicated servers support over 20. With so much going on, Mizobe tells me feature creep has often reared its ugly head. Thus, cutting ideas to prevent Palworld from becoming bloated and unfocused has been an ongoing challenge. “At the beginning, we thought about having a huge underground world and the ability to live in outer space, but we decided to give up on these for the time being,” says Mizobe.
Tumblr media
According to Mizobe, Palworld carries lessons learned from the studio’s previous efforts. Mainly, simply mashing together disparate genres isn’t enough and should be done carefully. Pocketpair had trouble defining the rules of Overdungeon because it was so focused on replicating the RTS elements of Clash Royale. Craftopia had so many ideas that some mechanics clashed, which the team is still correcting.
“Palworld is being made with the awareness that ‘we are working through difficult game design problems in order to keep the consistency of each genre,’” Mizobe writes. “We try to not tackle too much at the same time while being focused on meeting the players’ expectations. We’ve made a lot of mistakes along the way, but overall, we think it turned out well in the end.”
Tumblr media
We can only hope that the team continues to zero in on what makes Palworld click, even if they still have some more tough decisions to make in the long road ahead.
“We recently noticed the potential for a PvP mode in this game and are now reconsidering if we should expand on it,” says Mizobe. “That has us facing a difficult challenge again. Game development is always difficult.”

Hello!
I am interested in getting my pup involved in a sport* and possibly a breed club. Your posts about that world have helped build the courage I needed to explore this world, so I wanted to ask a few questions.
I've been looking into the breed clubs for my dog, and there are a few large ones, but nothing obvious in my area. I suspect some of these issues are breed related - he's a Pomsky - but am hoping that I'm just not looking effectively. With that in mind, I had two questions for you:
1. How do you vet a breed club? Or, when you are looking at different options, what factors do you take into account?
2. How do you find local clubs? I have tried mostly various Google searches, as well as checking the individual larger associations for local chapters with no luck.
Thank you! I appreciate your time and knowledge. (photo of the boy in question attached)
Tumblr media
*We have tried some agility and some scent but haven't committed significant time to either one yet, he is enthusiastic about both. He is enthusiastic about most activities.
What a cutie! Welcome to dogworld!
You didn't say what country you are in, so since I am American, I will answer using American clubs since that is what I am familiar with. People in other countries are very welcome to weigh in.
Also, for full disclosure, I consider myself still a noob in the breed/sport club world. I've been a member of terv club since 2017 and a board member since 2020. I joined dachshund club in 2021 and left at the end of 2022. I've been in an agility club since... 2020? 2019? I'm an honorary member of a racing club but don't pay dues so don't have voting rights. I was in a couple of obedience clubs in 2011/2012 but quit because I find competitive obedience boring. So I don't have tons of experience, but I'll share what I know.
Placing this under a cut because it got long!
If you're interested in joining a breed club, their first goal is going to be the preservation and celebration of the breed. What that means will vary from club to club. Some are focused purely on conformation, others will include sports and/or celebration of the breed's historical use. Some breed clubs only allow members that are active breeders. So that will be something to look into when you're checking them out.
There are also clubs that don't focus on one specific breed and are instead dedicated to one or more sports. It's a great way to get involved with people who enjoy the same activities that you do.
In the US, there are two levels of breed club. There is the national level (example: American Belgian Tervuren Club, or Dachshund Club of America), and then the local clubs (may be by state, county, city, etc.). A good way to find local clubs is by going onto the national club website and seeing if there are any in your state. Depending on the rarity of the breed and the size of the state, there may be zero or more than one. Then you can just use the contact info listed on the website to email the club and ask if you can come to an event.
To find a local sports club, I googled "agility club [city]" to find one close to me. You can go to events that they host to see how they run things.
You can also go onto AKC's website to see what agility (or other sport) events are being held in your area to see what clubs are hosting. If any of the clubs look interesting, you can contact them. (You can also do this for CPE, NADAC, USDAA, etc., and other sports venues.)
Also, never underestimate word of mouth. Talk to your trainer and fellow students about being interested in joining a club. They may have ideas! Go to dog events and talk to exhibitors and workers (when they aren't busy). I have landed every single one of my really good trainers via word of mouth, not google. Recommendations count for a lot. If you're nervous, that's okay! Everyone was new once, and I have found people to be largely super helpful and kind.
