I finally got Baldur's Gate 3 but why does my gaming laptop run it like ass 😭

#i can load skyrim with 1400+ mods no problem #i can load dao and da2 with mods that make their graphics and ai more complicated than either of those games ever intended just fine #i can load sims 4 with mountains of add on packs and mods with no issues whatsoever #why is it that my computer SPECIFICALLY cannot handle: dragon age inquisition. minecraft. and apparently fucking baldurs gate 😭 #i know my graphics card is good! and ive already checked that its using the right one #the game even auto selected ultra settings bc it detected how good my gpu is #(ive tried turning the graphics down anyways but that didnt fix it) #is it bc my internet is slow? but ive already turned off all the online settings. is there more that i need to do to take the game offline? #(why would it be using the internet during cutscenes tho??) #is it a ram issue??? bc i could get some better ram sticks #i would just like to be able to start a battle or initiate conversations or autosave or watch a cutscene without my computer shitting itsel #P L E A S E 😭 #rambling

As we enter the last hours of the Good Omens graphic novel Kickstarter, here’s a recap of ALL the items you can get and how to get them. We’ll also answer some of the main questions you’ve had.

TIERS

THE HUMAN TIER (£25 GBP) includes one copy of the Good Omens graphic novel. All of the stretch goal embellishments (foiling, ribbon, foreword, afterword, extra pages, etc) cover every level (including early bird). Every backer also gets a bookmark. This also includes the foreword and afterword by Michael Sheen, David Tennant, and Jon Hamm.

THE SERPENT TIER (£40 GBP) includes one copy of the Good Omens graphic novel, a dust jacket* featuring an alt cover by Frank Quitely and Loot Pack #1*, which is full of goodies. *Stretch goals have added to these items, full info below.

The alt cover dust jacket is now reversible, with the other side featuring this by Rachael Stott in b&w.

✖ It does not have a print of this image. The colour version is available as an add on.

Loot Pack #1 originally featured 2 x Colleen Doran prints (including a brand new piece), a postcard and bookmark. Fans have unlocked additional Colleen prints, some colouring pages, as well as *many* prints from other artists… You have unlocked prints from Rachael Stott (different to the alt cover image), Sarah Graley, David Aja, Mark Buckingham, Tanya Roberts, Paul Kidby, Alice Oseman and Anna Morozova, as well as the Frank Quitely cover as a print.

We’ve been asked a lot about Alice Oseman's prints, so to clarify: if you back the Serpent Tier or above, you will get Alice's print featuring Aziraphale, as well as the newly commissioned Crowley to complete the pair.

THE HELLHOUND TIER (£120 GBP) includes the prior tiers + Loot Pack #2, ft. Crowley and Aziraphale enamel pins, stickers, and a pack of the Good Omens trading cards. These will be playable. Tier backers can also get rare cards in their order at random.

THE WITCHFINDER TIER (£200 GBP) has all of this, plus an exquisite map by Julien Labit. Dimensions will be approximately 594 x 841 mm.

THE DEMON TIER (£320 GBP) is a creative punch from head to toe, with five additional enamel pins (including Dog), some snazzy socks, and two creator themed notebooks, one for your inner Pratchett, the other for your inner Gaiman.

THE HORSEMEN TIER (£500 GBP) is the Demon Tier + A3 Giclee print from the graphic novel, signed by Colleen Doran, plus the exclusive Beelzebub enamel pin, and Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett collector's enamel pin set.

THE OBSIDIAN TIER (£3k) builds on the Horsemen Tier with copies of the new, limited Obsidian editions (GO illustrated edition, graphic novel & William the Antichrist), signed by Neil Gaiman & artists, and a one-of-a-kind trading card by Colleen Doran.

For booksellers, we have two options: The Small Bookshop Tier (10 copies) and The Bookshop Tier (20 copies), both of which offer a 50% trade discount. There are also add ons of 10 and 20 copies for shops looking to order more.

ADD ONS

The campaign itself ends at 11.59pm UK time on 31 August, so there’s still time to get your pledges in. Let’s move onto the add ons via Kickstarter...

How do you add more to your pledge? This link on Kickstarter should help. You effectively re-select the tier you’ve chosen, and then it will take you to the add on section. This works even if your tier is sold out, or was time sensitive (Nightingale).

Unlike tiers, you are not limited to one choice with add ons. You can get additional copies of the graphic novel, mugs, slipcases, the graphic novel oversized edition, and more. Rachael Stott's Eternal Encounter print is available also.

A.Z. FELL & CO ADD ONS. Includes: Bookmark, mug, socks, tote bag. The bookmark is different / higher end than those included with every copy of the graphic novel.

TRADING CARDS. You can get a trading card booster pack. These will have at least six cards. The Hellhound Tier is where to get the larger, playable base pack. Base packs will be available down the road via the new merch store, but cheapest via the Kickstarter.

ENAMEL PIN ADD ONS We have two pairs of Aziraphale and Crowley pins (£10 per set). We also have mystery packs of three available (£12). You can see the full pin information and designs so far at http://goodomenshq.com.

While pins #005 onwards will be part of the mystery packs, they may pop up at events or in flash sales of specific items. We will give fans as much notice as possible when these exciting events will happen.

BOOKSHOP ADD ONS. Bookshops who have backed either of the retail tiers will be able to add packs of 10 or 20 additional books onto their pledge. These tiers must be delivered to a bookshop address. These are also at 50% trade discount.

OBSIDIAN ADD ONS. While the Obsidian Tier collects all three books, you can add the Obsidian Edition of the Good Omens illustrated edition, the Good Omens graphic novel, or William the Antichrist - signed by Neil - to pledges at any level.

Add ons are available for every tier level. Add ons will also be available after the Kickstarter, however will be cheapest via the campaign. We know a lot of people have been asking, so if 31 August is too short notice, worry not!

FAQ

Q: Will the graphic novel be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. It will be available via PledgeManager, and subsequently on goodomenshq.com when that becomes the wider merch store.

Q: Will tiers be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. Some will be available for an additional time on PledgeManager to allow those who couldn’t access the Kickstarter for a variety of reasons. This will go live at some point after the project finishes.

Q: Will the add ons be available after the Kickstarter finishes? A: Yes. Though Kickstarter will be the cheapest way to get the add ons, these will be made more widely available at a slight price increase after the campaign ends.

