Tell me about your writing history! Is this your first fandom? Had you ever written anything else before? Maybe embarrassing poetry or a diary?

Wow this ask had me pulling out my old hard drive to look at the oldest writings I could find I actually went into my old boxes and found the one remaining notebook from pre-college, as well. So this turned into a VERY fun adventure xD Thank you for sending this, Anna!

So my journey into writing is really intertwined with my love for HP. I'd definitely say it was my first fandom, and it's absolutely been my most long-lasting one. I was very into Supernatural in middle school as well (it had just come out), but nothing captured me like HP, and eventually, the Marauders. I remember writing a story when I was like 9 for this monthly contest we had in school, and I specifically said to myself, "I'm going to write this in the style that JKR uses," and because of that, I was SURE I was going to win the contest. I even remember using "he said, matter-of-factly" in the story, because I'd looked up what that meant when reading HP (about Hermione, of course) and thought it was just next-level writing. I did actually win the contest that month, too! xD So I would say I really started getting into writing and enjoying it because the Harry Potter books made me fall so in love with reading.

So jump ahead to early middle school, around 11 years old, I'm on fucking Neopets, and I discover a roleplaying forum. And a thread seeking someone to play James at the Yule Ball......and thus, my Highest Self was born. 😆 It felt like I'd discovered a whole new world where I could really be myself and do the things I loved with other people who loved it, too. So I started roleplaying (on myspace lmao), mostly as Sirius or James and eventually also Dean Winchester. I discovered ff.net and hpff, and wrote some stories, but mostly I really loved interacting with other writers through rping.

Most of what I wrote outside of rp was either poetry or short stories, and most of it was really dark, cause my life in general was really dark. In college I took a poetry writing course and a fiction writing course and fucking loved them both, but I didn't end up going any further in those courses. I roleplayed off and on throughout my 20s, wrote poetry off and on, little fics and drabbles here and there. Came up with ideas for books I never wrote. So really, what I'm doing right now with Dead to Me is the most "serious" I've been about a multi-chapter story before, unless you count the ongoing stories I technically wrote as a roleplayer. Like, I know I'm actually going to finish this one, whereas so often in the past I just let things fall away (thank you, adhd).

As for old writing/embarrassing stuff - the oldest fandom thing I found was actually a short wolfstar fic I wrote in 2011 that made me smile so much! I might post it. 😊 Which is so funny because I don't even remember writing it. I did easily find some embarrassing poetry, though. I picked one out from my hard drive from 2011 before I found my old notebook from high school, so congrats, you get two embarrassing poems for the price of one. Under the cut, cause geez, I've already talked a lot xD

From my first year in college...feast your eyes on a gross poem about my first real boyfriend, who was (shocker) an absolute asshole:

It’s your back, the way your skin crawls across it like caterpillars stretching tight while you blanket over me.

It’s your hair, those thick tendrils of brown leaves falling over me like autumn when it starts and it feels like the sky is falling.

It’s your laugh, that low baritone. That tuba in the brass section that gets all the attention and earns glares from the girls in football stands that can’t hear over them, but I become a puddle to that sound.

You are a warm blanket in an ice locker – relief.

Watching you live is like videotaping a child’s first years. Their first giggles that grace the world, first few steps and words and birthdays, bed time stories and grandparents’ laps. All in all, true happiness.

You are all the reasons in the world to smile, and so I am.

Real talk, I actually MUCH prefer the second poem. Maybe it's because I still remember lines from it to this day, or because the idea of writing a lovey poem to an asshole is more cringey than writing a heartbreak poem in general, but.... I don't hate those last two lines 😆

⋆ RP PET PEEVES?: probably just...not being given anything to work with in threads or in plotting circumstances. i try to come to people with ideas when i reach out for plots myself, and always put a lot of effort into ensuring my replies haves something for my partners to respond to and build upon, so it's frustrating when someone hits me up to plot with no idea what they're interested in exploring or gives me a reply that's just their character reacting to mine with nothing new to build from.