For vetting... I don't know. XD I want a tervuren, so I cold emailed terv club and they invited me to a tracking event. They were extremely welcoming and enthusiastic about their breed, and about me joining. The club is very tightly run, with quarterly newsletters, frequent meetings (both in person and via zoom), and a variety of events and fun days every year. Even though I don't have a terv yet, they have featured both Bindi and Kermit in their newsletters, and take an active interest in Kermit's competition career.
I attended a few dachshund club field trials and then applied to join. The club is very poorly run, both passively and actively hostile to new members, and the people are gatekeepy and incompetent. I've been involved in dogworld for over a decade at this point so I am deeply unimpressed. So I left.
So basically all you can do is go to events and see if the people seem like assholes or not. XD And if they are, don't let it get under your skin. The problem does not lie with you; it's with the asshole. For some reason some hardcore dog people (in conformation and in sports) feel threatened by new blood, so they feel like they need to lash out to feel powerful. They are not worth your time.
And even though there are assholes out there, there are also really wonderful and kind people. I've met so many good people through dogs. It might take a bit of searching, but you can find your group. It's worth it.
Good luck! I hope you have fun, and wish you and your buddy the best of luck!

Mr. Piggy
Howdy!
Pretty brief one this week. You may've seen that Feb 1 was Hourly Comics Day. This is an annual event where people make a comic every hour. Lots of them are super short--a panel or two--and often biographical. I participated and what I've wrought can only be described as Mr. Piggy.
Apologies to Alec "Mr. Boop" Robbins, Jim Henson, and Lizzo. Know that the recommended soundtrack is a canned laugh track repeating at a regular interval that cannot distinguish from the comedy and the drama.

If anyone has a good recommendation for a therapist in the San Diego area that takes Anthem, my inbox is open! I know hard it can be to be kind to yourself, to treat yourself well, to do things you need to to not have bad brain days and find balance in your emotions when things are, genuinely, very bad in the world. But it's worth it to try.
Thanks! David
P.S. A funny little work story from this week. I was emailing with a creator who works under a pseudonym, and they mentioned that in reference to how their paperwork would have a different name. I'm looking at it and I'm like "Whoa, no wonder. It must be really hard being named Wells Fargo." I was, of course, looking at their bank information and am dumb.
What I enjoyed this week: Blank Check (Podcast), Honkai Impact (Video game), House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (Book), Persona 4 Golden (Video game), Poker Face (TV show), our new mattress, receiving mail, Dungeons & Daddies (Podcast), Barry (TV show), Genshin Impact (Manga--I finally went and caught up on that from a couple of years ago), other people's Hourly Comics.
New Releases this week (2/1/2022): Off week for my books!
New releases next week (2/8/2022): Godzilla: Monsters & Protectors - All Hail the King #5 (Editor) Sonic the Hedgehog #57 (Editor) Sonic the Hedgehog, Vol. 13: Battle for the Empire (Editor, collecting Sonic #50, 51, the 2022 Annual, and I think the 2022 Free Comic Book Day short?)
Final Order Cutoff (2/6/2023): Sonic the Hedgehog: The IDW Collection, Vol. 3 (Editor, collecting Sonic #21-32 and the 2020 Annual)
Announcements: Arizona Comic Book Arts Festival - 2/25! Just a couple more weeks! They've got a heckuva guest list including me, Becca, Elizabeth Brei, Danny Djeljosevic, Mitch Gerads, Steve Rude, John Layman, Henry Barajas, Jay Fotos, Jeff Mariotte, Marcy Rockwell, John Yurcaba, Andrew MacLean, Alexis Zirrit, Meredith McClaren, James Owen, Ryan Cody, and many more! Come and see us! Becca'll have some very cool new merch, too! And tickets are only $10!
Speaking of Becca, did you know they have a Patreon? They're doing weekly drawing prompts that're uploading Sundays, so lots of new stuff up there as well as a pretty impressive backcatalog from the past few years. This month, if you sign-up at any level, your support's actually going to a really amazing local organization, The Brown Building.
And final Becca news, they contributed to Aradia Beat, a Magical Girl Anthology Magazine! It's now on Kickstarter! It's both a tribute to 90s magical girl stories and part of a larger project about the overall preservation and mutual support of magical girl stories! There're two weeks left to back, so throw some money their way to make this happen and tell your friends!