Q: I couldn’t back the Kickstarter due to payment issues. Can I use Paypal / other methods? A: We believe PledgeManager will be able to integrate the wider payment methods, including Paypal, for those who couldn’t back with a card. This is TBC. Longer term, this will be an option on goodomenshq.com when it opens as the official merch store.

Q: Shipping is charged after. Why do we not have the final numbers yet? A: We’ve been working across the campaign to bring estimates down further; the page will have new numbers as we have them pre-31 Aug, however we will be working over the coming months to get the best price for backers worldwide once the weights are locked in. Our goal is to get the best value for supporters and not overcharge by locking in this early.

Q: If it will all be available later, what difference is there in backing the Kickstarter? A: All backers get an individual discount code for the Good Omens HQ merch store when it opens in the future, so you can get money off further items. We’ve got some fun things that we’re planning to do via backer updates post-campaign too. More on that… later. You’ll still get plenty of ineffable joy either way though!

Finally, after 2 years of work, it is complete. -But still being updated.

There's a Japanese version of the mod now!

This is a mod for Xenogears using Retroarch's Beetle PSX HW core real-time texture replacement feature. (It requires the Vulkan driver, so make sure your graphics card supports that.) (Duckstation doesn't have a similar option, unfortunately.)

It replaces every single character dialogue portrait, menu portrait, & (almost every) battle portrait (looking at you, Yggdra officer Gear pilots) with high quality, cleaned up artwork, as well as recreated high quality UI while keeping it as close to the original game as possible.

And best thing about it is, if there's anything you don't like about it, like certain aspects of the UI, you can locate and delete that file from the folder. Everything is optional. (if you have any questions as to what's what, drop them into my dms)

Being a real-time texture replacer, it should work with any English version of XG, both base-game and modded/patched. Any fan-translated patch using the US version as a base should display correctly.

There's a separate version for the Japanese version of the game. May need some editing still with other characters' UI ("Ether"/"Spells"/"Arcane"/etc) but for the most part its good to go in terms of battle UI. Let me know if you find any errors.

(I've been using it with the Perfect Works Build mod. Highly recommended!)

(Note!!: If you use PWB mod, don't use its "readjusted portraits" patch when patching your rom, as that patch interferes with this mod's portraits texture replacing.)

(It works on Steam Deck... but don't ask me for details in setting that up in particular, I don't own one 😅)

I recommend reading the instructions txt files I included in the DL.

This includes information such as how to set up .cue and .m3u files, swapping discs, renaming the texture folder, Retroarch settings and Beetle PSX HW Core settings to get the mod working, settings suggestions for making a cleaner looking and faster playing XG (YMMV), and settings to fix certain emulation issues Ive come across (freezing on fast-forward, crackling audio during 3D/effects-heavy cutscenes/gameplay, blank screen during Rico flashback, etc).

Gilded Cage

Nothing but ashes remain of your home. Your loved ones have all been taken from you overnight, leaving you all alone in the world. 

Fight, flee, cry, scream, rage. Seek revenge, find forgiveness, fall in love, break hearts. Poison, lie and sleep your way to the top of the imperial harem.

The golden chains wear down heavy on your pretty little neck. And they will do so until you break them.

You were still a child when the Zephyran hounds razed hell on your homeland. Overnight, everything and everyone you knew and loved withered before your eyes, claimed by the flame and the ashes.

You were fortunate enough -or unfortunate, depending on how you see it- to survive that fateful night. Instead, heavy chains were placed around your wrists and you were sent away to whoever would pay to own you.

Some masters were kinder than others. But captivity tastes just as bitter regardless of how opulent your cage is. 

And this is the most opulent cage you will ever be locked in. The Jade Palace is where you being shipped off to this time. The capital of the grand Zephyran Empire. The very same that ripped your childhood apart.

You have been selected to join the imperial harem of Sultan Ahmad, an honor bestowed only upon the most beautiful and worthy of servants.

Regardless of how you feel regarding this great 'honor', you are every bit as powerless to fight against it as you were to defend your homeland when the Zephyrans came for you.

Don't despair yet, child of the Ancients. There are many opportunities in the Jade Palace for those who wish to seek them. 

You may find yourself pulling the strings and changing the course of history, whispering in the ears of royalty, marching bravely into battle, even escaping and claiming your own freedom once and for all, away from this mess that was inflicted upon you. If you play your cards right, you may even one day become the parent of the next Sultan.

Beware however. There are many who will stand in your path. The worst enemies are hidden not in the shadows but amongst our closest of friends.

Gilded Cage is rated 18+ for explicit language, explicit sexual themes, graphic descriptions of violence and depictions of slavery. 

FEATURES 

•Create your MC. Anything from what they look like to how they feel about their years of servitude and their arrival to the Jade Palace is for you to choose. Are you a conniving courtesan, set on claiming the crown for yourself? Do you merely wish for a life of peace after all these years of hardship? Do you have a single-minded focus on achieving your own freedom? If so, what are you willing to risk for it? 

•Define how others perceive you. You are no ordinary servant after all, you are a member of the Sultan's harem, and those around you are eager to watch your every move? The nobility, military and common folk will all form opinions based on what they hear of you, as will many important political figures like the Valide and the Grand Vizier. And of course it is better to be admired than mocked, ridiculed and despised...

•Engage in a world of intrigue and danger. The Zephyran Empire is deadly. The harem even more so. One wrong step and it will be off with your head, if the Sultan is feeling generous that day. Many plots and schemes are already in place by the time you arrive to the Palace. Some of which may or may not involve you. It is on you to uncover secrets, distinguish enemy from ally and keep yourself safe from the vipers of court. In these halls, few are truly innocent and you might be forced to get your own hands bloody.

•Climb the ranks of the imperial harem. How you achieve that is up to you! You may ally yourself to Valide Sultan, act as a mole for the Grand Vizier or even become a tutor for the young Prince! And of course, if you are willing to participate in some old fashioned seduction, the Sultan's bed -and his heart, if you are capable enough- is the road to unimaginable power and wealth, but also danger.

•Change the course of history. Raise the next Sultan, assassinate your enemies, encourage a military uprising, cause a shift in the religious establishment, become a general, an advisor, even a Haseki. If you are daring enough to bare the consequences of failure. Your actions will have farfetched consequences for the future of the Zephyran Empire and the wider world. So be wary. History has its eye on you.

