First point of order:

The first book should start on November 1st, 1981, correct?

November 1st, 1981 was a Sunday, but the book specifically calls it a Tuesday, and it needs to be a weekday because Vernon goes to work.

The Tuesday Nov 1st nearest are 1977 and 1983

Funnily enough, it falls on a Tuesday this year (2022)

This is just so interesting to me since the majority of HP has such a precise timeline, but this is the first chapter of the first book.

I have no doubt I'm not saying anything plenty of other people haven't said before me, but this is for me to jot my notes, so here we are.

just in case anyone checks this: i can’t remember if i clarified this anywhere but i am currently participating in a stranger things big bang as a writer. the end of that is in november so i wont be updating harry prince and the philosophers stone for a while longer! im also back at uni now so my free time is depleted but ill do my best to get back to this series as soon as there’s room on my plate again :)

Growing up is realising that Dumbledore isnt the fu*king saint the book showed him to be. Its realising that he could have spoken for Sirius Black, gotten Harry out of his abusive household, stopped Voldemort basically every year he tried to attack Harry/Hogwarts. Its accepting that every year he was preparing Harry to getting himself killed, to try and take down a man he could have easily getting rid of. Its knowing that he was willing to sacrifice anything for "the greater good", that he contributed to the creation of not only one but two dark lords. And that should say a lot about him alone.

You know what hurts me? That there is a SparkNotes for Harry Potter.

Back in my day, Harry Potter was the book you read INSTEAD of your homework. That you stayed up all night to finish reading. We WISHED we could read it for credit.

That's like... getting assigned a Marvel movie for homework so you read the wiki article instead. WTF?

Right off the bat, just jumping in with the twisted expectations.

I love that you start off following Vernon for the majority of the first chapter, and exploring the Dursleys’ lives as if they are going to be the main characters of this book, before Rowling pulls a complete switcheroo. Like, “Whoops, actually, they’re the bad guys! Gotcha!”