“DOCUMENT REQUESTS AND SUBPOENAS AND DEPOSITIONS”: GOP REPORTEDLY PLANNING A WAR AGAINST BIG TECH
Tumblr media
Representative Jim Banks, a Republican from Indiana, speaks at the U.S. Capitol on Aug. 24, 2021. STEFANI REYNOLDS/BLOOMBERG
Conservative operatives and think tankers have been scheming with congressional staffers on ways to put Big Tech under a microscope if they win back control of Congress, Axios reports.
BY CALEB ECARMA
Silicon Valley will reportedly be a top target on the GOP’s revenge list if Republicans take back control of Congress in the midterms. Conservative operatives and think tankers met with Republican congressional staff to strategize ways to launch investigations into platforms like Facebook, Google, and Twitter, Axios reported Wednesday—a window into how Republicans intend to put the full weight of government behind their outrage toward mainstream social media platforms and search giants, which they contend are using algorithms to manipulate Americans against conservatives.
Big Tech companies are “going to be subject to document requests and subpoenas and depositions,” Heritage Foundation’s Mike Howell, who leads the Heritage Foundation’s Oversight Project, and used last month’s retreat to help train Republican aides on how to utilize the Freedom of Information Act, told Axios. Notably, Howell said he’s advising Republicans to take cues from Democrats’ tactics on the January 6 select committee, which has used its subpoena powers to probe phone, bank, and email records to get a fuller picture of the Trump-fueled attacks on the Capitol. “It’s really a whole new frontier that has been opened with a whole bevy of new tactics and techniques, which were once thought out of bounds,” he said. “They’re now going to be a tool in the hands of the other side.”
According to Axios, groups like Conservative Partnership Institute (CPI), the American Accountability Foundation (AAF), and the Heritage Foundation hosted the two-day strategy retreat last month. Attendees included, a staffer for GOP House leadership prospect Representative Jim Banks of Indiana, as well as aides to senators Rick Scott, Mike Braun, and Pat Toomey. Alexa Walker, the Banks aide and the Republican Study Committee’s coalitions director, and Scott Gast, a former senior Trump aide, reportedly held a discussion on how Republicans can coordinate congressional oversight probes with third-party investigative groups. The conservative activists and think tankers at the retreat also reportedly discussed building a more robust legal strategy. According to Axios, Gene Hamilton, a former top aide in Trump’s Justice Department who now serves on the board of America First Legal Foundation, a legal group formed by ex-Trump officials aimed at helping push a conservative agenda through the courts, also illustrated how to use the federal judicial system to advance these investigations.
Republicans zeroed in on Big Tech entities like Meta, Alphabet, and Twitter under Donald Trump, a sentiment that reached a fever pitch in the aftermath of Trump’s 2020 defeat, when top Republican figures, such as Senator Josh Hawley and Governor Ron DeSantis, claimed these companies were rigged against conservatives. Last year, Hawley introduced an antitrust bill designed to break up “Woke Big Tech companies like Google and Amazon” and limit the “colossal amounts of power…they use to censor political opinions they don’t agree with.” In his 2021 book, The Tyranny of Big Tech, Hawley delineated that Meta chief Mark Zuckerberg and Amazon founder Jeff Bezos are the robber barons of the Information Age, accusing them of infecting the media ecosystem with “corporate liberalism” and adding, “Big Tech and Big Government seek to extend their influence over every area of American life.”
DeSantis, a potential Republican presidential choice in 2024, signed statewide legislation in Florida last year that claimed to ban Big Tech from “deplatforming” Floridian political candidates, an apparent counterpunch to Meta and Twitter banning Trump from their platforms following the Capitol riot. A federal court shot down the law last month, a decision that the Florida governor could still appeal.
The U.S. Supreme Court also just blocked a Texas social media law on Tuesday that sought to punish social media platforms for removing political speech based on viewpoint. The law, which Governor Greg Abbott signed and has defended by accusing platforms like Facebook and Twitter of conspiring “to silence conservative viewpoints,” was blocked in a 5–4 emergency decision. Justices Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, and Samuel Alito filed a written dissent that called for upholding the law. The Supreme Court may rule on the Texas law again in the future, as the Fifth Circuit panel is expected to uphold it in contradiction to the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.
Despite the legal setbacks, it seems that the issue could soon return to the fore in congressional hearing rooms.