Romantic Options

The Sultan of the Zephyran Empire: Ahmad

You have heard of him only in hushed whispers and screams of terror. He rules en empire stretching far across the east and west. He is the master of the hounds that raided and destroyed your home. He took everything from you and now he owns you. Still, your very survival depends on his whims.

Yet, when you come face to face with the Lion of the East, he seems less monstrous than you had expected...

The Grand Vizier: Selim

He has had an eye on you since you first entered the palace. And not for good reasons. He may very well be the second most powerful man in the empire-after the Sultan of course- and he seems to have decided you are a threat to his master.

Getting him on your side might just be the thing you need to propel yourself in the court. If you manage to do that anyway. Selim is known as a tough man to charm, but who knows what hides underneath.

The Valide Sultan: Nazli

The Sultan may rule the world, but have no doubt his mother rules the harem and she does so with an iron fist. She controls everything. Who does the chores, how much gold each maid is afforded, who gets to enter the Sultan's chambers. She has her finger on the pulse of the harem. She wants things a certain way and she will have things a certain way. This Queen Dowager is every bit as much of a lion as her son.

She is distant, but not unkind. Most importantly, she can raise you to the highest of highs or doom you to the dungeons in less than a glance. You will have to earn her respect before she accepts you into the inner circle.

The Favourite (?): Meryem

Meryem is the most beloved of the Sultan's concubines. Or rather she was. For unknown reason, it seems she has fallen out of his favour. Rumor is it has been a year since he asked for her.

Still, her position remains significant as the mother to the only son of the Sultan. Her son, Mustafa, in combination with the support she receives from the Grand Vizier has helped her hold onto her power.

But her position remains insecure while the Sultan's eyes wander. You could intergrate yourself amongst her closest companions. Or you could be the downfall she so fears.

The Artist: Emil De Angelis

Emil is a... controversial presence at court to say the least. He was raised from a starving artist to the next big sensation by the Sultan overnight. He has been involved in several projects ever since, whether that be art, poetry, singing or architecture. Known around court for his -perhaps a bit too daring- wit and charming smirk, it is hard not to notice him.

He is also the closest to a friendly face you have at court. Emil has handpicked you as his next side project of sorts. The new thing he will concern himself with to fill up his time. You will have his support in whatever you strive for.

Be warned though. Emil acts with ulterior motives as much as anyone else at court.

The Childhood Friend (shouldn't they be dead?): Helena

You thought you had lost them. They died in your arms. You held her body. You carried it. You buried it.

Now they are back. Somehow they have returned from beyond the grave.

The worst part?

They don't even remember you.

exactly what it says on the tin title! after watching @skittlesplays manually resize hundreds of recolor files on stream (and trying to do it myself...), i decided that the only solution when it comes to editing textures for ts2 was... photoshop! here are 9 photoshop actions geared towards 4t2 conversions, but hey, maybe you could use them for other stuff too 💖

i made these for personal use and have been using them on and off for the last few months, so i suppose you could say they've been sufficiently tested... the actions included aren't final though, i might go back and add a few more as my areas of expertise expand 😅 more info and instructions under the cut, long post warning! 👇🏽

How to Install These Actions

open up photoshop and click on the big 'play' button in the corner. that's the actions tab. then click on the little down arrow and 4 lines in the corner of that subwindow.

select 'load actions' from the list, and navigate to wherever you've installed my .atn file! then that's it, you've got them installed, easy-peasy.

How to Use These Actions (1 at a Time)

open up the texture that you want to edit in photoshop; for this example i'm using a dress i'm 4t2'ing from the throwback fit kit. now it's time to decide which action you're gonna use to make this texture compatible with ts2!

as the texture is 1024 x 2048, i'm gonna use the 'texture clothing: 1024x2048 to 1024x1024' action to downsize it.

ta-da! now it's a reasonable size!

How to Use These Actions (Dozens at a Time)

now for what this set was really made for: editing a ton of textures at a time! just go to file -> automate -> batch...

and navigate to the textures you'd like to batch-edit. here's a few things you should probably keep in mind: - checking 'include all subfolders' will edit ALL the textures from that filepath onwards. - if you set your destination as 'save and close' as pictured, all your files will be autosaved after the action has been run. - so if you don't want to live on the edge, like me, and are afraid of running the wrong action, just open up one of the files you're batch-editing and check which action should be run on it before you do the other files.

and behold! all of my textures have been cut down, and a bunch of my time saved 😎

Examples of Stuff Each Action Can Be Used For

in case you were curious! the first two actions, i mainly use for objects. a lot of ts4 cc creators have their texture sizes set to 2048x2048 or even more, which is way more than (my) ts2 can normally handle. i mean, that much for a candle? geez! so these two actions are used to cut down those textures and not kill your graphics cards.

these are for cas stuff, like clothing, hairs, and accessories. alpha creators tend to have larger texture sizes, but ea's are almost always a cool 1024x2048. just make sure you check before you run the actions!

trim is... i honestly can't remember the last time i used trim, just... if you need it, it's there

the last two actions are for floors and walls! floors are set to autosave as .bmp; walls are up to you. the texture sizes are made to match homecrafter's.

and... that's about it! lol. i know this isn't normally what i post, but i figured that since a lot more people are getting into 4t2 converting recently, these actions might help y'all.

12/?? Things come to a head

We return to that shambling mass of a film, Prometheus.

Content warnings for body horror, contagion-y stuff, something that loosely be described as medical horror, It’s Been 0 Days Since Our Last Incident, and me, going on a ramble about movie gore to distract myself from The Madness.

There's a lady in this scene who's had a number of speaking lines so far–the maybe-chemist. She has a name, but it doesn’t matter.

But I'm going to call her Doctor Frankenstein.

They have just got the helmet off the head, revealing that it’s truly, unmistakably humanoid. They have noted that there are “new cells” on the head. In the business, we call that “decomposition”, but Doctor Frankenstein is not concerned with this. In fact, she immediately proposes a new plan.

Doctor Frankenstein has had the brilliant idea to plug a big cable into the head like it’s a guitar amp, and zap it with electricity to wake it up.

Yes. This is what the movie goes with.