⋆ EXPERIENCE / HOW MANY YEARS?: oh boy i've been roleplaying since i was a kid lmao. i originally rped primarily on forums. first, it was a hp forum (rip) and then years later i joined a dragon age forum, then a multifandom crossover forum that was a lot of fun. from there i decided to try out tumblr and it really stuck. tl;dr: i've been roleplaying on and off since i was about eleven years old, so that's like...22 years of experience???

⋆ FLUFF, ANGST, OR SMUT?: it truly depends on my mood tbh! i can write all three under the right circumstances, and i enjoy them all in their own way. i guess i lean more towards fluff and angst over smut, but i have been known to discuss the sex lives of our muses with my partners (as long as everyone is comfortable with it), and then occasionally write it out with them in thread or meme form.

⋆ PLOTS OR MEMES?: both! it helps me to keep a thread going if i have a general idea of where we both want it to end up. but i also love getting memes and replying to them and continuing them into threads spontaneously. it works a bit better for me than starter calls, which i am notorious for never finishing (sorry!).

⋆ LONG OR SHORT REPLIES?: again, both! shorter replies are easier for my brain these days, but i love a longer thread as well. it just takes me a while to get around to replying to longer things, as i want to give my partner plenty to work with (even if i can't always match their exact length).

⋆ TIME TO WRITE?: literally whenever the muse strikes, which is unfortunately highly sporadic and constantly bouncing from muse to muse.

⋆ ARE YOU LIKE YOUR MUSE(S)?: all of my muses have a little bit of me in them, i think. that's one of the joys of writing. finding parts of yourself in others and exploring or processing your own experiences through fiction can be liberating and cathartic (though i think it's also important to see and work with characters who are different from you). so yeah. there might be more of me in my ocs than my canons, but i like to think there is a little shard of me in all of them. <3

character in general: i must admit that due to previous bad experiences with lily's, they became a character that i didn't particulaly like. although, i do like and respect their role in the universe, harry's life, etc. i CANNOT say the same about katherine. i absolutely love, respect and simp for her. shamelessly. how they play them: i love your portrayal of both muses. lily is both strict and playful when she needs to be, a perfect balance - and i like how close to canon you portray her in our current threads, especially with severus. do not worry, i will give you the jily feels with that cute meme you sent in soon enough! katherine... what can i say about katherine. you bring out the human side of katherine that is buried deep, deep down most of the times, and that is remarkable. i am eager to see her more... savage, villainous side in the threads we have coming up / planned. the mun: the mun needs to stop texting me when they're at work DEMANDING things, when they cannot reply back because then my muses go extremely sassy and i cannot control them. honestly though, they're amazing and i am very glad that i get to ship with them, scream with them, talk to them on a daily basis.

overall opinion: i gotta admit that initially the concept of multiple sideblogs that stem from a main blog was confusing to me (maybe because i have just returned to tumblr recently and i love everything simple). the hardest part was seeing the blogs pop up, reading through and seeing the same alias and being like 'hold on... is it them again?' besides, now that i understand the concept, i absolutely love the organisation - every single blog is clean, easy to navigate, information is easy to find and the muses are all neat, tidy in their own corner. teach me your ways? your portrayals, as far as i have seen / written with are amazing, nothing to be insecure about and totally muses to throw my way a lot more » waves my tvd and hp muses at you.

so here on tumblr specifically, i got my start in HP (I was fourteen, forgive me) with James, Lily and one of the Death Eaters (while at school) in a group. I then continued w James and Lily in indie rp, before jumping ship on them entirely and maining Rita Skeeter. I also RP'd Gaila from the 2009 Star Trek movie & Kim Possible (who made it to the previous iteration of miidnighters but didn't stick. For other OC's here on the tumbs I had an acrobat named Wings, a disabled Irish guy named Dom (they were the two big ones - I think Wings was my very first OC rp here) and a few others I tried but didn't go the distance.

honestly theres not really any of them I'd write again. none of the canon's hold my interest anymore (or have the audience - Rita my beloved but Not Anymore - she kind of turned into Hartley anyway) and any OC's probably got dropped for a reason. I'd maybe bring Dom back since he was my other long-term OC (since 2015ish) but he'd need some tweaking, and rn I just don't feel the desire.