Ethash Miners Ethereum Miner Best Ethereum Mining Softwares 2021
It can only be obtained from exchanges corresponding to Binance, Coinbase or FTX. This remains a common concern for every ETH miners as they only have limited time to earn the return on their funding. Get began with 2miners, Ethashpool, IceMining, Mining Dutch, Nanopool, Zergpool, Zpool, or any of the opposite pools. View long-term mining history, generate charts and export CSV-data to Excel for even more highly effective knowledge processing and visualization. Use the highly effective built-in C# script engine to create personalized triggers and actions. Lastly, it is probably that a substantial quantity of S17s and T17s suffered heat harm from previous house owners who ran overclocking software, or who ran turbo mode on the S17 Pro. Thus secondhand items might break extra easily because of harsh wear and tear. The ASIC miner can now be assembled after the elements have been delivered and examined. The components are all prebuilt, besides, putting them collectively will require some technical know-how and understanding of how an ASIC miner operates. Email to find out about advanced features similar to 4G/LTE connectivity, WiFi connectivity, 240V/120V Transformer PDUs, high-powered 80A single part PDUs and more. SynLink PDUs can be configured to detect, report, and act on overcurrent detections. When the S9 arrived, many miners upgraded, thereby flooding the market with comparatively cheap used S7 devices. He touted the project to be open-source so that mining could possibly be accessible to all. They do not break down often, and they are very fashionable with miners. The S19, S19 Pro, and T19 have been launched in 2020, and the S19j and S19a got here out in 2021. Nonetheless, S19j Pros are still highly sought after for a similar causes as the S19 Pro. It uses high-performing 5nm chips, has an excellent power efficiency ranking amongst ASIC miners, and is used widely within the mining trade. This makes it a good balance between performance and efficiency, which stands at an impressive 26 J/TH. Always suppose twice about pre-ordering bitcoin mining machines from any provider. Unfortunately this industry has plenty of ‘noise’, and delays, cancelled batches, and scams do happen. Several corporations are said to be releasing SHA-256 bitcoin miners sooner or later. None of these were included in our Best Bitcoin Miner in 2021 desk above, but when released most of those mining rigs would make the list. Combined with a drastically improved boot time and person expertise because of the up to date firmware, it may be thought of the most effective Bitcoin miner on the listing. Unlike M30S++, it uses a 7nm TSMC chipset, much like the most recent technology of non-mining AMD Ryzen CPUs. The following desk reveals that virtually all of the most trendy machines could stay worthwhile at a bitcoin value between $5000 and $6000. https://outletminers.com/contact/ might deal with a drop beneath $5k, if they're being run with electricity that prices under $0.05 kWh. The pc may also be configured to behave as a monitoring software utilizing one of the many purposes out there for this function. In order to mine with a GPU, you will want to install some type of mining software within the pc housing the GPU. Back then Claymore was considered as the most effective and the most reliable software program for mining Ethereum. The biggest advantage it had was the twin mining possibility where you probably can mine ETH and other cash such as Decred, Lbry, Pascal or Siacoin concurrently. It doesn’t mater which pool you would possibly be mining and what reward system the pool makes use of (PPS or PPLNS). Also it doesn’t matter if the miner is closed supply with dev fees or open supply with no charges. A cost-effective methodology of mining cryptocurrencies is to build an ASIC miner from scratch. It’s crucial to assess the steps involved to determine whether this selection is acceptable earlier than investing within the required elements. Most of today's ASIC miner energy supplies are designed with inputs rated at 20A max. Subsequently, all internal electronics and energy cords attached to those power provides are designed to handle 20A max. For this cause, it's essential to have an an overcurrent safety device (OCPD) that will journey the circuit when the current exceeds 20A. This characteristic effectively controls overheating, permitting for uninterrupted mining sessions of over 72 hours. Equipped with the SHA-256 algorithm, the Antminer S19 XP is well-suited for Bitcoin mining, recognized for its security and sooner block puzzle-solving capabilities. This algorithm is widely recognized and trusted within the business, providing resistance against pre-image and second pre-image attacks, in addition to collision resistance. Now that you’re acquainted with the essential ideas (in case you didn’t know them) let’s see which ASIC miners are most profitable. We help mining of all cash for algorithms which may be obtainable for mining a certain algorithm. With over 300 cash and 400 multi-algo pool choices, we also present estimated earnings calculations. Get probably the most out of your ASIC mining rigs with ASIC Hub's advanced monitoring and management software program. Our intuitive platform allows you to easily monitor and optimize your mining performance, supplying you with a aggressive edge in the trade. Streamline your cryptocurrency mining operation with ASIC Hub - the industry-leading software for monitoring and managing your ASIC machines. Finally, a crypto wallet must be created to store cryptocurrency block rewards. BFGMiner is based upon our earlier decide, CGMiner, but is designed specifically for ASIC mining hardware. The shopper can be appropriate with FPGA (Field-Programmable Gate Array) gadgets and can be configured to work with some graphics cards – but it's not straightforward to make a profit from these. Mining is worthwhile with an ASIC, as their sole function and design are primarily based on mining cryptocurrency given their top-range efficiency.