You know, Alien included a similarly shambolic first examination of an alien subject, but it was performed because said alien was attached to a man’s face, and all they had to try and fix that was the contents of a cargo ship’s medbay, with the only qualified personnel being the corporate android who had been ordered to consider the crew expendable. The crew of the Prometheus has no such excuse.

Well, except for David, he has precisely the same excuse, but he’s not trying to poke wires in anybody’s ears.

Doctor Frankenstein calls for enough amperage to run three electric kettles (cite 3), then all the way up to two Titan RTX graphics cards before the head starts to get what appears to be a massive migraine. 

I know this expression well, migraines can feel very much like someone is subjecting me to unnatural horrors.

This is getting a little extreme, though. Yes, when the head starts pulsing, they realize they may have made a mistake. 

I’d say this was inexplicable behavior on their part, unbelievably hasty and foolish–and I will say it, actually, it deserves to be said. But in context, this is the team that did so little prep for entering the alien structure that they didn’t notice the giant fuckoff skull carved into the outside of it.

Knowing how much Shaw and Holloway read into the intentions of the Engineers from the depictions they found on Earth, they probably would’ve interpreted this as a good sign, somehow.

Anyway, they put a sneezeguard down over the head before it explodes.

Good job everyone. This is like what would’ve happened if Napoleon’s savants took one look at the Rosetta Stone and decided “maybe we should try hitting it with hammers. Surely that’ll make the knowledge fall out.”

From a horror perspective, this scene only works in two contexts: First, gross-out. Generally found in schlock, exploitation, and outsider art flicks, the tone of gross-out content can be highly variable, but there are two general trends I'd mention, which are of relevance to this movie.

First, gross-out tends to exist in that weird alternate space where lots of comedy movies do: characters will behave in unreasonable ways for no apparent reason. Within the film, this is treated as the universal norm, besides maybe a straight man character who highlights the absurdity. Gross-out is often like that, but pushes different boundaries of acceptable behavior than a traditional comedy.

This is, bafflingly, what Prometheus increasingly feels like. It feels like it's transitioning into gross-out schlock, and yet it never goes all the way.

Second: the audience for gross-out is largely self-selecting. If you're watching John Waters' Pink Flamingos, you expect things to get messy. You are looking forward to things getting messy. A head exploding is perfectly par for the course in gross-out horror. One might even be disappointed if there wasn't an exploding head.

But again, this movie was not marketed on gross-out. It was marketed as a tense, Alien-esque horror movie. If you followed that premise like I did, you're not in the theater to view a debauched spectacle, you're there for the movie to put a well-paced squeeze on the characters and your nerves, where half the horror comes from having the room to really think about how frightening the core concepts of the series are.

Does Alien involve some shocking gore? Sure does! But in Alien, Kane's fate is not there to make you laugh and exclaim "ewww!" at how far the film's gone, the film tries to make you very aware of how horrifying his demise is.

So, there's an alternate way this scene works, if you're coming in from that perspective. I don't think the movie intended this as much as the gross-out, but it's what I drew from it at the time: the scene works if you decide not to focus your sympathies on the human characters at all, or even David, and think about it from the perspective of the head. 

It’s patently impossible that what they did actually “woke up” the brain inside that skull. But if we sink to the movie’s level and entertain the idea for a moment, what in the hell have they just done to this Engineer? The last thing the head would’ve remembered was running, falling, decapitation, and then this. They just tortured this poor bastard for no adequately explained reason. There’s none! “I think we can trick the nervous system into thinking it's still alive” is the entirety of the explanation. It makes about as much sense and seems as thoughtlessly violent as anything in Mad God (2021, content warning for body horror). 

I already spent all my anger about desecrating bodies in the name of shambolic pseudoscience, I have no more rage to give for now. And similarly in the theater, I hit my limit. I’d already hit a different limit back when they landed the Prometheus on top of some archaeology, but now I’d fully given up on this movie being what I’d hoped it would be. 

The maddening thing that keeps me obsessed with it is that it keeps throwing random scraps of that hypothetical movie into the mix anyway, bouncing me like a yo-yo between scenes. 

But for right now, the yo-yo is still on the descent. Having exploded the first sample of alien biology ever touched by science, they apparently stuck some of it in a generic, science-y DNA machine. What does the DNA machine tell them? 

“DNA match”. 

The movie does not actually explain what this means. It thinks it does, but in a very vague and handwave-y way that ends up being even more hilarious than if they’d just been out-and-out wrong. Because this is what I do for a living, I want to science at this for a bit. 

But I’ve written enough about it for an entire post on its own, so that will wait until next time.

“Since when are winter weddings all the rage?” you’re twisted in Suguru’s gray sheets (technically, the department store lady had referred to the dark shade as “cheating heart” gray) in a way that cinches around your waist and thighs. Pulling tightly over the heated flesh.

Suguru shrugs with a yawn as he crosses into the barrier of his bedroom, liking the way your curves are wrapped in tousled silk. And liking the way your eyes swing to the corner just to snatch a glimpse of him in his sweatpants. His post-euphoria gleam still clinging like a rosy, honeyed glow to his flushed chest.

You return your gaze to the smooth, dark wood surface of Suguru’s nightstand - littered with stretched hair ties and, of course, wedding invitations from his closest friends. All varying shades of white with dark lettering.

“Ah! Utahime ‘n’ Shoko finally tied the knot,” suddenly, you pout, “I didn’t get an invite…”

“Oh, right,” Suguru throws himself over your legs, and somehow the feeling of his weight crushing yours reminds him of his power with you. When he pulls back and you chase, when you let him press your knees by your ears, when you let him shove your face into the pillows - it’s a wicked fire in his veins. One of the reasons he refuses medications is the fear of that fire being snuffed. Rumors and reviews he obsesses over rather than speaking with his doctor, “Uh- " he shakes his head, black hair fluttering around his shoulders, “Shoko told me she figured we’d just show up together.”

“Why?”

“She thinks we’re dating,” he turns his head, shifting the rest of his body again so he’s lying over you. His head over the swell of your breasts. At your quirked brow, he merely shrugs again, “I dunno what to tell either of you at this point.”

“Tell her we’re not dating.”

“I tried. She doesn’t listen.”

She knows better than both of you.

“Well, the card’s pretty,” you hold it up as if Suguru hadn’t seen it yet.

“I like Yuki and Choso’s better.”

“Oh, yeah!” your body jostles his as you scramble to replace the card in your hand with a new one, “Yuki told me Choso wanted it to be all black with white letters,” you snort, “like some orgy cordial request.”

Suguru ‘tsk’s, “No eye for graphic design.”

Yuki and Choso met because of you and Suguru. After you and Suguru. Specifically, after you and Suguru had already started… whatever this was. Not quite friends. Not quite benefits. Somewhere far, far past both of those.

You’re showing off the invite again, but he’s not paying it any mind. If anything, the selection was a little bland. Basic eggshell cardstock with midnight black lettering and gold accent twists along the edges.

Instead, he thinks about how Choso is only one year older than Suguru. And Choso has a little brother, Yuuji, who is eleven years younger than Suguru and yet is already apparently ‘getting serious’ with some Fushiguro boy from school. Far more than Suguru can say for himself and you.

And now he wonders if you feel that same sinking feeling he does.

Entering his thirties in only a couple of years, and yet to the public eye, he’s miserably single in a fling with his best friend. He could, theoretically, get a girlfriend. But meeting someone new sounds exhaustive. Not to mention, Suguru doubts that he is meant to be loved by a stranger by this point, when he’s no longer naive and malleable and able to suppress his more dangerous thoughts.

Of course, on top of all that is the fact that being with anybody except you sounds like a demented, unusually cruel punishment.

Allowing Yuki and Choso’s invitation to flutter back onto his nightstand, you pluck up another; a giggle is trapped in your chest.

“He’s such a little asshole.”

“Hm?” Suguru tilts his head up at the sound of your voice. This time, he’s greeted by obnoxious silvery characters on a flaky, golden card, “Ah, Satoru? He’s the worst.”

“Like, it’s ugly!” you bring a hand over the back of Suguru’s head, “And he’s not even getting married.”

“He thought it’d be funny…”

“‘Course he did!” you grumble, flipping the card over and glancing over the back, “And he’s got the money to blow on stupid shit like this.”

Suguru also does well for himself. Not nearly as well as Satoru, but he lives comfortably. Satoru was born from parents in the fashion industry, making the man’s entrance into modeling somehow even easier aside from his absolute jackpot in the genetics lottery. Satoru was well-loved.

The jealousy he felt over it bred a great, terrible guilt in his chest that was difficult to swallow every time he was with his childhood friend.

But Satoru was also lonely. Beloved and alone, despite it all.

And Suguru is immature enough to take solace in that fact.

Then there’s him.

“Aw, Kento, too!” you take notice of how Suguru tenses atop of you, his arms squeezing around your waist. Pitifully, you pat his head, “Sorry, I can put it back…”

Kento is exactly the kind of man Suguru wanted to be growing up.

“No, no,” he murmurs, “Let’s see Kento Nanami’s wedding invitation.”

It’s a powdery shade of white, with pure, pitch-black characters raised against the background. Aligned down the center with charcoal black outlining the corners of the card. Something Suguru would’ve seen getting for himself, had he gotten engaged sooner than his junior.

His parents certainly think he should have anyway.

Kento holds himself to every standard Suguru’s parents wanted their son to uphold. All of which he breaks now, by keeping you wrapped in his sheets under his frenzied body while maintaining the title of a ‘bachelor’. He’ll be thirty two years sooner than Kento, but Kento is already the exact man Suguru wants to be.

A respectable job, smooth skin, a house in his own name, a fiance, and the adoration of his community.

All of his neighbors, they don’t truly know Suguru. They know the man in black with long hair that slinks through the halls and lobby, they get to peek at the beiges and grays of his apartment, but they do not know him.

They have no idea what he’s done today, what time he clocked into work, what time he clocked out, where he works, what time he gets home every day, what time he goes to sleep, what he likes most for dinner, what he daydreams of in the shower, what he dreads before bed. And he doesn’t know that of them. They are all just little pieces of each other’s lives for one measly moment in a sharp, short burst of the universe's lifetimes.

And there are so many more people whose lives he isn’t part of. And who are not part of his. People who have no idea he even exists. People he has no idea exist. Therefore, nothing would change if he spontaneously disappeared.

Sure, those close to him would be devastated, but after that…

Japan would not miraculously change in any way. The world would not stop spinning. Space would be just as expansive and overwhelming and mysterious as it always was.

Suguru was one little piece of a massive complex of nonsensical happenings in one of many galaxies, on one of many planets, in one of many countries for a handful of years. Just as billions of other people were.

He wonders if there’s any point to this at all.

“Sugu…?”

“Hm?”

“Are you okay? You’re spacin’ out on me.”

He wonders if you ever feel the same way, or if he’s the only one cursed with this poison in his mind.

And he’s immature enough to believe he just might be.

It’s Fine Press Friday!

In the spirit of Christmas’s arrival in three days, we present a small Christmas-themed book entitled An Alphabet of Christmas Words, published in 1966. The book is a dictionary of holiday terms, with corresponding illustrations. Entries were selected and edited from the Oxford English Dictionary by American writer Helen McKelvey Oakley (1906-2003), who explains that her “interest [in this project] lies in seeing how The Dictionary treats [each term].” The accompanying illustrations are by Ursula Suess (b. 1924), a graphic designer, calligrapher, and artist. Most recently, her art was shown in a 2022 solo exhibition at the Tubac Center of the Arts in Tubac, Arizona.

An Alphabet of Christmas Words was offset printed in Times Roman on Mohawk Superfine Text paper by Hallmark Lithographers Inc. in an edition of 360 copies, published by the Oxford University Press and designed by Ursula Suess and the press's art director and vice president John Begg (1903-1974). Also included with this book are two small season’s greetings cards from the press; one has Begg’s name printed on it and the other has “from Ursel and Mutti” inscribed in black ink.

hello! i am sorry if you’ve been asked before but I am curious as to how you did the glitchy gif on your kanade graphics? it looks very nice!

hi! so sorry that this tutorial is going to be a bit rushed, i’m low on spoons but leaving for a trip tomorrow + don’t want to leave you hanging all that time. so! let’s get started:

first thing is to get the two images you want to use. i’m using the untrained and trained versions of kanade’s “the moment the sound becomes clear” card but any two images will work. you can also do more than two images but that’s more work lol

put your first image in the canvas (if you want it to be a specific shape, use a raster mask or clipping mask it) and duplicate it twice, like this

then you double tap the topmost or go to layer > layer style > blending options and see where it says “channels.” unclick the “r” box (you can use the others, too, but the red one gets you the more classic red/blue glitch effect)

then you shift the image around a bit. how much is up to you, but i usually shift this one down and to the right. then you merge that layer down with your other duplicate. there’s your first glitch layer!

now duplicate your bottommost image and repeat the process, this time dragging your glitch in the opposite direction of whatever you did the first time. repeat this whole thing with your second image, and make sure your glitch frames are all in the center of your layers — the top and bottom layers should have no glitch effects whatsoever

now hold shift and select your bottom and top layers, and go to layer > animation > make frames

now we need to fix the timing of our frames. double click your layer to edit the name, and add a comma at the end, followed by a number. exact numbers don’t really matter, but for my base images i typically use between 450 and 475, and for my glitch frames i usually use between 45 and 55.