Email List Management Certification Information Before I share with you how to join, let’s be brutally honest about copywriting. The life of a copywriter is stressful: You have to fight for jobs that dozens of other highly qualified writers are applying for. You hope & pray that you get chosen. Usually, you don’t If the client does reach out to you, they haggle you down on your per email rate or want you to work hourly. They don’t usually pay you 100% up front. Then you work on writing the emails in a Google Doc & turn them in on time. Then the client asks you to make a bunch of revisions. It’s something little that probably won’t make a difference. But you keep going back & forth to make them happy. Sometimes they even ask you for extra little favors. When you follow up about getting paid, the client doesn’t give you a straight answer. Maybe they pay you. Maybe they don’t. You never find out how your work performed. Which means you can’t get paid rev share, even if your copy CRUSHES for them. So you vow to never work with that client again. And even if the project does go well, they usually don’t need your services again for awhile. Which means you have to spend more time trying to find another client to replace them. And the cycle repeats itself over & over & over. You live a life of feast or famine. Some months are great, others, not so much. In fact, you spend more time hunting for new copywriting clients than you do working. Which doesn’t pay the bills. My name is Troy Ericson… … And if you can relate to any of what I just said, I’m going to show you how to stop working with ‘little league’ clients… And build true & lasting partnerships with REAL businesses who happily pay $2-5k/mo for Email List Management. I’ve used Email List Management to collect over $3,640,000 in my business since 2020. Now, I’m not promising that you’ll make that much. In fact, most people won’t. BUT… I do have a LOT of students who use Email List Management to get amazing results for their clients… and make $10k, $15, or even $19k per month: I’ll show you more success stories in a moment… But first, you’re probably wondering how we do it. Me & my students use a strategy called ‘Email List Management’, which works like this: Get paid $2-5k PER month, up FRONT. Sign into the client’s ESP (where they send emails from) Write that day’s email. Do a quick ‘deliverability check’. Send the email. Repeat each day for 1 month. At the end of the month, get paid rev share bonuses. Client pays you up front for month #2. Rinse & Repeat for months or years to come. It really is that simple. What You’ll Learn In This Course? Troy has served clients like Traffic & Funnels, The Sales Mentor, Rich Schefren, REPP Sports, V-Shred, Joel Erway, Alex Cattoni, Ezra Firestone, SmartMarketer, Perry Belcher, 10X Advisor Network, David Meltzer, Sam Ovens, Jason Capital, Ryan Stewman, and hundreds more. He was also ranked as the #20 Copywriter in the world by Peter Tzemis from Traffic & Funnels. Troy & his team are based in St. Petersburg, Florida. After his college baseball career, Troy started in Facebook Ads & realized that his clients who struggled were not actually struggling with their ads – but rather with monetizing the leads from their ads. That’s when Troy started writing successful email copy for clients, but realized how damaged & difficult the relationship was between copywriters & business owners. Copywriting was so one-dimensional & most copywriters did not understand deliverability, strategy, or automation. That’s when Troy added those components to his copywriting service, which became Email List Management. Today, Troy & his team have helped their clients sell an additional $50MM while creating a $2MM company themselves. How To Write A Skills Based Resume
A skills-based resume, also known as a functional resume, emphasizes your skills and expertise rather than your chronological work history. This format is especially useful for people who have gaps in their employment, are changing careers, or want to highlight specific skills that aren't evident in a chronological resume.
Here's a step-by-step guide on how to craft a skills-based resume:
1. Choose the Right Format
Start with your name and contact information, including your phone number, email address, and optionally, a LinkedIn profile writing or personal website.
2. Write a Strong Summary or Objective
This should be a concise statement that explains your professional goals and what you aim to bring to a potential employer. Highlight your top skills or experiences that make you suitable for the job.
Example: "Tech-savvy project manager with a strong background in digital marketing and team leadership. Seeking to leverage my skills in a fast-paced environment."
3. List Key Skills
Before you delve deep into the skills sections, it's beneficial to provide a quick bullet-pointed list of your top skills. This provides a snapshot to potential employers.
Example:
Digital Marketing
Team Leadership
Project Management
Data Analysis
4. Detail Your Skills and Competencies
This is the core of a skills-based resume. Organize this section into skill categories that are relevant to the job you're applying for.
Skill Category 1: Digital Marketing
Managed multiple online advertising campaigns, resulting in a 15% increase in sales.
Developed and implemented SEO strategies that boosted website traffic by 30% in six months.
Skill Category 2: Team Leadership
Led a team of 10 to execute marketing campaigns, consistently completing projects ahead of deadlines.
Organized team-building events that improved departmental communication and productivity.
Remember to use specific examples and quantify your achievements where possible.
5. Optional: Work History
While the emphasis is on skills, some employers still value a snapshot of your work history. List your past roles and companies in reverse chronological order, but you don't need to detail your responsibilities. This section can be concise.
Example:
Digital Marketing Manager, XYZ Company, 2020-2023
Team Lead, ABC Enterprises, 2018-2020
6. Education
As with traditional resumes, include your educational background by listing the degrees you've earned, where you studied, and the graduation dates.
Example:
Bachelor of Business Administration, University of Example, 2017
7. Additional Sections (Optional)
Depending on the job and industry, you may wish to add other sections like certifications, workshops, publications, languages spoken, or volunteer experience.
8. Proofread and Format
Ensure your resume is free of errors. Consistency in formatting – in terms of fonts, bullet points, and headings – is vital. A clean, easy-to-read resume writing service can leave a lasting impression.
9. Customize for Each Job Application
Always tailor your resume for the specific role you're applying for. Highlight the skills most relevant to that position and ensure they match the job description.
Lastly, always couple your skills-based resume with a strong cover letter, which can further detail your suitability and passion for the role.

Introduction
Now, it feels like the future of digital marketing is here. And it’s interesting to see which trends are developed and how they keep evolving. Building a fully immersive experience for brands will be a key area of growth for marketers over the next few years. In the next twenty years, digital technology will continue to evolve. The digital generation that grew up with computers, smartphones and the internet is now mature and in their prime earning years. They’re leading trends in how we access content and interact with brands.
Here we complied some of upcoming Trends in digital marketing world:
Chatbots And Artificial Intelligence (AI)
Chatbots and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies are redefining the way businesses engage with customers. Replacing old-fashioned marketing tactics, these technologies allow brands to market themselves better, answer customer queries in real time, predict user trends and assist customers through complex banking procedures. A prominent example of AI-powered chatbot is Bank of America’s Erica intelligent assistant that helps customers with their banking requests. Chatbots are the future of digital marketing. And how smart they’re going to get in the next few years is anybody’s guess. However, if we keep the examples of some successful chatbots in mind, such as Bank of America’s digital assistant Erica and Google Assistant/Siri, then we can predict what’s on the horizon for chatbots. All this proves that chatbots have a transformative power and deserve our attention.
Era Of Augmented Reality And AI
Next up on the list is Augmented Reality (AR). Augmented reality is predicted to outpace virtual reality in 2020, which makes it another popular digital marketing trend for 2023. Augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence (AI) are two very important technologies that can make a huge impact on digital marketing. Both AI and AR have been around for a while now, with the first AI system dating back to 1956 and the first AR application was developed in 1968. However, the technologies are still very young and have a lot of potential. Businesses are already starting to use AI and AR in their products or services, some even already offer their customers unique experience that goes far beyond just offering bits of information. Because it is a deliverable that enables organisations to reach out to millions of people at once, augmented reality will experience the greatest adoption in the marketing sector. This can be accomplished organically, and even better, it can be done affordably.