(make sure you include the comma, because without it you don’t adjust the timing at all.)

then you export as a gif and check the box that says “boomerang” so your gif will loop

you can also adjust the speed if you want to, and if you don’t want your gif to loop then put a 1 in for the repeat section

tada! pretty simple glitch effect. lmk if you have any questions!

A Near-Full Tier List Of 70s Atari 2600 Games

With only a couple games left to go and me needing to 'git gud' in one of them, it's only logical that it's time to wrap things up with a good old fashioned tier list!

Note: Some of my opinions have changed over time, so if some of the ordering doesn't make sense to you if you've read earlier reviews, that's why.

Football, Slot Racers and Superman will be added to the list if I can either find a second player (first 2) or a cartridge of the game (last one).

We got 28 games to go over here. F tier to A tier in that order. No S cuz there's zero games that really fit that bill. Let's rock.

F Tier

#28 Space War (11/40)

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. Who thought porting a game from 1962 was a good idea on a console that already had surperior alternatives of the genre? The singleplayer was the worst gaming experience i've ever had. It's not even in space, dangit! Disastrous release.

#27 Slot Machine (11/40)

The title doesn't lie, this sure is a slot machine. And that is all it is. How does one manage to have less value than Basic Math, I wonder? Should've given more memory to Casino, Atari...

#26 Hunt & Score (10/40)

Awful controls, lacking visuals, horrendous noises and it's much, much, much cheaper to buy a copy of a real memory match game anyway. The (second) worst of the worst, even amongst several weak 1978 releases that held no value as soon as better games came out.

#25 Miniature Golf (11/40)

What am I even looking at? You move a square and that determines the angle of another square bouncing around, which is as tedious as it sounds. Squares squares square. Ourgh, I hate it. If only it had more holes so I could hate it even more.

D Tier

#24 Basic Math (12/40)

Woof, okay. As a random math problem generator with funny sound effects, it... functions. That's all I can say about it. It's a blank screen if you remove the numbers. This is my lowest of the low bars for what is somewhat passable in some regards and what isn't.

#23 Hangman (14/40)

Impressive selection of words due to being the first game with expanded memory. Now why you would spend your bucks on this when a piece of paper is something almost everyone has, I wouldn't know. Nobody wants to play Hangman alone.

#22 Street Racer (18/40)

Even more boring than Indy 500. Every mode plays the same as each other with very mild changes. Number Munchers is as good as it gets, and that's only because it's over sooner.

#21 Code Breaker (14/40)

Graphically almost as bad as flippin' Basic Math, made worse by how confusingly it plays it's cards and the fact that half the screen estate ain't being used while playing Nim. Below all the rubbish, Nim managed to curve out a tiny place in my heart due to it's alright AI.

#20 Flag Capture (16/40)

Better than Code Breaker due to being a more justified release. Otherwise, forgettable. So much so, that i'm out of things to say.

#19 Home Run (16/40)

A kinda ass way to play baseball, however props must be given for hardly having a point of reference at this point. It completely trumps the RCA Studio II version and it seems to be fairly close to the version by Epoch in Japan. Major positive is that it's a lot faster than it's contemperaries.

C Tier

#18 Outlaw (20/40)

Based on a revolutionary arcade title with a proper microprocessor. I find this one very dull. At least it has some minor things going for it like being able to deconstruct the obstacles in your way. Well done Outlaw, you did the bare minimum.

#17 Indy 500 (21/40)

Extremely mid racing. Single players are gonna be done with it in 3 seconds flat as the time trialing is not fun at all. Multiplayer is oooooookay. Decent engine noises for the time.

#16 Brain Games (18/20)

Errrrhhh, I may have been slightly too harsh earlier. Visually it's kinda gross, however you could argue that the collection of brain teasers here ain't too awful. I had a modicrum of fun with some of 'em.

#15 Star Ship (22/40)

The most striking game of the launch lineup for attempting first person well before a game could do it for realsies. I can appreciate it as an art form, as a game though? I'm good.

#14 Sky Diver (21/40)

At least it doesn't fuckin' squeal at ya at all times like in the arcade. However, unlike that version, it's pretty much multiplayer-only and the thrill of seeking a high score got almost completely butchered as a result. Satisfactory port, nothing more.

#13 Human Cannonball (20/40)

Has some personality in the form of the guy you shoot out of the cannon, and I found myself somewhat immersed by the smart way the game's visuals came to be. Otherwise, dull as dishwater.

#12 Basketball (21/40)

The first proper attempt at a realistic ball sports title. It tries a 3D perspective and for competitive play, I can see a decent time being had here. The repetition and lack of modes very much hurt it unfortunately.

#11 Blackjack (23/40)

An entirely functional and sorta addicting take on the card game of old. Gets completely trounced by Casino which is essentially an enhanced version of this.

#10 Bowling (24/40)

Falls under the same kinda umbrella as Basketball. Don't mind this one. It has good visuals (a multicolor sprite!) and a goofy dance when you clear all the pins. Kinda wears thin once you know where to stand however.

#9 Video Chess (23/40)

The best AI of the console put into a cart that could barely handle it. Sluggish movement, long loading times and hard-to-discern visuals make it a hard sell now. However, back THEN, this fuckin' kicked ass for the common man. It gets a formal handshake from me.

B Tier

#8 Air Sea Battle (28/40)

A fine introduction to the Atari 2600's library. I think it's sorta boring and the AI is hardly a contest, but the multiplayer is still enjoyable enough and it's audiovisually one of the better launch games.

#7 Casino (22/40)

How I gave this a lower score than Blackjack, I have no idea. You can play the same exact game again here with improved visuals, or dive into a couple variaties of poker, of which I actually really like Poker Solitaire. Good package!

#6 Backgammon (27/40)

Graphically one of the most impressive games on 2600 so far. Gameplay-wise, yeah it's Backgammon and Acey Deucy alright. This game thought me the ropes and i'm thankful for it. I would almost call this a worthy substitute for buying the real thing. Almost.

#5 Canyon Bomber (26/40)

Very solid ports of two middling arcade games, Canyon Bomber and Destroyer. It only made sense as they were essentially two peas in a pod from the getgo. Tired of Air-Sea Battle and in the need of something you can also play competently alone? This one's for you.

#4 Breakout (25/40)

I WILL get back to this one. I promise. The Atari 2600+ is coming in in 2 weeks and will allow me to play it with an actual paddle controller for the first time. Playing with a controller does not do it justice. It's Pong for the score hunters. 8 modes with 4 variations each is only rivalled by those coming up ahead on the list.

A Tier

#3 Surround (27/40)

Doesn't have the quirky ASMRy noises from arcade Dominos, otherwise this is an extremely solid competitive pre-Snake Snakelike. Very replayable because it allows you to doodle around freely, too.

#2 Combat (31/40)

The quintessential pack-in for the 2600 in it's early years. I don't like that it lacks a singleplayer mode completely- the multiplayer is still a hoot on occasion though. Even contains some funny glitches if you're into that sorta thing.

#1 Video Olympics (33/40)

Pong remains a classic that's still good for the occasional bout. This is that, but with a TON of other modes to invite a pal over for. The single player is destined to play one mode, however the AI is competent enough to keep that fresh for a little bit too. Easily the definitive way to play gaming's granddaddy.

Soon, Video Olympics shall be rivalled or even dethroned. The 2600's hayday is about to kick into high gear. And with that, I mean a couple weeks as I wait for my new old console to arrive in the mail. See ya then, you goofy video game crash instigator.

Before streaming services, in-between satellite TV and DVDs, you had Game Boy Advance Video. Whenever you didn't feel like playing through Pokemon Emerald, you could watch some grainy, 30 FPS episodes of Dragon Ball GT on your favorite handheld console.

It was such an afterthought to Nickelodeon, that they overlooked a pretty big flub for a Spongebob Squarepants episode that was released.

Located on this Nicktoons compilation is an episode of Spongebob that has a "Smell-o-Vision" graphic from 1999 that wasn't edited out.

What the heck was Smell-o-Vision?

Smell-o-Vision was this funny promotion that Nickelodeon did with the help of Kraft foods. Kids would buy specially-marked boxes of Lunchables, Fruity Pebbles, ect and get a "Smell-o-Vision" card.

Then on selected dates, "Smell-o-Vision" episodes of Nicktoons would air. Whenever the nose and the number graphic popped up, you pulled the corresponding card, scratched and sniffed it. The corresponding numbers were important because there was good and bad smells. Wild Thornberries could be prompting you to smell wildflowers blowing in the breeze, but your card is a fart squeezed out by Stu Pickles during an episode of Rugrats.

This promotion came and went in a short time in 1999. Game Boy Advance Video came out in 2004. How did this mistake make it through? Surely Nickelodeon had a clean master copy of the "Squeaky Boots" episode to lend to Majesco. Laziness? Incompetence? Who knows. Regardless, it's at least funny.

A guide to Glazing your art so that AI cannot take it without consent:

Now that tumblr is selling our works to midjourney, here's how to protect yourself. Quote:

Glaze is a system designed to protect human artists by disrupting style mimicry.

It was developed by the same team as Nightshade, a more extreme version that aims to poison datasets taken without consent.

Go to https://glaze.cs.uchicago.edu/ where the official program can be found under "Download Glaze".

Download the appropriate version

wherever your downloads are stored, go there and extract the .zip by right-clicking > extract all, or the button in the file explorer.

Important!! Inside the unzipped folder, check if any folders failed to unzip. This is a common error and glaze will give you an error if any folders remain unzipped!

Find Glaze.exe in your folder and double click to run it. (You can also pin it to start or your desktop for easy access. It doesn't appear in a list of recently installed programs because it's not an install.)

Their cute little UI will notify you that it's downloading resources for a few minutes.

Ready to go!

Select your image(s), settings and an output folder before you run it. (You can even select the same image multiple times if you want it to run a few times with different glazes.) Then Run Glaze.

(It will even kindly run on your graphics card if you have one.)

If any errors occur after clicking Glaze, the darker square will give you some python-related text saying what to do. This was extensively for the devs, do not be alarmed. Go back and check for unzipped folders inside the Glaze folder, that's usually the cause of every mistake.

Let it run for the estimated time. (don't close it before it's done, I've done that by accident lol). The image will just show up in your output folder when it's done.

It will look a bit like compression artifacts, but rather that than a huge watermark on my work.

addendum:

it takes a while to clear up its own cache. Just wait a bit before glazing again because it will take too much memory if you try again immediately.

What is Build-a-Bucky Bingo?

Very much like Build a Bear, you get to customize what your Bingo card will look like! You will get a list of prompts to choose from for each month. Each list will include a few of the following: AUs, NSFW/kinks, SFW prompts, quotes, places and general prompts open for interpretation.

RULES

This is an 18+ only event. All participants acknowledge that they are over the age of 18 by signing up.

Be kind. Any kind of hate (kink bashing/shaming, harassment, hate speech, toxic behavior, etc.) will not be tolerated at any point. There will be no warnings given and if proven to have exhibited any disagreeable behaviors, you will be removed from the event.

Tag your works accordingly. We expect explicit works, and that will contain squicks, triggers, etc.  We believe in Kinktomato here. YKINMKATOK (Your Kink Is Not My Kink (And That’s OK) but you are responsible for advising our readers what to expect.

Can I have more than one card?  BBE wants to promote as many low stress events as possible. It is recommended that you only have 1 card, as that is still 12 fills to complete. What if I sign up, but I miss a month? If you missed a month (ie - did not take a prompt or did not complete the fill), not to worry. You can still complete this fill, even if the month has passed. So long as you have finished all twelve prompts before the end of the event, it still counts!  