Private Messaging Apps
We haven’t even begun to scratch the surface of a brand-new area of digital marketing: private chat applications. With each passing day, the user bases for these applications expand and they gain in popularity. For instance, more than 1.5 billion users worldwide uses WhatsApp whereas Viber and WeChat both have more than 500 million users. It’s time for marketers to begin properly using these channels into their marketing plans. Chatbots, personalized content, and influencer marketing will drive the future of digital marketing. Chatbots can be used to interact with your customers when they contact you on social media or by email. This allows you to push personalized information to your clients when they need it most, rather than relying on them to find the answers themselves. You can also advertise through influencers by giving them free products or providing monetary incentives in exchange for promotion.

How to Improve ROI Through WhatsApp Marketing – Karix
Tumblr media
Let’s start with a test. Identify one marketing tool that performs well on both extremes of a demographic — Affluent to low-income, well-educated to semi-literate, people in their 60s to those in their 20s, city dwellers to small-town dwellers. It’s an app that we all use, and it’s probably the only app on your phone that you’ve checked at least twice in the last hour. You already know what it is: WhatsApp.
Many of you may not have considered WhatsApp’s universality but think about it and you’ll realize it’s a superpower, given that emails and social network advertisements don’t work for every demographic. Universality and familiarity are just one in a list of reasons that make WhatsApp the best tool for marketers. WhatsApp Marketing is an incredibly effective way to reach out to customers and increase your ROI. No wonder, it is witnessing significant interest from marketers across companies who want a better pay-off from their investments.
What works in favour of WhatsApp, and why should you choose it?
If you’re aware of the popularity of WhatsApp and how intrinsic it is to our lives, you’ll understand why marketing it a sure-shot winner is. The channel gives you access to more than 2 billion users worldwide, with a high amount of time spent on the app relative to other apps. 90% of WhatsApp messages are opened within 3 seconds of being received.
Given how habit-forming it has been for users, businesses are increasingly preferring WhatsApp for customer communications to ride on high engagement levels on the platform. Back in 2020, the company had more than 50 million users of WhatsApp for business, a number that would be much higher now. The platform’s two-way communication is close to a natural human conversation, which is why both brands and customers are looking to connect on WhatsApp. Plus, it’s intuitive, user-driven, and in a format that users are comfortable with.
Do you remember the last time you opened an email sent by a brand or checked into a deal via a notification you received on your phone? Chances are, you haven’t checked these in a while. Most users these days either tend to put notifications on silent or avoid subscribing to notifications, thus diminishing the value of this outreach channel. Similarly, one ends up receiving promotional emails in plenty, making several users delete them en masse instead of opening them.
According to MailChimp, the leader in email marketing, emails have an average open rate of 21.33% and a click-through rate of 2–5%, that is, only 2–5% of those who open the emails click on the links in them. Compare this to WhatsApp, where the open rate is as high as 98% with a conversion rate of 45–60%. What this means is that 45–60 users out of 100 get converted on the platform.
For a brand, these numbers are too good to be missed. Simple math says that marketing on WhatsApp is much more profitable than any other channel. The icing on the cake is its lower cost. Experts believe that WhatsApp messages cost less than sending emails and SMS. Retargeting campaigns on the platform are cheaper than those on Facebook and Google but more rewarding at the same time. Not only that, but the response rates are also higher, and it helps in building first-party data and, of course, rich multimedia messages that make the conversations engaging.
With the availability of clickable predefined buttons, messages on WhatsApp can be made more interactive. The CTA buttons exhort a user to take an action, for example, “buy now” or “call now”, while the Quick Replies buttons allow users to reply to a message without typing. For example, “Yes” or No.”
Now let’s look at how businesses can use WhatsApp for marketing.
Use WhatsApp for customer acquisition: A “Subscribe on WhatsApp” box on websites can help businesses get users directly on the messaging platform. Businesses can use this initiation to start a conversation with the user, tell them about the brand, and attract them with deals. It also encourages automatic opt-in from the customer.
Get users from Click-to-Chat ads that open on WhatsApp: Click-to-Chat ads are a great way to get new users. These are social media ads, generally on Facebook or Instagram, that open a chat on WhatsApp when clicked. Customers coming through Click Chat ads are high-intent users who are willing to connect with a brand. The opportunity can be used to showcase product assortments, understand the user’s needs, answer their questions, and move them towards purchase.
QR codes for first-time users: QR codes on packaging, brochures, collaterals, etc. that open on WhatsApp serve as an excellent tool to get those users to come across your brand for the first time. Even for existing users, QR codes are a convenient way for your customers to reach out to a brand directly. And once they are in, brands can draw them closer through carefully crafted offers and product line-ups. QR codes can also be used to make your offline campaigns more measurable.
Lead nurturing: Some users visit your website but drop off for some other reason. Nurture those leads by reminding them of price drop alerts, back-in-stock updates, upcoming offers, and wishlist products.
Gamification through WhatsApp: Businesses can engage users through interactive quizzes, polls, and contests, making their conversational experience fun and enriching. Gamification is known to improve customer engagement and help boost website visits. For instance, a leading fintech on our platform engaged users with a cricket quiz. The CTA led them to the Cred app to check and redeem rewards.
FAQs and user guides: If you’re a company that makes technical products, sharing FAQs and user guides on WhatsApp could make it easier for your customers to understand your products. For example, if you’re a brand of foldable furniture, informing users about assembling the furniture through short videos could help customers with their concerns about assembly and reduce the volume of calls for support.
Gain customer feedback. Customer feedback is a must for businesses. It helps them sharpen their product line and redefine their strategies based on what customers think about a product or their purchase experience. Incentivize your users with discount codes and deals, and they will be more than happy to share feedback on WhatsApp.
Abandoned cart recovery: One of the biggest issues with online shopping is abandoned carts — customers like something and add it to their carts but do not complete the transaction. Abandoned carts are a lost opportunity for e-commerce firms. However, with reminders and notifications on WhatsApp and sometimes sweetening deals, it can be converted into an achievement.
Personalized product recommendations: Engaging customers on WhatsApp becomes easy when you send personalized recommendations. Not only does the customer feel more connected to the brand, but he or she is also more inclined to take the next step and convert when the recommendations are personalized or there is a bespoke deal.
User-generated content: Brands can solicit user-generated content on WhatsApp, which can be used for customer validation on websites, apps, and investor pitches, further driving product adoption. A leading radio station, for example, encouraged listeners to share a simple voice note to enter the cricket jockey contest and win prizes.
Repeat purchases; upsells and cross-sells: do not let your customers stop at one purchase. Reach out to them proactively through WhatsApp, suggesting additional products or products that complement something they have bought. For example, if a customer has bought formal trousers, suggest a pair of formal shoes that will work best with the purchase.
In a recent global survey done by Kantar Research titled “Business Messaging Usage”, the survey found that in India, 86% of adults message a business at least once a week, considerably higher than the global average of 66%. 72% of the people surveyed said that they messaged businesses more often since the start of the pandemic. Interestingly, 75% are more likely to do business with or purchase from a company that they can contact via messaging.
With users’ increased propensity for messaging and thus WhatsApp, it’s a no-brainer that WhatsApp marketing is a crucial tool for the modern-day marketer. It offers unparalleled engagement — much better than any other marketing channel — and personalization — two significant factors to consider in marketing. And when audiences are engaged, they are better retained as well. Customer retention is an important aspect for businesses, for it helps lower the CAC in the long run.
Some dos and don’ts to kickstart your WhatsApp marketing journey
While there is immense potential for things that can be done through WhatsApp marketing, the use cases listed above are a good starting point. Here are a few things you must do to begin your WhatsApp marketing journey:
Obtain consent from your customers. WhatsApp requires businesses to get an opt-in from their customers to receive the messages.
Your messages should be timely and relevant. If a customer has browsed through lipsticks on your platform but did not complete the purchase, make sure to remind her within a few hours. A message sent several days after the customer’s action is meaningless.
Do not bombard your customers with irrelevant messages. Give them the option to unsubscribe or opt-out.
Create a WhatsApp for Business or WhatsApp Business API account. For medium- to large-sized businesses, we recommend WhatsApp Business API. WhatsApp Business API allows you to connect to a business messaging platform like Karix Mobile to set up customized workflows, assign contacts to agents, and more.
Include WhatsApp links at multiple places to get users to enter your WhatsApp chat. These could be QR codes on billboards, product packaging, social media, websites, etc.
So, what are you waiting for? Create personalized experiences for your customers via our WhatsApp marketing solution. Our solution caters to everyone’s needs, from an enterprise CMO to a D2C business owner. If you have a consumer-focused business, we have the solution for you on how to engage your customers conversationally and drive your marketing and sales campaigns.