What kind of works can I submit? All works should be new content (ie - has not been previously posted).  New chapters to existing works are allowed. They must be tagged appropriately. Bucky Barnes in any form (Winter Soldier, Bucky Cap, etc.) must be the focus of your work.  ✵ FANFICTION: The minimum word count is 200 words, unless you are writing a drabble, which has to be 100 words exactly. ✵ FANART: Minimum a linked sketch ✵ MOODBOARDS: At least 3 images. ✵ PLAYLISTS: At least 10 songs and some sort of graphic.  ✵ REC LISTS: At least 5 works and some sort of graphic.  ✵ GIFSETS: At least 3 images.  ✵ CRAFT: Something you can photograph You can create as many works as you want for any of the prompts, but the minimum is only 1 fill each prompt you choose (event minimum: 12 fills).

Prizes

For your first bingo, you will receive bragging rights and a Top Gun Comment Bingo graphic. A bingo is a single row, column, or diagonal of the card.

Q: What if I don't like one or more prompts on my card? A: You can swap your card once if there's a prompt you want to avoid. To swap your card, contact us with the unwanted prompt via the same communication channel we used to send the card within 3 days of receiving your card. A mod will then send you an updated card.

Q: I don't want NFSW prompts! A: You can request a SFW-only card.

Q: Editing a photo to mark prompts complete is hard... is there an alternative? A: Yes! You can ask to receive a list of all prompts on your card in plain text. We will accept a plain-text list of fills, as long as each fill is clearly associated with the prompt. When submitting a plain-text fill list, please also show your card so the mods know your card layout and can confirm bingo completion.

Q: Does this event include RPF? A: Yes, comments on RPF works centered around TG actors can be used as fills for your card.

Q: What about self-inserts and /Reader fic? A: Yes, these works also count toward fills, as they are still set in the Top Gun universe and include Top Gun characters.

Q: I literally cannot complete a bingo/blackout with only fanworks I have not commented on before. Can I mark fills by commenting on works I've commented on previously? A: You are a commenting beast (positive)! Sure, start double-commenting.

Your photos are always so bright and HD! What graphics card do you use and what are your in game settings if you don’t mind me asking?? Could you also give some tips for somebody starting out to take photos in the sims 4 🪐😚

I have a low end laptop lol. But i use few tools and tips that help me take some good quality photos. I’ll share them in details so this is going to be a long read !! Sorry ahead and bear with me please 🥰

Let’s start with few things to enhance your in game quality first :

If you don't use HQ mod i recommend you check it out HERE !

Here are pictures without and with HQ mod ( click for better quality )

Do you notice the HUGE improvement in details like eyebrows, skin, eyes and clothes, pretty much everything lol!!

I use HQ Mod Switch to turn HQ mod on and off as i wish. Be aware that HQ mod slows your game !! you can simply turn it on just when you need to take screenshots.

I use This Gentle Cas Lighting ( IT’S A MUST!!)

Now, there are two ways to take good quality pictures that i know of and use :

OPTION 1 :

If you want something quick but does the job then this is your go to :

- SRWE :

Download the zip file and unzip it.

Run The Sims 4 game.

when you are ready to take screenshots whether in cas or in game ( i take mine in cas ) go to settings and change display type to windowed. Here are my in game settings.

Open the SRWE file you downloaded earlier and run the app. ( Make sure you unzipped it 1st )

Click on Select running Application and choose TS4 game then Click open.

in the Window position and size you adjust the width and height to your liking. Be experimental with it till you are satisfied. These are my settings :

When you go to the game you will notice the change in resolution. Here it’s tricky a little because if you make the resolution too big, you might not be able to see everything on the screen, here is an example

You can move around by clicking on the options in Align Window.

It helps you navigate around the screen. I always go for Left + Top which displays this as a result :

When it's set this way i get to see Traits properly to pose my sims before i take a screenshot .

Please bear in mind that my screen resolution is 1366x768. If your screen resolution is higher you dont have to use same settings as mine !!

FINALLY, you hit C on your keyboard to take screenshots. And you are done.

Tip : If you liked your SRWE settings and want to save them, click on Save Profile then name it so you can load it the next time you use SRWE, without having to type everything all over again. As you can save many profiles with different settings !! feel free

Ps : As you noticed from the previous last two pictures, using SRWE will display part of the screen and not all of it because the resolution is bigger now!! in this case i recommend you go to the screenshots folder of your game and check how the screenshots turned out while you are still running the game so you can decide if you like them enough or not before closing the game!

OPTION 2 :

If you have the patience and time, you should try rendering in Blender.

There are so many tutorials on youtube that can help you learn how to render. I’ll link you the one i liked best HERE !

TIPS :

This is my resolution settings for pictures in blender ( you click on Output Properties to set it )

I dont use any lightning in blender, i use World Properties instead by clicking on color then setting the value to 1.000. If you want some cool effects you can have fun trying some lightning options ( watch the video to see how to do it ! )

You can add a background in blender and change its color to your liking. I use transparent background beacuse it's easier to edit the image that way. To get an image with transparent background in Blender go to Render Properties>Film>Transparent

I use Eevee to render my images. It is recommended to use Cycles for better/higher quality but it takes longer time and it can crash if your PC doesn’t support it ! So be aware please!!

HOW I EDIT MY PHOTOS TO LOOK BRIGHT!

I use Photoshop to edit my photos. I don't do much to be honest. i resize images when it's needed and adjust brightness/contrast, tone and color ( 70% of the time i just go for Auto Tone ) which you will find in Image.

Tips : you have some cool options in PS that can give you that bright effect, such as :

Inner Glow : You can find it in Layer>Layer Style. And here are the settings i use ( they are still adjustable depending on the clothes, hair and skin color of my sims ) :

Outer Glow : you can find it in Layer Style as well. I dont have specific settings for this one. It totally depends on the picture and type of edit i’m going for. I dont always use it unless i want some really bright effect around my sims like In my Fairy post HERE.

You can get creative with other options in Blending Options, which you can find in Layer Style.

For the Glow effect to work properly you have to have a transparent background, or delete the background yourself ! it should look like this !

after adding the Inner Glow + Outer Glow effect it will give you this !

When i add a background (in a new layer) i dont make it 100% white! i go for this color to make the Glow effect pop a little !! and these are the color settings :
